WHEN GOING FASTER THAN 50 MILES PER HOUR THE CAR SHAKES AND WOBBLES AND IS NOT CONTROLLABLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA. THE CONTACT STATED AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE IT SPEW OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE; HOWEVER, THEY REFERRED HIM TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000. AFTER FIGHTING WITH JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAD TO PAY FOR A SET OF RECOMMENDED UPGRADED WRANGLER SILENT ARMOR TIRES. JEEP "STRONGLY SUGGESTED" THAT I DO THIS EVEN THOUGH MY OLD TIRES, ORIGINAL JEEP WRANGLER TIRES, WERE IN GOOD CONDITION. JEEP REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE TIRES EVEN THOUGH IT ACKNOWLEDGED THE DEATH WOBBLE HAD WORN PATTERNS IN THE OLD TIRES. JEEP PUT IN A MOPAR STABILIZER, AND INSISTED THIS WOULD CURE THE MANUFACTURING DEFECT. TWO WEEKS AFTER INSTALLATION OF THE NEW TIRES AND NEW STABILIZER/DAMPER BY THE AUTHORIZED JEEP SERVICE PROVIDER, THE DEATH WOBBLE RECURRED. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THE DEATH WOBBLE WAS REPLICATED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO DROVE THE WRANGLER WHILE I WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. AFTER HAGGLING, JEEP AGREED TO REPLACE THE STABILIZER. THIS IS STILL IN THE PROCESS OF BEING RESOLVED. SEVERAL THINGS TO REMEMBER: (1) CALL JEEP, REGARDLESS OF THE YEAR OF YOUR VEHICLE OR WARRANTY STATUS. PLEASE, DON'T LET JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE TELL YOU THAT YOUR VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY ARE NOT ACCOUNTABLE. KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECTS HAVE NO WARRANTY LIMITATIONS AND RECALLS CAN BE MADE REGARDLESS OF OUT-OF-WARRANTY STATUS. (2) PRESS JEEP FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR ALL OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES YOU'VE MADE TRYING TO FIX THEIR PROBLEM. I WAS NOT 100% SUCCESSFUL, BUT I AM STILL APPEALING TO THEM, ESPECIALLY SINCE REPAIRS WERE MADE BY THEIR OWN DEALERSHIP. MY NEXT STEP WILL BE THE SMALL CLAIMS COURT, IF NOT FEDERAL. (3) REPORT THIS PROBLEM TO THE NHTSA! THE DEATH WOBBLE IS REAL AND IT PUTS LIVES AT RISK. IF THERE ARE NO COMPLAINTS, THERE ARE NO RECALLS OR FIXES, AND LIVES WILL BE LOST, IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY. (4) ASK YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEMBERS IF THEY'VE NOTICED THIS PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY, MANY DRIVERS THINK IT'S AN ISOLATED ISSUE. IT IS NOT, AND JEEP IS AWARE OF IT. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHRYSLER WRANGLER SAHARA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE UNOCCUPIED VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN IT UNEXPECTEDLY ERUPTED INTO FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FIRE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE, WHICH ORIGINATED FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK OVERFLOWED A QUARTER OF A TANK WHENEVER HE REFUELED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ADDRESSING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WERE EXTENDING THE WARRANTIES ON OTHER VEHICLES, BUT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THEY OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO WOBBLE UNCONTROLLABLY. THE CONDITION WAS REFERRED TO AS THE DEATH WOBBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE TIRES WERE BALANCED AND THE VEHICLE WAS REALIGNED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
