DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT OPEN FRONT DOORS. DRIVING SNOW AND RAIN, I HAVE TO GET IN THE BACK SEAT CLIMB OVER TO OPEN FRONT DOORS. THE KEY DOES NOT WORK EITHER. I FIND IT HARD TO FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE IF I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT YOU CAN NOT OPEN DOOR FROM OUTSIDE. WHEN THIS HAPPENED TWO CHILDREN IN CAR SAFETY LOCKS ON., CLOSE MY DOOR TO ASSIST THEM OUT CAN'T GET BACK INTO VEHICLE. REMOTE WILL NOT ACTIVATE LOCKS KEY WILL NOT OPEN FRONT DOORS SO I CAN GET IN. HAD TO CLIMB IN REAR HATCH.
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON DUE TO A ISSUE WITH OIL CONTROL VALVES AND CVVT CONTINUOUS VARIABLE VALVE TIMING. SEEMS LIKE A KNOWN ISSUE OF KIA, I WOULD THINK KIA WOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY OR OFFER SOME SORT OF CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE FOR THE $4800 REPAIR PEORIA KIA QUOTED FOR THE JOB. 3 KIA OWNER..NOT ANY MORE!!
JUST WENT TO OPEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE PASSENGER DOOR OF MY KIA SORRENTO ONE DAY IN JAN. 2016, AND IT WOULD NOT OPEN. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY WERE ABLE TO GET IT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE AND DISENGAGED THE CHILD SAFETY LOCK, BUT IT STILL WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE $350 TO FIX IT. I WENT TO WORK A COUPLE WEEKS LATER AND CAME OUT TO GET IN MY CAR AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE WOULD NOT OPEN. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO GET IN THE PASSENGER SIDE AND REACH OVER TO OPEN IT. I HAVE BEEN DOING THAT FOR 7 MO. NOW BECAUSE OF A LACK OF $700 TO FIX BOTH DOORS, AND LACK OF TIME! I AM TAKING IT IN TOMORROW TO GET THEM FIXED BECAUSE OUR DAUGHTER AND 3 GRANDCHILDREN ARE COMING THIS WEEKEND TO VISIT FOR 2 WEEKS. I BEGAN TO PANIC WHEN I REALIZED IF WE WERE IN A WRECK, NO ONE WOULD BE ABLE TO GET US OUT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, WHICH COULD BE THE ONLY AVAILABLE SIDE! MY HUSBAND CALLED KIA A FEW MONTHS AGO ABOUT THE SITUATION AND SOMEONE WAS SUPPOSED TO CALL HIM BACK, BUT THEY NEVER DID. I CALLED, BUT DID NOT HAVE THE VIN WITH ME AT THE TIME. I FIND IT INTERESTING THAT SO MANY OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO HELP US WITH THIS OBVIOUS MANUFACTURING PROBLEM, YET I READ OR SAW SOMEWHERE SOMETHING ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS SAFETY BEING A PRIORITY??? I JUST HOPE IT DOESN'T TAKE A DEATH TO GET THEM TO ACT ON THIS! I'M DOING MY BEST TO BE SURE IT ISN'T ONE OF MY LOVED ONES, BUT DO EXPECT KIA TO "MAN UP" AND REIMBURSE US! TO ANSWER YOUR OTHER QUESTIONS...THE CAR WAS STATIONARY, PARKED, WAS TOLD IT WAS SOME MECHANISM INSIDE THE DOOR. I WILL BE ABLE TO UPLOAD A REPAIR INVOICE TOMORROW AFTER THE JOB IS COMPLETE. IN THIS CASE, THEY SAY THEY WILL USE GENUINE FACTORY PARTS, BUT I'M NOT SO SURE I WANT THEM TO!!! ARE WE FACING THE SAME "TRIP" AGAIN "DOWN THE ROAD?" ARE THESE PARTS GOING TO BE ANY BETTER??? THAT REMAINS TO BE SEEN!
FROM JANUARY1, 2016 TO MARCH 20, 2016 TWO DOORS (DRIVER AND DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER) HAVE QUIT OPENING FROM THE OUTSIDE.
