TWICE NOW THE STEERING WHEEL HAS LOCKED UP ON MY JEEP AND MADE IT HARD TO STEER. BOTH TIMES JEEP WAS DRIVING AND THAN TURNING AND WHILST TURNING STEERING LOCKED UP AND IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN.
AFTER PURCHASING MY JEEP MY WIFE AND I NOTICED IT WAS REALLY HARD TO KEEP IT BETWEEN THE LINES. CONSTANTLY CORRECTING THE JEEP TO KEEP IT STRAIGHT. TOOK THE JEEP IN TO HAVE THE TRACK BAR REPLACED AND ALSO THE STEERING DAMPER REPLACED. THESES REPLACEMENT PARTS DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. THERE IS ALSO A DEAD SPOT WITH THE STEERING WHEEL WHERE YOU CAN TURN IT ABOUT AN INCH BOTH DIRECTIONS WITHOUT ANY MOVEMENT FROM THE WHEELS. AFTER DRIVING THE JEEP I AM TIRED FROM RECORRECTING CONSTANTLY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE. I HAVE CONTACTED JEEP CARES AND MY DEALERSHIP FOR A THIRD TIME. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME NOTHING WAS LOOSE AND IT DRIVES LIKE THE OTHERS. FRUSTRATING!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, WITHOUT WARNING THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME LOOSE AND FAILED OPERATE AS INTENDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO SAFELY CONTROL OR MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ALLEN MELLO CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM LOCATED AT 13 MARMON DR, NASHUA, NH 03060 , (833)207-1926 AND ALSO TO BONNEVILLE AND SON CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM LOCATED AT 625 HOOKSETT RD, MANCHESTER, NH 03104, (603)624-9280, TO BE DIAGNOSED. NEITHER DEALER WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE OR RETRIEVE A FAULT CODE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000.
LOUD "CLANKING" NOISE COMING FROM REAR OF VEHICLE WHEN ACCELERATING FROM DEAD STOP AND LIGHTLY ACCELERATING FROM 5MPH.
VEHICLE FRAME HAS SEVERAL LOCATIONS WITH POOR WELDS. SPECIFICALLY, EXCESSIVE WELD SPLASH AND POROUS WELDS SIMILAR IN APPEARANCE TO OTHER OWNERS OF 2018 MODEL YEAR JEEP WRANGLER VEHICLES.
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE STEERING WHEEL OF MY JEEP LOCKS UP AND IS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THIS HAPPENS NO MATTER IF I AM GETTING OFF AN EXIT OF JUST CHANGING LANES ON THE HIGHWAY. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. SEEMS TO BE CONNECTED TO THE HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND LOWER TEMPERATURES.
THIS HAPPENED TWICE ON THE SAME DAY. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES PER HOUR ENTERING HIGHWAY WHEN A BUMP WAS HIT FRONT END STARTED TO SHAKE AND SHIMMY ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL. ALMOST HAD TO COMPLETELY STOP THE VEHICLE TO GET THE SHAKING TO STOP. THIS IS CALLED THE JEEP DEATH WOBBLE. I HAD RECEIVED A RECALL FROM FIAT CHRYSLER OF AMERICA SEVERAL MONTHS EARLIER TO HAVE MY VEHICLE STEERING STABILIZER REPLACE. AFTER A LOT OF RESEARCH ON THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM I THINK THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE FOR ALL FRONT END DAMAGE DONE FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE IN RELATION TO THIS PROBLEM IN ENGINEERING. I HAVE SEEN MANY PLACES WHERE THEY SAY THIS PROBLEM WILL RUIN YOUR BALL JOINTS AND YOUR OTHER LINKAGES IN YOUR FRONT END. THEY SHOULD INFORM THE CONSUMER OF THIS PROBLEM AT TIME OF PURCHASE.
