NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The vehicle will intermittently struggle to engage in 1st gear, the brake pedal gets hard, the auto stop start light will display on the dash and the esc light will display on the dash. Each issue may occur separately, not at all or they will all occur within 5 mins of driving the vehicle. I have been at a traffic light where the vehicle would not immediately engage in 1st gear and the vehicle behind me came within a few inches of rear ending my vehicle when I did not begin moving with the flow of traffic. I also have a similar experience with the auto stop start system failing while at a traffic light which caused the vehicle to stall in the intersection and I could not restart the vehicle without completely power cycling the ignition two times. The problems have been reproduced on multiple occasions throughout the past month. The vehicle has not been inspected by a 3rd party and the warning lights and alert messages that appeared for auto stop start system/ esc system did not appear until the problem occurred.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle violently shuddered. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic to be diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to a different independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the track bar needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The dash instrument panel went black and wouldn’t turn back on. I did not know my speed, could not see my odometer, or my gas information. I brought my jeep to the nearest dealership to diagnose and found that I need a new instrument cluster, this was back in February. Since then I have been waiting for this part from Stellantis with rolling ETAs that have not been met. I just found recall information regarding this part with the year of my jeep however I was told that my Vin is not part of this recall and I’m trying to find out why.
After having to have my transmission and clutch system replaced because it all blew up, upon receiving my jeep back afterwards more issues have now arised. Cluster lights all light up, as well as the speed indicator doesn't work. The traction control and sway bar connection go sporadically on and off. The radio shows no signal the back up camera doesn't work, the steering wheel locks up while I'm driving and causes me to have to pull over but I can't pull off to the side because the steering wheel is locked.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH and lowering the sun visor due to the sun glaring into his face, the contact stated that the sun visor detached from a retaining pin on the sun visor arm and hit the contact in the face. The contact stated that he was so startled from the strike of the sun visor that he swerved to the left and almost into oncoming traffic. The contact stated that he was able to place the sun visor into the closed position, but that whenever the sun visor was unhooked, it was hanging straight down and was blocking a portion of the windshield, reducing his visibility while driving. Additionally, the contact stated that the side view mirror toggle switch was no longer functioning, and the contact was not able to adjust the position of the driver's and passenger’s side view mirrors. The contact was able to see traffic on both sides of the vehicle safely using the side view mirrors. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 96,800.
The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the instrument cluster went black and remained black for approximately 2 days. The failure occurred approximately 5 times within 2 weeks. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V652000 (Electrical System). The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V652000 (Electrical System). The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
The Factory Aluminum Steering Box presents a severe safety hazard and should be immediately recalled due to its dangerous failure in cold temperatures. In low temperatures, the steering sticks and does not move freely, making normal driving extremely hazardous for both the driver and others on the road. While straight roads may not reveal the issue, attempting to turn on a curve becomes life-threatening—the wheel sticks, preventing necessary maneuvering. Once it finally releases, it can lead to overcorrection, which is especially perilous on slick, icy, or snow-covered roads. This issue occurs without warning, at any speed, and significantly increases the risk of crashes. FCA is aware of the problem and has issued a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) [XXX] ), but this is not a recall—meaning owners are left at risk. This failure nearly caused me a head-on collision and a run-off-road accident while traveling with my family. The safety implications are undeniable, and action must be taken before lives are lost. This is not just a mechanical flaw—it’s a critical safety failure that demands an urgent recall. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
the vehicle was taken to the dealer because the check engine light was on. we were told the oil cooler was leaking and there was no oil in the vehicle. at no time did the low oil indicator come on. the dealer advised the oil cooler was manufactured as a plastic component and repeatedly would fail causing the oi to leak out of the engine. the engine oil cooler was replaced with a newly designed metal part. the oil cooler failure also caused the oil pressure sensor to fail. repairs totaled $1942.07 for jeep's faulty designed. repairs were made by the jeep dealer. repairs were paid out of pocket and not covered by warranty. the jeep had just hit 100,442 miles when the failure occurred. jeep online forums have repeatedly posted about this problem. jeep needs to recall the faulty design that can cause the engine to leak out all the oil without warning. safety of us and others is at risk because the oil leaks out without warning, other then the check engine light coming on. no low oil or low oil pressure light ever illuminated. same can result in drivers being stranded on the road or result in engine failure.
