THE VEHICLE SHAKES OUT OF CONTROL AT 50MPH OR AFTER HITTING A BUMP OR FLAW IN THE BLACK TOP ROAD. THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES OUT OF MY HANDS AND YOU CAN NOT GET THE VEHICLE CONTROLLED UNTIL YOU COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I HAVE REPLACED TIRES, SHOCKS AND CONTROL ARMS BUT THIS WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. NO ONE CAN TELL ME HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND I AM UNABLE TO DRIVE ON A FREEWAY, BECAUSE I WILL EITHER HIT SOMEONE OR SOMEONE WILL HIT ME. PEOPLE WILL NOT DRIVE IN MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND WHEN SOMEONE SEE IT HAPPEN, THEY TELL ME IT LOOKS LIKE THE FRONT WHEELS ARE GOING TO FALL OFF. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED, A BURNING RUBBER ODOR EMITTED FROM THE VENTS AS THE IGNITION FAILED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD FREQUENTLY FAIL TO IMMEDIATELY START. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE CODE. THE DEALER WIPED AND SPRAYED THE VENTS, BUT THE BURNING ODOR WAS STILL PRESENT AND THE STARTING FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000. UPDATED 09/15/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED SHE NOTICED A CHEMICAL, FUEL LIKE BURNING RUBBER SMELL. THE VEHICLE FAILS TO START OCCASIONALLY. THE SMELL EMITS EVEN WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS OFF AND THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING REGULARLY. UPDATED 09/16/11
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
GAS CAP SENSOR LIGHT ON. WHEN FILLING THE TANK WITH GAS, THE AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF AT THE PUMP CLICKS OFF, THEN WITHIN 5/10 SECONDS THE GAS STARTS TO SURGE OUT OF THE TANK ALL DOWN THE JEEP, OVER THE GROUND, OVER ME. THE GAS TANK AND ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED 3 TIMES IN 2011 WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THE PROBLEM KEPT COMING BACK. THE SAME PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN 2013. WE CALLED THE DEALER AND FOUND THAT IT IS COVERED UNDER AN UNLIMITED MILES UNLIMITED MONTHS EXTENDED WARRANTY. GLAD WE CALLED BECAUSE WE DIDN'T GET ANY NOTICE OF THIS EXTENDED COVERAGE IN THE MAIL. A SEPARATE ISSUE BEGAN IN 2012 WITH SOME LEAKAGE OF GAS UNDER THE VEHICLE AND AN ODOR OF GAS OUTSIDE THE CAR IF THE TANK WAS FILLED UP ALL THE WAY. SINCE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, OUR PERSONAL MECHANIC HANDLED IT. HE REPLACED A HOSE THAT WAS ATTACHED TO THE FUEL TANK (THE SAME GAS CAP SENSOR LIGHT WAS ON FOR THIS PROBLEM TOO). HE ALSO TIGHTENED THE FUEL PUMP AT THE TANK WHERE THE GAS WAS LEAKING FROM AND HE FOUND A CRACK IN THE TANK WHICH HE PATCHED. THIS FIXED THE ODOR AND LEAKING OF GAS FROM UNDER THE JEEP. IF THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS AGAIN IN THE FUTURE, NOW KNOWING ABOUT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH THE OTHER PROBLEM, WE WILL CONTACT THE DEALER ABOUT IT TO SEE IF IT IS COVERED TOO AS IT IS GAS TANK RELATED. NOTE - IT WAS RIGHT AFTER OUR MECHANIC FIXED THE ODOR AND UNDER CAR LEAK THAT THE OTHER PROBLEM OF THE GAS SURGING OUT OF THE PUMP STARTED AGAIN. *TR

AIRBAG LIGHT GOING ON AND OFF, NOW MOSTLY STAYS ON. MY MECHANIC RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND HAS THREE OR FOUR VERY PRICEY POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS; HE IS REFERRING ME TO DEALER WHO CHARGES $89.99 JUST TO HOOK UP TO THEIR COMPUTER. FINDING A LOT OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS FROM 2008 JEEP WRANGLER RHD OWNERS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON THREE OCCASIONS THEY WERE FILLING THE GAS TANK ON THE VEHICLE AND THE GASOLINE STARTED SPILLING OUT FROM THE TANK. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT, BUT THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH A DEALER WHO SAID THEY MAY HAVE TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,990 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,400.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON OCCASIONALLY MAKING A WARNING BELL. I HAVE NO IDEA IF THE AIRBAG IS FUNCTIONAL. HAD IT TO THE DEALER ONCE BUT SINCE I WORK IN THIS VEHICLE I COULD NOT LEAVE IT SO THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE IF IT IS THE CLOCKSPRING OR AN AIRBAG MODULE. THE FUEL INLET ALSO SPEWS GAS WHEN FILLING UP THE GAS TANK. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE FUEL ISSUE, BUT I HAVE HAD PARTS ON ORDER FOR EIGHT MONTHS AND THEY ARE STILL ON BACKORDER.
