NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2009 Jeep Patriot. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Engine stalls only after filling up gas, resulting in check engine light or oil light turning on. I have taken it to numerous mechanics, who have all given me different answers, with anywhere from issues with EVAP hoses and fuel tank, to the fuel pump, or purge system. Problem was never addressed or mentioned when bought from dealership in June 2025 but noticed immediately after filling up gas for the first time since purchase of the car and problem occurs continuously after filling up gas. Not sure if related either, but if gas tank is overfilled at all in the slightest, it leaks out the bottom immediately.
I am submitting this complaint regarding the CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) failure in our Jeep vehicle. We have experienced intermittent transmission issues throughout our entire period of ownership. The CVT has now completely failed—the vehicle will not shift out of low gear. The RPMs surge rapidly, and although the vehicle will move at very low speeds if you ease off the accelerator, it will not reach normal driving speeds, making it unsafe and unusable for daily travel. The check engine light is on, and diagnostic codes confirm a CVT-related issue. The vehicle originally came with a lifetime powertrain warranty. We complied with the required inspection and maintenance schedule, except for the most recent inspection, which we missed due to a personal hardship. Jeep initially sent reminders for these inspections but eventually stopped, and we received no notice of the upcoming deadline. The vehicle has been regularly maintained by a trusted local repair shop. Despite this, it is now undriveable. From both our personal experience and broader consumer reports, it’s clear that these types of CVT failures are common among Jeep vehicles. Jeep has refused to honor the warranty, stating it could only be reinstated if we paid for the repairs ourselves within a specific timeframe—which has now passed. This policy places an unreasonable burden on the consumer, especially for a known and recurring mechanical issue. We believe Jeep is failing to take responsibility for a serious safety and performance defect. I respectfully ask the NHTSA to investigate this matter further and evaluate whether broader action—such as a recall—is warranted.
My whole front end of my jeep when I stop feels like it's coming out from underneath me
Changed catalytic converter now my car want go over 5 mph
After refueling the vehicle at a gas station, I drive about a 1/4 of a mile and the engine will stall and die. It will immediately restart and when I step on the gas pedal the engine has no power and will stall again. I will start it a third time and then it will run ok until I need to fill-up again. I think this is a safety hazard because I stand a good chance of getting rear ended being stuck in traffic. I have read many articles about people having the same problem. Seems the fix is replacing the gas tank which costs about $1500.00. Please make the responsible party face this serious safety issue.
Faulty gas tank. Doesn’t fill and gas shoots out during the fill process.
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the rear end of the vehicle was swaying from side to side. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to a tire repair shop for alignment and tire rotation services; however, the contact was informed that the services could not be performed because the rear crossmember was severely corroded and fractured, which caused damages to the rear tires. Additionally, the mechanic informed the contact that the front crossmember was corroded. The vehicle was towed to the residence of the contact's mother. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under TSB Number: 23-007-17 REV.B, because the TSB had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 230,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Subframe front and rear are completely rusted out and unsafe to drive
Vehicle's CVT transmission will overheat and cause the speed of the vehicle to slow down, unable to speed back up, and the acceleration to be extremely slow, if at all. This can cause the vehicle to decelerate rapidly, and unexpectedly on the highway (or generally any speed, for that matter) which can cause an accident at high speeds, all in which the driver had no control over how the vehicle behaved due to the transmission behaving erratically on it's own. I have researched and down that this is a common issue that Jeep/Chrysler knew of, and 1000's of Jeep Patriot owners/owners of vehicles with CVT transmissions have experienced.
front and rear crossmember assembly rusted through car available. acknowledged history on this and related models of Chrysler products resulting in a additional 10 yr warrantee on these components which was not communicated to original owners and has now expired. vehicle has the potential to lose driver control and cause injury or death. no warning but rust has been visible for years but consumers not advised of extended warrantee. now cost of repair exceeds book value. Jeep disavows any responsibility for this defect in materials after the warrantee's expiration.
I report reveral times issuess with my gear box, but each time they said the car is fine. The problems start after the car was serviced years ago to Jeep Desources rep (3400 Sources Blvd, Dollard-des-Ormeaux QC H9B 1Z9, Canada) but the issues become worst in time. It started to not be able to drive in authomatic mode but ok in manual and they told me that forgot to tide a transmition cable and now when I am reporting the issue, I cannot drive and any mode (authomatic or manual) and base on service department, nothing is wrong with the car. what they are waiting, to have an accident or die? Since I bought the car, all the maintenace of it was not as supposed as per maintenance manual of the car – to give an example, oil change it’s come on after 3000km no matter where i drive (city or highway) and the blain me for driving the car. With all respect, every time i made compline i felt no one offer me the correct attention and the issue with the gear box for me is abouve the accepted limit.