Factory Aluminum Steering Box presents a severe safety hazard and should be immediately recalled due to its dangerous failure in cold and probably all temperatures. In low temperatures, the steering sticks and does not move freely, making normal driving extremely hazardous for both the driver and others on the road. While straight roads may not reveal the issue, attempting to turn on a curve becomes life-threatening—the wheel sticks, preventing necessary maneuvering or it darts me in another direction. Once it finally releases, it can lead to overcorrection, which is especially perilous on slick, icy, or snow-covered roads. This issue occurs without warning, at any speed, and significantly increases the risk of crashes. FCA is aware of the problem and has issued a Technical Service Bulletin 08-074-20 REV., but this is not a recall—meaning owners are left at risk. Die pretty much or risk your family dying and others or just get into that accident so the insurance companies screw you as always and you are left with nothing-those insurance adjusters don't work for we the people. This failure causes me a to have a collision daily and a run-off-road accident while traveling with my family on the interstate. The safety implications are undeniable, and action must be taken before lives are lost. This is not just a mechanical flaw—it’s a critical safety failure that demands an urgent recall. Then add in the notorious shimmy/shake onset of a death wobble. You are going the speed limit/interatate highway speeds and go over a bridge and it's over-you better pray! When driving a low speed 53mph if the vehicle hits a bump, it will start bouncing and the steering wheel shakes too much until I stop and then everything comes back to normal. That situation is very frequently and very dangerous, because it happened to me many times while driving on a highway with a heavy traffic behind me including semi trucks. If I die in my Jeep due to malfunctions FROM COMPANY my family can sue.
While driving my instrument cluster went blank, therefore not displaying critical safety driving information. There were no warning messages or alerts. It has been confirmed by an independent service center.
The oil filter housing/oil cooler is made of plastic and every Jeep Wrangler ends up leaking because of it and it should be a recall.

After I completed the recall on the clutch, I've noticed an alarming issue: occasionally, multiple warning lights appear on the dashboard, such as the check engine, service transmission, and brake lights. The most pressing safety concern is the complete loss of power steering. Although the car remains drivable, operating it without power steering is exceptionally hazardous. Additionally, since the car features a push-to-start system, when this issue arises, I can’t turn it off in the usual manner; I have to stall the engine to stop it. This situation has occurred multiple times, but fortunately, I’ve been either at a stop or driving at a low speed. After leaving the car off for a while, when I start it again later, the fault disappears and I can't replicate the issue.
My vehicle will randomly have the check engine light come on, a service shifter light come on, and then lose the ability to steer. I have taken it to the dealership twice and told it was fixed. Now it is back at the dealership for the third time. As a result of this issue I was involved in a car accident when a van came into my lane and I was unable to avoid impact and they were able to leave the scene. This is a safety issue for not only myself and anyone in my car but also anyone on the road around me. I did not file a police report regarding the accident as my situation involves a language barrier and I was so upset I just wanted to get home and be safe. Now I am in a state of fear anytime I drive my vehicle. I did have passengers and witnesses for two different instances where our lives were put in jeopordy because of this issue. On a separate occasion we were on a busy highway lost steering and were unable to get out of first gear. If I end up in a court situation I have several witnesses that would all be willing to make statements on my behalf as their lives were also put in jeopardy. I'm very upset as this vehicle was expensive and I bought it brand new. Now I've been out of a car for weeks and am being told I may have to pay for something that is clearly an ongoing issue. I have read several forums and articles and complaints from fellow jeep owners, many the same year, who have experienced the same issue. This is horrendous! My service records are all on file with Auto Centro Caguas in Puerto Rico.
