2007 JEEP PATRIOT STALLS AFTER EVERY FUEL FLL UP . ONLY STALLS WHEN FUEL IS FILLED. STARTS BACK UP WITH NO PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND THE FRONT END STARTED TO SHAKE ALL OVER THE ROAD. I TOOK IT TO MY REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY LOWER BALL JOINTS NEED TO BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY DUE TO BEING EXCESSIVELY WORN OUT AND IN A DANGERS CONDITION. *TR
PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN MAY OF 2012. VEHICLE MAKES LARGE RATTLING RACKET WHEN GOING OVER ANY TYPE OF DIRT ROAD/BRICK ROAD AND A CLUNK WHEN GOING OVER LARGE BUMPS (SPEED BUMPS). HAVE TAKEN TO MECHANIC SEVERAL TIMES - TURNS OUT THE LARGE CLUNK WAS THE BALL JOINTS...THEY WERE COMPLETELY WORN AT 48000 MILES WHICH IN TURN CHANGED THE ALIGNMENT OF MY WHEELS - AS WELL AS AFTER DRIVING IT A MERE 10000 MILES MADE BOTH FRONT TIRES COMPLETELY BALD. *TR
WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2012 I WAS ASSURED THAT THE PULL AND SOUND FROM THE FRONT END WAS JUST A NEEDED ALIGNMENT. 2 MONTHS LATER IT WAS CLUNKING AND POPPING. AFTER TAKING IT TO A MECHANIC, THEY STATED THAT BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS INCLUDING BALL JOINTS, AND THE TIE ROD WERE TERRIBLY WORN. THE MECHANIC WAS NOT SURPRISED BECAUSE OF THE MAKE AND MODEL OF THE JEEP PATRIOT. SAID IT IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE FOR THESE TO GO OUT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. THIS JEEP IS SUPPOSED TO BE "TRAIL RATED" WITH THE OFF ROAD PACKAGE, BUT I DON'T EVEN FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT ON CITY ROADS AND HAVEN'T SINCE I BOUGHT IT. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THESE PART BY PART DUE TO THE FACT OF THE HIGH COST AND THAT THE VALUE STILL HOLDS UP ON JEEPS SO I MAKE MONTHLY FINANCE PAYMENTS ON A VEHICLE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT I AM STUCK WITH THE 100% OF THESE REPAIR BILLS TO FIX WHAT SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM ON A JEEP. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN CHRYSLER JEEP AND WILL PROBABLY NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE AGAIN. :( *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT FWD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH SHE HEARD A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOWER DRIVER'S SIDE ARM WAS LOOSE AND AS A RESULT, THE ARM, TIRES AND WHEEL BARRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE LOUD NOISE SHE HEARD WAS DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONSUMER HAS SINCE TRADED THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 07/17/12. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN STOPPED AND SHUT OFF. UPON RESTART, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE TO BE TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 74,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THE BALL JOINTS FAILED AND THE FRONT WHEELS STARTED SHAKING DUE TO THE FAILURE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED ON A LIFT TO BE INSPECTED THE BALL JOINTS ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FELL OFF. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY ISSUE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,716.