HIT 50 MILES AN HOUR AND VIOLENT SHAKING OCCURRED. HAD TO STOP QUICKLY AND PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER TO GET OFF THE ROAD. HAD PARTS REPLACED. NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM. JEEP FAILS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. I HAD IT BACK IN SHOP WITH EXTENSIVE WORK DONE THIS YEAR. STILL NO FIX. AT A LOSS. MY DAUGHTER REFUSES TO RIDE IT IN AS WE ALMOST HIT SOMEONE HEAD ON BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEN THE "DEATH WOBBLE" HAPPENED. HAVE ALSO HAD IT HAPPEN WHERE IT PUT ME OFF INTO THE SIDE OF A DITCH. I HAVE DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS DUE TO CANCER AN HOUR AWAY. HAVE TO GET A RIDE BECAUSE I CANT TRUST TO DRIVE IT. I TAKE COUNTRY BACK ROADS EVERYWHERE AND MAKE ONLY SHORT TRIPS INTO TOWN. I'M ON DISABILITY, SO THE OPTION TO TRADE IT IN IS OUT. CAN'T SELL IT KNOWING IT MIGHT VERY WELL KILL THE NEXT OWNER. I JUST BOUGHT JEEP USED. FIRST TIME I FILLED UP THE PUMP CUT OFF AND THEN THERE WAS A SURGE OF GAS THAT SPEWED OUT. ON SECOND REFILL TODAY AT A DIFFERENT STATION WITH NEW PUMPS SAME THING HAPPENED GAS SPEWED UNDER SUCH FORCE IT WOULD HAVE GOTTEN IN EYES HAD I NOT HAD SUNGLASSES ON. SPILLAGE WAS OVER A LITER AND WAS ALL OVER CLOTHING AND ATTENDANT HAD TO SPREAD ABSORBENT. *TR
THE GAS TANK OVERFLOWS EVERY TIME IT IS FILLED AND SPILLS GAS ON OPERATOR AND GROUND. *TR
FUEL TANK OVERFLOWS WHEN FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH GAS. THE ROLLOVER CHECK VALVE DOES NOT ENGAGE TO STOP THE GAS PUMP. *TT
JUST PURCHASED THIS JEEP USED, EXCELLENT CONDITION FEW DAYS AGO JAN. 2012. MAJOR FUEL SPITTING BACK UPON FILLING THE TANK. THE PUMP SHUTS OFF AS EXPECTED AND THEN THERE IS A HUGE GUSH OF GAS THAT COMES OUT AFTER ALL OVER ME, THE SIDE OF JEEP, AND ALL OVER THE GROUND. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND A FIRE CONCERN! THE SECOND ATTEMPT AT FUELING I TRIED SLOWING THE SPEED OF GAS AND NOT FILLING ALL THE WAY --- SAME THING HAPPENED. JEEP DEALER ACTS THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS. A LIE. I'VE EMAILED CHRYSLER AND THEY ALSO ARE ACTING LIKE THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A COPY OF A LETTER THEY HAVE SENT TO PREVIOUS OWNERS ABOUT IT STATING THEY WOULD REPAIR THIS FUEL SPITBACK ISSUE. APPARENTLY, MY PREVIOUS OWNER DID NOTHING! I'VE NOW READ ALL OF THE REPORTS AND CLAIMS. TOO BAD WE DIDN'T KNOW THIS BEFORE. WHEN FILLING UP, GAS OVERFLOWS OUT OF FILLER NECK. DOES NOT MATTER ABOUT FUEL FLOW BEING FAST OR SLOW. *TR
I WAS PULLING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY AND THE GAS PEDDLE WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I TRIED TO BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE TOOK OFF TO APPROX. 45 MILES PER HOUR WHILE I WAS STEPPING ON THE BRAKE, IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE FOR APPROX. 15 SECONDS. THE CAR EVENTUALLY STARTED TO FISHTAIL AFTER I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I LOOKED TO SEE IF ANYTHING WAS STUCK ON THE GAS PEDDLE AND THERE WAS NOT. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND HAD TO TAP ON THE GAS PEDDLE TO GET IT TO COME UP FROM THE FLOOR. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I AM VERY FRIGHTENED OF DRIVING IT AGAIN IN CASE THIS HAPPENS ONCE MORE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENING TO ANYONE ELSE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND AS SHE SHIFTED INTO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A GARAGE WALL. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED OF THE CRASH. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC ON THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE BUT THE TEST DID NOT GENERATE ANY FAILURE CODES. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING FURTHER TESTING OF THE VEHICLE AND POSSIBLE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED THEY WOULD RETURN THE CONTACT'S CALL WITHIN FIVE BUSINESS DAYS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,300.
