II HAVE PAINT PEELING AND FALLING OFF AT A RAPID RATE AND THE CAR ONLY HAS 77000 MILES IT IS GARAGE KEPT AND DETAILED TWICE A YEAR I FEEL IT NEED ATTENTION FROM KIA AS THIS IS NOT NORMAL THEY WILL NOT COVER IT AND IT APPEARS THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR THIS YEAR KIA
EVEN THOUGH KIA SUGGESTS OIL CHANGE INTERVALS OF 7500 I'VE BEEN GETTING MINE CHANGED EVERY 3000 MILES. I STILL HAD 100 MILES TO GO AND I NOTICED MY CAR WAS RUNNING A LITTLE ROUGH AND THEIR WAS A CHANGE IN ITS PERFORMANCE. I CHECKED MY ENGINE OIL AS A PRECAUTION AND THE DIP STICK BARELY SHOWED ANY OIL ON THE TIP. THIS PROBLEM STARTED AFTER I TOOK MY KIA IN FOR A RECALL, THEY UPDATED SOME SORT OF SOFTWARE AND A SOME HOSE THAT WAS RECALLED FOR DETERIORATION. THERE ARE NO LEAKS, NEVER HAD ANY AND NOW MY CAR IS BURNING 4 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGE INTERVALS OF JUS 3000. I'VE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ON FORUMS BY OWNERS WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. .
I WAS RIDING DOWN THE ROAD CAR JUST STOPPED AFTER STOPPED TRY TO CRANK AGAIN WOULDN'T CRANK WHEN IT DID CRANK IT HAD NO POWER SPUTTERED
TURNER KIA DIAGNOSIS MY VEHICLE OF OVERHEATING CONDITION REVEALED COMBUSTION GASSES GETTING INTO COOLANT. INTERNAL ISSUE ALLOWING COMBUSTION PRESSURE TO GET INTO COOLING SYSTEM WHICH IS HAMPERING COOLING EFFICIENCY AS WELL AS CAUSING AREACTION OFF COOLANT. WHEN I DROVE THE CAR HALF WAY ON THE HIGHWAY IT STARTED TO SMOKE AFTER I JUST GOT IT BACK FROM TURNER KIA AFTER FIXING WHAT THEY SAID WAS THE PROBLEM AFTER THAT I TOOK IT BACK TO TURNER KIA AND THEY DIAGNOSIS IT AS NEEDING A NEW ENGINE.
I was driving my 2013 Kia Optima on the highway when all of a sudden the car stalled. I was nearly hit by a semi truck and several cars. I was finally able to coast to the shoulder of the road. I tried starting it and it would not. I had it towed to my mechanic and he diagnosed it as a ‘seized engine’, for no reason. I take good care of my car I change the oil every 3000 miles. Currently, I am trying to get it fixed through KIA, but they are giving me a hard time.
Paint delaminating and chipping, started on the front driver and passenger pillar. Also spots on the front hood near the bumper.
STEERING WHEEL CLICKS CONSTANTLY WHEN TURNING ANY DIRECTION.
I was driving my 2013 Kia Optima when all of a sudden, the car stalled while on a highway. Luckily I was able to pull to the side, narrowly missing a tractor-trailer. After it wouldn’t start, I had it towed to my mechanic. He then diagnosed it as a seized engine. I had it towed to my local Kia dealer, and it’s been sitting there for 4 months, and i was told it can take another 6 MORE MONTHS to get the engine replaced, AND they ‘may not cover the cost’. They are giving me the run-around. This is ridiculous. There’s even a recall on the engine. What should I do? Thank you D.H.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 KIA OPTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL NOSIE WHEN STARTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY WAS IN HER HAND AND THE CAR WAS OFF BUT STILL WAS HEARING THE NOISE. WHEN SHE OPENED THE HOOD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND WALK AWAY WITH THE KEYS IN HER HAND, THERE WAS A LOUD POP AND SMOKE STARTED TO COME FROM THE ENGINE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT IT LOOKED LIKE THE ABS BRAKE MODULE CAUGHT FIRE AND THEY EXTINGUISHED THE SMOKE. A POLICE AND FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SERRA KIA (12304 30 MILE RD, WASHINGTON, MI 48095) AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS BRAKE MODULE AND HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED YET DUE TO PART NEEDED TO BE ORDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER AN INVESTIGATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR AT AN AVERAGE SPEED, THE CAR SUDDENLY STARTED TO JERK AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, THEN NEXT THING I KNOW I HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE ENGINE.

THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V224000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,191. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
MY CAR IS GETTING A P2562 CODE WHICH IS FOR THE TURBOCHARGER BOOST CONTROL POSITION SENSOR. I'M HAVING A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN ENGINE POWER AND FUEL ECONOMY.

WHEN ISTART MY VEHICLE, SOMETIMES THE RADIO DOES NOT COME ON, SO I HAVE TO PULL THE FUSE AND PLACE IT BACK IN. ALSO, I CANNOT EXCEL PAST 40MPH, OTHERWISE IT STALLS. THE DEALERSHIP STATED I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. I WAS STRANDED IN WYOMING, SO I HAD TO LEASE A NEW KIA. I STILL OWE ON MY 2013 OPTIMA, WHICH IS NOT DRIVABLE. I DID NOT WANT A NEW VEHICLE. I'M VERY FRUSTRATED.

MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE, MOVE UP AND DOWN, MAKE CLICKING AND KNOCKING NOISES AS I AM DRIVING. WHEN I HIT A SPEED BUMP THE NOISES GET WORSE IN MY STEERING WHEEL AND THE SHAKING AND MOVING GETS WORSE. TOOK MY CAR TO KIA DEALERSHIP THEY FIXED IT & I PAID AROUND $80. NOW I FOUND THERE'S A RECALL ON THE CUFFLINKS IN THE STEERING WHEEL. KIA KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND DIDN'T NOTIFY ME & CHARGED ME TO FIX IT. THE ONLY REASON I FOUND OUT ABOUT IT WAS MY CAR WOULDN'T START AND I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO KIA & ASKED ABOUT OTHER RECALLS. I HAD MY ENGINE REPLACED DUE TO RECALL & I HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. BUT KIA DOESN'T WANT TO REPLACE MY STARTER. SOUND FAMILIAR? KIA DID THE SAME THING TO ME WITH MY STEERING WHEEL, THEY MADE ME PAY TO FIX THE STEERING WHEEL AND NOW SAY I CAN GET REIMBURSED AND THERE'S A RECALL. NOW THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR THE STARTER BUT MY ENGINE HAD A RECALL WHICH REPLACED THE STARTER AND BATTERY. KIA REPLACED 5 OUT 7 BATTERIES WHEN THEY REPLACED THE RECALLED ENGINES. I WILL TRY TO GET REIMBURSED FROM KIA FOR THE STEERING WHEEL REPAIRS NOW THAT I FOUND OUT THERE'S A RECALL ON THE SHAKING STEERING WHEEL. BUT I COULDN'T FIND THE RECALL ONLINE ANYWHERE? I BOUGHT MY KIA IN 2019 AND I'VE HAD PROBLEMS EVER SINCE I BOUGHT IT! KIA WANTS ME TO PAY FOR IT OUT OF POCKET AND THEN THEY TELL ME IT'S A RECALL LATER ON SO I CAN GET REIMBURSED!
