WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AROUND 65 TO 70 MPH, CROSSING OVER BRIDGES OR OVERPASSES MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY UNTIL I SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 15 MPH. THIS HAS HAPPENED DOZENS OF TIMES THE LAST TIME I ALMOST SIDESWIPED A TRACTOR TRAILER. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE NOW AND THE UPLOADED A PROGRAM THAT DIDNT DO ANYTHING. I WAS TOLD NO RECALL YET BUT OTHERS ARE POSTING SAME ISSUES IN FORUMS.
AT FIRST WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS IN COLD WEATHER THE STEERING WOULD BECOME EXTREMELY STIFF WHEN TURNING LEFT AND THEN IT WOULD LOOSEN UP QUICKLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE VERY BADLY. THE DEALERSHIP UPDATED THE STEERING MODEM AND IT STOPPED FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS. THIS WEEK WHEN GOING STRAIGHT OVER A BRIDGE ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEEDS THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY (REFERRED TO AS DEATH WOBBLE) AND IT FELT LIKE THE TIRES WERE GOING TO FALL OFF. IT HAS BEEN WITH THE DEALERSHIP FOR 5 DAYS AND I STILL DON'T HAVE IT BACK YET.
STEERING SHIMMY/SHAKE/WOBBLE WHEN DRIVING AT SPEED. STEERING DOES NOT RETURN TO STRAIGHT AFTER MAKING TURN. STEERING WHEEL FEELS LOOSE AND AND PLAY SO IT FEELS LIKE IT DOES NOT IMMEDIATELY RESPOND WHEN TURNED. THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND CONTINUES TO OCCUR. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO JEEP FOR SERVICE AND REPAIRS DID NOT CORRECT ISSUE. ANOTHER SERVICE APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED.
WINDSHIELD CRACKS AND CHIPS EASILY SMALL ROCK CHIP SPREAD TO 10 INCHES WITHIN HOURS OF IMPACT VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 175 MILES
STEERING HAS PLAY IN STEERING WHEEL - YOU CAN MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL FROM LEFT TO RIGHT ABOUT 1 INCH AND IT DOES NOT TURN THE WHEELS. THIS PROBLEM WAS ABOUT 2 INCHES WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE BUT A REPLACEMENT TRACKBAR INSTALLED UNDER WARRANTY HAS REDUCED THE PLAY BUT IT STILL HAS ABOUT 1" WHERE IS IS NOT AFFECTING STEERING. THIS LEADS TO DRIVER FATIGUE IN AN ATTEMPT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN THE LANE AS IT REQUIRES A CONSTANT BACK/AND FORTH TURN ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO STAY IN LANE. I'VE HAD IT INTO THE DEALER 6 TIMES FOR THEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND WHILE IT IS BETTER THAN IT WAS ORIGINALLY IT IS STILL NOT FIXED AND DANGEROUS. I'M TOLD BY MY DEALER THAT IT IS "NORMAL" THAT WOULD INDICATE THAT "NORMAL" IS THE FOR THE VEHICLE TO HAVE DANGEROUS STEERING AND LIKELY THE WORST STEERING OUT OF ANY VEHICLE BUILT IN THE PAST 20 YEARS. -- VERY HARD TO KEEP IN THE LANE AT 55 MPH.
THE FRAMES WELDS HAVE POROSITY, LACK OF PENETRATION, SPLATTER, TOO MUCH SILICA. ALSO THE PAINT AROUND THE WELDS ARE CHIPPING, EXPOSING THE METAL. THERE IS RUST STARTING TO FORM INSIDE THE FRAME RAILS. I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER DRIVEN NEAR SALT AND ONLY HAS LESS THAN 8000 MILES. ALSO. RARELY, THE RADIO TURNS ON BY ITSELF WHILE THE CAR IS OFF.
VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WHEN HITTING A BUMP AT HIGHWAY SPEED (72MPH) SHAKING IS SO VIOLENT THAT HOLDING ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. TO CORRECT THE ISSUE THE VEHICLE BRAKES MUST BE APPLIED WITH FORCE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE BY 30MPH OR MORE WITHIN SECONDS, RISKING A REAR END COLLISION AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THIS VEHICLE HAS NO MODIFICATIONS, ALL PARTS AND ACCESSORIES ARE FACTORY INSTALLED AND MAINTAINED. DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED THE STEERING DAMPENER WITH ISSUE CONTINUING. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURRING OFF AND ON SINCE APPROXIMATELY 10K MILES OF USE.
