The vehicle stalls after a gas fill up. Daughter was stuck in traffic. No Power steering, brakes, etc. Started back up. very dangerous. This has happened after every fill up.
Car stalls after fill up. NUMEROUS online Jeep forums have noted this issue for years. There seems to be an issue with the “vapor canister”. Recall was apparently issued for 2011 model - but not older models. It is intermittent yet consistent problem over past few months. Please note that an Engine stall leaves steering wheel LOCKED and unable to maneuver car for a period until can restart. Can leave driver on a VERY DANGEROUS situation traveling at speed !
Water leaks in through the sunroof and top racks and leaks out the dome lights inside of the car
My 2008 Jeep Patriot with 100,000 miles on it both front and rear subframes are completely rotted and unsafe I need some help I can't afford all this repair I'm disabled I'm working with my local mechanic I need you guys to help pay for some of this
Front and rear crossmembers are rusted through. Replaced front subframe for $1008.00 in 2021. Available for inspection. Could come to a complete stop if it breaks. Confirmed by independent service center. Not inspected yet. Front squeak heard 2021. Rear squeak heard 2022. This is my 2nd jeep patriot & both jeeps front & rear crossmembers are rusted through breaking apart.
UNKNOWN After I fill up on gas at different stations I had the car sputter and die after filling up til the nozzle stopped itself went to go start the car the first time it happened I got maybe half a mile down the road and stopped at a light and the car died. The second time I was at another gas station and I forgot to shut the car off because it was freezing cold felt like a negative 10 I went to go leave and thought oh crap let me shut it off for a second so the gas would register faster of what I had then if I left it on. I went to go drive away then and the car wouldn’t move I thought great what could it be well I looked down and I wasn’t “on” so I restarted the car and I could tell the car started and I sat for a few and it died. I waited a few seconds and started it again and sat for a few and then was able to go about my business. The third time I filled up and didn't think anything of it because it had been awhile since it happened but I pulled out on the street and it was at a T intersection and I was coming up and to the left well when I turned I died and the light had changed to green I was barely able to make it into the turn lane from when I coasted I shut it off and turned it back on again and we were good. Well this is what happened last night I went to the gas station filled up and sat there for a second and went to start car and it died I wait a few did it again it died. I did this like 4-5 times and I wasn't far from home so I said let's just hurry up and get home. So I got it started and I was pushing the gas as little to keep it from dying and it made it about a mile down the road and acted like it was about to shut off. I made it home sat in the driveway for about 20 mins and it acted fine.
EVERY TIME I REFILL MY TANK WITH FUEL, THE FIRST SEVERAL MINUTES OF DRIVING THE ENGINE WILL HESITATE AND ALMOST STALL (OR WILL STALL IF DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS). WHILE STOPPED IN IDLE, ENGINE WILL COMPLETELY STALL. ONCE SOME FUEL IS BURNED, THE ENGINE WILL NO LONGER STALL. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR YEARS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO DECREASE THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED HOWEVER, THE WHEELS TO LOCKED UP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT OF CONTROL AND STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND DRIVEN TO THE RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. NEITHER A DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
My airbag light on the dash board comes on and will not go away. I have had it twice reset and it does NOT go away. I was told that Jeep recalled their models but I cannot find a recall for the Patriot model. Why would all of their other models be recalled and not the Patriot? Does not make sense. 2008 Jeep Patriot.
WHEN THE GAS TANK IS FULL THE SERVICE LIGHTS COME ON ENGINE STALLS OUT ABOUT HALF A MILE DOWN THE ROAD. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP WHEN THE ENGINE GOES OUT SO YOU CANT EVEN COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.