We bought this car in March of 22 for our daughter. She used to drive back and forth between Mankato, MN and Coralville, IA. Every time she has driven it, the overheating light has come on and the car slows down below 50 mph. We have taken it to the mechanic, who we bought it from, three times for repairs. Every time we think it is done, the same thing happens. She has also had two different mechanics look at in Mankato. On Friday, September 2, 2022, after only driving an hour, the overheat light came on the car slowed to below 50 mph. She said there was a semi behind her that almost rear-ended her when this happened. I believe there is a danger with this car. I have read a lot complaints, on different online forums, that this year and model of Jeep has a problem with its CVT-continuously variable transmission. https://repairpal.com/cvt-transmission-543 "Problem Description There have been numerous complaints of early transmission failure, even with with normal servicing. Issues start with a whining noise, overheat warnings, and an inability to accelerate. The most common solution is replacement of the transmission. Late 2014 model year Patriots changed to a non-CVT transmission. 891 people reported this problem 244 comments Jeep Patriot Vehicles With This Problem 11 model years affected 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, view all Average mileage: 94,755 (1,700–1,000,000)
Vehicle started making a metal rub noise. Took to mechanic. K frame front drivers side is completely broken in two. Engine could have broken thru and caused a crash. No warning lights
Air conditioner drain drips directly on subframe cross brace for front cradle, erosion and road grim along with neverending dripping water even from using defrost leads to rust and cross brace breaking into and well you can use your imagination for what happens next. Drain needs extended and re routed because I know I can't be the only one with this problem.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was parked and remained at the residence unrepaired. Neither the manufacturer nor the dealer had been made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000.
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that the vehicle front subframe was corroded. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the front subframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that in July 2022, the vehicle was taken to a tire shop and the contact was informed that the rear subframe was corroded. The failure mileage was approximately 141,000.
Car shuts off after fueling. Is a common problem with other Jeep owners found on Google. My mechanic actually found the articles. Apparently it is a Rollover valve issue. Like others have suggested, not to fill the fuel tank full unless you want to pay over $1000 for a new gas tank. I don't want to drive in fear this car is going to keep shutting off. Why hasn't this been fixed when so many others have had the same issue?
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle started to hesitate and jerk. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park on the side of the road and waited for an hour before continuing to drive to her residence. The contact stated she experience the failure for a second time and had the vehicle towed to her residence. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V528000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.
After fueling the vehicle completely, the engine stalls multiple times while in motion. This happens for a few miles and re-starts before running normal again. When the engine stalls, the vehicle cannot accelerate and power-steering is not operable. The vehicle's engine has stalled when entering a highway and turning with cross-traffic. I fear myself and passengers will be struck by a moving vehicle with no control of the subject vehicle. A local mechanic stated the entire gas tank needs replaced but cannot confirm it will correct the defect. There is no warning when the engine stalls. This is my second complaint after years of no response. These events are ongoing.
The contact's daughter-in-law owns a 2009 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that while he was replacing the brakes and control arms on the vehicle, he noticed that both the front and rear sub frame of the vehicle were severely corroded. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear and front subframe of the vehicle was severely corroded and needed to be replaced. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
After refueling car stalls when this happens loss of power steering brakes etc Dangerous entering busy roads from gas stations Been happening consistently, many other owners report same problem across multyears of manufacture.
FRAME ROTTED OUT ON THIS VEHICLE AND , ACCORDING TO INSPECTION SERVICE GARAGE, MANY JEEP PATRIOTS. JEEP COMPASS HAS A RECALL ON THE FRAMES .
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently started to decelerate. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to park on the side of the road and after restarting the vehicle, he drove to his residence. The contact took the vehicle to three different independent mechanics who failed to service the vehicle due to a recall associated with the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure due to the vehicle being over 10 years old. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V528000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer has been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
VEHICLE ENGINE CUTS OUT WITHOUT WARNING AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK THE LAST 5 FILL-UPS. GAS TANK IS NOT BEING OVERFILLED. USUALLY HAPPENS WITHIN THE FIRST 1/2 MILE AFTER LEAVING THE GAS STATION. HAPPENED RECENTLY AS I WAS PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC FROM THE GAS STATION ON A BUSY STREET. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART WITHOUT INCIDENT. DEFINITE SAFETY CONCERN THAT IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON WWW.JEEPPATRIOT.COM
LEFT SIDE OF FRONT FRAME HAS LARGE RUST HOLE AND IS BADLY RUSTED. RIGHT SIDE IS BADLY RUSTED BUT NO HOLE.
