GAS TANK HAS NO FLAP WHERE THE GAS GOES INTO THE TANK. AS A RESULT GAS SLOSHES OUT OF THE TANK WHEN FULL. THE PUMP DOES NOT SHUT OFF AND THE GAS RUNS OUT THE SIDE OF THE TANK. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE VERY DANGEROUS. THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY CHECKED THE OTHER VEHICLES IN THEIR LOT AND SEVERAL WERE THAT WAY AND THEY HAD NO OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I GET GAS. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE EGR VALVE FIVE TIMES. THIS HAS NOT REMEDIED THE PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT IF THIS LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THIS WAS A GOOD INDICATOR THAT THE VEHICLE COULD LOSE POWER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MECHANIC TOLD HIM THAT IF HE DROVE THE VEHICLE OF THE LOT IT WILL BREAK DOWN ON THE ROAD. WAS GIVEN A RENTAL CAR FOR THREE WEEKS. *AK
DRIVING ALONG IN FREEWAY TRAFFIC ON THE 405 IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WHEN THERE WAS A HORRENDOUS SHUDDER AND A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER REAL QUICK AND JUST NARROWLY AVOIDED INVOLVEMENT IN SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO DRIVE NORMALLY. TORQUE CONVERTER AND MISC. TRANSMISSION PIECES WERE REPLACED BY THE DEALER, BUT THERE IS STILL A WEIRD SHUDDER BELOW 60 MPH AND SOME OCCASIONAL LOSS OF POWER. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. ON JUNE 11, 2005, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, HIS WIFE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THE VEHICLE SWERVED AND STRUCK A POST. SHE DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. THE CONTACT HAS NOT NOTIFIED THE DEALER OR THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 26,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL IMPACT CRASH AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT HOWEVER, INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHICH DETERMINED A PRECISE IMPACT MUST OCCUR FOR THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. THE INSURANCE COMPANY IS MAKING THE APPROPRIATE REPAIRS. UPDATED 05/03/06.
FAILURE TO START- USING KEY AND REMOTE STARTER. WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED, IT WENT ALL THE WAY OVER AND THE ENGINE DID NOT CRANK, NO NOISES FROM BATTERY- JUST NOTHING. THIS OCCURRED TWICE OVER A TWO MONTH PERIOD, USUALLY AFTER ABOUT 15-20 MINUTES IT WOULD START. RECENTLY THE PROBLEM HAS PROGRESSED FROM FAILING TO START,TO THE BIGGER PROBLEM OF DYING WHEN IT IS RUNNING. THE VEHICLE WILL BE RUNNING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN DIES WITH NO WARNING. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME, AT ANY SPEED. THE DEALERSHIP HAS HAD THE VEHICLE NOW FOR A WEEK AND CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS JUST OVER 14,000 MILES ON IT AND SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THESE PROBLEMS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN MY OWN VEHICLE. *NM
DAIMLER CHRYSLER - SAFETY RECALL F23 - CONCERNING LOWER BALL JOINT. TAYLOR MOTORS 50 NORTH COLUMBUS ROAD, ATHENS, OH 45701, PHONE: (740) 594-3528. MY WIFE TRIED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THIS RECALL THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS UPSET AND RUDE, STATING THERE WERE AT LEAST 60 PEOPLE AHEAD OF YOU, AND I DID NOT HAVE ANY PARTS. CHRYSLER SEND OUT THESE RECALLS AND NO BODY TOLD ME. NO SCHEDULE TIME WAS GIVEN TO FIX SAFETY RECALL F23 - LOWER BALL JOINTS. *AK
ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK I MADE A STOP TO THE STORE. I DRIVE MAJOR INTERSTATES TO & FROM WORK. I WAS GETTING BACK ON I-74W. THERE IS MAJOR CONSTRUCTION GOING ON & IT'S HEAVY TRAFFIC TIME. I GOT ON THE RAMP TO BLEND IN WITH THE TRAFFIC & BEFORE I COULD ,THE THROTTLE STUCK ON WIDE OPEN. I WAS TRYING TO MERGE & CONTROL THE VEHICLE AT THE SAME TIME. I CONTINUALLY RODE THE BRAKES TO HOLD THE CAR AT BAY. IF I LET OFF THE BRAKE, THE THROTTLE WAS STILL STUCK & TOOK OFF WITH PACE. I KEPT APPLYING THE BRAKE I STARTED TO SMELL SOMETHING BURN. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE DASH WARNING LIGHT CAME ON . THIS IS MINUTES AFTER I STARTED WITH THE PROBLEM. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT WAS FLASHING. AS SOON AS I GOT OUT OF THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE I PULLED THE CAR OVER & SHUT THE MOTOR OFF. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AND THEY HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED IN. THEY NOTIFIED ME THE NEXT DAY AND TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE APP SENSOR (ACCELERATOR PEDAL PRESSURE SENSOR) AND THAT THEY HAVE TO ORDER THE PART FROM NASHVILLE, TN. THEY GAVE ME A LOANER CAR TO DRIVE UNTIL THE REPAIRS ARE MADE,WHICH HOPEFULLY WILL BE MONDAY 3/20/06. THIS REALLY UPSET MYSELF AND MY HUSBAND BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM COULD HAVE LED TO A MAJOR ACCIDENT, BODILY INJURY,AND OR DEATH TO MYSELF AND OTHER USERS OF THE HIGHWAY. AIRBAG OFF LIGHT COMES ON WITH ADULT IN PASSENGER SEAT. SEEMS TO GO OFF ONLY OVER 110LB. MANY ADULT PASSENGERS AROUND 100LB AND THUS DO NOT HAVE SAFETY OF SYSTEM ON. BEEN TO DEALER THREE TIMES. THEY SAY NOTHING CAN BE DONE."IT CHECKS OUT. OK" *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. IN 2005, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH FRONT LOWER PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE BALL JOINTS. TWO YEARS LATER, WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE BALL JOINTS FAILED AND FELT LIKE A TIRE HAD BLOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS A MAJOR MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT COULD PLACE OTHERS IN DANGER. RECALL E14 TRANSMISSION CUP PLUG BRACKET. *JB
TRAVELING INTERSTATE 94, APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, UNAVOIDABLE TIRE DEBRIS ON ROADWAY. MY VEHICLE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL STRUCK RUBBER TRUCK TIRE CASING WHICH JUST BLEW OFF TRUCK. THE VALVE STEM OF MY TIRE BROKE OFF INSTANTLY DEFLATING THE TIRE. THE VALVE STEM IS PART OF THE SIEMENS BDO TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SYSTEM INSTALLED ON DAIMLER CHRYSLER VEHICLES AND MY JEEP LIBERTY. THE STEM BROKE AT THE STEM CAP THREAD. MY DEALERSHIP HAS REPORTED MANY FAILURES TO DAIMLER CHRYSLER THERE IS NO RECALL OR REPLACEMENT WHICH FIXES THE FAULT. THE ASSEMBLY MATERIAL IS SOME ALUMINUM ALLOY AND WILL READILY SNAP OFF IF PRESSURE IS APPLIED LATERALLY AT THE TIP OF THE VALVE STEM EVEN THE BRUSHES AT THE CAR WASH BREAK THESE VALVE STEMS.
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING UNUSUAL DRIVE LINE VIBRATIONS (24-26 MPH). THE DEALERSHIPS SERVICE MANAGER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE PRESENTS OF THIS ISSUE ALTHOUGH INDICATED THAT THIS IS NORMAL AND HEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME, THEREFORE REFUSING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE DRIVEN SEVERAL VEHICLES OF EXACT YEAR AND TYPE AND I DID NOT NOTE THE SAME CONDITION. OTHER THAN BEING AN ANNOYANCE ESPECIALLY FOR A NEW VEHICLE, ITS MY CONCERN THAT THIS MAY INDICATE A PENDING DRIVE LINE FAILURE THAT WOULD PRESENT A SAFETY CONCERN FOR MY FAMILY. *JB

THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT HAD RAINED ON AND OFF THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT AND MORNINGE WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH DOWN A ROAD TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AND SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE HAD NO STEERING, IT WENT OVER THE MEDIAN, AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THEN BOUNCED BACK INTO HER LANE. THE VEHICLE HIT THE DRIVER'S SIDE CORNER OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. NO POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN, BUT THE POLICE WAS CALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF FRONT END DAMAGE DONE TO THE VEHICLE. *AK
