TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE REFUELING THE VEHICLE, FUEL BEGAN TO SPEW OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V252000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE, STRUCTURE); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 300.
S10 APPROPRIATE HANDLING-LETTER TO THE SECRETARY FROM RE ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE CONSUMER STATED HE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, BUT IT FELT AS THOUGH THEY LOCKED UP. EVENTUALLY, THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN TO NORMAL SPEED. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND NONE OF THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN THREE CRASHES AND THE FRONT DRIVER'S AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE HEAD, MOUTH, AND CLAVICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 20,000.
WE PURCHASED OUR JEEP LIBERTY IN 2005 AND SINCE THEN THE WINDOW REGULATOR AS FAILED IN EVERY WINDOW AT LEAST 2 TIMES AND IN A COUPLE OF THEM 3 TIMES. WE HAVE SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS GETTING THEM REPAIRED AND THEY CONTINUE TO BREAK. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TODAY TRAVELING AROUND 50 MPH AND THE FRONT RIGHT PASSENGER WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING. I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM TO BE EXTREMELY PERVASIVE AROUND THE COUNTRY AND CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL. PLEASE HELP. *TR
TEMPURATURE GAUAGE INDICATES VEHICLE IS OVERHEATING. CHRYSLER SAYS VEHICLE WILL NOT OVERHEAT, THE PROBLEM IS IN THE GAUGE. NO KNOWN REPAIR FOR THE PROBLEM. IT IS STILL UNKNOWN IF IT IS A GAUGE OR ENGINE PROBLEM
DT: THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT SEVERAL PROBLEMS. THE FIRST PROBLEM OCCURRED WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED. THE SECOND PROBLEM INVOLVED THE EGR VALVE WHICH WAS REPLACED. THE THIRD PROBLEM CONCERNED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATING. THERE WAS A POPPING NOISE IN THE REAR END WHEN REVERSING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER, AND AN OIL LEAK WAS DISCOVERED COMING FROM THE RETURN LINE ON THE TURBO. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. *AK UPDATED 01/04/06. *JB
2005 JEEP LIBERTY CRD WILL "SLING SHOT" ITSELF WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP WITH THE A/C ON. WHEN YOU START TO ACCELERATE MAKING A TURN FROM BEING STOPPED THE VEHICLE WILL START TO MOVE AND YOU CAN FEEL, HEAR THE ENGINE GAINING RPM BUT NOT MOVEMENT THEN A SUDDEN SLINGSHOT EFFECT WILL TAKE PLACE. THE SELLING DEALER SAID IT WAS NORMAL FOR A DIESEL ENGINE WITH A TURBO TO DO THIS. ALSO STATED IT WAS IN THE ELECTRONICS AND THERE WASN'T ANY THING THEY COULD DO TO REPAIR IT. I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR A FACTORY BULLETIN TO COME OUT. THIS NEW VEHICLE PULLS TO THE RIGHT CONSTANTLY, I REQUESTED THE ALIGNMENT TO BE CORRECTED DURING THE SAME DEALERSHIP VISIT AS ABOVE. I WAS TOLD MY ALIGNMENT WAS CHECKED AND THERE WAS NO ABNORMAL TIRE WEAR SO IT MUST BE THE CROWN OF THE ROAD CAUSING THE PULL OR DRIFT. THIS VEHICLE ALSO SURGES WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED AND YOU START UP AN INCLINE, IT WILL CONTINUE TO SURGE AS LONG AS THE INCLINE LASTS. AFTER PICKING THE VEHICLE UP AT THE DEALERSHIP TODAY I STARTED HOME AND ALL THREE OF THE FAULTS OCCURRED. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SHOP FOREMAN WENT WITH ME , WHERE THE VEHICLE AGAIN ACTED UP. HE SAID THERE WAS NOT ANY THING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE SURGING AND THE ALIGNMENT AND THE SLING SHOTTING WAS TURBO LAG. I HAVE NOT DIVEN THE VEHICLE ON WET OR SNOW COVERED PAVEMENT, HOWEVER, WITH WHAT DOES I NOT SURE I WANT TO.

