SATURDAY 11-2-19 WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY I HIT A SLIGHT BUMP GOING OVER A BRIDGE AND MY JEEP STARTED SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY. I SLOWED DOWN AND IT STOPPED WHEN I GOT TO ABOUT 40MPH. WHILE DRIVING HOME ON THE SAME DAY I HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN AGAIN ON THE SAME FREEWAY AFTER HITTING A BUMP AT A SEAM IN THE ROAD GOING OVER A BRIDGE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ONCE MORE SINCE THEN BUT SEEMINGLY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE SO NOW IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE ON WHAT FEELS LIKE THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT AND ONCE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT. I AM NOW NERVOUS DRIVING AS MOST OF MY MILES ARE DONE ON THE HIGHWAY AND IN OHIO THEY CAN'T SEEM TO GET THE SEAMS OVER BRIDGES SMOOTH SO NOW I AM WHITE KNUCKLING IT EVERY TIME I HAVE TO GO OVER ONE. I STOPPED AT THE DEALERSHIP ON 11-6-2019 AND WAS TOLD THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE STEERING DAMPER THAT NEEDS DONE, I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT ON 11-8-19 TO GET THIS FIXED. I HAVE NOT HAD ANYTHING MAILED TO ME LETTING ME KNOW OF A RECALL AND I JUST HAD MY JEEP THERE FOR SERVICE 2 WEEKS AGO (OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION). IF THERE WAS A PENDING RECALL SHOULD THEY NOT HAVE ATTENDED TO IT WITHOUT ME HAVING TO EXPERIENCE THE UNDERLYING ISSUE IN THE FIRST PLACE? WHEN I ENTER MY VIN NUMBER ON THIS SITE IT DOESN'T SHOW ANY PENDING RECALLS, DOES CHRYSLER/FIAT KNOW OF THE ISSUE AND ONLY DEAL WITH IT WHEN YOU HAVE IT OR IS THERE AN ACTUAL RECALL THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SENT OUT? WHEN DOING 70 ON THE FREEWAY IT IS NOT ALWAYS EASY TO SLOW DOWN OR GET OVER WITHOUT POSSIBLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT...THEY NEED TO GET THIS TAKEN CARE OF AND CORRECT ANY UNDERLYING ISSUES BEFORE PEOPLE START CAUSING ACCIDENTS AND SOMEONE ENDS UP DEAD!
WHEN DRIVING OVER SPEEDS OF 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, AND HITTING EVEN THE SLIGHTEST OF BUMPS, MY JEEP STEERING WAS UNCONTROLLABLE, AND I IMAGINE THIS IS THE "DEATH WOBBLE" I HAVE HEARD ABOUT OCCURRING IN JEEPS. THE ONLY WAY TO MANAGE IT WAS TO SLOW WAY DOWN TO 35 MPH AND AVOID BUMPS OF ANY KIND.
THIS VEHICLE EXHIBITS A DEAD SPOT AT 12 OCLOCK/DEAD CENTER CAUSING OSCILLATIONS OF THE STEERING WHEEL TO STAY STRAIGHT ON THE ROAD. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN INTO DEALER SERVICE NO LESS THAN 8 TIMES IN THE FIRST 11 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP. THIS IS STILL NOT RECTIFIED, HOWEVER, I AM WORKING WITH THE AREA TECH ON FURTHER FIXES/OPTIONS.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT ANY RATE OF SPEED MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP ON ME IF TURNING EVEN SLIGHTLY. IT ALMOST FEELS AS IF I AM LOSTING POWER STEERING. WHEN THIS HAPPENS I HAVE TO PULL REALLY HARD TO GET THE VEHICLE TO TURN BUT THEN IT COULD LET LOOSE AT ANY TIME SO WHEN THAT HAPPENS IT ALMOST PUTS ME IIJ N THE DITCH BECAUSE I AM ALREADY PULLING SO HARD ON THE WHEEL. THE ONLY TIME THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN IS WHEN IT IS BELOW ABOUT 30F. WHICH OVER HALF THE YEAR WHERE I LIVE. IT IS A DAILY OCCURRENCE IN THESE TEMPS AND WILL HAPPEN IF I'M GOING 10MPH OR 90MPH.