THE TIRE JACK THAT CAME WITH MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY BENT UNDER THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS NOT ONLY DANGEROUS TO PERSONS NEAR OR UNDER THE VEHICLE, BUT MADE THE JACK UNABLE TO LIFT THE VEHICLE TO A HEIGHT ADEQUATE TO CHANGE THE TIRE. THE SERVICE PERSON FROM AAA LAUGHED WHEN HE SAW WHAT JEEP HAD PROVIDED. *JB
THE LOWER FRONT BALL JOINTS ON MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY 4X4 WITH 26000 MILES SHOW EXCESSIVE WEAR. DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE JOINT TOTAL FAILURE WILL RESULT IN THE BALL AND SOCKET SEPARATING FROM THE SPINDLE/WHEEL ASSEMBLY. A FAILURE OF THIS NATURE WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS EXCESSIVE WEAR HAS MANIFESTED ITSELF IN A LOUD CLUNKING WHICH HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE FOR 3000 MILES BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT LOCATE THE PROBLEM. I FOUND THE PROBLEM WHEN DOING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND MEASURED THE UP AND DOWN MOVEMENT IN THE JOINT TO BE .25 INCHES. WHEN THE DEALER WENT TO INSTALL THE NEW JOINTS HE ALSO FOUND THE UPPER BALL JOINTS TO BE BAD. I HAD A PREVIOUS LIBERTY(2002) WHICH WAS RECALLED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM AND ASSUMED JEEP HAD FIXED THE BALL JOINTS. OBVIOUSLY THEY HAVE NOT. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL INCIDENTS REPORTED ALREADY (LOSTKJ.COM) WHERE PEOPLE HAVE HAD A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE ASSOCIATED WITH THESE JOINTS. JEEP MUST FIX THIS DESIGN ASAP. SUSPENSION COMPANY MOOG HAS ALREADY DESIGNED A REPLACEMENT BALL JOINT THAT IS MORE ROBUST AND GREASABLE. JEEP MUST BE FORCED TO DO SOMETHING. *NM
2005 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT WITH CONCERNS ABOUT RECALL ON LOWER BALL JOINT**CC THE CONSUMER WAS UPSET THAT KNOW ONE AT HER LOCAL DEALERSHIP MENTIONED THE RECALL ON THE LOWER BALL JOINTS, DESPITE THE FACT SHE HAD BEEN THERE SEVERAL TIRES TO HAVE HER VEHICLE SERVICED. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DID NOT HOLD, THE DEALER ADJUSTED THE PARKING BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WOULD PULL TO THE LEFT, THE DEALER PERFORMED AN ALIGNMENT. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED INTERMITTENTLY, WHILE PULLING IN OR OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT RESPOND. IF THE VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE IT MUST BE PUT IN REVERSE THEN DRIVE TO MOVE AND VICE VERSA. ALSO, THE LIGHTS, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR, FLICKER ON AND OFF. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH AND UPGRADED THE SOFTWARE. THIS HAS NOT REMEDIED THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE NO CODES ON THE COMPUTER OR BLACK BOX AND THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT DUPLICATE EITHER PROBLEM. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVESE IT DID MOVE AND THEN STOPPED. THE CONSUMER STATED IT FELT AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEUTRAL. UPDATED 02/21/06. *JB
A MINOR IMPACT INTO THE REAR OF A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY BY A MID SIZE LEXUS SUV TRAVELING ABOUT 15 TO 20 MPH CAUSED THE POORLY DESIGNED AND POORLY LOCATED PLASTIC GAS TANK OF THE JEEP TO RUPTURE AND LEAK PROFUSELY. THANKFULLY THE VEHICLE DID NOT IGNITE ON FIRE OTHERWISE SOMEONE WOULD HAVE DIED. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THIS AND OTHER JEEP PRODUCTS (THE WRANGLER COMES TO MIND) ARE ALLOWED ON THE ROAD. MANY OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE OR HAD REAR MOUNTED GAS TANKS WITH LITTLE OR NO CRUSH SPACE. THE LIBERTY APPEARS TO BE THE WORST WITH WHAT COULD ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS HAVING A GAS TANK MOUNTED BUMPER! ALSO, THE GAS TANK HANGS WELL BELOW THE BUMPER AND IN MOST CASES THE VEHICLE THAT HITS IT FROM BEHIND DIVES UNDER THE JEEPS BUMPER AND HITS THE TANK DIRECTLY. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THESE VEHICLES! *NM