HAVING TROUBLE WITH SERVICE DEPT OF LOCAL DEALER REGARDING DRIVER'S SIDE AXLE AS IT ENTERS THE DRIVERS SIDE TRANSMISSION CASE. DEALER TELLS ME IT'S NORMAL FOR THIS AMOUNT OF "PLAY" - THEY SAY IT IS DESIGNED THIS WAY FOR GOING OVER BUMPS - DON'T BELIEVE THEM AT ALL AS I KNOW THAT THE CV JOINT HANDLES THE BUMPS. I KNOW THAT THE SHAFT AND THE BEARING ARE A VERY PRECISE FIT AND THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY PLAY. THERE IS A GRINDING NOISE WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND A FLUTTERING/CLICKING NOISE WHEN I POP THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AT ABOUT 50 MPH (THIS IS PROBABLY THE SPLINES ON THE END OF THE SHAFT NOT MATING INTO THE DIFFERENTIAL CORRECTLY - MISALIGNED - BECAUSE THE BEARING HAS FAILED). DEALER KEEPS TELLING US IT'S EITHER OUR BRAKES OR TIRES. THEY HAVE CHECKED THE BRAKES 4 TIMES ALREADY AND FOUND NOTHING BUT THEY DO ACKNOWLEDGE THE GRINDING NOISE IS STILL THERE. THIS VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IN THIS CONDITION AS THE SYMPTOMS KEEP GETTING WORSE. IT HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT THIS TIME FOR 6 DAYS ALREADY. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER THE 100,000 KIA DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY (VEHICLE HAS 91,000 MILES ON IT). I HAVE SENT THE VIDEO ALONG WITH THIS SAME NOTE TO NHTSA.WEBMASTER@DOT.GOV. WOULD LIKE YOUR OPINION OF WHAT THE AMOUNT OF MOVEMENT SIGNIFIES ON THE AXLE AS SHOWN IN THE VIDEO - PRETTY SURE IT IS EVIDENCE OF A FAILED BEARING (WHICH HAS LED TO FURTHER DAMAGE WITHIN TO THE DIFFERENTIAL AND SHAFT SPLINES). TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE DOORS, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR FAILED TO UNLOCK FORM THE OUTSIDE ELECTRONICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE ABOUT WHAT PART NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
CAR WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE. BACK DRIVERS SIDE DOOR JUST STOPPED WORKING. WONT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUT. NO DAMAGE OR EXCESSIVE USE. YOU CAN HEAR THE LOCK CLICKING WHEN YOU HIT THE AUTO BUTTON ON THE FRONT DOOR, BUT IT WILL NOT OPEN. KIA COMPANY STATES IT WILL NOT REPAIR BECAUSE WE ARE 2 MONTHS OVER THE 5 YEAR/60000 MILE WARRANTY. ITS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THEY WANT $1100.00 TO REPAIR.
FRONT PASSENGER DOOR CAN NOT BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE. REPAIRED ONCE AND WITHIN A WEEK DISABLED AGAIN.
AFTER EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY NOT PROPERLY LOCKING AND UNLOCKING MY DOORS AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO TAKE THE CAR OUT OF PARK. I HAD TO LITERALLY TURN OFF THE IGNITION MULTIPLE TIMES AND AFTER ABOUT 5-10 ATTEMPTS THE CAR WOULD LOCK THE DOOR AND GO INTO PARK. HOWEVER, I HAVE NOW BEEN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR NOT UNLOCKING FROM THE OUTSIDE AND THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE IS ALSO LITERALLY CUTTING MY HAND AND NOT PROPERLY OPENING THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE SC124 SHIFT ASSEMBLY DUE TO THE FEDERAL RECALL FOR THIS PART. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON SA203 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE. BUT THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $384.92 TO REPAIR THE DOOR LOCK.. (81310-2P000) $209.70 PART COST / AND $126.88 LABOR.. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD.. THE PROBLEM IS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE BROKEN, MALFUNCTIONING SHIFTER ASSEMBLY AND ANY ASSOCIATED REPAIRS SHOULD BE COVERED AS WELL BY THE DEALERSHIP. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD THAT AS A CONSUMER I SHOULD BE HELD FINANCIALLY LIABLE FOR REPAIR COSTS CAUSED BY A MECHANICAL FAILURE THAT OBVIOUSLY BROKE SEVERAL OTHER PARTS. NOT BEING ABLE TO PROPERLY ENTER AND EXIT MY VEHICLE IS A SAFELY ISSUE. I COULD VERY EASILY GET LOCKED INTO THIS CAR IF THIS ISSUE IS NOT PROPERLY REPAIRED AS THE DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM IS DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE ELECTRONIC SHIFTING ASSEMBLY. HOW AND WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO BE INCONVENIENCED OR PLACED IN DANGER BECAUSE A MANUFACTURER CHOOSES TO PICK AND CHOSE WHICH PARTS IT CHOOSES TO REPAIR AS A RESULT OF THEIR POORLY MANUFACTURED DEFECTIVE PARTS.