I WAS TAKING OFF FROM A RED LIGHT AND THE JEEP SPUTTERED RIGHT AFTER I TOOK OFF BUT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AND DO NOT WANT TO MAKE ME INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
CAR IS STALLING WHEN STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, OR WAITING TO MAKE A TURN. IT SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND IF IT IS NOT GIVEN GAS IMMEDIATELY AFTER SHAKING BEGINS, ENGINE WILL CUT OUT. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT BECAUSE I HAVE TO TURN THE KEY AND RE-START THE CAR. THIS HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE DAY AT LEAST 5 TIMES A DAY. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP TWICE AND $900 LATER, THEY CAN NOT TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR. I HAVE NOT NOTICED ANY CHANGE AT ALL AFTER HAVING THE CAR SERVICED. *TR
BOUGHT MY 2007 JEEP PATRIOT IN AUGUST OF '11. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC ON DECEMBER 6TH FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. HE INFORMED ME THAT THE BALL JOINTS AND CONTROL ARMS WOULD NEED REPLACING IMMEDIATELY TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF MY VEHICLE. WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE WITH 29,000 MILES ON IT, IT IS NOW AT 34,000 AND TWO MONTHS AFTER THE LIMITED WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. *TR
I BOUGHT MY 2007 JEEP PATRIOT BRAND NEW AND IT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS EVER SINCE. TODAY IS THE FINAL STRAW AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO CHRYSLER. EVERYTIME I PRESS THE BRAKES TO STOP, MY ENGINE STALLS OUT. THIS PROBLEMS FREQUENCY SEEMS TO HAVE INCREASED SINCE IT IS RAINING. MY PATRIOT HAS STALLED PREVIOUSLY THROUGHOUT THE YEARS BUT THEY WERE ISOLATED INCIDENCES OR SO I THOUGHT. AFTER READING JEEP FORUMS ONLINE, I SEE THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WHICH JEEP IS NOT ADDRESSING. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD AS I LIVE IN A HIGHLY CONGESTED AREA. STALLING ON THE EXPRESSWAY OR IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION CAN LEAD TO ACCIDENTS AND I AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY. THIS ISN'T THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR. APPARENTLY ITS NOT UNCOMMON TO HAVE TO REPLACE BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS CONTAINING THE BALL JOINTS AT 30K MILES. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES DUE TO IRREGULAR WEAR AND TEAR FROM DEFECTIVE PARTS. EVEN AFTER AN ALIGNMENT, AT HIGH SPEEDS THE CAR VIBRATES HARSHLY. THE TRANSMISSION STRUGGLES WHEN ACCELERATING. I PERFORM REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON MY CAR AND SHOULD NOT BE EXPERIENCING THESE ISSUES. THE DEALERSHIPS WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY DAIMLER CHRYSLER. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR ANY MANUFACTURED CAR. I CANNOT BELIEVE JEEP GETS AWAY WITH ALL THESE SAFETY HAZARDS AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. *TR
THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER IN MY VEHICLE HAS GONE BAD. THE PART HAS BEEN ORDERED BUT IT IS ON BACK ORDER ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. IT WILL TAKE A WEEK FOR THE PART TO BE MADE AND RECEIVED TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR. ACCORDING TO MY REPAIR TECHNICIAN, WHEN TRYING TO LOCATE THIS PART, IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM IN JEEPS ACROSS THE NATION. I HAVE CONTACTED JEEP, AND THEY ARE UNWILLING TO LOOK INTO OR ASSIST IN THE SITUATION. MY ENTIRE CLUTCH SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE COST, AT THIS POINT, IS OUTRAGEOUS = $1315.92. LUCKILY, MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN IT NO LONGER WOULD CHANGE GEARS, BUT I HAVE CHILDREN, AND IF THE GEARS HAD LOCKED UP WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION, WE WOULD ALL BE DEAD! *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT 4X4. THE VEHICLE WAS WITH THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WHEN THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT CONTACT THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINTS WERE LOOSE ON BOTH THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS FAILED. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE BALL JOINTS AND FOUND THAT THEY WERE ABNORMALLY LOOSE. THE DEALER THEN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS COMMON FOR HIS MAKE AND MODEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. IT BEGAN TO RAIN SO MY GIRLFRIEND TURNED ON THE WIPERS ONLY TO FIND THAT SHE HAD NO WIPERS. THEY WILL TURN ON SOMETIMES, BUT ONLY ON THE HIGHEST SETTING, YET AT A LESS THAN MINIMAL SPEED. WE THOUGHT IT COULD BE A LOOSE CONNECTION OR SOMETHING SEEING AS OUR VEHICLE IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD, BUT WHEN WE WENT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP TO FIX IT THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT THE COMPUTER THAT THEY HOOKED IT UP TO SAID IT HAD NO PROBLEMS. WELL GUESS WHAT IT STILL DOES IT SO WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSE TO DO ABOUT IT NOW? *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BALL JOINTS AND CONTROL ARMS ON BOTH FRONT WHEELS WERE DEFECTIVE AND PERFORMED THE REPAIRS. THE DEALER DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,334 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,300. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I AM FROM CANADA AND OWN A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT 4X4. I ONLY USE MY VEHICLE FOR HIGHWAY DRIVING AND NEVER TAKE IT OFF ROAD. I ONLY DRIVE IT WITH CARE. RECENTLY, I BROUGHT MY JEEP TO A DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF A STRANGE NOISE. THROUGH A SERVICE, IT WAS DETERMINED MY LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE EXCESSIVELY WORN TO THE POINT OF BEING A SAFETY HAZARD. THEY NEEDED TO BE IMMEDIATELY REPLACED IN ADDITION TO THE CONTROL ARMS. THIS COST APPROXIMATELY $1000 CAD. IN READING OVER THE INTERNET, THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON MANUFACTURING PROBLEM WITH ISSUES ACROSS THE BOARD. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A RECALL. THERE IS NO WAY THE BALL JOINTS SHOULD BE NEEDING REPLACEMENT IN A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD WITH NORMAL DRIVING USE. HAD I NOT BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN FOR A SERVICE, THIS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED AND WOULD POSSIBLY HAVE LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. JEEP NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR
ON 08/12/2011 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING FROM CT TO MASS ON THE HIGHWAY TO PICK UP OUR 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AT HER MOTHERS, WHEN SUDDENLY THE JEEP STARTED TO SHAKE. ON 08/13/2011 BROUGHT CAR TO MECHANIC AND HE SAID BALL JOINTS HAD TO BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY, AND THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. HE SAID SHE WAS LUCKY THE WHEELS DIDN'T FALL OFF. 08/13/2011 CALLED DEALERSHIP, BRANHAVEN IN BRANFORD, CT AND FOUND A RECALL BUT IT'S VIN NUMBER SPECIFIC, AND DOES NOT MATCH OUR JEEP. DEALER SUGGESTED CALL CHRYSLER DIRECT FOR ASSISTANCE...CHRYSLER SAID THE CAR NEEDS TO GO TO DEALERSHIP TO BE DIAGNOSED. NOW WILL COST MORE MONEY THAT WE DON'T HAVE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A TYPICAL PROBLEM WITH 07 JEEP PATRIOTS, THE CAR IS 4 YEARS OLD WITH LESS THAN 60K MILES..THIS IS NOT AN OFF ROAD VEHICLE. THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY CHRYSLER IMMEDIATELY. FORTUNATELY NO ONE HAS BEEN HURT. *TR
BALL JOINTS NEEDED REPLACEMENT AT 70,000 MILES. *KB
JEEP BEGAN MAKING CLUNKING SOUND WHEN TURNING. INFORMED THAT LOWER CONTROL ARMS WITH BALL JOINTS IN THE FRONT NEED TO BE REPLACED. HAD THIS HAPPEN ON A PREVIOULY OWNED JEEP LIBERTY BUT THAT WAS REPAIRED VIA A RECALL. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE ON A SIMILAR VEHICLE. HAVE SEEN THAT THERE ARE MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE ON PATRIOTS WITH RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE. THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL AS THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE THEY PERFORMED A RECALL ON FOR A PREVIOUS MODEL. A FAILING BALL JOINT POSES A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK.