As I was driving this vehicle alone on [XXX] , I smelled a burning smell and the clutch seemed to have trouble shifting gears. I was driving approximately 40 mph, attempted to shift gears, heard a loud bang and saw fire at my feet, looked in the rear view mirror and saw fire in the back. I pulled the emergency break and jumped out of the car. It then burst into flames and incinerated the car with all my belongings in it. The instrument cluster panel on my 2018 Jeep Wrangler shut down in December, 2024, with no advance warning. I purchased my Jeep in March, 2019, and per my dealership, it currently has 38,488 miles. I was told that I would have to bring my Jeep and leave it with them so they could order the part and replace the instrument cluster panel. They advised the repair would be completed by 1/3/2025. When I contacted them on 1/3, I was advised that the instrument cluster was on back order and had no additional information as to when it would be received. I have received no further information from the dealership. However, I found that there was a recall by the FCA US LLC on this part which included 2018 Jeep Wranglers. I called the FCA US LLC Customer Center on 1/7/2025 and after being on hold for 90 minutes, I finally was able to speak with “Dave” and explain the issue. Although he advised that my Jeep was not recalled, he created my Case #[XXX], and advised the Specialty Department would call me within 1 business day. As of today, 1/10/2025 I still have not received any such call, nor have I heard anything more from the dealership. How am I supposed to get this fixed when nobody is able to help me?! This vehicle is a 2018 model with 27k miles, non of it off road. Upon driving a freeway a few days ago, the vehicle went into a violent vibration/shacking motion,AKA "Death Wobble" that required immediate and dangerous driver action to keep from having a high speed (within legal limits) accident. In addition, the steering system sticking (stops and won't move) and wanders both left and right. The vehicle is dangerous to the occupants as well as other car/drivers in close proximity to this vehicle.
= Customer states that when hitting a bump they have the typical jeep death wobble Conditions?= Found the vehicle to have play in all steering joints and the right front axle joint t9 have play. The vehicle has 31,000 miles on it and has never been in an accident. it started the "death wobble" Oct 2024. I traveled to Michigan, not realizing it was this bad, and it became worse over the course of our trip in November 2024. I was traveling at 70-75 mph on why and felt like it was going to fall apart. It took me slowing it down to stop the wobble. I took to a mechanic in Ionia, MI which I had a extended warranty and paid it. I was told it was fixed. They replaced Steering Tie Rod . . . Remove and Replace components as required to access and install materials and/or perform needed service. Retest and verify repair as required. Perform final road test where applicable. 68258761AE - SOCKET, Tie Rod 68258762AE - SOCKET, Tie Rod 68522992AA- SOCKET, Drag link inner 68260466AB - ADJUSTER ASSY, Steering Link 68258760AE - SOCKET, Drag link outer Front Axle. Outer Joint on "fixed" Friday, November 29, 2024. I was trying to leave to return to South Carolina on [XXX], and I went onto the interstate. I was not maybe 1/4 mile, and the "death wobble" started again. I had to get off at the next exit and go back to my Nieces house. I have to take it back to the mechanic shop on Monday, December 2, 2024. I am stuck here in Michigan, and I have a son whom I had to fly back to South Carolina to go to school. Who gets to pay for my expenses and my issues? who do I contact for all of this now that this issue is chronic.? I was driving on the freeway around 75 mph I’m not sure what happened or why but the jeep started violently shaking back-and-forth I’m not sure how to explain it. But I very easily could have lost control. Where I live there is snow and ice so I’m not sure why that happened but would like to see if there’s something I could check. Or if there’s been a recall. Nobody was hurt thank God no lights came on. I was able to slow down the Jeep safely.
My vehicle started showing the airbag light on and it ended up being the clock spring, many jeep wranglers have being recalled because the same issue. The clock spring is the one that controls cruise, airbag, horn, traction, etc. i took it to the dealership and they said the vehicle was showing the B1B02 code, witch the the same why all the other jeeps were recalled but there is not a recall yet for my year. I want to people be aware of the importance of it, because in a crash the airbag will not deploy and even not in a crash the cruise control could malfunction anytime. I got my vehicle repaired today for a total of $1137.00 that wasn’t covered my extended warranty because they alleged the clock spring/airbag problem is reported very often. This is a really safety matter for all the jeep owners!!!
