BROUGHT 2002 KIA SEDONA IN JULY 2002 AND TRANSMISSION WENT OUT IN SEPTEMBER 2002. TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AND EVER SINCE ON COLD MORNINGS TRANSMISSION JERKS VIOLENTLY SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING. HAS BEEN TO SHOP SEVERAL TIMES FOR REPAIR BUT KIA SERVICE RESPONSE TO PROBLEM IS LET CAR WARM UP FOR 15 MINUTES OR SO BEFORE YOU DRIVE OFF. THIS SOLUTION IS NOT WORKING. *AK
WHILE STARTING VEHICLE THE SLIDING DOOR WINDOW HAD BLOWNOUT AND SHATTERED INTO PIECES. NO ONE WAS HURT, BUT THE THE ONLY OCCUPANCY WAS THE DRIVER AT TIME OF INCIDENT. *AK THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE DOOR WAS SHUT AT THE TIME AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT MOVING. THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE TO INSURE HIS FAMILY'S SAFETY, AND TO KEEP THEM DRIVING KIA VEHICLES. *SCC

AIR BAG LIGHT WILL COME ON AND STAY ON, IT HAS STAYED ON FOR ABOUT A MONTH. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
WHEN USING WINDSHIELD WIPERS THEY CUT INTO THE WINDSHIELD WHILE IN USE. CUT WAS IN THE SHAPE OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARC. CONTACTED DEALER, AND T DEALER STATED THAT A ROCK DID THE DAMAGE. *AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE HAVE STALLED ON THREE OCCASIONS. VEHICLE TAKEN TO THE DEALER. DEALER INFORMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS OVERHEATING AND CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *MR
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH FUEL WAS GUSHING FROM VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER, FUEL LINE TO FUEL PUMP HAD COME OFF. CLAMP HAD NOT BEEN SECURELY ATTACHED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING WITH CHILD RESTRAINED PROPERLY IN A BOOSTER SEAT, SEAT BELT TWISTED AROUND CHILD'S WAIST. THE MORE THE CHILD MOVED THE TIGHTER THE BELT WRAPPED AROUND HER.*AK JLG
THE PARKING BRAKE ON MY VAN WILL NOT HOLD IT IN PLACE PROPERLY. IT HAS BEEN THAT WAY SINCE I BOUGHT IT AS A DEMO WITH 2,400 MILES. I COMPLAINED ABOUT IT WITHIN THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF OWNING IT. THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT TRIED TO TIGHTEN IT, AND THEY ENDED UP BREAKING IT. A NEW ONE WAS INSTALLED, AND IT FEELS JUST LIKE THE OLD ONE. I DEPRESS THE PEDAL DOWN TO THE FLOOR, AND WHEN I SHIFT INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE, THE VEHICLE MOVES. IF I GIVE IT A LITTLE BIT OF GAS, THE CAR WILL ROLL. I JUST MADE UP MY MIND THAT MY VAN DOES NOT HAVE A WORKING PARKING BRAKE. *JB
ELECTRIC SYSTEM WIRING CAUSING LIGHTS/WINDOWS AND DOOR LOCKS TO GO OUT. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
SPRING MECHANISM ON REAR HATCHBACK WAS TOO "STRONG". CONSUMER OPENED HATCHBACK AND WAS WAS KNOCKED TO THE GROUND AND BROKE ARM.*AK
BOTH SLIDING DOORS WILL NOT STOP IF A PERSON GETS IN THE PATH OF DOOR. IF DOORS ARE NOT OPEN ALL THE WAY THEY WILL CLOSE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED VEHICLE WILL CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE.*AK *SCC

AFTER REMOVAL OF 2ND AND 3RD ROW SEATS, THEY FAIL TO LATCH ON EASILY AS DESCRIBED IN THE MANUAL, BOTH TIMES DEALER'S HELP WAS NECESSARY AFTER MULTIPLE TRIALS AT HOME
VEHICLE SHUTDOWN AND THE VEHICLE HAS NO POWER AT ALL. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
VEHICLE WILL INTERMITTENTLY SHUT OFF WHILE CONSUMER IS DRIVING, CONSUMER TRIED TO START VEHICLE BACK UP, BUT THERE WAS NOTHING. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER STATED THAT CONSUMER SHOULD NOT USE ALOT OF ELECTRICITY IN VEHICLE. *AK
CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY THE CITY OF PEORIA FIRE DEPARTMENT THAT HIS INFANT CAR SEATS COULD NOT BE SECURELY ATTACHED IN THE VEHICLE, THE PLASTIC STOP BUTTONS AFFIXED TO THE SEAT BELT HOLD THE BUCKLE AT A REACHABLE HEIGHT WHICH PHYSICALLY PREVENT THE SEATBELT FROM BEING TIGHTENED TO CAR SEAT STANDARDS. *SLC
BATTERY KEEPS DRAINING THE SYSTEM. DEALER STATED WHEN USING AIR CONDITIONER AND LUMBAR SEAT BATTERY WILL DRAIN. THERE IS NO REMEDY AT THIS TIME.*AK
