THE SKYSLIDER MALFUNCTIONED, DOES NOT OPEN EVENLY, WILL NOT CLOSE CORRECTLY. *JS
EVERY TIME I FILL UP WITH GAS, THE GAS SPEWS FROM THE FILLER NECK WHEN THE TANK IS FULL. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER THE NOZZLE SHUTS OFF AUTOMATICALLY OR IF I SHUT IT OFF MANUALLY TO TRY TO PREVENT IT FROM SPEWING OUT. THIS HAPPENS NO MATTER WHICH GAS STATION I FILL UP AT, WHETHER IT'S NEAR HOME OR OUT OF TOWN. I HAVE DRIVEN MANY, MANY MAKES OF AUTOMOBILES SINCE 1956 (THAT'S 56 YEARS) AND THIS IS THE FIRST VEHICLE THAT EVER GAVE ME THIS PROBLEM.
AFTER JUST PURCHASING VEHICLE FROM USED DEALERSHIP (2ND OWNER), FIRST TIME FILLING UP RESULTED IN OVERFLOW OF GAS. TRIED MULTIPLE GAS STATIONS, SPEEDS, AMOUNTS AND RESULTED IN SAME OVERFLOW. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND THEY REFUSED TO CHECK OUT THE CAR UNLESS I PAID NON-REFUNDABLE 200 INSPECTION FEE BEFORE DIAGNOSIS (KEEP IN MIND I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE)! CALLED MANUFACTURER AND THEY CLAIMED NOT A KNOWN ISSUE ALTHOUGH CURRENT RECALL STATES OTHERWISE. 2008 JEEP LIBERTY SHOULD BE ADDED TO THAT RECALL EFFORT! *JS
POWER WINDOWS FAIL TO OPEN, OR FAIL TO CLOSE IF EVER OPENED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT TPMS VALVES WERE FRACTURED FROM THE FRONT AND REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRES, CAUSING THE TIRES TO ABNORMALLY LOSE PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT HE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE VALVES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 26,000.
EVERY TIME I FILL UP MY JEEP THE PUMP WILL SHUT OFF WHEN THE TANK IS FULL AND I REMOVE THE PUMP AND GAS WILL BUBBLE OUT OF THE TANK AND RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. *KB
2008 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED 4X4, "BURPS" GASOLINE OUT OF THE GAS TANK EVERY TIME I FILL UP WITH GAS. I HAVE FILLED UP AT MULTIPLE GAS STATIONS AND EVERY TIME THE PUMP STOPS FILLING WHEN FULL, BUT THE JEEP SPITS OUT GAS AFTER THE PUMP STOPS. I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM, SINCE I SEE THIS AS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THE WHILE REFUELING THE VEHICLE, FUEL SPILLED FROM THE PUMP AND ONTO THE GROUND. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSED THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE FUEL TANK AND ADVISED THAT IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED (CASE NUMBER 21321679) AND ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD COVER FIFTY PERCENT OF THE COST FOR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,355 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,000.
JUST BOUGHT A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. EVERYTIME I FILL THE GAS TANK UP IT SPITS GAS OUT ALL OVER THE PLACE. BOTH AUTOMATIC AND MANUAL OPERATION (FILL UP), IT DOES NOT MATTER. WHY??? *TR
WHEN FILLING WITH GAS, WHEN THE PUMP SHUTS OFF, GAS SPITS BACK OUT THE FILLER NECK, RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF OUR VEHICLE AND MAKES A PUDDLE ON THE GROUND.
