My 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe died while driving down the road. Luckily I was able to coast to the side and cycle the engine off/on in order to regain power. This was the exact same issue that is described in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V865000, however, this time (2/3/23) was after the ZB7 recall was completed. Even after the recall work was completed and Jeep told me the vehicle was safe to drive, it still failed in the exact same manner. The recall procedure did not work and this vehicle is not safe to drive. Additionally, during the period after the recall was completed and before it died again while driving, the battery range has decreased dramatically (less than 50% of what it was prior to the recall work).
Driving own I95, heading south in Maryland, hit a bump and vehicle started shaking/wobbling, almost lost control and had to slow down until vehicle stopped wobbling. This happen 6-9 times that day. Also has occurred several times in NJ on the turnpike and 280. Contracted Jeep HQ, told to contact a dealer.
Manufacturer Recall Number ZB7 NHTSA Recall Number 22V-865 No JEEP dealerships around NY State (even the Oneonta NY dealership who sold me the actual vehicle) seem willing to assist and schedule a repair. How do I file a complaint?
while driving on highway at 70 mph speed limit hit a pothole and vehicle started shaking violently had to slow to under 30 mph for it to stop. Took to dealer they said they would replace steering dampener. Waited 2 months for part to come in took to work following morning hit another pothole at 70 mph and shook so bad it blurred my vision had to slow to under 30 to get it to stop. At that point almost got rear ended by semi he swerved to avoid hitting me.
The vehicle's engine will randomly shut off and not turn back on. It has been to dealerships over 10 times for the same issue. They all attribute it to the start/stop battery, but it happens even when that feature is turned off. The vehicle's engine will shut off while driving and you cannot shift it into park. The only warning is a check engine light and "service auto start/stop system". There is no warning before the vehicle does it, and I have broken down in intersections, highways, and other dangerous locations. The vehicle duplicated the issue on the dealers lot, but they claim " no codes, no repair".
Death wobble
While driving on the highway I drove over a bridge bump and the truck started to wobble uncontrollably forcing me to slow down to 30 miles per hour before it stopped. This happened two times. We brought it to the dealership who replaced the steering damper and it happened again so they adjusted the camber of the alignment and said it should fix the issue. I have an email from the dealership where we purchased the jeep and the sales manager emailed us back indicating that what the dealership did to correct the issue is correct, but that it is not a permanent fix and that they know of the issue and are not sure how to correct it.
Manufacturer recall. Solution not available.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V116000 (Power Train) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Death wobble: extreme vibration, uncontrollable shaking from side to side when going high speeds and hitting bumps, but also happening at lower speeds now and not large bumps. It will only stop by coming to a close stop, slower than 10-15mph. It is happening much more frequently, and the Jeep only has 26,000 miles and has never been off-road. I bought this Jeep brand new. Ordered it myself. Dealership supposedly fixed it on 02-03-23, but it continues to do it and is getting worse.
The car has been shutting down since its inception. It's gone to the dealership over 4 times. From the loss of power to the complete shutdown during the highway at 65/70 mph with my kids inside. This vehicle is not safe to drive at all. It took the fun out of moving and owning a Jeep. The 4xe is a disaster in the making. Even after the dealership looks into the car over four times, they fixed, patched, software updates, and issues keep happening, which shows that they don't have an answer to this vehicle. The car lasted the last time it went in, over a month in the dealership. If you can't go Electric, don't do it. This car is an issue for families. Highly don't recommend it. It only has 15,980 miles! Brand new car, and it's been more in the dealership than any car I've owned in my life, and I've owned plenty!
JEEP WOBBLE When driving at normal highway speeds the jeep starts shaking uncontrollably if there is a bump in the road. It is difficult to steer and to make it quit shaking I have to slow way down or come to a complete stop. This is very dangerous on the interstate during rush hour. Almost got me rear ended. Jeep is currently at the dealer who tried to tell me at first that it is because I don’t rotate my tires - I showed receipts where I do have them rotated and had just had it balanced twice within a couple weeks. Then they tried to say the tires were worn, but I also have proof from tire shop that they are good tires. Finally they ran out of excuses and admitted it was the common jeep wobble and had to order the part that is now on back order because they have had to change so many.