MY JEEP STEERING WHEEL IS BINDING UP AND IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. I ALMOST GOT INTO A MAJOR ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF IT YESTERDAY IN A SNOWSTORM WHEN A GUY STOPPED SHORT IN FRONT OF ME AND I COULD NOT GET THE WHEEL TO TURN LEFT WITHOUT JAMMING MY BRAKES AND DRASTICALLY REDUCING SPEED WHICH THEN FREE'D THE WHEEL UP AND LET ME TURN LEFT. IT JUST STARTED HAPPENING NOW IN THE COLDER WEATHER AND SOME OF THE THINGS I HAVE READ SAY IT MAY BE RELATED TO COLD WEATHER. IT IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE WHEEL LEFT AT HIGH SPEEDS OF 50-60+ MPH AND THE WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKS UP WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT. THIS HAPPENS AT HIGH SPEEDS AND IS A MAJOR CONCERN IF I NEEDED TO CHANGE TO LEFT LANE QUICKLY OR AM TAKING A LONG LEFT TURN ON AN ON/OFF RAMP. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN CONSIDERING I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO TURN LEFT TO AVOID AN OBSTACLE SUCH AS AN ACCIDENT IN FRONT OF ME. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED JEEP HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED THIS ISSUE AND ISSUED A RECALL BECAUSE THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHERS DESCRIBING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. STEERING LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING. ISSUE HAPPENED TWICE AND THE DEALER STATED THEY FIXED IT. ISSUE STILL PERSISTS
AT 9700 MILES BOTH MY WIFE AND I EXPERIENCED THE WRANGLER FRONT END WOBBLE. SPEED WAS APPROX 60 - 65 MPH ON A PAVED BYPASS. BOTH TIMES IT WAS WHEN WE WERE TRANSITIONING FROM A BRIDGE TO THE PAVEMENT. THIS HAPPENED AT DIFFERENT TIMES AND DIFFERENT LOCATIONS ON THE BYPASS. THIS WOBBLE IS A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE, AND YOUR NOT SURE WHAT TO DO TO STOP IT.
MY JEEP HAS A "DEATH WOBBLE" THAT HAPPENS IN EXCESS OF 50 MILES AN HOUR IF THE JEEP HITS ROUGH ROAD, UNEVEN PAVEMENT OR GOING INTO A CURVE ON THE INTERSTATE, IT WILL BEGIN TO SHAKE SO VIOLENTLY ITS AS THOUGH THERE IS A MINI EARTHQUAKE INSIDE THE JEEP. IT IS TERRIFYING. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT AFTER TAKING MY JEEP TO TWO DIFFERENT JEEP DEALERSHIPS IN TWO DIFFERENT STATES, THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIX THIS ISSUE. NOTE THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE I BOUGHT THE JEEP IN 2019, IT SEEMED TO GET BETTER AFTER I TOOK IT IN FOR THE ORIGINAL RECALL, BUT SINCE OCT 2020 HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE AFTER THE JEEP DEALERSHIP HAS WORKED ON IT. SINCE OCT 2020 AND AS OF NOV 28 2020, I HAVE TAKEN THE JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS ISSUE 3 TIMES, I WILL HAVE A 4TH UNDER MY BELT WHEN THEY RECEIVE SOME OTHER PART THEY SAY THEY JUST FOUND AND NEED TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE.
AT 65 MPH HIGHWAY SPEEDS, WHEN VEHICLE HITS A POTHOLE OR BUMP; VEHICLE WOBBLES, SHAKES, AND LOSES STEERING CONTROL. AS KNOWN "DEATH WOBBLE." OCCURS ON A REGULAR BASIS.
TRAVELING STRAIGHT AT 72MPH (CRUISE SET) ON INTERSTATE 69 CROSSED A SLIGHTLY ROUGH BRIDGE EXPANSION JOINT. VEHICLE STARTED TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE. SEVERE STEERING WHEEL OSCILLATION. THE SHAKING STOPPED WHEN VEHICLE WAS SLOWED TO AROUND 20MPH. JEEP HAS APPROXIMATELY 6,000 MILES. THE NEW STEERING DAMPER RECALL HAS ALREADY BEEN INSTALLED. THE JEEP HAS THE STEERING DAMPER RECALL ALREADY INSTALLED.*DT*JB*DT CONSUMER STATED TOOK THE JEEP BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP 11-26-19. THE V41 REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING STABILIZER HAD BEEN INSTALLED BACKWARDS. SO FAR NO ISSUES WITH THE STEERING.*JB
JUST GOT ONTO HIGHWAY, GOING ABOUT 72 MPH, HIT A SMALL BUMP AND CAR STARTED VIOLENTLY SHAKING (FREQUENTLY REFERRED TO AS DEATH WOBBLE). ONCE I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED THE WOBBLE WENT AWAY. THIS HAPPENED THE DAY AFTER I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN FOR A RECALL TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN DAMPER WHICH SUPPOSEDLY CAUSED THIS PROBLEM TO BEGIN WITH. NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM UNTIL I BROUGHT IT IN FOR THE RECALL. BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TWO DAYS LATER AND THEY TOLD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT BUT IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN TO BRING IT BACK IN. THEY TOLD ME MY WHEELS WERE SLIGHTLY OUT OF ALIGNMENT WHICH MAY HAVE CAUSED IT BUT THERE IS NO WAY; THE VEHICLE WAS SHAKING VIOLENTLY BACK AND FORTH, IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH A SLIGHTLY OFF ALIGNMENT.