CAR TURN OFF IN THE FREEWAY WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON
HAD OIL CHANGED AND DROVE ABOUT 500 FEET FROM DEALERSHIP WHEN CAR SHUT DOWN IN MIDDLE OF STREET. TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY AND ABOUT TO RUN OVER ME. CARS SLIDING ON BRAKES TO AVOID MY STALLED CAR IN THE STREET. TRIED TO TURN INTO PARKING LOT TO GET OFF STREET BUT IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD TOP STEER. HAD TO SIT THERE IN 100 DEGREE HEAT. FINALLY HAD TO GET OUT OF CAR WHEN IT WAS SAFE AND RUN ACROSS STREET .CALLED STAFF MEMBER FROM DEALERSHIP TO COME AND HELP ME. HE ASSISTED ME IN GETTING CAR BACK INTO PARKING LOT AND SAID ABS HYDRAULIC UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. QUOTED ME $2341.84 TO REPAIR. I AGREED AND THEY FIXED IT ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM AFTER ALL. NOW I AM TOLD I NEED HORNESS WIRING IS BURNED OUT! ANOTHER $2000.00 FOR WIRING. THIS NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED ASAP. IT'S NO WAY WITH ONLY 54000 MILES, THIS SHOULD BE HAPPENING. I NEED SOMEONE TO CONTACT ME OR KIA IN BATON ROUGE, LA LOCATED ON SEIGEN LANE. I HAVE THE PRINT OUT BUT I CANNOT UPLOAD IT. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE KIA DEALERSHIP FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW. I DON'T THINK THEY CAN FIX IT BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT SURE EXACTLY WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. THE STEERING HAS PLAY IN IT. IT CLICKS. WHEN DRIVING, THE TINIEST BUMP CAUSES A CLANKING, RATTLE THROUGHOUT THE STEERING COLUMN, AND STEERING WHEEL. CAUSES LOSS OF CONTROL AT TIMES. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE ODOR OF FUEL WAS PRESENT INSIDE THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE BEFORE SUDDENLY SMOKE AND FLAMES WERE SCENE COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. DURING THE INCIDENT, THE OWNER SUSTAINED AN INJURED RIGHT FINGER WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE HOOD. NO MEDICAL TREATMENT WAS REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AWAY AS IT WAS DESTROYED BY THE FIRE. THE LOCAL DEALER ALM KIA SOUTH (4310 JONESBORO RD. UNION CITY, GA) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AS WELLS THE MANUFACTURER WERE A CASE WAS OPENED. THE CONTACT STATED HE HAD RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V100000 (FUEL SYSTEM. GASOLINE), HOWEVER, WHEN HE CONTACT THE DEALER HE WAS UNABLE TO SCHEDULE A RECALL REPAIR APPOINTMENT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE TURNPIKE THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. PRIOR TO SHUTTING OFF, THE BATTERY, OIL AND TRANSMISSION ICON APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO MERGE OVER INTO THE SIDE LANE SAFELY BECAUSE THE BREAKS ALONG WITH THE STEERING SUDDENLY BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. AFTER PLACING THE CAR INTO PARK AND REMOVING THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION, I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT. IT STARTED, SO I CONTINUED HEADING HOME. APPROXIMATELY DRIVING ANOTHER 12 MILES, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE THIS TIME WAS UPON RESTARTING IT, A WEIRD KNOCKING NOISE CAME FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD, SO I SHUT THE CAR OFF. I WAITED ABOUT 5 MINUTES TO RESTART IT AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP, SO I CONTINUED HEADING HOME. TODAY, ONCE AGAIN WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR SHUT OFF. SAME KNOCKING, AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS. AFTER WAITING ABOUT 5 MINUTES, I RESTARTED IT, ONLY TO CONTINUOUSLY HEAR A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE AND A VIBRATION COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WHILE ACCELERATING, IT BARELY MOVED AND THE NOISES BECAME LOUDER ALONG WITH THE VIBRATION.THIS TIME THE CAR WAS INCAPABLE OF BEING DRIVEN. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED DIRECTLY TO A KIA DEALERSHIP. GOOD THING MY CAR WAS STILL COVERED WITH EASY CARE OR ELSE I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN TO GET IT TOWED. I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW I AM GOING TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD WHATEVER NEEDS REPAIRED. I DID RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE AND WILL ATTACH IT BELOW. *TR
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND SUDDENLY AS I WAS COASTING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION THE CAR STALLED I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOPPED THEN ATTEMPTED TO START IT AND NOTHING HAPPENED WOULDN'T TURN OVER ALL LIGHT ON DASH WERE ON ,IT NEVER STARTED AFTER THAT THE MECHANIC SAID THE ENGINE SEIZED THEN THE STARTER WENT BAD NOW NEED A NEW ENGINE AND STARTER .KIA IS REFUSING TO HONOR THE ENGINE RECALL BECAUSE OF A SALVAGE TITLE. *TR
THIS IS MY SECOND COMPLAINT, IT BEEN OVER 6 WEEKS SINCE MY KIA BROKE DOWN BECAUSE OF A RECALL. KIA IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AND WAS MAKING AN ABNORMAL KNOCKING NOISE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE ALSO NOTICED OIL LEAKING IN THE REAR OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CONTACT CONTACTED GUNTHER KIA (1900 S STATE RD 7, FORT LAUDERDALE, FL 33317 (954) 800-2125) AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
SNOW WHITE PEARL PAINT RAPIDLY CHIPPING OFF OF MY 2013 KIA OPTIMA, NO ACCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED TO MAKE THIS PAINT PROBLEM OCCUR. I'M NOT QUITE SURE WHY THE PAINT IS CHIPPING OFF SO EASILY. A LOT OF THE PAINT IS CHIPPING AROUND THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND HOOD OF THE CAR.
