THE SUNROOF LEAKS INTO THE HEADLINER CAUSING MOLD AND ALSO AFFECTING THE ELECTRICAL WIRES IN THE HEADLINER. WE HAVE A 3 YEAR OLD SON AND I BELIEVE THAT THIS COULD CAUSE A THREAT TO HIM AS WELL AS MY WIFE WHO'S DRIVES THE CAR. IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT JEEP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AS WELL AS OTHER MODELS THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, I AM A WARE THAT IT IS A USED CAR BUT WITH THE RESEARCH THAT I HAVE DONE ITS NOT THE FACT THAT IT IS USED, IT WAS A PROBLEM THAT WAS WRONG WHEN THIS 2008 JEEP HAD WHEN IT ROLLED OFF THE LINE, AND I'M CONSERENED FOR MY WIFE AND SONS SAFETY AS WELL AS SO MANY OTHER DEALING WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM!!!! *TR
WHEN FILLING THE VEHICLE UP WITH GASOLINE, IT SPEWS OUT OF THE INTAKE, DRAINING ALL OVER THE VEHICLE AND THE GROUND OF THE GAS STATION. NOT ONLY IS THIS A WASTE OF A RESOURCE AND MONEY BUT IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AS ONE SPARK COULD IGNITE THE ENTIRE GAS STATION KILLING INNOCENT CHILDREN AND OTHER CITIZENS. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ALL OVER THIS SITE AND MANY OTHERS. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED BEFORE PEOPLE ARE HURT. *TR
I HAVE 2 PROBLEMS NUMBER1 IS THE GAS MILEAGE IT GETS THE MILEAGE IT SAYS ON THE INTERNET BUT I FEEL THAT IS BAD FUEL MILEAGE I HAD A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH A V8 AND GOT 25 MILES PER GALLON ON THE HIGH WAY YOU WOULD THINK THAT A V6 WOULD JUST AS GOOD OR BETTER BUT IT IS NOT .SECOND PROBLEM IS FUEL SPILLAGE EVRYTIME YOU FILL UP I HAVE TRIED DIFFERENT THINGS TO TRY AND STOP THE SPILLAGE BUT TO NO AVAIL. I FEEL THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM BUT THERE IS NO RECALLS FOR A 2008 JEEP THEY HAD RECALLS ON SOME OLDER JEEPS BUT NOT MINE IT WOULD BE NICE TO SEE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. VALVE LIFTERS OF THE JEEP LIBERTY 3.6L ENGINE FAILED PREMATURELY AT 40K. MANUFACTURER REFUSED FIXING THE PROBLEM AS TRUCK WAS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, SHE HEARD AN EXCESSIVE WIND NOISE COMING FROM THE SUN ROOF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE NOISE WAS UNBEARABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,276.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT MODERATE SPEEDS, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, HORN AND DOOR LOCKS WOULD ACTIVATE INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE DOORS LOCKED, NO ONE COULD EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE MANUALLY HAD TO BE UNLOCKED FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED NO FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN AUTO MECHANIC WHO WAS ALSO UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE ANY FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
FUEL SHOOTS OUT OF INLET WHEN FILLING GAS TANK. DURING ONE OF THE MANY INCIDENTS THE FUEL SHOT OUT ABOUT 18 INCHES FROM THE FILLER INLET. *TR
