1. I WAS MAKING A SHARP TURN WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STUCK, THEN WITH A LITTLE FORCE APPLIED THERE WAS A SNAP AND THE CLOCK SPRING BROKE. THIS RESULTED IN THE HORN, CRUISE CONTROL, AND AIR BAG CEASING TO WORK. 3. I HAVE THIS SCHEDULED TO BE FIXED BY THE DEALER. *JB
I BELIEVE THE JEEP WRANGLER BUILT BY DAIMLER CHRYSLER HAS SAFETY DEFECTS THAT CONSTITUTE A SERIES OF SAFETY HAZARDS. 1. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTS AND ENGINE RPM ACCELERATING ON BREAKING. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MY JEEP ENGINE RPMS RACED AND THE VEHICLE LEAPED FORWARD WHILE BREAKING AND COMING TO A STOP. SINCE THE PROBLEM DOES NOT HAPPEN WITH REGULARITY THE DEALERSHIPS CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG. 2. FRONT SEAT BELTS. THE FRONT SEAT BELTS DO NOT RETRACT SMOOTHLY, QUICKLY AND WITHOUT GETTING CAUGHT IN THE DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM. 3. FULL SIZE DOORS. THEY DO NOT CLOSE AND SECURE FULLY AS THE DOOR IS AJAR UNTIL YOU RE-CLOSE THE DOOR WITH FORCE. 4. BREAK NOISE. I GET A CONSISTENT CLACK NOISE WHEN APPLYING THE BREAKS. I HAVE HAD THE DEALERSHIP WORK ON THIS PROBLEM ON FIVE OCCASIONS TO INCLUDE A COMPLETE BREAK SERVICE. THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. 4. BUILD QUALITY. SINCE I BOUGHT THE WRANGLER I HAVE HAD THE RADIATOR REPLACED (IT LEAKED), ALL THE SPARK PLUGS REPLACED (ROUGH IDLE), INSIDE RIGHT DOOR HANDLE ASSIST AND SNAP ON FRONT FLOOR MAT REPLACED, THE COMPUTER REPROGRAMMED (THEY SAID THE FACTORY DID NOT DO IT RIGHT), FUEL PUMP REPLACED (GAS LEAK), SEALS AROUND GAS TANK AND GAS CAP (VAPOR LEAK), AND THE REAR SEALS (WHICH WERE NOT COVERED UNDER MY CHRYSLER EXTENDED WARRANTY). 5. CHRYSLER EXTENDED WARRANTY. NEITHER THE DEALERSHIP NOR CHRYSLER WANTED TO ADDRESS THE BREAK PROBLEM WITHOUT ME PAYING FOR A BREAK SERVICE. *NM
I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN A CAR TURNED LEFT IN FRONT OF ME AND I HIT HIM BROADSIDE. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.*AK
2001 JEEP WRANGLER 52,000 MILES 3YEARS AND 6 MONTH OLD. CYLINDER LOCK-IGNITION LOCK STUCK, STEERING WHEEL LOCK, UNABLE TO TURN ENGINE ON OR UNLOCK STEERING WHEEL. DEALERSHIP REPLACE LOCK CYLINDER AND ALSO REPLACE RECALL IGNITION SWITCH
2001 JEEP WRANGLER HAS CORROSION IN THE ELECTRICAL BOX, AIR BAG IS CORRODED, PROBLEMS WITH THE WHEEL BEARINGS AND OIL LEAK.*MR ON THE DAY OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE THERE WAS A BRAKE PROBLEM. THERE WAS A LEAK BEHIND THE PASSENGER SEAT WHICH CAUSED THE CORROSION. *JB
WHEN SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING I NOTICED A BURNT ODOR SMELL FROM THE DASH AREA. THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS RUNNING ON HIGH BLOWER AND ON THE MAX SETTING OF INTERNAL AIR FLOW. THE BLOWER STOPPED WORKING SHORTLY AFTER THIS HAPPENED. UPON INSPECTION OF THE BLOWER SWITCH I FOUND THE SWITCH HAD STARTED TO BURN AND MELT AT THE CONNECTION FOR THE MAX BLOWER SPEED. I HAVE REPLACED THE SWITCH TWICE NOW WITH THE SAME PROBLEM,THE CIRCUIT NEEDS A RELAY IN IT TO PREVENT THE BLOWER SWITCH FROM OVER HEATING AND CAUSING THE WIRE FROM BURNING UP. AT NO TIME WAS THE FUSE BLOWN ON THE CIRCUIT.
