I PURCHASED A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT NEW IN 2008. IN 2011 WITH 28,916 MILES ON THE VEHICLE THE BALL JOINTS HAD TO BE REPLACED. BECAUSE THE BALL JOINT WERE PERMANENTLY ATTACHED TO THE CONTROL ARMS, THEY HAD TO BE REPLACED AS A SINGLE UNIT. THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE WERE WORN THROUGH TO THE STEEL BELTS DUE TO RUBBING FROM THE BAD BALL JOINTS. IF I HADN'T FELT THE CHANGE IN MY VEHICLE, I MIGHT WELL HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT FROM A FRONT END BLOWOUT, OR FROM ONE OR BOTH OF THE BALL JOINTS FAILING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE MECHANIC WHO FIXED THE VEHICLE AND THE JEEP SERVICE MANAGER THAT I SPOKE TO SAID THAT THERE IS NO WAY THE BALL JOINTS SHOULD HAVE NEEDED REPLACEMENT WITH THAT LOW MILEAGE ON THEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER CHECKED FOR RECALLS AND SAID THAT THERE WEREN'T ANY. THE MECHANIC EVEN GAVE ME THE OLD PARTS TO PROVE THAT THE REPAIR WAS DEFINITELY NEEDED, AND IN CASE THERE WAS A RECALL IN THE FUTURE. *KB
OUR VEHICLE HAD BEEN MAKING CREAKING/GROANING NOISES FOR A FEW WEEKS. WE TOOK IT TO PEPBOYS FOR IT'S ANNUAL INSPECTION, WHEN THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT BOTH LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE BAD, ALONG WITH THE DRIVER-SIDE OUTER TIE ROD. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 20,058 MILES AT THE TIME OF INSPECTION, AND I'VE READ MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON VARIOUS WEBSITES AS WELL AS HERE ON SAFERCAR.GOV REGARDING THESE PREMATURE BALL JOINT FAILURES, AND THE RELATED PARTS THAT HAVE SUBSEQUENTLY FAILED. I OPENED A CASE WITH CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CARE, AND AFTER HAVING THEIR OWN PEOPLE INSPECT THE VEHICLE, THEY'VE REPLACED ONLY THE PASSENGER SIDE BALL JOINT AND THE FAILED TIE ROD. AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE (AND PAYING FOR A PORTION OF THE REPAIR SERVICE, WHICH INCLUDED $150 FOR THE 'EXTENDED WARRANTY' CO-PAY AND A $69.95 ALIGNMENT) THE VEHICLE IS STILL MAKING SOME SQUEAKS, INDICATING THAT THE DRIVER-SIDE BALL JOINT MAY ALSO BE FAILING. I GUESS SOMEONE HAS TO DIE BEFORE A SAFETY RECALL IS ISSUED, OTHERWISE THERE'D ALREADY BE ONE BASED ON THE CURRENT LEVEL OF COMPLAINTS. I HOPE THAT THE NHTSA WILL TAKE THE STEPS REQUIRED TO IMPLEMENT A SAFETY RECALL OF ALL MK49 CHASSIS CODE SUSPENSION PARTS (JEEP PATRIOT AND COMPASS, AND DODGE CALIBER) BEFORE THE SUDDEN FAILURE OF ONE OF THESE PREMATURELY FAILING BALL JOINTS CAUSES ANY DEATHS DUE TO WHEEL DISCONNECTION AND LOSS OF CONTROL.