WHEN FILLING MY JEEP AT MULTIPLE GAS STATIONS I HAVE EXPERIENCED OVERFLOW. IT RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR AND ALL OVER THE GROUND. IT HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AT DIFFERENT STATIONS. IT SEEMS DANGEROUS AND IS OBVIOUSLY A WASTE OF MONEY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONED AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE COMPUTER AND FUSE BOX MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO A BACK ORDER OF THE PARTS NEEDED FOR REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000. UPDATED 02/15/12*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND ALL THE LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING. THE HORN STARTED HONKING, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED AND THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND EVENTUALLY REPAIRED. UPDATED 02/17/12
EVERY TIME I FILL MY FUEL TANK THE GASOLINE OVERFLOWS AND SPILLS ALL OVER THE VEHICLE AND GROUND. THIS WILL HAPPEN WHEN I FILL AUTOMATICALLY OR MANUALLY. *TR
MY 2008 JEEP LIBERTY HAS OVERFLOWED FUEL WHEN FILLING THE TANK 3 OUT OF THE 6 TIMES I HAVE FILLED IT SINCE PURCHASED ON 11/28. IT HAS HAPPENED AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS. WHEN THE PUMP KICKS OFF THERE IS BETWEEN 2-8 OUNCES OF FUEL THAT SPITS BACK AROUND THE HANDLE WITH A FAIR AMOUNT OF PRESSURE. THE AREA UNDERNEATH THE FILLER CAP IS SOAKED AND A LARGE PUDDLE FORMS ON THE GROUND. I AM CONCERNED THAT AT SOME POINT A FIRE MAY RESULT. I ALSO FEEL I MUST WASH THE CAR AFTER EVERY INCIDENT BECAUSE I WORRY ABOUT THE GAS CAUSING A PAINT DEFECT. *KB
I PURCHASED A USED 2008 JEEP LIBERTY IN MAY OF 2011. EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL MID-DECEMBER 2011 WHILE I WAS FILLING UP THE GAS TANK. THE PUMP SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY BUT GAS SPOUTED OUT OF THE FILL ALL OVER THE PUMP HANDLE AND MY HAND. IT'S A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF GAS SPILLING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND PUDDLING ON THE GROUND. THIS NOW HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FILL THE TANK UNLESS I TRY TO CUT IT OFF EARLY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE OF THE DANGER OF SPILLED GAS AND AN MAJOR INCONVENIENCE. I SEE HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE SO CLEARLY THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM. I STRONGLY URGE NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE AND COMPEL CHRYSLER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR

DEALER WONT FIX!! ! REMOVED SEATS AND CARPET, THREW AWAY PADDING,, REPLACED PADDING CLEANED CARPET, REMOVING BACK HATCH, AND PUTTING GASKETS UNDER HINGES! GOOD THING IM HANDY AND EX-NAVY!! PLEASE TAKE ALL KUDDOS AWAY FROM JEEP INC!! P.S. SOMEONE TRIED TO SILICONE AROUND THAT RIGHT CARGO HATCH HINGE THEN USE TOUCH-UP PAINT ON IT;; I THINK IT WAS THE DEALER; BUT THEY DENY IT!! BUT THE JEEP WAS A LEASE BEFORE I BOUGHT IT!! SO NO ONE ELSE WAS SUPPOSED TO TOUCH THE CAR; RIGHT? I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN ,, IF I HADN'T READ ANOTHER POST DESCRIBING THE VERY SAME PROBLEM!! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE REFUELING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL SPILLED OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. THE FAILURE RECURRED EVERY TIME THE CONTACT WOULD REFUEL THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
AFTER OVER 3 YEARS OF NO PROBLEMS WHEN FUELING OUR LIBERTY, WE BEGAN TO HAVE GAS SPEW OUT AT EVERY FILL-UP. THE PUMP DOES NOT SHUT OFF WHEN THE TANK IS FULL, AND GAS COMES BACK OUT FORCEFULLY ENOUGH TO HIT THE PERSON PUMPING THE GASOLINE. *TR