JUST HAD THE STEERING DAMPER RECALL PERFORMED - NEVER HAD ANY WOBBLE ISSUES BEFORE COMPLETING THE RECALL. I COMPLETED THE RECALL AS I THOUGHT THAT WAS WHAT GOOD CAR OWNERS DO. NOW, JUST 3 DAYS LATER I AM EXPERIENCING THE WOBBLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. VERY SCARY! HAD THE ENTIRE FAMILY IN THE CAR COMING HOME FROM DINNER - DID NOT HIT ANY IRREGULAR BUMPS OR ANYTHING OUT OF THE NORM. WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ON A STRETCH WE DRIVE ALMOST DAILY AND OUT OF NOWHERE, JUST HITTING SOME "NORMAL" MICHIGAN ROAD BUMPS THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT END STARTED SHAKING. IT EVENTUALLY STOPPED ITSELF - BUT THEN HAPPENED 5 MORE TIMES. WE DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON AS WE WERE NOT AWARE OF THE ISSUE OR EVEN WHY THERE WAS A RECALL REPAIR. AFTER GETTING HOME AND SEARCHING THE INTERNET I FOUND ALL SORTS OF COMPLAINTS AND THE REASONING BEHIND THE RECALL. IRONICALLY AGAIN, I DID NOT HAVE THE ISSUE BEFORE I HAD THE RECALL WORK COMPLETED. AFTER READING THE ARTICLE I IMMEDIATELY LEFT A MESSAGE FOR MY SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEN LOOKED UNDER THE JEEP TO CONFIRM THAT IN-FACT THE PART WAS REPLACED AND HAD THE CORRECT PART NUMBER. I DO WANT TO MENTION THAT EVEN BEFORE THE WOBBLE I DID MENTION TO MY WIFE AND NOTICE THAT I THOUGHT THAT THE STEERING WAS A BIT MORE "LOOSE" AFTER GETTING THE CAR BACK. NOT SURE IF THAT IS RELEVANT, BUT THOUGHT I WOULD NOTE THAT HERE AS WELL.
I have had an issue since the vehicle was 6 months old, When applying the brakes, the pedal is low (half way to the floor), not a good feeling. When I do a quick pump, the pedal comes up to safe, responsive level and I get a good safe stop. I don't tow much, but i occasionally tow a small boat, I then don't feel safe at all. I have had it in to the dealer no less than 6 times for the issue and they claim all is ok. I have also paid to have an independent shop look at it and they do find it a problem and even a fix as when they pinched off the front hoses, the pedal was right up top. The last time at the dealer I was told that Jeep does realize that they have an issue but cannot supply replacement parts as they are needed for the cars being built...PLEASE HELP!
WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING APPEARS TO BE LOCKING UP
VIOLENT SHAKING WHILE HIGHWAY SPEED OVER 55MPH WHEN DRIVING NORMALLY. AND DISAPPEARED SLOWLY WHEN IT REDUCE DOWN TO 52MPH.
DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AROUND 65MPH WHEN THE VIOLENT DEATH WOBBLE HAPPENED. GRABBED THE STEERING WHEEL WITH BOTH HANDS AND WAS ABLE TO STEER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 35MPH WHEN IT STOPPED. I CONTINUED ON MY WAY AND HAVEN'T HAD THE PROBLEM RETURN. THE JEEP ONLY HAS ABOUT 6300 MILES ON IT. IT HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN OFF-ROAD. I HAVE ALWAYS FELT THE STEERING HAS BEEN RATHER LOOSE FOR A NEW VEHICLE COMPARED TO OTHERS I'VE DRIVEN. CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE IS A RECALL (V41) FOR A STEERING DAMPENER PART THAT IS ON BACKORDER THAT SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THE DEATH WOBBLE. WE SHALL SEE...
VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE FRONT END AFTER HITTING A BUMP AT APPROXIMATELY 65-75 MPH. SHAKING WILL ONLY STOP AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. ONLY 4000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE.
