IN COLD WEATHER THE STEERING LOCKS WHILE DRIVING. I AM ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL ABOUT 1/2 AN INCH AND THAT IS IT. THE ISSUE LASTED FOR 6 MILES WHILE I WAS IN TRAVELING IN MONTANA. I WAS DRIVING BELOW 25 MPH ON PAVED AND GRAVEL ROADS. THE TEMPERATURE WAS BELOW 35 DEGREES. I LOVE IN CALIFORNIA AND THE WEATHER HAVE NOT BEEN THAT COLD SO I HASN'T OCCURRED SINCE THEN. UNFORTUNATELY I DO NOT HAVE A VIDEO, I WAS TOO CONCENTRATED ON NOT CRASHING.
SAME ISSUE AS MANY OTHERS: LOOSE STEERING ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AND DEAD SPOTS OFF CENTER. REQUIRES CONSTANT CORRECTION TO STAY IN LANE, WHICH AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND NEXT TO TRUCKS CAN BE TERRIFYING. FORMER WRANGLER JK OWNER, SO I KNOW IT'S NOT A "JEEP THING". SEEN MANY REPORTS OF LOSE BALL JOINTS, WEAK TRACK BAR WELDS, AND INCORRECT ALIGNMENTS, IN ADDITION TO THE NEW ALUMINUM GEARBOX, AS CONTRIBUTING TO THE ISSUE. JEEP NEEDS A COMPREHENSIVE STEERING FIX FOR THE JL, AND SOON. I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE STARTED FOR BUILDS AROUND APRIL AND LATER, IN RESPONSE TO REPORTS STEERING FOR SOME WAS LOCKING UP. I BELIEVE JEEP WENT THE OTHER DIRECTION AND SIMPLY MADE THE STEERING LOOSE INSTEAD OF FIXING THE ACTUAL LOCKUP ISSUE. JEEP MUST COME UP WITH A TRUE SOLUTION THAT RESULTS IN NO LOCK UPS AND TIGHT, RELIABLE, SOLID STEERING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUBFRAME WELDING WAS RUSTED, CORRODED, MISALIGNED, AND DID NOT MEET THE MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS RELATED TO SPACING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (BENNETT JEEP, 149 HWY 40 EAST, KINGSLAND, GA) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
JEEP WANDERS ALL OVER THE ROAD LIKE STEERING IS LOOSE - HARD TO KEEP GOING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. FELT IT DURING TEST DRIVE BUT THOUGHT IT WAS "JUST A JEEP THING". AFTER DRIVING MANY MILES AND TALKING WITH OTHERS IT APPEARS IT IS NOT NORMAL. THOUSANDS OF REPORTS ABOUT IT ON VARIOUS FORUMS INCLUDING CAR AND DRIVER MAGAZINE. ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE JEEP IS OUT OF CONTROL AT TIMES. SCARY. DEALER CLAIMS NO ISSUE SINCE NO TSB/RECALL AND NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. THIS IS A SAFETY RISK!
THE STEERING IS LOOSE REQUIRING ME TO CONSTANTLY CORRECT THE PATH THE VEHICLE IS TAKING. THERE IS INCHES OF PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL WITH NO CORRESPONDING REACTION. THE DEALER HAS NO SOLUTION. THIS VEHICLE IS A NEWLY PURCHASED 2018 WRANGLER WITH APPROXIMATELY 1300 MILE ON THE ODOMETER. I DO NOT WANT AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS.
WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION THE STEERING IS VERY LOOSE. YOU CAN MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT AND RIGHT ABOUT 4 INCHES IN PLAY AND THE WHEELS NEVER TURN AT ALL. THIS MAKES DRIFTING, ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEEDS, A HUGE SAFETY RISK. YOU MUST OVERCORRECT THE WHEEL IN ORDER TO STAY IN YOUR LANE WHILE DRIVING. THE CASTER NUT AND GEAR BOX NUT SEEM TO COME FROM THE FACTORY EXTREMELY LOOSE CAUSING THIS POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING SAFETY HAZARD.
