2004 JEEP LIBERY LIMITED 4WD, VIN 1J8-GL58KX4W-255517, TIRES: GOODYEAR EAGLE R-SA P235/70R16, MILEAGE: APPROX. 1,000 (APPROX 1 MONTH OLD). *AK REAR END OF CAR SKIDS DANGEROUSLY IN LOW-SPEED TURNS, ON NORMALLY WET (NOT PUDDLED) ROADS, WHEN IN 2WD. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS, ALWAYS IN SLOW-SPEED SUBURBAN DRIVING. (THANK GOD.) SKID HAPPENS WHEN YOU MAKE EITHER A RIGHT OR LEFT HAND TURN, AND THEN APPLY GAS DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN (AS YOU DO TO MAINTAIN SPEED IN A LOW-SPEED TURN) AT WHICH TIME, THE REAR WHEELS LOSE TRACTION AND SKID TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE TURN. I UNDERSTAND THE GOODYEAR EAGLE R-SA TIRES ARE POOR IN THE WET TRACTION DEPT, BUT THIS MUST BE A SPECIALLY-BAD BATCH, BECAUSE THIS SKID OCCURS SO READILY. DEALER SERVICE MANAGER (GEORGETOWN JEEP, GEORGETOWN, CT) ADMITS THAT WET WEATHER TRACTION IS A PROBLEM FOR THE LIBERTY AND HE SAYS "WE ADVISE USING 4 WD WHEN THE ROADS ARE WET." WELL THIS FLOORED ME! NO ONE TOLD US THAT WHEN THE CAR WAS DELIVERED. AND THE OWNERS MANUAL DOES NOT SAY THIS. CHRYSLER/JEEP SAYS THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING MORE. THEY WILL NOT HAVE THE TIRES TESTED, FOR EXAMPLE.
FRONT HEADLIGHTS GOES OUT WITHOUT WARNING. *AK
VEHICLE HAS AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS THAT LOCK WOULD LOCK WHEN THE VEHICLE'S SPEED REACHED 15 MPH, NOW NOT WORKING. *BF THE VEHICLE'S KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTE WAS WORKING PRIOR TO THE CONSUMER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REFERENCING THE VEHICLE'S REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM. AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED NONE OF THE LOCKS WOULD WORK. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE CONSUMER REALIZED THAT THE SWING GATE WAS THE ONLY LOCK THAT WAS WORKING PROPERLY. THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO PERMANENTLY REPAIR THE VEHICLE. *NM
FRONT HEADLIGHT KEEPS GOING OUT INTERMITTENTLY. *AK
HARD SHIFTS, NO POWER IN PULLING INCLINES, HAVE TO PRESS ACCELERATOR TO FLOOR, AND THERE IS A WHINING NOISE FROM REAR END ESPECIALLY LOUD WITH ACCEL/DECEL AND GETS PROGRESSIVELY WORSE, HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIR BUT WITHIN 1 WEEK IT WAS THE SAME..(REAR GEAR BEARINGS).
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH CONSUMER MADE AN ATTEMPT TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. UPON APPLYING THE BRAKES CONSUMER LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AT LOW SPEED. PASSENGER'S FRONT TIRE BEAD BROKE, RESULTING IN VEHICLE FISHTAILING. *AK
TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS HARD WHEN DECELERATING TO A STOP. A LOUD BANG IS HEARD AND A HARSH JOLT IS FELT FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AS IT COMES TO A STOP. NO DAMAGE IS VISIBLE UNDER THE VEHICLE AND VEHICLE DRIVES NORMAL MOST OF THE TIME. THIS IS A VERY INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. DEALER (MACK MASSEY OF EL PASO) COULD NOT REPLICATE, BUT STATED HE (SERVICE MANAGER) KNOWS OF THE ISSUE AND CALLED IT "A CHARACTERISTIC" OF THE JEEP LIBERTY. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE PURCHASE, APRIL 2004. INCIDENT OCCURS AT LEAST 10-15 TIMES PER WEEK. *LA
CONSUMER COMPLAINED THAT THE SECOND ROW PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT CONTINUED TO TIGHTEN DOWN ON CHILD WHILE DRIVING. THEY WERE UNABLE TO RELEASE THE BUCKLE OR THE RETRACTOR BY HAND. THEY HAD TO CUT THE SEAT BELT TO FREE CHILD. THEY INFORMED THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER, BUT BOTH REFUSED TO REPLACE THE SEAT BELT AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER. *AK
VEHICLE UP-SHIFTS PREMATURELY WHILE ASCENDING UPHILL. SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THIS IS NORMAL ON ALL VEHICLE TYPES OF THIS YEAR AND MODEL. CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, HOWEVER THEY HAVE NOT DEVELOPED A FIX TO THE COMPUTERIZED TRANSMISSION CHIP. *AK
I PURCHASED A JEEP LIBERTY WITH SELECT 4WD. AFTER HAVING THE VEHILCE FOR LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AND THE MILAGE WAS LESS THAN 900 MILES, I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A LOT OF NOISE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. I WAS TOLD THAT A BAD BEARING RACE IN THE REAR END HAD MESSED UP THE BEARINGS. THE FAULTY PART WAS INSTALLED BY THE MANUFACTUROR OF THE REAR END.*AK
TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS HARD WHEN DECELERTAING TO A STOP. AHARSH JOLT IS FELT FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AS IT COMES TO A STOP. VEHICLE DRIVES NORMAL MOST OF THE TIME. AND THIS IS A VERY INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. CHRYSLER TECHNICIAN AT ( POTAMKIN CHRYSLER IN MIAMI) COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM MENTIONED.A COPILOT IS BEING INSTALLED TO RECORD THE TRANSMISSON PROBLEM.THIS JEEP WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN JUNE OF 2004 AND HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 2,000 MILES.