SINCE OWNERSHIP OF THE 2018 JEEP WRANGLER JL IT HAS HAD A STEERING PROBLEM AND IT WILL WANDER AND YOU WILL HAVE TO CONSTANTLY DEATH GRIP THE WHEEL AT ALL TIMES WITH BOTH HANDS. BUMP CAN AND WILL JERK THE CAR WHICH CAN THROW IT INTO ANOTHER LANE THUS DAMAGING VEHICLES OR SERIOUSLY HURTING ME/OTHERS AND MAY CAUSE DEATH. I HAVE CONTACTED FCA ABOUT THIS MATTER, THEY HAVE ISSUED A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THE JEEP HAS BEEN LIFTED PER A MOPAR (MANUFACTURER) LIFT 2.5" WITH 35" TIRES WHICH ARE BY NO MEANS OVER SIZED. FCA STATED IN A PHONE CALL WITH ME THAT THEY WANT TO SEE IT WHEN STOCK TIRES, THEN THEY COULD HELP, HOW WOULD HAVING 31" (STOCK) TIRES BE SAFE THAT IS A ROLLOVER WAITING TO HAPPEN. THIS STEERING IS MOST NOTABLE AROUND 50+MPH AND CAN BE SCARY TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY/INTERSTATE AS SOME LANES ARE NARROW.
I EXPERIENCED RAPID STEERING OSCILLATION THIS LAST THURSDAY 10/17/19 ON MY *NEW 2018 WRANGLER JLU (NOT LIFTED) WHILE TAKING A TRIP OUT OF TOWN. WE HIT A RAILROAD TRACK AT AROUND 55 MPH AND IT WENT FULL-ON RAPID STEERING OSCILLATION (DEATH WOBBLE). HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND STOP THE VEHICLE FOR THE DW TO STOP. STOPPED BY AN OUT OF TOWN DEALER IN PASO ROBLES, CA AND THEY SAID THE RECENTLY REPLACED (RECALL V41) STEERING STABILIZER WAS INSTALLED UPSIDE DOWN. I HAVE NOW ORDERED A NEW RUBICON EXPRESS TRACK BAR AND FOX 2.0 STABILIZER TO SEE IF THIS WILL HELP ELIMINATE THE WOBBLE. I'VE OWNED TWO JK JEEP WRANGLERS IN THE PAST AND DIDN'T EXPERIENCE ANY OF OSCILLATION. *PURCHASED NEW 2018 JLU WRANGLER FROM DEALER LAST MONTH. THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME OF THE EVENT WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,400 MILES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE WOBBLED UNCONTROLLABLY. THE DRIVER HAD TO REDUCE THE SPEED TO 50 MPH TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,408.
2018 JEEP WRANGLER JK. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO A FAULTY TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR WHICH CAUSED VEHICLE TO NOT START ON OCCASION. *AS *JS
STIFF STEERING IN COOL WEATHER. EXACT LIKENESS TO COMPLAINT DATED, OCTOBER 8, 2019 NHTSA ID NUMBER: 11267140, WITH SIMILAR VIN. COMPONENTS: STEERING WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES IN 30 TO 50 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, THE STEERING STIFFENS TO THE POINT THAT THE FORCE TO OVERCOME THE STIFFNESS AND CONTINUE INTO THE CURVE CREATES UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION. THIS CONCERN WAS EXPRESSED TO THE DEALERSHIP'S MECHANICS, BUT WERE NOT ABLE TO RECREATE THE SAME EXPERIENCE. VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT IN DECEMBER 2018. STIFFNESS IN STEERING WAS FIRST NOTICED IN THE SPRING OF 2019. NO PROBLEMS THROUGH SUMMER OF 2019. STEERING STIFFNESS RESURFACED LAST WEEK WITH FALL TEMPERATURES DROPPING INTO THE 30'S. THIS MORNING, 10/15/2019, STEERING WAS WORSE THEN AND MORE DIFFICULT TO OVERCOME. I HAVE NOT SCHEDULED FOR DAMPNER SERVICE TO DATE. REFERENCE TO SIMILAR COMPLAINT, "WHEN TEMPS HERE DROPPED INTO THE 40'S, I NOTICED AT 50-55 MPH, IT FELT LIKE SOMEONE WAS PUTTING THEIR HAND ON THE WHEEL AND TRYING TO HOLD IT STILL. IT WAS RESISTANT TO TURN VERY FAR THEN SUDDENLY WOULD "LET GO", ........."
WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 60 MPH STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND WON'T TURN PAST A CERTAIN POINT.
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 65 MPH, THE STEERING OF THE JEEP SHAKES VIOLENTLY, LEFT TO RIGHT, CAUSE ME TO SLOW DOWN AND IN SOME CASES PULL OVER TO THE SIDE TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS EVENT HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 6 TIMES SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE JEEP. WE HAVE TAKEN THE DEALER (ADAMS JEEP IN CHURCHVILLE). AND THEY HAVE ONLY MADE SOME ADJUSTMENTS THAT HAVE NOT WORKED.
DEATH WOBBLE AT SPEED BETWEEN 60 TO 70 ONLY 10,800 MILES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 72 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHOOK WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CALL THE DEALER. THE CONTACT CALLED THREE DIFFERENT DEALERS, INCLUDING GLOCKNER OF ASHLAND AT 606-559-0217 (LOCATED AT 1041 GREENUP AVE, ASHLAND, KY 41101) AND WAS INFORMED NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND TO BRING IT TO THE SHOP. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE EARLIEST THE VEHICLE COULD BE INSPECTED WOULD BE OCTOBER 23, 2019. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 12,000.
IN JULY OF 19 I PURCHASED MY 2018 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT S 4DR FROM A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. ABOUT 1000 MILES INTO OWNERSHIP I BEGAN NOTICING LOOSE STEERING WITH EXCESSIVE PLAY. I TOOK THE JEEP IN FOR SERVICE AND A FLASH TSB WAS PERFORMED, THE PROBLEM WAS BETTER, BUT STILL PRESENT. AT THE SAME TIME I WAS ALSO PART OF THE WELD RECALL NO REPAIR NEEDED. I STARTED NOTICING SHUTTERING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AFTER HITTING BUMPS. I HAD THE SUSPENSION CHECKED WHEN I WENT IN FOR THE SECOND WELD RECALL NOTICE ON MY JEEP IN 01/19, IT WAS OK ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP. 02/19 I EXPERIENCED EXCESSIVE VIBRATION/SHUTTERING OF THE FRONTEND AFTER HITTING A BUMP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. DID NOT STOP UNTIL I SLOWED TO ABOUT 40MPH. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP, AN UPGRADED STEERING DAMPENER WAS PLACED ON THE VEHICLE. SHUTTERING CONTINUED. 10/19 SHUTTERING GETS WORSE. TAKEN TO THE SHOP, DAMPENER REPLACED AGAIN, CANT DUPLICATE LOCK UP. I CONTACTED JEEP CARES AND FCA. 11/19 VEHICLE IS TAKEN TO THE SHOP AGAIN FOR 2 WEEKS. SHOP ACKNOWLEDGES STEERING IS LOOSER THAN IT SHOULD BE. STEERING GEAR IS REPLACED. AFTER GETTING VEHICLE BACK STEERING IS TIGHT BUT NOW WANDERING ALL OVER THE PLACE, CANT KEEP JEEP IN A STRAIGHT LINE ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEED. 12/19 VEHICLE IS TAKEN BACK TO SHOP ALIGNMENT IS PERFORMED. AFTER A COUPLE HUNDRED MILES I NOTICE STEERING IS LOOSE AND THERE IS A DEAD SPOT IN THE STEERING AGAIN. I RELAY THIS TO FCA. 01/19 FCA REGIONAL TECH DRIVES VEHICLE, SAYS ITS DRIVING AS DESIGNED, CHECKS ALIGNMENT AND ADJUSTS CASTER. PROBLEMS WITH LOOSE STEERING AND DEADSPOT PERSIST. JEEPS DEGREE OF WANDERING DEPENDS ON CONDITIONS SEEMS EVEN MORE DIFFICULT TO OPERATE ON WINDY DAYS THAN IT WAS BEFORE STEERING GEAR CHANGE. TAKES CONSTANT CORRECTIONS TO KEEP IT GOING STRAIGHT.
WANDERING AND LOOSE STEERING ISSUE PERSIST. 1. STEERING WANDERING FIRST WHEEL ALIGNMENT WAS OFF AND IT HAD TO BE REDONE. PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED THAN WAS INFORMED THAT WRANGLERS AREN'T MEANT TO GO HIGHWAY SPEEDS. 2. AC BLOWS OUT WARM AIR AND WAS TOLD THAT'S NORMAL. TODAY I BROUGHT IN FOR THE FIRST OIL CHANGE AND 3. STEERING DAMPER RECALL. WELL GOOD THING I DOUBLE CHECKED THEIR WORK. THEY INSTALLED THE REPLACEMENT RECALLED PART THE WRONG WAY. NOW THE JEEP WANDERING IS WORSE AND THE VEHICLE SHAKES AT HIGHWAY SPEED. WE CAN'T KEEP THE JEEP STRAIGHT.
WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 60 TO 70 MPH THE FRONT END OF MY VEHICLE WILL START TO OSCILLATE VIOLENTLY WITHOUT RECOVER UNLESS COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE OSCILLATION WILL BEGIN AT THE SPEEDS MENTIONED AFTER RUNNING ACROSS A CHANGE IN THE ROAD CONDITIONS SUCH AS A CHANGE IN PAVEMENT OR A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THIS OSCILLATION OCCURRED TWO TIME IN THE LAST 7 DAYS. A RECALL REPAIR REGARDING A STEERING DAMPER WAS COMPLIED ON 9-12-2019.
THE FIRST TIME I EXPERIENCED MY STEERING LOCKING UP ON ME I WAS GOING THROUGH AN S CURVE ABOUT 15-20 MPH AND WHEN TURNED TO THE RIGHT MY STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY FELT AS IF IT WAS STUCK IN THAT POSITION ABOUT 30 DEGREES TO THE RIGHT OF CENTER. I HAD TO YANK THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT REALLY HARD IN ORDER FOR IT TO BREAK FREE FROM THAT LOCKED POSITION. THIS SCARED ME SO MUCH I DROVE MY JEEP STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP PROCEEDED TO CHECK FOR RECALLS OR TSB'S AND OTHER COMPUTER CHECKS AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. FROM THERE THEY TRIED TO REPLICATE THE STEERING PROBLEM BUT COULD NOT SO I WAS LEFT WITH NO ANSWERS. AFTER READING MANY POSTS OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE NEW JL MODEL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE I DECIDED TO LEAVE MY JEEP OUTSIDE IN THE COLD AND TEST DRIVE IT WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD. I FOUND THAT MY STEERING WHEEL FELT LIKE THE POWER STEERING WAS OUT. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS CATCHING IN MANY PLACES, BUT AGAIN WORSE TO THE RIGHT. IN MY OPINION IT SEEMS TO BE SOME KIND OF POWER STEERING ISSUE.
WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE VEHICLE SOMETIMES STARTS TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY WITH THE STEERING WHEEL AND ENTIRE VEHICLE WOBBLING UNCONTROLLABLY. THE ONLY WAY TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK UNDER CONTROL IS TO SLOW DOWN OR SOMETIMES BRING IT TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS CREATES A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND YOU HAVE TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP FROM GOING 75 MPH WITH TRAFFIC. THE DEALER HAS PUT IN TWO DIFFERENT STEERING DAMPERS AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY.
JEEP IS LESS THAN 12 MONTHS OLD AND THE STITCHING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE REAR SEAT IS MISSING. HAVE TRIED TO TELL THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT IS NOT "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR". NOTHING SITS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BACK SEAT. THE DRIVERS SEAT STITCHING WOULD GO WAY BEFORE DUE TO WEAR. DEALER IN LONGMONT, CO TOLD US THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT HE COULD DO AFTER HE MADE US WAIT WEEKS AND WE HAD TO DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES. MULTIPLE CALLS WERE MADE THAT WERE IGNORED. FINALLY WE WENT IN AND WERE TOLD THAT WE SHOULD BRING IT IN THE NEXT DAY AND THEY WOULD GET IT TAKEN CARE OF AND THAT THEY HAD TO HAVE THE PICTURES WE SENT THEM SENT OFF TO MAKE SURE IT COULD BE WARRANTED. NOPE. ANOTHER LIE FROM THE DEALERSHIP. WHAT A SHAME. I LOVE MY JEEP, BUT THE SERIVE THAT COMES WITH THE "JEEP CARES" AND ALL OF THE EXTRA WARRANTY MUMBO-JUMBO IS A JOKE. WHEN YOU PAY $55K+ FOR A VEHICLE, YOU WOULD AT LEAST EXPECT IT TO LAST A YEAR.
