NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2021 Jeep Wrangler. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The instrument panel is not working at all, it is totally black. I can not see speed, gas amount, any emergency lights, i can not tell if my lights are on bright or dim, if my turn signal is on or anything. I have already been stranded on the side of a busy highway at night because of this. I have to use my phone to see speed which leads to me being distracted from the road to see how fast i am driving. There has been a recall but for some reason does not include my VIN # even tho it is the same issue of the recall. I don't want to pay for a new instrument panel if that is not the issue. Evidently mopar knows what the issue is because it recalled 30000 vehicles for this issue.
Vehicle was parked inside my garage charging and there was smoke coming out of the back seat where the Hybrid battery is situated.
When driving on highway my car is losing control. This is non-stop every time I hit a bump in the road. The vehicle becomes uncontrollable.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact was notified by his insurance that his vehicle was placed under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V720000 (Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Beginning September 30th I experienced the Death Wobble while driving on the highway. It cause violent shaking of my vehicle. It stopped when i slowed to about 50 MPH, each subsequent day after that it would start shaking when i reached a speed of over 60 MPH. It is currently with the dealer to be repaired. Issues include: steering shock has air, also there is an updated longer shoulder bolt that holds the dampner that should fix the steering wheel shake. They also discovered the shock absorbers leak shock oil. In addition, I have had to replace the auxiliary battery placed 2x since I have bought and it is already draining to low levels, which will prevent the electronic system to work less than 1 year after replacing the battery last. These all are defects to the design and should be recalled as they are safety issues.
My name is [XXX] , I am a citizen of Ukraine, and I currently reside in [XXX] . I am the owner of a 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe (VIN: [XXX] ), purchased at a U.S. insurance auction in August 2024 and imported to Ukraine. In October 2024, Stellantis/Jeep announced Recall 95B due to a risk of high-voltage battery fire. I contacted Stellantis Global Support and their official representative in Ukraine (Peugeot Citroën Ukraine), but they refused to perform the recall repair, citing that the vehicle was imported from another market and was previously repaired in a non-authorized workshop. The vehicle’s front-end damage was cosmetic only and did not affect the battery or high-voltage system. A full diagnostic inspection at ADIS-MOTOR, an official Jeep service in Odesa, Ukraine, confirmed the battery and all safety systems are fully operational. Despite this, Stellantis refused to include my vehicle in Recall 95B, leaving a fire-risk defect unresolved. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this case and ensure Stellantis fulfills its recall obligations for all affected vehicles, including those exported from the U.S. and located abroad. My contact details: [XXX] [XXX] Email [XXX] Phone: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On 9/29/24 with the rear window removed and the top in a closed position while driving highway speeds, the driver side rear window of my vehicle, without warning, flew off and moments later the rear driver side support flew off. The side windows of the vehicle had previously never been removed. It was a shocking experience that left me quite shaken, yet out of control to mitigate. Fortunately, there were no vehicles immediately behind me taking the impact of flying car parts, however, had there been this could have been deadly. The dealership will not be able to fully access the vehicle until 10/16/24. Upon speaking to the service manager they will take a quick look at it today (9/30)
Jeep/Stellantis needs more oversight over their 4XE "Battery Separator" problems. November 22, 2023 (Recall B9A) - Battery Separator Fires September 28, 2024 (Recall 95A/B) - Battery Separator Fires Clearly Stellantis has known about this exact issue for around a year, and likely significantly longer in the lead-up to issuing the original B9A recall. How many cars need to catch fire? How many people should risk injury? How much loss-of use is acceptable for those not able to charge their EVs? Clearly Stellantis is simply struggling to find a way to reduce their liability, by narrowing down the affected vehicles. However after 12-18 months, enough is enough.

NHTSA recall # 24V-720 the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner,
My 2021 Jeep Wrangler suffered a power steering massive leak and gear box is defective. I only had 19,000 miles on it and the steering is very very loose and has always been loose since I purchased it. I have an appointment with Kings Crysler Jeep, Mason Ohio on September 24, 2024. The Head Service Advisor noted I was out of the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty by 2.5 months. He has NEVER heard this happening but now I think I might tow the vehicle to the dealership. No warning lights alerted me.
