NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2019 Jeep Renegade. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
am writing to formally report multiple serious issues with my 2019 Jeep Renegade (VIN: [XXX] ). I take good care of my vehicle, but it has been experiencing rough shifts, lurching and jerking during acceleration, loud noises from the engine or transmission, hesitation, unexpected power loss, and it frequently displays a warning that the license plate light is off. Recently, the car overheated and required a water pump replacement, and since then it emits a burning hose smell. Additionally, the driver’s seat does not lock properly, and the radio often turns off and on by itself. These ongoing problems not only compromise the safety, reliability, and proper functioning of my vehicle but also create a significant financial burden. I am requesting an immediate inspection and resolution, and I would appreciate guidance on the next steps or the earliest available appointment for service. A prompt response is important, as these issues pose a serious safety risk while driving. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Screen has bubbling starting to appear on it, ghost touch is activating every button on the screen. Doesn’t stop when restarted and causes for navigation system to be hindered. This is a safety hazard because it is spreading across the screen and could potentially cause navigations and air conditioner system lost. When pressure is applied, stops momentarily.
The console back up screen malfunctioning
This is the 2nd time I am repairing the left rear light that controls the signal, brake and parking light. The wires are burnt to the bulb. There is condensation in the light. Not accident related. I note that there is a potential recall but not officially.
The display screen for the back up camera, heating/cooling, radio, and all other settings has stopped functioning. The screen comes on, but with flashing static lines in the screen instead of the proper display. This makes it very hard to reverse at night, and downright dangerous... the screen can't be turned off, so when you put the engine in reverse, the screen automatically comes on and can't be turned off. But the bright flashing static display it shows make it hard to use mirrors to see to back up. Other factors make the screen not working inconvenient, but this point makes the malfunction an actual danger.
Took vehicle to Litha Jeep in Missoula Montana. They failed to do the recall and made it worse. Now the un-fasened seat belt alarm keeps alarming even when the seat belt is engaged. They also scratched the riverside passenger door and foot long deep scratch I have no faith they can fix any recall correctly since they didn't even bother to test it
Unconect system replaced once under warranty garblled screen goes black after 10 min. Backup camera does not work. No longer under warranty should be recalled many compliments on line 58000 miles
My display screen started messing up and now it's completely black. It comes and goes from messing up to going black. I read that a lot of jeeps display screens are doing this and they're charging $1700- $2200 to fix it. Too many people jeeps are doing this around the world, it has to be a recall issue.
The screen has lines in it and I can’t see my back up camera
Infotainment Console system crashes and has definite Failure which causes driver to lose visibility of climate controls and other safety features like backup camera settings and controls, this issue is reported amongst a widespread amount of Jeep renegade 2019 owners and after inspection dealer is only recommending 100% replacement at cost of driver. This is a national risk issue.
After purchasing my vehicle, the radio screen started glitching & blinking. Now, the screen is total black, but the radio still plays. This should be a safety recall because the backup camera do not show, the temperatures or anything. Will you please respond because I need this fixed A.S.A.P.
Burning thru oil, there are no leaks. I just bought the vehicle couple weeks ago
The screen has completely glitched out. It is unusable and I have researched and found this to be a very common issue. These are not old vehicles and this should be covered under a recall.
On 11/28/2024 my 2029 Jeep Renegade Multi Air Actuator failed we had just finished our drive when it failed. It spit oil everywhere and melted spark plug caps and cracked the value covers. We waited 4 months to get the part as it was on back order with thousands and we are still waiting on the value covers to this day. I PAY PAYMENTS monthly on a car I cannot drive and waiting on the parts because they are back ordered. I have spent thousands of dollars on parts and would hope thus would be a recall. If we were actively driving when it failed my family and I. Could have been badly injured.
The original Uconnect head unit is phasing in and out. Sometimes 1/3 of it will be completely black, other times all of it. I have seen hundreds of online forums that this is a reoccurring issue. This is a safety hazard due to the fact the back up camera is inoperative at this state.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that the rear-view camera was inoperable and that the display screen was not fully functional. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was a cosmetic issue, but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
UConnect console has gone out making the rearview camera inoperable. With the requirement of rearview camera but a defective unit to display the rearview camera, jeep is essentially not providing rear view cameras. This is a widespread issue with the Jeep UConnect system
2019 Jeep Renegade Uconnect screen started displaying vertical lines on the screen and eventually goes black. Cannot use any of the screen controls or use the backup camera. I have seen owners of various year models on Reddit experiencing the same issues with no recourse from Jeep since they are out of warranty. Our only option is to buy an aftermarket head unit or pay Jeep over $1200 to replace it with something that will fail again
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 38,000.
