TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, ONE WEEK AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. THE SERVICE TRANSMISSION AND THE SERVICE ENGINE INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE CHAMPION CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE DEALER (9655 FIRESTONE BLVD, DOWNEY, CA 90241, 562-231-3500) WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE MODULE INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO GIVE MORE TIME FOR FURTHER TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT YET RETRIEVED THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE IF IT WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 300.
JEEP STEERING HAS A DEAD SPOT, WHICH ALLOW THE JEEP TO WANDER BACK AND FORTH IN A LANE. IF IT HAS ANY SIDE WIND THE JEEP BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. SEEM LIKE TO MUCH PLAY IN THE STEERING BOX. THIS IS NOT A JEEP THING AS THE DEALER STATES, ITS A REAL PROBLEM THAT FCA SEEM TO NOT WANT TO ADDRESS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AND ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (WESTBORN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM, 23300 MICHIGAN AVE, DEARBORN, MI) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SOFTWARE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,000.
AS I WAS EXITING THE HIGHWAY I NOTICED THAT FLAMES WERE COMING OUT OF THE JEEP. I MERGED TWO LANES OVER TO TRY TO TURN ON A SIDE STREET AND LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING. I PUT THE JEEP IN PARK, TURNED IT OFF, AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. WE RAN UP A NEAR BY HILL, TURNED AROUND AND THE ENTIRE JEEP WAS ENGULFED WITH FLAMES. IT BURNED FOR AN HOUR. IT IS A COMPLETE LOSS. *TT *DT*JB
WHILE THE DEFROST WAS ON HEAT, AND WITH COLD TEPERATURES OUTSIDE, THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED ON ITS OWN
THE VEHICLE WANDERS ON THE ROAD AND REQUIRES TOO MUCH CORRECTIVE STEERING. THE DEALER TOLD ME UP TO 2 1/2' OF STEERING WHEEL PLAY IS ACCEPTABLE, BUT I FEEL IT'S UNSAFE. ESPECIALLY IN WINDY CONDITIONS IN THE MOUNTAINS, AND ABOVE 50 MPH, THE STEERING IS VERY UNRESPONSIVE AND THE VEHICLE SOMETIMES WANDERS SEVERAL FEET FROM THE TRAVEL LANE WHILE I TRY TO CORRECT THE ANGLE. THIS IS THE 32ND JEEP I HAVE OWNED, AND OUR FAMILY STILL HAS THREE OTHERS, INCLUDING A 35 YEAR OLD CJ-8. ALL OF THEM STEER MUCH BETTER THAN MY COMPLETELY STOCK 2018 RUBICON. MY JEEP IS 14 MONTHS OLD AND HAS 10,000 MILES ON IT. IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER A FEW TIMES AND THEY TELL ME THE STEERING IS NORMAL FOR THIS MODEL, AT THE SAME TIME ADMITTING THAT THE JL STEERING IS WORSE THAN PRIOR YEARS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO MAKE THIS VEHICLE SAFER.
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IF A BUMP OR HOLE IS HIT THE FRONT END WILL DEVELOP A WOBBLE. THIS INCLUDES THE STEERING WHEEL JIGGLING FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THE WOBBLE GOES AWAY WHEN THE BRAKES ARE HEAVILY APPLIED. DEALER SERVICE RESPONSE WAS "NO PROBLEM FOUND". PROBLEM CONTINUES. THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY STOCK INCLUDING ORIGINAL TIRES AND WHEELS.
SENT TO TOWER IN PLYMOUTH MI TO WELD JEEP FRAMES THAT ROBOT WAS NOT WELDING CORRECTLY. TOLD TO JUST COVER THEM UP AND THEY WILL JUST PAINT FRAMES. TOLD THEY HAVE TO MEET THEIR PRODUCTION NUMBERS. I WOULD NOT DRIVE OR WANT ANYONE ELSE TO DRIVE ONE OF THESE.*DT*JB
RUST ON THE FRAME (MAINLY THE WELDS) AND HUBS. THE DOORS LEAK ON DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS FLOOR WHEN OPENED DURING RAIN. STEERING HAS PLAY WHEN GOING THROUGH TURNS WHILE MAINTAINING HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
MY WELDS TO THE TRACK BAR ARE A MAJOR CONCERN TO ME AND MY FAMILY. THEY DON'T LOOK TO BE COMPLIANT AND I'M CONCERNED THAT THEY MAY BREAK. THERE'S A RECALL AND MY VIN DOESN'T SEEM TO BE IN THE CURRENT RECALL BUT THEY LOOK WORSE THAN ONES THAT ARE CURRENTLY IN THE RECALL LIST. PLEASE SEE ATTACHMENTS.
