There are 4 owner-reported brakes complaints for the 2012 Kia Sedonain NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
The auto was diagnosed with a leaking ABS system which is an ongoing problem with this auto maker. The dealership stated there are currently no parts in the US to replace it. Not sure when they will be available. They want to charge me $2900 to buy the part not including labor costs. It seems this model is not currently under recall so I will have to pay. Told me not to drive the car or park it in the garage. They also refuse to give me a loaner car. I am sure this replacement part should be included with the other model recalls. They have a problem and want the consumer to pay. This is a safety issue with ALL their models.
BRAKE PEDAL SOFT, BRAKES FADE IN PANIC STOP , AT VEHICLE STOP BRAKE PEDAL FADES TO FLOOR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 KIA SEDONA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO RESPOND CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE INDEPENDENTLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000.
IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE WHILE DRIVING ON A DAILY BASIS TO NOT STEP ON THE BRAKES WHILE ALSO DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR SIMULTANEOUSLY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW, SINCE I'VE BEEN DRIVING FOR 42 YEARS AND HAVE DRIVEN DOZENS UPON DOZENS OF MAKES AND MODELS AND NEVER ONCE ENCOUNTERED AN ISSUE WHERE THE BRAKE & ACCELERATOR ARE POSITIONED IN SUCH A WAY THAT, UNLESS YOU PICK UP YOUR FOOT COMPLETELY OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND DELIBERATELY REPLACE IT TO THE FAR LEFT OF THE BRAKE PEDAL, THEN YOU FIND YOURSELF PRESSING BOTH AT ONCE CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD WHILE YOU ARE TRYING TO STOP. THIS IS NOT AN OCCASIONAL PROBLEM. IT OCCURS ON A NEAR DAILY BASIS, DESPITE THE FACT THAT I'M AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND DO EVERYTHING TO AVOID IT. IT'S AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DESIGN FLAW AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU. *TR