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AFTER HITTING A SMALL BUMP, VEHICLE BEGINS TO SHAKE SIGNIFICANTLY AND IT ONLY GOES AWAY AFTER SLOWING DOWN CONSIDERABLY. SIMILAR ISSUE TO WHAT OTHERS ARE DESCRIBING AND NEARLY IDENTICAL TO THE JEEP "DEATH WOBBLE" THAT IS FAIRLY WELL DOCUMENTED. STARTED AT ONLY 9000 MILES AFTER ZERO MODIFICATIONS OR OFF-ROAD USE. DEALER REPRODUCED AND INDICATED THAT THE STEERING STABILIZER IS "SHOT" AND REPLACEMENT PART IS BACKORDERED WITH NO ESTIMATED DELIVERY DATE.
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OVER 70MPH, THE STEERING BECOMES VAGUE TO THE POINT OF A LOSS OF FINE CONTROL. WITHOUT STEERING INPUT AND WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT CROSS WINDS, THE FRONT WHEELS WILL STEER QUICKLY FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AND BACK. THE CHANGE IN DIRECTION IS SO DRASTIC THAT ONSTANT AND CAREFUL ATTENTION IS REQUIRED TO AVOID UNEXPECTED LANE CHANGES. I'VE OWNED TWO OTHER WRANGLERS (2000 AND 2007) AND THIS IS NOT A CONDITION BASED ON STEERING GEOMETRY OR 4WD SYSTEMS. THIS IS A LIFE-THREATENINGLY DANGEROUS CONDITION AND REQUIRES IMMEDIATE GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT AND INTERDICTION.
JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED SAHARA STEERING WHEEL / SYSTEM HAS LOOSE AND DEAD SPOT..YOU CAN TURN THE WHEEL 1-2" EITHER WAY AND NOTHING HAPPENS. JEEP WANDERS ALL OVER THE ROAD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS DUE TO CONSTANT STEERING CORRECTIONS. HAD TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY ALIGNED AND PERFORMS TSB..DIDNT CORRECT ISSUE. .THE JEEP COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE UNCERTAIN TRACKING AND CONSTANT STEERING CORRECTIONS NEEDED.
SOON AFTER PURCHASING MY 2018 JL WRANGLER IN APRIL I BEGAN EXPERIENCING STEERING ISSUES. WHEN VEERING LEFT OR RIGHT TO CHANGE LANES, TAKE A CURVE, ETC. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD 'LOCK' UP AND I'D NEED BOTH HANDS TO PULL IT BACK TO KEEP THE JEEP IN MY LANE. IT ONLY LASTS FOR A FEW SECONDS. I HAD RECEIVED NOTIFICATION THAT IT WAS TIME FOR MY FIRST MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENT AFTER PURCHASING THE JEEP, SO I CALLED TO SCHEDULE THAT AND ALSO TOLD THEM ABOUT THE STEERING ISSUE. ONE DAY PRIOR TO THE APPOINTMENT, MY DASHBOARD ALERT NOTIFIED ME TO "SERVICE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL". SINCE I ALREADY HAD THE APPOINTMENT, I KNEW THIS COULD BE ADDRESSED AT THAT TIME. THEN A FEW DAYS LATER I RECEIVED THE SAFETY RECALL U48 FOR STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND LET THEM KNOW THAT I HAD RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE AND THAT I ALREADY HAD AN APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED. I TOOK THE JEEP IN FOR THE APPOINTMENT AND THE PROBLEM APPEARED TO BE FIXED AT FIRST. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT A MONTH LATER AND THEN AGAIN JUST THIS PAST WEEK. IT'S A SCARY SITUATION. THIS LAST OCCURRENCE I WAS TAKING A CURVE IN THE ROAD WITH TRAFFIC COMING THE OTHER DIRECTION. THE STEERING WHEEL 'LOCKED UP' AND I HAD TO FORCEFULLY USE BOTH HANDS TO PULL IT BACK INTO THE LANE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 50-75 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE OCCASIONALLY EXPERIENCED THE "DEATH WOBBLE". AFTER DRIVING OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WOULD VIOLENTLY WOBBLE AND SHAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (ROBERT LOEHR JEEP, 567 E. MAIN ST. CARTERSVILLE, GA) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONTROL ARM WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000.