AS I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY THE FRONT END OF MY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF A HIGHWAY IN ORDER TO GET IT TO STOP SHAKING, WHICH I WAS VERY THANKFUL THAT THE TRAFFIC WASN'T BAD AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. THIS AS KNOWN AS THE JEEP DEATH WOBBLE. IT HAS NOW DONE IT 5 TIMES, 3 OF WHICH WERE AFTER THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY FIXED IT. THE FIRST TIME THEY PUT A NEW DAMPER ON IT. NOW IT IS IN THE SHOP AGAIN AFTER THAT DIDN'T WORK AND THEY ARE PUTTING NEW TIRES ON IT. AFTER READING MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ONLINE, IT IS APPARENT TO ME THAT NEW TIRES ARE NOT GOING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. EVERY TIME YOUR FRONT END SHAKES VIOLENTLY LIKE THAT, THE CHANCES OF DAMAGING COMPONANTS FURTHER INCREASES. MY RESEARCH HAS ALSO SHOWN ME THAT MANY, MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM AND THEY HAVE HAD TROUBLE GETTING ANYONE TO STEP UP AND FIX THE PROBLEM. IF YOU DO A SIMPLE SEARCH FOR JEEP DEATH WOBBLE YOU WILL FIND HUNDREDS OF PAGES FOR COMPLAINTS. MY FIRST EXPERIENCE OCCURED ON DECEMBER 23, 2011, AND MY MOST RECENT EXPERIENCE WAS ON FEBRUARY 17, 2012. 5 DEATH WOBBLES IN ALL, AND IT GETS WORSE EACH TIME. HAVING LITTLE CONTROL OVER THE STEERING AND FRONT END CREATES WHAT I AM SURE YOU WILL SEE IS A DEADLY COMBINATION IN ANY CONDITION. *TR
MY 2007 JEEP UNLIMITED SAHARA HAS THE "DEATH WOBBLE." OCCURRED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. MECHANIC COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT, BUT PRESCRIBED TIRE INFLATION. PROBLEM WENT AWAY UNTIL ONE WEEK AGO. CAN BE EASILY REPLICATED BY GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP AT ABOUT 25 MPH AND TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT SHARPLY. ALTERNATIVELY, JUST TRAVELING ABOVE 40-45 MPH ON A HIGHWAY, ESPECIALLY ON A CURVE, WILL REPLICATE. IF ANY OTHER JEEP DRIVER HAS THIS PROBLEM, THE ONLY WAY TO PROTECT YOURSELF IS TO BRAKE SLOWLY, GET OFF THE ROAD AND DRIVE UNDER 40 MPH...AND MUCH SLOWER WHILE TURNING EVEN ON SIDE STREETS. IF YOU MUST DRIVE ON A HIGHWAY, STAY IN THE SLOW LANE SO THAT YOU CAN EXIT TO THE SHOULDER WITH RELATIVE SAFETY, AND ENGAGE YOUR HAZARD LIGHTS. OBVIOUSLY, THESE ARE NOT PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS AND ULTIMATE CULPABILITY MUST LIE WITH THE MANUFACTURER, WHO HAS BEEN PUT ON ALERT OF THIS PERSISTENT PROBLEM FOR MANY MONTHS IF NOT YEARS. VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED BY JEEP BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY HURT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, HE DROVE OVER A ROAD BUMP, CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME UNCONTROLLABLE. HE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO REGAIN CONTROL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE, WHICH WAS CONSIDERED A "DEATH WOBBLE", WAS A COMMON FAILURE FOR THE YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL INDEPENDENT MECHANICS FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT NO FAILURE WAS DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 52,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED WITH VERY LOW MILEAGE OF 16,640 IN 2011 CONFIDENT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE BECAUSE OF THE CAR FAX. THERE WERE NO INCIDENTS REPORTED. I AM SURE THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM AND REPORTED IT. WHAT OTHER REASON WOULD THERE BE FOR SUCH LOW MILEAGE. WHEN WE WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP ONLY A MONTH LATER TO REPORT THE PROBLEM OF THE FRIGHTENING WOBBLE WHEN HITTING SMALL POTHOLE HE SMILED AND SAID "OH YEAH THAT'S THE (DEATH WOBBLE)". AND THEN HE TOLD ME THAT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THEREFORE WE ARE STUCK BECAUSE WE COULD NOT PASS THIS VEHICLE ON IN GOOD CONSCIENCE TO ANYONE AND THAT IS OVER A $20,000 LOSS TO THE CONSUMER. I WANT TO KNOW WHY SOMETHING THAT CAN CAUSE THIS KIND OF ACCIDENT PROMOTING INCIDENT NOT TO BE REPORTED TO THE NEXT PURCHASER OF THAT PARTICULAR VEHICLE OR REPAIRED BY THE DEALERSHIP BEFORE RESALE. OUR TRIP TO AND FROM HOT SPRINGS NC ON I81 S AND N AT SPEEDS OF 65-70 MPH WAS A HAIR RAISING EXPERIENCE. SURROUNDED BY TRACTOR TRAILERS A CERTAIN DEATH WOULD HAVE COME TO ANYONE WHO WENT INTO A PANIC. I AM OUTRAGED AND DISAPPOINTED BY MY DEALERSHIP AND THE MANUFACTURER OF THE SUSPENSION IN THIS VEHICLE AS THE SAFETY TESTING HAD TO SHOW A PROBLEM!!!!! I'M SURE THEY REDESIGNED THE STABILIZING SYSTEM IN THE NEXT YEAR OF THIS 2007 JEEP WRANGLER X!!! IT IS THE FRONT STABILIZER BAR AND SHOCK ABSORBING ASSEMBLY SO DO NOT LET THEM TELL YOU ITS ANYTHING OTHER THAN THAT! *JS
WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE JEEP STARTED SHAKING LIKE CRAZY COULDN'T CONTROL IT ALMOST CAUSED WRECK BETWEEN TWO TRACTOR TRAILERS THOUGHT IT JUST FELL OUT OF GEAR BUT THEN A WEEK LATER IT DID IT AGAIN GOING AROUND A CURVE AND ALMOST WENT OVER A VERY STEEP HILL SIDE TO LATER DO RESEARCH FOUND OUT THAT IT HAS BEEN A ON GOING ISSUE CALLED DEATH WOBBLE SEVERAL THINGS CAUSE IT THAT ARE DEFECTS TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT THEY HAVE TO REPLACE DAMPER BRACKET KIT, STEERING DAMPER, DAMPER TIRE ROD, DAMPER BRACKET NUT AND A BOLT ONLY HAD THE JEEP 3 MONTHS THE DEALERSHIP HAD NEVER HEARD OF IT WHICH I WAS TOLD THEY SAY THAT THRU THE ONLINE COMMENTS FROM OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD SAME PROBLEM I PRINTED OUT ALL INFORMATION SO THEY COULD SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON NOW THERE CHARGING ME TO FIX THE PROBLEM TO ALSO FIND OUT THAT THE JEEP NEVER WENT THRU THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT UNTIL I TOOK IT BACK ASKING WHEN THE OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION WAS DO ON IT THERE WASN'T ANY RECORDS IN THERE SYSTEM OF IT BEING THRU THERE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SO THEY JUST PUT ON THE LOT TO SALE BASICALLY SO THEY CHANGED THE OIL THEN AND SERVICED IT NOW IM WITH OUT A VEHICLE FOR 5-6 DAYS WHILE THEY ORDER THE PARTS AND FIX IT I'VE NEVER HAD THIS MUCH TROUBLE OUT OF A VEHICLE PAYING SO MUCH MONEY FOR IT AND 3 MONTHS IN ALREADY HAVING TO FORK OUT MONEY TO HAVE IT SAFE AND DRIVABLE SO FILING THIS COMPLAINT TO HOPEFUL HELP OTHERS IN MY SITUATION ON A SAFETY DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE FIXED BY THE COMPANY AND NOT THE INDIVIDUAL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED LIKE I DID ALMOST TWICE BEFORE I KNEW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. *KB
