THE FUEL TANK FILL WITH OVERFLOW GASOLINE DURING FILL UP. THIS HAPPENS WITH EVERY FILL UP SINCE 2006. THE JEEP WAS PURCHASED IN 2005. THIS SEEMS LIKE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH JEEP WRANGLERS.
WHEN FUELING VEHICLE, FUEL WILL SPLASH OUT OF THE FILL TUBE BEFORE FILLER NOZZLE SHUTS OFF. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FUEL AND AT DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS. I ESTIMATE MY TOTAL FUEL SPILLED OVER THE PAST DECADE TO BE IN THE AREA OF 300 GALLONS. *TR
WHEN REFUELING MY JEEP HAS ALWAYS BELCHED GASOLINE BACK OUT OF THE FUEL FILLER NECK WHEN THE GAS PUMP AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF WHEN THE TANK GETS FULL. THIS COULD EASILY CAUSE A DISASTER & MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO PUT FUEL IN IT. I THOUGHT THAT MINE WAS THE ONLY ONE TO DO THIS, BUT TALKING WITH OTHER OWNERS, I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT ALL SIMILAR JEEPS HAVE THE SAME DANGEROUS DEFECT.
THE SEAT BELT IS SITUATED IN A POSITION TO WHERE IT IS REGULARLY SMASHED AGAINST THE STRIKER PLATE ON THE DOOR WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED. THIS BREAKS THE FIBERS IN THE BELT THEREBY WEAKENING THE BELT AND MAKING IT VERY PRONE TO BREAKING IN THE EVENT OF A FRONTAL IMPACT WHERE THE BELT WOULD BE MOST NEEDED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE IDLED WHILE IN TRAFFIC. THE RPMS STAY AT 12,000 AND DID NOT DROP LOWER. THE VEHICLE LURCHED WHILE IN DRIVE OR REVERSE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT DEPRESSED. ALTHOUGH, THESE PROBLEMS PERSISTED THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN SEEN BY A DEALER.*AK
WHEN FUELING MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER , AND ALLOWING THE FUEL PUMP TO AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF WHEN THE GAS TANK REACHES THE FULL LEVEL, FUEL WILL OFTEN OVERFLOW OUT OF THE FILL PORT. MY JEEP DEALER SAYS THAT THE FIX IS TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK AND THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, COST FOR NEW GAS TANK $800.00. *TR
MY 2005 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED BEGAN HAVING AN INTERMITTENT SQUEAK THIS SUMMER. AT THE END OF OCTOBER THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDS THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED AND THAT THIS ITEM WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 26,000 MILES AND I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS THIS EARLY IN OTHER VEHICLES I HAVE OWNED. I CALLED THE CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CARE LINE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD DO NOTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM.
THE MAIN ISSUE OF CONCERN IS WHAT I DESCRIBE AS SURGING, WHAT I MEAN IS THE VEHICLE WANTS TO GO WITHOUT ANY INPUT FROM THE DRIVER. WHAT I HAVE DETERMINED IS THAT THE VEHICLE HAS A FLUCTUATING IDLE RPM AS OPPOSED TO A STEADY IDLE RPM AND WHEN THE IDLE RPM DROPS BELOW AN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL THE COMPUTER SENDS A SIGNAL TO KICK THE THROTTLE AND THE VEHICLE THEN SURGES. I HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO MY DEALER AND THEY RESPONDED BY SAYING THEY COULDN'T VERIFY THE CONCERN. A CO-WORKER RECENTLY PURCHASED THE SAME VEHICLE TYPE, ENGINE TRANSMISSION AND SO ON AND HAS REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE TO HER DEALER AND WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE CONCERN WAS NOT VERIFIABLE. *JB