The tread on all 4 tires wore down faster than it should have, traction in the rain and snow was terrible, tire rotations were done at home, balancing was done at my local shop in town. I had the LT285/70r17 and replaced them as soon as the recall came out. I had the tires replaced at Moffits Ford in Boone, Iowa. They disposed of them there. I would like to know how to go about reimbursement for these tires I spent so much money on.

No additional information was available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 12,980.
When driving above 30 MPH and going over a bump the car shakes and wobbles Violently feeling like the tires and steering wheel will fall off. This has been referred to as the “death wobble.” The car has some warranty remaining and is going in for repair with an authorized Jeep dealer.
Approaching red light and the vehicle came to a sudden stop. Message popped up on dashboard to place into park and start vehicle. Vehicle would not start and could not shift into neutral to move off of road. Message then appeared to plug car in to calibrate battery. Had car towed to my house, plugged car into charging station and message popped up to service charging system. Car will not start.
Started my jeep this morning and the indicator light for my airbag came on saying it needed service.
I have attempted to contact Jeep multiple times. All my communications, except for one, have been ignored. Please, see attached communications. Way too many recalls, including the last one where the vehicle can catch on fire.
Jeep Death Wobble. While driving at 65 mph on the freeway, I drove over a small bump in the road. My vehicle started to shake uncontrollably. The shaking would not stop until I slowed down to under 30 MPH. This is very unsafe to do while driving on a busy CA freeway. The first time this shaking happened my vehicle had about 26,000 miles. Within the next 1000 miles of driving, the wobble has happened approximately 10 more times, one of which the vehicle went off the road into a ditch. I contacted Jeep and they said they would not fix the problem because the 3-yr/36,000 mile warranty expired. I asked if they were ok with having unsafe vehicles on the road and they said "yes". The front suspension is the system that failed. My safety was at risk when the vehicle was shaiking and went off the road. The safety of other drivers was at risk when I had to slow down to under 30 MPH to get my vehicle to stop shaking. The vehicle was taken to a Jeep dealership for inspection/repair but they would not diagnose the problem without me pre-paying a $250 fee. The vehicle was taken to an independent service center and the problem was confirmed. The vehicle was not inspected byt he manufacturer, police, or insurance. There were no warning lights or symptoms before this problem first appeared.
The best way I can describe it is that it has the "Death Wobble". My mechanic is still attempting to get all of the parts that are needed and I just turned 44,000 on my Jeep.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that several warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was able to restart however, the failure recurred. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,986.
All codes began to display, errors delaying to charging port initially then gradually progressed. car would not turn on and would not move had to be towed to dealer ship.
Driving on the expressway and a rock from a vehicle in front of me hit the top right corner of the windshield causing small pieces of glass to scatter on the inside of the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, the vehicle was going up a hill when it suddenly stopped. No warning light illuminated. The contact merged to the right side of the road as the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed as the vehicle started to function again. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired because the dealer stated parts were not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
My clutch was recalled and I brought it in maybe around 10 times after because the service transmission light immediately came up after the recall fix. After bringing it to jeep for a year and engineers giving me the run around. First they said it was the way I was driving the clutch then after a year they said that the recall was to put a new sensor in and that is why the service transmission light is going on. This cannot be correct because they would have said that from the beginning. It is dangerous because you cannot see anything on the screen when the service transmission light comes up. They do not know what is wrong and are making up excuses after it was in the shop off and on for a year. The way I drive the clutch is normal and should never make the service transmission light go on. It never happened before the recall.i have docume to from all the times it went into the shop.
1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The hybrid-electric system, including the high-voltage battery, battery pack control module (BPCM), and associated cooling systems, repeatedly malfunctioned. These failures caused loss of power while driving, electrical odors, and error messages. The vehicle is currently at the dealership for service and is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The vehicle has lost power multiple times while in motion, including on city streets and highways. These unexpected power losses significantly increased the risk of rear-end collisions and limited my ability to safely accelerate or steer in traffic. I have had to take anxiety medication when driving the vehicle due to fear of these events recurring, and I am deeply concerned about the safety of my family, including a newborn passenger. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The issues have been confirmed by an authorized Jeep dealership on multiple occasions. Despite several recall campaigns and attempted repairs, the same power loss and electrical system problems have recurred. Service advisors and technicians acknowledged the problems and attempted component replacements and reprogramming, but the malfunctions persist. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle has been inspected and serviced exclusively by an authorized Jeep/Chrysler dealership (Autonation CDJR in Roseville, CA). There is no indication that FCA/Stellantis corporate has physically inspected the vehicle beyond dealership reports. It has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes. Warning lights and messages su
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that that the vehicle was rusted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the door latches, the trunk and hood latches, and several unknown joints were rusted and needed to be replaced. The dealer declined to repair the vehicle under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
VESSEL CONTINUES TO SHOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT WITH NO OBVIOUS CAUSE - OIL PRESSURE IS WITHIN RANGE AND OIL IS NOT LOW NOR LOW LIFE?