GOING AROUND A GRADUAL LEFT TURN AT 40-50 MPH, STEERING LOCKED UP AND WAS UNABLE TO TURN AT ALL, NOT MATTER HOW MUCH EFFORT.
I HAVE A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER JL AND SINCE I GOT THE TRUCK IN JULY 2018, THERE HAS BEEN AT LEAST 10 TIMES DURING WHICH I'M DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING OVER 50 MILES PER HOUR WHERE I WILL HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE STEERING WHEEL STARTS SHAKING VIOLENTLY. IT HAPPENED 2 TIMES TODAY DURING A 2 HOUR DRIVE. IT CAN LAST FOR OVER A MINUTE AND I NEED TO SLOW DOWN CONSIDERABLY TO GET IT TO STOP.
I WAS DRIVING AT 45 MILES PER HOUR WHEN MY SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT WENT OFF. WITHIN 1 MINUTE I LOST MY POWER STEERING, AND BRAKES. MY CAR LOCKED INTO GEAR AND I LOST ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. AT THAT POINT THE CAR STARTED DINGING AND PROMPTING EVERY CODE IN THE CAR. SWAY BAR ENGAGEMENT, REAR ELECTRONICS, FUEL LOW, TIRE PRESSURE, CHANGE OIL.....I CAN'T REMEMBER EVERY ONE. WHEN I GOT MY CAR TO STOP I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO TURN OFF AND ALL OF THE FANS WERE BLOWING ON HIGH ALONG WITH THE MOTOR REEVING. I FINALLY GOT IT TO TURN OFF AND CALLED FOR A TOW. THE REPAIR SHOP TOLD ME THE CAR HAD THROWN OVER 100 CODES BUT NONE WERE ACTIVE. THEY KEPT MY JEEP FOR 10 DAYS AND TOLD ME THEY TOOK IT APART AND CHECKED EVERYTHING. I WAS TOLD BECAUSE NO ISSUES WERE CURRENT THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM THOUGH.I PICKED IT UP AND NOT 8 MILES DOWN THE ROAD THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED. THIS TIME HOWEVER I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHERE I WAS ALMOST HIT AND BECAUSE I HAD NO BRAKES OR POWER STEERING I ALMOST HIT A PERSON WALKING. THANK GOD I WAS ABLE TO AVOID ALL OF THAT AND GET PULLED OVER TO SAFETY. IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP AGAIN.
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AFTER CROSSING AN UN-EVEN EXPANSION JOINT OR POTHOLE (STRAIGHT AND SWEEPING CURVES) THE FRONT END STARTS VIOLENTLY WOBBLING/SHAKING ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO THE STEERING WHEEL. MY 2018 WRANGLER JL 2DR HAS ONLY 1,030 MILES ON IT AND IS BONE STOCK OTHER THAN MOPAR SIDE STEPS. THIS HAPPENED 5 TIMES ON A 60 MILE DRIVE.
DEATH WOBBLE. THE STEERING SYSTEM IN THE VEHICLE WILL SHAKE VIOLENTLY AFTER HITTING A BUMP AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 40MPH AND 70MPH. THE SHAKING OF THE STEERING SYSTEM CONTINUES UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS SLOWED TO SPEEDS AROUND 40MPH AND BELOW, AT WHICH TIME THE SHAKING FADES UNTIL IT DISSIPATES COMPLETELY. THE SHAKING CANNOT ALWAYS BE ANTICIPATED AND CAN CAUSE PANIC WITH THE DRIVER, ESPECIALLY A DRIVER THAT HAS NEVER EXPERIENCED THE SHAKING BEFORE OR HAS NEVER DRIVEN THE VEHICLE BEFORE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. THE STEERING DAMPER WAS REPLACED, BUT THE ISSUE WAS NOT RESOLVED. THE VEHICLE IS SCHEDULED TO GO BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE ISSUE. AT THIS POINT, I WOULD DEEM THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
DEATH WOBBLE IF I HIT ANY LITTLE BUMP OR CREASE IN THE ROAD. I HAVE TO STOP THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY FOR IT TO STOP. ALSO IF I LET GO OF THE STEARING WHEEL, YHE VEHICLE VEARS OFF TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT.