WE PURCHASED A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY USED FROM A TOLEDO DEALERSHIP IN APRIL OF 2011. THE FUEL AUTO SHUT-OFF DOES NOT WORK AT ALL, AND EVERY TIME WE TOP OFF THE TANK FUEL ENDS UP "BURPING" ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, ONTO THE GROUND, AND IN SOME CASES ONTO THE PERSON FUELING THE VEHICLE. EVEN THE SALESPERSON COMPLAINED THAT SHE GOT FUEL ON HER WHEN WE ASKED HER TO TOP IT OFF BEFORE WE DROVE IT OFF THE LOT. THIS SEEMS TO BE THE EXACT SAME ISSUE THAT WE HAD WITH OUR 2007 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED. HOWEVER, THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL FOR THAT AND A NEW FUEL TANK AND NECK HAD TO BE INSTALLED THAT FIXED THE PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL ON THE 2008 JEEP LIBERTY TO FIX WHAT SEEMS TO BE AN IDENTICAL PROBLEM THAT WAS RECALLED AND REMEDIATED. EVERY TIME I'VE CONTACTED THE ORIGINAL AND LOCAL DEALERSHIPS REGARDING THE ISSUE I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THE SUNROOF WOULD NOT OPEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THEY COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THEY WOULD CONTACT HIM IF THEY WERE GOING TO ASSUME THE REPAIR COST OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I HAVE HAD A DING FOR NO REASON THAT OCCURS ALL THE TIME SOMETIMES ONCE A DAY SOME TIMES EVERY FEW MINS. THEN WHILE TOWING A TRAILER, WHICH IS ONLY 6 X 12 AND WELL UNDER MAX TOW LIMITS ESP NOT WORKING LIGHT WILL COME ON AND GO OFF AT VERY ANNOYING INTERVALS, ONCE THIS STARTS 4X4 LIGHT COMES ON, THEN SERVICE 4WHEEL DRIVE COMES ON. HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE IN NUMEROUS TIMES AND BEEN CHARGED CLOSE TO 1000. DOLLARS AND NO FIX. THEY KEEP TELLING ME IT'S A SENSOR BUT THEY REPLACE AND NO GOOD. THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO BE DRIVING PERFECTLY WELL BUT ON MY LAST TRIP THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE WOULDN'T DRIVE RIGHT. I HAVE THE TRANS COOLER ON AND FLUID LEVELS WHERE GOOD AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES LIGHT WENT OUT AND I DROVE 400 MORE MILES NO PROBLEM...HELP! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUNROOF DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE AND ALLOWED WATER TO LEAK IN DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,920 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE MALFUNCTIONED. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON AN INCLINE WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SECURE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REFUELING THE VEHICLE WITH GASOLINE, THE FUEL SPILLED BACK OUT ONTO THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THEY WOULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE IF THE CONTACT WOULD PAY A $200 DEDUCTIBLE FEE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACT WHO STATED THEY WOULD REPLACE THE FUEL TANK, BUT AT THE CONTACTS EXPENSE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000. WHILE FILLING 2008 JEEP LIBERTY, PAST 6 TIMES, THE GAS TENDS TO SEEP OUT. MILEAGE WHEN STARTED ~43K MILES. EVEN WHEN THE RUBBER COVER OVER THE GAS NOZZLE FITS SNUG WITH THE THROAT OF THE GAS INLET, GAS HAS LEAKED. *TR
DURING FUELING AT THE END OF THE PROCESS THE FUEL PUMP WILL "CLICK" OFF. AFTER THE CLICK, A FAIR AMOUNT OF FUEL SPILLS FROM THE FUEL TANK DOWN THE SIDE OF MY VEHICLE AND THE GROUND. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION TO THE ENVIRONMENT AND A WASTE OF FUEL. *KB
I HAVE A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY THAT WILL NOT SHUT OFF THE GAS VALVE WHEN I AM PUMPING GAS. I PREVIOUSLY HAD A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE GAS DRIPS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR, TIRE AND EVENTUALLY ON THE PERSON PUMPING GAS CREATING A VERY LARGE PUDDLE OF GAS THAT REQUIRES CLEANUP FROM THE GAS ATTENDANT. AT STARTUP, FIRST NOTICED WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE ON AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. ALL DASH LIGHTS, GAUGES, ETC WERE NOT OPERATING. VEHICLE COULD NOT BE TAKEN OUT OF PARK POSITION. (VEHICLE WAS USED THE NIGHT PRIOR IN A LIGHT RAIN) TURNED VEHICLE ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES TO NO AVAIL. AT DEALERSHIP WAS TOLD THE CLUSTER WAS BAD..BUT THERE ARE SO MANY HAVING THIS PROBLEM THAT THE PART IS BACKLOGGED BY 4 MONTHS OR MORE. COMPUTER WAS REFLASHED, SO EVERYTHING IS WORKING EXCEPT THE ODOMETER. CANNOT PASS INSPECTION WITHOUT GETTING A NEW CLUSTER SINCE THAT IS THE ONLY MEANS TO SHOW THE ODOMETER..YET ITS BACKLOGGED 4 MONTHS. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE IF ITS A VITAL TRUCK PART? *TR