DRIVING THROUGH WATER RESULTS IN CHRONIC WATER ACCUMULATION IN VEHICLE (FRONT DRIVER & PASSENGER FLOOR, REAR DRIVER & PASSENGER FLOOR, AND TAILGATE FLOOR). THIS BEGAN THE VERY FIRST TIME I DROVE THROUGH WATER WITH THE VEHICLE. THAT WAS OVER 2 YEARS AGO. SINCE THEN, THIS PROBLEM HAS PLAGUED MY VEHICLE ... OCCURING AT LEAST 3 MAJOR TIMES SINCE THEN. AS A RESULT, I'VE HAD DAMAGE TO WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BE ON THE FLOOR AT THE TIME (BOOKS, CLOTHES, SHOES, WALLET, PURSE). NOT TO MENTION THE SMELL!*AK
THE TRANSMISSION MAKES A RATTLE/CHATTERING SOUND WHILE IN NEUTRAL (CLUTCH MUST BE LEFT OUT TOO). IT ONLY DOES THIS AS THE ENGINE GETS WARM. VEHICLE HAS BEEN LOOKED AT ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AT VARIOUS DEALERSHIPS. I HAVE EXPRESSED MY CONCERN THAT THE TRANSMISSION MAY FAIL ONCE OUT OF WARRANTY IF THIS IS NOT REMEDIED. DEALERS ALL SAY THIS IS NORMAL, BUT NEW VENTURE GEAR (TRANSMISSION MANUFACTURER) WHEN CONTACTED SAYS IT WAS NOT DESIGNED TO MAKE THIS NOISE. ONLY SOME VEHICLES WITH THIS TRANSMISSION HAVE THIS PROBLEM, WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THERE WERE A SERIES OF FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS MADE. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND I DON'T WANT MY WARRANTY TO EXPIRE BEFORE IT FINALLY BREAKS. I FEEL THAT OTHER OWNERS AND I ARE BEING GIVEN THE RUN AROUND DUE TO THE HIGH COST TO DEALERSHIPS IF THEY ADMIT THIS IS A PROBLEM.*AK. VEHICLE'S FRONT STABILIZER BROKE.*MR WHEN THE CONSUMER READ THE INVOICE, HE NOTICED THAT THE EXACT SAME PART HAD BEEN REPLACED PREVIOUSLY. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE FRONT END COLLAPSED .AS A RESULT, DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH SMELL OF BURNING STYROFOAM PERMEATED THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. A FEW SECONDS LATER, HEATED STYROFOAM BEGUN TO BE EJECTED FROM DRIVER'S SIDE AIR VENTS. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AFTER HITTING A PHONE POLE. SCARES WERE LEFT ON DRIVER'S FACE AS A RESULT OF THIS INCIDENT. *AK
HI MY COMPLAINT IS THAT WHEN MY VEHICLE IS STARTED THERE IS A STRONG SCENT OF FUEL. THIS SMELL CONTINUES UNTIL THE VEHICLE WARMS UP THEN IT CEASES. I ALSO GET APPROXIMATELY 80 MILES LESS TO THE TANK ON GAS MILEAGE. I HAVE TALKED TO NUMEROUS PERSONS OF WHOM OWN JEEPS, 2000 OR NEWER AND THEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. MOST OF THESE WERE NOTICED WHILE STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY, SO THE PROBLEMS WERE SIMPLY FIXED. ESSENTIALLY THEY WERE GIVEN A NEW GAS TANK AND FUEL LINES TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO PUT OUT THERE THAT THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF FUEL WHICH COULD LEAD TO A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS COMPLAINED OF THIS OR HAD ANY PROBLEMS OF THIS KIND. HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND. KEVIN CHAMPAIGNE. *JB
SEAT BELTS DO NOT LOCK PROPERLY RESULTING IN INJURY TO MY TWO CHILDREN. HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. HIT BRAKES HARD AND SEAT BELTS DO NOT RESTRAIN CHILDREN IN CHILD SEATS, CHILD SEATS ARE INSTALLED PROPERLY. I AM NOT COMFORTABLE WITH MY FAMILY IN THIS JEEP. HAVE HEARD MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER JEEP WRANGLER OWNERS ON THIS MATTER. *NLM

WHILE DRIVING, CONSUMER WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND NONE OF THE FRONTAL AIR BAG DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. THIS RESULTED IN DRIVER BEING INJURIED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE DETAILS. TS
CAR HAS STALLED 4 TIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE CONSUMER SWERVED TO AVOID A DEER AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE HIT A GUARDRAIL KNOCKING IT 5 FEET AWAY, VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED YET NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *AK *YH
