TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE SLOWING THE VEHICLE DOWN OR COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO KEARNY MESA CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (8010 BALBOA AVE, SAN DIEGO, CA 92111, (858) 560-7100) AND SAN DIEGO CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (777 CAMINO DEL RIO S, SAN DIEGO, CA 92108, (619) 224-4151) TO BE INSPECTED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
JEEP PATRIOT (2008) LOWER BALL JOINTS FAILED ON BOTH SIDES. PROBLEM STARTED AT 37,000 MILES. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER, TOLD TO ROTATE TIRES (NO MENTION OF BALL JOINTS). FAILED INSPECTION 3 MONTHS LATER DUE TO BALL JOINTS AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS. COST TO REPAIR OVER $1,000. CAR MUST BE FIXED, BUT JEEP DOES NOT INSURE THAT THE PART WILL NOT FAIL AGAIN. 2008 JEEP PATRIOT 5-SPEED MANUAL GEARBOX JUMPS OUT OF FIRST GEAR. DIFFICULT TO ENGAGE REVERSE GEAR. FIRST GEAR IS RANDOM, BUT IN THE LAST WEEK HAPPENED THREE TIMES, TWO TIMES, ABOUT 5KM APART. REVERSE GEAR IS ALWAYS DIFFICULT TO ENGAGE. THE DEALERSHIP JUST STATED NFF (NO FAULT FOUND). *TR
2008 JEEP PATRIOT 5 SPEED MANUALS ARE HAVING CLUTCH RELATED ISSUES CAUSED MY CLUTCH MASTER OR SLAVE CYLNDER FAILURES. THE VEHICLE SUDDNELY STOPS OR NOT ABLE TO CHANGE GEAR WHILE DRIVING. I WAS LUCKY THAT I HAD THAT HAPPEN WHILE I WAS IN MY PARKING. THE CLUTCH RESERVOR IS SHARED WITH BRAKE AND CLUTCH. THERE ARE SO MANY 2008 PATRIOT OWNERS WHO ARE HAVING SAME PROBLEMS. IN ADDITION, WHEN EITHER CLUTCH OR BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FAILS, BRAKE FAILS TOO. I HAD TWO ACCIDENTES EARLIER WHEN BRAKES DIDN'T WORK. I TOOK MY 2008 PATROT TO DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSIDER AS WEAR-TEAR ITEM, BUT IS IS NOT. THE CLUTCH PLATE IS WEAR-TEAR NOT A CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER. CHRYSLER JEEP DEALERS ARE CHEATING CONSUMERS BY NOT HONORING LIFETIME POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. PLEASE READ THIS JEEP PATRIOT FORUM TO FIND SO MANY LIKE ME HAVING SAME ISSUES. I HAVE A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT WITH APPROXIMATELY 80,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 3 CONTROL ARMS SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 3 YEARS AGO. MOST OF THE MILEAGE ON MY VEHICLE IS HIGHWAY DRIVING AND I DO NOT SUBJECT THE VEHICLE TO HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. I FIND IT ALARMING THAT I'VE REPLACE 3 OF THE SAME COMPONENT AND SUSPICIOUS THAT THERE IS A RECENT RECALL ON CONTROL ARMS ON THE LIBERTY MODEL. BESIDES THE MONETARY INCONVENIENCE, I HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN AND AM QUITE CONCERNED THAT A COMPONENT THAT CAN AFFECT THE ABILITY TO STEER THE VEHICLE CONTINUALLY MALFUNCTIONS. *TR
I WENT TO GET MY CAR REPAIRED AND THEY GAVE ME THIS SERVICE BULLETIN 08-007-08 FOR A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT CALLED JEEP THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE STARTER THEM WE CALLED A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP THEY GAVE ME THIS BULLETIN. *TR
