GOING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY MY JEEP VERY SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SHAKE/VIBRATE VERY VIOLENTLY. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS GOING TO COME APART/TIRES WERE GOING TO FALL OFF. AFTER SLOWING DOWN TO MAYBE 30 MPH THE SHAKING RESOLVED. JEEP HAS APPROXIMATELY 5800 MILES ON IT.
VEHICLE WILL NOT START AFTER LIGHT TO MODERATE USE. AFTER USING THE VEHICLE FOR 20-30 MINUTES AND IT IS TURNED OFF, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ALWAYS START BACK UP. IF THE TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE INDICATOR DOES NOT SWITCH FROM 163 DEGREES TO ABOVE 200 DEGREES, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT IMMEDIATELY START BACK UP IF IT IS TURNED OFF. IT SEEMS THAT THE VEHICLE IS SENDING THE WRONG TEMPERATURE TO THE STARTER AND IT IS PREVENTING IT FROM READING THE CORRECT TEMPERATURE WHICH WOULD ALLOW PROPER STARTUP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT BUT THEY SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO HELP ME SINCE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I SHOWED THEM VIDEO FOOTAGE OF THE VEHICLE NOT STARTING BUT THEY SAID THEY STILL COULD NOT HELP ME UNLESS THEY COULD REPRODUCE THE ISSUE. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST TEN TIMES NOW SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM (U87) BUT FOR SOME REASON, MY VEHICLE'S VIN NUMBER IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL.
WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH THE STEERING LOCKED UP AND I COULD NOT TURN. APPLIED BRAKES AND ADDITIONAL PRESSURE TO STEERING WHEEL AND WAS ABLE TO STEER VEHICLE ENOUGH TO AVOID ANY COLLISION, CAME TO A STOP AND STEERING SEEMED TO RETURN TO NORMAL. THIS HAPPENED AT ABOUT 9500 MILES. THIS HAPPENED 1/19 WAS DRIVING AT 55 MPH, AND HIT A DIP IN THE ROAD. THE ENTIRE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY, WENT LEFT OF CENTER, APPLIED BRAKES AND SLOWED VEHICLE DOWN. REGAINED ENOUGH STEERING TO RETURN TO MY LANE AT ABOUT 10/15 MPH. ON COMING TRAFFIC SLOWED TO A STOPPED TO ASSIST IN AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAPPENED AT ABOUT 11000 MILES. THIS HAPPENED 2/21/19
WOBBLE AFTER HITTING BUMP, EXPANSION JOINT, OR POT HOLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
WHEN TRAVELING ABOVE 70MPH AND HITTING A ROUGH PLACE ON THE ROAD THE STEERING SHAKES VIOLENTLY INCLUDING THE DASH UNTIL YOU SLOW DOWN TO 40MPH. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6+ TIMES NOW WITH THE LOCAL DEAL SHIP NOT KNOWING HOW TO FIX. WE WERE ALMOST REAR ENDED BECAUSE OF THIS. AND THANK GOODNESS THEIR WASN'T AN ABANDONED VEHICLE ON THE SHOULDER. WE HAVE A VIDEO OF THIS HAPPENING
VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKS UP WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AS YOU ARE UNABLE TO CORRECT WHEEL FOR UP TO 10 SECONDS. WHILE TSB 08-092-18 WAS ISSUED 7 MONTHS AGO THIS PRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT POSSIBILITY FOR ACCIDENT AND INJURY AND SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR ANYONE AFFECTED.
THE DEFROST WILL NOT CLEAR THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE IT BLOWS IN THE CENTER OF THE VENT AND THERE IS NO AIRFLOW ON THE DRIVER SIDE. IF THE WINDOW FOGS UP YOU HAVE TO PULL OVER SO YOU DO NOT WRECK. I HAVE A PHOTO OF THE ACTUAL WINDOW.