UPON CHANGING REAR TIRE WE FOUND SEVER FRAME RUST AND REAR AXLE DISCONNECTED FROM THE MAIN FRAME. THIS CAME FROM AN MECHANIC'S THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO AND SHOULD BE PARKED
I WAS INFORMED BY A SHOP AT AN OIL CHANGE THAT THE JEEP PATRIOT 2008 HAS EXTENSIVE RUST AND CORROSION AND IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THIS JEEP HAS BEEN SERVICED MANY TIMES AT A JEEP DEALER IN THE PAST AND HAVE NEVER BEEN INFORMED OF ANY RUST .WITH THIS INFO WE HAVE RESEARCHED 2008 PATRIOTS AND HAVE DISCOVERED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH RUST AND CORROSION . I WILL REACH OUT TO THE JEEP DEALER AS WE PURCHASED A LIFE TIME MAXIMUM WARRANTY AT PURCHASE WHEN WE BOUGHT NEW .
AFTER FILLING UP GAS TANK TO NORMAL LEVEL, CAR STALLED AND LOST CONTROLS OF VEHICLE
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 3 ALTERNATORS THROUGHOUT THE PAST 2 MONTHS DUE TO A ELECTRIC PROBLEM. MY BATTERY LIGHT BECAME ILLUMINATED EACH TIME I WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY GOING AROUND 70 MPH. THE BATTERY LIGHT INDICATOR TELLS ME MY BATTERY IS NOT PROPERLY CHARGING DUE TO MY ALTERNATOR. THIS LEADS TO IT HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE COMPUTER IN MY CAR AS I WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC AND THAT THE PROBLEM WITH KEEP HAPPENING UNTIL I GET ANOTHER COMPUTER WHICH COSTS A GOOD AMOUNT TO HAVE REPLACED OR FIXED.
FILLED UP GAS TANK AND CAR STALLED AT STOP LIGHT SHORTLY AFTER. PULLED INTO DRIVEWAY AFTER A 5-MINUTE DRIVE AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND CAR HAD STALLED.
I MADE A U-TURN IN MY VEHICLE ON A TOWN STREET , AS I COMPLETED THE U-TURN THE VEHICLES REAR SUSPENSION BROKE. THE BROKEN SUSPENSION MADE THE VEHICLE FEEL LIKE IT WAS GOING OVER A RUMBLE STRIP, THE SUSPENSION BEING BROKE MADE THE WHEELS TURN IN TOWARDS THE WHEEL WELLS WHERE IT RUBBED AND EVENTUALLY BLEW MY TIRE. I WAS LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO PULL OFF SAFELY. WHEN I FINALLY GOT IT TOO A AUTO SHOP THEY TOLD ME THE SUSPENSION RUSTED IN TWO .IT HAD TO BE MOVED WITH A FLAT BED. I HAD THE VEHICLES FRONT FIXED IN JANUARY OF 2017 . WHICH WAS UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE OF COMPLAINTS SO THE VEHICLES REAR TOOK AN EXTRA THREE YEARS TO RUST OUT WHICH IS ONLY TWO YEARS OVER THE WARRANTY. I HAVE ENCLOSED A COPY OF BILL FROM WHEN THEN FRONT WAS DONE.
I HAD TO HAVE THE SUBFRAME AND CROSS MEMBER REPLACED ON MY 2008 PATRIOT IN JANUARY 2017, IT HAS RUSTED AGAIN AND THE SAME PARTS NEED REPLACED, IT WAS REPLACED OE PARTS WHICH I FEEL WERE FAULTY. I WAS MAKING A U-TURN ON A SMALL CITY STREET AND MY REAR CROSS MEMBER BROKE, I THOUGHT I RAN OVER A SOMETHING THEN MY STEERING WHEEL SHIMMED , MY TIRES THAT WERE HELD IN THE CROSS MEMBER WERE NOW TILTED IN TO MY CROSS MEMBER MAKING BLACK SMOKE. MY TIRE RUBBED ON MY WHEEL WELL UNTILL BLEW . I WAS VERY LUCKY I WAS NOT GOING FAST WHEN THIS OCCURED.
