DT: CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE FISH TAILED. THIS, IN TURN, CAUSED A MINOR ACCIDENT. REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM RECURRED. IT USUALLY HAPPENED WHEN THE ROAD WAS WET OR SNOW COVERED. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE VEHICLE CHECKED. THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE WHAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK
MY WIFE JESSICA AND SON ANDREW WERE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 80 EAST BOUND THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS 2004 WHEN WE HIT A PATCH OF ICE AND WERE THROWN OFF THE ROAD, DOWN A BANK AND STRUCK A TREE HEAD ON AT A SPEED OF 40-50 MPH. OUR AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND OUR SEAT BELTS DID NOT LOCK UP. I WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND WAS THROWN FORWARD TOWARDS THE WINDOW AND MY WIFE FLEW UP AND HIT THE GRAB BAR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. I CONTACTED JEEP AND WAS TOLD THAT AN AIR BAG SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED. MY MECHANIC HAD TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS ENOUGH FORCE TO DEPLOY THE AIR BAGS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE ANY LONGER. *NM
COMPLAINT RECEIVED VIA E-MAIL. MY WIFE, SON, AND I WERE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. WE HIT AN ICE PATCH ON I-80 EAST MILE MARKER 128. WE WENT DOWN A BANK AND HIT A TREE HEAD ON AT APROXIMATLY 50 MPH, AND SEAT BELTS/AIR BAGS DID NOT WORK. I CONTACTED JEEP, AND WAS TOLD THAT AN INVESTIGATOR WOULD GO AND LOOK AT THE JEEP, AND THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME. I THEN CONTACTED THE GARAGE WHERE MY VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED, AND ASKED THE OWNER IF THE INSPECTOR HAD BEEN THERE. I WAS INFORMED THAT HE WAS, AND THAT HE DID NOT EVEN KNOW WHERE THE AIR BAG SENSORS WERE LOCATED. A FEW DAYS LATER, I RECIEVED A LETTER INFORMING ME THAT THE AIR BAG DID FAIL, AND THAT IT SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE OFF, MY VEHICLE HAD $9000 DAMAGE AT THE FRONT END. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE FOR MYSELF AND FAMILY. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON WWW.NHTSA.DOT.GOV AND FOUND THAT 9 OTHER 2003, JEEP LIBERTYS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *AK
I WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR-END COLLISION WITH A LEXUS SUV. I RAN INTO THE BACK OF A LEXUS SUV THAT WAS UNEXPECTLY STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND FRONT SECTION OF THE JEEP COLLAPSED FORWARD AT A 45% ANGLE, PUSHING THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE TO THE FORMER LOCATION OF THE MIDDLE OF THE ENGINE. THIS WAS ON A 2003, JEEP LIBERTY WITH 13,000 MILES AND NEITHER AIRBAG IN THE JEEP LIBERTY DEPLOYED DURING THE SEVERE IMPACT OF THE CRASH. THERE IS CURRENTLY $8,000+ OF DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE JEEP LIBERTY AND THE PRESTICE DODGE, IN DALLAS, TEXAS, HAS INFORMED ME THAT THIS IS NOT A MATTER FOR THEM TO DEAL WITH, BECAUSE FAILED AIRBAGS ARE CONSIDERED A FACTORY DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WAS JUST SURVEYED FOR REPAIRS TODAY BY ALLSTATE INSURANCE AND THEY ARE GOING TO REPAIR IT, BUT AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP "PRESTIGE DODGE" AND ASKING THEM TO GO LOOK AT THE CAR TO VERIFY THE AIRBAGS HAD NOT GONE OFF. THE DEALERSHIP PROVIDED ME WITH A NUMBER FOR CHRYSLER 18009921997 TO ADDRESS THESE FAILED AIRBAGS WITH. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER STATED THAT IF THE COLLISION CENTER HAD ALREADY BEGUN WORK ON THE CAR THAT CHRYSLER WOULD REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT GO OFF AND THEY WOULD REFUSE TO SEND AN INVESTIGATOR BECAUSE THE COLLISION CENTER HAS ALREADY BEGUN FOLLOWING ALLSTATES INSTRUCTIONS TO REPAIR THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. AT THIS POINT CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE HUNG UP ON ME.*AK
I WAS DRIVING ON I65NORTH AT A RATE OF SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 45- 50 MPH WHEN I HIT A PATCH OF ICE AND LOST CONTROL OF MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. I SPUN OUT AND HIT A CONCRETE BRIDGE ABUTMENT HEAD ON WITH SUCH IMPACT THAT MY JEEP WAS TOTALED AT OVER $20,000 IN DAMAGE. MY AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND I HIT MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL RESULTING IN A SEVERE HEAD CONTUSION REQUIRING APPROXIMATELY 30 SUTURES FROM A SKILLED PLASTIC SURGEON. THE PLASTIC SURGEON COMMENTED DURING THE PROCEDURE THAT HAD MY AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, I WOULD NOT HAVE SUSTAINED SUCH AN INJURY.*AK
WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE THE UPPER BALL JOINTS FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE FRONT END COLLAPSED. THE CAUSE HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED. NO INJURIES REPORTED. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO NEAREST DEALER FOR EVALUATION. *AK
AT APPROXIMATELY 25,000 MILES MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY RENEGADE'S TRANSMISSION WENT. I TOOK IT TOO A DEALER AND THEY REBUILT IT INSTEAD OF REPLACING IT, I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS AND TOOK IT BACK CONTINUOUS TIMES FOR THEM TOO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THEY SAID TOO JUST KEEP DOING FIGURE 8'S WITH IT TOO GET THE FLUIDS TO RUN THROUGH PROPERLY!! SO THIS OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T WORK, DAH!! AND THEY KEPT PUTTING ME OFF UNTIL THEY FINALLY SAID, OH IT'S BEEN TOO LONG NOW AND WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT! THIS COMPANY IS NOW OUT OF BUSINESS AND THE TRANNY HAS NOT GOTTEN BETTER IN FACT GOTTEN WORSE!! IT WAS A DEFAULT TRANSMISSION OBVIOUSLY AND I'M STILL HAVING SERIOUS ISSUES WITH IT. DT: A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER LAST YEAR AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. WRONG. CURRENTLY, TOOK VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DETERMINED IT WAS THE TIE ROD END ON THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE. VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. *AK
WHILE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AT 60 MPH TO SLOW VEHICLE DOWN VEHICLE CONTINUED AT SAME SPEED. PULLED VEHICLE OVER WHEN MORE PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO BRAKES. AN ODOR WAS COMING FROM THE BRAKES.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ON I684 THE ACCELERATOR GOT STUCK AT 60 MPH, I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR. I GOT OFF THE EXIT TRY TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR, WENT THROUGHT THE STOP SIGN, PULLED OVER AND HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF WHILE IN DRIVE TO STOP IT.*AK I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND WAS TOLD NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR. I HAVE 1 MORE YEAR LEFT ON THE LEASE AND CHRYSLER WILL NOT TAKE ME OUT OF THE LEASE.
THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN THREE SEPARATE FRONTAL COLLISIONS. THE DUAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DID NOT SHIFT PROPERLY FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. THE DEALERSHIP INSPECTED THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A SLIPPAGE IN THE FIRST FEW HUNDRED MILES. THERE WERE MISSING AND LOOSE BOLTS AROUND THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE DISPLAYED A HARD KNOCK AT TIMES AND WAS POOR ON GAS MILEAGE. *SC *NM *JB
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SLIDE AND SLID INTO A UTILITY POLE. *NM CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 03V460000 EVEN THOUGH THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE WENT IN FOR SERVICE SHE BELIEVED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT IS THE THE RECALL ISSUE. SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT. *TC
WHEN PUTTING THE VEHICLE INTO GEAR IT JAMMED. CONSUMER KEPT DEPRESSING THE BRAKES TO GET VEHICLE INTO GEAR. THE FLOATER AND THE SHIFT SCREW WERE LOOSE, PER DEALER MECHANIC. CONSUMER MAINTAINED THAT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE VEHICLE. *AK
WIFE WAS TAVELLING IN 2003 JEEP LIBERTY, WAS INVOLVED IN FRONT END COLLISION AT APPROX 40 MPH, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.*AK
VEHICLE CONTINUOUSLY SURGED FORWARD. CONSUMER HAD TO APPLY BOTH FEET TO THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE DEALERSHIP FOUND THE PROBLEM IN THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER. *TC
CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 03V460000 CONCERNING LOWER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINTS. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR AN APPOINTMENT. SERVICE MANAGER REFUSED TO HONOR THE RECALL BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT PURCHASED FROM THAT DEALERSHIP. *AK
WHEN BRAKING FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT PUNCTURED THE FRONT DRIVER'S TIRE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
FUEL LINE RELEASED GASOLINE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, IN THE AREA OF THE FUEL RAIL, RESULTING IN THE TOTAL CONSUMPTION OF THE VEHICLE.
CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE 03-V-460-000 CONCERNING REPLACEMENT UPPER CONTROL ARM LOWER BALL JOINTS. CONSUMER NOTICED AFTER RECALL REPAIRS WERE DONE THAT VEHICLE PULLED TO THE LEFT ON ITS OWN. CONSUMER NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER . DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE DONE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE RECALL. *AK *TS
DT: CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE LOWER BALL JOINT AND HAD THE REPAIR WORK DONE. SEVEN MONTHS LATER THE BALL JOINT FAILED AGAIN WHILE THE VEHICLE OWNER'S SON WAS DRIVING AT 35 MILE MPH. THE BALL JOINT FAILED WHILE DRIVING OVER A BRIDGE ,AND T VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE OWNERS HOME, AND THEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. THE WHEEL AND BRAKES, BOTH FELL OFF THE VEHICLE. THE POLICE WERE CALLED. HOWEVER NO REPORT WAS FILED BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CRASH. REPAIRS WERE DONE. . THE OWNER NOTICED THAT BEFORE THE BALL JOINT FAILED. THERE WAS TOO MUCH PLAY IN THE STEERING. WHEN THE WHEEL IS TURNED IT TAKES THE TIRE A MINUTE TO CATCH UP. THE OWNER IS CONCERNED THAT THE BALL JOINT IS ABOUT TO GO OUT AGAIN. THE REPLACEMENT PARTS DO NOT SEEM TO BE ANY DIFFERENT THAN THE ORIGINAL PARTS. THE CALLER HEARD A REPORT OF A LADY DYING WITH THE SAME PROBLEM IN HER VEHICLE.*AK
CONSUMER PARKED THE VEHICLE IN A PARKING LOT WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON. WHEN CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE HE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD POPPED OUT OF PARK AND ROLLED INTO A DITCH. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH A FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE. CONSUMER PULLED OVER, AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
I OWN A JEEP LIBERTY 2003(MANUFACTURED IN APIRL 2003). I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FROM JANUARY OF 2004. COUPLE OF WEEKS BEFORE(JULY 17TH 2004)I WAS GETTING IN TO THE FREEWAY ENTRY RAMP, THE CAR SUDDENLY VEERED RIGHT AND I TRIED TO ADJUST IT BUT THE CAR VEERED VIOLENTLY TO THE LEFT AND SPUN A 360 AND A PARTIAL 180 BEFORE I ENDED UP ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FREEWAY CROSSING 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY, I DID NOT GET INJURED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DAMAGED NOR DID ANYBODY ELSE. I WENT ON THE INTERNET LATER TO FIND OUT THAT THERE WAS A MAJOR RECALL FOR THE SAME INCIDENT FOR JEEP LIBERTIES THAT WERE MANUFACTURED TILL MARCH OF 2003 AND MINE IS MANUFACTURED IN APIRL. THE SCARY THING ABOUT THIS IS I CANNONT PREDICT WHEN THIS CAN HAPPEN AGAIN AND IT HAS ALREADY HAPPED TWICE AFTER THE ABOVE LISTED INCIDENT ON NORMAL ROADS. *AK
PROBLEM IS WITH REAR POWER WINDOWS WHEN THE ASSEMBLY BREAKS THE CABLE JAMS THE DOOR LOCK AND YOU CAN NOT OPEN THE REAR DOOR. *TT
RECALL REGARDING THE LOWER BALL JOINTS ON 2003 JEEP LIBERTY. *MR THE TECHNICIAN TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT BECAUSE OF THE RECALL THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED A FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THIS WOULD BE AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE FOR THE CONSUMER. RECALL# 03V460000. *SC *JB
I HAVE REPLACED NINE WINDOW REGULATORS, AFFECTING ALL FOUR WINDOWS. THE WINDOWS SIMPLY DROP INTO THE DOOR FRAME, LEAVING PASSENGERS VULNERABLE AND THE JEEP UNSECURED.