On Jan. 27, 2023, I was driving my 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (31,440 miles on the odometer) on the interstate, going about 65-70 mph in high volume traffic. Suddenly my right front tire started wobbling like it was going to fall off! I have never experienced anything like this. I was extremely frightened, fearing I might have a wreck or cause someone else to wreck if control of my Jeep were lost. My heart beat sped up, my hands clinched the steering wheel. I was able to slow down and the wobble went away but my anxiety did not go away. It happened about 4 more times that day on the interstate. I was traveling and concerned about my safety and that of others. I was also concerned about what was happening with my Jeep, how could I fix it, COULD it be fixed, and how was I going to pay for it. I thought the front end of my Jeep needed to be re-aligned so I took it to the dealership I bought it from, they inspected it and said it did not alignment. Said the Jeep had developed a "wobble." I was told that parts to fix this issue were not available in the U.S. and they had no ETA on when/if a part would be available. They took my phone number and said they would call if something changed. Now I have a Jeep that I am afraid of - actually terrified of. I only drive on the city streets and stay away from the interstate. My life has been limited in so many way because of this issue. I was not issued any paperwork on this problem.
While turning at low speeds (pulling into a parking spot) and the cruise control is turned on the "set cruise" button is elevated and can be accidentally hit. If the speed of the vehicle is under 20mph it will automatically set the cruise speed to 20mph causing the vehicle to accelerate. This elevated "set cruise" button actives the regular cruise and not the adaptive cruise. This has happened to me over a dozen times. I am lucky it has not caused a wreck.
After entering the highway and going 60MPH+ the vehicle began shaking like crazy. I thought maybe it was road construction causing the shaking. I switched lanes but the shaking continued. I slowed down and it stopped. I sped back up again over 60MPH and it continued. The seat belt locked so that I could barely move. After a search online, this is being categorized as “death wobble” and it’s stated it occurs once the car has a certain amount of miles. Despite this, I don’t see a recall for it. Since this happens only at a high rate of speed, it seems very unsafe and people should be warned.
I have had my 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe for approximately 14 months and have a little over 16,000 miles. My vehicle is now experiencing what is commonly known as the "Jeep Death Wobble". The vehicle will begin to shake violently, especially at higher speeds. It has become nearly impossible to control and is an ongoing issue. My local dealership has been unable and unwilling to fix the problem rapidly.
Jeep has a seriously dangerous issue when you hit a bump on the highway, other online call it a “death wobble”, extremely dangerous, started happened around 21000 miles on ours. Only way to get it to stop shaken is to stop the vehicle. I have several videos of this occurring and would be happy to send them, this app won’t allow videos to be uploaded. I called the dealer to have the issue looked at, no recall has been issued yet according to our dealer.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was started, and the vehicle was driven to the residence. The contact stated that the vehicle was sluggish and was shaking abnormally. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with battery failure. The contact was informed that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that an unknown recall repair was performed two years prior, including the replacement of the battery. In addition, the contact stated that in November 2024, the vehicle was taken to the dealer because the battery was not charging. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed twice; however, the cases were closed. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
Hit a small bump in the road and the steering wheel and tires began shaking violently. I tried slowing down and the vibration continued until I was below 20mph on highway. Not the first time I have experienced this. I had tires balanced, rotated and pressure checked.
I was driving on a highway at between 60 & 65 mph, the wheels crossed an expansion joint in the highway and the steering started vibrating and violently and shaking from side to side. It felt like both wheels were bouncing long after I crossed the joint in the road. I almost lost control of the vehicle. I had to slow down and upon doing so the shaking abated.
Took 2021 Jeep wrangler rubicon 4xe for loss of motive power to victorville jeep California, dealer performed recall when I picked the vehicle I received my vehicle with a check engine light which was bot present at moment of dealership taking vehicle in. Was told due to software update per recall instructions, caused a hybrid module to fail, I was the part was in back order with out a shipping date. Noticed the radio had reset the setting and notified dealership that the controls to adjust the bass and treble were not working properly. Now they called me stating that the radio has some type of noise coming from it and it has to do something with a software update and that they have to replace the subwoofer because it blown. Dealership has had the vehicle since Jan 06th and today is Jan 21 and the new subwoofer won't be until Jan 27th. Please help.
Driving on the highway and hit a bump, Jeep started violently shaking/vibrating (Death Wobble), almost lost control with cars on both sides of my Jeep. The vibration after hitting a bump has happen several times the past two months. Jeep dealership states, vehicle needs a new steering damper/stabilizer. The part is on back order, dealerships can only order so many per week due to the demand/problem with Jeeps. It could take 2-3 months to be fixed and vehicle can not be driven. This also happened with my 2018 Jeep Wrangler.