LARGE AMOUNT OF FUEL VIOLENTLY SPLASHES OUT OF FUEL FILL TUBE EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS FILLED UP. FUEL SPLASHES ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE PERSON FILLING IT. THIS IS A DANGEROUS MALFUNCTION OF THE FUEL SYSTEM. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL THE LIBERTY UP WITH FUEL IS OVERFLOWS AND SPILLS OUT. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF I PUMP THE FUEL FAST OR SLOW, IT SPILLS OUT EVERY TIME. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR ME, MY FAMILY AND EVERYONE AROUND ME WHEN I PUT FUEL IN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AIR WAS ABNORMALLY SEEPING INTO THE VEHICLE FROM THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER IN REGARDS TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V455000 (VISIBILITY: WINDSHIELD), BUT WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
SAFETY CONCERN: WHILE FILLING UP MY 2008 JEEP LIBERTY THE GAS PUMP SHUTS OFF AUTOMATICALLY, BUT A LARGE AMOUNT OF GAS SPILLS OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE ALL OVER THE GROUND, VEHICLE, AND ON THE PERSON PUMPING THE GAS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE GAS VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE WARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 109,000. THE VIN NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE CAR DECIDES WHEN IT WANTS TO START. IT JUST MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE, AFTER ABOUT 8 TRIES IT WILL START. I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY, STARTER AND WIRING HARNESS. THE DOORS JUST STARTED TO NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK A FEW MONTHS BACK. THEY TOLD ME TO CHANGE THE TIPM. I HAVE PUT IN WELL OVER $1000.00 AN NOW THEY WANT ANOTHER $500.00. *TR
A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF GAS SPILLS OUT OF THE FUEL TANK OPENING AFTER THE AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF OF THE PUMPS GAS FLOW. THIS OCCURS ALMOST EVERY TIME I FILL UP. I NOW HAVE TO ONLY ALLOW THE TANK TO FILL UP 3/4 FULL TO AVOID SPILLS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY JEEP LIBERTY, THE WIPERS AND HORN CAME ON SUDDENLY AND THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL PANEL LIT UP. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, THEY FINALLY DETERMINED IT WAS THE TIPM MODULE THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE PART WAS BACKORDERED. I HAVE SINCE FOUND THERE IS A NATIONAL BACKORDER (SINCE 2010) WITH OVER 270+ IN MY AREA ALONE. THE ISSUE BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AS I WOULD GET IN MY CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START. UNLOCKING THE VEHICLE APPEARS TO CAUSE THE AUTOMOBILE TO ENGAGE SOMETHING ELECTRICAL (THOUGH I ONLY OPEN IT MANUALLY - NOT WITH THE KEYLESS ENTRY) WHICH RESULTS IN THE VEHICLE ACTING AS THOUGH IT IS ALREADY ON. MOST RECENTLY, WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 70MPH, I HAD A JOLT BEFORE THE WIPERS/HORN WENT OFF AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON. I BELIEVE THE SYSTEM IS NOW ENGAGING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I HAVE DISCONTINUED DRIVING THE VEHICLE AS A RESULT. I BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE IS A LEMON. THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ONLINE WITH MANY OTHER JEEP OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES. *TR
WHEN FILLING UP AT A GAS STATION, THE GAS TANK OVER FLOWS BEFORE THE PUMP STOPS. I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT IT WAS A BROKEN PUMP, HOWEVER, I HAVE NOW FILLED UP OVER 4 TIMES AT 4 DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. THIS MOST RECENT TIME I HAVE LOST AROUND 1/2 GALLON OF GAS ON THE GROUND. I AM ALSO CONCERNED WITH THE EFFECT OF THE GAS ON MY PAINT/CAR BODY. *TR