STEERING WHEEL WILL RANDOMLY LOCK AND NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO MAKE TURNS. ISSUE WILL OCCUR WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS OR PARKED. I HAVE VIDEO OF THE VEHICLE TURNED ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL NOT BEING ABLE TO TURN.
SINCE I BOUGHT MY JEEP WRANGLER JL, I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE DEATH WOBBLE, SO THE DEALERSHIP HAS CHANGED THE STEERING DAMPER FOR THREE TIMES, BUT I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS SO RIDICULOUS, AND THEY JUST SAID THAT I HAVE TO WAIT FOR OTHER TIME TO CHANGE IT WITH AN AFTERMARKET PIECE. DRIVING THIS CAR IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, IT DOESN'T MATTER THE SPEED.
AFTER HITTING SOME MINOR POT-HOLES ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE GOING 55-60 MPH , THE FRONT END OF MY JEEP BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY , MAKING IT HARD TO HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE . I HAD TO COME TO ALMOST A COMPLETE STOP TO REGAIN CONTROL , THIS HAS OCCURRED TWICE , WITH THE DEALER CHANGING THE STEERING STABILIZER BOTH TIMES . THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS ABOUT A MONTH AGO , THIS TIME IT OCCURRED ON 03/08/2019
TAKATA RECALL I PURCHASED A 2018 JEEP SAHARA WITH 18 MILES ON IT AND HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE SHOP 2 TIMES FOR DEATH WOBBLE. IT STILL HAS THE ISSUE AND ITS GETTING WORSE. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP SEEMS TO HAVE NO ANSWERS ON HOW TO FIX IT. THE LAST ISSUE MADE ME SLOW DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 20MPH ON THE HIGHWAY NEARLY RESULTING IN A REAR ENDING ACCIDENT.
"DEATH WOBBLE" VIOLENT LEFT TO RIGHT SHAKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND WHOLE FRONT END OF JEEP. HAPPENS ANYTIME AFTER HITTING BUMP, POTHOLE, BRIDGE JOINT; ON ANY TYPE OF ROAD AND SPEEDS FROM 40MPH TO 80MPH+. ISSUE DOES NOT RESOLVE ITS SELF UNTIL SLOWING THE VEHICLE DOWN TO VERY LOW SPEEDS, SOMETIMES AS LOW AS 30MPH. *NO* 'UPGRADES' OR ANY AFTERMARKET PARTS/WORK HAVE BEEN DONE TO THE JEEP.
STEERING LOCKED-UP WHILE DRIVING - STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN TO THE LEFT PAST APPROXIMATELY 11:00 GOING APPROXIMATELY 45-50 MPH. STEERING RETURNED WHEN SPEED DROPPED BELOW APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH BUT CONTINUED TO FREEZE AND FREE FOR APPROXIMATELY THE NEXT 0.5 MILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH.

I BOUGHT THIS BRAND NEW AND DID NOT MODIFY IT. A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE, IT STARTED VIOLENTLY SHAKING AFTER I HIT A BUMP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. ON 3/7/19, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE STEERING WHEEL DAMPENER. IT STILL WASN'T FIXED SO I BROUGHT IT IN AGAIN ON 4/12/19 AND THEY REPLACED THE SAME PART. IT SEEMED TO FIX IT FOR THE MOST PART BUT NOW IT'S BACK TO THE VIOLENTLY SHAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT ON THURSDAY 11/7/19 FOR THEM TO FIX IT AGAIN SO I CAN DRIVE MY BRAND NEW CAR. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT I ASSURE YOU IT IS. I CAN'T CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL UNTIL I SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 45. GOING FROM 65 TO 45 ON A HIGHWAY WHILE THE WHOLE CAR IS SHAKING IS IN FACT A HAZARD. I AM GOING TO REQUEST COPIES OF MY SERVICE CONTRACTS WHEN I GET TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THURSDAY. WHILE DRIVING THE LOCKER SYSTEM LIGHT WILL DING AND LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE. HAVE HAD IT AT A DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES APPROXIMATELY FOR THIS ISSUE. LOCKER SYSTEM WILL NOT WORK BUT I FEAR IT WILL ENGAGE WHILE DRIVING SINCE THEY CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX IT. I HAVE HAD THE ENTIRE AXLE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE DRIVE TRAIN CONTROL MODULE. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO FIX IT AT THIS POINT BUT WHEN THE ENGINEER SAYS IT NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS NO IDEA WHAT THEY MEAN BY THAT SINCE IT IS NOT A SERVICEABLE PART OF THE AXLE. IT IS BUILT INTO THE AXLE ITSELF HENCE THE AXLE REPLACEMENT. THE FORUM FOR THE JL WRANGLER THERE ARE A MULTITUDE OF PROBLEMS WITH THE AXLE/LOCKER SYSTEM THAT JEEP CANNOT FIGURE OUT AND IT'S BEEN OVER 2 YEARS.