ORIGINAL OWNER '11 SORENTO 4CYL, AWD W/TOW PACKAGE & APPROX 88K MILES. PROBLEM 1ST NOTICED ABOUT 2 MOS AGO WHEN SEAT BELT LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING WITH AUDIBLE CLICKING COMING FROM RELAY BEHIND DASH. IT WAS DAYTIME WHEN THIS HAPPENED 1ST FEW TIMES & I COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE SEEMED TO HAPPEN AFTER STARTING CAR & WOULD GO AWAY AFTER A FEW MOMENTS OF DRIVING. RELEASING & RE-CONNECTING SEAT BELT HAD NO EFFECT. THE 1ST TIME IT HAPPENED @ NIGHT I REALIZED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS & DASH LIGHTS WOULD FLASH ON & OFF ALSO. STILL COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM, BUT BEING A MECHANIC I WATCHED FOR IT TO HAPPEN AND TRIED DIFFERENT THINGS TO SEE IF THEY HAD ANY EFFECT ON THE ISSUE. ALWAYS WOULD BEGIN AFTER INITIALLY STARTING CAR, BUT NOT DO IT MOST TIMES. THEN 3 EVENINGS AGO, I FOUND IT HAPPENING EVERY TIME I WOULD START THE CAR & WOULD EVEN DO IT AFTERWARDS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I WAS 70 MILES FROM HOME & TRIED TO GET BACK. IT DIDN'T MATTER WHETHER THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH WAS ON, OFF OR AUTO, IT WOULD STILL FLASH ALL LIGHTS & SEATBELT LIGHT W/CLICKING FROM RELAY. ON THE WAY HOME, WHILE DRIVING A RURAL ROAD, THE LIGHTS AGAIN STARTED BLINKING ON & OFF CAUSING ME TO HIT A METAL POLE A DRAINAGE DITCH THRU FARMER'S FENCE INTO HIS FIELD. ACCIDENT PUSHED METAL BUMPER (BEHIND BUMPER COVER) BACK ABOUT 12", TORE THE ENTIRE FRONT END &LIGHTS FROM CAR & BENT HOOD BACK 1 1/2 FEET AND BUCKLED IT UPWARD - ALL OF THIS WITHOUT EVER DEPLOYING THE AIRBAG.THESE PROBLEMS ARE PREVALENT IN THIS CAR AS I HAVE READ, BUT I NOW HAVE A VEHICLE WHICH DESPITE IT'S DAMAGE WILL NOW DUPLICATE THE LIGHTS GOING ON & OFF EVERY TIME THE CAR IS TURNED ON. HAVE CONTACTED KIA CORP IN HOPES THAT THEY WILL WANT TO USE MY CAR TO GET TO THE CAUSE OF THIS ISSUE & FINALLY CORRECT IT. AS A MECHANIC I VERY WELL UNDERSTAND THE NEED TO BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM TO FIND CAUSE ..... KIA NOW HAS NO EXCUSE.
THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR FAILS TO OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE, IT WORKS FROM THE INSIDE. I WAS OUT RUNNING ERRANDS, JUST GOT CAR WASHED THEN WENT INTO A STORE. I CAME BACK OUT AND DOOR WOULD NO LONGER OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE. THE WEATHER TEMPS WERE ABOVE NORMAL ABOUT 60 DEGREES. I HAD TO CRAWL THRU FROM PASSENGER SIDE TO PULL DOOR HANDLE TO OPEN DOOR.
THE BACK SEAT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WILL NOT GO BACK TO THE PROPER UPRIGHT POSITION. I PUT DOWN THE SEAT IN ORDER TO TAKE SOME MATERIALS NEEDED FOR MY JOB, WHEN I TRIED TO RETURN BACK TO THE UPRIGHT POSITION IT ONLY WENT SO FAR, NOW WHEN MY SON IS IN HIS CAR SEAT HE IS LEANING FORWARD AND A SLIGHT ANGLE. IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO HAPPEN AND I WAS HIT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND THE AIRBAG WERE TO DEPLOY IT WOULD LITERALLY HIT MY SON AT SUCH AN ANGLE AS TO POSSIBLY SERIOUSLY INJURE OR KILL HIM. I WENT TO GET IT REPLACED AND BECAUSE I HAD GONE OVER MY MILEAGE BY 1300 MILES THEY STATED THAT IT WOULD COST ME 550.00 TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY VIOLATION AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY TO GET IT REPAIRED.
I NOW HAVE 3 OUT OF 4 DOORS THAT CAN NOT BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE ONLY DOOR THAT CAN BE OPENED IS THE RIGHT REAR DOOR. KIA SAYS THEY DO NOT HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THEM WHEN THERE OBVIOUSLY IS ONE. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST FROM DEALER IS $400 A PIECE. THAT IS CRIMINAL.
DRIVERS DOOR WON'T OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. HAD ISSUE FIXED 2.5 YEARS AGO AT 55000 MILES UNDER WARRANTY. ISSUE KEPT REOCCURRING INTERMITTENTLY UNTIL NOW WHERE IT JUST WON'T OPEN.
AFTER CHANGING THE BATTERY THE AIRBAG/SRS LIGHT WILL NOT SHUT OFF. DIAGNOSTIC ERROR CODE IS B1346. THE ARE A NUMBER OF POSTINGS ONLINE ABOUT THIS WITH VERY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMERS. KIA DID A SIMILAR RECALL UNDER: 12V014000. CALLED KIA AND THEY SAID THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING.
ON SUNDAY DECEMBER 6TH 2010 AT APPROXIMATELY 10:00, I WAS TRAVELING IN MY 2011 KIA SORENTO EX. IT IS EQUIPPED WITH 2 PANORAMIC SUNROOFS ONE IN THE FRONT AND ONE IN THE REAR. THE FRONT SUNROOF IS ONLY MECHANICALLY FUNCTIONAL ROOF. WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION AND HAD A FEW SHARDS OF GLASS BLOWING INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT THE SUNROOF WAS COMPLETELY CLOSED AND THE SUNSHADE WAS PULLED FORWARD. THIS PREVENTED ME FROM BEING INJURED BY THE GLASS. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE TO ASSESS THE DAMAGE. DAMAGE ASSESSMENT: THE MAJORITY OF THE FRONT SUNROOFS GLASS WAS MISSING FROM THE MIDDLE.THERE WAS AN APPROXIMATE 2 INCH STRIP OF GLASS THAT WAS BUCKLED UPWARD STILL ATTACHED TO THE MOUNTING RAIL ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. ONE THE PASSENGER SIDE THERE WAS A LONGER PIECE STILL ATTACHED. IT WAS TRIANGULAR IN ITS SHAPE COMING TO A POINT THAT WAS APPROXIMATELY 9-10 INCHES MOVING TOWARDS THE CENTER OF THE VEHICLE. IT TOO WAS BUCKLE UPWARDS TOWARDS THE SKY. THERE WERE SCRATCHES TO THE REAR PANORAMIC SUNROOF. THE SATELLITE RADIO ANTENNA WAS MISSING. THE REAR SPOILER HAD HUNDREDS OF SCRATCHES ON IT WITH GLASS SHARDS IMPELLED IN IT. THERE WAS MINIMAL GLASS IN THE FRONT INTERIOR AND A FEW SHARDS FOUND IN THE REAR AS WELL. I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM WORK ON THIS MORNING. I WORK AS A FLIGHT PARAMEDIC AND IN MY JOB WE HAVE TO CONTINUOUSLY MONITOR THE WEATHER IN OUR AREA OUT TO A 90 MILE CIRCLE FROM OUR BASE. CONDITIONS DURING THE DAY. THE SKY WAS CLEAR AND SUNNY. THE TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE MID 50'S. WINDS WERE CALM. TRAFFIC WAS VERY LIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY. I DID NOT HAVE ANYONE IN FRONT OR BEHIND MY VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THERE WERE NO OVER HANGING LIMBS FROM TREES. IN ADDITION CONDITIONS THE PRIOR EVENING AND NIGHT WERE CLEAR, WITH TEMPERATURES ONLY DROPPING INTO THE LOWER 40'S.
