I HAVE A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND IT IS THE ORIGINAL WINDSHIELD. ON DECEMBER 13, 2007 THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THERE WERE TWO CRACKS (POSSIBLY INITIATED FROM ONE POINT BELOW THE MOLDING). THE CRACKS STARTED ON THE BOTTOM JUST OFF CENTER AND WENT UP ABOUT TWO INCHES AND THEN CURVED 90 DEGREES AND WENT HORIZONTALLY ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD. THE JEEP WARRANTY BOOK SAYS IT COVERS DEFECTS IN THE GLASS FOR ONE YEAR OR 12,000 MILES. SINCE MY JEEP WAS PAST THIS POINT MY INSURANCE COVERED IT. THEY HAD SAFELITE AUTOGLASS PUT IN A NEW WINDSHIELD ON DECEMBER 27, 2007. SIX DAYS LATER' ON JANUARY 2, 2008 ON MY WAY TO WORK THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING. THE REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD WAS LESS THAN ONE WEEK OLD! THIS TIME THERE WERE THREE CRACKS. ONE WENT STRAIGHT UP FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD TO THE TOP, MOLDING TO MOLDING. THE OTHER TWO WERE SIMILAR TO THE FIRST TIME. THEY BEGAN AT THE BOTTOM, WENT UP TWO INCHES AND TURNED 90 DEGREES AND BECAME HORIZONTAL CRACKS. THE CRACKS COULD HAVE INITIATED FROM A SINGLE POINT BELOW THE MOLDING. THIS TIME THE CRACKS STARTED MORE TOWARD THE CENTER, ABOUT 4 INCHES CLOSER TO THE DRIVER SIDE THAN THE FIRST CRACKED WINDSHIELD. THE AUTO GLASS TECHNICIAN SAID THAT CRACKED WINDSHIELDS ARE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEP WRANGLERS. I HAVE READ ONLINE FORUMS AND A LOT OF JEEP OWNERS ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. ALSO, A CO-WORKER HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO HIS JEEP. HE WENT THROUGH 2 WINDSHIELDS IN 3 YEARS. IT SOUNDS LIKE A SYSTEMATIC SAFETY ISSUE WITH JEEP WRANGLERS. I HOPE THAT JEEP WILL CORRECT THIS QUALITY DEFICIENCY BEFORE ANYONE GETS HURT. I CALLED THE JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDN'T CORRECT THEIR DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. IF THE WINDSHIELD CRACKS OR 'SPIDER WEBS' WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, THIS ISSUE COULD LEAD TO A SEVERE ACCIDENT AND/OR DEATH IF IT HASN'T ALREADY.*CN
WHEN FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH GASOLINE IT WILL NOT STOP THE PUMP AND BEGIN TO OVERFLOW. *TR
WHEN FILLING GAS TANK SHUTOFF DOES NOT WORK AND GAS OVERFLOWS. HAPPENS AT EVERY STATION, EVERY TIME I FILLUP. *JS
MY 2005 JEEP UNLIMITED RUBICON (TJ) HAS OVERFLOWED FUEL FOR YEARS. THE FUEL PUMP CONTINUES TO FLOW UNTIL FUEL HAS OVERFLOWED THE TANK AND FUEL POURS ONTO THE GROUND. CHRYSLER HAS COVERED THIS UNDER WARRANTY FOR OTHER YEAR JEEP WRANGLERS. MY YEAR IS NOT COVERED AND THE REPAIR IS OVER $900.00. I WAS TOLD THIS IS JUST A MALFUNCTION OF A VALVE IN THE FUEL FILLER PIPE. AND IS CAUSED FROM A POOR DESIGN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SHAKING OCCURS MAINLY ON THE HIGHWAY OR WHEN EXITING THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT PULL LEFT OR RIGHT. SHE MUST GRIP THE STEERING WHEEL FIRMLY ONCE THE SHAKING BEGINS. THE TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED TO TORQUE THE FRONT END AND TO HAVE THE BRAKES INSPECTED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 37,000.