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX 60-65MPH, IN 30 DEGREE WEATHER AND ON THE HIGHWAY, I WAS COMING AROUND A BEND AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP. I COULD NOT TURN MY STEERING WHEEL AND ALMOST COLLIDED WITH A TRACTOR TRAILER AND WAS HEADING STRAIGHT INTO THE MEDIAN. AFTER PULLING ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND SLOWING DOWN, THE STEERING THEN LOOSEND AND MY CAR SWERVED ALMOST HITTING THE CAR IN THE NEXT LANE OVER. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON 2 OTHER SEPARATE OCCASIONS BESIDES THE ONE JUST EXPLAINED. I'M VERY CONCERNED OVER THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. THE DEALERSHIP 'COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM' SO NO REPAIR WAS DONE. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ASAP.
AT ROUGHLY 45 MPH STEERING SEEMED TO 'LOCK'... IT TOOK EXTREME FORCE TO TURN ENOUGH TO MAKE A SLIGHT CORNER WHILE DRIVING. THE SLIGHT CORNER IS APPROXIMATELY A 20 DEGREE CURVE TO THE RIGHT THEN BACK TO THE LEFT. AFTER THIS INITIAL 'LOCK' THE STEERING FELT AS IF IT WANTED TO ONLY GO STRAIGHT. EVEN A LANE CHANGE WAS DIFFICULT. THE SAFETY PART OF IT IS THAT WHILE APPLYING ENOUGH FORCE TO TURN THE VEHICLE...WHEN IT 'UNLOCKED' I NEARLY TURNED INTO THE CAR IN THE LANE BESIDE ME!!
DRIVING MY NEW 2018 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SNOWY CONDITIONS, I TURNED ON THE FRONT WINDOW DEFROST WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND IMMEDIATELY HEARD A POPPING NOISE. THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED DUE TO THE DEFROST COMING ON. THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED AT THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD IN THE CENTER OF THE SUV DIRECTLY ABOVE THE DEFROST VENTS. THE CRACK WENT UP FROM THE BASE 3 INCHES AND TOOK A HARD LEFT TOWARDS THE DRIVES SIDE. THERE WAS NOT A IMPACT TO THE WINDSHIELD OF ANY KIND. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER JEEP AND THEY HAVE SAID "GLASS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY". THIS WINDSHIELD IS DEFECTIVE.
THREE TIMES WITHIN THE LAST 2 WEEKS, I HAVE BEEN ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND THE CAR STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY SIDE TO SIDE. EACH TIME I WAS BETWEEN 60 AND 75 MPH THE SHAKING STOPPED WHEN I GOT DOWN UNDER 45 MPH. IT FELT AS IF THE CAR WAS GOING TO SHAKE APART. I HAVE NOT MADE ANY CHANGES OR ALTERATIONS TO THE CAR SINCE I PURCHASED IT. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT FOR IT TO BE LOOKED AT ON TUESDAY. IT IS A JL MODEL
I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE. FROM INCORRECT WELDS (WHICH THE DEALERSHIP DEEMED AS OKAY UNTIL I HAD A THIRD-PARTY LOOK AT THEM) TO STEERING ISSUES (WOBBLE, DRIFT, ETC.), IT'S BEEN A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE. I'M STUCK PAYING FOR A VEHICLE THAT WILL NOT HOLD ITS VALUE OVER TIME AND AM SO AFRAID TO DRIVE IT THAT I'VE ONLY PUT 1,600 MILES ON THE VEHICLE SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN AUGUST OF 2018. IF I COULD HAVE ONE WISH, IT WOULD BE TO PULL THIS VEHICLE FROM THE MARKET AND REQUEST THAT FCA DOES A FULL BUYBACK FOR VEHICLES WITH RECALLED ISSUES. THEY ARE LYING TO THE NHTSA, THEIR CUSTOMERS, AND SHAREHOLDERS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH OVER A DIP IN THE ROAD, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK UNCONTROLLABLY. THE VEHICLE VEERED INTO A PASTURE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BENSON CHRYSLER PLYMOUTH AND DODGE INC (400 WEST WADE HAMPTON BOULEVARD, GREER, SC 29650, 864-877-0161) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING DAMPER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 58020235. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,458.