Cannot get backup camera to pop up automatically when vehicle is put in reverse.
The backup up camera screen stops working when the car is warm. The screen divides into three columns. As it warms up the columns fail. They become electronically distorted beyond recognition and eventually go black. This backup camera screen is also the touch screen that controls lots of functions of the vehicle. Defroster, climate controlls, radio, hands free phone usage, car settings for lights, horns, and much more. The car is available for inspection upon request. There is a large blind spot behind the vehicle when backing up. We only buy a car if it has a backup camera. We do not ever want to back over a child. The camera and viewing screen must work to help prevent this. On this vehicle it does not work. Unacceptable. We called the dealership. They are familiar with the problem. It happens to many jeeps they said. They quoted us $1050 dollars to fix it. I went online and found that many people that had paid to have this repaired at the dealership, had the screens fail again soon after the repair. We have not had it repaired yet. Because we don't have confidence that Jeep has a viable solution yet. It has not been inspected by anyone yet. The problem starts to appear as a separation of the screen into three columns. One by one, those columns begin to fail. They fail rather quickly. As the vehicle gets warmer, the screen fails faster. Often the screen doesn't work at all when you first turn the car on. There have not been any warning signs or lights warning us of a failure. The failure started around August 2024. The vehicle had only 24500 miles.
The display for the backup camera is only showing a partial screen preventing full view of the rear of the vehicle when in reverse. The rear camera is a safety feature to prevent backing incidents protecting human and property damage. After research , this appears to be a common issue with the 2018 and 2019 Jeep Renegades. The problem started approximately six months ago August 2024 and I have not had it looked at by the dealership.
My vehicle is experiencing the same exact engine issue that a technical bulletin has been issued for. The bulletin is for affected vehicle manufactured after 2021 which would qualify for warranty reimbursement. My vehicle is a 2019 with 54k miles on it. The problem started at appx 48k miles 4 months ago. The Bulletin number is TSB 09-006-23 (Low oil Pressure) When the check engine light turns on the car will drive normal then at times the jeep will not go over 3300 RPMs causing a lack of power to accelerate. I have experienced situations where I cannot accelerate while driving or accelerate from a stop while trying to merge on to a highway. The bulletin is issued for a large repair. Please review this failure of parts to trace back to the appropriate years affected. This could result in a vehicle crash.
The radio screen is black and the back up camera is contacted with the screen. I would think that would be a safety issue. I have tried all of the resets. I took to a dealership yesterday and it will cost over $1600.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to have NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V510000 (Air Bags, Seat Belts) recall repair completed. The contact stated that the recall repair was completed; however, the air bag warning light remained illuminated. The dealer was contacted and made aware of the failure; however, the contact was informed that further diagnosis needed to be made later. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 91,000.
The screen to my radio is malfunctioning. Not only does this take away my back up camera, it also leaves me so I can not access features of my vehicle: clock, heated seat, heated steering wheel, and other system functions - due to the screen glitching/turning black my MPH has changed to KM/H and I am unable to change it back
Display screen in center console is not functioning and back up camera is inoperable. All of the controls and setting that are only accessible through the touchscreen can not function. The screen is completely black and does not work, there is no other way to access anyy of these safety features and information for the vehicle.
P1DB7 Check engine light code. Almost every other new Jeep seems to have this issue and just reading about it online the problem is so bad one person had a brand new car and on the drive home from Jeep dealer got a check engine light but that’s only because it was new under warranty.
THE DISPLAY FOR REAR VIEW , RADIO, AND OTHER ITEMS HAS GONE BLACK. ONLY THE SCREEN DOES NOT WORK. RADIO STILL WORKS. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE WE CAN'T SEE WHO IS BEHIND US.
unknown
Throttle body sensor, throttle body injector, and acceleration pedal are failing. I was in traffic and my car went into limp mode because of a code P2122 which is the throttle body sensor. My car did not want to go faster than 10 miles an hour.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that while his wife was attempting to make a right turn, another vehicle collided with the driver's side of the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The contact stated that his wife sustained unknown injuries and medical attention was needed. The contact also received medical attention. The vehicle was towed to a collision center where the driver's side door needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. A police report was filed but the information of the report was unknown at the time. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V510000 (Air Bags, Seat Belts) after the accident. Without warning, the Jeep will flash a number of error messages and the engine will immediately shut off. The Jeep can be stopped, placed in park, and it starts right back up as though nothing is wrong. This has happened a few times, usually without incident. However, a few days ago, it occurred while driving 70MPH down the interstate, forcing me to cross several lanes after the vehicle shut itself off, without power, in order to pull to a stop and restart the vehicle. This could have led to a serious collision at high speeds. Error messages that flash up include: high coolant temp, 4WD needs serviced, engine service light, etc. But as soon as vehicle is restarted, none of these error messages reoccur.