IN AUG OF 2005 AT 10,000 MILES I NOTICED A SHUDDER IN THE FRONT END WHEN STOPPING PROCEEDED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID MY ROTORS NEEDED RESURFACING WHICH THEY DID FOR FREE IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY . WITHIN A YEAR IT BEGAN AGAIN SUMMER OF 2006 WITH 35,000 MILES TOTAL ON THE VEHICLE THE ROTORS AND PADS HAD TO BE REPLACED AS THE SHUDDER WHEN STOPPING OVER 45 MPH BEGAN AGAIN MY ROTORS WERE WARPED OF COURSE THE WARRANTY IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE AFTER 12,000 MILES. NOW ONCE AGAIN AUGUST 2007 I JUST HAD THE ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED AGAIN AT 60,000 MILES . *JB
WE PURCHASED OUR 2005 JEEP WRANGLER X USED IN MAY OF 2006. THE FIRST TIME WE TOOK IT ABOVE 50 MPH, WE NOTICED A SERIOUS VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AGAIN ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER, AND THEY TOOK IT TO A JEEP DEALER AND HAD THERE MECHANICS LOOK AT IT, AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AFTER TAKING IT BACK AND COMPLAINING AGAIN, THEY CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE TIRES WERE BAD. THEY REPLACED THE TIRES. THAT SEEMED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM FOR A LITTLE WHILE. SINCE THEN, WE NEVER TOOK THE VEHICLE ON HIGHWAYS OR ANY ROADS THAT YOU HAD TO TRAVEL ABOVE 50 MPH. WE JUST HAD IT INSPECTED IN JUNE OF 2007, AND IT PASSED WITH NO PROBLEMS. TWO DAYS AGO, WE HAD TO TRAVEL ON AN INTERESTATE THAT THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 65. WE NEVER MADE IT ABOVE 55. WE HAD TO BRAKE AND THE FRONT END BEGAN TO SHAKE SO BAD THAT WE ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I KNOW OF OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME YEAR JEEP. THERE IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM GOING ON WITH THESE VEHICLES. I JUST HOPE THAT SOMEONE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE KILLED BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT IT. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS JEEP WILL NEVER SEE 55 MPH AGAIN UNTIL THIS PROBLEM IS RESOLVED. ALSO, NOW WE NOW WHY SOMEONE WOULD GET RID OF IT. IT ONLY HAS 29000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE AN 88 BRONCO II THAT I FEEL SAFER DRIVING THAN I DO THIS JEEP.
STEERING FEELS LOOSE AND WOBBLY WHEN GOING ABOVE 45 MPH. TAKING IT IN TO GET LOOKED AT NEXT WEEK - CLOSET APPT. I CAN GET - I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS ANYWHERE. OTHER PROBLEMS TOO AND THERE IS ONLY 18K MILES ON IT. *JB
NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO FAILURE, JUST HAPPENED ONE DAY. IT HAPPENED TO ME AROUND 75, 000 MILES ON MY JEEP, AND EVER SINCE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN I PUT GAS INTO MY JEEP THE TANK ISN'T VENTING PROPERLY, WHICH CAUSE GAS TO GUSH OUT THE FILLER OPENING AFTER THE PUMP HAS AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE OR WHEN I FILL UP, IT WILL DO IT EVERY TIME UNLESS I PUMP THE GAS IS REALLY SLOW. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE PART. ACCORDING TO OTHER JEEP WRANGLER OWNERS THEY HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALER ITS A FAULTY ROLL VALVE INSIDE THE GAS TANK. WHICH REQUIRES THE ENTIRE TANK TO BE REPLACED. ACCORDING TO ONE DEALER THIS IS CONSIDERED A NORMAL WEAR ITEM. YET A FAULTY ROLL OVER VALVE SOUNDS LIKE A SAFETY ITEM TO ME. I HAVE HEARD OF PEOPLE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH 30K MILES ON THEIR JEEPS. *TR