AT SPEEDS OVER 70 MPH WHEN I HIT A BUMP OR SEAM IN THE ROAD THE STEERING WHELL VIBRATES VIOLENTLY AS IF SOMETHING HAS DISCONNECTED. AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS IT STOPS. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN 2 WEEKS. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 4K MILES ON IT. ANY SPEED OVER 65 CAUSES A LOOSENESS IN THE WHEEL ON UNEVEN PAVEMENT EVEN WHEN NOT VIBRATING. AFTER INSPECTION DEALER CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY ADVISED REPLACING STEERING DAMPER. DEALER ADVISED TO DRIVE WITH CAUTION TILL THE PART CAME IN BUT I ASKED FOR A LOANER AS IT OBVIOUSY UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
IMPROPER WELDS LEADING TO TRACK BAR SEPARATION. OKAYED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER (FCA).
POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. ONLY CAN STEERING 10 DEGREES EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT. THANK GOD, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. I RESTARTED AND STEERING CANE BACK.
I HAVE BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TWO TIMES FOR THE DEATH WOBBLE. ON HIGHWAYS, GOING 55+ IF MY CAR HITS AN UNEVEN SURFACE OR BUMP, THE CAR SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY UNTIL I REDUCE MY SPEED. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME, BUT NOTICED ITS WHEN MY FOOT IS STILL ON THE GAS UPON HITTING THESE BUMPS. HORRIFYING - ESPECIALLY DRIVING WITH CHILDREN. PEOPLE DRIVING NEXT TO ME COULD SEE THE CAR DOING THIS AT ONE POINT
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE GOING 75 MPH I HIT A POT HOLE IN THE PAVEMENT AND THE FRONT END STARTED SHAKING AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS MOVING, AKA DEATH WOBBLE.
WINDSHIELD CRACKS WITHOUT ANY SEEN PROJECTILE HITTING IT
"DEATH WOBBLE" SECOND OCCURENCE...I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY I-10 AT APPROX 70MPH I RAN OVER A ROUGH PATCH IN THE PAVEMENT; SUDDENLY THE STEERING BEGAN VIOLENTLY WOBBLING, I LET OFF THE GAS, CHECKED TO SEE IT WAS CLEAR AND I CHANGED LANES AS I BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 40 MPH AS I ATTEMPTED TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE STEERING. FINALLY THE WOBBLING STOPPED, AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE MY DRIVING SPEED. THEN AFTER ABOUT 5 MIN HAD PASSED, AGAIN THE STEERING STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND IT WAS EVEN MORE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. IT WAS VERY STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO STEER. IT WAS AT THAT POINT THAT MY HUSBAND WHO WAS WITH ME SAID THATS IT, WERE TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER, WHICH I DID, I TOOK IT BACK TO CRYSTAL CHRYSLER IN CATHEDRAL CITY WHERE WE PURCHASED IT ON 11-30-2018. THERE IS A CHRYSLER #U48 LISTED. THIS IS MY SECOND COMPLAINT IVE POSTED HERE ON THIS WEBSITE IN THE HOPES THAT SOMETHING CAN BE RESOLVED AS I AM NO LONGER GOING TO DRIVE MY BRAND NEW JEEP WRANGLER BECAUSE OF THE EXTREMELY UNSAFE "DEATH WOBBLE" THAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED EVEN AFTER TAKING IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY KEPT IT FOR 10 DAYS, AND FIRST TOLD ME THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT, THEN THEY REPLACED THE STEERING BOX. MY 2018 WRANGLER WILL NOT GO STRAIGHT I NEED TO CORRECT ALL THE TIME. IF I LOOK OFF TO MY SIDE MIRRORS OR MY INSTRUMENTS WHEN I LOOK BACK TO THE ROAD I MUST CORRECT. IF THERE IS A WIND IT BECOMES A SERIOUS PROBLEM. I REQUESTED THE DEALER FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEY REPLACED THE STEERING SHOCK.THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. HELP