EXCESSIVE DRIVELINE VIBRATION AND NOISE UNDER LOAD/ACCECERATION. DIFFERENTIAL. BEEN TO DEALER TWICE WITH NO REPAIRS. NOISE GETTING PROGRESSEVLY WORSE. JEEP SHAKES VIOLENTLY ABOVE 80 MPH-2004 JEEP LIBERTY 4/WHEEL DRIVE. *AK

WHILE RELEASING THE BRAKE IN AN INCLINE, THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACK. THE DRIVER APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO MOVE THE VEHICLE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *LA
1) I PURCHASED A NEW 2004 JEEP LIBERTY THE BRAKES CONTINUALLY SQUEAK. 2) TWICE I HAVE BROUGHT THE JEEP BACK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. 3) THEY DECLINE FIXING THE BRAKES, STATING THAT IT'S CONDENSATION BUILD-UP. 4) I BROUGHT THE JEEP TO ANOTHER BRAKE SPECIALIST WHO SAID IT'S REPAIRABLE BY CHANGING THE BRAKE PADS FROM HARD TO SOFT BRAKE PADS. 5) MY JEEP ONLY HAS 15 THOUSAND MILES ON IT AND IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. *JB
WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STUCK TO THE FLOOR. CONSUMER WAS NOT ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER PLACED BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE INTO A HOUSE. DRIVER SUSTAINED BACK AND NECK INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *AK *NM
2004 JEEP LIBERTY SAFETY RECALL.*MR WHEN THE CONSUMER PRESENTED THE RECALL NOTICE TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE RECALL AND LACKED ANY KNOWLEDGE OR EQUIPMENT TO MAKE THE NECESSARY ADJUSTMENT. THE DEALER RETAINED THE LETTER AND ADVISED THE CONSUMER TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR JUNE 24, 2004. THE CONSUMER ARRIVED ON THE APPOINTMENT DATE. THE RECALL STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD TAKE 30 MINUTES TO COMPLETE. AN HOUR LATER THE CONSUMER ASKED IF THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETED THEY SAID THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COMPLETED AND THAT THEY COULD NOT PREDICT WHEN IT WOULD BE COMPLETED. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER WITH THE REPAIRS HAVING BEEN COMPLETED. THE CONSUMER FEELS THE REPAIRS WERE NOT BEING MADE IN A TIMELY MANNER. *NM
WE PURCHASED A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY EQUIPED WITH GOODYEAR WRANGLER ST TIRES TWO WEEKS AGO. WITH LESS THAN 250 MILES ON THE CAR/TIRES, OUR DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME FROM UNIVERSITY AT APPROX 60MPH (TEMP ABOUT 85 DEGREES, CLEAR & DRY) WHEN THE SIDEWALL ON THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE SPLIT (COMPLETELY) AROUND THE ENTIRE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE TIRE. SHE WAS ABLE TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. ABOUT 3" OF THE OUTSIDE SIDE WALL IS COMPLETELY SEVERED FROM THE REST OF THE TIRE. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF ROAD DAMAGE TO THE TREAD OR SIDEWALL, EXCEPT FOR THE SCUFF MARKS LEFT FROM THE INCIDENT. THE CAR WAS NEW SO WE HAD NOT CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURE, ALTHOUGH THEY DID NOT APPEAR TO BE UNDERINFLATED AND THE CAR WAS NOT OVERLOADED. THERE WERE NO PASSENGERS. THE FAILED TIRE WAS A GOODYEAR WRANGLER ST, P215/75R16, SERIAL NO. T307589 GRF 95M3MS. THE DEALER HAS OFFERED TO REPLACE THE TIRE BUT WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE RELIABILITY OF THE REMAINING TIRES, WHICH WERE MANUFACTURED AT THE SAME TIME BASED ON THE SERIAL NUMBERS. THIS WAS ESSENTIALLY A BRAND NEW TIRE ON A BRAND NEW CAR AND IT SUFFERED A CATESTROPHIC FAILURE UNDER NORMAL LOAD AND DRIVING CONDITIONS. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS. *AK

BOUGHT NEW FROM KONA AUTO CENTER 2004. *TR
PURCHASED VEHICLE 3/30/04 ON OR ABOUT 4/15/04 STATED EXPERIENCING ENGINE BOG DOWN AND LACK OF ACCELERATION AND POWER. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP AND HAD VEHICLE SERVICED ON 5/17. TECHNICIANS COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. TALKED TO CHRYSLER 5/19, WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM. TALKED TO DEALERSHIP BUSINESS MANAGER 5/19, HE ALSO STATED HE WAS NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. RESCHEDULED FOLLOW UP SERVICE APPOINTMENT FOR 5/22. RESEARCHED THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE HAVING SAME PROBLEM. *AK