EXTREME WOBBLE AND SHAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHICH CONTINUES WELL PAST THE ROAD IMPERFECTIONS THAT CAUSED THE SPECIFIC TYPE OF SUSPENSION TRAVEL. STARTED UNDER 1000 MILES. HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES EVERY WORKDAY - CAN BE REPLICATED. THIS VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY STOCK AND BRAND NEW. IF DRIVING AROUND A SLIGHT TURN WITH SMALL BUMPS THE VEHICLE STARTS SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND KEEPS SHAKING FOR 20-30 SECONDS UNTIL THE TRAVELING SPEED IS REDUCED TO 50 MPH WHICH IS NOT A SAFE SPEED AT TIMES. 2 STEADY HANDS MUST BE ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND CHANGING LANES IS NOT POSSIBLE. HAD TO MAKE AN AVOIDANCE MANEUVER DURING THE SHAKING AND ALMOST LOST CONTROL WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE TO OPERATE AND THE PROBLEM HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY. UNKNOWN COMPONENTS AND PARTS CAUSE THE EXTREME SHAKING/WOBBLING. THIS STATEMENT IS TO DOCUMENT THE PROBLEM; THERE WILL BE VIDEOS AND REPAIR INVOICES IN THE FUTURE BUT SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS HAVE TOLD ME THERE ARE NO FIXES FOR THE PROBLEM CALLED DEATH WOBBLE. I AM CURRENTLY ON A "WAITING LIST" FOR A REPAIR ATTEMPT. I WILL CALL FOR AN UPDATE WITH THE DEALERSHIP 11/30/18. THE TIRES ARE STOCK AND AT PROPER PRESSURE. THERE HAVE BEEN NO MODIFICATIONS TO THE VEHICLE.
UA5/NHTSA 18V-675 TRACK BAR WELD RECALL. I HAD THE REQUIRED INSPECTION DONE TWO WEEKS AGO, BUT DEALER WON'T DO THE WELDING. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO MAKE JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE MAKE THE LOCAL DEALER FIX THIS VERY SERIOUS ISSUE, BUT NOTHING HAPPENS. I'VE EVEN TRIED A DEALER 1 HOUR 40 MINUTE DRIVE FROM ME HERE IN ARIZONA, THEY WON'T DO IT EITHER.
THERE IS A DEAD SPOT IN THE STEERING AT CENTER . WHEN I'M DRIVING I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY CORRECT THE STEERING TO MAKE IT GO STRAIGHT . THE PROBLEM GETS WORSE AT HIGHER SPEEDS . THE VEHICLE WONDERS AND I'M SURE IT LOOKS LIKE THERE'S A DRUNK DRIVER BEHIND THE WHEEL . I CAN MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL 15 DEGREES BACK AND FORTH IN EITHER DIRECTION WHILE DRIVING AND NOT GET A RESPONSE FROM THE STEERING . THAT'S THE DEAD SPOT . THIS MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN A LANE .
I PURCHASED THIS 2018 UNLIMITED IN JUNE, BRAND NEW, WITH UNDER 500 MILES IT TOOK TO DRIVE IT FROM MI. AT APPROX. 15,000 MILES I HEARD A RATTLE, THAT SOUNDED LIKE A LOOSE HEAT SHIELD, TOOK IT IN AND TECHS FOUND NOTHING, SAID NO HEAT SHIELDS. WITHIN ABOUT 2 WEEKS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, AT HIGHWAY SPEED, AS I CAME OVER BRIDGE CROSSINGS MY JEEP WOULD SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO STEER. AT FIRST IT WOULD ONLY HAPPEN OCCASSIONALLY, THEN IT GOT WORSE, TO THE POINT OF MOVING OUT OF THE LANE I WAS DRIVING IN AND INTO THE BERM AND/OR INTO THE LANE NEXT TO ME. THE WHOLE JEEP WOULD SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY FOR LONGER THAN 1-3 MINUTES. I DID NOTICE THAT IF CROSSING OVER BRIDGES IN A STRAIGHT AWAY, THE WOBBLE WAS LESS SEVERE THAN IF I WAS IN A SLIGHT CURVE, OR ANGLE. ALSO, I DID NOTICE THAT IF I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL BEFORE, DURING AND FOR A SHORT PERIOD AFTER BRIDGES, THE JEEP DOESN'T HAVE THE WOBBLE AS OFTEN. THIS MAY NEED TO BE CHECKED, THE TECHS ARE REPLACING PARTS THEY ARE BEING TOLD TO BY JEEP, BUT JEEP DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE DEATH WOBBLE, MAYBE IT ISN'T DIRECTLY RELAYED TO ONLY THE FRONT STEERING DAMPER.