WENT FOR AN OIL CHANGE, MECHANIC NOTED THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER WAS RUSTED AND, SHOULD IT BREAK, MY TIRES WOULD FOLD IN AND ENGINE WOULD FALL OUT. JEEP RECALLED THOSE PART ON ITS 2007 PATRIOTS, BUT NOT ON 2008, DESPITE WHAT SEEMS TO BE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS CRUCIAL PART RUSTING PREMATURELY. I CONTACTED JEEP AND THEY TOLD ME THE WARRANTY EXPIRED IN 2017 (THE YEAR WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE) AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THIS IS A DIRE MATTER OF SAFETY AND IT'S SHAMEFUL THAT JEEP WON'T LIFT A FINGER TO REPLACE THESE PARTS. REPAIR ESTIMATES ARE $1300-1500 FOR A VEHICLE VALUED BY KBB AT LESS THAN $500.
MY REAR PASSENGER SIDE AXLE BROKE. AND IT NEEDED A SWAY BAR LINK FOR THE SAME SIDE. I BOUGHT A NEW AXLE AND SWAY BAR LINK. MY MECHANIC TOOK OFF MY TIRE TO FIX THE PARTS AND SAID THAT THE FRAME OR SUB FRAME IS COMPLETELY CORRODED AND UNABLE TO HOLD THE SWAY BAR LINK BECAUSE THERE IS NO PLACE TO ATTACH IT. YESTERDAY I WENT TO THE STORE AND THE NEW AXLE BROKE WHILE DRIVING. VERY UNSAFE AND WHEN I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN MAY 2018 I WAS NOT TOLD ABOUT IT. I HAD THE JEEP INSIDE A SHOP TO FIX MY SLAVE CYLINDER IN NOV. 2019 AND A FEW OTHER THINGS AND THEY NEVER EVEN TOLD ME HOW BAD IT LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE. I HAVE CALLED JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY JEEP. BUT WHEN I DID SOME RESEARCH EVERYONE HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUE I AM HAVING. THERE WAS A RECALL ON ALL JEEPS FOR THE SUB FRAME RUSTING OUT. AND EVERY CUSTOMER SAID JEEP WOULDN'T HELP
EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE GAS TANK AND THEN DRIVE, THE JEEP STALLS, I LOSE STEERING, IT IS NOT SAFE. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES.
THE VALVE INSIDE THE FUEL TANK BROKE AND THE JEEP CAN NO LONGER BE FILLED WITH GAS WITHOUT THE GAS PUMP BELIEVING IT IS ALREADY FULL AND TURNING OFF. THIS RESULTS IN MANY, MANY ATTEMPTS TO PUT FUEL INTO THE VEHICLE AND GAS LEAKING OUT OF THE FUEL PUMP DOWN THE SIDE OF THE JEEP AND ALL OVER THE GROUND. MY MECHANIC WAS TRYING TO FIND THE ISSUE AND IN HIS RESEARCH FOUND IT TO BE A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT A NON SERVICEABLE PIECE, MEANING THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK MUST BE REPLACED. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED AND CREATED AN ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD AND A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD AS WELL.
EVERY TIME THE FUEL TANK IS FILLED, THE ENGINE STALLS A COUPLE MINUTES AFTER I PULL OUT OF THE GAS STATION. THIS HAS HAPPENED GETTING ON HIGHWAYS AND IS A POTENTIALLY DEADLY SITUATION THAT APPARENTLY IS WELL KNOWN WITH THIS VEHICLE. FOR WHATEVER REASON THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED YET AND WON'T UNTIL SOMEBODY IS KILLED. PLEASE TAKE ACTION TO GET THIS RECALLED TO REPAIR THE SITUATION. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON AT LEAST A DOZEN OCCASIONS SO FAR.