Attempted to pull onto highway and lost propulsion. Dash lights lit up. The vehicle was powered off and upon starting it back up it multiple times it displayed the “service charging system” error. I was ability to limp home with limited propulsion and had the vehicle towed to the dealer on 8/8/2024. Dealer was great to work with and stated that the vehicle needed a new HV battery. The processing time for the part was 10-14 days after approval from Stellantis engineering. 8/29 still no vehicle, but was told that the part would arrive this week. 33k miles 2021 Wrangler Sahara 4xE
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 80 MPH up an incline, the vehicle lost motive power, decelerated, and was unable to accelerate above 30 MPH. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who kept the vehicle for four days but was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V767000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine). The VIN was included but the vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 33,000.
Driving in electric mode around 40mph into a 55mph zone I could not accelerate and the jeep started to slow down. I put the hazards on and pulled over. Shut the jeep down and restarted. Putting hybrid mode and it seemed to work fine.
I plugged in my charger to my Jeep 4xe and I heard a sizzling sound from the wall charger unit and outlet. I immediately disconnected the charger and cut the power to the unit from the breaker box. This was installed in 2021 by a professional electrician. I am grateful I was observant because this would have caused a fire. There was evidence of this starting in the outlet box (black residue). This was. a major near miss safety incident. Hired a professional electrician to repair the charger. The wall charging unit is Jeep branded: HCS-40P Hardwired Electric Vehicle Charging Station, Jeep Branded by Clipper Creek Part number: 0922-00-013 Today there is a note on the MOPAR website: No Longer Stellantis LEV Readiness Compliant Curious...should this unit have been recalled?
My vehicle caught fire while parked in my driveway and burned to the ground resulting in a totaled vehicle, damaged garage, and damaged concrete and driveway
DEATH WOBBLE. Loose, or misaligned mechanical parts shake violently when driving on highway causing the “wobble” in the front end steering and suspension. Exactly the same way the 2018 and 2019 Jeep issue occurred, as noted by NTHSA in 2019.
I would like to express a concern with how Jeep is handing the issue with the hybrid batteries in the Wrangler 4XE. I'm connected with the 4XE across the US and Canada and I am seeing issues with how they are addressing the potential for fires in the batteries. In my case, my Jeep was initially part of the B9A recall but was removed from the list. I was on the 04B recall list and had that update performed. A few months later, my battery triggered the P0BBD code that indicated that I needed a new battery. We have seen this trend in the 4XE community where someone who wasn't on the B9A list ended up having a battery issue. Some of these instances include Jeeps that were on the 04B list but had yet to receive that update because Jeep communicated that it was a "defrost" recall without telling customers that they were receiving the same updates that were included in the B9A. So some people are putting off a very important recall because they believe it is just a defrost recall. After I had my battery replaced, the latest 95B recall was issued. My Jeep is on this recall list even though I just had a new battery installed. It would sure seem like the issue with the separators in the battery would have already been known when my new battery was installed. To me, that is an unsafe mishandling of the situation to put a known faulty battery in during a replacement. I do not feel that Jeep is handing these battery issues well and I believe they need some sort of accountability in place to make sure they are truly resolving the issue and not putting band aids on a major issue. We have tracked some data in the 4XE community and are aware that way more batteries were impacted than Jeep announced would be. As well, many batteries have had to be replaced after the recall. This tell me that either Jeep isn't being very forthcoming with the data or they just don't know the correct method for addressing this matter. We need something done before someone gets hurt or killed.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle briefly hesitated and lost motive power. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed failures with the O2 sensor, knock sensor and diesel particulate system. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.
