NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2022 Kia EV6. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Bought this car in 2022 and had no problems until 1/2/26. Car was charging at home and suddenly stopped. Got a check electrical system warning light. Took it to the dealer to get checked out and the ICCU needs to be replaced. Despite everything online saying that it is covered on the 10 year/100,000 EV warranty, they are denying that it is covered under warranty. They say it is covered by the basic 60,000 mile warranty which I am a whopping 8,000. There has been multiple recalls on the ICCU, all software because Kia can't be bothered fixing their bad designs. Getting rid of this junk car and never buying a Kia again as I will not trust my life and safety with such a horrible company that doesn't care one bit about it's customers.
Heard fuse pop in back of car immediately went into turtle mode with red check electrical system warning. Dealer diagnosed as bad ICCU which also drained the 12v battery. This recall should be left open for all these ICCUs keep failing and stranding people.
The car stop working with this message "check electric vehicle system" I towed the car to kia service. They told me nee to replace ICCU unit. They replaced it for free, but still didn't have a car for few days. No loaner car offered.
Could not charge car. It kept saying Charging Interrupted. The failure was the ICCU
The ICCU failed after having the safety recall done on it. The car went into warning mode and I luckily had just enough time to pull it into a parking lot to get towed. another few minutes I would have been stuck on a road with no where to pull off. The dealer did replace the ICCU and said that they were familiar with the part blowing randomly on people and that Kia is aware but not making good fixes by putting in the same defective replacement units
Heard a loud pop while driving , and then car immediately showed an electrical failure message and went into turtle mode. Diagnosed by dealer as an ICCU issue
Most vehicles with ABS experience what I call “ABS shudder/jutter” when applying brakes across a road seam where the road surface is uneven or a rut in the road. In this particular case while applying the brakes across a long rut in the road, the “ABS shudder/jutter” was much worse. NOT SPEEDING and having plenty of distance to stop. With brake pedal to the floor several times, the vehicle continued to move forward. The last few feet before colliding with a pickup truck, although the road was completely dry, the vehicle was driving forward yet sliding forward slowly. Felt no different than being on ice. Collision aversion system did nothing to help avoid. There is also only electronic parking brake and not an emergency brake to pull a handle on to assist in stopping. Dealership wasn’t able to find anything simply by driving around and slamming on the brakes and not finding any error codes. Regional technician currently scheduled to be here the 27th of Jan. Several people online have expressed similar concerns, just haven’t hit anything. I feel that the issue lies with the ABS system specifically braking over uneven road seams or ruts in the road and my experience is being discounted.
ICCU failed while driving on freeway. Heard loud pop which dealership determined to be a blown fuse as a result of the ICCU failing. Car decelerated to 30-40 mph and stayed in this limp mode. Light on dash indicated an electrical system issue. Vehicle was towed to dealership and repair was made under warranty.
The ICCU failed and left me stranded in single digit temperatures.
The electrical system failed (dashboard warning light appeared while in park) and then a pop was heard (fuse bursting). Car could not safely drive. Dealer confirmed ICCU failed once checked at dealer. No prior warnings noticed and no issues charging with approved systems leading up to the failure.
The ICCU charge control unit for Kia electric vehicles that immediately depletes the 12v battery & significantly reduces motive power forcing you to pull over with no countdown to how long one has in terms of distance or duration. This uncertainty is absolutely unsafe as you cannot know how long it is safe to keep driving before the vehicle ceases to move. This ICCU failure has been affecting several 2022 onwards Kia vehicles & even replacing this component does not guarantee this failure will not recur & needs serious action & accountability to Kia.
Started car. Heard a pop in the back seat area and then an error message appeared on the dash.
While driving, the car all of a sudden lost power - forcing me to pull over. If this were to happen while on the freeway, a crash would have been imminent. This is a known issue with kia/Hyundai EV's where the ICCU fails and causes the vehicle to lose power suddenly.
ICCU failure. The vehicle would no longer charge via AC and tripped the circuit breaker whenever plugged in. All necessary software updates related to the ICCU issue were completed timely before its failure.