I TOOK MY 2003 JEEP LIBERTY THAT I PURCHASED NOVEMBER 22.2003 IN FOR A SERVICE CHECKUP AND WITH 29000 MILES ON THE CAR I WAS TOLD THAT HALF OF THE REAR ROTORS WERE RUSTED AWAY, AND ONLY HALF THE BRAKE PAD WAS HITTING THE BRAKES. I HAVE HAD MANY VEHICLES IN MY 52 YEARS OF LIFE AND I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS OCCUR. OF COURSE CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ADMIT THAT THEY ARE USING AN INFERIOR METAL PRODUCT AND WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THE WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE DANGEROUS ROTORS. I HAVE A FILE NUMBER AT CHRYSLER WHICH IS 12412856. I HAD THE ROTORS CHANGED AT MY EXPENSE BUT I BELIEVE THEY ARE CUTTING CORNERS IN A VERY VITAL PART OF THE CAR. I WOULD APPRECIATE A RESPONSE. AT LESS THAN 19,000 MILES (@ 50% HIGHWAY) THE BRAKE ROTORS ON THREE WHEELS ARE CORRODED AND PITTED. HIS HAS CAUSED THE BRAKE PADS TO WEAR VERY THIN. THE ROTOR AND PAD ON THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL ARE OK AND WEARING NORMALLY. *AK
TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON UPON TOWING A COLEMAN "YUMA" POP-UP CAMPER. TOOK IN TO DEALER AND DEALER FOUND THAT TORQUE CONVERTER TO BE BAD ALONG WITH GEAR WEAR. TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND GEAR WEAR REPAIRED. CAR HAS ONLY 8,000 MILES ON IT AND IT IS THE FIRST TIME THE CAR HAS TOWED ANYTHING. THE CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD A PROBLEM SINCE IT IS RATED WITH A MUCH HIGHER TOWING CAPACITY THAN THE COLEMAN "YUMA" IS. THE DEALERSHIP IS TRYING TO TELL ME THAT THIS IS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT OF A BAD TRANSMISSION, BUT UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION WITH JEEP FORUMS ON THE NET, 85% OF LIBERTY OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR TRANSMISSION AFTER 8,000 MILES! ONE OWNER HAS HAD HIS TRANSMISSION REPLACED 3 TIMES! THE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS WAS COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY THIS TIME, BUT THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED NEXT TIME. IF THE TRANSMISSION IS FAULTY ON ALL OF THEM, I DON'T WANT TO GET STUCK WITH A LEMON ON A BRAND NEW VEHICLE!*AK
THE STEERING LOCKED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STRIKE A BARRIER AND ROLL OVER. RECALL 03V460000 WAS ISSUED ON THE STEERING, HOWEVER, MANUFACTURER DID NOT FIND FAULT FOR THE CRASH.*AK
EXCESSIVE DRIVELINE VIBRATION AND NOISE UNDER LOAD/ACCECERATION. DIFFERENTIAL. BEEN TO DEALER TWICE WITH NO REPAIRS. NOISE GETTING PROGRESSEVLY WORSE. JEEP SHAKES VIOLENTLY ABOVE 80 MPH.*AK
REAR WINDOW ACTUATORS WILL BREAK WITHOUT WARNING AND DROP THE REAR WINDOWS COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING. SINCE THIS MODEL OF LIBERTY HAS THE "SEVERE BUFFETING" PROBLEM WHEN THIS HAPPENS, IT CAN CAUSE INCREDIBLE SURPRISE AND DISORIENTED TO THE POINT A POSSIBLE ACCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES AND THE DEALER REFUSES TO FIX THEM ANYMORE. BOTH WINDOWS ARE SEMI-PERMANENTLY MANUALLY FIXED IN PLACE BY ME. *TR
WHILE SLOWING DOWN FROM ANY SPEED VEHICLE SURGED TO A HIGH RPM. ONCE THE GEAR IS PUT IN NEUTRAL AND PLACED BACK IN DRIVE VEHICLE GOES BACK TO NORMAL. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED TEN TO TWELVE TIMES SINCE MAY, 2004. DEALER HAS PLACED VEHICLE ON A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE BUT COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK *NM
WHILE BRAKING, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED HEAVILY. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *JB
