Engine seized without warning. Oil was empty, no warning light or any indication at all, just died. Lost all power in middle of traffic, couldn’t steer or control the car. Luckily managed to direct into someone’s driveway, but was left half blocking the road until tow truck came
I was driving my vehicle when my car engine started making a large grinding noise and there were zero sensors going off about anything wrong. I immediately pulled over and saw oil just dumping out of the engine
While driving down the highway we noticed the rpm’s were getting high while accelerating. There were no warning indicators on the dash and the car recently passed state emissions. By the time we could safely pull over there was a knocking sound from the engine. We checked the oil and could not get a reading. We added oil but it was too late, the engine has severe damage. The entire time there were no warning lights or other indications that anything was wrong.
Engine failure at 155,540 miles. Presented a knocking sound. When evaluated by the dealership, metal fragments were present at the oil pan, indicating internal breakage. The driver was traveling on a highway when noticed the knocking, the engine could have ceased and locked during the trip, putting occupants at severe risk.
1. Excessive oil consumption. The oil was completely burned out at the time of my oil change. (3,000 miles/ 3 months) 2. The Engine Oil Level Warning Light fails to illuminate if the engine oil level is too low for the vehicle to operate safety and efficiently.
On 25 March 2024, my wife was driving our 2016 Kia Sedona with my two children. Without warning, the engine stopped, the vehicle jolted to a halt, and my wife was left stranded in the middle of the road with no ability to pull the vehicle onto the shoulder. She was only traveling about 15 miles per hour at the time and no one was no crash or injuries, but at higher speeds this could have been disastrous. We had the vehicle towed to a Kia dealership, and after performing diagnostics and inspecting the vehicle, we were told that the engine "seized" and that they were unable to provide a more detailed explanation. They also said that it could take months to replace the engine (a $10,000 plus repair) and that our only immediate recourse was to buy a new vehicle. For additional context, the vehicle has about 150,000 miles on it, we have kept up with all recommended maintenance and oil changes, and there were no warning lights, check engine lights, or low oil lights present. We had also had the vehicle inspected as part of a recent oil change, and a mechanic ran diagnostics and changed some of the necessary fluids. In summary, the vehicle was in good shape, well maintained, and there was no warning for the sudden engine failure that could have been catastrophic at high speeds.

Head bolts pulled out of block causing head gasket to fail needing engine replaced
No lights on the dash, no maintenance or check engine lights. The van began making noises under the hood and then blowing white smoke from the exhaust. The electrical connectors to the fan were melted and hot. To the cooling fan, radiator, etc. The fan connector caused the car to over heat.
The engine light came on sunday 25 Feb, I took it to autozone the next am and had the code read, it was for the crankshaft alignment sensor. My mechanic told me it may be several issues when that code came up and I should have it serviced soon but that it wasn't an emergency. The following day it had a new code show up on the entertainment system on the way home from my wifes job. The engine began to shake a bit and the engine light began to blink, it would not accelerate smoothly but as there were no safe places to stop my wife drove it the 3 miles home. It went in that night and was looked at Wednesday. It threw codes p0300, p0019, p0024, p0302, p0304, p0306 it was missing 5 quarts of oil (no warning light) 3 cylinders misfiring, timing codes, fuel samples were taken and were normal. The mechanic said there were no contributing factors to the engine failure other than poor design. As I have a 7 person house and need a second vehicle I have no choice but to trade it in tomorrow and get a new vehicle and roll the negative equity into the new car. My kids need to get to school and both the wife and I to work.
Vehicle shut off while driving for no apparent reason. Vehicle had plenty of fuel and battery measures 12.8 volts with engine off, 13.8 volts when vehicle is on. No error code. Steering and braking stopped working correctly. We were traveling through a parking lot at the time so luckily not at high speed or this could have ended deadly. The vehicle would not immediately start back up, we put it in park, turned the key and the engine would turn over but not start. After 4 or 5 tries it did start, and the only fault to appear was the ABS light which came on and stayed on solid. After parking and shutting the vehicle off and restarting it the ABS light went away. No other fault codes are or were present.