I HAVE A 2011 KIA SORENTO, 106,000 MILES ON IT. FIRST I SAW A HEADLIGHT HAD BURNT OUT, I BOUGHT A NEW ONE, BY THE TIME I GOT HOME, IT WAS OUT AGAIN. MY MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE THE WIRE HARNESS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, SAID THE WIRES WERE MELTED. SOON AFTER, AS I AM DRIVING IN THE EARLY MORNINGS, I WOULD TURN ON THE RIGHT SIGNAL AND THE LIGHTS WOULD TURN OFF FOR 10 SECOND, ALL THE LIGHTS, INSIDE, OUTSIDE, BUT TURN BACK ON. IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN EVERY DAY, BUT ONCE A WEEK AT LEAST. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. TODAY, I TOUCHED THE BRIGHT LEVER AND THE CAR LIGHTS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE TURNED COMPLETELY OFF, FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS. I WAS SCARED TO DEATH AS IT WAS PITCH BLACK OUT AND I COULDN'T SEE IN FRONT OR ANYWHERE AND NO ONE COULD SEE ME. I TURNED THE CORNER AND THEY AGAIN WENT OFF, THIS TIME LONGER. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO GET MY HAZARDS ON SO I COULD PULL OFF THE ROAD AND PEOPLE AROUND COULD SEE ME. I HIT THE BRIGHTS AGAIN AND EVERYTHING CAME BACK ON. I DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY TO WORK (45 MINUTES) WITHOUT USING ANY TURN SIGNALS OR BRIGHTS. I AM SCARED TO DEATH TO GET BACK INTO THIS CAR. I TRAVEL ALOT WITH MY 4 GRANDCHILDREN IN THE CAR. THERE NEEDS TO BE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL, AS I HAVE SEEN DOZENS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME THING. THE WEBSITE DIRECTED ME TO THIS SITE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORRENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IN THE PARK POSITION, THE DRIVER AND THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOORS FAILED TO OPEN. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOCK MECHANISM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
SUDDENLY, THE PASSENGER DOOR IS NOT OPENING. SOMETIMES IT IS OPEN, SOMETIMES IT IS NOT. THERE IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT FOR THIS
THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE DOOR OPENS FROM THE INSIDE AND THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE APPEARS FINE BUT THE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN.
MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 2 WEEKS. I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE HEADLIGHTS. I HAD THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEAD LAMP ASSEMBLY REPLACED AND THEN THE PASSENGER SIDE WENT OUT DUE TO A BULB ISSUE IT BURNT OUT. I TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER AND HE SAID IT WAS NOT A KIA BULB. THAT IS RIDICULOUS. BULBS ARE THE SAME WATTAGE. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT WAS STUPID IT SHOULD BURN. THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM EITHER THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. THERE ARE LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND THE KIA DEALERS ARE REPLACING THOSE THAT ARE UNDER WARRANTY, AND BRAND NEW ONES (DOOR ACTUATOR PROBLEM). I HAVE A 2011 KIA SORENTO AND MY AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON WHEN I TURNED ON THE VEHICLE. I HAVE NOT YET TAKEN IT TO A DEALERSHIP BUT I AM SEEING A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. WHY HASN'T KIA RECALLED THIS? DO THEY REALLY NEED A DEATH IN ORDER TO FIX THE PROBLEM?