THE GEARBOX YOKE PLUG DETACHES WHENEVER YOU DRIVE AND HIT A BUMP OR POTHOLE CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO MAKE A NOISE. THE NOISE WORSENS AS YOU DRIVE NO MATTER IF YOU'RE TURNING A CORNER BUT ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING OVER ANY TYPE OF ROUGH OR BUMPY ROAD CONDITION. YOU CAN HEAR THE NOISE IN THE STEERING EVEN WHEN YOU'RE STATIONARY AND ARE TURNING THE WHEEL. THERE APPARENTLY IS A RECALL ON THIS SAME COMPONENT FOR EARLIER KIA OPTIMA'S YEARS AND BEYOND, BUT NOT ON THE 2013. *TR
ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO MY 2013 KIA OPTIMA STARTED SMOKING REALLY BAD. CONTACTED KIA THROUGH THERE WEB SITE TO FILE A CLAIM FOR A RECALL ON THE LONG ENGINE BLOCK THAT CAUSES PISTON RINGS TO FAIL. I CONTACTED KIA TWICE THROUGH THERE WEB SITE. WITH NO RESPONSE. I THEN CALLED A DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE COST FOR TOWING MY VEHICLE TO THEM FOR REPAIR. I THEN CALLED KIA AND THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE COST. MY VEHICLE IS NOT OPERATIONAL BECAUSE OF MANUFACTURING MISTAKE. I AM UNDER THE UNDERSTANDING THAT KIA IS TO COVER ALL COST TO FIX ANY RECALLS, BUT THEY ARE TELLING ME I HAVE TO COVER PART OF THE COST. THE CLOSETS KIA DEALER IS 140 MOLES AWAY THEY CLOSED THE ONE THAT I BOUGHT MY KIA FROM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT'S GIRLFRIEND OWNS A 2013 KIA OPTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE HIS GIRLFRIEND WAS DRIVING 25 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED TO THE LEFT INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE DRIVER CONTINUED DRIVING TO HER DESTINATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO METRO KIA OF MADISON (5442 WAYNE TERRACE, MADISON, WI 53718, (608) 443-5700) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE ECU SOFTWARE UPDATED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS OF YET. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED IN JULY OF 2020. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 132,000.
The stock paint on the car is chipping and peeling away without any damage being done to the paint. Specific locations are the A pillars next to the windshield. The quality of the paint and clear coat comes into question, as this is also happening on my mother's white painted Kia, and this is a common issue amongst most Kias painted in any variation of white from the manufacturer.
My paint is pealing in a number of locations on my car. Trunk, hood rails and hood. Car has been very we’ll maintained. I am aware of many others having this same issue.