I HAVE A 2001 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA WITH APPROXIMATELY 20 KMI. THE HYDRAULIC UNION FITTING BETWEEN THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR AND THE HOSE DISASSEMBLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE FAILURE CAUSED A RAPID LOSS OF CLUTCH HYDRAULIC FLUID, LEAVING THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS PURCHASED FROM TWO DAYS, AND APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES PRIOR TO THE FAILURE (THE SERVICE WAS FOR THE DEBRIS SHIELD RECALL AND A LUBE, OIL AND FILTER CHANGE). THE DEALERSHIP AND THE DAIMLERCHRYSLER CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER CONTEND THAT THE DEALER IS NOT AT FAULT, AND THE REPAIR IS THEREFORE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THAT MEANS THAT THEY BELIEVE THAT ROOT CAUSE OF THE FAILURE IS DUE TO EITHER THE DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING PROCESS. IN EITHER CASE, THIS WOULD CAUSE OTHER JEEP VEHICLES TO EXPERIENCE A CATASTROPHIC LOSS OF CLUTCH HYDRAULIC FLUID WHILE IN OPERATION. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WHILE DRIVING AT 65MPH ON FLAT SURFACE AND NO WARNING VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF, AND WILL BE HARD TO START BACK UP. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK

WHILE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF CONSUMER WENT INTO THE STORE, AND WHEN COMING OUT VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THAT DAY CONSUMER DROVE ONLY 18 MILES. CONTACTED DEALER ,AND THE DEALER WAS TAKING A LOOK AT VEHICLE.*AK

CONSUMER STATES THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR IS BINDING AND BREAKING, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. *YH
HEADON CRASH AT 30PLUS MPH AND NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. SECOND TIME A MAJOR COMPONENT IN FRONT END HAS HAD A PROMBLEM. STEERING LOCKED SO COULDNT TURN EITHER DIRECTION. INSURANCE COMPANY SAYS THEY HAVE HEARD OF THIS IN THE PAST. FRIEND AT JEEP DEALER WHERE TOWED SAYS LOOKS LIKE MAJOR COVERUP ON CHRYSLERS PART BECAUSE OF FAULTY EQUIPMENT, BUT HE WILL REMAIN NAMELESS UNLESS OTHERWISE NEEDED. HIS OPINION ONLY.*AK

VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR A SHORT TIME WHEN A FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD, NEAR FUEL RAIL AND FUEL INJECTORS. DAMAGE UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME.*AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE 02V075000 CALLING FOR REPLACEMENT OF IGNITION SWITCH. HOWEVER THE RECALL REPAIR CAN NOT BE DONE DUE TO LACK OF PARTS. *TT
WHILE GETTING OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND LEAVING IT IN IDLE, VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL BACK AND ACCELERATE, RUNNING OVER SOME CURBS AND SMALL HILLS BEFORE HITTING A TREE. THEN, GOING FORWARD INTO A FENCE BEFORE STOPPING. CONTACTED DEALER, DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK *JG
TRANSMISSION MAKES A GRINDING NOISE WHEN IN NEUTRAL AND CLUTCH LET OUT. DEALER CHECKED FOR RUNNING ROUGH AND FOUND THAT FLASH FOR COMPUTER WAS NOT AVAILABLE. ONCE FLASH WAS AVAILABLE, BROUGHT IN JEEP FOR FLASH AND MANUFACTURER REPLACED TRANSFER CASE SHIFT ROD, PER TSB. GRINDING NOISE WAS NOT FIXED, POINTED IT OUT AND DEALER TOLD ME THAT WAS HOW THIS MODEL AND YEAR SOUNDS. BROUGHT IT BACK AROUND 13,000 MILES AND DEALER DETERMINED THAT A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS NEEDED. ORDERED AND REPLACED STANDARD 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION. SEEMED TO FIX PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH THERE IS STILL JUST A SLIGHT SOUND WHICH DEALER SAID WAS NORMAL.*AK
WHILE DRIVING TRANSMISSION STARTS TO SLIP.*AK A NEW TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE INSTALLED. THERE WAS A LEAKING TANK SEAL. WATER LEAKS THROUGH THE A/C AND HEATER HOSES. THERE ARE HOLES AT THE BULK HEAD. THERES A FAULTY KEY CYLINDER. THE PASSENGER DOOR IS DIFFICULT TO OPEN AND CLOSE. THERE ARE 2 RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE. ONE FOR A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH AND THE OTHER FOR HTE INTAKE MANIFOLD. *JG