I BROUGHT THIS CAR NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP SO KNOWING THAT IT WAS NEW I DIDN'T THINK TO HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH IT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNS ON THE CAR SO I TAKE THE CAR TO GET CHECK WHERE I BROUGHT IT SO WHEN I DO THEY KEEP THE CAR FOR A AT LEAST A WEEK AND I STAY WITH OUT A CAR. SO THEY GIVE ME THE CAR BACK AND THEN AGAIN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM I TAKE IT BACK TO GET FIXED AND AGAIN THEY TELL ME THEY FIXED IT AND GIVES IT BACK TO ME. THEY TOLD ME THAT MOST LIKELY IT'S A FACTORY MANUFACTURE PROBLEM. HAVING ALL THOSE PROBLEMS WITH THIS AUTO; I WANT TO CANCEL THE PURCHASE OF THIS AUTO. *NM
TL* - THE CONTACT CALLED REGARDING THE 2005 CHRYSLER JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL 06V288000 ON 3/10/07. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN JANUARY 2007 THE VEHICLE FAILED THE STATE INSPECTION BECAUSE OF THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. SHE CALLED A DAIMLER CHRYSLER DEALER AND SHE WAS PUT ON A WAITING LIST. THE CONTACT STATED SHE DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. THE CONTACT STATED ON 1/9/07 SHE WAS TRAVELING AT 40 MPH, THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE DRY AND SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND HIT A TELEPHONE POLE. THERE WAS FRONT END DAMAGE AND DAMAGE TO THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER TIRES. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS BEFORE THE CRASH. THE CONTACT WAS BELTED THERE WERE TWO SERIOUS INJURIES. THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOOK PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE CONTACT HAD CONTACTED DAIMLER CHRYSLER, AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD LOOK INTO THE INCIDENT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE BOTH 19000. *AK
UPON APPROACHING A RED LIGHT, I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO MAKE A STOP. AT THAT TIME THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. NOT KNOWING IF I WAS GOING TO BE ABLE TO STOP I PULLED ALONG THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RELEASED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE. WHEN I DID THIS THE ENGINE KICKED BACK DOWN TO A NORMAL IDLING SPEED. I DID CONTACT MY DEALERSHIP AND JEEP MANUFACTURING. WAITING ON A REPLY FROM JEEP. *JB
BOTH OF MY BACK WINDOWS FELL DOWN INTO THE DOOR. I AM MARRIED AND NO CHILDREN LIVING AT HOME SO THE BACK SEAT IS NEVER USED. WE HAVE RIGGED THE WINDOWS INTO THE DOOR SO THEY WILL STAY SHUT. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS AMERICAN MADE CAR. I WANTED TO SUPPORT THE U.S. ECONOMY BY BUYING A CHRYSLER PRODUCT AND I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED THAT CHRYSLER WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. MY JEEP LIBERTY IS A 2005 MODEL. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE CONSUMES OIL THROUGH THE BREATHER AND PROCESSED IN THE ENGINE COOLANT GIVING THE ENGINE A FOUL SMELL. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AT THE LOCAL SERVICE DEALER WERE IT WAS DETERMINED THIS WAS A NORMAL FUNCTION IN THE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY BOTH AGREED AND SUPPORTED THE DEALERS DETERMINATION. *NM
JEEP ANNOUNCED A RECALL ON 2005 JEEP LIBERTY'S, RECALL #05V460000. THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN BY MY DAUGHTER WHO IS A STUDENT AT JOHN'S HOPKINS IN BALTIMORE. DUE TO HER WORK LOAD, I FLEW FROM NOVI TO BALTIMORE MD, TO HAVE THE RECALL SERVICE COMPLETED AND AN APPOINT MENT MADE ON 12/9 WHEN THE NOTICE WAS RECEIVED. I ARRIVED AT THE DEALER , ANTWERPEN AND THE TIME ASSIGNED AND AFTER HOUR I AM INFORMED THAT THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. I POLITELY ASKED THAT WHEN MY DAUGHTER RETURNS THE CAR TO BE REPAIRED THE NEXT TIME THAT THEY PROVIDE HER WITH TRANSPORTATION, SINCE WE MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND I FLEW OUT TO GET IT DONE. GRANTED I WAS THERE TO HELP HER WITH OTHER ISSUES, BUT THIS WAS THE MAIN REASON FOR THE TRIP. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS NOT POSSIBLE. I THE CONTACTED DAIMLER CHRYSLER (CASE NUMBER 14424386). THEY CALLED ME BACK SEVERAL HOURS LATER TO TELL ME THAT THEY SUPPORT THE DECISION OF THE ANTWERPEN JEEP IN BALTIMORE AND WILL NOT PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION. I UNDERSTAND THAT RECALLS HAPPEN, BUT MY ISSUE IS THAT IF I TAKE TIME TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, AND THEN THEY CAN NOT PERFORM THE SERVICE ON A SAFETY RECALL, DAIMLER CHRYSLER OR ANTWERPEN HAS TO ASSUME THE LIABILITY OF PROVIDING MY DAUGHTER TRANSPORTATION WHILE THE VEHICLE IS RETURNED FOR SECOND TIME. *JB

TOOK THE CAR TO THE SERVICE DEPT WHO FOUND METAL INSIDE THE OIL PUMP, WHICH CAUSED THE OIL PUMP TO FAIL AND THE ENGINE WAS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. COMPLETE ENGINE REPLACEMENT...STILL WAITING ON THE ENGINE WHICH HAD TO BE ORDERED. OWNED THE JEEP 3 WEEKS AND HAS 1000 MILES ON IT. *JB
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WOULD REMAIN LOCKED AS VEHICLE CAME TO STOP, SIMILAR TO A MANUAL TRANSMISSION IF YOU DID NOT DEPRESS THE CLUTCH. MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY WITH 44,000 MILES HAS BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS RUST OUT, THE RIGHT SIDE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM HAS BUCKLED DUE TO THIS CORROSION AND NEARLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN ABUSED OR MODIFIED IN ANY WAY THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS PREMATURE CORROSION. THE DRIVESHAFT ALSO HAS SEVER RUST AND PERHAPS THERE ARE MORE PARTS THAT I COULD NOT SEE THAT ARE EXHIBIT PREMATURE CORROSION. PURCHASED 2005 JEEP LIBERTY 9/29/05. THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR LIGHT WAS ON IMMEDIATELY. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND COMPLAINED THAT THE VEHICLE PULLS BADLY TO THE RIGHT, ESPECIALLY AT 65+ MPH. THE DEALERSHIP FIXED THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR, BUT TOLD ME THE PULLING TO THE RIGHT MUST BE DUE TO ROAD CONDITIONS. AFTER READING OTHER CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS, I DOUBT IT. WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT IS DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN IN LANE. IF LARGE TRACTOR-TRAILER TRUCKS PASS THIS WILL CREATE EVEN MORE INTENSE STRUGGLE TO KEEP VEHICLE ON THE ROAD. DT: THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT A BRAKE PROBLEM. SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE THE BRAKES HAVE FELT SPONGY. WHEN APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. IT STOP THE VEHICLE, BUT THE PRESSURE HAD TO BE FIRM ENOUGH TO PRESS THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. 2005 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED V-6 PURCHASED JULY 18, 2005, SERVICE DATE AUG. 24, 2005, MILEAGE 758 MILES. THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN GENTLY UNDER MILD CONDITIONS SINCE PURCHASE, 10 MILES EACH WAY TO WORK ON SURFACE STREETS. BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED. OWNER BECAME AWARE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. WHILE STOPPED IN TRAFFIC, IDLING AND FOOT ON THE BRAKE, AFTER 30-60 SECONDS BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY SINKS TO THE FLOOR. ORANGE LIGHT UNDER BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHTS UP WITH THE ERROR MESSAGE "TYPE 43". DEALER HAS CAR AND IS REPLACING BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, WHICH WAS FOUND TO BE CORRECTLY INSTALLED BUT A DEFECTIVE OEM PART. THE DEALER HAS BEEN COOPERATIVE SO FAR. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR A NEW CAR HAVING A MALFUNCTION WITH LESS THAN 800 MILES ON IT. THE POINT OF A NEW CAR IS NOT HAVING TO WORRY. ALSO GAS MILEAGE IS SUBSTANTIALLY UNDER THE ADVERTISED RATE. STICKER SAYS 17 CITY, 22 HIGHWAY, AVERAGE HAS BEEN 12.5 MPG DRIVING SURFACE STREETS, 20 MILES PER DAY RT.