The iccu failed on this car rendering the whole vehicle useless. This part is currently a recall and I was using a new ICCU with the software update per their recall solution. My second ICCU failed at approximately 40k miles.
Upon connecting a level 2 charger, I heard a loud POP, then the dashboard said charging failed, check Electrical system. From then on, the car would not be able to charge on level 2. The dealership determined that it was an ICCU failure, which is very well documented and experienced by owners in online forums. In my situation, no one was put at risk, however many owners have reported it happening while they were traveling at highway speeds. When this happens at highway speeds, it causes the car to slow down immediately, which is extremely dangerous. The part number of the ICCU is the same as the original, which means it's still the same part that could fail at any time. My car has been updated to the latest recall software to motivate the ICCU failures but it still happened to me. Please put pressure on Hyundai and Kia to fix this issue and recall all ioniq 5s and ev6 models
I had an ICCU failure. There were no warning lights . The dealership initially could not find the problem but when I brought it back again they did confirm the ICCU failed and replaced it. Failure of this causes the car to stop driving and lose power causing you to stop on the road as well as be unable to charge the car.
The ICCU failed in my car while attempting to charge the vehicle while at home in my garage. This component has a known history of failure while driving and now that it has been replaced with an identical unit, I fear for my safety while driving since I live in a remote area and rely on the car for transportation in sub-freezing temps and winter conditions. While the dealer has replaced the ICCU, there is no acknowledgement from the manufacturer that the failure mode of this component has undergone any redesign or improvement to warrant trust that it will not happen again. It is a ticking bomb.
Not charging on Level 1, Level 2 chargers, only level 3. ICCU problem confirmed by dealer diagnostic even after recall software update was installed.
MY DRIVERSIDE FRONT DOOR WON'T OPEN, WHEN DOOR IS UNLOCKED, BOTH OUTSIDE AND INSIDE HANDLE WONT'T OPEN THE DOOR. YOU HAVE TO CLICK ON THE UNLOCK/LOCK BUTTON 15-20 TIMES TO GET THE DOOR OPEN. ALL THE OTHER 3 DOORS WORKS FINE.
Iccu failure
After owning this car for about 3 years now I had the ICCU blow out on me at 53k miles right before thanksgiving. This prevented my car from Level 1 / Level 2 charging and would no longer keep the 12v battery charged. this made the car drive at limited speed as the 12v would drain. I had previously taken the car to get the ICCU recall early in the year and obviously that "software fix" did prevent this from happening. How am I supposed to reliably drive this car unless KIA/Hyundai actually redesigns the ICCU? This is something that needs a permanent fix or at the least a lifetime warranty coverage.
ICCU issue. Car showed zero percent battery after charging all night. No warning lights no errors
The ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) failed while the vehicle was charging at my home. It tripped the 60A circuit breaker for my EVSE circuit and now my EVSE is inoperable. The vehicle no longer charges via AC (Level 1 or Level 2) at any charging station. Attempting to charge the vehicle triggers a safety fault error on the EVSE indicating an electrical problem with the vehicle. Additionally, attempting to use the V2L (Vehicle to Load) adapter on the vehicle causes audible arcing sounds from the ICCU accompanied by a "Check Electrical System" message on the vehicle's display. These symptoms indicate a complete failure of the OBC (On-Board Charger) circuit inside of the ICCU. The arcing is most likely coming from a failed MOSFET. The ICCU has been recalled twice in this model, however it is clear that the software update "remedies" are not satisfactory. I had the most recent recall campaign SC327 completed during the month it was released in November 2024, yet it still failed only a year later. Reports of ICCU failures are constantly being posted online from "remedied" Kia EV6 vehicles. Software cannot fix a hardware design fault. The part should be redesigned to correct the cause of the defects and, if Kia doesn't want to replace every ICCU with new hardware, the warranty on the ICCU should be extended to unlimited miles and 15 years.
