Death Wobble yet again. Since September 2022 I have been experiencing unprecedented steering issues with my 2020 Jeep. This issue occurs out of random where it feels like my tires shake independently from each other making a rumbling noises when driving highway speeds. I am sure it has Death Wobble. Today is the lost current incident. When I was safe to be in a stopping point I told a family member about it. This family member told me that this is a big issue that should have a recall. They suggested for me to see for any recalls about it and if not start reporting whenever these death wobbles happen again. I looked and there are no recalls for my vehicle at this time. Vehicle has been reregistered in California and originally from Texas. I have no idea of where it was manufactured information due to this.
Check engine, ABS, Sway Bar lights came on. Service shifter and suspension warnings. Loss of power steering almost caused me to drive off road at 30 MPH.
I was driving on the highway merging on a bridge before entering a tunnel, there was a car in from of me that was rolling slow. My Forward Collision Warning did not go off when the car was in front of me but when the car was about 3-4 car lengths away and was driving away the warning went off and the emergency automatic brake engaged and there was nothing in front of me. I was almost rear ended and could not get my Jeep to move. The automatic brake disengaged and I was then able to drive normally.
Driving on the highway, when the roadway changed from paved to a bridge roadway, the vehicle began shaking uncontrollably and i had to hit my brakes and pull off the side of the road. I was going 75mph at the time. The vehicle now shakes uncontrollably when i hit any type of bump and i have to pull over. my front tires start shaking like a broken shopping cart wheel and it looks like they’re about to fall off when looking at the car from outside. I went to jeep and they said the issue is a steering damper issue. based on several online reports, it looks like this is a common issue with jeeps and no recall is being put out
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the vehicle started shaking uncontrollably. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was made aware that the failure was a known failure; however, there was no recall on the VIN for the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the steering gearbox needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 47,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that there was a strong fuel odor inside and outside of the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the fuel odor had become stronger over time. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the fuel supply line connector was fractured and leaking fuel. The mechanic related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V665000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact the vehicle could not be repaired under the recall as the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.
I am not clear 100 percent but the brand new car (leased) was brought in 3 separate times with electrical issues (towed twice) when it had under 20k miles on it In Jan 2023 when I was driving on a major parkway in NY the electrical system went-my steering locked up and I had to somehow get off road and onto median. I was towed to a gas station in Hempstead I believe then had to pay to town home (I forgot to call keep roadside as my sod was not working ) It is now sitting in ny in my moms driveway -I am due to return the leased card in march so I am still paying for an inoperable car I flew to FL which is where I now live and needed a car so went to Schumaker jeep in Delray I have a new jeep that appears to have failed testing (I found a piece of paper in console (vin for this new car is [XXX]) And the radio console screen and interior lights dim out of nowhere or go completely black even though radio/etc on. I’ve reported to dealers here in FL -to the Chrysler capital corporate and keep corporate phones-have 2 case numbers with no follow up. Went to a keep dealer to have diagnostic testing but looks like that didn’t really happen as I wasn’t given a sheet showing the completed testing. I’m not sure how to resolve my issues and I’m worried I’m again in an unsafe car which seems to be missing safety protections (side view mirror blind spot alerts) my 2020 keep had and def seems to have some electrical issues or has failed battery charging, I don’t know how to get help for either car and am worried I’m driving an unsafe car. The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V767000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the stuck throttle body warning light illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the computer to be re-flashed. The dealer replaced the brake controller and battery; however, the failure recurred, with the vehicle stalling and failing to restart. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 47,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
I was driving on highway Jan 2023 at about 75-80 mph and hit a small road imperfection in the middle lane. The Jeep started shaking uncontrollably. I had to fight to keep the car steady and thought I had blown out a tire. I was able to pull to breakdown lane and slow down and it gradually stopped shaking. The violent shaking and noise scared both me and my daughter who was a passenger. Weeks later I got a notice of a class-action lawsuit regarding this issue and the steering damper. I brought it in for service and they fixed it. However, it was NOT covered by Chrysler so I am stuck with the deductible. Disappointed in this as it was an obvious, known problem that I would consider a safety issue. A quick search of it reveals many complaints, a lawsuit, etc and yet no recourse for me. Do better Chrysler/Jeep
THE CAR STOPPES EVERY FEW WEEKS AND THE BATTERY NEEDS TO BE JUMPED, I TOOK IT TO GET THE BATTERY CHECKED AND NO ISSUES WITH THE BATTERY ALTERNATOR AND STARTER.