In February 2024, while driving on the highway, the van overheated causing us to pull over. Upon opening the hood, it was found that coolant was boiling in the reservoir. After letting the vehicle cool down, I began driving it again. Once back on the highway I heard a loud pop followed by smoke. I immediately pulled over. Coolant had sprayed all over the exterior of the van. When trying to tow the vehicle, it was found that it wouldn’t start. The vehicle was towed home and sat until we received the recall from Kia at the end of May/beginning of June. Once the recall was received and we noticed the symptoms of the recall matched those of our van, we scheduled a diagnostic appointment with MidWest Kia in Wichita, KS. We received news from the dealership that Kia declined the request for repair due to hoses being broken and according to them, they are not covered by this warranty extension in the recall. We started researching and found that faulty head gaskets(the reason for the recall) can cause hoses to deteriorate and even break. We contacted Kia Motors and talked with them about this. They still denied the claim. The cost of the repair would be over $10,000. Ki has records of the phone calls made to appeal.
2016 Kia Sedona 3.3L V6 Engine overheating due to head gasket failure and coolant leakage, which subsequently caused noxious fumes to enter the cabin of the car which is a health risk especially for people who suffer from asthma, chronic diseases, or other high-risk populations such as pregnant women or children. While travelling with my family of five (including three children), we noticed an intermittent smell inside the cabin of the car while the air-conditioning was turned on, which days later we realized were engine coolant fumes. There was no warning light or indication of head gasket failure with coolant leakage. We were all exposed to these engine fumes inside the cabin, which contain ethylene glycol, that likely caused two children to feel nauseous and an adult with diagnosed asthma felt headaches and shortness of breath. According to the CDC, breathing ethylene glycol vapors may irritate eyes and lungs (source: [XXX] ). Kia acknowledges that a coolant smell may be experienced in the 2016-2017 Kia Sorento’s vehicles equipped with the 3.3L V6 engine [XXX], which is the same engine that is equipped in the 2016 Kia Sedona. We confirmed the 2016 Kia Sedona experienced a head gasket failure from an authorized Kia dealership and repair shop. Airbag warning light repeatedly coming on. First time told harness under seat problem paid then reimbursed as recall. Year later on again dealer took care unknown fix. During May of this year same airbag light on when took in for oil change and asked if could fix seat thing again. I'm very short rest of drivers tall so seat moved positions farthest forward to farthest back. Told must make diagnostic appointment earliest February. Today told front passenger side air bag needs to be replaced. Our minivan carries whole family and never in accident but needs new airbag would of replaced sooner if realized not harness but airbag not working! Van has 76,121miles think component should last longer and still work! Paying as told no recall! Dangerous to have light for other than airbag. Reported Kia Manufacturing. Use Dealer Valley KIA, 16272 S. Highland, Fontana, ca Today invoice #6174973/1. Awaiting part to fix.
The turn signals do not work properly. Has I attempt to turn left my right blinker turns on, otherwise none of the blinkers work and blowing my rear light bulbs. I addressed this to the dealer however any dealer or mechanic wants to charge me to look into this. As I was reviewing my cars history it has been noted as a manufacturing issues and failure to repair this defect. I purchased this Kia sadoma without being told this was an issue. It seems that the transmission gear li lage issue was not addressed or repaired on my car either. I was not made aware of this issue either. After a year of ownership I only knew of this after reviewing my car history through a database. Now I am very mad and unhappy with the fact that I am driving a vehicle not working properly and everyone wants to charge me a ton of money knowing this is a manufacturing fault issue.
we kept regular maintenance of vehicle and adhering oil change specs. one morning we start the van to let it warm up to go to bus stop, and it is making a TERRIBLE tingling ting a ling ting a ling noise from what seems to be the top end of the engine. We immediately turn it off. We check the oil.... it is BONE DRY. there was no light indicators or warning lamps that came on. it did not run any differently then it has ran in the past. If my son who just gotten his license was driving along our busy highway... it would have been a totallly different outcome. I am fearful for any individuals using this vehicle with their families. the only issue we had that is close to this was in late 2023. we checked our oil and the fluid was burning oil very QUICKLY, like needed oil daily. so we took it to a KIA certified garage, and we paid to have the oil seal replaced. i am still paying the 1800$$ job off! it has ran fine since, but now i am wondering if it really was the seal.... cuz where did the oil go this time????? Again, there are no oil trails, no puddles.... no nothing. Our family is educated on mechanics and general mechanical systems.... and this Kia has been a mechanical monster. We've only had it since Dec 2021. I would like to know if this Kia is WORTH fixing or if these engines are just not worth the effort or MONEY! thank you
Engine failed at less than 90k miles. Kia wants to put a new engine in for $15,000. I bought it used so no 100k mile warranty. I have always had my car serviced at the dealership and never missed a service. This is a common problem and Kia has already been sued by multiple parties including a large class-action suit that resulted in them recalling 3 million cars. There is no warning when this happens. If you are driving on the freeway, as I was with my three kids, this type of failure can lead to loss of control of the car. They need to own up to this problem. People will get hurt/killed as a result of Kia's negligence.