2018 JEEP WRANGLER JL UNLIMITED STEERING IS VERY SLOPPY AT ALL SPEEDS. STEERING IS VERY SOFT AND UNRESPONSIVE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO WANDER FROM SIDE TO SIDE IN THE LANE WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. STEERING DOES NOT HOLD POSITION, OR REMAIN CENTERED, VEHICLE DRIFTS IN THE LANE IN BOTH DIRECTIONS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. ALMOST CONSTANT CORRECTION IS NEEDED TO KEEP VEHICLE MOVING IN A SOMEWHAT STRAIGHT LINE.
I'VE HAD THREE RUBICONS IN THE PAST AND THE STEERING ON MY NEW 2018 RUBICON JL UNLIMITED IS HORRIBLE. THE CAR WANDERS LEFT AND RIGHT, THERE IS MUCH TOO MUCH PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. IT FEELS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE CAR STEERING IS VERY UNSTABLE, YET THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. IT HAPPENS CONSTANTLY. BUT THE FASTER YOU GO THE MORE UNSTABLE IT FEELS. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I PURCHASED IT.
STEERING IS SLOPPY. THE VEHICLE WANDERS AND TAKES SIGNIFICANT EFFORT AND CONSTANT ADJUSTMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL TO KEEP IT IN THE LANE. TOO MUCH FREE PLAY IN THE STEERING. THIS HAPPENS AT ANY SPEED EVEN AT 30MPH.
HAVE A FRONT END AND STEERING WHEEL SHAKE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN HITTING BUMPS.
WITH ABOUT 1100 MILES ON THIS BRAND NEW JEEP I HIT A BUMP ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65-70 MPH. THE JEEP STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND I HAD ALL I COULD DO TO HOLD ON TO THE STEERING WHEEL. IF YOU SLOW DOWN TO UNDER 40 MPH THE SHAKING STOPS. EVER SINCE ANYTIME I AM ON A HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH OR MORE EVEN A BRIDGE JOINT WILL CAUSE THE JEEP TO GO INTO IT'S SHAKE, RATTLE, AND ROLL ROUTINE. I CAN ALWAYS STOP IT BY IMMEDIATELY SLOWING DOWN BUT IN HEAVY BOSTON TRAFFIC THIS IS SIMPLY NOT A SAFE ALTERNATIVE. FOR A $40,000 VEHICLE THAT HAS HARDLY BEEN DRIVEN YET I THINK THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I HOPE YOU WILL TAKE IT SERIOUSLY AS THIS DEFECT HAS BEEN GOING ON IN JEEPS FOR YEARS AND IT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED. IF YOU DON'T THINK IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE YOU TAKE IT ON RTE 128 AT RUSH HOUR AND GET BACK TO ME WHEN IT GIVES YOU A HEART ATTACK.
THE STEERING IS VERY LOOSE AND VEHICLE WANDERS ALL OVER. PROBLEM IS ESPECIALLY BAD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND REQUIRES CONSTANT INPUT TO REMAIN STRAIGHT. STEERING WHEEL HAS ABOUT 2 INCHES OF DEAD SPACE SO CORRECTIONS ARE CUMBERSOME. STEERING WILL LOCK UP AT HIGHWAYS SPEEDS AND THEN SUDDENLY RELEASE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES AND CAUSED ME TO SKID 2X AND GO OFF HIGHWAY ONE.