SINCE I BOUGHT MY JEEP I'VE TAKEN IT BACK TWICE FOR THE DEATH WOBBLE. LESS THAN A YEAR AGO WAS THE FIRST TIME AND THEY REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPER. IT WAS FINE FOR A FEW MONTHS AND STARTED AGAIN. HAVING TO WORK I WASN'T ABLE TO TAKE IT BACK IN. THE WOBBLE GOT SO BAD I WAS SCARED WHEN IT WOULD START. IT HAD SUCH A VIOLENT SHAKE WHEN I WOULD HIT A BUMP ON THE FREEWAY I WOULD HAVE TO REDUCE SPEED ON THE FREEWAY FAST WHICH CAUSES IT'S OWN SET OF ISSUES. I JUST TOOK IT IN AGAIN AND THEY DID THE RECALL ON THE STEERING DAMPER AGAIN. I TOLD THEM YOU DID IT LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. I GOT THE JEEP BACK THIS WEEK AND MY FIRST DRIVE ON THE FREEWAY I CAN ALREADY FEEL THAT IT IS STILL GOING TO BE A ISSUE. WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN IT'S SNOWING AND ICY ON THE FREEWAY AND THE DEATH WOBBLE HAPPENS? FCA MAY REALLY HAVE A DEATH ON THEIR HANDS THEN. YOU DON'T GET MUCH FOR 50,000 ANYMORE. THIS SHOULD BE STOPPED BEFORE THESE JEEPS KILL PEOPLE.
EXCESSIVE SHAKING IN STEERING WHEEL UPON HITTING SLIGHT ROAD BUMPS (CRACK/PEBBLE) NOT SIGNIFICANT BUMPS OCCURRING AT SPEEDS AS LOW AS 30MPH OCCURS MORE FREQUENTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ISSUE IS MORE COMMON IF STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED SLIGHTLY TO LEFT SHAKING IS EXCESSIVE AND VEHICLE CONTROL IS LOST AT HIGHER SPEEDS. ONLY WAY TO RESOLVE IS TO SLOW ABRUPTLY TO LESS THAN 40 MPH. VEHICLE HAS ALREADY UNDERGONE FCJ RECALL FIX OF ENHANCED STEERING DAMPER/STABILIZER BUT ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED VEHICLE SAFETY CONCERN FOR THIS VEHICLE AND ANY OTHER VEHICLE NEAR IT WHEN ISSUE OCCURS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WITH AS FEW AS 3500 MILES ON THE VEHICLE
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 73. I HIT A BUMP AND THE STEERING STARTED SHAKING RAPIDLY. I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENING. I SLOWED TO A STOP AND WHEN I STARTED AGAIN I WAS FINE. I NOTED THAT WHEN I WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN THE SPEEDS OF 70-75 AND HIT A BUMP IS WHEN THE WOBBLE WOULD ENSUE. I HAVE HAD THE STEERING DAMPER REPLACED ALREADY DUE TO THIS SAME ISSUE. THE STEERING DAMPER HAD NO EFFECT ON THE PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD WILL CAUSE THE STEERING COLUMN TO SHAKE EXCESSIVELY ALONG WITH THE FRONT WHEELS GOING INTO A SEVERE WOBBLE. THIS WOBBLE WILL NOT STOP UNTIL THE VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN UNDER 15 MPH.
ROUNDING A TURN AND GOING ABOUT 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS I HAD TO STRUGGLE WITH THE VEHICLE TO PREVENT FROM CRASHING INTO THE CENTER DIVIDER.
STEERING FEELS LOOSE AND HAS PLAY. UNSAFE
VIOLENT SHAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS MAYBE A MONTH AFTER I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE BUT SINCE I BARELY DRIVE HIGHWAY IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN UNTIL RECENTLY ON A TRIP TO PA. HAD TO STOP THE VEHICLE FOR THE SHAKE TO STOP. VEHICLE IS SOMEWHAT CONTROLLABLE BUT EXTREMELY UNSAFE DEPENDING ON CONDITION OF HIGHWAY AND IF AT NIGHT. SINCE THE NOVEMBER ISSUE IT HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES SINCE AND WILL BE IN SERVICE ON 12/23 FOR A RECALL I WAS NEVER MADE OF AWARE OF.
WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS (70+) ON THE FREEWAY, IF YOU HIT A BUMP OR HOLE MY STEERING WHEEL WILL VIOLENTLY SHAKE FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS. I HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR ABOUT 13 MONTHS AND HAVE ONLY NOTICED IT OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS (WHEN IT HAS BEEN COLDER TEMPERATURES, AS I LIVE IN MICHIGAN).
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving over a significantly bumpy road surface and exceeding 50 MPH, the vehicle experienced the death wobble. The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle and the steering wheel shuddered violently. The contact released the accelerator pedal and the vehicle responded as needed at slow speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering dampener had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the dealer replaced the steering dampener several times under warranty; however, the failure progressively worsened and occurred while driving over minor bumps. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer, Northland Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (14100 Eight Mile W, Oak Park, MI 48237); where it was diagnosed that the traction bar needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown.
CLIMATE CONTROL CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. TEMPERATURE, FAN SPEED ALL STAY LOCKED
THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPORTED AND THERE HAVE BEEN 3 ATTEMPTED FIXES; 2 STEERING DAMPERS AND A WHEEL ALIGNMENT. DURING A RECENT 150 MILE TRIP, OUR JEEP DID THE DEATH WOBBLE ON 5 OCCASIONS. 3 AT HIGHWAY SPEED, APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH; TWICE CHANGING LANES AND ONCE ON A STRAIGHT AWAY IN RIGHT LANE. THE 5TH EVENT WAS AT 55 MPH ON A STRAIGHTWAY. JEEP IS IN FOR 5TH REPAIR TODAY 11/19/19 FOR A TRACK BAR TO FIX THE DEATH WOBBLE PROBLEM.*DT CONSUMER STATED HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND DEALERSHIP WANTED TO CHARGE HIM FOR AN ALIGNMENT AT CONSUMER'S COST, CONSUMER DECLINED.*JB*DT CONSUMER STATED WARRANTY CLAIM FOR REPAIRS SHOW 9TH ONE.*JB

STEERING WANDERS. TWO OR THREE INCHES OF PLAY IN STEERING. CAR HAS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE THREE TIMES. DEALER CHANGED STEERING STABILIZER THREE TIMES. CAR GOES BACK IN 11/18/19 FOR THE 4TH TIME SAME PROBLEM. STEERING IS DANGEROUS. CAR IS UNCONTROLLABLE.
MY WIFE EXPERIENCED STARTED EXPERIENCING THE HARMONIC FREQUENCY ANOMALY AKA "DEATH WOBBLE" JUST AS THE WEATHER STARTED TO GET COOLER IN NJ. I BROUGHT VEHICLE IN TO PERFORM THE TSB ON 11/15. THE VERY NEXT DAY 11/16 THE DEATH WOBBLE CAME BACK ONLY THIS TIME MUCH WORSE! SHE WAS HEADING TO A 4H LEADERSHIP TRAINING COURSE WITH A CAR FULL OF CHILDREN, THANKFULLY SHE WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WHICH IN ITSELF IT NOT SAFE TO DO. THE FIX THAT FCA HAS PUBLISHED DOES NOT WORK - NHTSA DO YOUR JOB INVESTIGATE AND MANDATE FCA FIX THE ISSUE NOT PUT A BAND AID ON A BROKEN LEG.
WHILE DRIVING NORTHBOUND ON I-275 TO TAMPA FROM SARASOTA WITH MY WIFE AND NEWBORN SON, THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY AFTER GOING OVER A BUMPY PART OF THE ROAD AROUND A CURVE OF THE HIGHWAY. THIS CONTINUED UNTIL I PULLED MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO SLOW 10-15 MPH.