FOR YOUR URGENT REVIEW AND ACTION: I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 45 MPH AND THE FRONT WHEELS AND STEERING WHEEL OF MY JEEP STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY! I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE STEERING OF THE JEEP. I LOOKED UP ON THE INTERNET THIS PROBLEM AND DISCOVERED MUCH INFORMATION INCLUDING VIDEOS THAT DESCRIBE THIS VIOLENT SHAKE AS THE "DEATH WABBLE". THIS VIOLENT SHAKE CONTINUES TO HAPPEN WHEN I GET UP TO SPEEDS BETWEEN 45MP AND 60MPH. SO FAR I HAVE REPLACED THE STEERING STABALIZER SHOCK AND NOW MY JEEP IS BACK IN THE SHOP AT A LOCAL TIRE AND FRONT-END SERVICE CENTER GETTING NEW TIRES, WHEEL BALANCING AND A FRONT-END ALIGNMENT. BECAUSE OF THE SEVERITY OF THIS ISSUE, THE SERVICE CENTER SAID THEY WILL NOT "TEST DRIVE" THE JEEP AFTER THIS WORK IS COMPLETE BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO PUT THEIR EMPLOYEES LIVES AT RISK. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR ME IF I CAN'T EVEN HAVE A SERVICE PROVIDER TEST DRIVE MY VEHICLE AFTER THEY DO THEIR WORK BECAUSE THEY FEAR SOMETHING TERRIBLE COULD HAPPEN TO THEIR LIVES. IT MAKES ME VERY SCARED TO DRIVE THIS JEEP. WHEN I ASK SERVICE PERSON WHY THIS HAPPEN HE COULD NOT AND WOULD NOT GIVE STRAIGHT ANSWER SIMPLE SAID " AFTERMARKET OIL FILTER, AND I FOUND NO LEAKS" THEN ASKED IF IT WAS THE OIL FILTER HE SAID " NO I'M NOT TELLING YOU IT WAS THE OIL FILTER!" THEN I SAID "IF IT IS NOT THE OIL FILTER NOR YOU FOUND NO LEAKS WHERE DID THE OTHER 5 QUARTS OF OIL DISAPPEAR TO. IT MUST BE A DEFECTED ENGINE. I JUST CHANGE THE OIL 2000 MILES AGO!" IN ALL SERVICE DEPARTMENT WILL NOT TELL ME WHY THE ENGINE FAILED OR HOW IT HAPPEN NEITHER WILL CHRYSLER. *KB

VEHICLE WAS JUST PURCHASED CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED. VEHICLE CAME WITH A FULL TANK OF GASOLINE. WHILE RE-FILLING AT A GAS STATION FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE TANK FILLED NORMALLY. AS SOON AS THE FUEL REACHED THE NOZZLE END I HEARD THE NOZZLE CLICK OFF. THEN APPROXIMATELY HALF A GALLON OF FUEL SPRAYED OUT THE END OF THE FILL TUBE. THE FUEL RAN ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE JEEP AND ALSO SPRAYED ONTO MY PANT LEG AND SHOE. I HAVE SINCE LOOKED THIS ISSUE UP ONLINE IN JEEP OWNER'S FORUMS AND FOUND THIS TO BE A HUGE PROBLEM AMONG SO MANY OF THESE MODELS. NOT ONLY IS THIS A TREMENDOUS SAFETY ISSUE, BUT ALSO AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE AS WELL. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE TANK IS NOT VENTED PROPERLY. THIS ISSUE NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION BEFORE A TRAGIC EVENT OCCURS. EARLIER IN THIS FORM I WAS ASKED IF A FIRE OCCURRED I ANSWERED NO. THANK GOD THIS TIME THERE WAS NOT. THIS DEFECT NOT UNLIKE THROWING LIT MATCHES AT A GAS PUMP.