I HAVE A JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED 2003 LEASED ON OCTOBER 2002. IVE HAD TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE SEVEN TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE DEALER HAS NOT REPAIRED IT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS ANYWHERE FROM 30 - 65 AND WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A COMPLETE STOP THE VEHICLE WILL START TO BUCK AND HESITATE, THE SPEEDOMETER WILL SWING BACK AND FORTH AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOSES SPEED AND THEN REGAINS IT. I'VE ALMOST BEEN HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE PALISADES PARKWAY ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE FAILURE STARTED ON APRIL 28,2004 AT 32,000 MILES IT NOW HAS 34,600 MILES AND IT HAS REOCCURRED AFTER ALL SEVEN TIMES OF GOING IN FOR REPAIR OF SAME CONDITION AFTER THE DEALERSHIP AT CENTRAL AVE CHRYSLER JEEP IN YONKERS,CLAIMS TO HAVE REPAIRED IT. THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY BY PROPERLY REPAIRING OR REPLACING VEHICLE. *AK
AT 30.890 MILES REAR BRAKES LOCKING UP, EXTREAM HOT TEMPS. BURNING SMELL AND SMOKE COMING UP THROUGH THE BACK WHEELS. THE CALIPER WAS COVERD BUT I GOT SLAMED WITH A BILL OF $500.00 FOR THE CUTTING OF THE ROTERS AND REPLACING OF PADS. THIS SYSTEM IS 4WHEEL DISC-ANTI/LOCK. I HAVE 39.000 MILES AND THE OTHERS SIDE OF IS DOING THE SAME THING. THE DEALER AT OCEAN JEEP JUST CALLED AND SAID I HAVE TO PAY $100.00 DEDUCTABLE ON THIS REPAIR. THIS WAS MY FIRST BRAND NEW CAR, AND I DONT HAVE ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY.*AK
ON MONDAY, APRIL 5, 2004, I BROUGHT MY LIBERTY RENEGADE FARRISH JEEP IN FAIRFAX, VA FOR MY 18,000 MILE SERVICE WHICH INCLUDED A TIRE ROTATION AND OTHER WORK. NO ONE EVER MENTIONED TO ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS UNDER A SAFETY RECALL AND THAT WORK HAD NOT BEEN COMPLETED.*AK ON SATURDAY, APRIL 10, 2004 I WAS DRIVING MY LIBERTY WHEN I HEARD A LOUD NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE A SHOT GUN GOING OFF AND MY CAR SKIDDED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CAME TO A STOP. MY TIRE WAS FLAT BUT UPON CLOSER INSPECTION, I DISCOVERED METAL SHAVINGS ALL OVER THE TIRE AND DOWN THE STREET ALONG MY SKID PATH. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST JEEP DEALER WHICH WAS HERITAGE CHRYSLER JEEP IN ALEXANDRIA, VA. GREG ANDERSON, FROM HERITAGE JEEP, CALLED ME ON MONDAY, APRIL 12, 2004 AND INFORMED ME THAT MY BALL JOINTS HAD SEPARATED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND THAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE BREAKDOWN. HE SAID MY VEHICLE IS UNDER A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I HAVE GRAVE CONCERNS ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE AND THE MANNER IN WHICH CUSTOMERS ARE NOTIFIED ABOUT POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING DEFECTS IN THEIR VEHICLES. 1. I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL INDICATING THERE WAS A POTENTIAL SERIOUS DEFECT WITH MY VEHICLE THAT MAY CAUSE ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASH. 2. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT ALL VEHICLES COMING INTO THE FARRISH JEEP SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAVE A FUNCTION 14 PERFORMED WHICH WOULD INDICATE ANY OUTSTANDING RECALLS ON A VEHICLE. MY VEHIICLE DID NOT HAVE A FUNCTION 14 PERFORMED ON IT AND NOT BEING NOTIFIED THAT THIS WORK NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED WHEN IT WAS JUST IN FOR SERVICE 5 DAYS PRIOR TO MY BALL JOINTS SEPARATING IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. THIS LIBERTY IS MY FAMILY CAR THAT I TAKE MY 6 YEAR OLD AND 4 YEAR OLD SONS BACK AND FORTH TO SCHOOL IN EVERY DAY ON THE I-495 BELTWAY. I CANT IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ME AND MY FAMILY, AND OTHER DRIVERS AROUND ME, HAD MY BALL JOINTS SEPARATED ON THE BELTWAY AT 60 MILES AN HOUR. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTED FROM ANY GEAR TO NEUTRAL. DEALER ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS REPLACED THE COMPUTER, AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. BUT PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. *AK
FOR MOST OF THE YEAR I HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY JEEP LIBERT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH IT AND THE DEALER STILL HAS NOT RESOLVED THE ISSUE. I AM BEING TOLD THAT THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I DESCRIBE THE FOLLOWING AS THE PROBLEMS. AT A FULL STOP WHILE HOLDING DOWN THE BRAKE THE TRANS MISSION WILL SHUTTER AND MAKE A BANGING NOISE. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING AT LOWER GEARS IS ROUGH. IT IS NOT IN A LIKE NEW CONDITION. HE TRANSMISSION MAKES A GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED 3 TIMES DO TO THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THEVEHICLE HAS LURCHED FORWARD AT A STOP SIGN/LIGHT. IF NOT FOR HOLDING DOWN THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE WOULD HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE TRANSMISSION HAS SHUTTERED AS IT CHANGES GEARS WHILE DRIVING. MAINLY AT SLOW SPEEDS. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THE TRANSMISSION WILL FAIL AND I FEAR IT WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE MADE EVERY ATTEMPT TO RESOLVE THIS WITH THE DEALER. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN RECONDITIONED TWICE. ONCE ON APRIL 5,2004 AND THE OTHER ON MAY 26, 2004. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME BUT THE PROBLEMS REOCCURRED AFTER A SHORT TIME. I HAVE CALLED DAIMLER CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AND TALKED TO SEVERAL REPS. I HAVE FILE NUMBERS 12578676 AND 12805501. I HAVE ALSO SPOKEN WITH SERVICE MANAGER DAVID CARGAIL AND DISTRIC MANAGER BRUCE SHIRLEY. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS THAT I AM SEEING. I HAVE INCLUDED THE COPIES OF THE RECEIPTS FROM THE SERVICE CALLS THAT ARE RELATED TO THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I AM MISSING SOME OF THE EARLIER ONCE FROM THIS YEAR AND WILL SEND THEM IF I LOCATE THEM. I DID TAKE THE VEHICLE IN TODAY AND DAVID CARGAIL TEST DROVE IT AND REFUSED TO GIVE ME A RECEIPT THAT I HAD TAKEN IT IN TO GET IT LOOKED AT. HE SAID THAT I SHOULD HAVE ENOUGH DOCUMENTATION THAT I NEEDED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH REAR WINDSHIELD EXPLODED, SENDING BROKEN GLASS INTO THE VEHICLE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 60 AND 65 MPH CONSUMER LOST CONTROL, AND REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE STEERING COLUMN MALFUNCTIONED. AS A RESULT THE DRIVER LOSS CONTROL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL OVER THREE TIMES LANDING ON IT'S ROOF. THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE CONSUMER STATES TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE COLLISION THE STEERING COLUMN EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS SUCH AS VIBRATION AND LOUD CLUNKING NOISES. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NM
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES VEHICLE FISH TAILED. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *AK