2008 JEEP PATRIOT FRONT BALL JOINT NEEDED REPLACED AT 46,000 MILES. *KB
THE CAR WAS ON THE LIFT FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE WHEN MY MECHANIC CHECKED THE TIRES TO SEE IF I WAS HAVING ANY ISSUES WITH THE BALL JOINTS. HE HAS ANOTHER JEEP PATRIOT IN THE GARAGE WITH PROBLEM BALL JOINTS, THAT CAR HAS JUST SLIGHTLY LESS MILES THAN MINE DOES. HE THEN CALLED ME NOTIFYING ME THAT BALL JOINTS WERE BAD, ONE HE CONSIDERED DANGEROUSLY BAD AND HE WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME. HE HAS SINCE REPLACED THE SEVERELY DAMAGED ONE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO REPLACE THE OTHER AS THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO DO SO. THIS IS THE SECOND SUSPENSION PROBLEM I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR. I HAD TO HAVE TIE RODS REPLACED AT 15000 MILES ( COVERED BY WARRANTY). I DO NOT USE THE VEHICLE OFF ROAD AND I AM RIGOROUS ABOUT KEEPING UP WITH ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. I SPOKE WITH THE DEALER AND WAS GIVEN THE RUN AROUND, SO I CALLED CHRYSLER AND AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM. MY MECHANIC FEELS THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT HAVE TO REPAIRED AT THIS STAGE, GIVEN THE MILEAGE AND THE CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE. DUE TO THIS ISSUE I HAVE SOME PRETTY SERIOUS WEAR ON TIRES I JUST REPLACED IN SEPTEMBER OF LAST YEAR.
SEVERE RATTING IN THE FRONT END OF MY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. I TOOK IT TO A GARAGE TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND THEY SAID THE BALL JOINTS WERE BAD THE VEHICLE HAS 66000 MILES. AFTER RESERCHING IT ONLINE AND OVER A 500 COMPLAINTS IN CHAT FORMS FOR THE SAME THING I FOUND THAT CHRYSLER HAD A RRT 08-070 FOR IMPROPER TORQUE ON THE LOWER A ARM BOLT. I FURTHER RESERCHED IT AND FOUND THAT THIS BOLT IS AN MVSS BOLT THAT WAS INCORRECTLY TORQUED. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO CONFIRM THE RRT AND THE SAID MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND GOT THE RUNAROUND THAT THE VEHICLE MILAGE COULD OF BEEN THE ISSUE. THERE WERE MANY POSTS ON JEEP PATRIOT.COM STATING THEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS ON THE SAME YEAR AND MAKE MODELS. ONE POST STATED THEY PULLED OUT OF THE DEALRSHIP AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE FRONT TIRE FELL OFF. MY WIFE AND GRANDSON DO ALOT OF TRAVELING IN THE VEHICLE AND I WOULD HATE FOR THEM TO BE TRAVELING AND HIT A POT HOLE AND THE BOLT SHEAR OFF BECAUSE OF CHRYSLERS NOT WANTING TO MAKE A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. I WORKED 14 YEARS AS A QUALITY ENGINEER IN THE AUTOMOVTIVE BUSINESS FOR A TEIR 2 SUPPLIER AND CHRYSLER WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM ON MAKING A RECALL ON A PART THAT WAS PRODUCED BY OUR COMPANY AND MAKE US PAY FOR IT. I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE AT HAND WITH THE FRONT WHEEL ASSEMBLY A ARM BOLT BREAKING AND THE ASSEMBLY FALLING OFF. *TT
2008 JEEP PATRIOT FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS AND OUTER TIE RODS WERE BAD AFTER 45K MILES (99.9% HIGHWAY MILES). THE LOWER ARMS AND OUTER TIE RODS WERE REPLACED. THE DEFECTIVE PARTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, SHE NOTICED A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HER THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE TRANSMISSION. APPROXIMATELY 20,000 MILES LATER THE TRANSMISSION EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HER THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED A SECOND TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND HAD NOT YET RESPONDED TO THE CONTACT'S CONCERNS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 42,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 66,000.