THE CAR TENDS TO WANDER AT HIGHWAY SPEED( 65MPH) . WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED I AM CONSTANTLY ADJUSTING THE STEERING TO MAINTAIN LANE. MOST CARS DO THIS TO SOME DEGREE, BUT THIS VEHICLE DOES IT TO EXCESS. I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE.
STEERING IS LOOSE AND VEHICLE WANDERS ALL OVER THE ROAD. CONSTANT CORRECTION OF THE WHEEL IS REQUIRED TO STAY IN LANE. MOST NOTICEABLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BUT IS APPARENT AT ALL SPEEDS.
JEEP WONDERS WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY. FEEL LIKE I NEED TO ALWAYS HANG ON WITH 2 HANDS
I PURCHASED MY 2018 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED JL IN JUNE OF 2018. WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH OF HAVING THE VEHICLE THE PROBLEMS BEGAN. I INITIALLY HAD WINDSHIELD SEALS THAT WERE MISSING SO THE JEEP WOULD FILL UP WITH WATER FROM BEHIND THE DASHBOARD. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY "FIXED THE PROBLEM" AND THEN MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T INSTALL PROPERLY, NOW IT IS LEAKING AGAIN BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS WILL BE MY 3RD VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS PROBLEM. THEN THE "DEATH WOBBLE" BEGAN AROUND 8/9,000 MILES, ALMOST CAUSING MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN TWO DEALERSHIPS SINCE OCTOBER 2018 TRYING TO FIX ALL OF THE ISSUES OCCURRING. THE JEEP IS BEING SENT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE 5TH TIME ON APRIL 10, 2019 FOR ONGOING STEERING ISSUES. THE DAMPER (RECALL) IN THE VEHICLE WAS REPLACED 4 TIMES WITHOUT SUCCESS AND THE STEERING CONTINUES TO WORSEN. KEEP IN MIND, THE DAMPER RECALL FIX WAS ONLY AVAILABLE AT MY DEALERSHIP IN JANUARY OF 2019. I NOW HAVE 18,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, LOOSE AND WOBBLING STEERING, CAN'T MAINTAIN A LANE WHILE DRIVING, VIBRATION AND WOBBLING WHILE BREAKING, THE EMERGENCY BREAK IS NO LONGER ENGAGING (MANUAL TRANSMISSION), AND JUST PUT IN A COMPLAINT WITH JEEP A FEW WEEKS AGO AFTER LITTLE SUCCESS WITH THE DEALERSHIP. JEEP IS TELLING ME THAT MY UNSAFE, UNSTABLE VEHICLE HAS TOO MANY MILES ON IT TO BUYBACK. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR LESS THAN 10 MONTHS AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS MANY ISSUES WITH ANY OF MY OTHER VEHICLES IN MY LIFE. THE VEHICLE WILL BE GOING BACK TO THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM FOR THE 5TH TIME FOR STEERING ISSUES AND 3RD TIME FOR THE WINDSHIELD SEALS, ALONG WITH MANY OTHER ISSUES. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE IN MY OWN VEHICLE IN WHICH I AM PAYING A HIGH PRICE FOR EVERY MONTH.
UNSETTLING WOBBLE ,SHAKE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHILE CHANGING LANES AND HITTING A BUMP , 2 DIFFERENT STEERING DAMPERS INSTALLED ,PROBLEM STILL EXIST , DEALERSHIP IS IN DENIAL . I'M A CERTIFIED MASTER MECHANIC ,THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE , I BELIEVE CHRYSLER KNOWS THIS , ACCORDING TO REPORTS ,NO ONE HAS DIED YET ,BUT SOMEONE IS GOING TOO
EXCESS PLAY IN STEERING WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHT (AT ALL SPEEDS) AS WELL AS STEERING DRIFTS OR WANDERS WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT. NO ISSUES WHILE IN A TURN. NO PROBLEM WHILE HOLDING A STEADY TURN ON A FREEWAY OFF RAMP. I'VE HAD THE DEALER REPLACE THE TRACK BAR AS WELL AS INSTALL THE NEW STEERING DAMPER (UNDER RECALL).

IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP IT IN THE LANE WITHOUT A LOT OF CORRECTION. IT IS UNCOMFORTABLE AND IS UNSAFE. JEEP TECH AT DEALER SAID JEEP TOLD HIM THAT IT WAS PURPOSELY BUILT THAT WAY -- I THINK NOT! NO VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE THAT AMOUNT OF PLAY - IT IS UNSAFE. DRIVING BETWEEN TWO SIMIS ON I-285 IN ATLATA IS VERY SCRAY AS IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE JEEP IN THE LANE. DANGEROUS. GETTING NO HELP FROM DEALER.
MOST RECENT INCIDENT: SUNDAY NEAR FRANKFURT AIRPORT THE ERROR CODE READ " SERVICE SHIFTER" AND THE ORANGE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. I DROVE INTO THE CAR PARK THEN TRIED TO SHIFT FROM DRIVE TO PARK AND THE JEEP LOCKED IN NEUTRAL. THE JEEP LOCKED UP AS IF IT WAS IN PARK SO WE COULD NOT PUSH OR PULL THE VEHICLE. I ALSO COULD NOT TURN THE VEHICLE OFF COMPLETELY. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE ON AND I COULD NOT TURN THEM OFF VIA THE IGNITION. THIS IS WHY THE BATTERY WAS DRAINED. THE CAR SAT SINCE SUNDAY ON UNTIL IT WAS TOWED AND YOUR STAFF WAS ABLE TO LOOK AT IT. PICTURES WILL FOLLOW IN THE NEXT EMAIL. PLEASE PULL ENTIRE DIAGNOSTIC HISTORY IF POSSIBLE. FIRST INCIDENT: VEHICLE DID THE SAME THING ON VOGELWEH AIR FORCE BASE. IT WAS TOWED TO MUM MATTUSCH. WHEN THEY LOOKED AT IT THE DIAGNOSIS WAS LOW BATTERY. IT WAS EXPLAINED THE DRAW ON THE BATTERY BY THE VEHICLE BUT SHOWED NO ISSUE AS THE VEHICLE WAS DRAINED AND UPON CHARGING THE BATTERY THAT MUST REBOOT THE ERROR CODE.
AFTER PURCHASING MY JEEP RUBICON I NOTICE THAT THE VEHICLE STEERING WANDERED ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS NOT ABLE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT WITHOUT IT WANDERING FROM SIDE TO SIDE. TO MUCH PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAD LESS THAN 100 MILES. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE JEEP DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT INSPECTED. THE JEEP WAS INSPECTED AND I WAS TOLD THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM WITH IT, HOWEVER I DID SOME RESEARCH AND SOON LEARNED THAT OTHERS HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING THE THE SAME PROBLEM. TO FIX IT ONE OWNER TOOK HIS IN TO HIS DEALER AND THEY MADE AN ADJUSTMENT IN THE STEERING TO A ( -8 ) AND IT WENT AWAY, BUT IT MADE HIS STEERING HARDER TO TURN.
LOOSE STEERING, ALMOST DANGEROUS HANDLING ON HIGHWAYS WHEN PASSING VEHICLES, ESPECIALLY TRUCKS. DIFFICULT TO KEEP IN LANE.
BRAND NEW 2018 JL WRANGLER RUBICON 2 DR OWNED FOR 2 WEEKS FRAME APPEARS TO BE SPRAY PAINTED ALL WELDS ARE RUSTED. NEVER BEEN IN THE RAIN OR EVEN WASHED. JEEP HAS 16 MILES ON IT. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS FOR ANY NEW VEHICLE. JEEP SHOULD HAVE ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE INSTEAD OF TRYING TO COVER IT UP WITH SPRAY PAINT THAT ISN'T STICKING ANYMORE.

