MY JEEP STARTED ON FIRE AROUND/IN THE STEERING COLUMN. VEHICLE HAD SAT UNSTARTED FOR 4 DAYS WHILE ON VACATION WHEN THE FIRE OCCURRED. MONDAY, AUGUST 25, 2001, IT HAD RAINED AND THE WATER BEING ON THE WIRES IS THE "CAUSE" OF THE ELECTRICAL SHORT WHICH RESULTED IN THE FIRE. THE SOFT TOP WAS ON AND THE WINDOWS WERE REMOVED. ALL CONTENTS OF THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT WERE DRY.*AK
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A SHARP TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION VEHICLE SHAKES AND WOBBLES UNTIL IT CORRECTS ITSELF TIRES ON VEHICLE ARE COPPING BECAUSE OF THE SHOCKS. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED.*AK *JB
THE SERVICE REP STATED THE PROBLEM ARISED FROM A CAMSHAFT SENSOR BINDING AND BREAKING. I WAS A LITTLE CONFUSED SO SHE SHOWED ME THE BROKEN PART. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED BECAUSE THE SIGNAL FROM THE SENSOR WAS LOST DO TO ITS SHAFT BINDING AND SOME OF THE FINS SNAPPED OFF. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS SINCE IT STALLED THE VEHICLE. IT COULD OF HAPPENNED ON THE INTERSTATE DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC 5 MINUTES EARLIER. DAIMLER/CHRYSLER DIDN'T SHARE MY CONCERNS AND STATED I HAD A WARRANTY. AT TIMES WHEN USING TURN SIGNALS THEY SHUT OFF INTERMITTENTLY. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER IS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON NUNE 25, AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ON JUNE 26. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY SAID IT WAS A CATALYTIC CONVERTER PROBLEM, CONSUMER STATED THAT ON JUNE 28, ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING THE AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF 55 MPH HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT FOR UNKNOWN REASON. LATER ON, AFTER RESTARTING VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS CAME BACK ON. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF PROBLEM. BUT NO KNOWN CORRECTION HAVE BEEN FOUNDED AT THIS TIME. *AK
WHILE DRIVING COULD PASS THIRD GEAR THEN TRANSMISSION WILL POP OUT TO NEUTRAL. HAD HAPPENED MANY TIMES, AND HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO BE FIXED. BUT, DEALER COULD NOT FIND WHAT WAS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM.*AK
I BOUGHT MY WRANGLER IN OCTOBER 2000, WHICH WAS A NEW 2001. UP UNTIL THIS YEAR, 2004, I HAVE BEEN LOSING COOLANT FLUID FROM THE RESERVE BOTTLE. THE DEALERSHIP WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, BILL DELUCA CHRYSLER, PLYMOUTH, JEEP, INC., IN HAVEHILL, MA, TESTED IT RIGHT THROUGH MY WARRANTY EXPIRATION. IT WAS NOT UNTIL I BROKE DOWN IN CT, WHERE ANOTHER JEEP DEALERSHIP, GEORGETOWN JEEP DEALERSHIP, TOLD ME ABOUT A DYE TEST SHOULD BE PERFORMED. WHEN I WENT BACK TO MY ORIGINAL DEALER, I HAD TO ARGUE WITH THEM TO PERFORM THE DYE TEST, BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO PRESSURIZE MY JEEP...AGAIN. WHEN THEY PERFORMED THE DYE TEST THEY FOUND THE HEAD GASKET LEAKING AND TOLD ME I HAD TO PAY FOR IT. EVENTUALLY, THROUGH COMPLAINING THE THIS PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN FOUND ON MY PREVIOUS VISITS BEFORE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED, THEY DID A "GOOD WILL" JOB. I STILL ENDED UP PAYING A GOOD PORTION. TWO MONTHS LATER MY ENGINE SEIZED AND IT WAS DESCRIBED, FROM DELUCA DEALERSHIP, AS A MAJOR ENGINE FAILURE AND I WOULD REQUIRE A NEW ENGINE. WHEN THEY BROUGHT THE PROBLEM TO THEIR CHYRSLER REP., THE PERSON TOLD THEM I ONLY NEEDED A SHORT BLOCK AND NOT THE FULL ENGINE. THOUGH I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A FULL ENGINE, I WAS ONLY GIVEN A SHORT BLOCK. I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP IF I STILL HAD FULL ENGINE WARRANTY AND I WAS TOLD YES. AS TIME WENT ON, I WAS STILL LOSING COOLANT. I EVENTUALLY MOVED TO ANOTHER STATE. WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO A NEW JEEP DEALERSHIP, GEORGETOWN JEEP, IN NORWALK , CT, THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING AT FIRST. I GAVE THEM THE OKAY TO DISMANTLE MY ENGINE TO LOOK DEEPER. WHAT THEY FOUND WAS A CRACK IN MY ENGINE. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS INSANE I DID NOT RECEIVE A FULL ENGINE. CHRYSLER AND DELUCA REFUSED TO PAY AND I ENDED UP PAYING $2000. I WAS TOLD THIS CRACK WAS THERE FOR QUITE A LONG TIME AND POSSIBLY UPON INCEPTION OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE WROTE TO CHRYSLER AND THEY STILL REFUSE TO HELP STANDING BY THEIR ORIGINAL WORD. CUSTOMER SERVICE WOULD NOT EVEN HELP ME AFTER REPEATEDLY CALLING. *JB
