THE NHTSA SAFETY RECALL OF MY JEEP LIBERTY TO REPAIR A DEADLY DEFECT WITH THE PLACEMENT OF THE FUEL TANK HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED BY CHRYSLER. THEY INFORMED ME OF THE RECALL IN DECEMBER, 2013, BUT THE DEALER (JIM RIEHL'S FRIENDLY CHRYSLER JEEP IN WARREN, MI) TOLD ME THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PART YET. WHEN I CALLED THAT SAME ESTABLISHMENT ON MARCH 3, 2014 TO SCHEDULE THE IMPORTANT SAFETY REPAIR, I WAS GIVEN THE SAME RESPONSE - THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PART IN STOCK YET. TODAY I JUST RECEIVED A MAILING FROM JIM RIEHL'S FRIENDLY JEEP IN WARREN MI WHICH STATES:"RECALL NOTICE. AS OF DECEMBER 12, 2013, THIS VEHICLE HAS THE FOLLOWING INCOMPLETE RECALLS/CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTICES: N46 (N46 / NHTSA 13V-252) PLEASE CONTACT US TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. RECALL/CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTICE REPAIRS WILL BE PERFORMED FREE." WHEN I CALLED RUSS IN SERVICE AT THAT SAME FRIENDLY JEEP TODAY, MAY 28, 2014 - - PART NOT YET IN STOCK. THE KEY CANNOT BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. TRIED RESTARTING AND SHUTTING OFF VEHICLE, MADE SURE IT WAS COMPLETELY IN PARK AND EVEN WIGGLED THE KEY BACK AND FORTH. THE KEY HAS BEEN STUCK IN THE IGNITION EVER SINCE. NOTHING ELSE IS AFFECTED BY THIS JUST CANNOT REMOVE THE KEY. *TR

I RECIVED A RECALL NOTICE AT LEAST 7-8 MONTHS AGO AND, AFTER WAITING PATIENTLY FOR MANY MONTHS I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE PARTS HAD NOT BEEN RECEIVED. LATER, I ALSO CALLED CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD THE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN ABOUT ONE MONTH. NOW, THEY ARE STILL TELLING ME "IN ANOTHER MONTH OR SO." I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE, IF I AM REAR-ENDED DUE TO NO FAULT OF MY OWN, I WILL NOT BE PROTECTED FROM A FIREY EXPLOSION. *JS

MY COMPLAINT IS ACTUALLY ABOUT NHTSA! IN JUNE OF 2013, NHTSA PETITIONED CHRYSLER TO RECALL (RECALL NUMBER N46) JEEP LIBERTY VEHICLES INCLUDING MODEL YEARS 2002 - 2007. ACCORDING TO CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE, MY 2006 JEEP LIBERTY IS INCLUDED. APPARENTLY, THERE IS A RISK OF FUEL TANK PUNCTURE, AND SUBSEQUENT FIRE IN THE CASE OF REAR-END COLLISION. CHRYSLER, AFTER INITIALLY REFUSING TO ISSUE THE RECALL, CAVED IN TO NHTSA PRESSURE. WHEN I SPOKE WITH CHRYSLER TODAY, FIVE MONTHS AFTER THEY AGREED TO THE RECALL, THEY INDICATED THAT THEY ARE WAITING ON NHTSA REVIEWS AND APPROVAL OF CHRYSLER'S RECALL PROPOSAL TO INSTALL A TRAILER HITCH IN UNDER-EQUIPPED VEHICLES, IN ORDER TO STRENGTHEN THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE AND PREVENT GAS TANK PUNCTURES IN THE EVENT OF A LOW-SPEED REAR-END COLLISION. IT SEEMS COUNTER INTUITIVE THAT NHTSA WOULD PRESSURE A MANUFACTURER TO ISSUE A RECALL, AND THEN HOLD UP THE PROCESS OF REPAIRING AFFECTED VEHICLES WHEN THE MANUFACTURER FINALLY AGREES. HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FILL UP MY GAS TANK COMPLETELY SINCE THIS PAST FALL. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AUGUST 2013 FROM AN AUTHORIZED CHRYSLER/JEEP DEALERSHIP. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT USER ERROR AT THE GAS PUMP. I HAVE OWNED AT LEAST A FEW DIFFERENT CARS AND UNDERSTAND HOW TO USE A GAS PUMP. I'VE FILLED THE JEEP LIBERTY AT LEAST A DOZEN DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS AND IT DOES IT EVERY TIME AND THE GAS SENSOR AT THE PUMP WILL NOT SHUT OFF. I HAVE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO HAVE WESTBURY JEEP SERVICE CENTER ON JANUARY 15,2013 TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE SINCE THE GAS OVERFLOW IS A POTENTIAL HAZARD. *TR
CAR WAS DISABLED DUE TO DEFECTIVE TAB INSIDE STEERING COLUMN. PART WAS REPLACED IN 2010, COSTING $600 TO REPAIR. HAPPENED AGAIN 10/25/13 COSTING OVER $1,000 TO REPAIR. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED. THIS PART CANNOT BE MAINTAINED AND IS NOT SUBJECT TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THIS PART BREAKS OFTEN AND WILL DISABLE A VEHICLE, LEAVING A FAMILY STRANDED. *TR
TODAY WAS THE 3RD TIME MY WINDOW ELECTRICAL WINDOW MECHANISM HAS BROKE. THE FIRST TIME, CHRYSLER PAID TO FIX IT AS IT WAS ONE OF THEIR - HIDDEN - DEFECTS THAT THEY DO NOT WISH TO PUBLISH. NOW THEY SAY THAT THEY NO LONGER COVER THE DEFECT AS THE CAR IS OLDER. IF THERE IS A DESIGN ISSUE AND A KNOWN ONE, SHOULD THEY NOT HAVE TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT? NOW I WILL HAVE TO SPEND ANOTHER $250 OR MORE TO GET IT FIXED. JEEP NEEDS TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. *TR
MY WINDOWS FALL DOWN DUE TO A FAULTY WINDOW REGULATOR. EACH WINDOW HAS FALLEN AT LEAST ONCE. MY BACK PASSENGER JEEP WINDOW HAS BEEN FIXED TWICE AND FELL AGAIN LAST YEAR. ORIGINALLY I WAS TOLD MY WINDOWS WERE FIXED VIA A RECALL, BUT WHEN I CALLED LAST YEAR AND AGAIN TODAY IN REFERENCE TO MY WINDOW FALLING FOR A THIRD TIME, I WAS TOLD THE ISSUE WAS FIXED VIA AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, WHICH HAS SINCE EXPIRED. I CALLED THE CHRYSLER/JEEP COMPLAINT LINE TODAY AND WAS TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS WILL BE THE SEVENTH TOTAL TIME A WINDOW ON MY CAR WILL HAVE TO BE FIXED DUE TO THE FAULTY WINDOW REGULATOR, I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. I UNDERSTAND HOW AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WORKS; HOWEVER, I SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING SOMETHING THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN FIXED TWICE ON ONE WINDOW. NOT ONLY IS THIS A SAFETY HAZARD WHILE DRIVING. EVERY DAY I FEAR SOMEONE WILL GAIN ACCESS TO MY CAR AND EITHER STEAL IT, OR WAIT UNTIL I GET IN THE CAR AND KIDNAP ME OR WORSE. I LOVE MY JEEP; HOWEVER, I WILL NOT REMAIN A JEEP OWNER FOR MUCH LONGER. THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE CONTINUOUSLY HAVE THIS ISSUE. JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE HASN'T DIED FROM IT YET DOESN'T MEAN A RECALL SHOULDN'T BE PLACED ON THE CAR. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOW INDEPENDENTLY AND PARTIALLY OPENED, PREVENTING THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DOOR LOCKS TO UNLATCH WHEN ACCESSED WITH THE KEY FOB OR MANUALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,200.
THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR SOME TIME. WHEN I FILL UP, THE GAS TANKS GUSHES OUT GAS WHEN IT IS FULL. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME THAT I FILL UP WITH GAS. IT SEEMS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS THERE IS ENOUGH FUEL THAT SPILLS ON TO THE GROUND BELOW THE JEEP. I HAVE REPLACED EVERY REGULATOR IN MY JEEP'S WINDOWS. THEY GO OUT ALL OF THE TIME. THE LAST ONE WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING AND THE WINDOW CRASHED DOWN AND SCARED ME TO DEATH. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE A WEEK ON AVERAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE CURRENT FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE SERVICE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE REGULATOR HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

I HAVE A FAULTY WINDOW REGULATOR IN MY BACK RIGHT WINDOW. I HAVE HAD EACH WINDOW FIXED AT LEAST ONCE DUE TO A FAULTY WINDOW REGULATOR. I HAVE ONE WINDOW FIXED TWICE. THIS ISSUE WAS PREVIOUSLY COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY; HOWEVER, THE LATEST ISSUE OCCURRED AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANT EXPIRED. CURRENTLY THE BACK RIGHT WINDOW WON'T STAY UP. I'VE PUSHED IT UP ON A WEEKLY BASIS AND IT SLOWLY FALLS. I'M CONCERNED THAT PRETTY SOON I'LL HAVE TO KEEP THE WINDOW UP USING TAPE OR OTHER MEASURES. IT'S NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH THE WINDOW CONSTANTLY FALLING, ESPECIALLY IF AND WHEN I HAVE CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT OF MY CAR. *JS
THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY JEEP LIBERTY ISSUED OCTOBER OF 2013. IT IS NOW JULY 2014 AND I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY "FOLLOW UP" LETTER. I SPOKE WITH MY DEALER ON MANY OCCASIONS AND THE REMEDY PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXCERPT FROM THE NOTICE SENT TO ME. THIS IS A SERIOUS SITUATION AND IF I AM REAR ENDED, MY CAR COULD EXPLODE. WAITING ALMOST 1 YEAR AFTER A RECALL IS UNACCEPTABLE. "THE PROBLEM IS... THE FUEL TANK ON YOUR VEHICLE HAS A SMALL CHANCE OF EXPERIENCING A FUEL LEAK DURING CERTAIN TYPES OF REAR END COLLISIONS. FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN RESULT IN AN UNDERBODY FIRE. WHAT YOUR DEALER WILL DO? CHRYSLER INTENDS TO INSPECT YOUR VEHICLE AND INSTALL AN ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER (OEM) TRAILER HITCH WHERE APPROPRIATE, FREE OF CHARGE (PARTS AND LABOR) TO BETTER MANAGE CRASH FORCES IN LOW-SPEED IMPACTS. THE PARTS REQUIRED FOR THIS PROGRAM ARE CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE. CHRYSLER IS MAKING ALL REASONABLE EFFORTS TO OBTAIN THE PARTS AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE NEAR CRATER LAKE NATIONAL PARK. THE POWER WINDOW MOTOR SYSTEM BROKE ON THE LEFT REAR PASSENGER DOOR, THUS ALLOWING THE WINDOW TO FREE FALL INTO THE DOOR FRAME. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS AND HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR OF JEEP. THEN NOW IN DECMEBER, THE DRIVERS WINDOW MOTOR SYSTEM HAS BROKEN AGAIN CAUSING THE GLASS WINDOW TO FREE FALL INTO THE DOOR FRAME. IF THIS IS ALL TRUE ABOUT THIS SYSTEM, AND THE FACT THAT I NOW HAVE 2 BROKEN POWER WINDOW MOTORS WHICH WILL COST ME NEARLY $900 TO FIX, I FEEL THIS ITEM SHOULD BE ON A NATIONAL RECALL LIST FOR JEEP TO REPLACE THESE ITEMS SO THEY WILL NOT FAIL. THE LIFT PLATES ON ALL SIDE WINDOWS OF JEEP LIBERTY VEHICLES CAN BE DEFECTIVE. THE WINDOW WILL UNEXPECTEDLY COMPLETELY DROP DOWN. CHRYSLER CORPORATION ACCEPTS THE FACT THERE ARE WINDOW DEFECTIVE LIFT PLATES. THEY EXTENDED THE VEHICLE WARRANTY TO REPLACE THE LIFT PLATE PARTS IF THEY FAIL. TO MY KNOWLEDGE CHRYSLER CORPORATION DID NOT NOTIFY OWNERS ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE PARTS OR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I FOUND THIS INFORMATION OUT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR WINDOW REPAIR AT THE JEEP CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP (THE FARICY BOYS CHRYSLER, JEEP) ON SEPTEMBER 18, 2013. CHRYSLER KNEW ALL THE SIDE WINDOW PARTS WERE DEFECTIVE, BUT WOULD ONLY REPLACE THE WINDOW LIFT PLATES THAT WERE NOT WORKING ON THAT DAY. ANOTHER SIDE WINDOW LIFT PLATE ON THE SAME VEHICLE FAILED ON MAY 30, 2013. WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND A WINDOW COMPLETELY DROPS DOWN IT CAN STARTLE THE DRIVER AND IS A DISTRACTION THAT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN TAKEN IN FOR REPAIR AT THE JEEP CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AND THE COST OF REPAIR NEEDED TO BE PAID BY THE OWNER. IN SUMMARY, CHRYSLER CORPORATION KNEW THE SIDE WINDOW LIFT PLATES ARE DEFECTIVE, BUT WOULD NOT REPLACE ALL THE DEFECTIVE PARTS. I AM ASKING THE NHTSA TO ORDER A MANDATORY RECALL AND REQUIRE CHRYSLER TO FIX ALL WINDOW LIFT PLATES ON THE JEEP LIBERTIES.