HAVE 2005, LIBERTY SPORT, 4X4 W/AUTOMATIC TRANSMISION, DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING AT SPEED AROUND 65 MPH THE CAR WANDERED LEFT AND RIGHT AND WILL NOT STAY IN A STREIGHT LINE, THE STEERING WHEEL HAS 3/4 TO 1" PLAY, NEW JEEP WITH ONLY 13 MILES ON IT. IF PASSED BY A TRUCK VEHICLE ALMOST LOST CONTROL.*AK
WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED, AND THE DRIVER SEAT BELT FAILED, CAUSING CONSUMER'S HEAD TO STRIKE THE STEERING WHEEL.*AK UPDATED 07/07/06. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE FUELING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED FUEL BEGAN TO SPRAY OUT ONCE THE FUEL TANK WAS FULL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000. UPDATED 05/11/12 *BF
MY WIFE WAS WORKING LATE AND LEFT TO COME HOME AROUND 7:30 PM. SHE WORKS ABOUT 30-45 MINUTES AWAY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN AND TRAVELS VERY STEEP AND WINDY ROADS. AS SHE WAS COMING HOME SHE HEARD A NOISE COME FROM THE FRONT END AND DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT. AS SHE WAS COMING UP THE PRIVATE DIRT ROAD TO OUR HOUSE ALL OF A SUDDEN THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE OF THE JEEP COLLAPSED AND THE TIRE POPPED. SHE COULD NOT MOVE AT ALL SO SHE WALKED THE REST OF THE WAY HOME AND WHEN SHE GOT HOME I WALKED DOWN TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. SURE ENOUGH WHAT HAPPENED WAS THE BOLT HOLDING THE LOWER A-ARM CAME OFF AND THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY WAS SITTING ON THE GROUND AND HAD MADE A HUGE HOLE IN THE TIRE. LUCKY THIS DID NOT HAPPEN GOING UP THE STEEP AND WINDY ROADS OVER THE MOUNTAIN OTHER WISE SHE WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT. WE CALLED THE CHRYSLER ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE AND HAD THE JEEP TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE NEXT DAY WE CALLED THE DEALER THEY GAVE US A LOANER CAR. ABOUT A WEEK LATER WE PICKED UP THE JEEP THEY HAD REPLACED BOTH FRONT BALL JOINTS AND REPLACED THE TIRE WITH A BRAND NEW ONE. WE ONLY HAD OUR 05 RENEGADE FOR JUST OVER A YEAR AND ABOUT 31000 MILES ON IT. *JB
MFG SEEMS UNABLE TO PROVIDE PARTS FOR RECOGNIZED RECALL TO MY ESTABLISHED JEEP DEALER TO INSTALL TRAILER HITCH TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL MECHANICAL PROTECTION FOR FUEL TANK.
NO ACCIDENT AS YET. PURCHASED VEHICLE AND NOTICE AFTER 1 DAY THAT STEERING CONTROL WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE. STEERING ON VEHICLE HAS BOTH PLAY AND STICTION REDUCING VEHICLE CONTROL AND REQUIRING INTENSE CONCENTRATION TO CONTINUOUSLY MAINTAIN DIRECTION.
SAFETY RECALL F23 LOWER BALL JOINTS WATER MAY ENTER INTO THE FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER BALL JOINTS THIS CAN CAUSE THE BALL JOINT TO CORRODE AND SEPARATE. BALL JOINT SEPARATION CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH W/O PRIOR WARNING. CONTACTED DEALER TO GET APPOINTMENT ON 3/5/07 TOLD COULDN'T MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR OVER A MONTH OR SO BACK ORDER ON RECALL DEALER ONLY GETS 3 A WEEK. *JB

2005 JEEP LIBERTY WITH A RECALL FOR THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. CUSTOMER STATES THAT SHE NOTICED THE METAL ON THE TIRES COMING OUT. MECHANIC TOLD HER THE BALL JOINTS WERE ON TOO TIGHT AND THREW THE JEEP OUT OF ALIGNMENT. *KB THE CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR NEW TIRES, ALIGNMENT, WASTE TIRE FEE AND LABOR. THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED SOMEONE SHOULD HAVE NOTICED HOW BADLY THE ALIGNMENT WAS.*JB