I just purchased this 2016 kia sedona and both of the power sliding doors will make a grinding/popping noise when they close and occasionally will not latch completely making it possible for them to come open when the van is moving. Kia is aware of the problem but did not issue a recall instead made it a service bulletin. I was informed that the warranty only went to 60000 miles and my van is at 83000 so I would have to pay for the repair. This is extremely unsafe and should have been recalled immediately not left to a service bulletin.
I purchased my kia Sedona new and have always properly maintained it. It now has approximately 140,000 miles on it. Our sedona started to get hot so we let it cool down then took it straight to the dealership. They said we need a new engine, the head gasket is leaking because of faulty threads in the engine block. They said this is a common problem on this engine that they get a couple a week with this problem! They said sorry but kia would not help with any of the cost.
There were absolutely no warning lights on my dashboard for the engine, engine oil or anything. I was on a busy 2 lane road with my 7 year old on December 21, 2023 and suddenly the Charging System Warning light and the Immobilizer Indicator came on and the car stopped accelerating. I had to coast off of the road where there was no where to pull over. There are only 61,355 miles on my car and I had just had the safety inspection completed by Kia on September 7, 2023. I had the car towed to the Kia dealership in Leesburg as I always trusted them with servicing my car. They now want me to pay $9,899.72 to replace the long block, starter motor, and intake manifold OR they said they will pay me $500 for my car. The car is in the Kia dealerships lot right now because we would have to tow it somewhere else. The only symptom started 2 days before the incident. When starting the car it made a clicking sound. There were absolutely no other symptoms.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sedona. The contact stated that while a State Inspection was being performed on the vehicle, it was discovered that water and condensation were present inside the driver's and passenger’s side rear brake light housing. The contact stated that the vehicle failed the safety inspection due to the failure. The water and condensation were removed from the housing and the light bulbs were replaced but the failure reoccurred during the next rainstorm. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 97,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sedona. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, he heard an abnormal clicking noise coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle back to the residence and checked the oil and the coolant level. The contact stated that there was coolant leaking and that the oil level was low. The contact stated he filled the coolant reservoir and topped off the oil level and continued to drive the vehicle. The contact stated that he heard a loud clicking sound however, there was no warning light illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to a local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and informed the contact that the head gasket was blown, and that coolant had leaked into the long block. The contact stated that the dealer advised that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: DP24002 (Engine). The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sedona. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the heater was no longer blowing hot air. Additionally, the engine was overheating. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who replaced the thermostat and the water pump, but the failure continued to occur. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the rear cylinder head bolts had failed, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 123,000.
Our 2016 Kia Sedona SX with the 3.3L engine was consuming engine oil very quickly and experienced overheating. It is available for inspection. One time when the engine overheated, my wife was driving on the highway during a very cold day and had to pull over to stop the car. She had both of our children with her. The engine failed a block test that was performed by an independent mechanic shop. It was also taken to a nearby Kia dealership, and found to have a cracked head gasket, which is the cause of the steel bolts pulling and destroying the threads in the aluminum engine block. Since the dealership said they had to pull the engine apart to inspect it, the engine CANNOT be put back together since the threads are destroyed. There was no indication light that the engine was consuming oil so fast and low. We did get warning light and message when the car was overheating. There was NO indication on the warning lights that oil volume was low.
Experienced overheating issues at only 105,000 miles due to leaking cylinder head gasket diagnosed at multiple mechanics, including the local Kia dealership. I was informed that this engine has a common defect where the head gasket bolts strip out of the engine block.
While driving the check engine light came on, the radio started talking about an engine failure, and my van lost all power. I was on an interstate going at least 70 mph, my children in the vehicle and cars, trucks, and semis passing us. We were almost hit trying to get to the side of the road. I took the van to the Kia dealership where they informed me that it would need an engine replacement. Before this incident there was no warning of the failure at all.