In November 2024, my 2022 Kia EV6 became suddenly non-drivable due to electrical failure consistent with a repeat ICCU/12-volt system malfunction. The vehicle would not start or maintain normal electrical power and became stuck in accessory mode, creating a loss of propulsion and complete loss of transportation. This vehicle previously experienced an ICCU failure earlier in 2024 that required dealership repair and battery replacement. After that repair, the vehicle again developed electrical failure symptoms, including loss of 12-volt power and inability to operate. Due to the unsafe non-drivable condition, Kia Roadside Assistance directed and arranged a tow to a Kia dealership. Upon arrival at the dealership, new undercarriage and wheel-well damage was documented within approximately 90 minutes of drop-off. This damage was not present prior to towing and is located where tow equipment attaches. The vehicle remains in the possession of the dealership and is available for full inspection. The electrical failure created a safety risk because the vehicle became immobilized without warning and could not be safely operated. There was no advance notice or driver-caused event. The failure resulted in complete loss of vehicle function. The vehicle has been inspected by a Kia dealership, and I have been working through Kia corporate and roadside providers since the incident. The vehicle remains out of service with unresolved electrical issues and unresolved damage resulting from the manufacturer-directed tow.

The contact owns a 2022 Kia EV6. The contact stated that the electric vehicle battery failed to charge during level one or level two charging. The vehicle was driven to the local dealer, who diagnosed that the Integrated Charging Control Unit had malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V867000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 81,300.
My 2022 Kia EV6 developed a serious electrical/MCU malfunction on 10/19/2025 at approximately 64,300 miles. While driving, the vehicle began to stutter during acceleration, all driver-assistance and safety systems disabled (LKAS, collision avoidance, lane keeping), and the vehicle could not accelerate normally (topping out around ~60 mph when fully pressing the pedal). The Kia Connect app displayed fault codes MCU P0A4100 and LKAS C164286. The malfunction recurred immediately after a dealer visit on 10/20/2025. The vehicle has since been inspected by Huffines Kia in Corinth, Texas, but no confirmed diagnosis has been provided, nor have they notified me of dropping/reconnecting the HV battery. On 11/18/2025, a new fault code appeared: MCU P0C1700. This failure affects the high-voltage electronics/MCU and causes sudden loss of acceleration capability and complete disabling of active safety systems while the vehicle is in motion, placing me and other drivers at risk. The issue is reproducible, continues to occur, and the vehicle remains at the dealership. I am requesting NHTSA review of this electrical/MCU malfunction as a safety-related defect.
The air bag (SRS) floor wire harness running directly under the moving front driver and passenger seats are assembled with no shielding or protection. So they are subject to being severed or damaged, and the wires are at risk of corrosion if exposed to moisture or road salt. This is clearly a preventable safety issue. However, Kia and Hyundai are not providing warranty coverage. And replacement of a damaged harness is ~$9,300+ because the harness apparently routs behind the dashboard and to the engine compartment.
Electric car stopped working with home, (level 2 or AC charging), only level three or DC fast chargers. Took car to local dealership who confirmed the cars ICCU had gone bad, which is a known issue with this vehicle, and needed to be replaced. Since I had all the software recalls done to mitigate this matter Kia replaced it under warranty. There were no indication that anything was wrong with the vehicle until the first unsuccessful charging attempt at home.
The ICCU went out in my car. Fortunately I was at home charging and not on the road.