AFTER OWNING THE VEHICLE, WHICH I BOUGHT USED WITH 8113 MILES ON IT, FOR ONLY FOUR DAYS, I EXPERIENCED A VIOLENT VIBRATION FROM THE STEERING MECHANISM, FORCING ME TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I THOUGHT I'D BLOWN A TIRE, BUT THE MONITOR SHOWED THEM TO BE PROPERLY INFLATED. ONCE I SLOWED DOWN, THE SHAKING DISAPPEARED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE WITHOUT INCIDENT. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN, BUT WHEN I RESEARCHED THE PHENOMENON I DISCOVERED THAT FCA HAD, SUPPOSEDLY, ISSUED A TSB RELATED TO THE PROBLEM, AND SENT A LETTER TO OWNERS OFFERING TO INSTALL A HEAVIER DUTY STEERING STABILIZER. THE DEALER I TOOK IT TO THIS MORNING WAS UNAWARE OF ANY SUCH PROBLEM OR TSB, AND, SINCE I CAN'T GET A COPY OF IT FROM YOUR IMPOSSIBLE-TO-NEGOTIATE WEBSITE, I'M AT A LOSS AS TO HOW TO PROCEED.
STEERING WHEEL BINDS UP (IT WON'T TURN LEFT) IN IN COLD TEMPERATURES. IT HAPPENED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING (IN BOTH OF THESE CASES SPEEDS WERE BELOW 45MPH). NOTIFIED THE CAR DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING WITHOUT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB), SO I SUBMITTED A CASE NUMBER WITH FIAT CHRYSLER AUTOMOTIVE (FCA). WITHIN 12 HOURS OF SUBMITTING THE CASE, I WAS INFORMED THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE, WERE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING FURTHER AND WHERE CLOSING THE CASE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT VEHICLE SAFETY ISSUE THAT REQUIRES A MORE THOROUGH INVESTIGATION AS BINDING STEERING COULD HAVE SEVERE CONSEQUENCES THAT CAN RESULT IN DEATH. I AM NOT SATISFIED THE DEALERSHIP OR FCA ADEQUATELY ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE. LASTLY, SEVERAL ONLINE JEEP FORUMS HAVE INDICATED AND DEMONSTRATED VERY SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON THIS MODEL AND YEAR OF THE VEHICLE.
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY @ APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, CAR LOST MOST STEERING CONTROL AND VIOLENTLY SWAYED FROM SIDE TO SIDE (FELT AS IF A TIRE HAD BLOWN OR COME OFF); IN INSIDE LANE OF 3 LANE ROAD; EXTREMELY HARD TO CONTROL VEHICLE. PUT ON FLASHERS; OTHER DRIVER'S ABLE TO SEE CONTROL ISSUE AND ALLOWED ME TO SHAKILY GET ACROSS OTHER TWO LANES TO SIDE OF ROAD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED AN UNKNOWN RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE "DEATH WOBBLE". MOUNTAIN VALLEY MOTORS, INC. (7535 APPALACHIAN HWY, BLUE RIDGE, GA 30513) PERFORMED THE RECALL REPAIR. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS TAKING A LONG ROAD TRIP, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE "DEATH WOBBLE". THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MILLER'S CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (48 KEELY ISLAND ROAD, MARTINSBURG, WV 25401, (888) 362-8027) TO HAVE THE RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED AGAIN. THE DEALER CLAIMED THAT THE ORIGINAL RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED INCORRECTLY AND THE PART WAS INSTALLED UPSIDE DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND ABLE TO BE DRIVEN HOME; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SHAKE. THE MOUNTAIN VALLEY DEALER STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED NEW INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO INSTALL THE PART, WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED CONFUSION. THE DEALER DID NOT KNOW WHEN THE INSTRUCTIONS WERE ISSUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
I'VE HAD ISSUES TURNING STEERING WHEEL DURING COLD MORNINGS (~30 DEGREE) WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I CAN ONLY TURN STEERING WHEELS ABOUT 5 DEGREES AND THEN MEET SOME RESISTANCE WHICH IT DOESN'T ALLOW ME TO CONTINUE THROUGH MY TURN. THIS HAPPENS FOR TURNING BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT DIRECTIONS. IT IS VERY SCARY AT HIGHWAY SPEED HEADING INTO AN EXIT RAMP OR IN THE MIDDLE OF A CURVE. I ONLY HAVE THIS ISSUE WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS LOW. IT HAD HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES THIS WEEK IN COLD MORNINGS.