OUR HIGH DEFROST SETTING ONLY WORKS ON THE CENTER 12" OF OUR JEEP WINDSHIELD. THE 1/3 ON BOTH SIDES, DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE ARE GETTING ZERO DEFROSTING AIR. MY BROTHERS 2019 AND HUNDREDS OF OTHER 2018 AND 2019 JEEPS ALSO HAVE THIS PROBLEM ACCORDING TO BLOGS. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT OUR DEFROST IS WORKING THE SAME AS OTHER NEW JEEPS ON THE LOT AND REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE DANGEROUS DESIGN FLAW. I HAVE INSTALLED DUCT TAPE ON THE CENTER PORTION OF THE DEFROST VENT TO REDIRECT THE AIR TO THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS SIDE WINDSHIELD. I PLAN TO MAKE A PATIAL PERMINANT BLOCK FROM PLASTIC AND INSTALL IT TODAY. WE LIVE IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS AND THIS JEEP WOULD BE UNDRIVABLE IN THE WINTER WITHOUT DEFROST AIR FLOW AFTERMARKET REDIRECTION. ZERO DEFROST AIR HITS THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WITHOUT THE AFTERMARKET FIX. JEEP OWNERS ARE IN REAL DANGER IF THEIR WINDSHEILD FOGS UP. WE TURNED ON OUR DEFROST TO HIGH HEAT AND AIRFLOW TO REMOVE ICE FROM AN ICE STORM A FEW DAYS AGO. ONLY THE CENTER 12-14" WERE MELTED.
WHEN TEMPS HERE DROPPED INTO THE 40'S, I NOTICED AT 50-55 MPH, IT FELT LIKE SOMEONE WAS PUTTING THEIR HAND ON THE WHEEL AND TRYING TO HOLD IT STILL. IT WAS RESISTANT TO TURN VERY FAR THEN SUDDENLY WOULD "LET GO", WHICH, I FEEL, IS VERY DANGEROUS. I CAME VERY CLOSE TO HEADING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IT'S HAPPENED TWICE WITH 4 DAYS AND HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE NOW (HAD IT TOWED FROM MY PLACE OF WORK THE DAY IT HAPPENS ON 10/4/19 AND HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY, 10/8/19). I HAVE ALREADY COME SO CLOSE TO BEING IN ONE ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS ISSUE. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE--OTHER THAN THE V41 RECALL REPAIR (NEW DAMPER). I HAVE A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER JLU SAHARA WITH 4,186 MILES ON IT. I AM EXPERIENCING VERY LOOSE STEERING ON MY VEHICLE. THE STEERING WHEEL HAS A DEAD SPOT OF ABOUT 2 INCHES IN EITHER DIRECTION FROM CENTER.THIS BECOMES INCREASINGLY NOTICEABLE AS SPEED INCREASES AND ONCE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IS EXTREMELY UNSTABLE. MY JEEP BEGAN WOBBLING A FEW MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED IT LAST JULY 2018.WOBBLING HAS ONLY OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THEY DID A COMPUTER UPDATE LAST YEAR THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT ON 10/5/19 MY JEEP BEGAN TO WOBBLE UNCONTROLLABLY ANY TIME I REACHED 50 OR ABOVE. I TOOK IT IN ON MONDAY 10/13 AND WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS REPAIRED BUT THE NEXT DAY WHILE DOING 50MPH IT BEGAN TO WOBBLE. THE TEMPERATURE READS 800 DEGREES RANDOMLY SINCE THE START AND THEY FINALLY TOLD ME PROBLEM WAS FIXED. THE CARS STALLS RANDOMLY AT RED LIGHTS AND I NEED TO TURN IT OFF AND RESTART IT. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE GAS PETAL LOCKS AND I AM NOT ABLE TO DO ANYTHING UNLESS I RESTART THE CAR. WE DROVE OUR 2018 JEEP WRANGLER ABOUT 15 MPH DOWN A RESIDENTIAL STREET, SLOWED DOWN, TURNED RIGHT, AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP! IT WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL AND THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. WE HAD PURCHASED THE CAR ON OCT. 1, 2019, FROM A LOCAL CAR DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP HAD BEEN USING THIS CAR AS A LOANER VEHICLE FOR FOUR MONTHS. THE NEXT WEEKEND WE TRAVELED TO SUGAR GROVE, IL, TO VISIT RELATIVES. ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON, ONE OWNER ENTERED THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR TO PROGRAM AN ADDRESS IN THE NAVIGATION APP. HE USED THE ACC FUNCTION WITHOUT FULLY TURNING ON THE CAR. AFTER 15-20 MINUTES, THE CO-OWNER ENTERED THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CAR AND DID NOT TURN THE ACC OFF BEFORE PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND STARTING THE CAR. THAT IS WHEN, AFTER A SLOW RIGHT TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND WOULD NOT BUDGE. THE DRIVER TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN ON SEVERAL TIMES AND THEN TRIED PUTTING THE CAR IN REVERSE. FINALLY THE STEERING WHEEL MOVED. WE WERE SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES FROM HOME IN A CAR THAT DID NOT FEEL SAFE. WE CALLED THE NEAREST JEEP DEALER, WHICH WAS IN NORTH AURORA, IL. IT WAS LATE AFTERNOON AND ALMOST CLOSING TIME, BUT THEY TOLD US TO BRING IT OVER AND THEY WOULD SEE WHAT THEY COULD DO. THEY ENTERED THE CAR'S VIN IN THE COMPUTER AND FOUND THAT A RECALL FOR A STEERING DAMPER (V41) HAD NOT BEEN DONE. THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART IN STOCK, BUT WERE SURE THAT THIS WOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK UP. NEXT, THEY DID SOME TESTS ON THE VEHICLE BUT DID NOT FIND ANYTHING. WE FELT EXTREMELY NERVOUS, BUT DROVE IT HOME AND TOOK IT TO THE SELLER'S DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED THE RECALLED STEERING DAMPER AND DID A TSB 08-092-18 TO ADDRESS A STEERING ISSUE. THEN THEY TOLD US THAT THERE WERE NO GUARANTEES THAT IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN BECAUSE THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK UP. THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED!