On January 2, 2023, at about 4:00 PM I encountered the ‘Death Wobble’ while driving in my 2020 Jeep Wrangler (2-door) VIN: [XXX], purchased from Dave Smith Motors, Kellogg, ID on about 7/17/2020. I was driving North on I-15 about 10 miles South of Nephi, UT. I was traveling in the left lane at Freeway speeds (75-80 mph) when the front of the vehicle commenced to shake violently. My first thought was that both front tires had blown, although I did not observe any obstacles on the wet driving lanes. My second thought was, how do I get out of these mess without causing a major accident on that very busy stretch of Freeway holiday traffic? I, of course, braked and pulled to the left in an attempt to avoid getting rear-ended and immediately encountered snow and ice on the left shoulder and then on the ground adjacent to the Freeway. I managed to get off the Freeway, but continued to fishtail, almost losing control on the snow and ice. Eventually the vehicle ended up in a sideways slide perpendicular to the Freeway with the front of the vehicle aimed at the Freeway and heavy TRAFFIC! At that point I had no control over the vehicle as it continued to slide sideways headed for a huge drainage ditch. Luckily, we stopped before the precipice. I scrambled out of the vehicle as soon as it stopped sliding to see what had happened to the front end of the Jeep. There was no obvious damage, the tires were not flat, and I couldn’t figure out what had happened. I have now received a NOTICE OF PROPOSED CLASS SETTLEMNT, that upon further research informs me that 2020 Jeep Wranglers have a manufacture defect that causes the ‘Death Wobble’ in precisely the conditions that existed with me. “…2020 Jeep Wranglers …have a front suspension steering damper defect that causes the steering wheel and front suspension of the vehicle to shake after contact with a bumpy road surface at highway speed.” I was not aware of the Manufacturer's defect. The JEEP is unsafe!! INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Bubble paint appeared on all the car doors including the truck door as well as the engine door and the windshield frame driver corner. I went to south bank dealer in Ottawa and the took pictures many time and they say approved and never call. And then they say they will fix the spots only which is so weird to fix rusted bubbled paint in a new car. They should change all the doors as the metal is already damaged by rust. These cars are expensive and quality and guarantees should be provided for such vehicles. The factory should recall my car for full repaint or change color if needed on new doors and the whole car. You can go on Google and just type bubble paint on Jeep and you will see these cars are treated in the market. The company treated this car like garbage because of the paint reputation on a famous American car. I first reported to the dealer on November 2022 and then Jan or Feb 2023 ( don’t remember) My phone number is 1613-262-6661
Driving on highway, 80 miles an hour in Southern Utah, three times I hit a normal bridge / road seam and the Jeep "Death Wobble" occurred. This is a well known thing amongst Jeep owners, but since I was a new owner I had no idea what was going on. After slowing down the wobble stopped. I thought I was going to crash. I am making an appointment with my local Jeep dealer to have it looked at.
I have a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport. The instrument cluster on my Jeep had been flashing for awhile back in 2022 and finally went completely black in December 2022. I could not see my digital speed, gas, etc. I finally took it to the dealership in July of 2023 after saving money for the repair (since it was no longer under warranty) and it ended up being the instrument cluster that went bad. $1k + repair later and here we are with other Jeeps having the instrument cluster recalled when mine fell within the criteria but I have not received anything about a refund for the recall that we had to pay for.
While highway driving, at about 50mph making a very slight curve to the right the steering wheel began to shake violently left and right making nearly impossible to steer the vehicle. This has been called the “death wobble” among many people who have had this happen.