LOWER BALL JOINTS ARE PRE-MATURELY WORN AND LOOSE. *KB
JULY 2011: SUBMITTED MY VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC FOR A SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE BALL BEARING ASSEMBLY WAS SO STRUCTURALLY INEPT THAT THE FRONT WHEELS COULD BE DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. REPAIRS WERE MADE AS WAS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. NOV 2011: ABOUT 4,000 MILES LATER OUR JEEP WAS SCHEDULED ANOTHER OIL CHANGE, AND THE SAME MECHANIC NOTICED THAT SINCE OUR LAST SERVICE THE TIE RODS WERE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. MY MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THIS IS NOT TYPICAL OF A VEHICLE THAT HAS TOTAL 49,000 MILES AND COULD NOT HAVE PREDICTED SUCH ISSUES BETWEEN ROUTINE SERVICE APPOINTMENTS. *TR
I NOTICED A CLUNK IN MY 2007 JEEP PATRIOT, WHEN TURNING OR GOING OVER BUMPS. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER (GRAVA CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE) AND WAS TOLD THE LOWER CONTROL ARM/ BALL JOINTS ON BOTH SIDES HAVE FAILED, AND THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AFTER ONLY 21,112 MILES. DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE BALL JOINTS WHERE THERE IS NO GREASE FITTING THE BALL JOINTS FAILED AND CAUSED MASSIVE MISALIGNMENT. THIS ALSO CAUSE TIRES TO GO FLAT DUE TO UNEVEN WEAR AND RUINED THE FRONT SUSPENSION OF THE VEHICLE. *KB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE SUSPENSION WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 69,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, AN UNKNOWN NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SHOP FOR INSPECTION. AFTER INSPECTION, THEY NOTICED THAT THE TIE RODS WERE LOOSE, RESULTING IN THE BALL JOINTS ALSO BECOMING LOOSE. THE MECHANIC REPAIRED THE TIE RODS, BUT NOT THE BALL JOINTS. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000. 2007 JEEP PATRIOT, NEW TIE RODS AT 24,000 MILES, HAD TO CHANGE ALL OF THE DISC BRAKES DUE TO RUST AND CRACKING AT 48,000 MILES, TOLD BY OUR MECHANIC THAT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. AT OUR LAST VEHICLE INSPECTION ON 07-01-2011 WE WERE TOLD THAT IT NEEDS NEW BALL JOINTS SINCE THEY WERE CRACKING, THE CAR HAS LESS THAT 60,000 MILES. *TR
ENTIRE FRONT END OF OUR 2007 JEEP PATRIOT NEEDED REPLACED AT ONLY 57,000 MILES. IN ADDITION THIS CAUSED BOTH BRAND NEWFRONT TIRES TO WEAR AGGRESSIVELY AND NOW THEY NEED REPLACED. IT BEGAN WITH A CLUNKING AND POPPING IN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE 2 WEEKS AGO. THE ISSUE ONLY OCCURRED WHEN GOING OVER SPEED BUMPS AT LOW SPEEDS. THE SECOND WEEK IT HAPPENED AFTER BEING AT A STOP AND ACCELERATING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT JEEP PATRIOTS ARE KNOWN FOR BAD U JOINTS AND FRONT END ASSEMBLY. THEY ARE REPLACING THE BAD U-JOINTS WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART! THE DEALER SAID IT IS GOOD WE BROUGHT THIS IN BECAUSE A FRONT END FAILURE WAS POSSIBLE ANY TIME WHICH WOULD CAUSE COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT. I BOUGHT AN EXTENDED 3RD PARTY WARRANTY AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE WHICH WILL COVER THE REPAIRS ABOUT $1,200 WORTH OF WORK. I STILL HAVE TO BUY 2 NEW TIRES. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH JEEP PATRIOTS. MY CAR CUTS OFF / STALLS EVERY TIME I FILL MY TANK UP. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS TO MY FAMILY AS WELL AS OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BRIEFLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE BALL JOINTS, TIE ROD AND STEERING CONTROL ASSEMBLY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,300.