While driving on the highway the car started to shake violently as if one of the wheels was about to fall off. Pulled over to call jeep service and they said it was most likely a faulty steering dampner and that this has been a major issue for many new wranglers. So much so that parts were on back order at most dealerships. Only way to get expediated was to call Jeep Cares and plead my case. Advice was to drive below 50MPH until they could locate a new part and replace.
The upper spring perch located at passenger rear is welded to the frame on one side and a crossmember on another. The two vertical welds failed with the remaining welds being at the top of the spring perch. The only indications of a problem were an occasional knocking sound when going over a bump and severe vibration coming from the rear of the vehicle. The noise was caused by the spring perch flexing and tapping the bottom of the body. I believe the welds broke early this year but the source of the noise wasn't found until July 2023. With prolonged use in this condition the spring perch can completely fail causing the spring and perch to fall out and make the driver lose control. The dealership submitted pictures and the manufacturer has agreed to replace the entire frame. There are a handful of other people that have reported the same problem (always on the passenger rear) but because of the design, I suspect as these vehicles age stress fractures in the weld will make this issue more prevalent.

Death wobble on highway when you go over a bridge or pavement seam.
As I review events in chronological order, I see that a possible disconnect might be caused by clumping the symptoms together and treating as the “death wobble,” when in fact I may be experiencing two separate issues, the first being a failed steering damper and the second being caused by possible bad ball joint[s]. I first started to experience an issue around 7,000 miles in where the Jeep would pull to the right. It was a strong pull because my steering wheel would be turned to the left at about 15-25 degrees to the left in order to keep straight. had them check the alignment. The invoice said the alignment was checked and it was “ok,” December 24 – Florida gets a cold front and we experienced temperatures in the low 20’s with the high temperature peaking at 32 or 33 degrees for a couple days. I drive my normal route on the highway and as I am approaching 65 mph, I go over a transition from asphalt to concrete bridge and the car starts to do the death wobble, where a strong vibration from the front end shook the car until I let off the gas and slowed down to about 40mph. my sister-in-law also experienced in her 2020 Jeep, the same day the freeze set in. Ive had steering gearbox changed and two stabilizers replaced already, JEEP TSB once stated: JL JT have unique torque values for ball joints as compared to prior JK models due to material (aluminum knuckles) and design changes. I guarantee its the crappy ball joints and they REFUSE to admit it. Jeep still claims they cant duplicate the issue or i need to replace tires (that are wearing unevenly bc of ball joint issues) befor they can continue diagnosis. 4 different dealerships. 4 different outcomes. even [XXX] from their corporate office stopped responding to me. I have a 2021 Sahara Wranger with only 11,000 miles and is only 16mths old, all stock. On November 11, 2021 is the first time experiencing the so called death wobble. I hit a divot from a recessed reflector that lines the yellow lines in the road. I was going only 55 when I only drove over two, when suddenly my steering wheel and while Jeep started shaking violently. I let my foot off the accelerator , letting the Jeep slow down to under 50 when it finally stopped. It was very frightening to me and my daughter and called the dealership immediately to report the issue and was very nervous to drive it again. After inspection at the dealership I was told they couldn’t find a problem so I took off feeling maybe it was just a freak thing. But then a month later the same thing happened, but this time I was coming down a steep grade around 60mph when there was a small divot that I ran over and again the steering wheel shacking violently and the whole Jeep shaking worse then the first time. I tried not to break and let my foot off the accelerator again, but this time the Jeep wouldn’t slow down by its self because I was going down hill. I thought I was going to loose control of the vehicle and crash. Shaking, I pulled over and called the dealership immediately. I told them I was afraid to drive the vehicle and I wanted it taken care of immediately. I had to have my husband drive it to the dealership for me, because I was to scared. After hours and hours or research on the internet, I don’t understand why this hasn’t been recalled. It is a serious safety issue and needs to be addressed. My Jeep has now been in the shop for three days, and I have not been given and information on what they are doing about it. I have read many many articles on how the dealership will just use a bandaid to fix it and it will happen again. I’m not sure if I can feel safe ever driving it again. This is a band new vehicle and everyone with this 2021 model should be contacted and told about this
When driving at high speeds and hit a bump the vehicle's front suspension starts wobbling and keeps it up till you reduce speed. Not able to drive over 60 MPH, worried the wobble may start from hitting a bump.
Recently had recall performed for loss of motive power. Now when shifting between gears, it is often firm or jerky and has vibrating/shuddering during acceleration.
Windshield defroster does not defrost the edges of the windshield.