No warning lights ever came on. We took the vehicle to the KIA dealer because the fan stayed on when we shut off the engine and the heat stopped working. The KIA dealer said the vehicle needs a new engine due to head gasket leakage. This vehicle clearly has a major engine defect that could cause the vehicle to breakdown at any time with a failed engine. How does an engine fail without the engine light ever coming on? The vehicle has been properly maintained with timely oil changes and fluid checks.
Engine failed without warning on a trip to urgent care with our daughter. Was running normally, then started losing some acceleration and knocking loudly. Further inspection showed almost no oil in car, with no evidence of a leak. Car is parked in same spot on driveway daily and there isn’t even a drop of leaked oil. Both the loss of power on the freeway and failure with no warning during an emergency left us and others at risk. Our son, a certified mechanic, has confirmed a thrown rod bearing. It failed October 6, Kia can’t even look at it until the 26th. I’m currently incurring the cost of a rental vehicle in addition to the cost of replacing the engine. No warning lights were illuminated before the failure, and none are illuminated after the failure.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sedona. The contact became aware that the radiator was overheating while driving. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact replaced the thermostat, the radiator cap, and flushed the coolant and radiator system. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact noticed that the temperature gauge was indicating that the vehicle had started overheating. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the mechanic discovered that the head bolts on the cylinder heads had been stretched, causing coolant to leak into the engine cylinders. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Coolant all over everything! Mechanics will not touch it. Constantly adding coolant. Can’t drive far. Without overheating. Cracked heater core less then 90,000 miles
Valve cover is cracked, loosing coolant and oil, ruining alternator, smoking, smells like it’s burning. Runs rough, dash lights up. Dies while driving
I was driving on 2 two lane highway and starting to go up an incline. All of a sudden the vehicle started making a low rumble type sound and even though my foot was on the accelerator, the vehicle would not continue to drive. Everything basically stopped working. I was able to pull over onto the shoulder and put the vehicle in park. The engine light started blinking and then several lights started coming on. I turned the vehicle off for a few minutes and the restarted. Same thing happened. The engine light came on and the vehicle would not go after I put it in drive. Same rumble as well. I was able to get it towed to a trusted independent mechanic. After checking out the vehicle, he found there was no oil. What? We get it serviced on a regular basis and wasn't due for an oil change. There was NO WARNING LIGHT to alert me that the oil was gone. This ruined our engine. Our mechanic stated Motor is bad, no compression on 2 4 6 bank of engine. There was only 126,xxx miles on this vehicle. I am beyond upset as the vehicle is still in great condition and will now have to spend almost $5,000 on a replacement engine with 100,000 plus $1,000 in labor. This is unacceptable!!!!!
The vehicle started making a rattling noise, but there were no lights on the dash at all!. My husband checked the oil and there was no oil. (It wasn't even due for an oil change yet.) Even after adding 5 quarts of oil, the engine threw a rod through the oil pan while it was being driven down the road. Then the engine caught on fire. Thankfully, my husband was able to get the car to the side of the road without causing an accident or getting burned. There were chunks of metal and oil sprayed all over the road. We had to have it towed and upon an independent mechanic's inspection, found out that the engine was completely destroyed and would have to be replaced and would probably cost about $8,500 (not including the added cost of a rental vehicle while the engine is replaced.) We had just had the oil leak recall completed in May and the local Kia dealership said everything was fine. My husband attempted to call Kia directly as well as the local Kia dealership, but no resolution has been reached.
A few weeks ago, we were taking FIVE kids to the beach (a one-hour drive) when after about 25 minutes, the van (2016 Kia Sedona SXL with a 3.3L V6 GDI engine) would not accelerate above 35MPH. We drove it home in "limp mode" on the shoulder and going 30MPH. I took it to my regular mechanic who informed me the engine oil was completely dry and the recommended $1900 in repairs to replace damaged valve covers and sensors. After picking it up, the check engine light came on only a few miles from the mechanic. I took it back and they recommended taking it to Kia for a complete diagnostic workup. After a week at the dealership, they gave me an estimated repair bill of just under $8,000 and stated after all that work then engine could possibly still not work due to total engine failure because it ran out of oil. I get the oil changed on a regular basis. absolutely NO warning lights came on prior to the vehicle failing to accelerate onto a busy highway. We had five kids in the car - two of which were friends of my kids. We were lucky that no one was zooming by when we tried to merge onto the highway because the engine completely lost power. It could have been a very dangerous situation. Now, after reading literally HUNDREDS of posts and complaints stating the EXACT same issue, I'm wondering why Kia has not recalled this particular model of car. They have, however, recalled the exact same engine in different models. I'm genuinely confused as to why SO many people are having the EXACT same issue and Kia is refusing to acknowledge it's an issue on their end that they should be fixing. I have a 2016 van which is otherwise in perfect condition sitting at my house needing a completely new engine. I should not be needing the engine replaced after only 108,000 miles - of which it has been regularly services. It's absolutely infuriating. The dealership basically threw up their hands and said they couldn't do anything except replace the engine for $8,500!!!!