I was driving my 2020 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with 34,950 miles on it on the night of 12/13/2022 along I 89 in New Hampshire at a steady 65mph in 6th gear in the far-left lane. Suddenly the tachometer started soaring towards the redline. Before it hit redline, there was an explosion underneath the Jeep. As I looked in the mirror to get to the side of the road, I saw two chunks of glowing hot metal exiting the underside. There were no warning lights or other indication of what was about to happen. I got it safely to the breakdown lane. Someone called in a small brush fire because a fire truck showed up, then a couple of State Police Troopers showed up and helped call a tow truck. It cost $350 for the tow to the nearest dealership and the Uber home. At the dealership I could see a huge crack in the transmission case. From the repair order included, there was damage to the clutch, transmission, starter, flywheel, electrical harness and main seal. I was told the faulty parts were returned to Jeep for inspection. There was a recall on the clutch pressure plate (21V-028) and the "repair" had been completed on my vehicle. The "repair" did not work and people are going to get hurt. Although no one was injured this time, this could have ended very badly if the hot metal shrapnel cut a tire or hit a car behind me. From my little bit of research, this failure is becoming quite common and many people are driving a ticking time bomb.
2020 JEEP WRANGLER JL 3.6 CYLINDER IS LOOSING ENGINE COOLANT CAUSING ENGINE TO POTENTIALLY OVERHEAT. MANY FORUMS ARE REPORTING THIS AS A PROBLEM.
At highway speeds, when hitting a bump, the front end vibrates and becomes a unstable. The corrective action is slowing down and the speed limit, in traffic, until the vibration disappears. There's a known factory fix for this issue. The vehicle had the a new or replacement part installed during the summer. The issue appeared resolved until today (2022-11-25) when it occurred twice.
We are experiencing the "jeep death wobble" intermittently, usually at speeds 60-70 mph only happens when hitting a bump, it shakes steering wheel violently until finally slowing down to 50-55 mph. Our jeep is all stock, with standard street tires and Never been off-road. Our Jeep has 28,000 miles and is still under warranty, although warranty ending March 2023. We have had it to dealership two times already, they replaced the steering stabilizer with a BDI brand after market stabilizer (experienced death wobble on way home from dealership after this was replaced) they also checked front end alignment which had no issues. They now want to try and change tires, which through my own research do not think this will help. I am now reaching out to another local Jeep Dealership to see if they will check it out.
Hitting a bump when greater than 50 mph the front end would begin "death wobbling". I would have to slow down and pull over to the side to prevent losing control of vehicle. Took car to shop and had front end alignment and this did not fix problem. We then took the jeep into a specialist shop and they stated that they had not seen this on a non-modified jeep but had heard that the issue was happening. A new steering stabilizer was placed and the problem has been resolved. I was contacted regarding a lawsuit and would like reimbursement for the repairs.
When driving at 65 mph and hitting uneven pavement the vehicle will begin shaking violently. When slowed to 45 mph it will come out of it. Jeep Dealership suggested replacing steering stabilizer. When part replaced as well as alignment checked twice the vehicle continues to have death wobble.
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, and at various speeds, the driver's side visor detached and struck the contact on the face. The contact stated that the visor startled her, causing her to swerve the vehicle. The contact stated that the visor on the passenger’s side also detached from the roof anchor point. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the visors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure reoccurred with both visors. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
One side of the The visor on the drivers side continues to fall out. Seems it’s a compression based design.
When driving on the interstate and going highway speeds, my Jeep will begin to wobble profusely and I must immediately get off the road as fast as possible to regain control. "Death wobble". All original factory parts and tires on the vehicle and this happens every time that I get on the highway and go over 55 miles per hour and hit any road defect, whether it be a bump or bridge gap. I have had the alignment checked and it does not help the problem at all. No warning lights or any type of notification other than the steering wheel beginning to shake and lose control of the front steering.
Both drivers and passenger side sun visors have fallen off at the hinge with minimal use. Vehicle is under 60k miles and bought new.
I HAD THE REAR DEFROST REPAIRED AT THE JEEP DEALER UNDER THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. THE FIRST TIME I USED THE REAR DEFROST IN COLD WEATHER AFTER THE REPAIR THE REAR WINDOW EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. EXTREMELY LOUD EXPLOSION AND GLASS WAS EVERWHERE IN THE REAR SEAT AND BEHIND THE REAR SEATS. NOBODY WAS IN THE BACK SEAT THERFORE NO INJURIES.