I PURCHASED MY JEEP WRANGLER IN JULY OF 2005 BRAND NEW. IN JULY OF 2005 I STARTED EXPERIENCING A VIBRATING WHEN BRAKING AT SPEEDS OF 45MPH AND ABOVE. THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. I HAD IT LOOKED AT BY A LOCAL TECHNICIAN WHO SAID IF HE HAD TO GUESS HE WOULD ASSUME THE ROTORS HAD 50,000 MILES ON THEM. THE FUNNY THING IS THE ONLY HAVE HALF OF THAT AT 25,000 MILES. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIPS ARE CLAIMING THAT THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON THE BRAKES AND THE RECENT RECALL HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WRANGLER AND/OR WRANGLER UNLIMITED MODELS, STATING IT ONLY APPLIES TO THE GRAND CHEROKEE EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS. *TR
WIRING OVERHEATING AND MELTING BLOWER MOTOR FAN SWITCH AT 36,500 MILES. WIRING OVERHEATING AND MELTING MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH FOR TURN SIGNALS, HEADLAMPS, HAZARDS, ETC... AT 37,800 MILES. UNKNOWN CAUSE FOR EITHER FAILURE. REPLACED BLOWER MOTOR CONTROL SWITCH ASSEMBLY AFTER FAILURE MYSELF AS IT WAS ONLY $25 USD AND 10 MINUTES TIME. NOW THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH IS DOING THE SAME - MELTING AND CAUSING HEADLAMPS TO FAIL. IS THERE A VOLTAGE CONTROL PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS TO CAUSE THESE FAILURES? 2005 JEEP WRANGLER X. THIS IS A STOCK VEHICLE, NO MODIFICATIONS. BETWEEN 45-55 MPH BOTH ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING HAS THE DEATH WOBBLE (DW). FIRST MAJOR DW WAS JUNE 07 (12,819 MILES) AS I WAS DRIVING ON A SMOOTH SPEED LIMIT 50MPH ROAD, DEALER REPLACED BOTH STEERING DAMPER AND FRONT TRAC BAR. NEXT MAJOR DW IN APRIL 08, DEALER REPLACED FRONT TRAC BAR AGAIN. NEXT MAJOR DW 1 MAY 08, DEALER REPLACED STEERING GEAR. NEXT MAJOR DW 12 MAY 08, DEALER STATED MANUFACTURER HAS DEVELOPED A STRONGER STEERING DAMPER AND THERE ARE OVER 1,600 ON BACK ORDER, EXPECT TO BE INSTALLED IN JULY 08. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 20,631. THE JEEP DEATH WOBBLE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND JEEP NEEDS TO FIX IT. DEALER SERVICE MANAGER AND LEAD JEEP MECHANIC BOTH STATE THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM ON JEEP WRANGLERS. *TR
2005 JEEP RUBICON UNLIMITED HAS UNCONTROLLABLE VIGOROUS FRONT END SHAKING. VEHICLE BEGINS TO SHAKE AFTER HITTING ROAD PATCHES, SEAMS, AND ANY OTHER TYPE OF BUMP AT SPEEDS OF 30 + MPH. SHAKE IS SO VIOLENT THAT VEHICLE MUST BE STOPPED TO RESUME REGULAR DRIVING. VERY DANGEROUS CONDITIONS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND UNSAFE FOR PASSENGERS AND OTHER MOTORISTS DEALER IS GOING TO REPLACE CAMBER BOLTS AND STEERING DAMPENER BUT PARTS ARE ON NATIONAL BACKORDER WITH AN INDEFINITE TIME FOR REPAIR. FIRST INCIDENT WAS IN JUNE AND IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN. IT IS DRIVEN ON AN AS NEEDED BASIS ONLY, DUE TO THE "DEATH WOBBLE". *TR
WHEN FILLING MY FUEL TANK, GAS COMES OUT/BACKS UP AND SPILLS DOWN SIDE OF VEHICLE OR SPLASHES TO THE GROUND. I WANT TO BE CLEAR THAT I AM NOT TOPPING OFF. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FILL UP REGARDLESS OF THE STATION.
MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER JUMPS OUT OF FIRST GEAR, IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE HAS SLAMMED INTO ME. THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED THE SHIFTERS AND THE SYNCHRONIZERS, IT STILL DOES THIS, THEY SAY THEY ARE NOT SPENDING ANY MORE MONEY TRYING TO REPAIR IT, EVEN THOUGH IT IS UNDER WARRANTY. COULD BE DEADLY IF YOU ARE PULLING OUT OR IF IT IS PARKED AND POPS OUT OF GEAR. *TR
I HIT A TREE HEAD ON AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THIS RESULTED IN INJURIES TO MY FACE AND CHEST. THE FORCE WAS SUFFICIENT ENOUGH THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS BENT AND THE STEERING COLUMN IS BEING REPLACED. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY UNDER REPAIR AT JAKE TOMLINSON & CO, 13810 LINCOLN WAY, AUBURN, CA 530-885-0183. *JB
2005 JEEP WRANGLER WITH 9,600 MILES. EXPERIENCED "DEATH WOBBLE" AT 40 MPH. DEALER SAID IT NEEDED NEW AFTER MARKET STEERING DAMPNER..THIS DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF DEATH WOBBLE.. DEALER AVOIDS THIS PROBLEM AREA.. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE ENGAGES IN A "DEATH WOBBLE" (UNCONTROLLABLE SHAKING) CAUSED BY STEERING SUSPENSION FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING DIMPLER, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 9,617. THE VIN IS UNKNOWN.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION SLAMMED OUT OF GEAR. THE CONTACT HEARD A RATTLING SOUND COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. HE STATED THAT THE OTHER GEARS OPERATE NORMALLY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROW OUT BEARING, HOWEVER, THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,461 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE THE FIRST WEEK I BOUGHT THE JEEP USED BACK IN 2007. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES IN THE FIRST MONTH TO HAVE THEM BALANCE, ROTATE TIRES, CHECK ALIGNMENT. WAS TOLD I NEEDED NEW TIRES. NEW TIRES DOES FIX THE PROBLEM FOR A WHILE. I HAVE REPLACED BRAKES, ROTORS, TIRES, HAD ALIGNMENTS, ROTATIONS ETC. ONLY TO HAVE THE PROBLEM RECUR. I HAVE NOW FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM IS CALLED THE "JEEP DEATH WOBBLE" AND HAS HUNDREDS OF LIKE COMPLAINTS. MY TIRE WOBBLES TERRIBLY AT AROUND 55 MILES PER HOUR. I AM NOW TOLD THAT I SHOULD REPLACE MY UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS. CHRYSLER/JEEP HAS ALREADY ACKNOWLEDGED A SIMILAR PROBLEM ON THEIR LIBERTY. THEY NEED TO DISCOVER THE PROBLEM SO THAT WE CAN FIX THIS AND RIDE SAFELY BEFORE SOMEONE DIES FROM THIS DEFECT. *TR
FUEL SPITS OUT OF THE REFUEL RECEPTACLE EVERY TIME I FILL THE TANK. *TR
THE VEHICLE WILL SPILL GAS OUT OF THE FILLER NECK EVERY TIME AFTER THE PUMP HANDLE SHUTS OFF. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I USE THE LOWEST SETTING ON THE GAS PUMP OR IF I MANUALLY USE AS LITTLE PRESSURE AS POSSIBLE. IT OVERFILLS EVERY SINGLE TIME AND GAS POURS OUT OF THE FILL SPOUT RUNNING DOWN THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE ON MY HAND ON MY CLOTHES AND ON THE GROUND. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. WHENEVER THE CONTACT DRIVES OVER 40 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SHIMMIES. AS A RESULT, HE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
WHEN I FILL MY 2005 WRANGLER WITH FUEL WHEN IT NEARS 15 GALLONS IT SPITS FUEL DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE GROUND. *TR
EVERY SINGLE TIME I FILL MY JEEP UP WITH GASOLINE IT SPITS BACK AT ME. I HAVE TO STAND BACK WHILE FILLING THE TANK AND GAUGE APPROXIMATELY HOW MUCH GAS I AM LOW SO I CAN PREDICT WHEN TO SLOW DOWN THE PUMP, JUST TO SOFTEN THE AMOUNT OF GAS THAT IS SPIT BACK. THIS ONLY LIMITS THE AMOUNT THAT SPITS BACK, IT DOES NOT STOP IT ENTIRELY. HALF OF THE TIME I END UP WET WITH GASOLINE. *TR