I WAS GOING DOWN FERN VALLEY ROAD IN LOUISVILLE, KY AND SOMEONE IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES AND TO AVOID COLLISION I SLAMMED ON MINE. I HEARD A CRUNCH AND WHEN I TOOK OFF MY DRIVER SIDE TIRE SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS SQUEALING SO I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. MY DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS COCKED SIDEWAYS AND THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS STRAIGHT. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED YET SO I JUST GOT IT TOWED. IT APPEARS THE SUBFRAME HAS SNAPPED DUE TO A LARGE AMOUNT OF RUST.
I HAVE HAD THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS AND OTHER ASSOCIATED PARTS AS TO WHY MY ABS LIGHT IS ON AND ALL THAT'S LEFT IS THE ABS MODULE. I KNOW OTHER PATRIOT OWNERS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND IT AFFECTS THE DRIVING ON MY VEHICLE. SEEMS LIKE MY BRAKES AREN'T WORKING QUITE RIGHT WHEN I DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL.
AFTER FILLING UP MY GAS TANK THIS MORNING, MY CAR SPUTTERED AND STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION IMMEDIATELY AFTER I LEFT GAS STATION. I WAS YIELDING TO TURN LEFT TO ENTER THE NORTHBOUND LANES OF I-69. I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE FOR QUITE AWHILE NOW AND MY MECHANIC HASN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND AN ISSUE SINCE IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I FILL UP THE GAS TANK. I DECIDED THIS MORNING TO LOOK FOR OTHER JEEP OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND FOUND A FORUM THAT DATES BACK TO OVER 3 YEARS AGO WITH PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, THEIR FINDINGS HAVE LED TO THE GAS TANK NEEDING TO BE REPLACED IN PART TO A FAULTY PART THAT SITS ON/IN THE GAS TANK. IN THE PAST, I'VE HAD TO TIME TRAFFIC LIGHTS IN ORDER TO MAKE IT THROUGH WITHOUT STALLING BUT OBVIOUSLY THAT DIDN'T WORK TODAY. TYPICALLY, THIS IS ONLY AN ISSUE WHEN I'M DRIVING AT SLOWER SPEEDS OR IN STOP/GO TRAFFIC. ALSO, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND IS VERY HARD TO TURN TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC. OFTEN TIMES, THE JEEP DOESN'T START RIGHT AWAY. YOU HAVE TO REV THE ENGINE AND THEN PUT IN DRIVE QUICKLY AND TAKE OFF OR IT STALLS AGAIN. IN THE FORUM, SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE TRIED TO REPLACE PARTS FOR QUICK FIXES WITHOUT ANY SUCCESS. THIS SHOULD OBVIOUSLY BE SOMETHING THE CAR MAKERS SHOULD FIX WITHOUT PASSING THE COST ALONG TO THE OWNER.
MY JEEP 2008 PATRIOT STALLS WHEN I AM DRIVING, RIGHT AFTER I FILL THE FUEL TANK. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM AT FIRST AND HAVE ALMOST BEEN REAR ENDED SEVERAL TIMES! I TOOK IT TO A COUPLE OF GARAGES WHO COULDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS. THE COMPUTER DOESN'T SHOW ANY RELATED CODES. NOW I HAVE TO STOP FILLING MY TANK TO THE TOP OR ELSE IT WILL STALL 5 OR 6 TIMES FOR THE FIRST 10 MILES OR SO. IT'S A HARD, SUDDEN STALL, AND I LOSE ALL POWER STEERING, BREAKS AND CONTROL OF THE CAR. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS! I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE ARTICLES WITH MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, AND AM SURPRISED IT HASN'T BEEN RECALLED CONSIDERING HOW DANGEROUS THIS IS.