2 WEEKS AGO MY CHRYSLER ADVISED THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE STEERING DAMPER AFTER I EXPERIENCED VIOLENT VIBRATION IN THE WHEEL WHEN HITTING A BUMP ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 70MPH. YESTERDAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT ONLY 63MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. TAKING IT BACK AGAIN TO HAVE IT EVALUATED. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 4400 MILES ON IT.
MY VEHICLE HAS UNDER 3000 MILES. I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN IT IN ONCE TO SEE A DEALER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. WHEN GOING 50MPH OR HIGHER, AFTER I HIT A BUMP, MY STEER WHEEL WILL VIBRATE FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS THEN STOP. TWICE NOW, AFTER HITTING A BUMP ON THE HIGHWAY, GOING OVER 50 MPH AND SURROUNDED BY TRAFFIC, THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THE FIRST TIME IT LASTED ABOUT 10 SECONDS. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK TO DEALER AND THEIR PAPERWORK SAYS THAT THE STEERING DAMPENER WAS REPLACED. THE SECOND TIME JUST HAPPENED BUT LUCKILY IT ONLY LASTED 2 SECONDS. BOTH TIMES IT ONLY STOPPED SHAKING AFTER I SLOWED DOWN UNDER 50 MPH WHILE ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WHICH HAS CARS GOING 70 MPH. THIS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. I'VE BEEN READING ON FORUMS AND I'M NOT THE ONLY DRIVER EXPERIENCING THIS. PLEASE MAKE THIS AWARE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR EVEN KILLED DUE TO THIS DEFECT.
WHEN TRAVELING AROUND 65 MPH, WHENEVER I HIT A POTHOLE OR BRIDGE EXPANSION JOINT THE FRONT END OF MY 2018 WRANGLER JLU STARTS TO SHIMMY. ON THE INTERNET IT'S GIVEN THE NICKNAME OF "DEATH RATTLE". THE SHIMMY/VIBRATION LASTS FROM 5 TO 10 SECONDS AND SOMETIMES REQUIRES SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE IT STOP.
CAR WAS BROUGHT IN 3 TIMES FOR DEATH WOBBLE. FIRST COULD NOT REPLICATE, THEN PART WAS REPLACED WITH A PART REMOVED FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE AS THE REQUIRED PART WAS ON NATIONWIDE BACK-ORDER. THAT PART WAS DEFECTIVE, CAR WENT BACK IN THE SHOP AND WAITED FOR NEW PART TO COME IN. ON 3/6/19 THE DEATH WOBBLE REOCCURRED WITH MY VEHICLE. IT DOES NOT STOP UNTIL YOU REDUCE YOUR SPEED - DIFFICULT TO DO IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. CURRENTLY HAVE NOT RECEIVED RESPONSE FROM DEALER TO BRING CAR BACK IN. THEY HAD FCA ENGINEER LOOK AT IT THE LAST TIME IT WAS IN AND WILL NOT SEND ME COPY OF THE DOCUMENTATION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LARRY ROESCH CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (200 W GRAND AVE, ELMHURST, IL 60126, (630) 333-9121) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE WINDSHIELD NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
STEERING WHEEL 'LOCKED UP' WHILE NEGOTIATING A CURVE. DRIVING ABOUT 60-65. MPH. HAD A HARD TIME NOT DRIVING OFF THE ROADWAY.
"DEATH WOBBLE" WHEN TRAVELLING AT 65 MPH OR FASTER AND HIT BUMPS OR IRREGULARITIES IN THE THE ROAD. THE WHOLE FRONT END SHAKES VIOLENTLY FROM SIDE TO SIDE UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS SLOWED TO LESS THAN 30 MPH.