YESTERDAY I WAS SITTING AT A STOP SIGN WITH MY FOOT RESTING ON THE BRAKE. I WAS NOT PRESSING THE PEDAL ACTIVELY, BUT THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE JEEP SURGED FORWARD. MY FOOT WAS NO WHERE NEAR THE GAS PEDAL, YET THE JEEP REVVED AND MOVED ABOUT A FOOT. I PRESSED HARD ON THE BRAKE AND IT STOPPED, BUT TOOK A SECOND TO REV BACK DOWN. THE ENGINE WAS COLD AS IT HAD NOT BEEN STARTED IN 4 DAYS AND I WAS ONLY ABOUT 1 MINUTE INTO THE DRIVE. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS HAPPEN? ANYONE KNOW THE CAUSE? THE JEEP IS A 2005 RUBICON, AUTOMATIC. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED 3 TIMES. TWICE WHILE THE ENGINE WAS COLD, ONCE WHILE WARM AFTER AN HOUR LONG DRIVE. EACH TIME IT OCCURRED WHILE THE RPM LOAD WAS VERY LOW. TWICE AT A STOP SIGN, ONCE WHILE PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY. SIX SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION GRINDS GOING INTO REVERSE/ POPS OUT OF REVERSE. DEALERSHIP PROVIDED TECHNICAL BULLETIN STATING THIS CONDITION WILL LEAD TO AN EVENTUAL LOSS OF FORWARD DRIVE GEARS IF NOT CORRECTED. HOWEVER, PROBLEM WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND SUBSEQUENTLY WAS NOT REPAIRED. *NM
SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE 2005 JEEP WRANGLER 2 DOOR I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT VIBRATION WHEN I HIT A BUMP AT ABOUT 30-35 MPH THAT S TARTS SHAKING THE VEHICLE SO VIOLENTLY I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN TO BELOW 5 MPH. THE JEEP JERKS ALL OF THE ROAD OUT OF CONTROL UNTIL I SLOW DOWN. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED SEVERAL PARTS ON THE SUSPENSION. THE DEALER IS KINGS JEEP 513-774-5333. FRONT END STARTS INTO A VIOLENT WOBBLE BETWEEN 50 & 55 MPH. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES. I HAVE TRIED DIFFERENT TIRES AND DIFFERENT TIRE PRESSURES AND THE WOBBLE STILL PERSIST. THE SUSPENSION HASN'T BEEN MODIFIED IN ANY WAY AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE IS IN STOCK CONDITION. I THINK THAT THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM THAT COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF LIFE AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL TO FIX IT. *JS
BOUGHT NEW 2005 JEEP WRANGLER X 8/3/05 TOOK ON TRIP AND SOON WAS OVERWHELMED WITH BUTANE/EXHAUST SMELL IF WINDOWS OR VENT WAS OPEN; EVENTUALLY CAME LEAKING THROUGH AC. SMELL BAD ENOUGH TO MAKE YOU NAUSEOUS WHICH EVENTUALLY BECAME NUMB NOSE/LIPS AND BURNING EYES FOR TWO HOURS AFTER DRIVING. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS FLUFFED, I.E., COULD HAVE BEEN A PLASTIC BAG, ONLY SMELL WAS NEW CAR SMELL, ETC., THEY EVEN CLAIMED TO HAVE DRIVEN IT WITH WINDOWS DOWN. THIS WAS IMPOSSIBLE SO I SENT MY HUSBAND THERE AND SERVICE MANAGER EXPERIENCED THE BURNING EYES AND NAUSEA DURING RIDE. CALLED JEEP AND WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T DISCUSS ANY SYSTEMIC PROBLEMS, REFERRED ME TO DEALERS. 