The Jeep steering system allows it to wander down the road with occasional slight lock. On the highway it will move to the left and right and you need to continuously correct its path. While passing a large truck on the highway the wind can cause you to move several feet to the left. Sometimes there is a feel like the steering locks. When parked in the driveway the steering wheel moves 2.5” to 3” before the front wheel move It has not been inspected but will be today by a dealer. I was told by the sales dealership (a different one) that this was normal. There are no warning lights Yes the jeep can be inspected anytime
The jeep wanders down the road, on its own it moves from L to R or R to L. You have had 233 complaints about this model and 153 have been about steering problems. Do you think an investigation is warranted? This is now #154. No satisfaction form dealer. I guess no ones been killed yet so it’s a write off as a one off. This needs to be dealt with. Both of the sun visors became loose and the driver side in particular will dangle down in front of windshield, blocking vision. This is a common defect on Wrangler JL/Gladiators that is the result of a design flaw in the retaining mechanism. This can happen without notice and while driving at any speed. For me it happened on interstate that the visor fell down, blocking my view.
The vehicle begins to shake violently after hitting a sudden bump in the road causing the vehicle to become uncontrollable. This happens at speeds in excess of 40mph. We asked both the dealer and jeep to look at the issue and they said it was not covered by the warranty and there were no warning light indicators.
After stopping my Jeep on September 27th smoke was coming out of the engine immediately. There had been no warning lights on the dash or any smells from the engine. I got out and tried to open the hood and the engine was already fully engulfed in fire. Our Jeep had never had any engine trouble or been into the dealership except to have the oil changed. Upon doing my own investigation I have seen many of these fires. Something is definitely wrong with this engine. I could have lost my life.
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at an undetermined speed, the vehicle stalled. While using the Stop/Start feature, the vehicle stalled while in drive. The vehicle was restarted. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who informed her that the battery would have potentially exploded if she had continued to drive the vehicle. The mechanic noticed that the battery was smoking. The vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was informed that the batteries needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified about the failure but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
Got stuck in an isolated place due to Engine Overheat. Found a Water coolant leaked due to loose bolt/screw on water pump inlet. I just learned that it is common to 2018-2020 Jeep Wrangler JLU with 2.0 Engine
I have had issues with the Steering Damper (?)/"Death Wobble" for months. I took it in to get fixed in Dec. 2021 and was told they couldn't replicate the problem to fix it. It happened twice the following day. It has been getting progressively worse causing uncontrollable steering and the jeep swaying all over the road. I've had to pull over, slow down or break just to prevent the Jeep from going off the road in an uncontrolled manner. I have now made a 2nd appt. to get this fixed.
While driving on the freeway at 75mph in 2wd the rear axle locker comes on by itself. You will press the button to disengage it and it will just blink. Sometimes it will release, but will turn back on by itself. This is not safe and left my vehicle in a compromising condition.
I had been driving my car off and on throughout the day without incidence. I stopped by the the grocery store and went in for a very short amount of time. I came out and cranked my car, it cranked as normal. I drove out of the parking lot into traffic and the car just started going haywire then shut off. Lights were flashing inside the car, the dash lights kept coming on and off, the wipers were moving even though they had not been on previously. I turned on my hazard lights and they would only illuminate in the front of the vehicle, but also intermittently. I had no means of warning other drivers, this occurred after dark. The car would not go into neutral so it could be pushed from the roadway. There were no warning lights to let me know anything was wrong. I had no indicators prior to this occurrence and was left completely stranded in traffic in the dark. I was told by the auto shop it was towed to that the issue was the auxiliary battery. This battery was causing a drain on the main battery and therefore shut down.
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while coming to a stop at a stop sign or red light, the Stop/Start feature failed to function. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that a diesel exhaust component needed to be replaced because of a leak. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted, and the contact stated that the Stop/Start feature was not displaying as active. The vehicle was then taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the auxiliary battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.