WIND NOICE IN CORNER OF PASSENGER SIDE AND IN THE MIDDLE OF TOPS. BOUGHT VEHICLE NEW 2/4/18 AND HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR LAST 45 DAYS TRYING TO FIX. NOICE IS WORSENS DEPENDING ON DIRECTION AND HOW STRONG THE WINDS ARE BLOWING.
JEEP ATTEMPTED A SECOND FIX OF THE DEATH WOBBLE PROBLEM. BY CHANGING OUT THE DAMPENERS AND EXTENDING SOME ROD. WELL IT DID HELP WITH THE DEATH WOBBLE, IF YOU HIT CERTAIN BUMPS JUST RIGHT WITH THE WHEEL TURN, IT STILL FEELS LIKE THERE'S A SLIGHT WOBBLE, THAT IS QUICKLY CORRECTED . AFTER THIS SECOND FIX. MY JEEP NO LONGER RIDES LIKE IT USED TO. I FIND MYSELF DRIFTING MORE EASILY AND THE STEERING NOT AS IT WAS BEFORE
WINDSHIELD ON JEEP WRANGLER 2018 AND NEWER JL MODELS ARE WEAKER THAN EXPECTED. I'VE HAD 2 CRACKS IN THE WINDSHIELD IN LESS THAN 5K MILES. OTHER OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR ISSUES, SOME AS QUICKLY AS LEAVING THE DEALER LOT. THE FRONT DEFROSTER MAY BE CAUSING ISSUES WHICH WEAKEN THE GLASS. THE IMAGES BELOW SHOW ONE OF MY CRACKS. THERE'S AN INCH OF STEERING PLAY, BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT. VEHICLE SWERVES AND IS DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN A SINGLE LANE. CONSTANTLY HAVING TO CORRECT STEERING AND FEELS THAT IF I WERE TO OVER CORRECT IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION I COULD EASILY LOSE CONTROL. FEELS LIKE I'M DRIVING IN HIGH WINDS. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP DAY AFTER IT WAS PURCHASED AND THEY ADJUSTED TO THE TOE AND REPROGRAMMED THE STEERING BOX. FEELS SLIGHTLY BETTER, BUT STILL HAVING SAME ISSUES MAINTAINING A LANE. DOESN'T MATTER IF I'M DRIVING AT A LOW OR HIGHER RATE OF SPEED. IS MOST NOTICEABLE WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT, AND NOT AS NOTICEABLE WHILE TURNING, BUT STILL NOTICEABLE.
VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES FROM THE SLIGHTEST CRACK OR IMPERFECTIONS IN THE ROAD ALSO WANDERS BACK AND FORTH MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO KEEP IN LANE
I HAVE A JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED JL SPORT PURCHASED IN JUNE OF 2018. JUST RECENTLY EVERY TIME I GET ABOVE 60-65 MPH I GET A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF VIBRATION ALSO KNOWN AS 'DEATH WOBBLE' THIS IS HAPPENING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND CAN START EVEN IF I DONT HIT A BUMP OR POTHOLE. THE ONLY WAY TO GET OUT OF IT IS TO BRAKE HARD TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN TO STOP IT. HAS POSSED A SAFETY HAZARD TO ME BECAUSE IT MAKES ME LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AS I CANT TURN OUT TO MOVE MY VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE DEATH WOBBLE IS CAUSED BY A COMBINATION OF ITEMS AND THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED TO SEE WETHER A SAFETY NOTICE IS NEEDED.