DEATH WOBBLE WHEN I HIT EXPANSION JOINTS ON A OVER PASS,BUMPS,PAT HOLES ETC..I BOUGHT MY JEEP A WEEK AGO AND ONLY 500 MILES ON NO MODIFICATION ALL STUCK FROM FACTORY
WHEN MY SON'S JEEP WRANGLER HITS A SMALL BUMP ON THE FREEWAY AT SPEEDS OVER 50 MILES AN HOUR, IT GOES INTO VIOLENT STEERING VIBRATION. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS ON NOVEMBER 2ND, 2018 AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THE ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN ON JANUARY 12TH, 2019, AND CHRYSLER REPAIRED IT FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE ISSUE RECURRED FOR THE THIRD TIME ON FEBRUARY 9TH, 2019 AND THIS TIME, THE VIBRATION WAS EVEN MORE VIOLENT THAN THE FIRST 2 INSTANCES. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 10,000 MILES ON IT. IT NOW HAS 12,000 MILES ON IT. AS I LOST CONFIDENCE IN CHRYSLER BEING ABLE TO PERMANENTLY REPAIR THE VEHICLE, I AM REQUESTING ARBITRATION FOR CHRYSLER TO TAKE THE CAR BACK AND RELIEVE ME OF THE LEASE AS I DON'T WANT TO ENDANGER MY SON'S LIFE, ESPECIALLY THAT IT TOOK HIM A FRIGHTENING 5 TO 6 SECONDS TO REGAIN CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE DURING THE LAST INSTANCE. HE WAS DRIVING 65 MILES AN HOUR AND THE VEHICLE VEERED ACROSS 3 LANES. HAD THERE BEEN OTHER CARS, MY SON WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A LIFE THREATENING ACCIDENT.
MODEL IS A 2018 JK SPORT (2-DOOR) WITH 3,400 MILES. UPON A RIGHT TURN INTO THE ENTRANCE DRIVE OF AN APARTMENT COMPLEX AND HITTING A SLIGHT BUMP AT THE CURB LINE, THE CAR IMMEDIATE LOSS STEERING CONTROL ALONG WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATING ON THE DASH AND FELT THE VIBRATION OF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATING. STOPPED IMMEDIATELY, CHECK UNDERNEATH, SAW NO DAMAGE. CONTINUED SLOWLY INTO THE APARTMENT COMPLEX, THE STEERING WAS VERY LOOSE TAKING MANY TURNS OF THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN THE FRONT WHEEL OF THE CAR. ANY TIME THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED RIGHT OR LEFT, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH ALONG WITH THE VIBRATION OF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATING. WITH THE LOOSE STEERING AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT / ABS ACTIVATING WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, NOTHING ELSE OUT OF THE ORDINARY DETECTED, DECIDED TO DRIVE SLOWLY TO THE JEEP DEALER. ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER, ON A STRAIGHT AWAY AT ABOUT 25 MPH GOT A VIOLENT SHAKING IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE". ARRIVE SAFELY TO THE DEALER KEEPING THE SPEED REAL SLOW AND THE STEERING TURNS TO A MINIMUM. INSPECTION BY THE DEALER REVELED THE FRONT TRACK BAR BRACKET HAD COMPLETELY DETACHED FROM THE FRAME ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER. AS SEEN IN THE UPLOADED PHOTO, IT IS QUITE OBVIOUS THAT THE BRACKET WAS IMPROPERLY WELDED TO THE FRAME. THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM UNDER SAFETY RECALL UA5 / NHTSA 18V-675 FOR THE JL MODEL, BUT THIS JK MODEL OF THE SAME YEAR. *DT*JB
AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE VEHICLE DEVELOPS A PRONOUNCED SHIMMY WHICH LASTS FOR SEVERAL SECONDS WHEN ENCOUNTERING A BUMP IN THE ROAD. IDENTICAL TO WHAT WAS COMMONLY CALLED THE "DEATH WOBBLE" ON MY 97 WRANGLER.