I'M ABLE TO PUT MY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT IN GEARS BIT WHEN I PUT IT INTO DRIVE MY VEICHLE WON'T MOVE FORWARD. BEFORE THIS HAPPENS MY THERMOSTAT TRANSMISSION O2 HEAT SENSOR CAME ON AND WAS DIFFICULT TO GAIN SPEED. I WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER AND SHUT MY JEEP OFF AND LET IT COOL OFF BEFORE STARRING IT BACK AND WAS FINE AFTER THE SENSOR WENT OFF.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE REVERSING INTO THE DRIVEWAY, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN AND WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE REAR SUBFRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
NEVER RECEIVED EXTENDED WARRANTY INFORMATION ON FRONT AND REAR CROSSMEMBER CORROSION (X69 WARRANTY EXTENSION). HAVE ALL REQUIRED MAINTENANCE AT DEALER. THEY NEVER MENTIONED THE EXTENDED COVERAGE NOR DID THEY TELL ME AFTER ANY OF THE SERVICE THERE WAS A RUST ISSUE. NOW THEY REFUSE TO COVER THIS REPAIR. I ALSO HAVE THE LIFETIME MOPAR MAXIMUM CARE. THEY ALSO WON'T COVER BECAUSE THEY SAY THE PART FAILURE IS DUE TO RUST. TGE PARTS REQUIRING REPLACEMENT SHOULD ALL BE COVERED. THEY ARE:REAR CROSSMEMBER - REAR UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS - BOTH REAR CALIPERS
VEHICLE HAS A RECURRING PROBLEM WHEN DRIVING EXTENDED DISTANCES OR IN HILLY AREAS, THE TRANSMISSION WILL BEGIN WHINING AND TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHT WILL TURN ON, VEHICLE WILL THEN LOSE POWER AND WILL HAVE TO BE PULLED OVER ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE IT COOLS DOWN ENOUGH TO DRIVE ANOTHER TEN MINUTES. AFTER HAVING IT EXAMINED BY A MECHANIC, I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE WITH THE 2005-2010 JEEP PATRIOTS EQUIPPED WITH CVT TRANSMISSIONS AND REQUIRES A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT, AND THAT IF IT IS REPLACED WITH THE SAME TRANSMISSION, I CAN EXPECT THE SAME ISSUE LATER ON.
MY COMPLAINT IS THAT A WEEK LATER AFTER WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE WENT TO A MECHANIC TO READ US THE SIGNS AND HAS SO MANY ISSUES WRONG WITH IT AND THE MILES ARE LOW ON THE VEHICLE BUT REALLY HIGH ON HISTORY. WATER COMES INSIDE MY VEHICLE MAKING IT FLOOD. ALSO WHEN WE DRIVE WE TRY TO ACCELERATE AND THE SPEED STAYS AT 20MPH AND MAKES TICKING NOISE. THIS IS NOT SAFE ESPECIALLY WHEN I'M WITH MY KIDS. I TRY SWITCHING LANES AND IT TAKES TIME TO SWITCH LANES OR MAKE TURN BECAUSE OF HOW SLOW THE ACCELERATION IS.
IN AUGUST OF 2018 I HAVE MY CAR IN THE DEALERSHIP GETTING A REAR WHEEL BEARING, CV AXLE CHANGED OUT. THIS YEAR I HAD IT IN THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN FOR THE SAME ISSUE BUT DIFFERENT REAR WHEEL BEARING. DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THEN THAT MY VEHICLE CROSS MEMBERS & SUB FRAME IN BOTH FRONT & REAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND QUOTED ME ACCORDINGLY. I FEEL THAT THE SUB FRAMES & CROSS MEMBERS HAVE BEEN RUSTY SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED FROM THIS DEALERSHIP IN 2015. WHEN I FOUND INFORMATION ON THE X69 EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS EXACT RUST ISSUE, I FEEL THAT I HAVE BEEN TAKEN A FOOL THAT THE DEALERSHIP NEGLECTED TO ALERT ME IN 2018 WHEN MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AT THE END OF THE YEAR, JUST TO BRING IT UP AGAIN IN 2019 TO MAKE A BUCK. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AS WELL (6-3-19). THEY FEIGNED THEIR VIP SYSTEM WAS DOWN AND COULDN'T LOOK UP DEALERSHIP INFO??? THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL ME BACK AND EVEN HAD MY CONTACT INFORMATION ON HAND (HOW CAN THEY HAVE THAT INFO JUST FROM ME NAME OR VIN?) CHRYSLER STILL HASN'T CALLED ME BACK. I AM PISSED ABOUT THIS.