FRAME WELD DEFICIENCIES ON 2018 JL JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON 4DR BUILT 01/31/18 SUMMARY A DEFECT PETITION WAS RECEIVED BY THE OFFICE OF DEFECTS INVESTIGATION (ODI) REQUESTING A FORMAL INVESTIGATION OF MODEL YEAR 2018JL JEEP WRANGLER VEHICLES FOR THE EXISTENCE OF WELD RELATED SAFETY DEFECTS LOCATED ON THE VEHICLE FRAME. THE PETITIONER ALLEGES WIDESPREAD WELD DEFECTS ACROSS "NEARLY ALL" 2018 JEEP WRANGLER (SPECIFICALLY JL FAMILY CODE) VEHICLE FRAMES. THE PETITION DESCRIBES A BROAD LIST OF FRAME WELD DEFICIENCIES, INCLUDING POROUS WELDS, EXCESSIVE SLAG, LACK OF WELD PENETRATION, OVER PENETRATION OF WELDS, OVERWELD OR WELD DRIP, AND WELD SPLASH. THE WELD DEFECTS ARE ALLEGEDLY LOCATED AT A VARIETY OF LOCATIONS ON THE FRAME ASSEMBLY INCLUDING THE TRACK BAR BRACKET WELDS THAT HAVE BROKEN AND RESULTED IN STEERING CONCERNS (SEE NHTSA SAFETY RECALL 18V-675). THE PETITIONER ALLEGES THAT THE EXISTENCE OF THE DESCRIBED WELD DEFECTS COULD RESULT IN "CATASTROPHIC FAILURE." WE HAVE A LOOSE/PLAY IN THE STEERING ON OUR 2018 JEEP WRANGLER JL RUBICON, MOSTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IT'S DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN IT'S LANE WHEN DRIVING, IT REQUIRES CONSTANT STEERING WHEEL CORRECTION TO KEEP THE VEHICLE GOING IN A STRAIGHT LINE, IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL HAS TO MUCH PLAY BETWEEN TURNING THE WHEEL AND THE TIRES TURNING. WE HAVE HAD IT TO OUR LOCAL DEALER HERE IN JACKSONVILLE, FL AND THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE.
ON 2/9/18, FLEW FROM BOSTON TO PICK UP PURCHASE OF NEW 2018 ALL-PURPLE, 2-DOOR 40K JEEP AT CANANDAIGUA NY JEEP DEALERSHIP. (NONE AVAILABLE IN MASS.) UPON DELIVERY ON LOT, DRIVER DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE COMPLETELY. SALESMAN ROBERTS STATED TO US THAT ALL JEEPS ARE QUIRKY; DOORS MUST BE SLAMMED TO CLOSE. DURING 400-MILE HIGHWAY DRIVE HOME, DOOR AJAR LIGHT CAME ON AND HAD TO RE-CLOSE DOOR REPEATEDLY DURING DRIVE. REPORTED PROBLEM TO (ABSENTEE) OWNERS HARRY/SCOTT KESEL, CHRYSLER CORPORATE STEVE STANDER, AND 1-800-JEEP REP D. PITTMAN; ALSO BROUGHT CAR TO KELLY JEEP SERVICE (LYNNFIELD, MA). ALL JEEP REPS TOLD ME THAT JEEP CABINS ARE AIRTIGHT WHEN CLOSED, CAUSING DOOR PROBLEM. THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN IF YOU SKIP THE DRIVER SIDE AND ENTER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. JEEP REPS TOLD ME TO LIVE WITH PROBLEM - NO REPAIR NECESSARY, AND INSTRUCTED ME TO: ENTER CAR DRIVER'S SIDE, TURN ON IGNITION; POWER DOWN WINDOW; RE-OPEN DOOR; SLAM AGAIN. DUE TO IMPENDING DANGER, THIS CAR HASN'T BEEN DRIVEN SINCE PURCHASE AND IS AT SERVICE DEPT. FOR 35 DAYS, MILEAGE: 400. I DO NOT WANT MY DAUGHTERS DRIVING THIS JEEP FOR OBVIOUS SAFETY REASONS AND TO PREVENT THEM FROM BEING TARGETED IN A DARK PARKING LOT BECAUSE OF THIS NOTICEABLE DIVERSION TO ATTEMPT TO CLOSE THE DOOR. NO FACTORY OR ZONE AREA MANAGER HAS INSPECTED, NOR HAS CANANDAIGUA DEALER OWNER, WHO PRACTICED OTHER FALSE AND DECEPTIVE SALES TACTICS ON ME. DEALERSHIP OWNER SCOTT KESEL WILL NOT TAKE BACK THE CAR OR COMPENSATE LOSS OF $6,000 FOR A TRADE-IN. HE BLAMES JEEP FACTORY; JEEP BLAMES DEALERSHIP. BOTH CLAIM THAT THE OTHER PARTY IS RESPONSIBLE. CHRYSLER CORPORATE REP SAID CORPORATE DOESN'T SPEAK TO OR INFLUENCE DEALER OWNER'S RESPONSE TO CUSTOMERS -- HANDS OFF. DEALER SAID HE'LL DO WHAT EVER CHRYSLER DIRECTS HIM TO DO. I AM PAYING FOR A CAR THAT I DON'T HAVE AND CAN'T USE.