MY JEEP WRANGLER (2DR, 4X4) WAS IN THE PARKING LOT AT WORK. WHEN I STARTED IT AND MOVED THE GEAR SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED VIOLENTLY. WITHIN 2 SECONDS, I WAS SLAMMING INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. BY THEN I WAS JAMMING ON THE BRAKES AGAIN, BUT MY CAR STILL FELT LIKE IT WAS INCREASING IN SPEED--THROTTLE WIDE OPEN! WHEN I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, MY JEEP PUSHED IT ABOUT 15 FEET UP OVER A CURB TIL IT FINALLY HIT ANOTHER CAR AND STOPPED. ITS BACK TIRES WERE ABOUT 10 INCHES DEEP INTO THE DIRT AND JAMMED UP AGAINST ANOTHER VEHICLE. MY JEEP WAS STILL GOING, AND CLIMBED UP ACROSS HIS HOOD AND OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE, COMING TO REST UPRIGHT. MY JEEP LEFT TIRE MARKS ON THE PAVEMENT AS I TRIED TO STOP IT. THE CAR I HIT, A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN, WAS DESTROYED--TOTALED. OVER $20,000 DAMAGE ON THAT CAR ALONE. THERE WAS OVER $7000 DAMAGE TO MY JEEP. THE 3RD VEHICLE HAD DAMAGE AS WELL. THE ENTIRE INCIDENT TOOK LESS THAN 5 SECONDS---THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY PEOPLE WHO HEARD THE SOUNDS OF THE ENGINE SCREAMING AND THE CRASH ITSELF. MY TOES AND THE BALL OF MY FOOT HURT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS FROM JAMMING ON THE BRAKE, BUT MY JEEP DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO STOP BEFORE IT WAS HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE CAR I HIT SLOWED ME DOWN, AND PROBABLY SAVED ME. I HAVE SOME MINOR WHIPLASH AND HAD A TERRIBLE HEADACHE FOR SEVERAL DAYS, BUT OTHERWISE NO ONE WAS INJURED--COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL IF THAT CAR WASN'T IN FRONT OF ME TO STOP ME, BECAUSE I WAS GOING SO FAST. COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE IN PARKING LOT. CHRYSLER HAS SENT AN INVESTIGATOR OVER LAST WEEK (AN OVER-NIGHT TRIP) TO LOOK AT THE JEEP, AND HE SAID THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF "COKING" (A STICKY CARBON/TAR-LIKE RESIDUE) IN IT, AND THAT IT COULD HAVE STUCK AND CAUSED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. I JUST GOT ANOTHER CALL FROM THE SAME CHRYSLER INVESTIGATOR AND HE WANTS TO SEE THE JEEP AGAIN. *TR

THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
MY 2007 JEEP UNLIMITED SAHARA HAS THE "DEATH WOBBLE." OCCURRED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. MECHANIC COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT, BUT PRESCRIBED TIRE INFLATION. PROBLEM WENT AWAY UNTIL ONE WEEK AGO. CAN BE EASILY REPLICATED BY GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP AT ABOUT 25 MPH AND TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT SHARPLY. ALTERNATIVELY, JUST TRAVELING ABOVE 40-45 MPH ON A HIGHWAY, ESPECIALLY ON A CURVE, WILL REPLICATE. IF ANY OTHER JEEP DRIVER HAS THIS PROBLEM, THE ONLY WAY TO PROTECT YOURSELF IS TO BRAKE SLOWLY, GET OFF THE ROAD AND DRIVE UNDER 40 MPH...AND MUCH SLOWER WHILE TURNING EVEN ON SIDE STREETS. IF YOU MUST DRIVE ON A HIGHWAY, STAY IN THE SLOW LANE SO THAT YOU CAN EXIT TO THE SHOULDER WITH RELATIVE SAFETY, AND ENGAGE YOUR HAZARD LIGHTS. OBVIOUSLY, THESE ARE NOT PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS AND ULTIMATE CULPABILITY MUST LIE WITH THE MANUFACTURER, WHO HAS BEEN PUT ON ALERT OF THIS PERSISTENT PROBLEM FOR MANY MONTHS IF NOT YEARS. THE SIX SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION CONTINUALLY JUMPS OUT OF FIRST GEAR WHILE PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT TO OCCUR IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS TO JUMP OUT OF GEAR DURING A TAKE OFF AND CROSSING LANES OF TRAFFIC. STEERING/SUSPENSION. WE HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH EXCESSIVE WOBBELING AND SWAYING OF OUR JEEP. BELIEVE THIS TO BE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE TIE RODS AND STABELIZING SYSTEM. THIS IS MY THIRD CLOCKSPRING IN JUST OVER TWO YEARS. I RUN A JEEP TOUR COMPANY WITH TWO JEEPS, TWO BEING THE 4 DOOR UNLIMITED. JUST AFTER REPLACING THE SECOND ONE IN JUST UNDER TWO YEARS ON THE 07 JEEP THIS ONE WENT OUT. I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH OR LESS WHEN THE AIRBAG WAS ILLUMINATED. BASED ON PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH THE 07 I HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND DISCOVERED THIS CLOCKSPRING HAD BECOME DEFECTIVE AS THE PRIOR TWO. I REPLACED THIS CLOCKSPRING MYSELF TO SAVE ON COSTS AS THE TWO PRIOR REPLACEMENTS COST OVER $400 EACH TIME. I HAVE SAVED TWO OF THESE CLOCKSPRINGS IF NEEDED FOR INVESTIGATION.