I JUST BOUGHT A USED 2008 JEEP LIBERTY WITH 32,000 MILES. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN UNTIL AFTER A FEW FILL UPS, BUT NOW GAS SPEWS OUT AFTER FILLING THE TANK. I GETS ALL OVER THE CAR, THE GROUND AND MY SHOES. *TR
THE GAS TANK OVERFLOWS EVERY TIME FUEL IS PUMPED INTO THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL GAS STATIONS AND REGARDLESS OF HOW SLOWLY THE TANK IS FILLED. THE PROBLEM STARTED SEEMINGLY OUT OF THE BLUE WITH NO ACCIDENTS OR DAMAGE TO THE CAR PRIOR. GAS SPRAYS OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE AS SOON AS THE PUMP IS REMOVED, GETTING THE PERSON WET IF THEY DO NOT KNOW TO STAND ASIDE. GAS ALSO RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS BOTH A SAFETY ISSUE AND AN ENVIRONMENTAL / EMISSIONS ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY JEEP. THE INTERIOR SMELLS OF GAS FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS AFTER EACH OVERFLOW INCIDENT. WE TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY SAID THE ENTIRE GAS TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED TO FIX THE VALVE THAT HAS FAILED. WE ARE OUT OF WARRANTY AND FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL AND/OR EMISSIONS WARRANTY COVERED ITEM. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE FOR SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEM I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT IT IS ENDEMIC TO MANY JEEP LIBERTY AND JEEP WRANGLER VEHICLES MADE OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS. JEEP HAS ONLY OFFERED TO FIX THE PROBLEM FOR WRANGLERS FROM 2007-08. *TR
PUTTING GASOLINE INTO MY 2008 JEEP LIBERTY, THE GAS PUMP SHUTS OFF AS EXPECTED HOWEVER GASOLINE SPEWS OUT OF THE JEEP'S FILLING SYSTEM. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON VARIOUS INTERNET FORUMS STATING THE SAME ISSUES, THIS TELLS ME THAT THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM THAT JEEP HAS NOT ADDRESSED. *TR
FUEL SPURTS AND SPILLS OUT AFTER EACH FILL-UP AFTER GAS NOZZLE SHUTS OFF. JEEP 2008 LIBERTY WITH 44,000 MILES. *TR
WHILE FILLING UP MY 2008 JEEP LIBERTY THE GAS PUMP SHUT OFF AUTOMATICALLY AS IT SHOULD HAVE, BUT A LARGE AMOUNT OF GAS SPIT OUT OF THE GAS TANK FILL TUBE ALL OVER THE GROUND AND VEHICLE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN A ROW THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH THIS VEHICLE. IT SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE TANK VENTING. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 19,254 MILES ON IT. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE JEEP UP WITH GAS, NO MATTER IF THE PUMP HANDLE IS LOCKED OR I'M MANUALLY PUMPING, AT MULTIPLE GAS STATIONS I HAVE EXPERIENCED OVERFLOW. IT RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR AND ALL OVER THE GROUND. IT HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AT DIFFERENT STATIONS. IT SEEMS DANGEROUS, BECAUSE THIS COULD BE A FIRE HAZARD, AND IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON LINE, BUT WHEN I CHECKED WITH THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE NOT COME ACROSS THIS PROBLEM. . I TRY TO PUMP AS SLOW AS POSSIBLE WHEN I KNOW IT IS NEAR FULL, BUT STILL GET GAS COMING OUT EVERY TIME THAT I LET IT GO UNTIL THE PUMP STOPS. I AM NOT FILLING PAST THE FIRST PUMP SHUT OFF. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE FIXING. *TR
WE HAVE AN OVERFLOWING GAS TANK. WHEN PUMP CLICKS THAT THE TANK IS FULL GAS COMES POURING OUT ONTO MYSELF AND THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE ONTO THE GROUND. *TR