HAPPENS PERIODICALLY, NO FOREWARNINGS JUST HAPPENS, ALWAYS WHEN GOING SLOW OR REVERSING LIKE TO PARK OR BACK INTO PARKING SPOT.....UNINTENDED ACCELERATION....SCARES THE BEJEBERS OUT OF THE PERSON DRIVING, SINCE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT'S GONNA HAPPEN.....I BOUGHT THE JEEP USED (LIKE MAYBE A YEAR OLD) WITH 14,--- MILES ON IT...NOW HAVE ABOUT 52,--- MILES ON IT....ALL STREET DRIVING, NO OFF ROAD DRIVING..HAS HAPPENED FROM THE BEGINNING WHEN I BOUGHT IT... *TR
REAR PLASTIC WINDOW CRACKED IN COLD WEATHER. TOLD BY DEALER THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND PLASTIC WINDOWS CANNOT BE TOUCHED IN COLD WEATHER. NOTHING IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATES THIS POLICY. DEALER ADVISED NOT TO REMOVE SNOW/ICE, BRUSH WINDOW, TOUCH WINDOW, OR CONTACT WINDOW WITH WATER IN COLD WEATHER. DEALER EMPLOYEE STATED THAT THEY WILL NOT TOUCH A PLASTIC WINDOW UNLESS THEY WARM THE PLASTIC UP FIRST. JEEP WILL NOT REPLACE UNDER WARRANTY, STATING ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS. POSSIBLE SAFETY HAZARD IN NOT BEING ABLE TO WASH VEHICLE IN COLD WEATHER OR REMOVE SNOW/ICE. THIS LEAVES NO VISIBILITY OUT OF REAR WINDOW. *NM
MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER PURCHASED FROM MOOTHART JEEP WAS EXPERIENCING AN UNCONTROLLABLE SHAKING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 30-40 MPH. I HAD TO PULL OFF THE FREEWAY TO GET IT CHECKED OUT. MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ROTORS. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER TO EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM, THEY DISMISSED THE ROTORS AS THE CAUSE AND BLAMED MY ALL-TERRAIN TIRES (WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE CAR) AND STATED THAT MY WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER IT BECAUSE OF THESE NEW TIRES. CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ANYWAY AND THEY BLAMED STABILIZER. THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE REPLACED THE STABILIZER UNDER WARRANTY (OUT OF COURTESY). WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR AND TRIED TO DRIVE IT HOME, THE CAR WAS SHAKING WORSE THAN WHEN IT CAME IN ON THE TOW TRUCK. I CALLED THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO TOLD ME THAT THE TIRES WERE TOO HEAVY FOR THE CAR. I INQUIRED ABOUT WHY A 4-WHEEL DRIVE OFF-VEHICLE CAR WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO HANDLE ALL-TERRAIN TIRES. HE HAD NO LOGICAL ANSWER FOR ME. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC (WHO SPECIALIZES IN TIRES) TO CHECK THE TIRES AND ANYTHING THAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS. THEY ULTIMATELY FIXED THE DEFECTIVE ROTOR, AND THE CARS RUNS FINE. HE TOLD ME THAT THE TIRES WERE FINE; IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ROTORS. DURING THIS PROCESS, I CONTACTED DAIMLER CHRYSLER ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THEY TOLD ME ALL SERVICE PROBLEMS ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THAT PARTICULAR DEALERSHIP. THERE WAS AN UNCONTROLLABLE SHAKING DURING BRAKING MAINLY AT HIGH SPEEDS OF >45 MPH AND SMALL SHAKING AT <45MPH. I KNEW IT WAS THE ROTORS BEING WARPED. THE SHAKING STARTED WHEN THERE WAS ~10000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE SERVICE PLACE AT SUBURBAN CHRYSLER JEEP AND THEY CONFIRMED THE ISSUE WITH THE ROTORS BEING OUT OF ROUND. ALTHOUGH THE MILAGE OF MY VEHICLE WHEN IT WAS FIXED WAS ~18000 MILES THEY STILL MACHINED THE ROTORS FREE OF CHARGE. THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM. DEALER REPLACED STEERING DAMPNER IN AUGUST, 2006. REPLACED TRAC BAR IN DECEMBER, 2006. I HAD INDEPENDENT SHOP CHECK FRONT END. FOUND NOTHING OUT OF SPEC. AT ONE POINT DEALER CLAIMED THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY TIRES. NEW TIRES FIXED PROBLEM FOR A SHORT TIME. HAD TIRES BALANCED 4 TIMES IN 2009. 