WHILE PULLING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY, MY JEEP JUMPED OUT OF 1ST GEAR. AS I LET OFF OF THE CLUTCH AND BEGAN TO ROLL IT VIOLENTLY JUMPED OUT OF GEAR. I HAD ENOUGH SPEED FOR MY JEEP TO ACTUALLY ENTER TRAFFIC. BY THE TIME I FIGURED OUT WHAT HAD ACTUALLY HAPPENED I WAS IN TRAFFIC AND WAS ALMOST HIT BY AN ONCOMING CAR. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM AND JEEP IS ONLY OFFERING TO REPAIR IT IF IT IS UNDER WARRANTY. MY JEEP ONLY HAS 53K MILES ON IT AND IT HAS DONE THIS A FEW TIMES OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS. IN MY OPINION JEEP SHOULD RECALL THIS AS A SAFETY RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED. *TR
EACH AND EVERY TIME I FILL MY GAS TANK THE PUMP WILL CEASE THE FLOW OF GAS FROM THE NOZZLE AND LARGE QUANTITIES OF GASOLINE WILL BACKWASH/OVERFLOW FROM THE TANK. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR OWNERS OF JEEPS WITH THIS ISSUE. GOD FORBID IF SOMEONE IS SMOKING AROUND THE AREA. AS SILLY AS THAT IDEA MAY BE REMEMBER WHO SUED MCDONALDS CORP. FOR SPILLING HOT COFFEE ON THEMSELVES AND WON MILLIONS! JUST BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T TELL YOU THE COFFEE WASN'T HOT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S NOT COMMON SENSE JUST AS IS GASOLINE SPILLING VIOLENTLY FROM YOUR VEHICLES GAS TANK IS VERY DANGEROUS WITH THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE LARGE AMOUNTS OF PROPERTY DAMAGE AND LOSS OF LIFE. AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY AT THIS TIME. THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT WORK EITHER. THE CLOCK SPRING WILL NEED TO BE PLACED WITH AN ESTIMATE COST OF $500. 00. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ABOVE 55 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTO SHOP FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE MECHANIC ROTATED THE TIRES AND REPLACED THE STABILIZER BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
EVERY TIME THAT I FILL MY VEHICLE UP WITH FUEL IT OVERFLOWS AND SPILLS ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ONTO THE GROUND. AT FIRST, I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS THE PUMPS AT THE GAS STATION I NORMALLY GO TO, BUT RECENTLY I'VE STARTED TO GO TO A NEW GAS STATION AND THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING. WHAT FINALLY BROUGHT IT TO MY ATTENTION WAS THAT I WAS FILLING UP, AND SOMEONE WITH THE SAME YEAR (2007) JEEP WAS GETTING GAS RIGHT NEXT TO ME AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO HIM. I KNOW 2 OTHER PEOPLE WITH JEEP WRANGLERS AND THEIRS ARE DOING THE SAME THING. I'D BE WILLING TO BET MOST HAVE THIS PROBLEM. IT'S NOT ONLY BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, IT'S A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS WELL. *KB
2007 JEEP WRANGLER/ LESS THAN 18 K MILES: HIT MINOR BUMP AT APPROX 40 MILES/ HR, FRONT END BEGAN VIOLENT WOBBLING AND I COULD NOT STOP THE WOBBLE UNTIL I FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THIS SITUATION DID NOT RESULT INTO AN ACCIDENT. THIS WAS THE 1ST TIME THIS HAPPENED TO ME, JUST PURCHASED 2 MONTHS AGO. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO FIX PROBLEM.