EVER SINCE I'VE OWNED THE KIA SEDONA I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FILL THE GAS TANK WITHOUT FUEL SPITTING BACK OUT AT ME FROM THE FILLER TUBE. I'M NOT TOPPING OFF THE TANK, I'M EITHER FILLING IT BY HOLDING THE FUEL NOZZLE WITH MY HAND OR USING THE LITTLE CATCH TO HOLD THE FUEL NOZZLE OPEN. THE VAN HAD A VALVE REPLACED BY THE DEALER IN THE FILLER TUBE BUT THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. AFTER A THIRD TRY TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED AT A DIFFERANT KIA DEALER THE SERVICE ADVISOR HAD ME CALL THE KIA HOTLINE AT 1800-333-4542 AND I WAS TOLD THE SAME THING THAT THE SERVICE ADVISOR HIMSELF HAD BEEN TOLD BY KIA, THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS NORMAL FOR THE SEDONA AND HERE IS WHY ACCORDING TO KIA, THE FILLER TUBE FEEDS GAS INTO THE TANK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK THEREFORE BUILDING UP PRESSURE INSIDE THE GAS TANK AS IT IS BEING FILLED. THE SOLUTION: FILL THE TANK UP VERY SLOWLY AS TO NOT BUILD UP PRESSURE INSIDE THE TANK WHILE FILLING. I'VE OWNED A FEW CARS AND NEVER HAD TO WORRY ABOUT FILLING UP THE TANKS FAST OR SLOW, PUT THE NOZZLE IN THE TANK PUMP THE GAS THE NOZZLE SHUTS OFF WHEN IT'S FULL YOU PAY AND HAVE A NICE DAY. ANY HELP OR ASSISTANCE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED, I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY/DESIGN ISSUE AND WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED OR BUY A SAFER VAN. WHILE DRIVING ON DRY/STRAIGHT ROAD, AT LESS THAN 30MPH, DRIVER'S REAR WINDOW COMPLETELY SHATTERED WITHOUT WARNING.*AK
STRONG ANTIFREEZE SMELL WHEN USING THE AC ON HOT DAYS. TRANSMISSION SHIFTS VIOLENTLY FROM 1-2 AND OCCASIONALLY INTO REVERSE. DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT SEVERAL TIMES. *NLM SLIDING DOORS HAVE HAD ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS AND BEARING FAILURE SEVERAL TIMES ALSO. (CURRENTLY FIXED).
AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF GAS LEAKS FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE VAN. *JG
THE LOCKING MODE THAT KEEPS THE SEAT BELT TAUT WHEN INSTALLING A CHILDS CAR SEAT STOPPED WORKING. IT IS ACTIVATED BY PULLING THE SEAT BELT ALL THE WAY OUT, AND THEN LETTING IT RETRACT. THIS KEEPS THE CAR SEAT SECURE. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALTER AND ALTHOUGH THEY HAD TO BE CONVINCED THERE WAS A PROBLEM, THEY AGREED TO REPLACE BOTH CENTER BELTS. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS MAY BE HAPPENING IN OTHER NEW 2002 SEDONA LX'S. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE SEAT BELTS ARE "UNIVERAL" BUT I WANTED TO REPORT THIS FAILURE, AND WHAT DO I DO IF MY VAN IS RETURNED, THE SEAT BELTS WORK FOR A WHILE, AND THEN THIS HAPPENS AGAIN? LUCKILY THIS FAILURE WAS NOTICED WHILE I WAS INSTALLING THE SEAT BELT, AND DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I HAVE THREE YOUNG CHILDREN IN CAR SEATS.*AK
BACK SEAT SEATBELTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE ALREADY IN THE SPAN OF A FEW MONTHS. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER HAS REPLACED THE BELTS, BUT PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN REMEDIED.*AK
CONSUMER HAVING PROBLEMS WITH CHILD SAFETY LOCK ON VEHICLE WHICH IS CAUSING CHILD TO OPEN DOOR.*AK
OUR SEDONA HAS BEEN PULLING SINCE WE FIRST BOUGHT IT. FIRST TO THE LEFT, THEN TO THE RIGHT, THEN NOTHING, NO PULL. BEEN ALIGNED TWICE. ALSO BEEN TOLD I TAKE MY HANDS OFF UNEVENLY WHICH CAUSES TO PULL, ALSO THAT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO KEEP CORRECT TIRE PRESSURE IN. THE CAR PULLS HEAVILY. ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. SCARED TO DRIVE. ALSO BRAKES VIBRATE CAR BADLY WHEN BRAKING FROM HIGH TO LOW SPEED ESPECIALLY ON A DOWNHILL. HAVE CONTACTED THE BBB AUTO LINE. I BELIEVE THE CAR IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND I CAN NOT STAND DRIVING THIS THING. DEFECTIVE AUTO EQUIPMENT.