WHILE IN MOTION DURING COLDER TEMPERATURES, MY STEERING WHEEL BECOMES STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE STIFFNESS IS PRESENT AT ALL SPEEDS, BUT MOST PREVALENT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS STIFFNESS EVENTUALLY FADES ONCE TEMPERATURES INCREASE OR THE VEHICLE HAS WARMED UP SUFFICIENTLY. THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN JEEP RELEASED TO FIX THIS ISSUE, AND I HAD IT APPLIED LAST WINTER, BUT THE ISSUE HAS RETURNED AGAIN. IT SEEMS THE SOFTWARE FIX THEY HAD APPLIED IS NOT PERMANENT. THIS ISSUE IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS AS IT CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO ALMOST LOCK UP WHEN TAKING A TURN. AT TIMES WHEN TEMPERATURES ARE VERY LOW, THE STEERING WHEEL STIFFNESS MAKES TURNING ON THE HIGHWAY VERY DIFFICULT.
REOCCURING ISSUE WITH STEERING WHEN DRIVING 55MPH AND ABOVE. CAR SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY WHEN HITTING A BUMP OR A CHANGE IN PAVEMENT, TO THE POINT I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND SLOW DOWN TO 40MPH. HAD A RECALL FOR THE STEERING DAMPER WHICH FIXED THE ISSUE A LITTLE BIT BUT NOW IT IS HAPPENING YET AGAIN. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE.
09/24/19 I NOTICED A HUGE STAIN UNDER THE RIGHT BACK SIDE ON MY JEEP AND COULD SMELL THE STRONG ODOR OF GAS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM AND THEY CHECKED IT THE WHOLE DAY AND STATED NOTHING WAS SHOWING OF A GAS LEAK OR COULD SMELL THE GAS. BROUGHT MY VEHICLE HOME UNSURE BECAUSE I HAD VIDEO OF HOW YOU COULD HEAR THE FUEL GURGLING FROM THE TANK. TODAY 11/09/19 AGAIN THE FUEL IS LEAKING I HAVE VIDEO SHOWING HOW THE FUEL IS GOING EVERYWHERE WHILE THE TRUCK IS PARKED AND HAD BEEN PARKED FOR 24 HOURS. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. IT'S SCARY TO DRIVE TO AND FROM WORK IN THE VEHICLE. I WAS FIRST TOLD FROM THE DEALERSHIP NOT TO OVERFILL MY TANK WHICH I DON'T NOR HAVE I EVER. I KNOW SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT WITH THIS GAS TANK. WHILE DRIVING OVER 50 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS IF I WANT TO TURN IT TO THE LEFT. DIFFICULT TO CHANGE LANES AND TURN ON UPCOMING CURVES WHICH CAN LEAD TO A BAD ACCIDENT. UPON SLOWING DOWN THE STEERING WHEEL UNLOCKS AND NOW GOES BACK TO NORMAL. ALSO WHILE DRIVING AND HITTING A SMALL BUMP OR A CHANGE IN THE PAVEMENT CAUSES STEERING WHEEL TO UNCONTROLLABLY SHAKE UNTIL I SLOW DOWN.
WHILE DRIVING ABOVE 60MPH IF I RUN OVER A POT HOLE OR A BRIDGE EXPANSION JOINT I LOSE MY STEERING .IF I DON'T SLOW DOWN TO 30MPH QUICKLY I WILL NOT HAVE CONTROL. THE PART THAT CONCERNS ME IS THAT I ALREADY WAS SERVICED FOR THE STEERING RECALL .