WE HAVE A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. WE PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO 1ST GEAR MANUALLY AND IT SHIFTS OUT OF 1ST AND INTO SECOND GEAR WHILE GOING DOWN STEEP INCLINES. THIS CREATES A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR US SINCE WE LIVE ON A STEEP INCLINE AND DRIVE ON SNOW AND ICE. THE TRANSMISSION WILL START OUT IN 1ST AND THEN AFTER REACHING ABOUT 1200 -1600 RPM IT WILL SHIFT AUTOMATICALLY INTO SECOND GEAR (WITHOUT MOVEMENT OF THE GEAR SHIFTER) AND THEN SHIFT BACK DOWN TO 1ST AFTER 3600 RPM. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY CLAIM THAT THEY DON'T HAVE A HILL GEAR. I HAVE WENT TO THE CHRYSLER WEB SITE AND FILED A COMPLAINT ASKING FOR ASSISTANCE AND TELLING THEM THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, BUT THEY FAIL TO RESPOND COMPETENTLY. THEY CONTINUALLY TELL ME TO GO BACK TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP THAT TOLD ME THAT JEEP DOESN'T HAVE A HILL GEAR. I INSISTED THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT THIS VEHICLE IS MADE FOR FOUR WHEELING UP AND DOWN STEEP INCLINES AND THE TRANSMISSION CAN NOT COME OUT OF THE GEAR THAT WILL LET YOU SAFELY NEGOTIATE THE TERRAIN. THEY RESPONDED WITH THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH INFORMATION TO MAKE AN ASSESSMENT. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE LIFE OF MY WIFE AND I HERE, BUT THEY DON'T CARE OR UNDERSTAND. I HAVE OWN 4X4 VEHICLES ALL MY LIFE AND NONE OF THEM HAVE ACTED LIKE THIS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS RUN THEIR COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS ON THE TRANSMISSION AND FAILED TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG, BUT THEY FAILED TO TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM ACROSS THE BOARD WITH THE JEEP LIBERTY AND CHRYSLER IS TRYING TO COVER IT UP, BY GIVING BOGUS ANSWERS LIKE WE DON'T HAVE A HILL GEAR AND WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH INFORMATION TO MAKE AN ASSESSMENT. *JB
2005 JEEP LIBERTY CRD ENGINE SUDDENLY FAILED ON A MAJOR ROAD. VEHICLE WAS PUSHED OFF ROAD AND TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS FOUND THE EGR VALVE FAILED. PART WAS REPLACED 10 DAYS LATER, AND RETURNED. APPROX 2 WEEKS LATER THE EGR CONTROL VALVE WENT BAD AND 6 WEEKS LATER WAS REPLACED BY DEALERSHIP, WHEN I WENT TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE IT WOULD NOT START. I WAS TOLD THE EGR VALVE HAD GONE BAD AGAIN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB

I STOPPED MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY IN THE DRIVEWAY OF MY HOME AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK REMOVED THE KEY AND OPENED THE DOOR. THE CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS. THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME THAT THE HOLE FOR THE PARK SLOT IN THE TRANSFER CASE WAS DRILLED TOO LARGE, I FEEL IF THAT HAPPENED TO MY CAR HOW MANY OTHERS HAVE A HOLE TOO LARGE, A CHILD COULD BE RUN OVER. THERE WAS NO WARNING WHATSOEVER. *NM
THE VEHICLE WINDSHIELD STARTED TO CRACK FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD UPWARD WITHIN 1,000 MILES. WINDSHIELD CRACKS START BELOW THE WIPERS AND RUN UPWARDS. INFORMED THAT WINDSHIELD MAY NOT HAVE BEEN GLUED PROPERLY AND THAT WINDSHIELD MAY HAVE SLID DOWN DURING INSTALLATION BEFORE GLUE WAS DRY, RESULTING IN WINDSHIELD TOUCHING THE CHASSIS THEREBY CAUSING CRACKS. *JB

THIS EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN SERVICED BY AN AUTHORIZED JEEP SERVICE CENTER (DEALER FROM WHICH VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED) ON FIVE (5) OCCASIONS IN THE PAST SIX (6) MONTHS, WITH NO RESOLUTION.

THE MANUFACTURER TOOK REPORT 19926946 AND ADVISED THEY COULD ASSIST WITH A COPAY TOWARDS THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WASN'T REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