WHEN MAKING A TURN ONTO AN UNLEVEL PAVED ROAD (SUCH AS TURNING ONTO A ROAD WHEN TRAVELING UP OR DOWN A SMALL HILL, OR A ROAD WITH AN UNEVEN SURFACE), MY CAR CONSISTENTLY LOSES TRACTION AND DECELERATES. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM/TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHES. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN DRIVING ON WET ROADS, AND WHEN DRIVING ON LIGHTLY SANDY SURFACES (SUCH AS THE ROADS ALONG OUR BEACH NEARBY). WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE CAR OFTEN SLOWS TO AN UNSAFE SPEED AND IS DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY WHEN MAKING A TURN TO CROSS A ROAD WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I PURCHASED THIS CAR 2 YEARS AGO FOR MYSELF, WITH THE INTENTION OF GIVING IT TO MY DAUGHTER WHEN SHE REACHED DRIVING AGE THIS YEAR. WITH THIS DEFECT, I DO NOT TRUST THIS VEHICLE AS SAFE FOR HER TO DRIVE UNLESS THIS PROBLEM GETS RESOLVED. *TR
EVERY TIME I FUEL MY 2008 JEEP LIBERTY THE FUEL NOZZLE DOES NOT SHUT OFF PROPERLY WHEN FULL, CAUSING FUEL TO SPEW OUT ONTO THE CAR, MY HANDS, MY CLOTHING AND THE CONCRETE BENEATH THE CAR AT THE GAS STATION. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY ON 3/9/2010 AND THEY REPLACED THE FILLER TUBE. THE REPAIR DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN LIVING WITH THIS ISSUE FOR A YEAR NOW. TODAY, WHILE AT THE GAS STATION, THE PERSON IN THE ISLE NEXT TO ME, DRIVING A 2008, 4-DOOR JEEP WRANGLER, HAD THE SAME ISSUE. I ASKED HER ABOUT IT AND SHE SAID THE PROBLEM HAD JUST BEGUN FOR HER IN THE PAST MONTH, BUT IT NOW HAPPENS TO HER EVERY FUEL UP. I DECIDED I WOULD LOOK INTO IT FURTHER. AFTER SEEING THE MULTIPLE ONLINE POSTS, I DECIDED TO MAKE A COMPLAINT, AS THIS IS OBVIOIUSLY A DEFECT WITH JEEP VEHICLES. *TR
FUEL SPILL DURING REFUELING. WHILE REFUELING THE CAR, WHEN THE TANK WAS ALMOST FULL, FUEL STARTED TO SPILL RESULTING IN SPRAYING THE CAR AND THE GROUND WITHIN 3 FEET RADIUS WITH GAS. THIS CREATES A RISK OF FIRE AND HEALTH HAZARDS BY SPILLING GAS ONTO SKIN. CHRYSLER/JEEP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE A TSB FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT REFUSE TO MAKE A RECALL. THEY ARE ALSO AWARE OF THE PROBLEM ON THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER 3 TIMES FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM BUT SO FAR THEY HAVE FAILED TO FIX THE ISSUE. *TR
2008 JEEP LIBERTY. CONSUMER WRITES REGARDING ELECTRICAL/ COMPUTER PROBLEMS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED FROM THE BEGINNING HE HAD INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE ALARM WOULD GO OFF, THE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND GO OFF, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND WASHERS WOULD NOT ACTIVATE. THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL DAYS, BUT WERE UNABLE TO ISOLATE THE PROBLEM. *JB
WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK ON A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY, FUEL WILL OVERFLOW OUT OF THE TANK FILLER TUBE ON TO THE VEHICLE AND GROUND AFTER THE FUEL PUMP HAS SHUT OFF. FUEL OVERFLOWS OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE AFTER THE FUEL PUMP IS SHUT OFF, EVEN WHEN FILLING IT AT A LOW FLOW RATE. IT STARTED OCCURRING WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 55,000 MILES. *TR
WHEN MY WIFE FILLS HERE 2008 JEEP LIBERTY THE FUEL PUMP DOESN'T SHUT OFF AND FULL SHOTS OUT OF THE FILLER. THIS CAME ON SUDDENLY HAD IT LOOKED AT ONCE (NON-JEEP DEALER) AND FOUND NOTHING. THIS EVEN HAPPENS WHEN THE PUMP IS SET TO THE LOWEST SPEED. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND WASTEFUL! *TR

2008 JEEP LIBERTY. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 3 YEARS AND 5 MONTHS. IT HAS 43,000 MILES. FOUR MONTHS AGO THE ISSUE BEGAN WHILE FILLING THE CAR WITH GAS. THE GAS PUMP DOES NOT TURN OFF WHEN THE TANK IS FULL CAUSING AN OVERFLOW OF GASOLINE ONTO THE CAR AND GROUND. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME WE REFUEL. SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE REFUELED JUST TO ENSURE IT WAS NOT USER ERROR AND THE SAME THING HAPPENS. WE HAVE ALSO USED MANY DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEIR RESPONSE IS THAT AN ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN FOUND AND A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED. THE CONSUMER STATED CHRYSLER AGREED TO PAY FOR THE FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT AND THEREFORE REQUEST TO DELETE THIS COMPLAINT. UPDATED 06/07/11 *TR