EACH TIME AFTER FUELING UP THE VEHICLE, IT STALLS OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER ON A CITY STREET AFTER LEAVING THE GAS STATION. THE FIRST TIME MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR STALLED OUT. THE NEXT TIME THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND STALLED. THIS IS A FRIGHTENING AND COMMONLY CITED ISSUE WITH PATRIOT OWNERS.
BRIEF SUMMARY: I PURCHASED THE 2008 PATRIOT IN 2014 WITH 70K MILES. FIRST OCCURANCE OF VEHICLE STALLING AND SHUTTING OFF OCCURED IN 2015 WITH 80K MILES; WHEN THE THROTTLE BODY LIGHT/ ESP BEGAN FLASHING AND SPUTTERED A FEW SECONDS BEFORE IT SHUT OFF WHILE IN MOTION. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED WITH IN 10 MINUTES. I HAD THE THROTTLE BODY AND GASKET REPAIRED. SINCE THEN THERE HAS BEEN OTHER RANDOM OCCASIONS OF STALLING WHERE THE THROTTLE LIGHT/ ESP AND ENGINE LIGHT FLASHES PRECEDDING A STALL. NOW 2018-19 (107K MILES) I WENT IN FOR DIAGNOSIS BECAUSE MY CAR STALLED AGIN THIS TIME WAS IN BUSY TRAFFIC AND THROTTLE LIGHT, ESP LIGHTS, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON BEFORE THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THERE IS A CRANKSHAFT ISSUE THAT CAUSES THE ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON AND STALL THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY. I HAD CRANKSHAFT REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS CHANGED, THE THROTTLE BODY CLEANED AND THE ELECTICAL HARNESSES SERVICED TO YET HAVE THE SAME ISSUE OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED 24 HRS AFTER REPAIRS. THE ENGINE, THROTTLEBODY AND ESP LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN WITH IN 24 HOURS BEFORE SHUTTING OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION OF TRAFFIC. I AM NOW HAVING A 3RD INDEPENDENT MECHANIC LOOK INTO THE ISSUE AND SEE IF THERE IS ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE CAUSING THE INTERMITTENT STALLING. I SPOKE WITH JEEP CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY STATED THAT MY PARTICULAR VIN DOESN'T HAVE A RECALL ALTHOUGH OTHER PATRIOTS OF THE SAME CLASS HAVE HAD SAME OCCURENCE AND RECALL YET THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO FOR ME IN THIS CASE TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY ISSUE OR REPAIRS SINCE I AM OUT OF WARRANTY. I STRONGLY RECCOMMEND THAT THE DOT INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER AND REQUIRE JEEP TO EITHER RECALL THE VEHICLE OR REQUIRE JEEP TO REPAIR THESE VEHICLES TO SAFE PERFORMANCE ON THE ROADS AND/OR REFUND ME THE PURCHASE PRICE AS I AM STILL IN CONTRACT PAYING FOR A NON FUNCTIONAL RISKY VEHICLE. *JS
I FILLED UP THE JEEP WITH GAS WHILE STATIONARY AND OFF. I TURNED ON THE JEEP AND THE ENGINE TURNED OVER FINE. I STOPPED AT THE STOP SIGN WHILE EXITING THE GAS STATION, AND THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE WHEEL LOCKED. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FILL UP. THE ENGINE STALLS FOR SEVERAL DAYS AFTER FILL UP ANYTIME I COME TO A FULL STOP. THANKFULLY, I HAVE YET TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT BUT, I NO LONGER FEEL CONFIDENT THAT THIS VEHICLE WILL REMAIN RELIABLE. THIS MALFUNCTION COULD CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS OR THE INABILITY TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY IN AN EMERGENCY.