THE FRONT WHEELS OF THE VEHICLE OFTEN SHAKE VIOLENTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN THE VEHICLE HITS A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD. OFTEN THE TRIGGERING EVENT COULD ALSO BE UNEVEN OR PATCHED SECTIONS OF FREEWAY. THE FRONT END SHAKING IS SO VIOLENT, CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT. THE VEHICLE MUST BE SLOWED IMMEDIATELY BELOW 50MPH TO STOP THE SHAKING. THIS WILL HAPPEN AT LEAST ONCE, EVERY TIME I DRIVE ON A FREEWAY.
VEHICLE WILL NOT STAY IN LANE. CONSTANT DRIFTING TO LEFT OR RIGHT REQUIRING STEERING CORRECTIONS TO BE MADE IN ORDER TO STAY IN LANE. CONSTANT PROBLEM REGARDLESS OF SPEED, ROAD CONDITIONS OR WEATHER HAVE HAD DEALER REVIEW 5 TIMES AND HAVE NUMEROUS VIDEOS DEPICTING THIS ISSUE
FRONT LEFT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR MALFUNCTION FOUND AT DEALER WHEN PLUGGED IN DIAGNOSTICS
IN COLD WEATHER <40, WHEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, ANY TIME I TRY TO CHANGE LANES TO THE LEFT, THE STEERING BINDS AND BARELY MOVES. A FEW TIMES IT HAS SUDDENLY 'LET GO', AND WITH THE FORCE I WAS HAVING TO USE TO CHANGE LANES, ALL OF A SUDDEN MAKES THE VEHICLE ALMOST LOSE CONTROL.
UPON HITTING A BUMP OF ROAD DEFECT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOBBLES UNCONTROLLABLY UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE SPEED IS REDUCED, OFTEN TO UNSAFE LIMITS ON THE SAME HIGHWAY. THE ISSUE HAS OCCURRED ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS, TOO MANY TO LIST BELOW.
WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, STEERING WHEEL WILL BEGIN TO "VIBRATE" AND ALMOST WOBBLE OUT OF CONTROL, YOU HAVE TO ALMOST BRING THE CAR DOWN TO SPEED AND BACK IN CONTROL.
STEERING FEELS LOOSE AND WANDERS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. HAD TWO ALIGNMENTS PERFORMED BUT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. ALSO WHEN HITTING A POTHOLE OR EXPANSION JOINT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS,THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND THE CAR STARTS TO WOBBLE OUT OF CONTROL. THE ONLY WAY TO GET CONTROL OF THE CAR IS TO BRAKE AND SLOW DOWN.
IF I RUN OVER A BRIDGE EXPANSION JOINT OR BUMP IN THE ROAD 50-75 MILES PER HOUR THE FRONT SUSPENSION WILL START SHAKING AND GROW TO A VIOLENT SHAKE IF YOU DONT REDUCE SPEED TO 40 OR LESS. 1 INCIDENT I WAS ON HIGHWAY AND IT STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY SO I HAD TO BREAK HEAVILY AND STRUGGLED TO MAINTAIN CONTROL WHILE PULLING OFF TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I HAD A HARD TIME KEEPING FROM RUNNING INTO THE WIRE BARRIER.
WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED HIT BUMP MY TRUCK SHAKES VIOLENTLY THAT I HAVE TO SLAM BREAKS JUST TO GET TRUNK UNDER CONTROL THIS IS KNOWN IN THE JEEP FORUMS AS THE DEATH SHAKE THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKE ALONG WITH ENTIRE TRUCK .I HAVE HAD MY WRANGLER SERVICED TWICE ALREADY AND THEY PUT IN STEERING DAMPER IN THE FIRST TIME AND 1 MONTH LATER IT WAS DOING IT AGAIN THEN I BROUGHT IT BACK AND THEY REPLACED IT AGAIN THE DAMPER WAS BAD FROM FACTORY NOT EVEN A WEEK LATER ITS DOING IT AGAIN,
I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS ISSUE WITH BEING ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE STRAIT. THE JEEP IS ALL OVER THE PLACE. I HAD TO HOLD THE WHEEL AT A ANGLE FOR THE JEEP TO STEER STRAIT. I WAS HEARING A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS MAYBE 10-15MPH AND WAS TOLD THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAD TO BE REPLACED.