2005 RUBICON-2480 MILES. ENGINE INDICATOR LIGHT HAS COME ON FOR THE 8TH TIME. DEALER CHECKED WITH DIGITAL READER WHICH IDENTIFIES "SMALL EVAPORATIVE LEAK". FIRST TIME, TIGHTENED GAS CAP, BUT DEALER HAD TURNED OFF THE INDICATOR LIGHT WITH THE READER. THIRD OCCURRENCE DEALER SCHEDULED CHECK OF EXHAUST AND CLEAN AIR SYSTEM, ALL TESTED FINE. LAST 4 TIMES I DISCONNECTED BATTERY UNTIL LIGHT RESET. DEALER HAS CHANGED HANDS, AND JUST SCHEDULED FOR ANOTHER CHECK, MENTIONED REPLACING GAS CAP. THIS APPEARS TO BE A NUISANCE ISSUE RATHER THAN A SERIOUS DEFECT. I WISH THEY COULD FIX IT ONCE AND FOR ALL. I AM NOT SURE HOW THIS NEW DEALER WILL SUPPORT THE WARRANTY ISSUES. I HAD THE FIRST EXPERIENCE WITH THE FRONT END SHIMMYING WHEN I HAD APPROXIMATELY 15,000 MILES ON THE JEEP. IT HAPPENED AFTER CROSSING A SEAM IN THE PAVEMENT ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH. IT HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN WHEN HITTING ANY SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD. I TOOK THE JEEP TO THE DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER WITH A HEAVY DUTY MODEL BUT IT MADE NO DIFFERENCE. I STILL HAD THE PROBLEM. I COULD NOT LET MY WIFE OR CHILDREN DRIVE THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE IT COULD EASILY SEND YOU EITHER OFF THE ROAD OR INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHEN THE SHIMMY OCCURS. WHEN SHE RELEASED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AS IF SHE SLAMMED HER FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. SHE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE FAILURE HAS CAUSED SEVERAL NEAR CRASHES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY SEVEN TIMES, HOWEVER, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THEY ARE CURRENTLY ADVISING HER TO BRING IN THE VEHICLE, BUT SHE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR A RENTAL VEHICLE. THE SPEED AND POWERTRAIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
I BOUGHT MY 2005 JEEP UNLIMITED WITH 6,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVEN TIMES TO HAVE IT FIXED. MY MAJOR COMPLAINT IS IT SURGES OUT OF CONTROL WHEN TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKES FROM A STOPPED POSITION. IT DOES IT IN DRIVE AND IN REVERSE WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NO SOLUTION. I ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKING ONCE I HIT A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD,AS SMALL AS THE REFLECTORS THAT LINE THE MIDDLE OF STREETS. THERE ARE TIMES THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES SO HARD THAT I HAVE TO LET GO OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THEY HAVE REPLACED MY STEERING STABILIZER ARM,I'VE HAD THE ROTORS TURNED I'VE REPLACED THE BRAKES.REPLACING THE STABILIZER ARM SEEMED TO HELP FOR A SHORT TIME. MY OTHER ISSUE WITH THIS LOVLEY DEATH TRAP OF MINE IS WHEN I RUN THE A/C THE WHOLE THING BOGS DOWN LIKE I'M PULLING AN EIGHTEEN WHEELER OUT OF A DITCH. THE DEALERSHIP SOLUTION WAS TO COME IN AND TEST DRIVE ANOTHER JEEP TO SEE IF I "ACTUALLY HAVE A PROBLEM". WHEN I TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY KEEP IT FOR AT LEAST TWO WEEKS AND THE PROBLEMS ARE STILL THERE.MY ADVICE TO OTHER JEEP OWNERS WITH THESE PROBLEMS IS TO ALWAYS TAKE THE BACK ROADS AND ALWAYS LEAVE A CAR LENGTH OF SPACE ALL THE WAY AROUND YOUR JEEP, AND NEVER USE THE A/C!THESE PROBLEMS BEGAN AT ABOUT 10,000 MILES AND MY JEEP JUST ROLLED OVER32,000 MILES. *JB

The camshaft sensor upper bushing does not get lubricated seizes up causes camshaft to wear out. In my jeep I replaced three of them on the inline 4.0 6cyl. I only have 66,660 miles on my jeep. June 4, 2021.

THE DAMAGED TIRE WERE REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH THE SPARE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE OFFICER ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERS WHO DETERMINED THAT THE CAUSE OF INCIDENT WAS DUE TO IMPROPER TIRE INFLATION. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED THAT THE TIRE FAILURE MAY BE DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE HYDRAULIC VALVE FOR THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THAT AN INSPECTOR WOULD BE SENT TO EXAMINE THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE INSPECTOR REFUSED TO PROVIDED REPORTS OF THE EXAMINATION.