STEERING HAS ABOUT 2 INCHES OF PLAY (DEAD SPOT) ON CENTER. JEEP WANTS TO WANDER AND DRIFT I HAVE HAD THIS JEEP TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERS WITH THIS PROBLEM WITH NEGATIVE RESULTS. I WAS TOLD THIS IS THE WAY THEY DRIVE. THIS IS NOT MY FIRST WRANGLER. I DROVE A 2011 JK WRANGLER FOR 7 YEARS AND I CAN SAY WITHOUT RESERVATION THIS IS NOT THE WAY THEY DRIVE.
VEHICLE IS HARD TO STEER AND KEEP IN LANE. THERE SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE EVEN WITH CONSTANT ATTENTION IT IS ALL OVER THE PLACE. EVEN AT SLOWER SPEEDS OF 30MPH THE EFFECT CAN BE FELT. HIGHER SPEEDS ARE VERY SCARY AND OFTEN PEOPLE BEHIND ME WONDER IF I AM DRIVING DRUNK.

I PURCHASED VEHICLE IN FEB 2018. WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK OR TWO STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS. A COWORKER PURCHASED A 2018 JEEP CHEROKEE. SHE RETURNED IT IN TWO MONTHS BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT START. ANOTHER COWORKER'S GIRLFRIEND PURCHASED A 2018 RUBICON WITH ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEMS, STARTING ISSUES, AND RADIO NOT WORKING. MY VEHICLE HISTORY: REAR DEFROSTER SENSOR ON BACK WINDOW DOES NOT STAY SECURED. 4TH RETURN TO DEALER. SECOND WINDOW TO BE REPLACED. PANEL LIGHT FOR REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER CONTINUES TO LIGHT, BUT SENSOR IS NOT CONNECTED. HAVE BEEN ON WAIT LIST SINCE MARCH 2019 FOR NEW WINDOW TO ARRIVE. IT APPEARS THE SENSOR CORD IS TOO SHORT TO REACH WINDOW WHEN RAISING. DEATH WOBBLE HAS HAPPENED 3X WHILE IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY AND HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP 3X FOR THIS ISSUE. VEHICLE DOES NOT CORRECT ITSELF WHILE DRIVING AND IT FEELS LIKE THE VEHICLE IS COMING APART. HAD TO CONTINUE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, SLOWING DOWN DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM, UNTIL I REACHED A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER. ONCE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, IT CORRECTED ITSELF. THE JEEP LOOSES TOTAL CONTROL AND I AM AFRAID SOMETHING MAY COME APART CAUSING INJURY OR DEATH. FREEDOM TOPS HAD RATTLE INSIDE OF THEM WITH HUGE WIND NOISE WHEN IN MOTION. PROBLEM CORRECTED WHEN DEALERSHIP SWITCHED OUT FREEDOM TOPS. NOW THE FREEDOM TOP IS TOO BIG FOR FREEDOM BAG. THE BAG APPEARS TO BE COMING APART WHEN ZIPPED. DROVE TO STORE AND GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE. TRIED TO REMOTE LOCK THE VEHICLE, WHICH FAILED. TRIED TO START JEEP, IT WOULD NOT START. FOLLOWED INSTRUCTIONS ON PANEL TO USE KEY BY PLACING CLOSE TO REMOTE START BUTTON. AFTER A SECOND TRY IT STARTED. RADIO PLAYING TWO STATIONS AT ONE TIME. BACK CAMERA WOULD NOT WORK. KEY FOB REPLACED AS IT WAS FALLING APART. ARMREST REPLACED, WOULD NOT CONNECT WHEN ENCLOSED IN HOLDER. ALL BEGAN IN 2/2018. DATE I AM ABOUT TO ENTER BELOW IS FOR THE WOBBLE.
POOR WELDS ON FRAME
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE BRAKES MADE SQUEAKING NOISES WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT NOTICED A BURNING ODOR AND SMOKE COMING FROM THE BRAKES. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURES RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SOUTH HILLS CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM FIAT (3344 WASHINGTON RD, MCMURRAY, PA 15317, 724-941-4300) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 243. *DT
Dashboard information disappears at random including mileage, speedometer, etc. Radio and backup cam freeze and reset regularly. Taken to dealership multiple times since 2018 and they never fix it.
My 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara is experiencing a complete and permanent failure of the instrument panel cluster, which has gone entirely black. This is the exact safety defect described in Recall 24V-652 (Jeep Recall Code 30B), yet my VIN is currently being excluded from coverage. This is a severe safety hazard as I have suffered a total loss of critical safety information; I cannot see my vehicle speed, fuel level, engine temperature, or any vital warning lights while driving. This defect leaves me unable to monitor the vehicle's operation, significantly increasing the risk of a crash or being stranded, and a local dealership has quoted me thiusands to repair this known manufacturing defect. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate why my vehicle is excluded from this recall despite exhibiting identical hardware failure symptoms.