TAKES ABOUT 15 MINUTES OR MORE TO PUT GAS IN MY GAS TANK. ON THE INTERNET SEARCH IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM THAT A LOT OF JEEP PATRIOT'S HAVE. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ THE CAUSE IS A ROLL OVER VALVE WHICH IS PLASTIC AND LOCATED IN THE TANK ITSELF. THAT THE ONLY WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM IS TO GET A NEW TANK PUT IN. I FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD A RECALL ON THIS AND SHOULD HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM.ON THE INTERNET VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM RANGING FROM 2007-2015. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I TRY TO PUT GAS IN MY CAR.
THE REAR SUSPENSION CROSMEMBER CORRODED AND SNAPPED IN HALF. THERE WAS A 10YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I APPARENTLY MISSED BY A FEW MONTHS. THIS IS SUPER DANGEROUS. IT CAUSED THE TIRE TO POP WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM IT RUBBING AND THEN I VEERED OFF THE ROAD. THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER IS ALSO IN SIMILAR CONDITION. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ASAP. IT IS NOW STATIONARY AND IMMOBILE BECAUSE OF THE SITUATION. IT WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON A CITY STREET. IT CAUSED ME TO NEED A TOW.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS THE TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. ONCE THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE CONTACT PULLED OVER, WAITED FOR A FEW MINUTES, AND THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND RESUMED NORMAL DRIVING. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FAILURE WAS LINKED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V528000 (POWER TRAIN) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. ILDERTON CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (701 S MAIN ST, HIGH POINT, NC 27260) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE DEALER REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA FOR ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
LOUD CLUNKING NOISE FROM LEFT FRONT WHEEL AREA WHILE DRIVING AND MAKING TURNS.. VISUAL INSPECTION REVEALED CROSSMEMBER SERIOUSLY RUSTED AND CORRODED AT UPPER CONTROL ARM AREA. SEVERAL MAJOR CRACKS IN SUBFRAME DUE TO RUST THROUGH COMPROMISING VEHICLE STABILITY. COMPLAINTS MADE TO CHRYSLER AND THE DEALERSHIP WITH NO RESOLUTION. CHRYSLER WAS WELL AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND PUT OUT A SERVICE BULLETIN PERTAINING TO THE PROBLEM.SERVICE BULLETIN 23-007-17 REV B. EXTENDING WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR ONLY 10 YEARS. I BELIEVE CHRYSLER DELIBERATELY PUT A 10 YEAR CAP ON THESE PARTS TO LIMIT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE THEY WERE WELL AWARE OF THE SEVERE RUSTING ISSUE AND KNEW OTHER VEHICLES WOULD SOON BE EFFECTED. I 'AM NOW FACING A REPAIR BILL OF OVER $1000.00 AND THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING ELSE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF THIS PARTS FAILURE.
JEEP STUTTERS AND STALLS OUT IMMEDIATELY UPON FILLING TANK WITH GAS, ALMOST GOT HIT MANY TIMES PULLING OUT OF GAS STATION, THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED, IT IS DEADLY AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE ON VARIOUS FORUMS HAVE REPORTED SAME PROBLEM. NHTSA NEEDS TO STOP OVERLOOKING THIS ISSUE. IT IS A COMMON VEHICLE STILL ON THE ROAD TODAY AND I HAVE NO PLANS TO GET RID OF THE CAR FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER 5 YEARS MINIMUM. RECALL THIS ISSUE, IT IS DEADLY AND DANGEROUS AND I WILL NOT BE A STATISTIC.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL CLUNKING SOUND COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT SAW THAT A PIECE OF THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS MISSING DUE TO CORROSION ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CORROSION HAD SPREAD TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE CONTROL ARM. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNDRIVEABLE AND REMAINED UNREPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 140,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
EVERY TIME I FILL UP GAS TANK CAR WONT START IMMEDIATELY AND WHEN I FINALLY GET IT TO START IT TURNS OFF AGAIN WHEN I DRIVE OFF OR AT FIRST STOP I MAKE. PROBLEM SEEMS TO ONLY OCCUR WHEN GAS TANK IS COMPLETELY FULL.