I WAS DRIVING MY JEEP ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65MPH AND DROVE OVER A SEAM(BUMP) IN THE ROAD. THE FRONT WHEELS AND STEERING WHEEL BEGAN THE SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND UNCONTROLLABLY. I HAD TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP IN ORDER FOR THE SHAKING TO STOP. FINDING A PLACE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP ON THE HIGHWAY IS NOT SAFE AT ALL.
WHEN VEHICLE IS ABOVE 60 MPH AND THE TEMP IS 35 OR BELOW THERE IS NO STEERING ASSIST. ITS AS IF THE VEHICLE HAS NO POWER STEERING, TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY CLAIMED NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE JEEP.
WHEN I HIT A SMALL BUMP GOING OVER 50MPH. SHAKES VIOLENTLY. JEEP HAS TRIED TO REPAIR TWICE. STILL DOES IT. VERY UNSAFE, ESPECIALLY FOR WINTER DRIVING.
I WAS DRIVING MY JEEP YESTERDAY MORNING GOING 60MPH. THE TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE 30'S. I WAS HEADING INTO A LEFT HAND TURN WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. I TAPPED ON THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AS I WAS AFRAID I WAS GOING TO RUN OFF THE ROAD WITH MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE JEEP. WHEN I SLOWED TO AROUND 40 MY JEEP STEERING CAME BACK. IT WAS A VERY SCARY SITUATION.
JUST HAD MY OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION DONE 11/1/2019 AND BEGIN EXPERIENCING WOBBLE IN FRONTEND AFTER GOING OVER SMALL BUMPS IN THE ROAD. NOW I SEE OTHER VEHICLES HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. SOMEONE DESCRIBED IT THE "DEATH WOBBLE" I AGREE I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO CRASH MY JEEP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EXTRA EFFORT WAS NEEDED TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT TURNING THE STEERING TO THE RIGHT OPERATED AS INTENDED; HOWEVER, WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT, THE WHEELS HESITATED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LINDSAY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (8100 CENTREVILLE RD, CITY OF MANASSAS, VA 20111, (888) 241-6888) TO BE DIAGNOSED, WHICH WAS STILL PENDING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 68116814. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,300. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 60MPH+ MY JEEP GOES INTO THE DEATH WOBBLE WHEN I HIT A ROUGH PATCH IN THE ROAD. THIS IS NOT A BUMP IN THE ROAD BUT A ROUGH PATCH! THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME MANY TIMES AND IT IS EXTREMELY SCARY! I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN TO AROUND 40MPH TO MAKE IT STOP SHAKING SIDE TO SIDE SO VIOLENTLY I CAN HARDLY KEEP IT ON THE ROAD. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN IN AND HAD THE UPGRADE DONE TO MY STEERING DAMPER. I HAVE NO MODIFICATIONS ON MY JEEP... I DRIVE IT AS PURCHASED. THIS RECENTLY HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH IN THE PASSING LANE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC... I'M LUCKY TO STILL BE ALIVE.
TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH AND WENT ACROSS THE METAL STRIP JUST BEFORE A BRIDGE. THE FRONT WHEELS STARTED WOBBLING VIOLENTLY AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK BAD AS WELL. THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES THIS TRIP AT THE SAME TYPE OF SITUATION. THE SECOND TIME I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN TO GET THE JEEP TO STOP WOBBLING BUT AN 18 WHEELER WAS DIRECTLY BEHIND ME AND ALMOST RAN UP THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE. I HAD THREE MISHAPS ALL THE SAME ON THIS TRIP. I USE THE JEEP AROUND TOWN, BUT WON'T DRIVE IT AT HIGH SPEEDS. I HAD THE DAMPER REPLACED IN THE JEEP THREE DAYS PRIOR TO THIS TRIP. THIS IS THE PART THAT FCA SAYS CAUSES THE PROBLEM. I HAVE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT NEXT WEEK TO HAVE THE JEEP CHECKED OUT. THE DATE THIS HAPPENED TO ME WAS NOV. 8TH, 2019. BEING A FIRST TIME OWNER OF A JEEP, I THINK I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WHEN I BOUGHT THE JEEP FROM THE DEALER.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY JEEP WRANGLER JL HIT A BUMP AND THE CAR STARTED SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. I WASN'T SURE WHAT WAS HAPPENING SO I SLOWED DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY IN CASE I NEEDED TO PULL OVER. THE SHAKING THEN STOPPED BUT AFTER ABOUT 15-20 SECONDS. NOT LESS THAT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD DID THIS EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN AGAIN AFTER I HIT A BUMP. IT LASTED JUST AS LONG AND DIDN'T STOP UNTIL I SLOWED DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY. I BELIEVE THIS IS RELATED TO AN ISSUE WITH THE FRONT SUSPENSION AND STEERING COLUMN.
SEVERE SHAKING IN FRONT END . ALSO POROSITY IN FRAME WELDS
EXESSIVE PLAY IN THE STEERING. HAVE HAD THE STABILIZER REPLACED, HAD THE TRACK BAR REPLACED, HAD THE STEERING BOX REPLACED, TIRES ROTATED AND BALANCED, STILL WALKING ALL OVER THE ROAD AND 3 INCHES OF PLAY BOTH WAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. NOT SAFE, DO NOT FEEL SAFE WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR.
HAD THE RECALL FOR THE STEERING DAMPENER DONE A COUPLE MONTHS AGO. EXPERIENCING EXTREME VIBRATION AND JERKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND VEHICLE AFTER GOING OVER MINOR IMPERFECTIONS IN THE ROAD. ONLINE RESEARCH FINDS IT TO BE THE "DEATH WOBBLE" WHERE I HAVE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN BELOW AROUND 40MPH. HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY SINCE GETTING THE RECALL. DID NOT HAPPEN PRIOR TO THE RECALL.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE GOES ALL OVER THE PLACES AND ITS HARD TO DRIVE IN ONE LANE. THE STEERING IS VERY LOSE TO DRIVE THEN OTHER JEEPS. ITS UNSAFE. I HAVE BEEN CONTACTING JEEP SO MANY TIMES BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT OR DID THE RECENT RECALL.
WHEN THE IN MOTION THE MOTOR HAS A STRONG NOISE LIKE THE PISTON WHERE BROKEN, I HAVE TAKE TO SERVICES DEALER AND THEY SAID IT NORMAL, THEN SECOND TIME THE HAD TO CLEAN THE PISTON THAT I PAID FOR $390.00. THE NOISE CONTINUED YOU FEEL LIKE THE MOTOR IS GOING TO EXPLODED. I WILL TAKE IT BACK FOR THE FOURTH TIME. I WORRY FOR MY SAFETY. THIS IS A NEW CAR THAT I BOUGHT I O MILEAGE. I WILL LIKE MY MONEY BACK IF THE NO SOLUTION.
FOLLOW UP TO SAFETY ISSUE ID 11164549 (STOCK VEHICLE) DEALERSHIP REPLACED STEERING DAMPER PER "STAR" RECOMMENDATION AT 2830 MILES DUE TO COMPLAINT OF "WOBBLE". I HAVE DRIVEN WITHOUT AN ISSUE UNTIL LAST WEEK AT 8450 MILES WHEN I HIT A TRANSITION/BUMP IN THE ROAD. JEEP "WOBBLES" ALL OVER THE ROAD AND DOESN'T STOP UNTIL SPEEDS ARE BELOW AT LEAST 40 MPH- NOT EXACTLY SAFE TO DO ON THE FREEWAY! TOOK JEEP BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY (AGAIN) REPLACED DAMPER TODAY (RECALL PART V-41). FIRST BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE JEEP STARTED TO WOBBLE. WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND THIS RECALL IS POINTLESS! PAPERWORK FROM THE DEALERSHIP STATES: "THE FACTORY RECALL CONCERNS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY OR OPERATIONAL ISSUES. THERE IS RISK TO YOU AND OTHERS SHOULD YOU DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE FACTORY RECALL SERVICES BEING COMPLETED. WE ADVISE YOU THEREFORE NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE FACTORY RECALL IS PERFORMED. SO, RECALL DONE....APPARENTLY IT'S STILL NOT SAFE!!