HITTING A UNEVEN PATCH OF ROAD OR A SOLID BUMP CAUSES THE FRONT END TO SHIM TO THE POINT THAT THE WHOLE VEHICLE JERKS AND THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO PULL OUT OF YOUR HANDS. HAPPENS AT LEAST 1-3 TIMES A WEEK. CALLED JEEP THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND SAID IT IS DUE TO THE WAY THE FRONT END IS DESIGNED AND WEAR ON THE BUSHINGS. THEY FIXED THE ISSUE IN THE 2010 WITH A HEAVY DUTY FRONT END BAR AND I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE CENTER AT A DEALER IN WEST PALM BEACH FLORIDA THAT "UNTIL A RECALL IS PLACED I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO FIX THIS ISSUE AS THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AT THIS POINT IN TIME". *TR
MY SON WAS DRIVING HIS 2008 JEEP WRANGLER AND THE BRAKES FAILED. THIS CAUSED HIM TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF HIM AT A SLOW SPEED WITH MINOR DAMAGE AND NO INJURIES. THE POLICE OFFICER TESTED THE BRAKES AND SAID THAT THEY WERE NOT WORKING THE CAR WAS TOWED HOME.. THERE WAS NO TICKET GIVEN. THE VEHICLE HAS 24000 MILES ON IT AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. I DROVE THE VEHICLE THE PRIOR DAY AND DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HOOD LATCHES FRACTURED AND CAUSED THE HOOD TO FLY OPEN AND STRIKE THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS AN EMERGENCY LATCH TO PREVENT THE FAILURE BUT THE EMERGENCY LATCH ALSO FRACTURED. WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN IN WINDY WEATHER, THE HOOD WOULD SHAKE ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO COVERAGE FOR THE LATCHES ON THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
SEVERE VIBRATION IN FRONT END OF UNMODIFIED 2008 JEEP WRANGLER X WHEN HITTING A BUMP ON HIGHWAY. FORCED TO SLAM ON BRAKES ON HIGHWAY TO STOP VIOLENT SHAKING AND REGAIN CONTROL OF VEHICLE. IT STARTED A COUPLE MONTHS AGO AND HAPPENS ANY TIME I HIT A BIG BUMP. IT HAPPENED 3 TIMES YESTERDAY. I GOOGLED THIS AND IT APPEARS THIS IS A RATHER COMMON COMPLAINT - ONE THAT SEEMS TO BE PARTICULARLY COMMON IN THE NEWER STYLE JEEPS AT AROUND 20,000-30,000 MILES EVEN WHEN NO MODIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND IF ITS THIS COMMON, CHRYSLER SHOULD BE FORCED TO ADDRESS THIS! *TR

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SAFETY RECALL REPAIRS *TGW WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AT HER NEAREST DEALER, SHE WAS INFORMED THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND THEY WERE SERVICING THE CUSTOMERS WHO PURCHASED THEIR VEHICLE FROM THERE FIRST. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THEY COULD NOT OFFER HER AN APPOINTMENT AND TO CALL BACK IN TWO WEEKS. WHEN THE CONSUMER DID GET AND APPOINTMENT, SHE WAITED TWO HOURS ONLY TO BE TOLD THE PART WAS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE WAS ABNORMALLY LEAKING FROM THE GAS TANK. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A WAITING LIST FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE THE PART NEEDED WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000. UPDATED 05/03/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE GAS TANK LEAKED AND OVERFLOWED. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE COULD ONLY FILL THE TANK HALF WAY. UPDATED 06/06/11