IT HAS BEEN MAKING A CRACKING/CLUNKING NOISE THERE FOR YEARS. MY WIFE COMPLAINED OF IT SOUNDING LOUDER THAN NORMAL, SO I LOOKED AT IT CLOSER AND NOTICED THE CROSSMEMBER WAS BROKEN. I'VE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THAT SIDE FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND HAVE REPLACED BROKEN BALL JOINTS AND CONTROL ARMS. I FOUND OUT LAST NIGHT THAT THIS WOULD'VE BEEN A WARRANTY ITEM HAD I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN 6 MONTHS AGO, BUT AM BEING TOLD THAT I BROUGHT IT IN TOO LATE. MY REPLY WAS I DIDN'T KNOW THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE AND WASN'T NOTIFIED THAT THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PLACED ON THAT PART. *TR
ABS MODULE CONTROL IS NOT FUNCTIONING. THEREFORE I NO LONGER HAVE ACCESS TO MY ABS BRAKES.
I WAS IN MOTION AND THE TRANS TEMP LIGHT LIGHT UP AND MY CAR BEGAN TO STALE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I WAS TRAVELING ALONE AND 4 HOURS AWAY . THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS. I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY A PASSING TRUCK. LUCKILY, I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE AND WAS ABLE TO PARK ON THE SHOULDER. I HAD TO SEARCH MY SAFETY MANUAL TO UNDERSTAND WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I HAD TO WAIT OVER 30 MINS FOR THE LIGHT TO DISENGAGE AND DRIVE 55 ON THE HIGHWAY. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND THERE WAS NO SIGNS. I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH AND REALIZED THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE JEEP PATRIOTS. I HAVE HEARD HORROR STORIES OF FAMILIES WITH LITTLE KIDS BEING STRANDED. PLEASE PROVIDE SOME SORT OF RESOLUTION TO THIS EVENTUALLY COSTLY ISSUE.
I HAD AN INSPECTION DONE AND WAS TOLD MY JEEP IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE! THE SUBFRAME AND CROSSMEMBER IS TRASH AND COULD CAUSE AN IMMEDIATE ACCIDENT AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT. I WENT TO CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME MY WARRANTY EXPIRED IN JUNE 2019 A FEW MONTHS AGO. PLEASE RECALL THIS SO IT CAN BE FIXED AND LIVES ARE NOT AT STAKE.
12/12/19 TRIED TO GET ON I-295 ALL LIGHTS ON DASH CAME ON INCLUDING MALFUNCTION INDICATOR, ESP BAS, AND OTHERS ALL CAME ON WHEN NO LIGHTS WERE ON BEFORE. LOST POWER TO JEEP ON 295 COULD NOT GO ANY FAST THEN 25 MPH AND THEN STALLED; ALMOST REAR ENDED. COULD RESTART JEEP, ALL DASH LIGHTS STILL ON, NO POWER PAST 25 MPH AND MADE IT OFF AN OFF RAMP WHERE STALLED AGAIN. TOWED JEEP TO MECHANIC WHERE THEY REPLACED PCM, INTAKE MANIFOLD, AND O2 CENSOR. CALLED JEEP BECAUSE THERE IS A RECALL TO PCM AND WAS TOLD MY VIN NOT INCLUDED. 12/26/2019 ON I-295 GOING 70MPH AND JEEP LOST ALL POWER WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS THIS TIME AND HAD NO ACCELERATION. WAS IN THE FAR LEFT LANE AND HAD NEAR MISS OF BEING REAR ENDED BY TRACTOR TRAILER. VEERED JEEP TO BREAKDOWN LANE AND TOWED TO MECHANIC. SECOND MECHANIC REPAIRED GROUND AT G104 ON RIGHT SIDE OF ENGINE BAY SAID IS REASON FOR SEVERAL COMPUTERISED CONTROLS. 1/7/2020 PUT FULL TANK OF GAS IN VEHICLE AND PULLED INTO INTERSECTION AND JEEP BUCKED AND STALLED OUT. CALLED MECHANIC SAID POSSIBLE FUEL SENSOR PROBLEM. JEEP PATRIOTS HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH PCM AND FUEL PROBLEMS BUT AM TOLD MY 2009 JEEP NOT A PART OF THIS RECALL. JEEP IS STILL NOT RUNNING PROPERLY AND WILL NOT DRIVE ON HIGHWAY. VERY DANGEROUS AND VERY EXPANSIVE.