CAR HAS BEEN IN SHOP MULTIPLE TIMES WITH MULTIPLE PARTS REPLACEMENTS TO CORRECT JEEP DEATH WOBBLE. STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND DRIVER LOSES CONTROL OF STEERING WHEN CAR HITS BUMPS GOING OVER 55 MPH. REPLACEMENT OF STEERING DAMPNER AND TRACK BAR HAVE ONLY BEEN TEMPORARY FIXES AND THEN PROBLEM STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN. THE PROBLEM IS PARTICULARLY BAD IF YOU HIS A BUMP WHEN THERE IS SLIGHT CURVE IN THE ROAD. ALL SERVICE DOCUMENTATION IS UPLOADED BELOW. STEERING DAMPNER AND TIRE ROD HAVE BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES SINCE 2019 AND IT IS CURRENTLY NOT WORKING AGAIN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO KELLY JEEP CHRYSLER DODGE RAM (978-683-8775, LOCATED AT 175 PELHAM ST, METHUEN, MA 01844) WHERE A SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS PERFORMED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER AND THE STEERING DAMPER WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER OBSERVATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 19,000.
SEVERE WOBBLING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS USUALLY AFTER HITTING BUMP OR UNEVEN PAVEMENT.
FILED COMPLAINT WITH FCA REGARDING POOR FRAME WELDS. I AM A CERTIFIED WELDING INSPECTOR AND REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER, AND THE WELDS WERE ATROCIOUS. MANY WELDS WITH POROSITY, LINEAR POROSITY, AND CLUSTER POROSITY. ALSO WELDS MISALIGNED AND WITH POOR PLACEMENT. AFTER MONTHS OF DELAYS (ORIGINAL COMPLAINT IN FEBRUARY) THEY SENT A WELDING INSPECTOR (STATED FROM THE FRAME MANUFACTURER) TO INSPECT AND WELD ON THE FRAME. DIDN'T GRIND OUT OLD WELDS. JUST WELDED OVER THE TOP OF OLD WELDS. LOOKED EVEN WORSE. POOR WELD PROFILES. WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO, AND WAS TOLD I WAS STUCK WITH IT OR I COULD GO TO ARBITRATION. THEN FCA DECIDED TO WOULD OFFER ME A TRADE CERTIFICATE OF $4000. I FELT LIKE THIS WAS TO SHUT ME UP, BUT IT WAS THE ONLY COMPENSATION I WOULD RECEIVE. I TRIED TO GET THEM TO LEMON IT, BUT THEY TOLD ME IT DIDN'T QUALIFY AND JUST GAVE ME THE RUNAROUND. SAW AN ARTICLE ABOUT REPORTING TO THE NHTSA. DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THIS WAS AN OPTION. I WISH SOMEONE COULD MAKE THEM OWN UP TO THE FACT THAT THEY PRODUCED AN IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED VEHICLE, POTENTIALLY VERY UNSAFE LONG TERM. MARKED OVER 40 SPOTS ON MY FRAME (WHAT I COULD EASILY SEE). THEY WELDED OVER 4 SPOTS. I'M AFRAID IF I DON'T TAKE THEIR TRADE OFFER I WILL GET NOTHING.