THE BULBS FOR THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN "BURNING OUT" AT THE RATE OF ONCE A MONTH. LAST MONTH, THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY PLUGIN TO THE BULB WAS MELTED DUE TO "A POOR CONTACT" OR SHORT IN THE WIRING". UNFORTUNATELY THEY SAID I NEED AN ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (ABOUT A $400 PART AND $250 LABOR) AS THEY WON'T JUST SELL THE CONNECTION PLUG. FRUSTRATED I FOUND A GREAT MECHANIC WHO CUT AND SPLICED A NEW CONNECTION PLUG AND IT SEEMS TO BE WORKING. HOWEVER THE CONCERN IS THAT THERE IS STILL A "SHORT" IN THE WIRING AND WILL EVENTUALLY DO THE SAME THING TO THE NEW PLUG. I HAVE NOW HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE OTHER SIDE AND AM HOPING THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAS FOUND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. THE OTHER COMPLAINT IS THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED BY THE ANY WARRANTY. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSE AND I STILLHAVE NOT SEEN A RECALL FROM KIA. THIS IS MY 2ND KIA AND I AM RETHINKING ABOUT BUYING ANOTHER UNLESS THIS ISSUE IS RESOLVED.
PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. DEALER SAID IT IS NOT A RECALL AND IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. ORIGINALLY THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $500.00 TO TAKE THE DOOR APART AND FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT ENDED BY SAYING THEY WOULD DISCOUNT THE COST DOWN TO $150.00. DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE YET BECAUSE I AM WAITING ON THE PART, BUT I AM ANGRY BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR DO THIS BEFORE. CAME OUT TO GO HOME AND IT WOULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR. NO ONE TRIED TO BREAK IN - AGAIN, THE LATCH LOOKS FINE, NOT DAMAGED JUST QUIT OPENING THE DOOR. THERE IS ONLY ONE OTHER DOOR WITH A KEY ENTRY SO IF IT STOPS OPENING THE DOOR I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET IN THE VEHICLE AND WILL BE STUCK IN THE PARKING LOT, AT NIGHT. WHAT IF IT STARTS NOT OPENING FROM THE INSIDE AND I CANNOT GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT BUSTING A WINDOW? SERIOUSLY, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS NOT ISOLATED - PAGES OF COMPLAINTS. RECENTLY MY 2011 KIA SORENTO EX WILL NOT SHUT DOWN. WHEN I PRESS THE ENGINE START/STOP BUTTON THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF BUT THE DASHBOARD, NAVIGATION TOUCHSCREEN & LIGHTS ALL REMAIN ON. WE PURCHASED A USED 2011 KIA SORENTO FROM AN INDIVIDUAL. THE VEHICLE HAD ROUGHLY 19,000 MILES. THE CAR WAS FINE UNTIL APPROXIMATELY 35,000 MILES. WHILE LEAVING FROM A STATIONARY POSITION, ON THE INTERSTATE OR JUST MAIN ROADS, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING, LURCHING, AND AT TIMES WOULD NOT ENGAGE. WE TOOK THE CAR TO OUR LOACAL KIA DEALER AND WERE TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AT ROUGHLY 45,000 WE AGAIN TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND GOT THE SAME RESPONSE. AT 58,000 THE CAR WOULD HARDLY DRIVE SO WE TOOK IT BACK IN. THE DEALER TOLD US THAT THE COMPUTER WASN'T GIVING THEM ANY CODES BUT COULD TELL THERE WAS A PROBLEM. AFTER GOING BACK AND FORTH, KIA REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION. NOW AT 78,000 MILES, WE'RE HAVING A O TAKE IT IN FOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND THE CAR IS MAKING TERRIBLE NOISES. WE TOOK IT OUT O THE DEALER AND WERE TOLD AT FIRST THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. LATER IN THE AFTERNOON THEY CAME BACK AND SAID OUR INTERMEDIATE DRIVE SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. COST $598. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, I SAW YOU THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY MODEL YEAR CARS, BUT MY VIN NUMBER DID NOT FALL INTO THE RECALL. HOW CAN THEY TELL ME THAT THESE ISSUES HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL FOR THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT!?!? THESE FAILURES FIT THE RECALL DETAILS EXACTLY. WHY WEREN'T THE BAD SHAFTS CAUGHT AND REPLACED WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED? I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT THE RECALL AND WAS TOLD MY VIN DID NOT FIT THE RECALL. I CALLED KIA AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN HAS NO OPEN RECALLS. BASICALLY AGAIN MY "VIN" WAS NOT IN THE RECALL. ALL THE EXACT SAME ISSUES, BUT THE PROBLEMS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ORIGINAL 2011 RECALL. KIA/HYUNDAI ARE THE ONLY CAR MANUFACTURERS THAT DO NOT TRANSFER THEIR 100,000 MILE 10 YEAR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY TO A 2ND OWNER UNLESS IT'S PURCHASED THROUGH A DEALERSHIP. IT'S FRUSTRATING THAT A LARGE CAR MANUFACTURER WILL NOT JUST DO THE RIGHT THING.
THE AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT IS ON AND THE DEALERSHIP IS SAYING I NEED A NEW PASSENGER AIRBAG WEIGHT SENSOR. THE COST IS $1,800! KIA PREVIOUSLY RECALLED THE 2007 AND 2008 MODELS BUT THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING ON NEWER MODELS AS WELL. IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. PLEASE CONSIDER A RECALL.
THE EXTERIOR DRIVE DOOR HANDLE STOPPED UNLATCHING THE DOOR. WHEN YOU REMOVE THE EXTERIOR HANDLE, THERE IS A CABLE IT PULLS ON TO UNLATCH THE DOOR. I PULLED ON THE CABLE AND IT HAS PULLED LOOSE FROM THE LATCH END. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING ON THE INTERNET. THE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL COVER IS METAL AND PROHIBITS YOU FROM REACHING THE LATCH. THE NEW LATCH ASSEMBLY IS $90.00 BUT SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKEN. ALMOST ALL OF THE ASSEMBLE AND DOOR HANDLE ARE MADE OF PLASTIC. PRIOR TO THIS, THE LEFT REAR DOOR HANDLE FELL OF GOING DOWN THE ROAD. THE PLASTIC PIECE THAT KEEPS THE HANDLE IN PLACE BROKEN AROUND THE BRASS THREADING THE BOLT HOLDS IT ON WITH. WHEN THAT PIECE FELL OF JUST THE VIBRATION GOING DOWN THE ROAD ALLOWED THE DOOR HANDLE TO FALL OFF.

AFTER JUMP STARTING THE 2ND BATTERY INSTALLED BY KIA IN 5 YEARS 4 MONTHS 21 DAYS ON MY KIA SORENTO, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND ASKED IF THIS MEANT THAT MY AIR BAGS WOULD NOT WORK, THEY SAID THEY THOUGHT THAT MIGHT BE THE CASE SO I HAD THEM LOOK AT IT. I WAS TOLD THAT THE AIR BAG MODULE ASSY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT 37,697 MILES AT THE COST OF $864.45 AND OF COURSE MY CAR WAS 4 MONTHS AND 21 DAYS OUT OF WARRANTY. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT SOMETHING THIS CRITICAL FOR SAFETY SHOULD NEVER GO OUT AND CERTAINLY BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY THIS CLOSE TO 5 YEARS. MY STOP LAMP SWITCH WENT OUT 10/11/2011, 8,031 MILES AND WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY AND THEN ON 4/1/2013 IT WAS RECALLED. I HOPE THEY DO NOT WAIT THIS LONG FOR THE AIRBAG MODULE TO BE RECALLED AND I WOULD HOPE THEY WOULD ALSO REIMBURSE FOR THE REPLACEMENT THAT I HAVE PAID FOR.