We were driving with FIVE kids and my 2016 Sedona lost power while driving & wouldn't accelerate over 30mph. Drove home couldn't go over 30 mph even with the pedal to the floor. Got home, checked oil and it was bone dry. Check engine light NEVER came on and the oil light NEVER came on. The check engine light only came on AFTER it lost power and went into limp mode. Oil was not leaking as I park on a concrete driveway and would have seen any leaks immediately. $2,000 later at the mechanic (they replaced value covers and sensors) and the check engine light still wouldn't go off and the car continued to lose power after driving for about 20-30 minutes. I can turn the car off, wait a few minutes, turn it back on and it runs FINE for a while (20 mins. max). Also, the car runs absolutely fine until it loses power. No noises, no knocking, nothing to indicate there is an engine issue. The mechanic who couldn't fix it recommended; I take it to the dealer for a complete diagnostic workup. After a week at the Kia dealer with little to no feedback / info as to what was going on, I was finally given an estimate for $7,800 worth of repairs and told that still may not fix the issue as there could be internal engine failure because it ran out of oil. After a cursory google search, this appears to be a common problem with the Kia 3.3 GDI engines like mine. There were recalls and Kia extended the engine warranties on various other models with the same engines due to the exact same issue, but they have not extended the same benefits to Kia Sedona owners. There was even a class action lawsuit regarding this issue but again, not with the Sedona. My concern is this is a MAJOR safety issue. FIVE kids in the car on a normally busy highway (it was early so there weren't many people on the road). Had it been as busy as it normally is, we would have been rear-ended which could lead to MUCH worse on a busy highway. Please investigate this before someone is seriously hurt or killed.
While driving down the road, the car started sputtering and smoking. There were no warning lights on the dash, or irregular readings. My son pulled over and flames were coming from underneath the vehicle. Upon immediate inspection, there was an oil trail in the road behind the vehicle and pieces of the rod and oil pan. They said it looked like the engine threw a rod, damaging the oil pan, and causing the fire. We are still awaiting an independent inspection and solution from Kia, but they’re taking their time. Thankfully my son was able to exit the vehicle quickly and safely.
My car was at a stop sign. Upon accelerating after the stop, the engine stopped working without any warning. There were no warning indicators that there was a problem prior to the car ceasing to work. Itook the car to my usual mechanic and he indicated that the engine would need to be replaced. In his assessment, at only 68,800 miles, the engine should not have been an issue. The car has been at a local dealership for a week now, and I am waiting to hear their assessment of this situation. The car stopped directly in the middle of an intersection, and prior to this we were on the a highway. This would have been a much more significant issue had it stopped in the middle of the highway. Additionally as there were no warning lights prior to the issue, a driver would have no indication that there is a problem.
The engine failed. It burned through all of the oil, didn't give any warnings or light and just died.
While driving engine started making a rattling noise and then died. Checked and there was no oil. No warning lights came on at all. No oil light, no check engine light; nothing. Van only has 96,000 miles. Service is performed regularly on van. Was 2 hours away from home and had to have vehicle towed. After researching I found that the 3.3 liter engines on some Kias are failing due to oil starvation caused by the oil light sensor not coming on. Kia has addressed this issue in some of their other vehicles but have yet to add the Sedonas to the engine recall. Now I’m stuck with a vehicle that more than likely needs a new engine and a company that will not take responsibility for their failure to include the Sedonas in the engine recall.
* The red airbag dash light comes on only when there is a passenger in the front passenger seat. The "OFF" light by the passenger air bag sign goes off like it should, symbolizing the airbag is turned in. However, the light on the dash coming on has me worried it is defective. *If the passenger airbag does not deploy if needed, that could risk serious injury or death. *This van was sold to us two day ago by a Kia dealership who said it passed all safety inspections. However, since the light only comes on when there is a front passenger, I'm sure it was overlooked. *I am in contact with the dealership we purchased it from. I have not heard back yet. *The warning light came on the first time I had a passenger in the vehicle after purchasing it.