IN MARCH 2011, I BROUGHT MY CAR TO MY REGULAR MECHANIC FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND BASIC INSPECTION OF THE TIRES. EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT FINE. I ASKED HIM HOW THE BRAKES LOOKED, HE DID AN INSPECTION AND FOUND THAT THEY WERE IN REALLY GOOD SHAPE. IN MAY, I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A WOBBLING OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN I NEARED 65 MPH AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES COMING TO A STOP. I BROUGHT MY CAR BACK TO THE MECHANIC ON MAY 27, 2011 ESPECIALLY WHEN I STARTED TO HEAR A CLANK/CLUNK/LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OCCURRING WHEN THE CAR ENCOUNTERED A BUMP OR IN MAKING A RIGHT TURN AND ENCOUNTERING A BUMP AT THE SAME TIME. THIS NOISE WAS IN ADDITION TO THE WOBBLING NOW. UPON INSPECTION THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT I NEEDED BRAKES AND ROTORS. THE ROTORS WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THIS MAINTENANCE WAS DONE BUT THE WOBBLING AND LOUD NOISE PERSISTED OCCURRING AT A SPEED OF 50 MPH INSTEAD OF STARTING AT 65 MPH. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN AGAIN FOR ANOTHER INSPECTION AND THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE BALL JOINTS AND CONTROL ARMS ON THE FRONT END WERE BAD, THE RIGHT BEING MUCH WORSE THAN THE LEFT. BASICALLY THE BALL JOINTS LOOKED LIKE THEY HAD BEEN ON A CAR WITH 100K MILES ON IT WHEN MY VEHICLE HAS 41K AND IS UNDER 3 YEARS OLD. HE STATED THAT THE FAULTY BALL JOINTS SEEMED TO HAVE CAUSED THE SUDDEN DAMAGE TO THE BRAKES AND ROTORS ESPECIALLY SINCE HE HAD JUST INSPECTED THE BRAKES IN MID MARCH. I SPENT $800 ON BRAKES AND ROTORS AND WILL BE PAYING AN ADDITIONAL $800 FOR THE BALL JOINTS AND CONTROL ARMS TO BE REPLACED ON THE FRONT END. *TR
I LIVE AND DRIVE IN THE NEW YORK AREA. OFTEN WHEN I GO ON DRIVES OF 20 MILES OR MORE IN THE SUMMERTIME MONTHS, AND IT COULD BE ANYWHERE BETWEEN 70 TO 90 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT OUTSIDE, THE 2008 JEEP PATRIOT BECOMES A DANGEROUS VEHICLE TO DRIVE. WHEN TRAVELING WITH THIS VEHICLE ON A FREEWAY OR INTERSTATE AT A LEGALLY HIGH RATE OF SPEED, THE VEHICLE OFTEN EXPERIENCES SOME MALFUNCTION THAT CAUSES A SHUT DOWN. THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY REDUCES ITS SPEED TO BELOW 30 MPH WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR SIGN OF STRESS. IMAGINE DRIVING DOWN I-95 WITH HUGE TRUCKS BEHIND YOU AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPS RESPONDING TO THE ACCELERATOR BUT RATHER AUTOMATICALLY SLOWS AND THERE IS NOTHING I (OR ANYONE) CAN DO TO PREVENT IT BECAUSE THERE IS NO WARNING. MY FIRST INSTINCT IS TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE SO I DON'T GET REAR ENDED FROM LARGE TRUCKS, BUT SOMETIMES THIS OCCURS WHERE THERE IS NO PLACE TO PULL OVER. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME AT LEAST 10 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE JEEP IN SEPTEMBER OF 2008. I AM FEARFUL TO DRIVE THE JEEP LONG DISTANCES ON WARM DAYS, ESPECIALLY ON HIGHWAYS. THERE IS NO INDICATION THAT THE JEEP IS GOING TO SHUT DOWN FROM WHAT IS APPARENTLY AN OVERHEATED TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THE "TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHT" ILLUMINATES AT THE SAME TIME THE VEHICLE BEGINS AUTOMATICALLY SLOWING DOWN. FURTHER, THE MECHANICS I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO DO NO??T UNDERSTAND WHY IT HAPPENS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ON THE WEB AND LEARNED THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF OTHER JEEP OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED AS IT PROVES A DANGEROUS HAZARD TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD, AND BECAUSE IT POSES A SERIOUS RISK TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY. THE MANUFACTURER TRIES TO COVER UP THE ABOVE DANGERS OF THE CAR WITH A LINE IN ITS OWNER'S MANUAL, PAGE 174. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT SUSPENSION BALL JOINTS FAILED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH. THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING, WOBBLING AND PULLING TO ONE SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED BOTH BALL JOINTS AND ARMS. THE FRONT SUSPENSION CONTINUED TO WOBBLE WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK AT THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND MORE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,925 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,210.