I was driving to work on 7-25-24 at approximately 65 mph and suddenly my jeep started to shake . It was so violent I just grabbed the wheel so tight , let off the gas and hoped I didn't crash. Cars were swerving around me. I called the dealer and told them the problem. I refused to drive the car and had it towed to the dealer. This is the second time this Death wobbled happened in the last two years. The dealer ended up changing the steering Damper both times. I feel just changing the same parts is not fixing this problem. Now I have a vehicle that I'm deathly afraid of driving. Apparently there is a known problem with this death wobble . I am writing this not just for my self but everyone else that is at risk and don't even know about this. I hope someone really looks into this problem . I am not sure what my rights are and want to get out of my lease . This car is not worth dying for. Thanks in Advance for you help
I was leaving my home on July 25th. Suddenly when turning onto the freeway approach. The car battery light turned on. Then suddenly a Red Turtle came on dropping my speed instantly from 35 to 5 MPH. I was able to barely avoid an accident by throwing the steering wheel to the right moving out of traffic. Had this been about 1000 feet further along, things could have been dangerous. I had the car towed to the dealership.... where they informed me this is the hybrid battery.... an issue that I have had now 4 times with this vehicle and was supposed to be fixed. It has been in the shop for over 2 weeks.
Vehicle just turned off, lost power while driving. A "Check Charging System" message showed up on the dashboard. I was able to restart the vehicle with no further errors.
Hi, I am hereby, reporting that a clutch recall and software update was done on my 2021 wrangler jeep rubicon and the jeep would shut down when pressing the gas pedal and bogs down while driving. The jeep is still at the dealership since June 18 2024 and haven't heard anything from them so far and they won't give me a loaner vehicle. I don't have any other vehicle to drive. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
In Jan 2023 my Jeep experienced the “death wobble” where I hit a bump at speeds above 60mph and the steering started violently shaking. The jeep was less than 2 years old and had less than 20,000 miles; all stock, never lifted and not used for offroad. I took the Jeep to the Gilbert AZ Jeep dealership who determined it was the steering stabilizer and replaced it. This week, in July 2024 the death wobble returned on the freeway going full freeway speed and I struggled to maintain control of the vehicle. I contacted the Jeep dealership and they said I could pay $200 to diagnose and if it was the steering stabilizer again all they could do was put a new one on. If it was anything else they would not cover as the jeep was 5 months out of warranty - but has only 29,000 miles on it. His suggestion was to buy an aftermarket part. He said this part fails frequently. This is unacceptable! Why has this part not been recalled or remade?? This is going to result in a violent accident or death.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V116000 (Power Train) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
While driving the vehicle shut off and displayed a warning to check battery charging system. I had to deploy emergency flashers and coast into a gas station parking lot. After parking and I was able to restart vehicle after a couple attempts and it ran normally. It has not happened since but very concerning as I was in a 50 mph area when vehicle shut off and was luckily able to safely find a pull off area. I stopped by the local dealer to report the issue but they saw no outstanding recalls or service bulletins so nothing was done.
I was just driving home from the park with my family and my Wrangler wouldn't accelerate and the motor would stutter with a complete loss of power. It then gave me the error message on the dash of "e-save mode unavailable" and also "electric mode unavailable". I pulled over, turned it off for a few minutes, then turned it back on to drive home and it repeated the same loss of power and error messages as before. Luckily I was only a mile away from home and it let me drive very slow and limp home. I used my scan tool and found fault code P0A3F which I cannot find any info on google about this code relating to a wrangler 4xe beyond that the recall that I had fixed is still having issues: [XXX] . My VIN is [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- loss of power -lag in gas pedal response - struggles to go up hills - lunges forward at times - its a 2021 and starting to have corrosion issues
While climbing a mountain pass between 2000' and 2500' MSL and passing some vehicles at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost power and multiple warning lights illuminated. These included: Service Electronic Throttle Control, Check Engine Light, Automatic Emergency Brake system failure, Adaptive Cruise Control system failure. After the initial power loss, the engine seemed to partially recover and could be driven below 60 mph until the vehicle was shut down and restarted. There were no signs or warnings of any impending failure. The coolant, engine oil, and transmission temperatures were well below the published limits. The danger was the power loss was sudden, unexpected, and at a critical time when passing large trucks and in the vicinity of heavy traffic with no emergency parking available. This reported event is the fourth time it has occurred. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer to repair it, and the dealers have attempted three times to fix it (all three times dealer fixed something different). All three times they reported the issue had been fixed, yet it has re-occurred after each time. It is currently scheduled for a fourth dealer visit.