2ND FIX ATTEMPT 9/15/05 @1344 MILES RESULTED IN "NO FAULT CODES IN SYSTEM, PERFORMED FUEL SYSTEM MONITOR TEST READING NOT IN SPECS, EXCESSIVE FUEL THROUGH SYSTEM." CHANGED SOFTWARE, WROTE "ROAD TESTED VEHICLE, HAS SLIGHT RESIDUE ODOR. CAT CONVERTER BAFFLES HAVE SOME INTERIOR FUEL COATING THAT WILL NEED TO BE BURNED OFF. WILL TAKE ABOUT 500 MILES OF DRIVING TO BURN ALL COATING FROM INSIDE OF EXHAUST SYSTEM." I WAS TOLD TO DRIVE IT "50 MILES". THEY ALSO HAD TO REPAINT THE SPIDERWEB /DEFECT PAINT TO THE TUNE OF $454. BACK IN 9/22/05 @ 1508 MILES AS PAINT WAS DETERIORATING ALL OVER. SENT FOR FULL REPAINT QUOTE ($3353- HAVE TO WAIT FOR JEEP ZONE MGR OK) MPG HAS DECLINED FROM 19 TO 17 AFTER 2ND SERVICE VISIT. TODAY 9/26/05, THE 3RD TRIP IN ON SMELL AFTER AGREEING TO TRY A SHORT TRIP. SAME RESULT/SYMPTOMS; I NEVER WILL GET THE HARD TOP OFF. TOLD SERVICE DO NOT RETURN IT UNTIL THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, SEALS, EXHAUST, WHATEVER, NO LONGER SMELLS. NOW THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER STICKS IN THE SPARE TIRE/WAS INOPERABLE, APPARENTLY MANUFACTURER PUT ON THE WRONG BLADE VIA SERVICE. ALSO WAS TOLD THAT I WAS THE ONLY WRANGLER X WITH THE EXHAUST/BUTANE SMELL PROBLEM BUT SEE ANOTHER AS EARLY AS 3/10/05. I DON'T KNOW WHAT EXCUSE I'LL HEAR ON THIS THE 3RD ATTEMPT, BUT WONDER IF SMELL IS CARBON MONOXIDE RELATED. *NM
BUTANE EXHAUST SMELL OVERCOMES DRIVER/PASSENGERS MALFUNCTIONING REAR WIPER PAINT FAILING. *NM
ODI 10137688 FOLLOW UP KUDOS TO JEEP FOR STANDING BY THEIR PRODUCT, THEY ARE CURRENTLY REPLACING THE ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND I AM HOPEFUL THIS REMEDIES THE OVERWHELMING EXHAUST SMELL COMING INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. HOPE THE PAINT ISSUE GOES AS WELL. *NM
I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON 9/11/05. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE IN A HARD MANOR, BUT SINCE THE BRAKE IS VERY CLOSE TO THE GAS PEDAL, MY FOOT WAS HALF ON THE GAS AND HALF ON THE BRAKE. THE JEEP TOOK OFF AS I APPLIED MORE PRESSURE. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE JEEP, I SLAMMED INTO A WOOD FENCE, THEN INTO A PARKED CAR. CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE. THIS IS VERY POOR DESIGN BY CHRYSLER AND DANGEROUS, LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT. CHECK THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE GAS AND BRAKE PEDAL. *JB
GAS PEDAL AND BRAKE PEDAL TO CLOSE TO ONE ANOTHER. WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE THIS WEEKEND. MY SHOE GOT STUCK BETWEEN THE GAS AND BRAKE PEDAL, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, WAS UNABLE TO STOP AND HIT ANOTHER PARKED VEHICLE CAUSING OVER $3600 IN REPAIRS TO THE PARKED CAR, THE ESTIMATED DAMAGE TO MY CAR IS THE SAME. AT 3611 MILES,I TOOK MY 05 UNLIMITED WRANGLER BACK TO THE DEALER. I COMPLAINED ABOUT EXTREME BUMPINESS AND PARTIAL CONTROL LOSS WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS AND RAILROAD TRACKS. ALSO THE REAR GLASS RATTLES, AND THE WIPER GETS STUCK IN BETWEEN THE TIRE RACK. THE DEALER SAID THAT HANDLING WAS NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC FOR THE VEHICLE. THEY REPLACED TIRE MOUNT BRACKET AND ADJUSTED REAR GLASS. SO FAR I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO 2 DIFFERENT JEEP DEALERSHIPS 5 TIMES, FOR THE SAME PROBLEMS AND IT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. *NM