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FLY WHEEL WAS ON BACKORDER ACROSS THE NATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000.

CONDITION INTENSIFIES UNTIL SPEED IS BROUGHT DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH (VERY DANGEROUS IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC). THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER BEFORE I TOOK DELIVERY OF THE JEEP. UNFORTUNATELY THE VIOLENT STEERING SHAKE (DEATH WOBBLE) PERSISTS WHEN ENCOUNTERING UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE STILL CONTINUES TO GO INTO FULL BLOWN DEATH WOBBLE. 2018 WRANGLER JLU 23,000 MILES. NO MODIFICATIONS AT ALL, HAD THE STEERING STABILIZER REPLACED BY THE DEALER TODAY FOR THE THIRD TIME. STEERING SHAKE BEGAN AT ABOUT 12,000 MILES, HIGHWAY SPEEDS HITTING SMALL POT HOT, BUMP OR EXPANSION JOINT ON A BRIDGE. STEERING WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND MAKE IT VERY HARD TO CONTROL. PROBLEM WENT AWAY AFTER STEERING STABILIZER WAS REPLACED BY SELLING DEALER. PROBLEM HAS RETURNED AND WAS BROUGHT BACK TO SAME DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THEY SAID THERE WAS AN OPEN RECALL ON THE STEERING STABILIZER THAT JUST CAME OUT AND WAS TO REPAIR "DEATH WOBBLE" THEY WERE CONFIDENT IT WAS FIXED. ROAD TESTED AFTER AND SAID IT GOOD TO GO. I DROVE IT AND IT HAPPENED THE VERY NEXT DAY. I BROUGHT IT BACK AND THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE IT BUT AGREED TO REPLACE THE RECALL PART. SAID MAYBE THEY GOT A DEFECTIVE ONE. BROUGHT BACK TO DEALER TODAY THEY INSTALLED ANOTHER NEW UPDATED STEERING STABILIZER. THE SERVICE MANAGER AN I WENT FOR A RIDE AFTER THE THIRD STEERING STABILIZER WAS INSTALLED. 62-68 MPH SMALL DEFECT IN THE HIGHWAY SURFACE AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES LIKE CRAZY. IN ORDER TO MAKE IT STOP THE JLU NEEDS TO BE SLOWED DOWN BELOW 30 MPH..........NOT SAFE TO DO ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS EVENING AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE STEERING BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AGAIN. I TRIED TO FIND A SAFE SPOT TO SLOW DOWN. I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND BY AN 18 WHEELER. I TRIED TO TURN THE WHEEL IN AN EMERGENCY MANEUVER TO AVOID BEING REAR ENDED AND THE STEERING WAS NOT VERY RESPONSIVE AT ALL. IT WAS UNCONTROLLABLE AND VERY UNSAFE. MYSELF AND MY KIDS WERE VERY SHAKEN UP. WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN BEFORE THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE COMPLAINT IS INVESTIGATED??
WHILE MY 16-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER AND I WERE DRIVING ON THE FL 528/BEACHLINE EXPRESSWAY THE ENTIRE CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE ASSEMBLY EXPLODED OFF MY VEHICLE. FLUIDS DRAINED AND IGNITED. THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WAS BURNED TO ASHES. THE FULL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION REPORT IS INCLUDED IN THE UPLOAD.