TL* - ON 01/07/04 WHILE DRIVING ON A WET ROAD AT A SPEED OF 25 MPH THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. DURING ANOTHER INCIDENT THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STOPPED BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN. ONCE THE VEHICLE TURNED, CONTACT ACCELERATED AND SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE DID A 360 SPIN, ENDING IN A SNOW BANK. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE WET. IN LATE FEBRUARY 2004 THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED ANOTHER INCIDENT, WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS GOING UP A HILL IN WET CONDITIONS AND AS THE VEHICLE ROUNDED THE CURVE AT 40 MPH CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING ,CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A SNOW BANK. ON 03/09/04 CONTACT TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP IN BOISE, ID ,AND THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FINE, IT JUST NEEDED SNOW STUDS ON THE TIRES. ON 04/05/04 WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH THE VEHICLE BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE AND STEERED TOWARD THE RIGHT SIDE OF A DITCH, THEN GOING BACK INTO THE HIGHWAY AT THE SAME SPEED, AND THEN GOING BACK INTO THE DITCH AT 65 MPH. AT THIS POINT, THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE DITCH AND HIT THE EMBANKMENT OF A DRIVEWAY AND CATAPULTED OFF THE DRIVEWAY 20 FEET INTO THE AIR, WHERE IT HIT A POWER POLE HEAD ON. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE ROLLING OVER THE A FENCE AND CONTINUED TO ROLL AS IT BURNED. THE CONTACT WAS UNCONSCIOUS, A BYSTANDER PULLED THE CONTACT OUT THE VEHICLE.
I RETURNED HOME LATE ON EVENING AFTER AN EVENING OF SHOPPING, DINNER, & MOVIE. I PARKED MY CAR IN THE GARAGE AND TEN MINUTES LATER HEARD A LOUD "WHOOSH" SOUND. I WENT TO THE GARAGE TO INVESTIGATE AND SAW WHITE SMOKE. AFTER OPENING THE GARAGE DOOR TO DISSIPATE THE SMOKE I LOOKED AROUND THE CAR. I DID NOT SEE ANY PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES OR LEAKING FLUIDS. I DID SEE BLACK SINGE MARKS ALONG THE EDGE OF THE HOOD AND BLACK DUST OVER THE HOOD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT & SHERIFF WERE CALLED. THE FIREMEN DETERMINED THAT A FIRE OCCURRED UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR AND, MIRACULOUSLY, PUT ITSELF OUT. THEY ALSO DETERMINED THAT A LOOSE WIRE WAS ARCING WITH THE ALTERNATOR AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY. THEY RULED THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE AS FAULTY ELECTRICAL WIRING. THE CAR IS 3.5 MONTHS OLD WITH JUST UNDER 3000 MILES ON IT. MY BROTHER-IN-LAW, WHO IS A RETIRED MECHANIC, WENT WITH ME TO THE DEALERSHIP TO PICK UP MY THINGS FROM THE CAR AND GET A LOANER CAR. HE COULD SEE THAT THE LINE GOING FROM THE COMPRESSOR RUPTURED DURING THE FIRE. HE SPECULATED THAT THE "WHOOSH" SOUND I HEARD WAS AC REFRIGERATION ESCAPING WHEN THE LINE RUPTURED AND THAT THE FLUIDS EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. I AM WAITING FOR AN INSPECTOR FROM CHRYSLER TO LOOK AT THE CAR. I HAVE AN INCIDENT FILE OPEN WITH CHRYSLER, #12193081. I ALSO HAVE THE REPORT FROM SHERIFF. SINCE THIS JUST HAPPENED, NO RESOLUTION HAS BEEN DETERMINED. *LA
VEHICLE HESITATES DURING NORNAL OPERATION
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A ROLL OVER, AND UPON IMPACT, THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY . DRIVER HAD NO MAJOR INJURIES., HOWEVER THE DRIVER SUSTAINED CUTS AND A CONCUSSION FROM THE FORCE OF THE VEHICLE SLAMMING ON ITS SIDE. *AK
IN ONE CAR ROLL OVER ACCIDENT, SIDE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, EVEN WHEN VEHICLE SLAMMED ON THE GROUND WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO HAVE THE 2004 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED TO POP BACK UP ON IT'S TIRES.*JB