2005 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT. PURCHASED 4/17/2005. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTING FROM 4RD TO 3RD AND FROM 2ND TO 1ST WITHOUT CONTROL, WHILE DRIVING, THEN REMAINS IN 1ST GEAR AND NO LONGER SHIFTS. 5 DAYS IN SHOP AND NOTHING WAS FOUND. 3200 MILES ON VEHICLE. DANGER OF POSIBLE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL IS IMMINENT WHEN SHIFTING GEARS WITHOUT CONTROL. PROBABLE CAUSE OF MAJOR ACCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED TWO TIMES.. GOING BACK TO SHOP. NO DTC CODE AVAILABLE. *JB
WHILE TEST DRIVING, AIR CONDITIONER DID NOT WORK, I WAS ASSURED THAT IT WOULD BE FIXED BY TIME OF PICK UP (JULY 11). THE AIR WORKED WHEN I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. AIR CONDITIONING GAVE OUT 2 WEEKS LATER, TOOK IN FOR REPAIR AND THEY SAID THE HOSE WAS CRACKED. WHEN I PICKED IT UP AFTER THE AIR CONDITIONER REPAIRS, I DIDN'T EVEN LEAVE THE PARKING LOT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AGAIN. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR 28 DAYS AND IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 10 DAYS. DEALER DOES NOT WANT TO MAKE RESTITUTION.*JB
THE DESIGN OF THE FUEL TANK IN THE WRANGLER UNLIMITED EDITION MADE FROM 2004 TO 2006 CAUSES IT TO HOLD AN AIR BUBBLE AND BLOW A LARGE AMOUNT OF GAS OUT OF THE FILLER SPOUT WHEN PUTTING FUEL IN. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE JEEP IS FILLED UP WITH GAS. THESE SPILLS ARE AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE AS WELL AS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
I PURCHASED MY JEEP IN MAY OF 2005. SINCE THAT TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON AND THE O2 SENSOR REPLACED THREE TIMES. THE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN. NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM THE MANUFACTURER RE: OIL PUMP FAILURES, BUT A RECALL EXISTED ON THIS VEHICLE. NOTICE WAS APARENTLY SENT IN MARCH 2005 TO OWNERS, BUT NOTHING WAS EVER RECEIVED. RECALL WAS PERFORMED AFTER I LEARNED ABOUT IT FROM A THIRD PARTY.
VEHICLE HAS PROBLEMS WITH DRIVABILITY AND SAFETY ISSUES WITH ITS SUSPENSION ALONG WITH GOODYEAR TIRES BEING OUT OF ROUND AND/OR MANUFACTURED WITH INTERNALS NOT CORRECTLY MOLDED IN TIRE.
TIRE INFLATION SPECIFICATION LABEL SHOWS INCORRECT TIRE PRESSURE FOR 30 INCH WHEEL GROUP.
2005 JEEP WRANGLER PURCHASED 4/13. ON 4/12 TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON IN TRAFFIC, VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD AND WOULD NO LONGER SHIFT GEAR (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) IN SHOP FOR PAST 8 DAYS. DEALER STATES POSSIBLE BAD SEALS. LESS THAN 600 MILES ON VEHICLE. ALSO VEHICLE SOLD WITHOUT RECALL WORK BEING COMPLETED ON VEHICLE, VEHICLE IS NOW PENDING RECALL WORK ON CAMSHAFT AND OIL PUMP.
ACCELARATOR PEDAL FELT NOTCHY AND STUCK DOWN UPON DELIVERY. SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID IT WAS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS VEHICLE TYPE. HOWEVER, UPON INSPECTION CONSUMER FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE'S CARPET WAS PROTRUDING, OBSTRUCTING THE PEDAL. CARPET NEEDED TO BE SECURED IN ORDER TO PREVENT FURTHER OBSTRUCTION.