DASH LIGHTS -- 4WD, ABS, ESP AND BAS LIGHTS, SKIDDING CAR ICON -- ALL COME ON AT SAME TIME ACCOMPANIED BY WARNING CHIME WHILE BRAKING AND TURNING A CORNER AT LOW SPEED, APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. ENGINE STALLS, LOSS OF POWER BRAKES, POWER STEERING ETC., CAR STALLS IN MIDDLE OF ROAD NEAR INTERSECTION ' SAFETY HAZARD. WILL NOT RESTART ON FIRST TRY (NOTHING HAPPENS WHEN I TURN THE KEY). STARTS ON SECOND TRY, THEN DIES. FINALLY STARTS AND REMAINS RUNNING ON THIRD TRY. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY HAD VEHICLE TO AUTHORIZED JEEP DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT GARAGE. MY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP A COLLECTIVE 18 TIMES OVER 87 DAYS. IT IS CURRENTLY STILL IN THE SHOP SINCE LAST WEEK. I HAVE HAD IT IN 9 TIMES FOR THE SUNROOF LEAKING AND 7 TIMES TO REPLACE ELECTRICAL ITEMS THAT SHORTED OUT BECAUSE OF THE LEAKING SUNROOF. IT FIRST STARTED TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM AFTER 3 MONTHS 8/2008 AND 2700 MILES. I AM TRIED OF THE DEALERSHIP ASKING TO GIVE THEM ONE MORE TRY FOR THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF. THEY KEEP BLOWING ME OFF. AS OF 1/29/10 IT BACK IN THE SHOP AGAIN FOR A LEAKING SUNROOF. I TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP AND HE STATED THAT THEY HAVE TRIED AND REPLACED EVERYTHING IN THE SUNROOF ASSEMBLY AND IT STILL LEAKS AND IS RUINING MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, MY LEATHER SEATS AND CARPETING. I DO NOT WANT THIS VEHICLE TO HAVE AND ELECTRICAL FIRE DOWN THE ROAD WITH ALL THE ISSUES IT IS CONTINUING TO HAVE. PLEASE HELP! *TR
ON MY 2008 JEEP PATRTIOT, ON BRAKING, USUALLY WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, MOST OF THE DASH LIGHTS, INCLUDING 4WD, ABS AND ESP, COME ON BRIEFLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS, BEGINNING AT ABOUT 35,000 MILES. USUALLY, THE ONLY SYMPTOM OF THE PROBLEM IS THE DASH LIGHTS COME ON ACCOMPANIED BY A WARNING CHIME, BUT THE ENGINE REMAINS RUNNING. RECENTLY, HOWEVER, IT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY, AND EVEN MORE WORRISOME, IS THE FACT THAT THE ENGINE SOMETIMES DIES WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS MORNING, THE LIGHTS CAME ON, THE WARNING CHIME SOUNDED AND THE ENGINE DIED WHEN I WAS TURNING A CORNER, CAUSING ME TO LOSE FORWARD PROGRESS, POWER STEERING, ETC. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TO A JEEP DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT GARAGE, AND NEITHER HAS BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR FIX THE PROBLEM.*CW
ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL FAILURE. WHILE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 8 IN ARIZONA WARNING LIGHT CAME ON RESULTING IN ENGINE RUNNING ROUGH AND BRAKES NOT OPERATING CORRECTLY. WHEN TAKEN TO DEALER IN YUMA, ARIZ (FISHER JEEP) I WAS TOLD TO SHUT IT OFF AND SEE IF IT WOULD RESET ON IT'S OWN. THIS SEEMED TO WORK, BUT I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO WAY TO CHECK THIS UNLESS IT FAILED COMPLETELY. I CONTACTED THE MFGR AND THEY CONFIRMED WHAT THE DEALER SAID. THEY ALSO SAID THIS ITEM (ETC) IS ONLY COVERED FOR 3 YEARS UNDER WARRANTY. SINCE I ONLY HAVE A FEW MONTHS LEFT I AM AFRAID THIS WILL FAIL AND LEAVE ME WITH A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR BILL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. WHEN GASOLINE WAS ADDED TO THE VEHICLE, THE FUEL GAUGE READ FULL AND WITHIN A FEW MINUTES IT DISPLAYED AN EMPTY READING. HE EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE FOR MORE THAN EIGHT MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNTIL THEY RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED REPORT 19667705. THEY ADVISED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