WHEN OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE IS COLD, STEERING BECOMES DIFFICULT AT 50MPH PLUS. STEERING ALMOST LOCKS UP AND LETS YOU MOVE 15 TO 20 DEGREES FROM CENTER AND WILL NOT MOVE MORE UNLESS A LOT OF FORCE IS APPLIED TO OVERCOME, THUS WHEN THIS HAPPENS USUALLY YOU GO FLYING OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 1-2 INCHES OF FREE PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN STRAIGHT. IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN ITS LANE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, CONSTANT CORRECTIONS ARE NEEDED. VEHICLE DOES NOT FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
START ENGINE, PLACE FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL, PUT VEHICLE IN REVERSE. BEFORE EVEN LETTING FOOT COMPLETELY OFF OF BRAKE PEDAL ENGINE BEGINS TO STUTTER AND COMPLETELY STALLS OUT. HAVE TO PUT VEHICLE BACK IN PARK AND START VEHICLE BACK UP AND START PROCESS ALL OVER AGAIN HOPING THAT VEHICLES ENGINE DOES NOT CONTINUE TO STALL. STARTED HAPPENING APPROXIMATELY 3-MONTHS AGO. TOOK VEHICLE TO ROUEN CHRYSLER/DODGE/JEEP/RAM IN WOODVILLE, OHIO. THEY KEPT OVERNIGHT TO TRY TO REPLICATE ISSUE BUT STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE. THEY DID END UP UPGRADING SOFTWARE ON A CONTROL MODULE IN HOPES THAT IT WOULD SOLVE THIS ISSUE. IT DID NOT. THEY DID STATE THAT SINCE THE ISSUE HAD BEEN DOCUMENTED ON THEIR END THAT IF A RECALL OR SAFETY ISSUE WAS RELEASED BY CHRYSLER THAT WHATEVER THE PROBLEM WAS WOULD BE FIXED AT NO CHARGE - EVEN IF VEHICLE WAS BEYOND THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS ISSUE IS OCCURRING MORE OFTEN THAN NOT AND IS BECOMING A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN FOR MY FAMILY. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ASAP BEFORE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR INJURY OCCURS. I AM KINDLY REQUESTING THAT THE MANUFACTURER TAKE A SERIOUS LOOK AT THIS ISSUE AND CORRECT AS THEY SHOULD. I PURCHASED A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER (JL 4 DOOR SAHARA) IN AUGUST 2018. AT SPEEDS EXCEEDING 55 MPH THE JEEP SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY MAKING HANDLING/STEERING CLOSE TO IMPOSSIBLE. I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 25 MPH TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENS WHEN I HIT EVEN A SLIGHT BUMP IN THE ROAD. MY JEEP HAS ALREADY BEEN TO DEALERSHIP FOR A SIMILAR ISSUE (RECALL ON TRACK BAR FRAME BRACKET) AND NOTHING WAS FOUND. I HAVE A $48,000 VEHICLE THAT I CAN'T TAKE ON THE HIGHWAY. CURRENTLY LESS THAN 5000 MILES ON THE WRANGLER. VERY DANGEROUS!
STEERING HAS EXCESSIVE STEERING WHEEL PLAY AND OVERALL VAUGNESS 1-2 INCHES LEFT AND RIGHT OF CENTER. VEHICLE WANDERS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT ALL SPEEDS AND REQUIRES CONSTANT DRIVER INPUT TO KEEP IN STRAIGHT LINE. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN HERE SINCE PURCHASE. VEHICLE HAS 1683 MILES AS OF WRITING THIS.
ALL AUDIO SOUNDS INCLUDING PHONE, NAVIGATION, RADIO PAUSE EVERY THREE SECONDS. ENGINE DEACTIVATION OCCURRED WHILE PULLING A TRAILER GOING 35 MPH ON A BUSY ROAD. IT RESTARTED ITSELF. BACK UP CAMERA SOMETIMES DOESN'T WORK.

IN THE RAIN THE VEHICLE HAS THE FEEL AS IF IT'S HYDROPLANING AND THE IMPACT FROM THE WETS ROADS AND PUDDLES CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO DRIFT EVEN MORE. I FOUND THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE RECEIVED REPLACEMENTS OF THE 1.STEERING BOX (68259507AE) 2.THE DAMPER (RECALL 77072360) 3.TRACK BAR (68394087AA) ALL OF THESE PARTS HAVE BEEN UPGRADED BY MOPAR AND I'M GUESSING THAT WAS FOR OBVIOUS REASONS BUT MY DEALERSHIP AND CUSTOMER SERVICE AT JEEP/CHRYSLER REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBLEM YET THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. I SHOWED THEM PROOF IN BOTH VIDEOS AND WITH THE UPGRADED PARTS AND IT DOES NOT SEEM TO MATTER TO THEM THAT THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION.