WE HAVE A 2002 KIA SEDONA; WE BOUGHT IN DEC OF 2001. WITHIN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS, THE ALTERNATOR,BATTERY,IGNITION SWITCH, HAD TO BE REPLACED, ALONG WITH SLIDING DOORS FALLING OFF THE HINGE. I COMPLAINED OF A WIND NOISE FOR THE FIRST YEAR NO ONE KNEW WHAT IT WAS. IT WENT UNFIXED. WITHIN A YEAR THE SHOCKS, THE STRUTS AND SLIDING DOORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. MY AIR-CONDITION WENT OUT COMPLETELY GUESS WHAT NO MORE WIND NOISE. AND NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. MY REAR WIPER CONTROL WENT OUT. RECENTLY, WHILE ON THANKSGIVING VACATION TO OHIO WE HAD TO HAVE ROADSIDE PICK UP OUR VAN AS THE TRANSMISSION TOTALLY WENT OUT WITHOUT WARNING. WHILE IN THE SHOP WE WERE ADVISED OUR BRAKES WERE NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. WE HAD NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. AND THE MOTOR MOUNTS WERE ALSO IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. WAS IN THE SHOP 14 DAYS, WE HAD TO DRIVE BACK TO OHIO TO WHEN READY. THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR HAD NEVER EVER DONE THAT BEFORE. WHEN WE WERE ON OUR WAY OUT OF TOWN, THE TRANSMISSION WAS ACTING UP. WE MADE IT HOME ON DEC 7TH AND NO ONE AT KIA COULD TAKE THE VEHICLE IN UNTIL THE SERVICE MANAGER RETURNED MY CALL HE WAS OFF FOR DOCTOR VISIT. ON DEC 13, I TOOK MY VAN IN TO BE REPAIRED, THEY CALLED ME AND TOLD ME IT WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION, AND GUESS WHAT THEY ARE ALSO REPAIRING THE SLIDING DOORS 5TH TIME I THINK. THEY HAVE TO ALSO FIX THE DENT IN THE HOOD THAT WAS NOT THERE, BEFORE THE OHIO KIA TOOK IT IN TO BE FIXED. TODAY IT HAS BEEN 15 DAYS. I STILL DO NOT HAVE MY VAN. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND KIA TO MY WORST ENEMY. PLEASE ALLOW OTHERS TO KNOW THAT KIA IS A LEMON IF EVER THERE WERE ONE.*AK
DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF VEHICLE, AT ANY SPEED ABS LIGHT ON INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATE. ALSO, WHEN CONSUMER ATTEMPTS TO STOP VEHICLE BY APPLYING PRESSURE TO BRAKE PEDAL IT WILL FALL TO FLOORBOARD, AND BRAKE SYSTEM WILL FAIL TO ACTIVATE. COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY FOUR TIMES, AND HAS NOT RESULTED IN A CRASH OR INJURY. DEALERSHIP CANNOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. *AK THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND THE BRAKES FAILED AGAIN DUE TO BAD SOLENOID AND LOOSE WIRE CONNECTIONS AND BURNED UP WIRES. *YH
BRAKE SYSTEM FAIL TO RESPOND EVERY 3000 TO 4000 MILES DEALER CLAIM IS ADJUSTMENT AND CLEANING, THE VIBRATION IS TERRIBLE WHEN BRAKING IS NOT SAFE I DONT FEEL SAFE LAST TIME WAS 2 DAYS AGO AND AGAIN CAR ONLY 16106 MILES BOUGHT IN FEB 2002 WILL GO BACK TO DEALER LETS SEE WHAT THEY DO
POWER STEERING BELT HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO PULLEY BREAKING WHILE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 70MPH ON HIGHWAY AND HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM REAR OF VEHICLE. SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO SHOULDERS. LEFT REAR TIRE WAS FLAT. IN SECOND INCIDENT LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD SAPARTED FROM VEHICLE. TIRES ARE KUMHO, P215/70R15* DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM. *AK
BACK HATCH DOOR WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL. CONTACTED DEALER ,AND THE DEALER IS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK *YH
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 KIA SEDONA. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 65MPH HE NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STALLED FOR A SHORT PERIOD AND THEN CORRECTED ITSELF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT HAD THE CATYLATIC CONVERTER REPLACED; HOWEVER, AFTER THE REPAIRS THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE FOLLOWED BY THE ENGINE LIGHT APPEARING ON THE DASHBOARD. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS . THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS AT 3000.