SIMILAR TO THE OCTOBER 30TH POST, DURING COLD MORNINGS (BELOW 45), WHEN FIRST GETTING ON THE ROAD I HAVE HAD SEVERE STEERING ISSUES. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS IN THE PAST WEEK, WHILE TRYING TO MAKE VERY SLIGHT LEFT TURNS TO STAY ON THE ROAD, IT HAS FELT AS IF POWER STEERING NO LONGER FUNCTIONS. DURING MY DRIVE THIS MORNING I HAD TO SLAM THE BRAKES AND PULL VERY HARD TO THE LEFT TO AVOID DRIVING INTO THE SAFETY RAIL (I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ON COUNTY ROAD). THE CONDITION GRADUALLY IMPROVES AND WITHIN 5-10 MINUTES APPEARS NO MORE. A FEW DAYS EARLIER I MADE IT LESS THAN A MILE DOWN THE SAME ROAD AND THE STEERING WAS SO UNRESPONSIVE I TURNED AROUND AS I FELT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND TOOK ANOTHER VEHICLE TO WORK. THAT MORNING MY TIRE SENSOR SHOWED VERY LOW PRESSURE SO I ASSUMED THAT WAS CAUSING THE STEERING ISSUE, BUT UPON TALKING WITH JEEP SERVICE THE TIRE SENSOR ALARM IS LIKELY DUE TO LOW TEMPS AND THE STEERING SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AFFECTED. I SPOKE WITH LOCAL JEEP SERVICE DEPARTMENT THIS AFTERNOON AND THEY ARE HAVING ME DROP OFF THE VEHICLE TOMORROW TO INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE.
MY STEERING IS LOOSE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS EVEN AFTER THE DAMPENER RECALL AND NEW TRAC BAR WERE INSTALLED. IT IS DANGEROUS ON THE HIGHWAY EVEN WITH A SMALL AMOUNT OF WIND.
ON 9/30/19 AT 4:30AM, ODOMETER READING OF 170 MILES, WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEED, APPROX 70 MPH, ON I-295, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE. IT WAS UNCONTROLLABLE UNTIL MY SPEED REDUCED TO 35 MPH. AT 35 MPH THE SHAKING BEGAN TO SUBSIDE WHILE I CONTINUED TO SLOW TO A STOP. THE INCIDENT APPEARED TO BE TRIGGERED BY A SLIGHT BUMP OR SEAM IN THE PAVEMENT. ON 9/30/19 THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AT CHERRY HILL DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP, 1708 W. MARLTON PIKE, CHERRY HILL NJ 08002. THEY DETERMINED CAUSE TO BE FAULTY STEERING DAMPER AND REPLACED IT WITH PART NUMBER 68251580AD WHICH I WAS TOLD WAS AN IMPROVED PART OVER THE ORIGINAL. AT FIRST THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE RESOLVED. THEN ON 11/3/19 AT 9:30PM, ODOMETER READING 1,490 MILES THE VIOLENT SHAKING OCCURRED AGAIN. CIRCUMSTANCES WERE THE SAME, TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, APPROX 70 MPH, HAD TO REDUCE SPEED TO STOP THE SHAKING, AGAIN ON I-295 BUT DIFFERENT LOCATION, AGAIN APPARENTLY TRIGGERED BY A SLIGHT BUMP OR SEAM IN THE PAVEMENT.