MANUAL TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN GRINDING AND POPPING OUT OF REVERSE SINCE PURCHASE IN JANUARY 2005. RECENTLY TRANSMISSION WAS POPPING OUT OF FORWARD DRIVE GEARS AND FAILING TO ENGAGE. DEALER INSPECTED AND FOUND THE TRANSMISSION NOT GOING INTO REVERSE, POPPING OUT OF 3RD, GRINDING IN 5TH AND GENERALLY VERY NOISY. REVERSE SHAFT AND GEAR, COUNTER SHAFT AND SYNCHRONIZERS ALL SEVERELY WORN OUT. METAL CHUNKS WERE FOUND THROUGHOUT TRANSMISSION. TRANSMISSION HAD LESS THAN 15,000 MILES. COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WAS REQUIRED. *JB
RECEIVED LETTER FROM MANUFACTURER SAFETY RECALL E14. SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT WITH DEALER WHERE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALERS AT 8:30 AM ON DAY OF APPOINTMENT. WENT TO PICK UP AT 4:30 PM (ON A FRIDAY) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY NEVER GOT AROUND TO FIXING IT. "TOO BUSY". I WASTED AN ENTIRE DAY AND SOMEONE'S ELSE'S TIME GETTING THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED A SECOND TIME. THE DEALER TIGHTENED THE GEAR LEAKAGES AND DETERMINED THE TAB ON THE FAN BLOWER HAD BROKEN AND WAS CAUSING THE WHIRLING NOISE. THE BLOWER FAN IS GOING TO BE REPLACED.

SUDDEN ACCELERATION HAS ALSO OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FIVE TIMES HOWEVER THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. UNCONTROLLABLE HANDLING ( IN THE FRONT END) WHEN GOING AN EXCESS SPEED OF 45 MILES OR MORE AND HIT ANY KIND /SIZE BUMP IN ROAD. FOUND OUT IT WAS THE STABILIZER BAR. WHEN I FIRST TOOK MY CAR IN (MONTHS AGO) THEY TOLD ME ( CHRYSLER) IT WAS MY ROTORS. DIDN'T UNDERSTAND HOW MY ROTORS COULD DO THAT SINCE I WASN'T BRAKING AT THE TIME THE SHAKING WAS HAPPENING. I ENDED UP TAKING IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY FIGURED OUT WHAT IT WAS. THE GUYS AT CHRYSLER HAVE A NICKNAME FOR IT; "SUDDEN DEATH". NOT ONCE DID I GET A RECALL LETTER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THEY MUST OF BEEN WORRIED ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT ONLY TOOK THEM ABOUT 2 HOURS TO FIX IT. THEY WENT AND BOUGHT AN AFTER MARKET STABILIZER BAR. I HAVE HAD OIL CHANGES FROM THE SAME PLACE THAT HAVE TAKEN LONGER. I HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT A YEAR WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THE SHAKING BUT I HEARD ABOUT OTHER WRANGLERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. BLOWER CONTROLS/RESISTOR PACK SHORT OUT, FAIL AND CAUSE WIRING HARNESS TO MELT FOR THE HVAC BLOWER AND BLOWER CONTROLS. BLOWER WIRING HARNESS APPEARS TO PULL THE FULL CURRENT OF THE BLOWER MOTOR THROUGH THE WHOLE SWITCH CONTROLS WIRING HARNESS, THIS CAUSES AN OVERLOAD CONDITION AND OVERHEATS THE WIRING OF THE CONTROL SYSTEM, CAUSING SEVERE MELTING OF THE PLASTIC COMPONENTS AND POSES A SEVERE FIRE RISK. *NM

OCCURRENCE NOT CONSISTENT OR REPEATABLE ON DEMAND BUT IS FREQUENT. CAN OCCUR WITH APPLICATION (OR RELEASE) OF POWER BRAKE, TURNING OF STEERING WHEEL (POWER STEERING) OR AIR CONDITION CYCLING. WHEN THIS HAPPENS IN TECHNICAL TRAIL MANEUVERS (OFF ROAD CONDITIONS IN TREACHEROUS TERRAIN) OR IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO TREES, LARGE ROCKS, ABRUPT DROP-OFFS ALONG ROAD, THE RESULTS ARE POTENTIALLY DEADLY. NO CORRECTIVE ACTION CAN BE TAKEN BY ANY, NON FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE AS THIS IS A PROGRAMMING ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE COMPUTER. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT UNIQUE.