THERE IS A LOT OF PLAY IN THE STEERING AT NORMAL SPEEDS. ALSO WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD MINOR BUMPS MAKE THE CAR JART IN EITHER DIRECTION AND WHEN LARGER BUMPS ARE HIT THE VEHICLES STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY BACK AND FOURTH UNTIL I SLOW DOWN. MY WIFE STATED THAT SHE LOOKED IN HER REARVIEW MIRROR AS I WAS FOLLOWING HE AND SHE SAID IT LOOKED LIKE THE WHEELS WERE WOBBLING . THE CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP WAITING TO BE REPAIRED. THEY SAID THE STEERING DAMPNER NEEDED REPLACE, BUT FROM WHAT I READ THAT WILL JUST MASK THE PROBLEM FOR NOW
WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, APPROX 70 MPH, AND HITTING A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD THE STEERING COLUMN AND INTERIOR OF THE CAR SHOOK VIOLENTLY. (DEATH WOBBLE). I HAD TO SLOW DOWN RATHER QUICKLY AND WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY THE CAR BEHIND ME,. THIS HAPPENED PRIOR AND WE BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY THE REPLACED A PART, BUT THAT OBVIOUSLY THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM.THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND I TOLD HER IT'S JUST A JEEP AND THAT IS HOW THEY RIDE OVER BUMPS, BUT AFTER IT HAPPENED TO ME, I KNEW RIGHT AWAY THAT WAS WHAT SHE FELT THE FIRST TIME! WE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME SOMEONE HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS. THE CAR IS AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WE ARE NOT SURE IT WILL EVER BE FIXED PROPERLY. SHE DOES NOT WANT TO DRIVE THE CAR AGAIN
AT 60-65 MPH ON TWO LANE ROAD I HAVE TO PUT CONSTANT INPUT INTO THE STEERING TO KEEP THE CAR TRACKING IN THE LANE. THE PLAY IN THE STEERING IS EXCESSIVE. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN SERVICE 3 TIMES BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. I WAS INFORMED ON MY LAST SERVICE SPOT. THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF A PROBLEM BUT HAD NO SOLUTION AT THIS TIME.
VEHICLE SEEMS TO REV UP ON ITS OWN/GAS PEDAL FEELS LIKE IT STICKS
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, SUSPENSION AND/OR STEERING MECHANISM WOBBLES AND VIBRATES VIOLENTLY (THIS IS FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL) WHEN ENCOUNTERING BUMPS AND HOLES IN HIGHWAY SURFACE. THE VIOLENT STEERING VIBRATION CONTINUES UNTIL REDUCING SPEED BY APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH BY BRAKING. THIS CONDITION WAS UNMANAGEABLE AT 6000 MILES AND FCA REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER. CONDITION BECAME UNMANAGEABLE AGAIN AT 15000 MILES AND FCA REPLACED STEERING STABILIZER AGAIN (V41RECALL).
THERE'S ABOUT A HALF SECOND DELAY IN THE HORN WHEN PRESSING THE CENTER OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY CONCERN IF YOU'RE TRYING TO WARN AN UNATTENTIVE MOTORIST IN A POTENTIAL COLLISION.
CURRENTLY I HAVE TWO ISSUES I BELIEVE MY 2018 WRANGLER JL TO BE EXPERIENCING. THE FIRST IS A CONSTANT CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE, MAINLY IN THE REAR. THIS OCCURS AT SLOW SPEEDS (10MPH OR LESS). THE DEALER REPLACED MY REAR AXLE BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THAT I DO NOT BELIEVE I AM ABLE TO FILL MY FUEL TANK TO THE PROPER CAPACITY. ( HAVE A 4-DOOR JL) FROM 'LOW MILEAGE' WARNING TO FULL, TYPICALLY I GET ABOUT 16 GALLONS.
MY JEEP IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE JEEP WILL ONLY DRIVE OK IF YOU DRIVE ON A L NEWLY PAVED AND TOTALLY FLAT SURFACE. - WHEN YOU HIT A BUMP THERE IS AN EXTENDED VIBRATION, QUESTIONABLE HANDLING CHARACTERISTICS AND THE CAR LITERALLY JUMPS LANE AND MOVES SIDE TO SIDE WITHOUT HAVING ANY CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE AND REPEATEDLY EACH TIME I DRIVE. THE JEEP ALSO HAS THE JEEP DEATH WOBBLE - THE CRAZY VIBRATION OF THE WHOLE CAR. BOTH ISSUES ARE WORSE AT HIGHER SPEEDS BUT WHEN IT HAPPENS YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OVER THE CAR.. THE FRONT END VIBRATIONS TRANSITION INTO THE VEHICLE JUMPING LANES AND MOVEMENT THAT VARIES IN SEVERITY DUE TO SPEEDS. IT IS VERY SCARY AND VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER'S SPECIAL REGIONAL TECH HAVE CONFIRMED THIS ISSUE. IT HAPPENS WHILE IN MOTION, ON ANY STREET, AT ANY SPEED, WHETHER DRIVING STRAIGHT OR TURNING - IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, AT ANY MOMENT WITH NO NOTICE. IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY YOU DRIVE THE CAR SO HARD BUT I PUT IN TODAYS DATE BC YOU ASKED FOR A DATE. IT DID HAPPEN TODAY FOR CHRYSLERS SPECIAL REGIONAL TECH TOO. IT ALSO HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS BUT IS WORSE AT HIGHER SPEEDS.