While driving the transmission and clutch system blew up. And I mean that in the literale sense. Sparks and a big flash. Unfortunately, I was an hour away from where I live. This caused me to have to find a way home and find a tow company that would be able to pick up my jeep on the side of the highway, tow it an hour to me. I couldn't afford that, so it was taken to the Chrysler dealership there and it was there for a month before they could work on it due to the parts having to be ordered and shipped in. Once the entire clutch system and transmission fully replaced I have to find a way to go back and pick it up. It was after hours when I finally got to it. That's when the mechanic that worked on it researched and found the recall for the transmission and clutch system because they would blow up. Just as mine did. But the next set of problems started as soon as I picked my jeep up. Pulls to the right when braking, push start won't start saying the fobs are not detected while I'm holding them in my hands. All lights on cluster go off randomly, the steering wheel locks up while I'm driving causing more danger. The traction control, sway bar will go off and on as well as the push start will not turn off. I did manage to take a short clip of this happening while I'm driving.
A shimmy in the steering wheel after hitting an irregularity on the road surface, also whenever I want to turn it does like a Squirrelly is the best way I can put it. On uneven roads, bumps, dips, etc the jeep pulls to one side or the other. Consequently the traction control light comes on and the jeep loses power!
This is a 2018 Jeep Wrangler 2018 JKU RHD and this vehicle starting to get the airbag light on and off in the dash! I brought it to a dealer to read it and they said the code is the B1B02 that means the clock spring is going out and it wasnt safe to drive it because the air bag will not deploy. Looking for all the info about it, i found out they have a recall is some Specific years but why it is not a recall in the 2018 model when it is showing up the same symptoms and problems than the recalled years?
Rear axle and differential began to make a whirring noise indicating bad bearings. After taking it to a shop who replaced the axle shaft, the noise continued. They noticed excessive wear in the differential components and said that it requires a rebuild. Another shop looked at it and agreed on the excessive wear, advising that the vehicle is undriveable until it can be repaired. The second shop has said this is becoming a common failure on this line of Jeep Wranglers and it ends up requiring a full replacement of the entire axle housing and assembly. The vehicle is undriveable because if the rear axle fails it would no longer be able to move. As it has not been repaired as of the date of this report, the components are available for inspection.
When shifting into reverse, the rear camera feed would not appear on screen. I tried shifting into other gears and back into reverse multiple times, and it did not appear any time the vehicle was in reverse. The gear indicator did show that the vehicle was in reverse. The display for the rear parking sensors did appear on the instrument cluster, but there were no obstacles at the time, so I do not know if the sensors or the rear cross traffic warning were functioning as intended. I did not observe any other warnings or symptoms of a problem. This issue only persisted for one drive cycle. I drove home without the rear camera that day, and the next time the car was started, the rear camera feed was working again. Since it has worked ever since, I have not had anyone inspect the vehicle about this problem. I did not feel that my safety was at risk, and to my knowledge, there were no people nearby exterior to the vehicle when the camera feed was malfunctioning. However, my visibility to the rear was impaired, and had someone been near the rear of the vehicle while I was reversing, their safety would have been at risk.

My vehicle’s cooling system continues to develop leaks in the antifreeze line/reservoir. I’ve had it repaired three times, but the problem returns each time, causing the engine to lose coolant and overheat. The coolant reservoir continuously cracks little by little my vehicle has broken down twice due to overheating. During my last oil change my mechanic informed me he has seen this issue and multiple times on other Jeep wranglers. The vehicle is available for inspection The vehicle has not been inspected by of the listed parties No warning lamps the symptoms are the car making a humming noise after driving about an miles, leaking antifreeze as soon as I add it to the compartment. I’m constantly refilling it with antifreeze due to this, and vehicle overheating.
The navigation/radio screen has delamination. At first, I thought it was just cosmetic. Starting in July of 2024, it started doing things independently, such as changing channels, the source, and switching between navigation and backup camera; on [XXX], it started turning on Bluetooth and calling 911. I can not turn it on because it continues to call 911. The vehicle only has 20,900 miles. The local dealership and Jeep are aware of the problem and have offered to repair it at a cost to me. This is a manufacture defect that needs to be fixed/recalled by Jeep. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
While driving at 55 mph the brake light, service abs system, check engine light, service 4wd, service transmission, loss of power steering, and engine cooling fan ran very fast. I was lucky to pull off the road and put the vehicle in Park. The 4 Way flashers would blink erratically. Engine still running wouldn't come out of Park. I turned the vehicle off.l let it set a few minutes. I then restarted the vehicle and it shifted into gear and drove home with the check engine light on. The next day it had no check engine light.