The engine oil leaking for any anywhere, first look like transmission fluid leaking, but clear it didn't find any leaking, and check engine oil tank didn't find any leaking, find from recall have same problem but not my Vin number, and in my car didn't show warning light.
Hello NHTSA representative, The dealership Lupient KIA in Glendale, WI closed the recall campaign SC175 and the action required was not performed. The KIA customer care closed the case 15510583 without explanation and when contacted opening a different one 15502908 mentioned that the car is out of warranty and they do not care any more. I am looking for your support to get KIA reviewed this anomaly in this dealership and obviously leave a precedent ahead of repairing the vehicle as the diagnosis of the failure cost 295usd plus the repair. According to the safety recall campaign under number SC175 (REV 1 03/20/2019) for KIA SEdona, that can be consulted in https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2019/RCRIT-19V109-3930.pdf, the clip should have been cut during the recall but the clip is still present and there is an error and a broken harness in my vehicle. See picture as evidence that the clip was not removed according to the instructions at the KIA dealership. The safety recall states on step 3 to "Carefully detach the ODS connector retaining clip (B) closest to the ODS connector." and on step 4 to "Carefully cut the retaining clip between the wiring harness and the clip head (C) using side-cutter pliers and discard the clip head. Allow the wiring harness to move freely. Do not replace the retaining clip or secure the harness." as you can see in the attached picture the clip is uncut. In case during the previous safety recall the seat was changed, the statement for the clip is equivalent that it should not be present per the same safety recall. Regards,
Was driving down the highway on a road trip and the Sedona developed an engine rattle. Pulled over into the nearest gas station to inspect. I checked the oil and the oil was 3 quarts low -- even though my vehicle received regular oil changes/maintenance! I filled up but the damage was too far gone; motor had a clanking noise and would not stay started. Had vehicle towed to my dealership where it still is awaiting a motor swap. Dealership confirmed engine damage and recommended the full swap. It's been 3 weeks. Kia has no open recall for this even though a growing number of Sedona owners are experienced the same issues.
Headlights will shut off while driving. This sometimes will occur on its own, other times, it appears to be caused when using the turn signal lever. The lights will come back on by touching/moving the lever. This is dangerous and could lead to an accident.
The contact owns a 2015 Kia Sedona. The contact stated that on various occasions, the gear shift lever seized. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the shift lever assembly needed to be replaced. The contact became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V612000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact was informed by the mechanic that the gear shifter failed to shift into drive(D). The vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
In Feb of 2023, my van had no known issues and out of nowhere it started making a terrible noise, every light in the dash came on, my power steering stopped working and then my engine shut off. I had it towed to a mechanic shop, they said it needed an engine. I had it towed to our local KIA dealership. They said it did not need an engine, it only needed a timing chain. That was $8000. We decided to get it done. 4 weeks later exactly from when we picked it up, I was on the interstate and the exact thing happened. I had it towed back to our local KIA. They stated it now needed an engine and it would be a used engine because they do not manufacture the engine anymore. It had over 60K miles on it and it would be $13K not including shipping or labor. We decided not to do this. After further investigation, this should have been under warranty the entire time and we never should have spent any money on it. This has been a terribly unreliable “family car”. I will NEVER buy a KIA again. My family is still suffering from paying $8K+ to have it “fixed”.
BOTH SLIDING DOORS OPEN UP WHEN GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND BOTH SLIDING DOORS WILL NOT SHUT ALL THE WAY UNLESS U PUSH ON THEM HARD TO SHUT BUT THEY WILL STILL OPEN UP REGARDLESS
1)The airbags failed at time of accident, yes is available for inspection. 2)This is a family car (KIA Sedona 2016) with kids in the car ..if the airbags not working at time of an impact, could and up in deadly/fatality accident. 3) No. 4)The vehicle has been inspected by police and insurance. 5) no warning or issues show anywhere to advise of issue, this car has not been involve in any accident before. Last time took the car to dealer was 1 month ago… November 2022
I was driving the car and noticed a smell. I looked down and saw the the temperature gauge was in the red zone but there were no dashboard lights or any sounds to let me know there was a problem . I pulled over and called AAA. They took the car to a AAA repair shop. The repair shop called me and said the head gasket was blown and that the car needed a new engine as the cost to repair would be even more money.