WHY WAIT TILL AN ACCIDENT AND OR DEATH OCCURS BECAUSE OF WATER DAMAGE TO TRUCK. THEY CANT FIX THE PROBLEM WITH A FACTORY GASKET, HAVING TO PLASTER SILICONE WITH A NEW GASKET IS NOT THE ANSWER. A NEW JEEP RELACEMENT IS IN ORDER. I ASKED THE HELP DESK AT DAIMLER CHRYSLER IF IN FACT HE WOULD ACCEPT THE NEW JEEP AFTER THE DEALER BUTCHERED THE TRUCK, REPLACED THE GASKETS AND NOW IS RESORTING TO PLASTER THE ENTIRE AREA WITH SILICONE, HIS REPLY WAS NO WAY, I THEN ASKED HIM WHY DO YOU THINK I AM ANY DIFFERENT. I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW VIHICLE NOT A USED ONE. HOW LONG BEFORE THE SILICONE CRACKS, WHAT ABOUT WATER DAMAGE TO THE WIRING HARNESS, IE; THE HEAD LIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS CRUISE CONTROL, ANY OF A NUMBER OF THINGS COULD CAUSE ME TO CRASH AND OR KILL MYSELF AND OR OTHERS ? I ASK YOU IS THIS FAIR?, I SPENT OVER $26,000 DOLLARS SO I WOULD NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. *AK
REAR AXLE SEAL BROKE AT APPROXIMATELY 2000 MILES. REPAIRED AND REPLACED REAR BRAKE PADS. TOOK BACK IN FOR REPAIR OF AXLE SEAL A MONTH LATER. 4 BOLTS WERE MISSING FROM THE REAR TRANSFER CASE UPON PURCHASING.*AK
VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.*AK
THE TIRE PLACARD ON THE DOOR STATES WRONG INFORMATION, TIRE SIZE (P215/75R15) WITH A TIRE PRESSURE OF 33 LBS, CONSUMER STATES THAT THE 2002 OWNERS MANUAL HAS BEEN CHANGED TO SHOW ALL TIRE SIZES WITH CORRECT AIR PRESSURES . *YH
THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED ON 6 OCCASIONS, ON THE 5TH OCCURENCE, CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A 1-LB PRESSURE LEAK BUT THERE WAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT, THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS RESET, HOWEVER THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN, NOW THE ENGINE IS RUNNING ROUGH.*JB
IGNITION SWITCH OPERATES POORLY. *AK
THE TRANSMISSION MAKES A RATTLE/CHATTERING SOUND WHILE IN NEUTRAL (CLUTCH MUST BE LEFT OUT TOO). IT ONLY DOES THIS AS THE ENGINE GETS WARM. VEHICLE HAS BEEN LOOKED AT ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AT VARIOUS DEALERSHIPS. I HAVE EXPRESSED MY CONCERN THAT THE TRANSMISSION MAY FAIL ONCE OUT OF WARRANTY IF THIS IS NOT REMEDIED. DEALERS ALL SAY THIS IS NORMAL, BUT NEW VENTURE GEAR (TRANSMISSION MANUFACTURER) WHEN CONTACTED SAYS IT WAS NOT DESIGNED TO MAKE THIS NOISE. ONLY SOME VEHICLES WITH THIS TRANSMISSION HAVE THIS PROBLEM, WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THERE WERE A SERIES OF FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS MADE. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND I DON'T WANT MY WARRANTY TO EXPIRE BEFORE IT FINALLY BREAKS. I FEEL THAT OTHER OWNERS AND I ARE BEING GIVEN THE RUN AROUND DUE TO THE HIGH COST TO DEALERSHIPS IF THEY ADMIT THIS IS A PROBLEM.*AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION (02V075000) AND UPON MAKING THE APPOINTMENT, CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND THAT IT WOULD BE AT LEAST 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE PART WOULD BE ORDERED.*JB
STEERING WHEEL IS LOOSE IN COLUMN , WHEEL WILL NOT STAY IN PLACE WHILE CONSUMER IS DRIVING. CONTACTED DEALER. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
REAR BRAKES FAILED TO OPERATE WHEN APPLIED. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO BACK DOWN A DIRT INCLINE. WHEN THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED, THE FRONT BRAKES HAD LOCKED UP AND THE REAR BRAKES DID NOTHING, THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SLIDE BACKWARDS. THIS HAPPENED IN THE SECOND INCIDENT AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED WITH THE REAR AXLE-DANA 44/226 MM. THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE USED FOR ITS PURPOSE. RIGHT REAR AXLE SEAL LEAKED GREASE ONTO THE RIGHT REAR OF THE DIFFERENITAL, DEALER FOUND BEARING FAULTY AND REPLACED THE BEARING AND SEAL. *SCC
CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE 02V075000 RELATING TO THE IGNITION SWITCH. WHEN VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER, CONSUMER WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO PARTS. EACH WEEK FOR 3 WEEKS CONSUMER HAS CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THERE ARE OVER 400 PEOPLE WAITING FOR THE PARTS, THERE IS NO DELIVERY DATE FOR THE PARTS. CONSUMER CONTINUES TO DRIVE VEHICLE WITH A POTENTIALLY DEFECTIVE PART WHICH COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE A FIRE. *TT
WATER CAME INTO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD BECAUSE IT WAS NOT SEALED PROPERLY. *NLM