The contact’s daughter owned a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an unknown speed, another vehicle crashed into the front passenger’s side of the vehicle and another vehicle crashed into the front driver’s side of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to roll three times. The contact stated that the air bags failed to deploy. As a result of the air bag’s failure to perform as needed, the passenger sustained injuries to the chest and head, and also had a seizure. The contact’s daughter sustained an injury to the head and punctured lungs. Medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss by the insurance company. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
I was driving during the night and suddenly the driver sun visor fell apart I was driving on the freeway the windshield on jeeps is little plus the visor on the way was kind of dangerous I had to hold it whit my hand to be able to make it home now I'm just wondering if the dealer is going to cover the repair costs and put something better on place it really is a safety issue that needs to be fixed some how
My vehicle is still at the Jeep dealership service center being repaired, but so far, the reported issue includes a "shorted" fuse block. As I was driving the vehicle, I was approaching a red light when my vehicle abruptly halted. The cars behind & near me were forced to go around to avoid hitting my vehicle. The dashboard initially flashed the message "safety mode" or something similar, the check engine light came on, the brakes locked, & the power steering & windows ceased to function. While I waited for the police, I tried to restart the vehicle many times, in hopes of getting it into neutral and/or getting it off of the roadway - nothing worked. The vehicle then began to flash the message "Service Electronic Stability Control." The DOTD serviceman & the tow truck driver were unable to get the vehicle into neutral manually, so it had to be dragged using chains. Once the vehicle was towed to the Jeep dealership (Covington, LA), I was first told that the battery had a voltage of 0. After replacing the battery, I was told that the fuse block was shorted. The representative explained the fuse block's purpose, & further explained that because mine shorted, the battery was unable to communicate with the rest of the vehicle, like the alternator & the PCM, on how much voltage was coming out of the system - i.e., since my computer shorted, the vehicle did not know that the battery was dead. Thus, when the battery killed abruptly while driving, the vehicle basically panicked & went into “safe mode” (limp mode) & locked up the entire machine. I asked repeatedly how this happens and how it can be avoided in the future, and while dancing around many indirect answers, the rep stated that my fuse block in this instance basically caused a complete electronic failure of the vehicle. I am an attorney & I have spoken with experts who suggest that this issue should be investigated. It is a serious hazard & a defect for one glitched part to kill the entire machine while driving.
Steering wheel locked while attempting a right turn. This resulted in an accident when vehicle would not turn. After cutting off vehicle and restarting, steering appeared normal.
The steering is very loose in this model, ive read that its caused by an aluminum steering gear and replacements are steel, this is a huge safety concern and a hefty repair a vehicle that had less than 40k miles
Loose steering and unsafe driving mannerisms secondary to poor aluminum steering gear from the factory.
Sun visor - While driving on the interstate, the sun visor detached from the attachment point and obstructed my vision. I pushed the shaft back up and wedged it to get home. I will take it to the dealership to have the sun visor replaced.
The contact's partner owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V767000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Visors are not able to be used due to breaking—this happened within 2 years of purchasing the vehicle and there are forums of over 22 pages dedicated to this issue. I was driving, and the visit just fell from the roof, plastic piece holding it broke, it just dangles from a wire. Cannot see while driving into sun and I am unable to use my visors as a result. Extremely dangerous
I experience extreme shaking of the steering wheel when traveling in the freeway and hitting a small imperfection on the road causing the care to shake and the steering wheel to vibrate violently to the point i have slow down abruptly from 70MPH to under 50MPH. Took the Jeep to have it check after a day the dealer was not able to reproduce the issue, advised them of the speed that it happens at and are not willing to work on it. They are asking me to pick the car up. No warning prior to issue happening, you can be driving smoothly down the road up to 80MPH once the imperfection in the road is hit the car starts vibrating/shaking.
Drivers side sun visor fell from hinge and is hanging by electrical cords. Sun visor spontaneously and repetitively smacks driver every time it drops back out of mount. Resulting in an obstruction of drivers field of view when operating vehicle. Tried to make a service appointment with several local dealerships but all advised of this issue not being a recall therefore not knowing of such problem. There are several incidents documented online in forums by other owners of the same sun visor equipment malfunctioning but no address of such issue by manufacturer. Dealerships seem to handle this issue on a case by case basis. However, sometimes the dealerships are replacing the faulty sun visor with the same faulty sun visor assembly and components - recycling the issue again as a quick fix.
There is a large amount of steering wandering while driving at slow and faster speeds. There is a significant amount of “play” in the steering wheel while driving. I have to constantly correct the wheel while driving to stay in my lane. This is a very dangerous issue for me.