WINDSHIELDS HAVE DISTORTIONS AT EYE LEVEL, CAUSING CONSUMER TO SEE OBJECTS THROUGH WINDSHIELDS WAVY. DEALER REPLACED WINDSHIELD ON 24 SEP 2001, THEN AGAIN ON 29 SEP 2001. BOTH HAD SAME DEFECTS. CONSUMER LOOKED THROUGH OTHER KIA WINDSHIELDS AT DEALERSHIP, ALL HAD THE SAME DISTORTIONS. *AK
FRONT WINDSHIELD SHATTERED WHILE DRIVING. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION ON THIS MATTER.*AK
2002 KIA SEDONA WITH STEERING FAILURE. CONSUMER STATES THAT MECHANIC TOLD HER THAT A BOLT FELL OUT AND COULD NOT BE REPLACED UNLESS THE ENTIRE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED. CONSUMER STATES THAT WASN'T THE FIRST TIME THE STEERING HAS HAD PROBLEMS. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED DURING THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNING THE VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED ,THE DRIVERS SEAT MOTOR HAD TO BE REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE FUSE THAT CONTROLLED THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS MALFUNCTIONED ON A CONTINUOUS BASIS. *JB
DANGEROUS DESIGN OF FUEL TANK FILLING SYSTEM. FUEL TANK FILLER RUBBER HOSE ATTACHES TO LOWER LOBE OF FUEL TANK. HOSE WILL CONTAIN FUEL UNTIL TANK IS NEARLY EMPTY. HOSE IS ROUTED BELOW UNIBODY FRAME RAIL AND IS HIGHLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO IMPACT DAMAGE FROM ROAD DEBRIS. IF HOSE WERE TO BECOME DAMAGED/DISLODGED, ENTIRE CONTENTS OF FUEL TANK COULD SPILL. IF THIS HAPPENED WHILE VEHICLE IS IN FORWARD MOTION, THE FUEL COULD SPRAY ONTO (LARGE) HOT MUFFLER POSITIONED TRANSVERSLEY, IMMEDIATELY AFT OF FUEL TANK. I FEEL THIS DESIGN PRESENTS AN EXTREME FIRE/EXPLOSION HAZARD THAT COULD BE FATAL TO VEHICLE OCCUPANTS. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A POORLY DESIGNED FUEL SYSTEM!*AK
VEHICLE SHUDDERS WHEN BRAKING, ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING DOWNHILL. VEHICLE HAS BEEN RETURNED TO DEALER FOR SERVICE FOUR TIMES: 1) ROTORS WERE RE-SURFACED, 2) ROTORS WERE REPLACED, 3) ROTORS WERE RE-SURFACED AGAIN, 4) DEALER CLAIMED THAT "HEAVY BRAKING" CAUSED WEAR AND REFUSED TO PROVIDE WARRANTY SERVICE. *AK
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES AND COMING TO A RED LIGHT, PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. THERE WAS A THUMPING PRESENT, AND ABS KICKED IN, ALLOWING DRIVER TO STOP VEHICLE. DEALER CHANGED BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS.*AK
THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE STALLS. ON ONE OCCASION THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED IN THE STREET WITH TRAFFIC FLOW, AND THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. A VEHICLE HAD CONTINUED MOVING AND SLIGHTLY SCRAPED THE REAR OF THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE. THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SHOP FOR REPAIRS AND AFTER INSTALLING A NEW BATTERY, THE ALTERNATOR DOESN'T CRANK. *SCC
CONSUMER COMPLAINS OF A LOUD WHISLTE WHEN DRIVING OVER 40 MPH. THE FACTORY REP TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED IT TO BE THE ROOF RACK. THEIR SOLUTION WAS POSSIBLY A REDESIGN OF THE CROSS MEMBERS. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. *JG

THE LOCATION AND THE CARRYING DEVICE FOR THE SPARE TIRE IS CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE TIRE, MAKING IT UNUSABLE.*AK