AFTER REFUELING THE CAR TO HAVING A FULL TANK OF GAS, A SHORT DISTANCE LATER - USUALLY LESS THAN ONE MILE - THE CAR SUFFERS A SEVERE HESITATION AND ONCE STALLED COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE IS ALWAYS IN MOTION AND ON A CITY STREET USUALLY DRIVING STRAIGHT. IT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES, TODAY BEING THE MOST RECENT.
JEEP STALLS AND LOCKS WHEN GAS TANK IS FILLED. HAS HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF FAST MOVING TRAFFIC A FEW TIMES WITH MY BABIES IN THE CAR. VERY DANGEROUS!
I PURCHASED MY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT AND FOUND OUT IT HAS A ROTTED CROSSMEMBER SUBFRAME. UPON RESEARCH I FOUND OUT JEEP KNEW IT HAD THIS ISSUE IN HIGH SALT AREAS AND WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING IT. I TRIED TO GET IT FIXED AT HARTLEY'S DEALERSHIP IN NEWPORT MAINE AND THEY SAID THE COMPANY IS NO LONGER HONORING THE REPAIR, DEPITE THE INCREDIBLE SAFETY ISSUE THIS CAUSES. THE VEHICLE CAN LITERALLY BREAK IN HALF AND KILL SOMEONE YET THEY HAVEN'T DONE A FULL RECALL? THEY DID AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR IT THAT HAS EXPIRED BEFORE I WAS INFORMED ABOUT IT. HOW ARE THEY NOT BEING HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY ISSUES THEY ARE HAVING IN SO MANY OF THEIR VEHICLES? I FEEL LIKE THEY SHOULD BE RECALLED.
JUST BOUGHT USED JEEP 2 DAYS AGO, FILLED TANK UP WITH GAS, PULLED OUT ONTO HIGHWAY, STALLED OUT AND JEEP DIED, ALMOST HIT BY ON COMING VEHICLE, THANKFULLY SHE HAD ENOUGH TIME TO STOP AND GIVE ME THE FINGER. SAT THERE FOR A FEW MINUTES WITH HAZARDS ON, CURSING MY LUCK AS I'VE ONLY HAD THIS JEEP FOR 5 HOURS AND HAD TO BE IN WORK IN 20 MIN. PRAYED AND STARTED THE JEEP RIGHT UP AND ON TO WORK. COMING HOME SAME NIGHT DECIDED TO TAKE ON INTERSTATE TO SEE HOW IT WOULD DO AT 65-70 MPH AND HOLY MOLY THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VIBRATING LIKE ONE OF THE MASSAGE CHAIRS IN THE MALL. COME TO FIND OUT ON FORUMS THAT JEEP OWNERS ARE AWARE OF THE GAS ISSUE (DEALER DOESN'T KNOW OR NEGLECTED TO TELL US) AS WE ARE FIRST TIME JEEP OWNERS. THE VIBRATING STEERING WHEEL --- WELL THAT SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE TOO, BUT OUR VIN DOESN'T SEEM TO BE ON THE RECALL LIST EVEN THOUGH I LIVE IN PA AND FALL INTO THE COVERED YEARS. I AM BRINGING CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED FROM TO HAVE THEM CORRECT THE ISSUES. WE HAVE A 30DAY 1000 MILE WARRANTY. LETS SEE HOW MUCH OF A FUSS I HAVE TO MAKE OVER THIS. FILLING GAS TANK AND STALLING OUT ON HIGHWAY I'D SAY THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. VIBRATING STEERING WHEEL COULD FALL UNDER THE X69 EXTENDED WARRANTY---WILL KNOW MORE ON MONDAY.
08 JEEP PATRIOT CUTS OFF WHEN STOPPING TO MAKE TURNS, AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS ETC. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN ON-COMING TRAFFIC. WHEN FUELING PUMP CLICKS OFF EVERY FEW CENTS.