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED X. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE AND STEERING WHEEL WOULD JERK VIOLENTLY. THE FAILURE WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
THIS VEHICLE HAS THE JEEP "DEATH WOBBLE" WHICH INVOLVES SEVERE SHAKING AND VIOLENT WOBBLING AT ABOUT 50 MPH. THIS OCCURS FREQUENTLY. I HAVE MADE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO HAVE THE PROBLEM SOLVED AND VEHICLE REPAIRED. NOTHING HAS HELPED. *TR

2008 JEEP JK GAS FILLER TUBE OVERFLOWS WHEN AUTOMATIC GAS SHUTOFF OCCURS DURING REFUELING EVERYTIME. IT HAS OCCURRED AT MANY DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS AND PUMPS. GAS COMES OUT AND COATS THE VEHICLE AND GROUND. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING ON A LIMITED ACCESS HIGHWAY WHEN I HIT A SECTION OF ROUGH A ROUGH ROAD ABOUT 6 FEET LONG. THE FRONT END, STEERING WHEEL & TRANSMISSION SHOOK VIOLENTLY! ONCE I GOT BELOW 45 MPH IT STOPPED. I COULD NOT STEER THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES NOW AT SPEEDS AS LOW AS 50 MPH. IT WOULD HAPPEN A LOT MORE IF I DID NOT SLOW DOWN WHEN I COME ACROSS PATCHED SPOTS IN THE ROAD OR WHERE OVERPASSES AND BRIDGES MEET THE SOLID ROAD BED. ON SMOOTH ROADS, THERE IS NO VIBRATION THAT I CAN FEEL. I TALKED TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND HE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. IT HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD, LIFTED OR WRECKED. THE GARAGE REPLACED THE STEERING GEAR BOX UNDER WARRANTY AND I PAID FOR THE ALIGNMENT CHECK AND TIRE BALANCE. I ROTATED THE TIRED AND THEN PUT A NEW TIRE ON THE RIGHT FRONT. I CHECKED FOR PLAY IN ALL THE SUSPENSION AND STEERING AND FOUND VERY LITTLE. THE GARAGE SAID THEY FOUND NONE. I THEN INSTALLED A HEAVY DUTY STEERING STABILIZER. IT DID NOT HELP. THE GARAGE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY COULD DO. WHEN I ASKED JEEP WAS THEIR A PROBLEM CALLED DEATH WOBBLE, BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF POSTINGS, THEY DID NOT ANSWER. INSTEAD, THE SERVICE MANAGER SUGGESTED I BUY 4 NEW TIRES AND GET A ROAD FORCE BALANCE. A FRIEND SENT ME TO ANOTHER JEEP DEALER TO TALK TO HIS FRIEND, WHO WAS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT ON OTHER JEEPS. THERE WAS NO REMEDY OR HELP FROM CHRYSLER JEEP. HE HAS HAD IT HAPPEN TO HIM AND WILL NOT RIDE IN OR DRIVE ONE AGAIN. HE SUGGESTED NOT DRIVING INTERSTATES AND BELOW 55 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. I AM 68 YEAR OLD RETIRED CAR, TRUCK, HEAVY EQUIPMENT AND INDUSTRIAL MECHANIC SUPERVISOR. THE JEEP IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY. BF
WHEN FUELING THE VEHICLE A LARGE AMOUNT OF FUEL OVERFLOWS FROM THE FUEL RECEPTACLE 1-2 SECONDS AFTER THE PUMP CUTS THE FLOW OF FUEL. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS FILLED AND HAS OCCURRED USING IN EXCESS OF 50 DIFFERENT FUELING STATIONS. APPROXIMATELY 1 QUART OF FUEL SPILLS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ONTO THE GROUND. THIS CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD AS WELL AS AN ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD.