I HAVE A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT WITH JUST OVER 60,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS DRIVING WHEN I HEARD RUMBLING UNDER MY HOOD. I PULLED OVER TO FIND THAT MY ENGINE WAS KNOCKING REALLY LOUD. I PULLED THE DIPSTICK AFTER A FEW MINUTES TO MAKE SURE THERE WAS OIL IN THE CAR. YES, THERE WAS AN APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF OIL. I CHANGE MY OIL EVERY 3,000 MILES AND HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN EXCEPTIONAL CARE OF MY VEHICLE PER THE MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATION. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO INFORMS ME THAT THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AFTER 60,000 MILES THE ENGINE IS SHOT? HE CAN'T OFFER AN EXPLANATION OF HOW OR WHY THIS HAPPENED. I EVEN CALLED TWO JEEP DEALERSHIPS AND EACH SERVICE MANAGER WAS VERY SURPRISED TO HEAR OF AN ENGINE FAILURE THIS EARLY. *TR
BOTH FRONT BALL JOINTS BAD AT APPROX. 50,000 NEVER TAKEN OFF ROAD AND ITS MY WIFE'S WHO NEVER GOES OVER THE SPEED LIMIT JUST GOES TO WORK AND GROCERY. GOING TO BE ABOUT $1200 TO FIX AND SAID MY VEHICLE IS 2 MONTHS FROM DATE OF FREE REPLACEMENT THROUGH RECALL. *KB
JUST OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY MY WIFE'S 2007 PATRIOT 2.4L STARTED TO FAIL TO START. IT WAS VERIFIED THAT IT WAS NOT THE BATTERY, PCV VALVE, STARTER, OR A FUEL ISSUE. IT WOULD SIMPLY NOT START WHEN LEFT IN THE SUN (IN SUCH AS A PARKING LOT). ALL OF THE ACCESSORIES WORKED. IT WAS TOWED TO THREE DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS. NO ONE COULD FIGURE IT OUT. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND RECEIVED A COMPLAINT NUMBER. CHRYSLER REIMBURSED ME FOR THE THINGS THE DEALERSHIPS CHARGED ME TO REPLACE AND EVENTUALLY SAID THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT AND COULDN'T FIX THE CAR. THE SHOCKS ALSO FAILED PREMATURELY AT 40 THOUSAND MILES, AND THE CV JOINTS ARE SEALED UNITS AND FAILED PREMATURELY. OVERALL I AM VERY DISSATISFIED WITH THIS CAR AND CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE.

I TOOK MY JEEP PATRIOT IN FOR A POSSIBLE ALIGNMENT ISSUE TO FIND THAT FRONT BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND MY TIRES WERE WORN DOWN TO THE WIRE. THESE TIRES WERE NOT EVEN A YEAR OLD AND BACK TIRES STILL LOOK BRAND NEW. THE TIRE SHOP SAID THAT THIS WAS INCREDIBLY UNSAFE AND SUGGESTED IT TO BE TOWED. THE DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE JEEP, BUT A NON DEALERSHIP MECHANIC TOLD US THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAPPEN TO A VEHICLE ONLY 4 YEARS OLD WITH 65,000 MILES. IT ANGERS ME THAT THERE IS NOT A RECALL BECAUSE IF I WOULD HAVE LOST A TIRE THE WRECK COULD BE DEADLY. THIS IS A COMMON JEEP PROBLEM FOUND ON ALMOST ALL JEEP FORUMS ONLINE. *TR
ALTHOUGH THE WIRE TO THE STARTER HAD BEEN REPLACED IN OCTOBER 2010 BY THE DEALER, THE CAR WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING. I TOOK MY CAR TO A RELATIVE TO CHECK MY CAR SINCE NOTHING WAS REALLY GETTING RESOLVED AT THE DEALER. ONCE MY CAR WAS TURNED OFF IT WOULD NOT RESTART. MY CAR WAS EXAMINED AND THE WIRE THEY REPLACED WAS NOT PLACED BACK INTO THE PROTECTIVE CASING AND WAS SLIGHTLY CHARRED. IN ADDITION, THE STARTER WAS BURNT OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CORE WAS KEPT BY THE AUTO PART STORE THE NEW ONE WAS PURCHASED FROM. THE DEALERSHIP SAID REPLACEMENT OF MY STARTER WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. IT WAS VERY SURPRISING THE STARTER HAD TO BE REPLACED JUST AFTER 3 YEARS. *TR