2003 JEEP LIBERTY [XXX] MANUFACTURER RECALLED LOWER BALL JOINTS (RECALL #03V46) REPLACED MARCH 15TH 2004 AT 8900 MILES ON VEHICLE. JUNE 17TH 2006, 52,754 MILES ON VEHICLE SAME PART IS IDENTIFIED BY CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP SERVICE AS NEEDING TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. CURRENTLY AT ISSUE BETWEEN MYSELF, THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER IS WHETHER THIS PART WILL BE REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL. I FIND HAVING TO REPLACE THIS PART EVERY TWO YEARS AN EXCESSIVE INCONVENIENCE AND EXPENSE. $195 LABOR ALONE. UPON REVIEWING CONSUMER COMPLAINTS, A JOINT FAILURE IS LIKELY TO RESULT IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT AND POTENTIAL INJURIES AND DEATHS. THE INITIAL RECALL DID NOT "FIX" THIS ISSUE. *JB UPDATED 07/16/2012 *JS
ON SATURDAY (3/13/2004) WHILE TRAVELING ON I40, THE GOODYEAR TIRE ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF MY CAR BEGAN TO SMOKE AND LESS THAN 10 SECONDS LATER COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATED ALONG THE PERIMETER WHERE THE TREAD MEETS THE SIDE. I HAD MY CAR SERVICED BY A CHRYSLER DEALER ON 3/08/04 BEFORE DRIVING 130 MILES TO A CONFERENCE IN SPRUCE PINES, NC ON 3/10/04. IT WAS ON THE RETURN TRIP FROM SPRUCE PINES WHERE THE TIRE COLLAPSED. ALSO, AFTER THE TIRE WAS CHANGED I STOPPED (LESS THAN 10 MILES LATER) AND CHECKED THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE OTHER THREE TIRES AND THEY ALL SHOWED BETWEEN 35 AND 36 PSI OF PRESSURE. THIS INCIDENCE WAS NOT CAUSED BY UNDER-INFLATIOIN AS SUGGESTED BY A LOCAL GOODYEAR DEALER.
I ALSO HAVE A 2003 JEEP LIBERTY AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY DRIVER SIDE REAR PASSENGER WINDOW REGULATOR 3 TIMES. IT IS MADE OUT OF CHEAP PLASTIC. THE MOTOR STILL WORKS BUT THE PLASTIC PIECE JUST WEARS TO NOTHING IF YOU USE THE WINDOW. THE REPLACEMENT IS A ONE UNIT SYSTEM AND IT NEEDS TO BE MADE STRONGER. *TR
ON TUES. MARCH 9TH, I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT GOING SLOWLY IN A PARKING GARAGE WHEN MY CAR MADE A GRINDING NOISE AND WOULD BARELY DRIVE. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER FROM AAA ARRIVED AND TRIED TO DRIVE MY 2003 LIMITED JEEP LIBERTY THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR COLLAPSED ON THE FRONT LEFT TIRE. EVERYTHING THAT HOLDS THE WHEEL TO THE CAR HAD SEPERATED. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENING. HOWEVER, I THEN CHECKED OUT THIS SITE & SAW THE RECALL FROM NOV. 4 2003 ON MY LIBERTY. THE RECALL I NEVER RECEIVED. WHEN I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT. LATER THAT DAY TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE STATUS OF MY CAR I DROPPED OFF THE NIGHT BEFORE, I MENTIONED THE RECALL. THE WOMAN I SPOKE WITH SAID SHE JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL. WHEN I ASKED WHY I HADN'T RECEIVED THE RECALL SHE SAID "SOMETIMES THEY MAY BE MAILED OUT IN INCREMENTS SO NOT TO INUNDATE THE DEALERS". WELL THE RECALLS WERE SENT OUT DEC. 15TH, 2003, THIS EVENT OCCURED TUES., MARCH 9TH 2004. AFTER 2 DAYS AT THE DEALERSHIP MY CAR WAS FINALLY LOOKED AT. THEY SAID THE LOWER BALL JOINT HAD SEPERATED. *AK PHONE CALL UPDATE: THE CONSUMER'S PHONE NUMBER IS NO LONGER IN SERVICE.
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. ENGINE CHECK LIGHT FLASHED ON THE DASHBOARD. DRIVER TRIED TO RESTART VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. DRIVER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC REPLACED A FUEL INJECTOR. *AK