I HAVE A 2013 KIA OPTIMA WITH PEARL WHITE PAINT. CONSISTENT WITH WIDESPREAD REPORTS OF RAPID PAINT PEELING AND DELAMINATION OF THIS PARTICULAR PAINT COLOR, I TOO AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME. ALSO CONSISTENT WITH WIDESPREAD REPORTING, THE PRIMARY AREAS ARE ALONG THE PILLARS AROUND THE WINDSHIELD (LONG VERTICAL STRIPS PEELED DOWN TO THE PRIMER), AND BUBBLING AND PEELING ON THE ENGINE HOOD, THE FRONT GRILL AND THE FRONT BUMPER. I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 62,900 MILES ON THE CAR AND IT IS TYPICALLY GARAGED. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THIS WILL CONTINUE TO WORSEN, AND THAT THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WILL NEED TO BE REPAINTED. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THIS IS A DEFECT, AS REPORTED BY OTHERS, WE ARE ALL EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES IN THE SAME MANNER AND LOCATIONS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE THEN HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON SO WE GOT THAT TESTED AT AN AUTOMOTIVE STORE WITH AN ERROR CODE OF " P0087 FUEL RAIL/SYSTEM PRESSURE- TOO LOW" I SEE MULTIPLE ARTICLES DISCUSSING RECALLS FOR THIS YEAR AND MODEL, HOWEVER WHEN WE CALLED KIA THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR OUR SPECIFIC VEHICLE FOR THIS ISSUE. WE ARE NOW GOING TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AND PAY OUT OF POCKET.. I FEEL THIS IS UNSAFE, AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AS THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE HAVING GASOLINE LEAK OUT. ON MAY 21, 2020, I'D TAKEN MY 2013 KIA OPTIMA EX FOR A SIMPLE OIL CHANGE AT HAWKINSON KIA, MATTESON, IL. THE SERVICE DEPT. TECH CONDUCTED ADD'L INSPECTIONS, AS THEY USUALLY PERFORM, MADE RECOMMENDATIONS, INCLUDING SERPENTINE BELT REPLACEMENT. I'D AGREED TO BELT REPLACEMENT. MY CAMERA DISPLAY WAS WORKING PRIOR TO THIS VISIT. NO REPORT OF ANY CAMERA PROBLEM WAS INDICATED ON THE INSPECTION OR RECOMMENDATION REPORTS OR RECEIPT. AFTERWARDS, MY CAMERA DISPLAY CEASED OPERATION, ONLY DISPLAYING A BLACK BACKGROUND WITH GUIDELINES. SEVERAL TIMES AFTERWARDS, I'D CONTACTED THE SERVICE DEPT. TO COMPLAIN OF THE ISSUE. THEY'D SUGGESTED BRINGING VEHICLE BACK FOR DIAGNOSTIC, WHICH I COMPLIED AND PAID ITS FEE ON JUNE 8, 2020. DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT. THEN SAID IT WASN'T AN ISSUE THEY'D CREATED/WASN'T CAUSED BY INSTALLATION OF BELT AND THAT IT RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF HEAD UNIT [RADIO SYSTEM] AND CAMERA AT A COST OF APPROX. $511. I'D COMPLAINED SEVERAL TIMES TO KIA'S CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT DID NOT RECEIVE ANY CONSIDERATION NOR RESOLUTION: ONLY TO BE TOLD MY VEHICLE'S WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT. HAD SEVERAL OPPORTUNITIES TO VISUALLY NOTICE ANY CAMERA DEFECT AS IT'S TECH(S) OPERATED MY VEHICLE BY DRIVING IN AND OUT OF ITS SERVICE GARAGE AS THE CAMERA DISPLAY IS ACTIVATED WHEN VEHICLE IS IN REVERSE. ON MAY 10, 2020 @7:32 AM I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND CAME TO A STOP LIGHT WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN MY CAR STALLED AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD TURNED ON. I SHUT IT OFF AND THEN WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART IT BLACK SMOKE WITH AN ELECTRICAL TYPE SMELL CAME FROM UNDER THE HOOD. KIA DEALERSHIP SAID MOTOR WAS SEIZED AND REPLACED IT UNDER A RECALL. THEN THEY SAID IT NEEDED FUEL PUMP AND BATTERY (WHICH BATTERY WAS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD), SO I HAD BOTH REPLACED. I DROVE FOR 2 DAYS AND HAD TROUBLE STARTING THE CAR SO I TOOK BACK TO DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID IT NEEDED A STARTER AND AN ELECTRICAL ASSESSMENT FOR A SHORT, AS STARTER BEGAN SMOKING WITH THE VEHICLE NOT EVEN RUNNING. NOW THEY ARE SAYING IT NEEDS A NEW JUNCTION BOX/FUSE BOX OVER $2900 AND MAY HAVE BEEN RELATED TO OTHER PROBLEMS BUT NOT COVERED AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY. I HAVE ALREADY PAID $900+ DOLLARS FOR FUEL PUMP, I EXCHANGED THE BATTERY WHERE I ORIGINALLY BOUGHT IT, AND $493 FOR STARTER. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THE JUNCTION BOX WOULD RANDOMLY FAIL OR SHORT AND NEED REPLACEMENT, UNLESS IT WAS PART OF THE ORIGINAL BLACK SMOKE ELECTRICAL SMELL THAT HAPPENED WHEN ENGINE SEIZED IN THE FIRST PLACE.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V224000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND 20V100000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