EVERY TIME I FILL UP MY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER, FUEL SPILLS OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. I TOOK THE JEEP TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT THE VENT VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK IS STICKING AND THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TANK TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *LN
SEVERE FRONT END WOBBLE CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL WHEN DRIVING ABOVE 50 MPH. IT OCCURS 90% OF THE TIME WHEN DRIVING ABOVE 50 MPH. *TR
THE HORN STOPPED WORKING AND THEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT APPEARED. IN MY CASE THE FAILURE OF HORN AND AIRBAG OCCURS ALWAYS AND I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD LEAD TO DEATH IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. AT THIS TIME I HAVE NOT HAD THE ISSUE FIXED BUT THE DEALER ESTIMATES $500 TO REPLACE THE CLOCK SPRING WHICH SHOULD FIX THE ISSUE. THIS SEAMS SO BE A RECURRING ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL OF JEEP AS I HAVE SEEN THAT MANY OF THE RHD JEEPS FROM THIS YEAR ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. *TR
UPON FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL, GAS OVERFLOWS FROM THE FUELING NECK ONTO THE GROUND, VEHICLE, AND PERSON FUELING. ALSO, MANUAL TRANSMISSION GEAR WILL POP OUT OF FIRST GEAR ON ITS OWN. *TR
EVERY TIME I FILL MY JEEP WRANGLER MY GAS TANK WILL OVERFLOW. THE GAS PUMP WILL STOP, RECOGNIZING THAT THE TANK IS FULL, BUT THE TANK WILL OVERFLOW WITH ABOUT 1-2 CUPS OF GASOLINE. THIS IS HAPPENED AT EVERY GAS STATION I GO TO. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A FIRE AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS. *TR

THIS IS A DANGER AS THERE IS EXPOSED FUEL ON MY VEHICLE AND THE GROUND. THIS IS A WASTE OF MY MONEY AND A RISK TO THE ENVIRONMENT AS THE SPILL IS ON THE CONCRETE. WHEN RAIN OR WASHED THIS FUEL WILL BE INTRODUCED INTO THE WATER SYSTEM. ALSO THE DANGER IS OBVIOUS THAT THERE IS RAW FUEL FLOWING DOWN THE SIDE OF MY VEHICLE.
GAS TANK OVERFLOWS WHEN I FILL UP ON MY 08 WRANGLER. *TR
MY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA HAS FUEL OVERFLOW EVERY TIME THAT I FILL THE TANK. IT SPILLS ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE CAR, ON THE GROUND, AND ON MYSELF IF I AM IN FRONT OF THE NOZZLE. I TOOK IT IN 2 YEARS AGO, AND WAS TOLD THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I HAVE TRIED FILLING IT DIFFERENTLY, BUT IT STILL SPILLS A LITTLE WHEN IT IS ALMOST FULL. IT MAKES MY HANDS STINK, AND MY GARAGE. I AM AFRAID IT WILL CORRODE THE PAINT ON MY CAR. I HAVE HEARD OF OTHER WRANGLERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, AND MY WIFE HAS A 2009 WRANGLER THAT HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. *TR
MY JEEP IS EXPERIENCING WHAT JEEP OWNERS REFER TO AS THE DEATH WOBBLE. VIOLENT, INTENSE SHAKING OF THE FRONT END AFTER HITTING THE SMALLEST OF BUMPS. MUST SLOW DOWN IMMEDIATELY TO GAIN CONTROL OF VEHICLE. *TR
TURNING STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING, AIRBAG DASH INDICATOR ILLUMINATES AND WARNING TONE ACTIVATED. RETURN STEERING TO CENTER AND INDICATOR LIGHT EXTINGUISHES. WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND TONE ACTIVATES SPORADICALLY WHEN STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED BUT WITH INCREASED FREQUENCY OVER THE PERIOD OF 2011-2012. IN 2013, THE AIRBAG DASH INDICATOR REMAINS ILLUMINATED REGARDLESS OF STEERING WHEEL POSITION OR VEHICLE MOVEMENT. IN LATTER-HALF OF 2014, THE HORN HAS FAILED TO WORK. *TR