2019 Jeep Renegade 4WD 65,000+ Miles at the time of repair, the Renegade was initially brought into the dealership for shaking and rattling noise from the front-end engine area. The dealership service inspection found the fan blade cracked and missing pieces and the fan was unbalanced, and recommended replacing the cooling fan assembly. Once they replaced the coolant fan motor and removed the front fascia, they found trans cooler lines leaking at the cooler joint and recommended replacing the cooler and lines. After all the parts arrived and with an oil change, the total invoice was over $3,000. The component that failed/malfunctioned is the cooling fan assembly. The vehicle in its damaged state was said not to cool and cause engine damage. The dealership confirmed the problem. The dealership inspected the vehicle. There were no warning lamps, messages, or any notifications of the problem it was brought into the dealership due to the sound/vibration of the engine. This fan issue is similar to the recall on all 2015-2017 Jeep Renegades that was issued after a lawsuit was dismissed because Fiat Chrysler (FCA US) offered to replace the cooling fans for free or reimburse Renegade customers for engine cooling fan repairs. Come on wen start up
On July 21, 2023, I was vigorously hit in the rear by someone. According to the police report, this person's airbags deployed. Unfortunately, my airbag, although hit extremely hard, did not. I was injured pretty bad and had to get treatment for over a year. I am still not completely healed. I was uneasy about my airbag not deploying and was sent a safety recall notice explaining why it did not. To resolve the issue, the manufacturer is offering free repair of my vehicle. This is not sufficed, and I demand pain and suffering along with medical help. The airbag not deploying during my accident resulted in increased injury. Please help me mediate with the manufacturer.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the airbag warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
Issue with brakes wearing and warping down after 10,000 miles after new brakes and rotors are replaced.
Radio has black screen and nothing works on display screen
Touch screen control has gone black and isn't accessible. The back up camera is no longer working. This vehicle has a lot of blind spots without a rearview camera. All setting have also switched to Canadian metrics-milage, tire pressure, speedometer etc. The seat belts also don't always lock in. Some times they lock in other times you have to punch in the button to try and get the locking mechanism to engage.
About a week after buying the car, the back windows will roll down when they want(not all the time) a couple years into having the car, Turned car on one day, and the gas gauge would not properly tell me how much was in it. A few weeks later the main digital radio/ back up camera glitched out and now will not work at all. And then randomly the air bag light came on and stays on all the time not sure why. Seen problems like these in older versions of my Jeep and wondering if others have same issues.
I could not buckle the front driver side seat belt. It felt like it was locked shut.
The left taillight system is defective. The 5 electrical prongs have one in the middle that is missing. Hence, I had to buy another. The new one doesnt stay connected in the casing. Tape wont hold it. The piece is also defective as the two connectors dont fit together.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that while shifted into reverse, the Back Over Prevention camera screen became distorted. The contact stated that while shifted in drive, the screen displayed as if the vehicle was in the reverse for several minutes before the display went back to normal. The sound system warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the inner panel had detached, and the radio and screen needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall and that the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

My car is dying after running for awhile. I’ve had a multipoint inspection done, and everything was in order so I’m not sure what’s wrong. It just cuts off while I’m driving, and no engine lights are on. If I try to start it again, it usually turns back on, but it makes me do it several times some times.
Both front tires had improper wear on the outside tread. The tires were worn down to the steel belts.
Sometimes when I put the car in drive after I've reversed, the rear camera stays on while I'm driving forward.
The uconnect screen has gone completely black. The uconnect screen in this vehicle controls every feature on the vehicle. It controls my speedometer. This feature is now stuck in Canadian reading so I can't tell how fast I am driving. This controls my millage. Again it is in Canadian milage, I don't know how many miles I have on my vehicle. This feature controls my back up camera. This controls every feature in my vehicle. I have no control over anything now.
4 months after my first incident with my front 2 tires, here i am again dealing with the exact same issue with the 2 rear tires. What angers me even more about this instance is that the mechanic who replaced my front 2 tires looked in January when they replaced and said that my rear 2 seemed to be ok an unaffected by whatever was going on and maybe it was just a fluke. Something needs to be done or this issue is going to cause an accident. I was lucky that someone saw the exposed belts with mine and let me know otherwise I could have possibly had a blowout and had no idea.