RECENTLY FCA STARTED A RECALL CAMPAIGN (UA5) TO INSPECT AND REPAIR THE FRONT TRACK BAR BRACKET WELDS BUT AT THE MOMENT IT IS INCOMPLETE WITH NO SOLUTION. THIS IS PRETTY ALARMING TO ME SINCE THIS CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE STEERING RESPONSE. NOW I AM AFRAID TO TAKE LONG RIDES ON THE VEHICLE AND I AM SCARE TO LET MY WIFE DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I TALK TO FCA AND THEY SAID IT IS STILL SAFE TO DRIVE, BUT AFTER READING SOME OF THE EXPERIENCE OF WRANGLER OWNERS THAT HAD THEIR TRACK BAR WELDS BROKEN I DON'T THINK IS SAFE. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP VEHICLE GOING STRAIGHT IN ONE LANE. STEERING REQUIRES NEAR CONSTANT INPUT AND OVER CORRECTION WHICH CAUSES MORE SWAYING. ANY DRIVING IS DIFFICULT TO WITH ONE HAND. WHEN ON HIGHWAY PASSING A LARGE TRUCK, THE LOOSE STEERING IS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND MAKES THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATES THE STEERING AS NORMAL AND DRIVES SIMILAR TO NEW VEHICLES ON THE LOT. THERE ARE VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE DOCUMENTING THIS ISSUE WITH INDEPENDENT TECHNICIANS COMING UP WITH NON OEM ENDORSED REPAIRS. THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATES THAT THESE REPAIRS CAN NOT BE PERFORMED BECAUSE FCA HAS NOT AUTHORIZED ANY REPAIRS AND WOULD VOID WARRANTY. VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE MAJORITY OF ALL WELDS THAT CONNECT PARTS/FRAME/BODY. THEY ARE EXTREMELY POROUS WHICH WILL CAUSE THE WELDS TO FAIL OVER TIME DUE TO RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT, SOME ARE VERY VERY THIN WHICH WILL CAUSE FAILURE JUST FROM EVERY DAY USE, AND SOME ARE NOT EVEN CONNECTING THE PART TO THE FRAME/BODY WHICH WILL CAUSE DEADLY FAILURE WHEN THE PART COMES OFF FROM SHEARING. THE CONTACT WENT TO ANOTHER UNKNOWN DEALER AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WERE CONDUCTING AN INVESTIGATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,700.
THE JEEP IS UNCONTROLLABLE AT HIGH SPEEDS AND THE STEERING IS HIGHLY FLAWED. WE WERE NOT TOLD WHEN WE PICKED UP THE VEHICLE TWO WEEKS AGO THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING. THERE IS EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE WHEEL SO THERE IS ABOUT 10 DEGREES OF TURN WHERE THE STEERING IS NOT AFFECTED. THE VEHICLE BASICALLY BOUNCES BACK AND FORTH IN THE LANE AND IT IS HARD TO CONTROL. THE FASTER, THE MORE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. WHEN OUR SON WAS TRYING TO MERGE ONTO A HIGHWAY HE SAID IT BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE AND HE THE JEEP STARTED OSCILLATING BACK AND FORTH UNTIL HE LOST CONTROL. THE JEEP SPUN OUT AND LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT. THE VEHICLE CANNOT DRIVE IN A STRAIGHT LINE, TAKES EXCESSIVE INPUT TO CONTROL, AND IS UNSAFE FOR LOW TIME DRIVERS. WE HAVE TAKEN THE JEEP BACK FOUR TIMES AND THE DEALERSHIP NOW HAS POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE WITH NO FIX AVAILABLE. THEY HAVE NOT ADMITTED NOR DENIED THERE IS A SAFETY PROBLEM OTHER THAN SAYING THEY ARE WORKING WITH FCA REPS TO FIND A SOLUTION. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE ON US HIGHWAYS. THE VEHICLE EXHIBITS EXCESSIVE DRIFTING AND A SIGNIFICANT DEAD-SPOT IN THE CENTER. I HAVE VISITED THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR AND HE FINALLY SHOWED ME A DOCUMENT THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. I HAVE ONLY 500 MILES ON THE TRUCK BECAUSE WE ARE SCARED TO DRIVE IT AND HURT OURSELVES OR SOMEONE ELSE.