Radiator overflow bottle leaks. Warning light only comes on after empty. Refill of antifreeze was necessary every two weeks or less depending on driving conditions. Also know of this happening with another vehicle of the same make/model owned by family member.
Was using the heated steering well smelt something burning, then the heated component did not work

1. Both driver and passenger front seat latches that allow seat to fold forward to access rear seats have broken at approximately 70,000 miles. This will be the second time for the driver side to be repaired. It was repaired back in 2018 under warranty when brand new and has now failed. Currently the cost to repair is approximately $500. The replacement parts are made of flimsy plastic that will break again. 2. Head unit for radio display and climate controls failed at approximately 60,000 miles. Not covered by warranty. Paid over $1,500 to replace.
Incident date: [XXX], electrical problems causing loss of steering, 65 miles per hour, EXTREME action required to keep on road. 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport (4 door), 3.6L engine, bought new July 2018, Everett Washington. RPM and speedometer gauges went to zero, loss of power steering, all dashboard warning lights blinking on/off, digital speedometer only showed dashes (- - -) windshield wipers came on scraping bare hot window (outside air temperature 104 degree F), radiator fan went full on, engine kept running but miss-firing/rough, managed to get off freeway and stopped, turned off ignition for 5 minutes. On restart, all errors (except Check Engine Light) disappeared and car appeared normal, no stored warning messages. This is second occurrence. Picture is similar to my errors (it is from Jeep Forum,[XXX] Location: [XXX]. What is going to happen if I am off road and it dies? Or on a Los Angeles Freeway? I might be dead. My 2018 Jeep JL SPORT and it's electrical issues. It looses power steering and then the light show begins. Service Electronic Throttle, Service Shifter, Service Stop-Start System, Service ESC, Auto Park Disabled, No Bus, Speed Control Messaging Unavailable Service Required, Fluctuating Gauges. I have seen on YouTube how other jeep owners have this same issued a national issued that needs to be address and fix because is very dangerous and loss control on your vehicle while driving is a horrible experience that multiple people are facing.
Several times I have experienced intermittent operation of the rear view camera system and rear brake light operation on my vehicle while reversing. The issue has occured about 10 times in the last year or so. The issue seems to be the same as symptoms as FCA US recall 77B, but my VIN number apparently does not fall under that recall despite being the same model, which I think is a mistake.
The panel display is short circuiting. It flickers on and off then goes black. Abs modular was malfunctioning, had to be place and damage the Axel Locker system- jeep wouldn't come out of park.
Since the purchase in 2018, the radio screen stays black for several minutes after starting. Dealer says nothing is wrong but replaced it once. Death wobble is back after recall of steering dampener.
The 3.6l v6 (mostly in the 2014-2020 wrangler) has a known issue for cylinder 4, 5 and 6 misfires, warping, metal shavings, damaged cams, ticking, overheating etc. My wrangler has had this issue multiple times and the cost to repair it is well over $4000 each time. The first time, my wrangler had 85000 miles and now it has 135,000 miles. The vehicle overheats, starts rough, idles rough, loses power, mpg tanks and its a huge safety issue (I drive my 2 year old son around a lot, as well as my dog).
After starting the Jeep Wrangler it will not shift into drive and it says shifter needs service, then ABS needs service start stop needs service, it keeps flashing these warnings. It can sit for a hour or day then becomes driveable, took to local mechanic he says it's a Jeep dealer problem (had several people with this problem) they did repairs, but call them and they say never heard of this problem. It's a 2018 Jeep Wrangler.
Been trying to get the recall fixed in Kentucky. But dealer says its a Canadian vehicle and will not repair until made endless phone calls to USA and Canada and just get the run around. This has been going on since August 23. I just want a solution. Please help!!!!!

The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer. The contact was informed that the ABS fuse had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired regarding the failure of the steering wheel. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The VIN was not available.
I had the common issue with Jeep ‘18 wranglers called the “death wobble”. I read many articles saying it’s common with jeeps from the 2018 era. One day I was driving and it stopped in the middle of the road. I couldn’t accelerate or brake. I could not fully get the vehicle off a busy highway. I took it in before this to get it diagnosed and mechanics could not figure it out. After this incident I towed it to the dealership and they replaced my drive shaft because it was completely destroyed. I am now paying $2000 in repairs.