CONSUMER STATES THAT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO COMPLETE REPAIRS FOR RECALL. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *MR
VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AT ANY GIVEN TIME. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND LEFT THE VEHICLE THERE FOR A MONTH. DEALER COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. CONSUMER TOOK BACK VEHICLE, AND HAD NOT DROVE VEHICLE SINCE.*AK
THE VEHICLE SKIDDED WENT INTO A SPIN AND ROLLED DOWN AN EMBANKMENT WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, ON AN ICY ROAD. THE ROLL BAR BROKE UPON IMPACT. THE CAUSE OF THE ROLL BAR BREAKING HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED. *JB
A/C HEATER BLOWER WIRING CAUSES FIRE AT CENTER OF DASHBOARD. WHEN A/C OR HEATER IS PLACED IN HIGH BLOWER SWITCHS ARE SELECTOR WIRING OVER LOADS AND CAUSES BURNING. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE. NOTED AT SALVAGE AUCTIONS MANY 2000 AND UP JEEP WRANGLERS CATCH FIRE IN THIS AREA AND BURN COMPLETE. HARD TO FIGURE AFTER FIRE WHAT HAS HAPPEN. IM SURE INSURANCE COMPANYS WOULD BE INTERESTED IN THIS DEFECT. DO NOT KNOW HOW MANY INJURYS, BUT IM SURE THERE HAS BEEN SOME. I HAVE DICONNECTED THE HIGH POSITION WIRE SO THAT OVERLOAD WOULD NOT ACCURE TILL I COULD FIGURE A FIX OR JEEP WILL ADMIT TO A PROBLEM AND A FIX. *NM
CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER FAILED AT 12K MILES. *JB
REAR BRAKES ARE DISABLED, CAUSING VEHICLE NOT TO STOP PROPERLY.*AK CONSUMER ADDS VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP IN ICY CONDITIONS UNLESS IN 4WD. IN 2WD THE FRONT BRAKES LOCK UP WHILE THE REAR BRAKES ARE PUSHING VEHICLE. DEALER CONTACTED BUT COULD NOT REPAIR UNTIL CHRYSLER REDESIGNED THE BRAKE LINES. *TT
MY WIFE LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE ON CITY STREETS. SHE WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 20 - 25 MPH. SHE WENT INTO A RESIDENT YARD WHERE SHE HIT A 8 TO 10" DIA. TREE AND WENT OVER IT. SHE THEN CONTINUED ACROSS SIDE STREET AND INTO ANOTHER YARD WHERE SHE CAME TO A STOP AGAINST ANOTHER TREE APPROX- 6 TO 8" DIA. THE SEAT BELT APPEARS TO HAVE WORKED AS EXPECTED BUT THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. SHE HIT HER LIP ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND REQUIRED MANY STITCHES TO REPAIR IT. SHE ALSO HAD LARGE CONTUSIONS ON BOTH OF HER SHINS. THE BUMPER WAS PUSHED INTO THE RADIATOR. THE GRILL WAS PUSHED INTO THE RADIATOR. BOTH FRONT FENDERS WERE BUCKLED AS WAS THE HOOD. WHY DIDN'T THE AIRBAG DEPLOY?*AK
THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION MAKES AN UNSUAL NOISE WHEN THE CLUTCH IS RELEASED AND THE VEHICLE IS IN NEUTRAL. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THIS IS NORMAL. I DO NOT WANT WARRANTY TO RUN OUT BEFORE MANUFACTUER CORRECTS THIS PROBLEM.*AK
THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED IN A FIRE, IN WHICH FIRE OFFICIALS STATED THE FIRE STARTED IN THE DASHBOARD, HOWEVER CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE IGNITION SWITCH AND FELT THE FIRE DAMAGE WAS A RESULT OF THE RECALL.*JG *JB

MANUAL TRANSMISSION MAKES A LOUD RATTLE WHEN IN NEUTRAL AND CLUTCH IS LEFT OUT. RATTLE IS EVEN LOUDER WHEN SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE. BOTH THE SELLING DEALER AND ANOTHER JEEP DEALER CLAIM THIS IS A NORMAL NOISE FOR THIS TRANSMISSION AND REFUSE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I AM CONCERNED THAT TRANSMISSION WILL FAIL. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT THAT THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALERS REFUSE TO RECOGNIZE.
THE JEEP WAS DRIVEN 6 MILES, PARKED IN OWNERS YARD. WITHIN 5 MINUTES OWNER SMELLED PLASTIC AND LOOKED OUT TO SEE FIRE AND SMOKE COMING FROM JEEP. MOTOR WAS MELTED. VERY OBVIOUS ELECTRICAL ORGIN. SWITCH WAS OFF . EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. HAD OWNER NOT BEEB QUICK WITH HOSE HIS HOME WOULD HAVE BURNED ALSO.OWNER BURNED HAND RAISING HOOD. MOTOR NOT RUNNING, SWITCH OFF JEEP CAUGHT FIRE QUICKLY.