WATER LEAK, REAR DOME LIGHT, REAR DOME LIGHT FILLS UP WITH WATER THAN LEAKS INTO SPARE TIRE WHEEL WELL. FEAR SHORT WILL OCCUR IN LIGHT. LEAKS EVERY TIME IT RAINS OR GO THROUGH A CAR WASH. I SAW WATER IN THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE FROM ALMOST FIRST DAY I BOUGHT IT, BUT THOUGHT IT CAME FROM REAR HATCH WHEN I OPENED IT. BUT ONE DAY I SAW WATER DRIPPING FROM THE REAR DOME LIGHT. MY 08 PATRIOT IS AT THE DEALERS NOW AND HAS BEEN THERE FOR TWO WEEKS. THIS IS THE FIFTH TIME AT THE DEALERS. DEALER HAS NO IDEA WHERE IT LEAKS. THEY EVEN TOOK IT TO A BODY SHOP. THE DEALER SAID THEY CAN MAKE IT LEAK BUT DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CHRYSLER . STILL WAITING AND TRYING TO GET THEM TO BUY IT BACK SINCE IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I AM PASSED THE LEMON LAW DATE IN VA. ANYTHING OLDER THAN 18 MONTHS IS TO LATE TO FILE A LEMON LAW CLAIM. *TW
SENTRY KEY RECEIVER FAILED IN STEERING COLUMN. THERE IS NO WAY TO START ENGINE WHEN COMPONENT FAILS, VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED FOR REPAIR. FULL REPAIR AND TOW COVERED BY WARRANTY, HOWEVER THIS RUNS OUT AT 36K MILES. AFTER THAT CONSUMER WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR TOW COSTS AND REPLACEMENT OF FAULTY PART, WHICH IS NOT A COMPONENT SUBJECT TO WEAR AND TEAR OF USE. *TR
IN OCTOBER OF 2009, I NOTICED AN ODD CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE AREA OF MY TIRES. THE JEEP STARTED TO MAKE LOUDER CRANKING SOUNDS AND GRADUALLY BECAME MORE AND MORE DIFFICULT TO STEER. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP TO INVESTIGATE THE SOUND. I DIDN'T FEEL SAFE OR COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE JEEP IN THIS CONDITION. UPON TAKING THE JEEP TO BOB BOYD, A CERTIFIED JEEP DEALER IN LANCASTER, OHIO, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE AXLE NUT RETAINER WAS RUSTED AWAY. THE RUST WAS CLEANED FROM THE AXLE AND THE NUT, PER THE SERVICE REPORT, AND THE AXLE NUT WAS RETORQUED. THE CHARGE OF THIS "REPAIR" WAS $157.47, WITH NO OTHER REPAIRS BEING MADE. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I HAD NOT BROUGHT THE JEEP IN AT THE TIME I DID, THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE AXLE NUT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE TIE RODS AND WHEELS TO COME APART FROM MY VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. AT THAT POINT, THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE GONE. MY HUSBAND ASKED IF THIS COULD CAUSE ANY OTHER TYPES OF PROBLEMS IN THE FUTURE WITH MY STEERING AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY AND HE WAS TOLD THAT THERE WOULD BE NO PROBLEM. IN AUGUST OF 2010, I WAS RECOMMENDED TO HAVE MY TIE RODS REPLACED, AS THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM MY TIRES AGAIN. UPON HAVING MY CAR TAKEN TO BOB BOYD AGAIN, I WAS TOLD THAT MY LOWER CONTROL ARM AND BALL JOINT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WITH AN ALIGNMENT, THE TOTAL COST WAS $694.60 FOR THIS VISIT. I UNDERSTAND THAT TIE RODS ARE A WEAR AND TEAR ITEM, HOWEVER, I THINK THAT THE RUSTED AXLE ROD IS A SAFETY ISSUE ON A VEHICLE THAT WAS JUST OVER A YEAR OLD AT THE TIME IT WAS FOUND. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM, AS A RUSTED OUT PART THAT COULD CAUSE A VEHICLE TO "COME APART WHILE DRIVING" SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE. THANK YOU. *TR
2008 JEEP PATRIOT LEAKING MOON/SUN ROOF - LEAKS OF WATER FROM RAIN OR CONDENSATION FROM MAP/DOME LIGHTS CAUSING A FIRE HAZARD. WATER LEAKS AND POURS FROM FRONT DOME LIGHT ONTO DASH AND RADIO. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 JEEP PATRIOT, MY JEEP STARTED LEAKING FROM THE MAP LIGHT, DOME LIGHT AND CARGO LIGHT THE WATER RAN INTO MY A/C UNIT AND MY CD CHANGER, GEAR SHIFT, GLOVE COMPARTMENT AND ALL OVER MY CARPET AND SEATS, IN SEPT. OF 2009 AFTER A HEAVY RAIN WE WERE IN A DROUGHT UNTIL THEN. I GOT THE CAR BACK AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE LEAK WAS FIXED, THEY SAID THEY HAD TO CONNECT THE DRAIN TUBES. ONCE I GOT MY CAR BACK I NOTICED AFTER ANOTHER RAIN I HAD WATER STANDING IN MY TIRE WELL ONCE AGAIN, AFTER THE LAST LEAK MY CAR STARTED STALLING ON TAKE OFF. I WAS ENTERING ONTO A VERY BUSY STREET AND IT STALLED AS I WAS PULLING OUT AND ALMOST GOT HIT BY A DUMP TRUCK. I ONCE AGAIN TOOK THE JEEP BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT FIXED, THEY REPLACED THE SUN ROOF SEAL AND THE SEALS AROUND THE HATCHED, THEY SAID IT WAS FIXED. AFTER ANOTHER RAIN I NOTICED MY JEEP IS LEAKING AGAIN, WHEN I TURNED ON THE A/C WATER STARTED COMING OUT OF THE DEFROST VENT AND MY CARPET WAS WET, AND A STRONG SMELL OF MOLD COMING OUT MY VENTS WITH THE AIR. I TOOK IT BACK INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE LEAK,AND THE WATER AND SMELL OF MOLD COMING OUT OF MY A/C VENTS. I LOOKED OVER THE CAR WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND WE NOTICED BLACK MOLD GROWING IN THE HEAD LINER SHE ALSO WAS ABLE TO SMELL THE MOLD COMING OUT OF MY A/C UNIT. I ALSO NOTICED THAT MY CAR WAS CUTTING OUT AGAIN WHILE DRIVING. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT A FIRE OR SOME OTHER MAJOR ELECTRICAL PART GOING OUT DUE TO THE WATER LEAKS THAT HAVE OCCURED. I AM ALSO WORRIED ABOUT SAFETY ISSUES CONCERNING THE CAR STALLING; AND AM WORRIED IT IS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR HEALTH ISSUES DUE TO THE BLACK MOLD. *TR
DURING HEAVY RAIN WATER ENTERS THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE ROOF CAUSING LEAKAGE TO OCCUR THROUGH THE MAPLIGHTS AND FRONT PILLARS. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN TO THE SHOP THREE TIMES - THE DEALER HAS "SEALED A BODY SEAM", "RESEATED THE WINDSHIELD" AND "COULD NOT DUPLICATE" THE LEAK HOWEVER, WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT IN, WATER WAS DRIPPING AND THEY DID ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT WAS DUE TO SOME KIND OF LEAK. AFTER A LENGTHY TALK TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AFTER THE THIRD VISIT, HE INDICATED THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE BUT FOUND A "TECH TIP" INDICATING THAT THE ROOF DID LEAK. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET, IT CERTAINLY SEEMS THAT I AM NOT ALONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR
SUNROOF LEAKS; DURING A CAR WASH OR A SIMPLE RAIN. WE HAVE HAD THE JEEP TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS TO BE FIXED. FUNNY, THERE IS NO RECORD OF THEM FIXING THE PROBLEM, WHICH IS OBVIOUS SINCE IT'S STILL LEAKING. EACH TIME WE TOOK THE JEEP TO BE "FIXED" IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. NOW THAT IT'S NOT UNDER WARRANTY, IT'S LIKE PULLING NAILS JUST TO GET CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE TO CALL BACK AND OR EVEN ATTEMPT TO HELP. MY HUSBAND IS CONVINCED THAT SINCE THERE IS NO FIX TO THE LEAKING PROBLEM, THEY JUST "ATTEMPTED" TO REPAIR IT TO GET IT OUT OF WARRANTY. WELL, WE ARE NOT DONE YET!!!! *TR

VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY STALLS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, NO MIL OR CODES BEING STORED. VEHICLE COMPLAINT MIRRORS ISSUE LISTED BELOW NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V291000 NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE07027 SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT FOR ISSUE AGAIN APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH AGO, AT TIME OF DROP OFF VEHICLE WAS RUNNING FINE. I WAS INSTRUCTED BY THE SERVICE WRITER TO TRY A HIGHER QUALITY OF FUEL SUCH AS CHEVRON OR SHELL, I HAD BEEN USING COSTCO. AFTER THE 3RD FILL-UP OF CHEVRON FUEL THE VEHICLE BEGAN STALLING AGAIN. I INFORMED THE DEALER THAT I WANT TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW DAYS TO ALLOW A TECH TO DRIVE HOME IN HOPES THAT THEY WITNESS THE ISSUE. WHILE TRAVELING ON 07/05/09 I ATTEMPTED TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE ON A 2 LANE ROAD, APPROXIMATELY 1/2 TO 3/4 THROUGH PASSING THE SLOWER VEHICLE MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO STUTTER/STALL, I HAD TO SLOW ABRUPTLY AND PULL BACK INTO THE LANE BEHIND THE SLOWER VEHICLE IN ORDER TO AVOID A HEAD ON COLLISION WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. MY WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE THREAT OF AN ACCIDENT. IF THE DEALER IS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR THE ISSUE ON THIS ATTEMPT I WILL HAVE TO START A LEMON LAW CLAIM. *TR
THERE IS A WATER LEAK COMING FROM THE ROOF AREA AFTER A RAIN WITH VEHICLE PARKED OUTSIDE. MOST OF IT IS COMING DOWN NEAR THE DOME LIGHTS UPON STOPPING FROM FORWARD MOTION. IT CAUSES WATER TO GO INTO THE DASH AND ELECTRONICS PANEL AND ONTO DRIVER AND FRONT SEAT PASSENGER. SUNROOF SEAL WAS REPLACED BY DEALER WITH NO RESULT. I RETURNED IT TO DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND REPAIR. MAJOR HIDDEN WATER DAMAGE SUSPECTED. DEALER SAYS THEY CANNOT GET MFG INVOLVED AT THIS TIME. I REQUESTED A REPLACEMENT AND WAS TOLD IT COULD NOT BE DONE WITHOUT A TRADE UP FOR MORE MONEY. *TR
ANY TIME I TAKE A LONG TRIP (1HR +) OR I'M IN HEAVY TRAFFIC MY TRANSMISSION LIGHT COMES ON ACCOMPANIED WITH A WHINING NOISE AND LOSS OF POWER. I LIVE IN PHOENIX, ARIZONA, SO TEMPS IN THE SUMMER ARE EXTREMELY HIGH. MY WIFE WAS HEADING TO FLAGSTAFF ONE DAY IN MID AUGUST SHE LOST POWER TO OUR PATRIOT AND COULDN'T GO OVER 40MPH.