HOW'S IT GOING. I ENTERED MY CAR IN THE PARKING LOT OF MY WORK AND TURNED THE JEEP ON. WITHIN A MINUTE WHILE SITTING THERE I HEARD LIKE A POP AND A CRACK AND I NOTICED A SMALL CRACK ABOUT 5-6' IN LENGTH. IT STARTED AT THE BOTTOM OF MY DRIVER WIDE WINDOW AND RAN VERTICAL. OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT WEEK THIS SMALL CRACK TURNED LEFT AND RIGHT AND ENDED UP ENGULFING MY WHOLE WINDSHIELD. I AM PART OF JLWRANGLERFORUMS.COM AND I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO NUMEROUS VEHICLES. BETWEEN THE PHANTOM CRACKS SHOWING UP AND OTHERS GETTING HUGE CRACKS FROM ROCK CHIPS SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE WITH THIS WINDSHIELD. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, 3 TIMES NOW THE STEERING WHEEL BEGINS TO SHAKE QUITE VIOLENTLY AND IMPEDED ONE'S ABILITY TO CONTROL THE CAR. THIS CONDITION APPEARS TO LAST UNTIL SPEED IS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED. THE JEEP WRANGLER 4 DOOR IS A 2018 WITH LESS THAN 6K MILES.
LOOSE STEERING, CAUSES OVER CORRECTION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. SUSPECT THE LACK OF RIGIDITY IN THE RUBBER BUSHINGS TO BE TOO SOFT, CAUSING A HALF INCH DEAD SPOT IN THE STEERING BEFORE THE WHEELS ADJUST TO THE STEERING WHEEL INPUT.
I GO AND GET IN MY JEEP, IT'S RAINING A LITTLE TURN ON DEFROST AND THE WINDSHIELD CRACKS, JUST SITTING STILL, IT'S NOT SNOWING SLEETING OR FREEZING RAIN JUST RAINING
STEERING WHEEL HAS EXCESS PLAY, WANDERS AROUND THE HIGHWAY WENT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY IN TURNS.
HIT POTHOLE ON INTERSTATE TRAVELING 65 MPH AND EXPERIENCED SEVERE MOTION IN THE STEERING AND SUSPENSION TO THE POINT OF ALMOST LOSING CONTROL OF VEHICLE. AFTER LOOKING AT VIDEOS ONLINE RELATED TO THIS THE EXPERIENCE IS BEING REFERRED TO AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE" FOUND ON JEEP FORUM. THIS IS A STOCK JEEP NOT MODIFIED IN ANY WAY IN TERMS OF LARGER TIRES OR LIFTED SUSPENSION. THE PROBLEM SPONTANEOUSLY RESOLVED WHEN I SLOWED TO AROUND 40 MPH. I WAS NOT TURNING OR CHANGING LANES AT THE TIME IT HAPPENED.
THIS EVENING WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEED (70MPH) I CROSSED O ER AN OVERPASS ON A SLIGHT TURN. JUST AFTER THE OVERPASS WAS A SLIGHT BUMP AND MY JL BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I WAS CERTAIN THAT SOMETHING HAD BROKEN BASED UPON HOW VIOLENTLY IT AHOOK. I QUICKLY PULLED INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND SLOWED TO A STOP. I VISUALLY INSPECTED ALL TIRES AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS AS BEST I COULD AND SAW NO OBVIOUS DAMAGE/ISSUE. I DECIDED TO ATTEMPT TO CONTINUE SLOWLY. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO MY DESTINATION AND BACK HOME WITHOUT FURTHER ISSUES BUT NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY JL. I HAD A GREAT DEAL OF DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE DURING THIS EPISODE. I WILL BE CONTACTING MY JEEP DEALERSHIP FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. I LOVE MY JL BUT I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT ITS SAFETY.