AT JUST OVER 50,000 MILES THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS WENT OUT ON MY 08 JEEP PATRIOT, NOW IN 2015 THIS PROBLEMS HAS SURFACED AGAIN THIS TIME IT IS THE CONTROL ARM AND THE OUTER TIE RODS. LOOKING THIS UP ON THE INTERNET THIS APPEARS TO BE A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THE JEEP PATRIOTS. WHERE MY WIFE WORKS THEY HAD A COUPLE OF THESE JEEPS THAT THEY USED AS COURTESY VEHICLES AND AFTER ONLY A COUPLE OR YEARS AND MINIMAL DRIVING AROUND A HOSPITAL CAMPUS THEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THEIRS. WHILE THERE WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT MY MECHANIC JUST CALLED AND SAID THIS WAS REALLY BAD AND COULD HAVE LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT IF WE HAD NOT BROUGHT IT IN WHEN WE DID. THESE VEHICLES SHOULD NOT BE FAILING LIKE THIS AND THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DESIGN PROBLEM AND MANY CUSTOMERS ARE BEING FORCED TO PAY FOR THEIR OWN REPAIRS. WHAT DOES IT TAKE BEFORE THESE ARE RECALLED? DOES IT TAKE SOMEONE GETTING SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT SPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH LOWER BALL JOINTS FAILED. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE LOWER BALL JOINTS BEGAN EXHIBITING A POPPING SOUND AND CAUSED THE ALIGNMENT TO WEAR THE TIRES PREMATURELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THAT THE LOWER BALLS JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2008 PATRIOT PURCHASED 03-10-08. WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY,I HEARD NOISES FROM THE FRONT END OF MY CAR. THEN I HAD A CALIPER LOCK UP ON MY BACK BRAKE AND I TOOK IT IN TO THE NEAREST MECHANIC. WHEN THE MECHANIC CHECKED OUT THE CAR THEY CALLED THE CAR DEALER BECAUSE I ONLY HAD 29,133 MILES ON THE CAR AND MY OUTSIDE FRONT CONTROL ARM BALL JOINTS WHERE WORN OUT. THE MECHANIC SAID THIS IS ABNORMAL AND WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE DEALER. THE DEALER SAID I WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY OF 3 YEARS 36,000 MILES. THE DATE OF THIS REPAIR WAS 4-23-11. A LITTLE OVER 1 MONTH OUT OF WARRANTY. THREE WEEKS LATER THE TIE ROD WENT BAD WHILE I WAS ON A TRIP. THE COST OF THESE TWO PROBLEMS WAS OVER $1,000 IN REPAIRS THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE WORN OUT WITH ONLY 29,000 MILES (THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE 2 TIRES I HAD TO REPLACE AND OTHER REPAIRS). THESE PARTS HAD TO HAVE BEEN BAD FOR A WHILE BEFORE I BECAME AWARE OF THE SERIOUS DANGER OF DRIVING WITH BAD BALL JOINTS AND TIE ROD. *TR

JUST BEGAN HAPPENING IN APRIL 2011. REAR CARGO LIGHT COLLECTING WATER AFTER HEAVY RAINS. TOOK IT TO ONE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE NOT SUCCESSFUL AT CORRECTING THE PROBLEM. TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WHERE THE ISSUE AS SO FAR BEEN CORRECTED. *TR
THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUED WITH THE 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. THESE VEHICLES HAVE A PROBLEM WITH BALL JOINTS AND ARMS BREAKING. WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT WITH THIS AUTO AND IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. WHEN I LOOKED INTO IT ONLINE I FOUND MANY BLOGS REGARDING THE 2008 JEEP PATRIOT WITH THIS PROBLEM. I THINK JEEP NEEDS TO STEP UP AND CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. I'VE NEVER HAD TO PUT MONEY INTO A 4 YEAR OLD CAR. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS FLIPPED THIRTEEN TIMES AS THE ENTIRE ROOF SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS REPORTED INURED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DECLARED DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A SALVAGE LOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ROOF SEPARATION WAS A SEVERE SAFETY RISK. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
LESS THAT 3 YRS OLD AND JUST OVER 44,000 MILES, MY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT'S FRONT BEARINGS & BALL JOINTS ARE BAD. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE HARD BY ANY MEANS, MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT I COULD LOOSE A WHEEL JUST BY HITTING ONE BAD POTHOLE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME & MY CHILDREN, ESPECIALLY SINCE WE TRAVEL AT OVER 55MPH MOST OF THE TIME. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT REAR WHEEL BEARING WAS CORRODED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,500.