STARTING IN NOVEMBER OF 2011, I HAVE HAD OVERFLOW ISSUES WITH MY GAS TANK. EVERY TIME I FILL UP MY LIBERTY, IT OVERFLOWS AFTER THE GAS CLICKS OFF. IT SPEWS OUT EVERYWHERE! IT SEEMS TO SPILL OUT WITH MORE FORCE THE COLDER IT IS OUTSIDE. *TR
SUDDEN ENGINE ACCELERATION INCIDENT. MY WIFE AND I WERE LEAVING A PARKING LOT. AFTER BACKING OUT OF MY PARKING SPACE I DROVE FOR ABOUT 1 MINUTE TO A STOP SIGN. I PUT THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL AND WAITED FOR A CAR TO EXIT THE INTERSECTION AND FOR SOME PEDESTRIANS TO CROSS. SUDDENLY, WITHOUT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RACE. I LOOKED AT THE TACHOMETER. THE ENGINE THAT NORMALLY IDLES AT ABOUT 600 RPM WAS RUNNING AT 2500 RPM. I SAT AT THE STOP SIGN FOR A FEW MOMENTS AND DECIDED THE THROTTLE MUST HAVE STUCK. WITH THE STICK SHIFT IN NEUTRAL I TAPPED THE ACCELERATOR HOPING TO UNSTICK THE THROTTLE. THE ENGINE ROARED TO 3500 RPM AND STAYED THERE FOR 10-20 SECONDS. THEN THE RPMS STARTED TO DROP BACK DOWN TO NORMAL IDLE.. WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND DRY TEMPERATURE 60 DEGREES, TIME 3 PM. IT WAS SCARY. IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN GEAR WHEN THE ENGINE TOOK OFF, I WOULD HAVE TAKEN OFF. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR. *TR
THE LAST 3 TIMES I HAVE FILLED THE GAS TANK ON MY VEHICLE, GAS HAS OVERFLOWED ONTO THE GROUND. AFTER THE 2ND TIME, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED THE CODE READ THAT THE FILLER NECK WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I ADVISED THEM THAT I HAD AN ISSUE WITH GAS OVERFLOWING ONTO THE GROUND WHEN FILLING UP AND WAS ADVISED IT "MAY" BE FIXED BY THE NEW FILLER NECK SINCE THERE IS A SENSOR IN THERE. I HAD THE FILLER NECK REPLACED. I FILLED THE JEEP AGAIN TODAY, ROUGHLY A WEEK AFTER HAVING THE FILLER NECK REPLACED, AND AGAIN GAS OVERFLOWED AND LEAKED DOWN THE SIDE OF MY JEEP AND ONTO THE GROUND. UP UNTIL THIS POINT, WHEN FILLING MY JEEP, THE GAS PUMP WOULD CLICK OFF WHEN THE TANK WAS FULL. I HAVE GONE TO THREE DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS SO IT IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE PUMP AT THE STATION. *TR

AT THE END OF FILLING GAS TANK, GAS BACKWASHES OUT OF THE FILLING TUBE DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR AND ONTO THE GROUND. *TR
BOUGHT THE JEEP NEW FROM JEEP DEALER AND IT CAME WITH A FACTORY INSTALLED 'SKYSLIDER'. WE HARDLY EVER USE THE SKYSLIDER AND AFTER A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM, WE NOTICED WHEN DRIVING THE JEEP, THERE WAS A POPPING NOISE. THE SKYSLIDER HAD BUNCHED UP AND WAS NOT CLOSING. TOOK THE JEEP TO OUR MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A 1" PIECE ON THE TRACK THAT WAS BROKEN AND THE PART WOULD COST APPROX. $1900.!!!. I CALLED CHRYSLER BECAUSE THE JEEP IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AND THIS IS A CLEAR DEFECT. CHRYSLER ADVISE ME TO TAKE THE JEEP TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS...A BROKEN PIECE ON THE FRAME WHICH NEEDED TO HAVE THE WHOLE FRAME REPLACED AT A COST OF - $4K. FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS. THE SKYSLIDER IS DEFECTIVE ON ALL 2008 JEEP LIBERTY MODELS AND THIS COULD CAUSE A FATALITY. THE SKYSLIDER IS MADE OF CANVAS AND CAN POP OFF THE TRACK AND FLY OFF. I CROSS A BRIDE DAILY AND CANNOT DRIVE MORE THAN 20MPH OR THE ROOF STARTS TO LIFT UP. *TR
I OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR 2 1/2 YEARS, MY JEEP LIBERTY HAS A SUNROOF THAT COMPLETELY OPENS UP THE ROOF AND ALL THE SUDDEN ON TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 27,2011 AROUND 5:45 I WAS DRIVING AND TRY TO OPEN THE SUNROOF A LITTLE AND IT OPEN ALL CROOKED AND WITH THE WIND IT WAS LIFTING UP FROM ONE SIDE I HAD TO PULL OVER AND HOLD IT WITH ONE HAND AND DRIVING WITH MY OTHER HAND I HAD TO DRIVE BACK HOME CALLED THE DEALER WITCH WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME THE NEXT DAY I CALLED THE TOWING TRUCK TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER CLOSER TO MY HOUSE AND THEY SEND US 35 MIN. AWAY FROM THERE BECAUSE WE HAD TO TAKE IT WERE WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AND NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. IT'S BEEN 11 DAYS ALREADY AND I STILL DON'T HAVE MY VEHICLE BACK. A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF GAS SPILLS OUT OF THE SPOUT AFTER THE AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF OF THE PUMP'S GAS FLOW. GAS SPILLS DOWN THE VEHICLE, ONTO THE GROUND AND ONTO THE PERSON PUMPING GAS. *KB
I HAVE THE SLIDER SUNROOF AND IT FLEW BACKWARDS WHILE GOING TO WORK IN SEPTEMBER, 5 MONTHS AFTER I HAD IT . TOOK IT TO 3 CAR DEALERSHIPS (ONE CHARGED ME $79.00 TO LOOK AT IT) TO BE TOLD IT HAD TO BE REPLACED AND WOULD BE $2000. I REQUESTED HELP FROM CHRYSLER, THE CASEWORKER SAID SHE COULD HELP ME AND THEN I WAS DENIED. THE SLIDER SUNROOF IS A HAZARD. I TRIED MULTIPLE THINGS TO HAVE IT REPAIRED BUT THERE WAS NO REPAIR ONLY TO REPLACE THE WHOLE THING. I HAD IT STRAPPED DOWN, PLASTIC AND TAPED UNTIL I COULD GET IT FIXED AS WITH NO TOP SOME WATER DAMAGE OCCURRED AND FOR A NEWER VEHICLE IT LOOKED TERRIBLE. WHILE THAT WORKED FOR AWHILE THE TOP AGAIN FLEW OFF TOTALLY JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO. I TURNED IT IN TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY AS I DID NOTHING TO THE TOP FOR IT TO MALFUNCTION AS IT DID. I AM GETTING IT REPAIRED NOW WITH SO FAR JUST PAYING MY DEDUCTIBLE BUT AM VERY WORRIED IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN. IT WAS A POOR THOUGHT OUT IDEA AS THE TOP IS JUST CANVAS WITH A FEW VERY SMALL, THIN METAL RODS THAT SNAPPED APART WHEN IT FLEW BACKWARDS. I BELIEVE CHRYSLER SHOULD RECALL ALL THE SLIDER SUNROOFS AND IMPLEMENT ANOTHER IDEA FOR THESE. ALSO AFTER SEEING WHAT THEY ARE MADE OF AND HOW THESE SUNROOFS ARE PUT TOGETHER I DON'T BELIEVE THEY WOULD PROTECT VERY WELL IF YOU DID HAPPEN TO FLIP THE VEHICLE. *TR
WHILE FILLING UP MY 2008 JEEP LIBERTY THE GAS PUMP SHUTS OFF AUTOMATICALLY AS IT SHOULD HAVE BUT, A LARGE AMOUNT OF GAS SPILLS OUT OF THE GAS TANK FILL TUBE ALL OVER THE GROUND, VEHICLE, AND ON THE PERSON PUMPING THE GAS WHEN HOLDING THE NOZZLE GRIP MANUALLY. THIS OCCURS EVERY TIME I FILL UP AND OCCURS EVEN WHEN MANUALLY HOLDING THE FUEL PUMP NOZZLE. I FILED A COMPLAINT THROUGH MYCARSTATS.COM BUT NOTICED THAT THE REPORTS ON THIS ISSUE HAVE STARTED TO INCREASES QUITE A BIT SINCE MY REPORT A FEW MONTHS AGO. THE COMPLAINTS ARE SPREAD THROUGHOUT MANY COMPLAINT FORUMS ON THE INTERNET. THIS SEEMS TO BE A HUGE PROBLEM ACROSS THE BOARD AND IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE SINCE IT IS DEALING WITH A HIGHLY COMBUSTIBLE SUBSTANCE. AFTER FUELING THE VEHICLE, A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF FUEL SPLASHES BACK OUT ALL OVER MY HAND, THE VEHICLE, AND THE GROUND. THIS IS NOT DUE TO OVER FILLING, EVEN IF I TRY TO STOP IT EARLY, FUEL STILL SPLASHES BACK OUT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY CHRYSLER-JEEP. *TR