FROM MARCH 5 2004, 2 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE OF BRAND NEW JEEP LIBERTY THE WINDOWS HAVE FALLEN DOWN A TOTAL OF 14 TIMES. AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED I HAVE HAD TO PAY A TOTAL OF OVER $780. FOR REPAIR. I AM 76 & ON SOCIAL SECURITY. THE BACK WINDOW HAS FALLEN AGAIN 2 DAYS AGO & I CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE IT FIXED. *TR
COMPLAINT RECEIVED VIA E-MAIL, I'M SURE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH A JEEP LIBERTY THAT PULLS TO THE RIGHT. MY FAMILY HAS 2 2004 LIBERTY. ONE BROUGHT FEBRUARY THIS YEAR AND CAME STRAIGHT OUT OF THE SHOWROOM, PULLING BADLY TO THE RIGHT. I HAD TO TAKE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES, AND FINALLY WAS SENT TO AN ALIGNMENT PLACE. BOUGHT ANOTHER LIBERTY IN JUNE, AND IT'S PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THIS IS DANGEROUS."*AK
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT HOLD IT'S SPEED WHEN GOING DOWN AN INCLINE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND REPLACED THE CRUISE CONTROL SERVO, BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK (CRUISE HAD NO BACK PRESSURE WHEN GOING DOWN HILLS) *SC
WHILE IN DRIVE ON AN INCLINE VEHICLE WILL ROLL BACK AND NEED TO APPLY BRAKES TO HOLD POSITION! DEALER HAS LOOKED AT TRANSMISSION AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. *AK
GLASS FOR THE HATCHBACK BROKE WITHOUT WARNING.*AK
HOOD LATCH FAILURE CAUSING EXTENSIVE MOTOR VEHICLE DAMAGE. *JB
2004 JEEP LIBERTY PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG IS TURNED OFF AUTOMATICALLY FOR ADULT AND TEENAGE PASSENGERS UNDER 110 LBS. THERE IS NO OVER-RIDE TO THIS DESIGN.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH A GAS ODOR PENETRATED THROUGH THE VENTS. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER. AFTER PULLING OVER CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE HOOD. THEN, VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *AK
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED FOR NO LOGICAL REASON. THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND COLLIDED WITH AN EMBANKMENT. THE VEHICLE NEVER RAN OVER ANYTHING OR HIT ANYTHING BEFORE THE MISHAP. THE CONSUMER SUFFERED A SPRAINED WRIST, A CONCUSSION AND TRAUMA TO HIS BACK. THE CONSUMER ALSO REPORTED THAT BEFORE THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, THAT ELECTRICAL CURRENTS FROM THE STEERING WHEEL WERE SHOCKING WHO EVER DROVE THE VEHICLE. THIS ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAS HAPPENED ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND THE DEALER HAS TRIED TO FIND THE SOURCE. FAILURE OF BRAKES TO STOP IN TIME TO AVOID A CRASH. TWO CRASHES, ONE OF WHICH TOTALED THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO TWO BODY SHOPS AND AN INDEPENDANT ADJUSTER. THREE NEAR INTERSECTION COLLISION DURING WET WEATHER. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN IN TO INGRAM PARK AUTO CENTER FOR BRAKE COMPLAINTS, AND I WAS TOLD THE BRAKES WRE FINE!!*AK
I DISCOVERED THE RECALL ON JEEP LIBERTY ON YOUR WEB PAGE. I CONTACTED JEEP AND THEY DENY ANY KNOWLEDGE OF A RECALL. MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED 7/02 AND CLEARLY FALLS INTO THE SPECIFIED TIME FRAME ON YOUR WEB PAGE BUT JEEP DENIES THIS. HER HUSBAND AND HIS EMPLOYER WERE TRYING TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE INTO THE WORK BAY, DUE TO A BROKEN BALL JOINT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE STEERED. THE CONSUMERS HUSBAND WAS GUIDING THE VEHICLE WITH A FLOOR JACK, WHILE THE OTHER MECHANIC WAS GENTLY GIVING IT GAS TO SLOWLY MOVE FORWARD, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE VEHICLE SHOT FORWARD AT FULL SPEED ON ITS OWN. THE CONSUMERS HUSBAND WAS DRAGGED 15 FEET THEN CRUSHED AGAINST IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION. THE CONSUMERS HUSBAND WAS SERIOUSLY. INJURED. *JB