Prior to midnight on 9/25/2025 I stopped at a Sheetz in Stephen"s City , Va to charge my 2022 Kia EV6. Upon pulling into the charging area I discovered construction fencing around the area with the chargers removed. I then drove to the other side of the store and parked next to the building to take advantage of the lighting as I scanned my phone app for alternative chargers in the area. SUDDENLY, within the blink of an eye, my car lunged forward at MAXIMUM speed. It came to a sudden stop , prior to hitting the glass and brick wall of the building. I was stunned. My first reaction was to try to go into reverse to back away from the building and then I noticed people coming toward me. I rolled the window down and heard them ask if I was ok , if I needed help calling 911, and then they began to insist that I climb down out of the car as they feared it would catch on fire. I did not understand what they meant initially, until I realized I was LOOKING DOWN at them. With assistance, I got out of my car and realized it was impaled upon the metal barrier post located in the middle , front of the parking space. The local sheriff dept responded and after putting me through all the DUI tests/exercises realized that I , indeed , was sober and not responsible for the incident. The deputy called Clem's Garage/Towing who arrived 30-45 min latter with a standard tow truck - I tried to explain that tugging at my car from the rear would not release it from the pole ( the rear of the car pointed toward the pavement while the front pointed toward the sky) and that continuing to tug would only do more damage (I wanted to prevent my car further damage). He eventually called another company who arrived with a large crane-like vehicle that lifted my car off the pole. The top portion of the pole was missing and apparently stuck in my car . My car was then towed to Clem's holding yard.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia EV6 equipped with Kumho Tires, Tire Line: Crugen, Tire Size: 235/55/R19, DOT Number [XXX] . The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle started vibrating abnormally. The vehicle was driven to the dealer and the technician at the dealer stated that the inner lining of the tires had separated on the driver’s side front and rear passenger’s side tires. The tires were the original equipment. The contact stated that the tires were replaced. The contact was unable to reach the manufacturer for assistance. The failure mileage was 12,000. ICCU fail at 58,000 miles. + the front fuse under the front seat. Rendered the car immobile and drained the 12 volt battery. Dealer replaced the iccu and fuse but refused to replace 12 volt, saying that it is covered up to 36k miles. They said ir can just be recharged. But since there repair took a long time, the battery was sitting fully discharged all this time. After that sitting period it would not charge back. So the fault resulted in a week of covered repairs and an extra 12 volt battery cost on an ev, not covered by the dealer.
ICCU failed while charging using Level 2 charger. Dealer still has my vehicle and issue was diagnosed.
The 12-volt battery has failed twice and was ultimately replaced. Additionally, the ICCU unit was replaced once. The vehicle has now returned to the shop for the same recurring issue, as the 12-volt battery either fails to hold a charge or is not charging properly. Most concerning, the vehicle stalled while in motion, creating a serious safety hazard, as it was not possible to activate the hazard lights, leaving occupants in a potentially dangerous situation.
The instrument cluster screen went black for no reason. Cannot see speed, turn signals do not work, do not know about any instrument issues, and blind spot camera doesn't work.
The AC charging for this car stopped working around [XXX]. After 3 trips to the dealership for repair I brought it back a 4th time and because the dealership was unable to repair it they gave me a loaner to use while they tried to figure out the problem. During this time they removed the entire battery from the car, dropped the suspension, experienced the car not being able to go into gear (reverse or drive), not hold a charge etc. The car has been 100% inoperable since [XXX]. Today, 01/27/26 the dealership phoned to let me know that a regional Kia technician came by and realized there was just one screw that needed to be tightened and now the car works perfectly and I can come pick up my car and bring the loaner back. There is no way I would ever feel safe driving that car again. Kia America offered me a buy back with the condition that I pay them $9,350 in depreciation. Got error message "Check Electrical vehicle system" when I was driving on 06/03/2025. After driving few miles, then get other error message on dash - "Stop Vehicle and check power supply". After restarted the car, drove few miles and got the error message again. Luckily I got back home with my kids safely. When the tow truck came to take my car to dealership next morning 06/04/2025, the car started, but it died on the middle of the road when trying to drive up the tow truck. The tow truck had to drag my car up instead. If the car suddenly died in middle of highway on 6/3, it would be different story. After almost a week in the Kia shop, It was ICCU assembly and fuse issue on Kia Ev6 and they had to replace it on 06/07/2025 and the car was fixed and picked up on Monday 6/9/2025
Attempts to charge with home level 2 charger were unsuccessful, both at home and at a public charger. Reduced the charging speed using the car’s settings without success. Dealer reports a failure of the ICCU requiring replacement. This is apparently the subject of a class action lawsuit.
Car stopped functioning while driving, stopped completely in the middle of the road, a warning "Check electric vehicle system" showed up on screen.