EVERY TIME I GO TO FILL MY TANK WITH GAS THERE IS A SPILL OVER. I HAVE BEEN TO MULTIPLE DIFFERENT FILLING STATIONS AND GET THE SAME RESULT EVERY TIME. GASOLINE ALWAYS RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR AS THE TANK REACHES FUEL CAPACITY. GASOLINE SPILLS OUT OF THE TANK, DOWN THE SIDE OF THE JEEP, ON TO THE GROUND, AND EVEN GETS ON MY HANDS, CLOTHES, AND SHOES. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! I HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH AN ISSUE WITH SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS FUELING A VEHICLE. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR LESS THAN 2 MONTHS. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED FROM CARMAX. I PLAN ON CONTACTING THEM REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE READ OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL AS MY JEEP. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT THAT WARRANTS A TOTAL RECALL ON ALL 2008 JEEP LIBERTY MODELS. I DON'T LIKE HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT INGESTING GASOLINE WHEN I EAT BECAUSE MY HANDS WERE COVERED IN GASOLINE. I DON'T LIKE BREATHING THE NOXIOUS FUMES WHILE I'M INSIDE MY CAR BECAUSE FUEL FROM A DEFECTIVE FUEL TANK HAS SPILLED ON TO MY CLOTHES AND SHOES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE ALUMINUM TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR WITH ONE THAT WAS MADE OF RUBBER. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE FRONT AND REAR DRIVER SIDE AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS WERE ALSO CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,343. EVERY TIME I FILL THE GAS TANK, FUEL GUSHES OUT OF THE FILLER NECK ONTO THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ONTO THE GROUND. MOST TIMES, THE AUTOMATIC FUEL SHUTOFF A THE GAS PUMP .... AT VARIOUS STATIONS ... DOES NOT STOP THE FLOW. AT OTHER TIMES, FUEL GUSHES OUT EVEN IF THE PUMP SHUTS OFF. I HAVE TRIED SLOWING THE RATE FUEL GOES INTO THE TANK. SOMETIMES THIS WORKS. OTHER TIMES, IT DOESN'T. THE ONLY WAY TO AVOID THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION IS TO TRY TO CALCULATE HOW MUCH FUEL IT WILL TAKE TO FILL THE VEHICLE AND THEN STOP THE FLOW MYSELF A COUPLE OF GALLONS EARLY. THERE IS A JEEP TSB OUT ON THIS PROBLEM. AND THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS. THE FUEL SPILLAGE ISSUE IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM. *TR
AFTER FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF GAS SPITS BACK OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE. THIS IS NOT FROM TOPPING OFF AS IT HAPPENS WHEN THE PUMP HANDLE AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF. ALSO HAS HAPPENED AT MULTIPLE GAS STATIONS. VERY HAZARDOUS AND DANGEROUS. *TR