At highway speeds after hitting a pothole, small bump, or bridge transition the vehicle begins to shake violently. The steering wheel, and all front end suspension components will shake violently until the vehicle is slowed back down below 40 miles per hour. This has happened multiple times. Looking online this has been encountered by other motorists and is commonly known as the “Jeep Death Wobble.” This is extremely unsafe because it could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. It can also cause an accident because once it happens the driver has to immediately slow down to 40. When this happens in the passing lane/multi lane highway with other vehicles behind it could cause a pile up accident. The driver can’t anticipate when it will happen.
Death Wobble: Front suspension shakes uncontrollably after bumps at highway speed. Vibration gets worse and worse unless speed is reduced sharply.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled with the output control and collision warning lights illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer on numerous occasions; however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was 23,915.
Engine shut off completely in August of 2021 and then again today (12/15/22). In both cases, there was no warning. Thankfully, in both cases, we were at low speeds and able to coast to the shoulder and restart the vehicle. After restart, the vehicle operated normally with no warning lights. This seems to be the exact issue as described in NHTSA Recall 22V-865.
When on the highway during cold weather the steering will lock up and be very difficult to turn. You have to Fight the wheel all the way to one side for it to unlock, or shut the vehicle off then turn it back on
Going over 45 MPH, when hitting any type of bump or even changing lanes causes steering column to shake excessively. Have to come to a complete stop to stop shaking. Got steering stabilizer "fixed" but was told that the problem will continue to occur.
My Jeep has has experienced the death rattle over the last 6 months. Originally it would only happen every month or so when I got over 75 MPH. However in December after I put in an order with my service center for the part to fix it (which took 6+ weeks to arrive), the rattle got so bad that it would happen every time I got on the highway and would sometimes happen under speeds of 50. There was one time that I drove 45 each way to the airport and rattle happened over 10 times.
Jeep develops a severe WOBBLE at speeds above 50MPH. Sometimes at a lower speed if you hit the smallest of bumps. The JEEP shakes BEYOND BELEIF. It shakes so much that you CANNOT see the instruments. In order for it to stop shaking you need to almost stop the car.
The first time the violent shaking of the steering wheel and vehicle was at highway speed. Fortunately I was able to pull over safely. I called to make an appointment with my closest dealer immediately and was made to wait 30 days. That first time my vehicle had 34,000 miles on it, by the time of my appointment they said it was out of warranty for the steering dampener since I was then over 36,000. I paid the diagnostic fees, labor and the replacement part. It has not fixed the issue, it has happened more frequently and more violently. I’ve taken it two non-dealer specialists who have not been able to pin point any problems. Spoke with Jeep customer service and they are requiring it to be diagnosed by a dealer at my cost, again. The last time the shaking happened I had to hit my brakes in the middle of the highway winding up with a tractor trailer narrowly missing me. I’m afraid to drive my $45,000 vehicle and now I have to wait multiple weeks again since my dealer (and called three others) has no available appointments before I can get any help.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 65 MPH, the vehicle started to violently shake after driving over a bump in the roadway. The contact stated that once the vehicle slowed down, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the steering dampener was replaced; however, the failure worsened after the repair. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it remained. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000.
While driving down the highway, my Jeep started to violently jump. I had to completely come to a stop in the middle of the highway before my jeep would stop jumping. I was going about 65 in heavy traffic which was very scary.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 60-70 MPH, the vehicle began to shudder significantly. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that as he temporarily released the accelerator pedal, the failure decreased. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred several times while driving. The contact received recall notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V865000 (Engine) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for recall repair; however, the failure increased significantly after the recall repair. The contact stated that the vehicle would shudder violently while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.
The vehicle has been in repair 4 occasions for shaking and hard vibration over 55 MPH. They have replaced the steering damper and track bar, condition still exists.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving at approximately 50 MPH, the vehicle lost electrical power and stalled. No warning light was illuminated. The contact was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V787000 (Electrical System). The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the software needed to be updated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.
When travelling at highway speeds if the car hits a pothole or other bump the road, the vehicle starts shaking violently. The steering wheel starts shaking, and the vehicle becomes extremely hard to control at highway speeds. I feel that is very unsafe because there is no way to get out of this shaking unless you slow down completely and pull over to the side of the road. I brought the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the steering stabilizer needs to be replaced.
“death wobble” - axle begins shaking at a very fast pace, causing the car to shake in an uncontrollable manner. If you are going over 45 and hit the slightest bump It feels as if we have little to no control over the vehicle when this is happening. I have taken it in many times but the part is on back over.