WHEN I TRY TO FILL THE GAS TANK THE FUEL WILL GUSH BACK OUT TOWARDS ME. THE ONLY WAY THAT I CAN GET GAS INTO THE TANK IS TO GENTLY LET IT TRICKLE IN WHICH TAKES FOR EVER. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT A VENT INSIDE THE GAS TANK IS FAULTY AND CANNOT BE REPAIRED. THE FIX IS A NEW GAS TANK AND ABOUT $800.00 AFTER DOING RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEPS. SEEMS TO ME THAT HAVING GASOLINE FLUSH BACK ON YOU IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. IF YOU DON'T KNOW THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN THE GASOLINE GUSHES OUT FASTER THAN THE PUMP NOZZLE HAS A CHANCE TO SHUT IT OFF. IF THIS IS SO COMMON WHY HASN'T IT BEEN ADDRESSED? I DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF PROOF THAT I CAN SEND YOU OTHER THAN A VIDEO WHICH I'M WILLING TO DO BUT HOW DO I SEND IT? ENGINE IS OFF NOT RUNNING SITTING AT A GAS PUMP.
THE REAR SUSPENSION CROSSMEMBER HAS RUSTED OUT AND FAILED ON THIS VEHICLE. THERE ARE PERFORATED HOLES IN THE SUBFRAME AND RUST ALL OVER THIS PART. THE UNDERSIDE OF THE UNIBODY IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS USE OF SUBSTANDARD STEEL OR METAL COATINGS FOR THE PART WHICH LED TO ITS FAILURE JEEP NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR USING SUBSTANDARD STEEL IN ITS PRODUCTION WHICH CREATE A HAZARD TO EVERYONE ON THE ROADWAYS. IF THIS WAS A TOYOTA, THEY WOULD REPLACE IT NO QUESTIONS ASKED EVEN IF IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE WASNT AN NHTSA RECALL ISSUED.
VEHICLE OVERHEATS IN HOT WEATHER WHEN DRIVING FOR GREATER THAN 30 MINUTES. IT IS NOT THE RADIATOR BUT THE TRANSMISSION WHICH OVERHEATS AS INDICATED FROM THE WARNING LIGHT. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN AND BECOMES INOPERABLE UNTIL IT IS ALLOWED TO COOL. THIS LEADS TO THE CAR DYING ON THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY OR WHEREVER YOU HAPPEN TO BE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WHICH JEEP NEEDS TO ADDRESS.
MAJOR TRANSMISSION FAILURE PREMATURELY. 2009 JEEP PATRIOT THAT WILL NOT SHIFT FROM FIRST GEAR OR ALLOW MANUAL TRANSMISSION OPTIONS. VEHICLE DROVE FINE. THEN WHEN STARTED AN HOUR LATER VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP PATRIOT FWD. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE FAILURE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY SIX TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE WHY THE VEHICLE TOOK SO LONG TO START. THE VEHICLE ALSO STALLED WHILE BEING DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,488. *BF *TR
CVT TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY WITH NO WARNING OR SYMPTOMS
I JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR FROM A CAR LOT WITH UNKNOWN ISSUES SURE ENOUGH A FEW WEEKS IN I START TO NOTICE THE JERKING WHEN I PRESS THE BREAKS AND THE HESITATION TO START AS WELL AND STEERING AND NOISES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD THAT AUTO SHOPS COULD NOT FIGURE OUT THE REASONING BEHIND. I NEED ANSWERED. I BELIEVE THIS CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE RECALL LIST. THERE HAS TO HAVE BEEN SOME KING OF MISTAKE NOT PUTTING IT ON THERE
TRANSMISSION
THE PLASTIC PART THAT HOLDS THE DRIVER SIDE MIRROR IN THE HOUSING BROKE AND MADE MIRROR UNUSABLE.
STRUCTURE. ENGINE CRADLE IS ALMOST COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. REPAIR FACILITY STATES THIS IS AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF RUST BUT COMMONLY SEEN IN THIS VEHICLE
TIRE SENSOR LIGHT WENT ON. PULLED OVER TO AIR STATION. STOPPED CAR. REMOVED TIRE STEM COVER TO PUT AIR IN TIRE. STEM BROKE AND TIRE DEFLATED. THIS HAPPENED 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS TO 3 SEPARATE TIRES. MY MECHANIC SAID THE TIRE STEMS ARE FAULTY. THEY COST $180 EACH TO REPLACE AND BREAK OFF MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP PATRIOT. WHILE DRIVING 60-70 MPH, THE ENGINE LOST POWER, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED, AND THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE BRAKES. ADDITIONALLY, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT MOVE INTO GEAR AND THE VEHICLE REMAINED STATIONARY ON THE SHOULDER. THE THROTTLE, FILL CAP, AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE TEST COULD NOT READ THE CODES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. DAYS LATER, THE FAILURES RECURRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