FROM MY LIMITED RESEARCH THIS APPEARS TO BE A FAULTY VALVE IN THE GAS TANK, WHICH DEALERSHIPS ARE NOT COVERING UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
NOTICED CAR WAS PULLING TO ONE SIDE. THEN, I CALLED DEALER TO REPORT IT. THEY LOOKED AT CAR AND FOUND NOTHING TODAY, I WAS PUTTING A TOW HOOK ON THE REAR END AND NOTICED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING , NOT REALLY BAD BUT NOTICEABLE TO ANYONE WITH EYES THAT CAN SEE A FEW INCHES IN FRONT OF FACE. DRIVER'S SIDE REAR DRUM WAS LEAKING SIZE OF DOLLAR BILL UP TO DOLLAR SIZE ACROSS GIVE OR TAKE A HALF OF ONE TO FILL IN GAPS. 2. CAR PULLED TO ONE SIDE HARD WHEN BRAKING 3. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE FRONT END WOULD SHAKE SO SEVERELY THAT THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN ORDER FOR IT TO STOP JERKING UP AND DOWN. THE VEHICLE WOULD OPERATE NORMALLY ON OCCASION; HOWEVER, IF HE DROVE OVER A BUMP, THE SHAKING WOULD OCCUR. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY TEN TIMES, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE WHEN THEY TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER. I WAS BACKING UP AT NIGHT ON A STEEP CURVED DRIVEWAY. MY FRONT WHEELS WENT OVER THE CURB. WITH THE FRONT WHEELS OVER THE CURB, I ELECTED TO GO FORWARD OVER THE CURVE AND DOWN THE GRADE. THE BODY CLEARED THE CURB, AND I SLOWLY NEGOTIATED GOING FORWARD OVER THE CURB. THE REAR WHEELS CLEARED, AND WHEN THEY DID THE CAR BOUNCED. I HEARD THE REAR BUMPER HIT THE CURB. THE RESULTING BOUNCE CAUSED THE BUMPER TO COME UP AND CRIMP THE CORNER PANELS OF THE BODY, WORSE ON THE LEFT THAN THE RIGHT. THE ACTION ALSO CRACKED THE FIBER GLASS ROOF ON THE RIGHT. NONE OF THE UNDER CAR WAS DAMAGED. THERE WAS NO VISIBLE MARK ON THE TAIL PIPE EITHER. NOTE THAT THIS WAS SIMPLY GOING OVER A CURB IN A VEHICLE LISTED AS TRAIL RATED. THE SECOND PROBLEMS HAS OCCURRED ON 5 OR MORE OCCASIONS WHERE THE IDLE SPEED DOES NOT GO TO NORMAL AFTER REMOVING PRESSURE FROM THE ACCELERATOR. WAS FIRST NOTICED ON HILLS IN CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO AND HAS BEEN NOTICED IN TRAFFIC ON SEVERAL OTHER OCCASIONS. THE ENGINE NOISE IS QUITE AUDIBLE WHEN THIS OCCURS AND IDLES ABOVE 1000 AND CARRIES VEHICLE AT 10 PLUS MPH ON FLAT SURFACES. THE VEHICLE ALSO SURGES AFTER SHORT DRIVES AND IS NOTICEABLE IN PARKING LOTS OR GARAGE PARKING. THERE HAVE BEEN THREE "DANGEROUS" INSTANCES WHILE IN TRAFFIC. THIS WILL OCCUR IN BOTH REVERSE AND FORWARD DRIVES. THE DRIVE TRAIN ALSO HAS A LOUD RESONATING SOUND WHICH SOUNDS AS THOUGH THE ROTATING IS NOT UNIFORM AT LOW SPEEDS. THE DEALER SAYS THIS IS A NORMAL SOUND. ALL OF THESE CONCERNS WERE OBSERVED AFTER ABOUT 300 MILES AND BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALER. THE DEALER DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE HEARING THE GEAR SOUNDS, SAID THE IDLE WOULD ADJUST AFTER 3600 MILES AND HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE SURGING. *NM

HOWEVER UPON HAVING THE VEHICLE SERVICED THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE ON THE SPECIFICATIONS LABEL - 29 PSI - WAS INCORRECT.