THIS CAR FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING, AND STALLS ALL THE TIME WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. WE HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND RESTART THE CAR. THE 2009 MODEL HAS A RECALL THAT SAYS THE POWER TRAIN-AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE IS DEFECTIVE. WE FEEL LIKE THIS IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR VEHICLE AND IT'S A 2008. *TR

THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.

WHEN TURNING CORNERS, VEHICLE WILL DUMP WATER INSIDE FROM THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT, FRONT AND REAR. THIS CAUSES DRIVER TO BE DISTRACTED. BECAUSE OF THE WATER LEAKING INTO VEHICLE THE HEADLINER GROWS MOLD AND MILDEW. NOT ONLY IS THE MUSTY SMELL TERRIBLE IS CAUSES HEADACHES, SNEEZING, ITCHY WATERY EYES WITCH DISTRACT DRIVER. THE MOLD AND MILDEW CREATES A BIO-HAZARD TO INTO THAT HAS TO BE IN VEHICLE. CHRYSLER DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED REPAIR 11 TIMES BUT VEHICLE STILL LEAKS. UPON INVESTIGATING THIS MODEL OF JEEP APPARENTLY THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT WATER LEAKING INSIDE VEHICLE. WATER ALSO POURS DOWN ONTO THE ELECTRONICS INSIDE AND EVERYONE KNOWS WATER AND ELECTRONICS DON'T MIX.
I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN FOR NEW TIRES AT 51,000 MILES AND WAS ADVISED THAT MY 2 YEAR OLD JEEP HAD BALL JOINTS THAT ARE DANGEROUSLY WORN. THE SUNROOF HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPLACED BY THE DEALER AND I SUSPECT THEY HAD REMOVED THE SEAT BELT MOUNTING BOLT TO REMOVE HEADLINER, INSPECTION OF THE BOLT SHOW NO APPLICATION OF THREADLOCKER. I REINSTALLED THE BOLT WITH THREADLOCKER AND TORQUED AS PER SPEC FOR THE BOLT SIZE. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN STATED WATER HAD BUILT UP IN THE SIDE PANELS AND REAR CARGO AREA. THE WATER WAS DRAINED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY TEN DIFFERENT TIMES. THE CONTACT STATED THE MOISTURE IN THE VEHICLES COMPUTER WAS CAUSING ELECTRICAL FAILURES. WHILE PARKED, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN AFTER THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.

I HAVE A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. THE MAIN CONCERN I HAVE IS THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING VALVE IS DEFECTIVE. THE MAIN VALVE STEM IS MADE OUT OF ALUMINUM AND THEY ARE SNAPPING IN HALF RIGHT BELOW WHERE THE VALVE SCREWS IN ON THE STEM. THIS CAUSES A SUDDEN DECREASE OF AIR PRESSURE THAT WE ALMOST LOST THE CAR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION BY THE TIRE STORE WE HAVE ANOTHER TIRE STEM THAT IS READY TO BREAK ALSO. THE VALVE STEMS USED TO BE MADE OUT OF BRASS OR STEEL. AND IN THE COLORADO WEATHER WITH THE SEVERE COLD I THINK IT IS CRACKING THE ALUMINUM STEMS. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS DEFECT BUT SHOULDN'T BE TOO COSTLY TO REPAIR. IF NOT RECALLED THERE WILL BE ROLLOVERS AS THE TIRE PRESSURE GOES OUT VERY QUICKLY.