WE JUST BOUGHT A 2008 JEEP LIBERTY WITH 25000 MILES ON IT AND EVERYTIME WE FILL UP IT SPEWS GAS. I HAVE TRIED PUTTING THE GAS NOZZLE IN FARTHER, OUT HALF WAY, FILLING IT UP SLOWLY BUT STILL EVERYTIME THE NOZZLE CLICKS ABOUT A SECOND OR TWO LATER GAS SPEWS FROM THE TANK. *TR

THE PROBLEM OCCURS ON A REPLACEMENT GAS TANK. IT DID NOT HAPPEN WITH THE ORIGINAL TANK. WHEN THE TANK IS FILLED, THE CLICK OF THE PUMP SHUTTING OFF CAN BE HEARD, YET GASOLINE SPEWS OUT OF THE FILLER PIPE, DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR, AND ONTO THE GROUND. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED A FEW TIMES WHILE THE REPLACEMENT TANK WAS UNDER WARRANTY. I BLAMED THE GAS STATIONS UNTIL I WAS INFORMED BY ONE OF THE ATTENDANTS CLEANING UP THE TOXIC SPILL THAT IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH JEEPS. WHEN I TALKED TO MY LOCAL JEEP SERVICE ON THE PHONE, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE TANK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE COST OF REPLACING THE TANK WOULD BE OVER $800 SINCE THE CURRENT TANK WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE IN THE LAST YEAR, AND I CAN NO LONGER FILL THE TANK COMPLETELY WITHOUT THE GAS SPEWING ONTO THE GROUND. SLOWING THE RATE OF FILLING DOES NOT PREVENT THE PROBLEM. REPEATED STOPPING AND STARTING THE FILLING PROCESS DOES NOT PREVENT THE PROBLEM. THE ONLY THING THAT CAN BE DONE TO AVOID THE PROBLEM IS NOT FILLING THE TANK ALL OF THE WAY. JEEP LIBERTY 2008 GAS GUSHING OUT EVERY TIME AFTER FILLING TANK - ACCORDING TO DEALER, ROLL-OVER VALVE IS FAULTY INSIDE GAS TANK SO ENTIRE GAS TANK MUST BE REPLACED (ABOUT $800+). THIS VALVE ENSURES THAT GAS WILL NOT LEAK INTO VEHICLE IN THE EVENT OF A ROLL-OVER ACCIDENT; ALSO ENSURES GAS WON'T SHOOT OUT OF THE GAS TANK AFTER FILLING WITH FUEL. GAS ERUPTS OUT OF TANK AND BACK ONTO THE FACE, BODY AND FEET OF THE CONSUMER AS WELL AS ALL DOWN THE SIDE OF VEHICLE AND ONTO THE GROUND NEAR GAS PUMPS. VERY UNSAFE HAZARD. NOT A MAINTENANCE PROBLEM BUT RATHER A DEFECTIVE PART INSIDE THE GAS TANK. SHOULD NOT BE THE CONSUMER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE. VEHICLE IS ONLY 2 1/2 YEARS OLD WITH 40,000 MILES LOGGED. THIS OCCURS EACH AND EVERY TIME THE TANK IS FILLED WHETHER OR NOT IT IS ON AUTO-FILL OR MANUALLY REGULATED. TRICKY WORK TO MANUALLY STOP GAS FLOW BEFORE IT GUSHES OUT. LODGED COMPLAINT WITH JEEP OF AMERICA BUT WAS TOLD ONLY POSSIBLE RECOURSE WAS TO PAY FOR REPAIR MYSELF; SUBMIT CLAIM TO THEM AFTER THE FACT, AND THEY MAY OR MAY NOT DECIDE TO ASSIST ME WITH COSTS (THEY WON'T CALL IT REIMBURSEMENT) FOR SOME OR ALL OF MY EXPENSES. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2009 AS THE SECOND OWNER WITH 18,000 MILES ON IT. ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE GAS TANK IT OVERFLOWS AND SPRAYS GAS ALL OVER THE PLACE. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS THE STATION BUT AFTER USING MULTIPLE STATIONS I NOW HAVE TO ESTIMATE HOW MUCH GAS IS LEFT IN THE TANK AND THEN TRY AND FILL IT UP. CONSUMER STATES SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED EACH TIME HE FILLED THE GAS TANK, GASOLINE SPILLED OUT OF THE FILL OPENING MOMENTS AFTER THE NOZZLE SHUT OFF WAS TRIGGERED. THE SPILL OCCURRED IN A BOILING TYPE MANNER AND THE VOLUME OF THE SPILL WAS SIGNIFICANT. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED, THROUGHOUT THE THREE YEARS HE HAS OWNED THE VEHICLE, HE HAD A PROBLEM WITH RAIN GETTING INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE POINT OF ENTRY APPEARED TO BE AT THE TOP OF THE REAR LIFT GATE. THE WATER VOLUME WAS SIGNIFICANT AND NOT ONLY SOAKED THE REAR BED, BUT IT ALSO RAN TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND SOAKED THE FRONT PASSENGER CARPET. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED TWICE, WITH THE REPORT THAT SOME DRAINS PORTS WERE CLOGGED. THE LAST REPAIR INVOLVED SOME ADDITIONAL CAULKING. *JB