CONSITENTLY AFTER FILLING MY GAS TANK, WHEN DRIVING WITHIN A QUARTER MILE, THE VEHICLE WILL HESITATE AND BUCK AS IF IT WERE ABOUT TO STALL. THIS ONLY HAPPENS INITIALLY AND DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN UNTIL I REFUEL. HOWEVER THE BUCKING HAS BECOMING MORE PRONOUNCED EACH TIME I FILL UP TO THE POINT NOW THAT THE ENGINE HAS COMPLETELY STALLED. THANKFULLY THIS DID NOT OCCUR WHILE THE CAR WAS TRAVELING BUT INSTEAD WHILE SITTING AT A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. I'VE READ THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE ALSO EXPERIENCING THIS WITH THEIR SAME MAKE/MODELS AND IT HAS CAUSED THEIR ENGINES TO STALL COMPLETELY WHILE IN TRANSIT WHICH HAS CAUSED THE STEERING TO LOCK. THIS IS A SAFETY CONDITION THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INTO A BAD ACCIDENT OR WORSE.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

AFTER REFUELING MY VEHICLE, SHORTLY THEREAFTER (WITHIN A FEW MINUTES) MY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT STALLS WHEN IDELING OR TRAVELING AT LOWER SPEEDS. MOST RECENTLY THE STALL HAPPENED WHEN MERGING ONTO A MAIN ROAD AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS IS A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE IN 2008 JEEP PATRIOTS AND NEEDS TO ADDRESSED SOONER RATHER THAN LATER. MOST REMEDIES SEEM TO BE A REP LAMENT OF THE FUEL TANK AND VAPOR CANISTER.
APPROXIMATELY 12/2018 I HAD TO HAVE MY GAS TANK REPLACED DUE TO A FAULTY ROLLOVER VALVE/FLAPPER/INLET CHECK VALVE LOCATED IN THE GAS TANK. I AM NOW HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE NEW GAS TANK. THE COST TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM IS WELL OVER $1400 AND TO HAVE TO DO THE SAME REPAIR TWICE IS UNTHINKABLE. THIS HAS TO BE SOME SORT OF SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL, BECAUSE IF THESE VALVES/FLAPPERS ARE SUPPOSED TO EXPEL AIR FROM THE SYSTEM, COULDN'T THIS BE HARMING MY VEHICLE MORE AND/OR CAUSE PRESSURE TO BUILD IN THE TANK? THERE WAS TSB 14-001-09 REV A ISSUED. CHRYSLER ADMITS THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM AND HAS RECALLED A BUNCH OF JEEPS, DODGES, AND SOME CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY VANS. HOWEVER, MY MAKE AND MODEL (08 PATRIOT) IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THEY ISSUED FOR THE GAS TANKS.

VEHICLE BEGAN JERKING ON ACCELERATION WITH LOUD NOISE IN REAR. TOOK TO MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE SUB FRAME WAS RUSTED OUT. THE MECHANIC THAT THERE WAS SEVERE CROSSMEMBER CORROSION AND TO STOP DRIVING IMMEDIATELY.
MY VEHICLE WILL SOMETIMES NOT GO WHEN I PRESS THE GAS. THE BRAKES DON'T PROPERLY WORK, THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE LOCK FAILS, THE ESP LIGHT FLASHES, THE TRACTION CONTROL FAILS, AND IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO DRIVE OVER 5 MILES AN HOUR. I HAVE YET TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT, BUT I FEAR IT MAY HAPPEN. IT HAPPENS IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING TO DRIVE, AND DOESN'T ALWAYS CORRECT ITSELF. I CONTACTED JEEP AND THEY TOLD ME I'M ON MY OWN. IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES AND WONDER WHY THEY HAVEN'T RECALLED THEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I FEAR I'M STUCK WITH A LEMON VEHICLE, BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED AND I'VE ONLY BEEN IN POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE FOR 10 MONTHS. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS MOVING FORWARD?