I BOUGHT MY JEEP IN JUNE WITH JUST OVER 36000 MILES. IT WAS PREVIOUSLY A RENTAL VEHICLE. EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL ABOUT SEPTEMBER WHEN I FILLED GAS AND THE PUMP CLICKED OFF AND GAS CAME OUT ALL OVER AT ABOUT 42,000 MILES. AFTER A SINGLE INCIDENT THE JEEP LIBERTY WAS TAKEN IN AND HAD THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH REPLACED. THE FOLLOWING WEEK THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN, GOING ON AND OFF FOR 10-15 MINUTES. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT IT WAS THE TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 65 MPH WHEN THE FRONT END STARTED TO SHAKE ABNORMALLY. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES AND SPORADICALLY, WOULD FAIL TO START. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER REPLACED THE ELECTRICAL WIRING HARNESS. THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE STALLING OR SHAKING FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000. *JS
GAS TANK OVERFLOWS AFTER IT IS FILLED. JEEP SERVICE TOLD ME IT IS CAUSED BY A CUT-OFF VALVE DEFECT NO LONGER COVERED BY WARRANTY AND THAT THE REPAIR COSTS $750.00 AND INVOLVES REPLACING THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK. I SEE FROM THE INTERNET THAT THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON TO THIS VEHICLE. HAVE YOU PREVIOUSLY BEEN MADE AWARE OF IT AND IS IT THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL? IT IS OBVIOUSLY A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THE GAS LITERALLY SPEWS OUT OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
ROUGHLY TWO YEARS AGO WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY I NOTICED PART OF MY SKY SLIDER MOON ROOF STARTED TO HAVE GAPS OF DAYLIGHT IN BETWEEN IT, I THEN NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PART OF MY SKY SLIDER STARTED TO FLIP BACKWARD. WHEN I NOTICED PART OF MY SKY SLIDER WAS FLIPPING BACKWARD I PROCEEDED TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY, KNOWING IF IT RANDOMLY STARTED TO FLIP BACKWARD IT COULD CATCH WIND AND RIP OFF COMPLETELY HITTING THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT, THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT IT WOULD BE AROUND $2500-$3000 TO FIX. I ENDED UP TAKING IT TO A DIFFERENT AUTO SHOP TO HAVE IT FIXED AT A MUCH MORE REASONABLE PRICE. NOW, THE SECOND TIME HAPPENED JUST A FEW DAYS AGO, I WAS ONCE AGAIN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, (PLEASE NOTE, I HAVE NOT USED THIS SKY SLIDER SINCE HAVING IT REPAIRED TWO YEARS AGO IN FEAR THAT IT WOULD BREAK AGAIN) AND WHILE MY ROOF WAS CLOSED I ONCE AGAIN NOTICED THAT I COULD SEE DAY LIGHT BETWEEN MY CAR AND MY SKY SLIDER. PULLING OFF THE HIGHWAY I GET OUT AND CHECK, ONLY TO NOTICE THAT THE TWO BACK ENDS OF THIS ROOF HAD BEEN COMPLETELY BROKE OFF THE TRACK AND HAD BEGAN TO FLAP IN THE WIND WHILE DRIVING. NOW WITH FEAR OF IT RIPPING OFF COMPLETELY AND HITTING THE CAR BEHIND ME I AM STRANDED. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO DEALERSHIPS SINCE, TO LEARN THAT CHRYSLER HAS DISCONTINUED MAKING THIS FEATURE, KNOWING THE PROBLEMS IT HAS, HOWEVER BOTH DEALERSHIPS TOLD ME THE SAME THING, THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND ONCE AGAIN I WOULD NEED TO PUT $2500-$3000 INTO FIXING IT, AGAIN! I'M CONCERNED TO RE FIX THIS VEHICLE AND ONCE AGAIN BE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY ROOF STARTS TO RIP OFF, CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD FOR ANYONE THAT MIGHT BE ON THE HIGHWAY AT THE TIME. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PANORAMA SUNROOF FELL DOWN WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT A CABLE WAS BROKEN AND AS A RESULT THE SUNROOF NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE AND REFERRED HER TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