ICCU FAILED. Warning that I needed to stop driving the car This happened while driving on an interstate highway. Car would move at 25mph max.
While driving a warning about battery and electrical sysytem failure. Vehicle would not drive more thsn 10mph. I was able to limp home about 1 mile away where the car died. Could not restart with a jumper battery.
My 2022 Kia EV6 has repeatedly shut off while parked and while in motion, placing myself, my [XXX] child, and other drivers at serious risk. The vehicle’s Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failed and was replaced, but the replacement ICCU also malfunctioned. This second failure caused a near-collision involving three vehicles. A Ford F-150 had to swerve off the road to avoid hitting me. The most recent incident occurred while dropping off my son, when the vehicle lost all power in traffic. Kia later confirmed that they could not guarantee this issue would not happen again. This statement came after I notified them of the near-accident and the ongoing shutdowns. Despite this, Kia has refused to buy back the vehicle or provide a safe resolution. The vehicle has been out of service for over 30 cumulative days and has undergone two ICCU replacements and one 12V battery replacement. Kia issued a recall notice for the ICCU in December 2024, but the issue persisted even after recall servicing. The defect has been inspected and confirmed by Kia dealerships, and all repair documentation is available. There were no warning lights or alerts before shutdowns. The system fails randomly and without warning, making the car unpredictable and unsafe to operate. This is an ongoing, unresolved issue that poses a danger to myself, my child, and the general public. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Have had 2 ICCU failures since I purchased the car in 2023.
I am reporting a failure of the ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) in my 2022 Kia EV6. The vehicle became inoperable within weeks of purchase and has remained at a Kia dealership for over six weeks. The failure caused the vehicle to suddenly lose power and become undriveable, which is a serious safety concern. This issue appears to be widespread among EV6 owners. Despite the issue being covered under warranty, Kia has not provided an acceptable resolution. I believe this failure presents a risk of sudden vehicle disablement and should be investigated for safety-related recall potential.
Once again, the ICCU on the car failed requiring intervention / towing. This is the second outage of the ICCU. This issue happened in early April 2025 (April 8th I believe). My car was parked at work. I entered my car after work and turned on the car. I heard a pop from the rear passenger side identical to the issue as it had happened last January (2024). Shortly thereafter, the check electrical system warning came on. I briefly attempted to drive car to move it to where would likely be an easier spot for the purposes of towing (one parking lot over that is not gated). During that brief drive (roughly 1/4 of a mile), the car immediately began issuing warnings requesting that I pull over and stop. I entered the nearby parking lot and parked the car where it was towed the next day to the dealership.
After charging vehicle using L2 charger, (max 7kw) vehicle threw two error messages on screen. 1) “check electrical system” & 2) “stop vehicle and check power supply” Using an OBDII reader, the car provided error code P1A9096. I also noticed the car stopped charging the 12V battery as the 12V state of charge was down to 22%. I towed it to the dealer and they are currently working on diagnosing the issue.
Regarding NHTSA Recall No. \/ MFR Recall No. : 24V-867 \/ SC327, I have contacted Kia America by email who is avoiding to take action in rectifying the SC327 defect. From March 11th to March 15th 2025 I have emailed Kia several times to address the issue of my Kia EV6 car, the lack of response from their side compels me to lodge a complaint with you. Please intervene in my case with Kia. Below is the latest correspondence from Kia.
The ICCU failed causing the vehicle to shut down in the middle of the road with no warning at all. Shutting down in the middle of the road with no warning is a major safety issue. Kia is aware of this fault with the EV6 and all other EGMP platform vehicles, and has made no effort to fix the issue. They just replace the faulty ICCU with another faulty ICCU and hope it doesn't fail before the warranty runs out. They are putting lives at risk, and all EGMP vehicles are unfit for purpose. Kia has the vehicle, has confirmed they will "repair" it under warranty. There is no timeframe for the "repair" and the repair doesn't fix the issue, it just puts the vehicle back on the road in the same unsafe condition in which it is likely to shut down in the middle of the road again.