WHEN FILLING UP THE GASOLINE TANK ON MY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER X 2-DR, THE GAS PUMP DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY STOP AND THE GAS POURS BACK OUT OF THE FILLER HOLE AND RUNS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE JEEP AND ONTO THE GROUND. WHILE REFUELING MY JEEP THE GAS SPIT OUT OF THE FILLER NOZZLE AFTER THE PUMP HAD CLICKED OFF SPILLING GAS DOWN THE SIDE OF MY VEHICLE AND ALL OVER THE GROUND. THIS IS ACTUALLY THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED IN AS MANY TIMES AS I HAVE PURCHASED GAS FOR THE JEEP.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. HAD IT CHECKED LAST YEAR 1/14/11, THE DEALERSSHIP INSPECTED AND FOUND CODE FOR CLOCK SPRING, REPLACED CLOCK SPRING AND CLEARED CODES AND SYSTEM WAS OPERATING PROPERLY AT THE TIME. THE DEARLERSHIP CHARGED 364.48. NOW IT IS ONE YEAR LATER AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS BACK ON. IT GOES ON AND OFF THE WHOLE TIME WHLIE YOU ARE DIVING. I THINK THIS SHOULD ME LOOKED INTO BECAUSE IF THE AIRBAGS GOES OFF WHILE YOUR DIVING, IT COULD CAUSE YOU TO HAVE A CRASH OR INJURY OR DEATH TO YOU OR SOMEONE ELSE IN ANOTHER VEHICLE. *TT
WHEN FILLING GAS TANK A LARGE BACKSPLASH OF GAS COMES OUT AS TANK APPROACHES FULL. I TRIED ADJUSTING THE GAS HOSE NOZZLE BOTH IN AND OUT. SPLASHING OCCURS IN ALL CASES. GETS LESS THE FURTHER THE NOZZLE IS PULLED OUT. GAS COULD SPLASH ON PERSON STANDING CLOSE, MOSTLY RUNS DOWN SIDE OF JEEP AND ONTO AND OVER REAR BUMPER AND ONTO GROUND. SERVICE STATION ATTENDANTS HAVE COME OUT TO CHECK FOR ISSUE DUE TO AMOUNT OF GAS SPILLED. CAR HAD NO ISSUES WITH THIS FOR FIRST 3 YEARS. PROBLEM DEVELOPED SUDDENLY WITH NO WARNING. ONLY FIX IS TO NOT COMPLETELY FILL TANK BUT YOU HAVE TO GUESS EACH TIME HOW CLOSE TO FULL THE TANK IS. GAS SPILLED OUT BETWEEN 1/10 AND 1/2 GAL EACH TIME -HARD TO MEASURE. *TR
EVERYTIME WHEN FILLING UP AT A GAS STATION THE NOZZLE CLICKS OFF AND THEN GAS SPEWS OUT OF THE FILLER NECK APPROX 2 CUPS. *TR
GAS WILL SPILL FROM THE FUEL INLET WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK, REGARDLESS OF SPEED OF ADDITIONAL GAS OR CURRENT AMOUNT WITHIN GAS TANK. ENOUGH GAS IS SPILLED TO CAUSE SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE SHOULD IT REACH AN IGNITION SOURCE.
MY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER JK 2 DOOR SAHARA OVERFLOWS WHILE FILLING UP WITH GAS. IT HAPPENED SPORADICALLY OVER THE LAST 2.5 YEARS, BUT IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS IT HAS HAPPENED EVERY OTHER FILL-UP. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER 4X4. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS WHEN THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR WAS CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V528000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL) HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WAS INELIGIBLE FOR REPAIRS UNDER THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE CLOCK SPRING WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