WATER LEAKS OCCUR IN THE JEEP PATRIOT (ALL MODEL YEARS) FROM THE SUN ROOF, A,B & C PILLARS, THE FRONT DOME LIGHT AND REAR DOME LIGHT. THE WATER LEAK IS SO HEAVY THAT WATER WILL FILL THE VOID BETWEEN THE ACTUAL ROOF AND LINER. WATER ALSO FORCES ITS WAY INTO ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS, SUCH AS THE RADIO AND VARIOUS CONTROLS. I AM CONCERNED OVER POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO SAFETY SYSTEMS. JEEP WILL NOT REPAIR IT OUT OF WARRANTY AND HAS YET TO COME UP WITH A PROPER FIX. EXCESSIVE WEAR IN BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT LOWER CONTROL ARMS/BALL JOINTS WAS DETECTED DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE OF OUR 2007 JEEP PATRIOT. DUE TO THEIR CONDITION, IT WAS NOT ADVISABLE TO DRIVE VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAD 45,061 MILES ON IT. THOUGH THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH JEEP PATRIOTS, CHRYSLER WOULD NOT PAY FOR REPAIR SINCE REPAIR WAS NOT PERFORMED AT DEALER (IT WAS NOT SAFE OR FEASIBLE TO GET VEHICLE TO DEALER). AFTER HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH THE PATRIOT, I HAD MY 2009 JEEP COMPASS INSPECTED. AT 31,000 MILES, SIGNS OF FAILURE WHERE FOUND IN THE RIGHT LOWER BALL JOINT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP PATRIOT FWD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR INSPECTION BY THE DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TIRE RODS AND BALL JOINTS WERE FAILING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO KNOWN RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.

WHILE HAVING TIRES INSTALLED ON MY 2007 JEEP PATRIOT, THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED ME THAT MY BALL JOINTS WERE BAD AND THAT IT WAS IMPERATIVE TO GET IT FIXED AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. BEING A FEMALE AND NOT WANTING ANYONE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ME I TOOK MY JEEP TO GET A SECOND OPINION. THE SECOND TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THE SAME THING AND THAT I COULD LOSE STEERING AT ANYTIME. THEY BOTH QUOTED ME SOMEWHERE IN 1,000 DOLLAR RANGE TO FIX MY JEEP. I HAVE GOTTEN ONLINE AND READ SEVERAL FORUMS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT ON THE PATRIOT. I STARTED NOTICING A VIBRATION AND STEERING WHEEL SHIMMY. I TOOK IT IN TO GET NEW TIRES AND ALIGNMENT. I WAS TOLD (AND SHOWN) THAT BOTH FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE BAD AND THE FRONT OUTER TIE ROD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WAS BAD. I WAS TOLD THAT WITH ONLY 41100 MILES ON THE VEHICLE THE PARTS SHOULD NOT BE BAD. I WAS QUOTED A PRICE OF AROUND $1000.00 TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS. THEY COULD NOT DO THE ALIGNMENT BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE PARTS AND NOW I HAVE A VEHICLE WITH $700.00 WORTH OF NEW TIRES SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP IN TWO DAYS. I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED MAINTENANCE PLAN WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. WE'LL SEE IF THE DEALER HONORS THE AGREEMENT. I DECIDED TO INVESTIGATE AND HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AS I. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW AND IT'S ONLY BEEN DRIVEN ON PAVED STREETS AND HIGHWAYS, NEVER "OFF ROAD".
AFTER BLOWING THE RIGHT REAR TIRE IN A POT HOLE I WENT TO A TIRE STORE TO HAVE A NEW TIRE PUT ON AND ROTATE ALL TIRES WHILE THERE. THE STORE MANAGER SHOWED ME THE BALL JOINTS ON THE FRONT TWO TIRES WERE VERY LOOSE. ONLY 19,000 MILES ON THE JEEP PATRIOT 2007. PRIOR THAT I DID NOT NOTICE ANY CHANGE IN THE DRIVE. *TR

I INDEED CHECKED THE BALLS JOINTS AND THEY ARE CRACKING AT ONLY 32000 MILES LOOK LIKE THE BALLS JOINTS OF A 100000 CAR WITH 10 YEARS OF USE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT IS DEFECTIVE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. HOW CAN A CAR THAT IS KNOWN AS TRAIL RATED NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE NORMAL PAVEMENT USE WITH SO LITTLE MILES.
