PURCHASED NEW VEHICLE WITH 0 MILES,DROVE 134 MILES ON 2ND DAY AND VEHICLE BROKE DOWN-FUEL PUMP FAILURE.VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER-AFTER 10 DAYS,VEHICLE WAS READY TO DRIVE HOME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2011 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN ILLUMINATING. THE CONTACT ALSO BEGAN TO SEE SPARKS COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND A FIRE BEGAN UNDER THE ENGINE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT APPEARED TO THE SCENE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS ALSO FILED BUT NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE IN THE PROCESS OF DIAGNOSING THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 800.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS JUMP STARTED THE FOLLOWING DAY AND TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE THROTTLE WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE HAD SINCE RECURRED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ALARM SYSTEM WOULD INADVERTENTLY SOUND. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD EXPERIENCE DIFFICULTY STARTING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE A FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,990.
DRIVING APPROX 35 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD POP AND NOISE THEN THE CAR STARTED GRINDING AND TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP. NO GEARS, CAR LOCKED UP AND CAME TO A HALT. COULD NOT GO BACKWARD OR FORWARD WHEN PUT INTO GEAR, JUST HAD A LOUD GRINDING SOUND. SOUND WAS SO LOUD I THOUGHT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FALLEN OUT. BEFORE THIS HAPPENED I NOTICED THAT WHEN THE CAR HAD BEEN TURNED OFF FOR A WHILE THEN STARTED AND PUT INTO REVERSE THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNKING SOUND, ALMOST AS IF YOU HAD TRIED TO PUT THE CAR INTO GEAR WITHOUT PUTTING YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE FIRST AND IT WOULD LEAP INTO GEAR.
WE PURCHASED/LEASED A NEW 2011 SORENTO V6 AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY STARTED EXPERIENCING THE OCCASIONAL HESITATION PROBLEM WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC FROM A STOP. ON A COUPLE OCCASIONS IT PUT US IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS WE WERE CROSSING 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO COURTESY KIA IN BRANDON FL. 4 TIMES, THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. FINALLY THEY GOT US A 2012 NEAR IDENTICAL SORENTO V6, AND ON THE 3RD DAY HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE W/50 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. WE NOW HAVE 500+ ON IT AND HAVE HAD A TOTAL OF 7 SIMILAR SITUATIONS. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS I'M THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS AND THAT THEY AREN'T AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH I TALKED W/A CUSTOMER OF THEIRS W/A 2011 SORENTO AND HE SAID HE AND HIS WIFE HAVE THE SAME ISSUES W/THEIRS. WE ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS SITUATION, BUT OTHER THAN THAT WE LIKE THE VEHICLE & GET LOTS OF COMPLIMENTS ON IT, BUT I AM ALSO LETTING OTHERS KNOW OF OUR EXPERIENCES. ITS OUR FIRST VENTURE FROM GM, AND IT WILL LIKELY BE OUR LAST. ADDITIONALLY, THE 2011 WAS GETTING THE ADVERTISED FUEL MILEAGE, THE 2012 HAS NOT GOTTEN ANY BETTER THAN 17.5 ON THE HIGHWAY OR IN TOWN. WHEN WE TURNED IN THE 2011 THEY CHARGED ME $2,500 (MONEY THAT WE WERE TO GET BACK FROM KIA IN THE DEAL) WHICH I THOUGHT WAS REALLY OUT OF LINE. I ADMIT WE PUT 5,000 MILES ON IT BUT $.50 PER MILE IS A BIT MUCH, PLUS I HAD ADDED HEAT & LUMBAR IN THE SEATS AND TINTED WINDOWS. THIS IS TRULY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND VERY DISAPPOINTING. I CAN'T HELP BUT WONDER WHAT KIA & THE DEALERSHIPS WILL DO WHEN SOME IS SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED AS A RESULT OF THIS PROBLEM THAT THEY CAN'T FIND OR EVEN ADMIT IS HAPPENING.!? JJ (NOTE: THE VIN PROVIDED IS FOR THE 2012 KIA SORENTO). *TR
FROM POINT OF PURCHASE (NOVEMBER 2010) THE VEHICLE ALWAYS HAD A HARD START, THE SEAT BELT WAS INCORRECTLY INSTALLED AND THE GAS LID FAILS TO OPEN WITHOUT MANUAL PRODDING. IN APRIL 2012 THE ENGINE FAILED TO START, AND THEN THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES THEREAFTER. THE DEALERSHIP CHANGED THE BATTERY AND SERVICE THE VEHICLE. IN THE FOLLOWING MONTHS A SERIES OF ISSUES CONTINUED, WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP STOPPED WORKING, FAILURE START, LOUD KNOCKING SOUND IN THE ENGINE WHILE IDLE AND DRIVING, AND THEN THE CAR STARTED TO STALL AND THRUST HARD FORWARD. THE CAR WAS SERVICED AGAIN, OIL CHANGED, THE CHANGED THE PUMP AND FILTERS, ALL REPORTED PROBLEMS PERSISTED THROUGH 2013. FOR THREE MONTHS THE CAR REMAINED IN THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE SHOP WHERE THE ENGINE WAS SERVICED, AND SOME ?TAPPETS? WERE REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP CRACKED THE ENGINE COVER, REPLACED IT, WITHOUT INFORMING ME. ALL ENGINE, FAIL START, AND WINDSHIELD PUMP ISSUES CONTINUES TO PERSIST TO DATE (SEPTEMBER 2013) DESPITE MULTIPLE SERVICES.
WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL FOR NO APPARENT REASON EVEN THOUGH THE DOWNHILL ASSIST SWITCH IS TURNED OFF, THE CAR STARTS BRAKING BY ITSELF AS IF THE HILL BRAKE ASSIST SWITCH WAS TURNED ON. THIS HAPPENS MOST OF THE TIME AND ALMOST CAUSED A CRASH FROM SOMEONE HITTING MY REAR END SINCE THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT COME ON. *TR
VEHICLE HAS A CONSTANT PULL TO RIGHT,EVEN AFTER ALIGNMENT.RUINED A SET OF MICHELIN RADIALS IN 6K MILES. ALSO, RELATED OR NOT, VEHICLE HAS A VERY HARD RIDE FOR IT'S TYPE-HAVE EXPERIENCED REAR WHEEL HOP WHEN EXITING HIGHWAY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH IN CLEAR LANE ON HIGHWAY ON 04/08/11 WHEN A VERY LOUD "BANG" WAS HEARD IN ENGINE, SUV LURCHED VIOLENTLY AND ENGINE WHINED NOTICEABLY. IT WAS IMMEDIATELY NOTICEABLE THAT THE ENGINE WAS LOSING ACCELERATION POWER AND I PULLED OVER. WHEN STOPPED, I PUT SUV INTO PARK AND NOTICED IT LURCHED. THE VEHICLE LURCHED WHENEVER THE SHIFTER WAS MOVED FROM P TO R TO N TO D AND BACK. IT WAS READILY APPARENT THE VEHICLE HAD A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. 2011 KIA SORENTO WAS PURCHASED NEW, AND HAD 10,000 MILES ON IT AT TIME OF OCCURRENCE. VEHICLE DID NOT SHIFT OR DRIVE CORRECTLY AFTERWARDS. *TR
I WAS PARKING MY 2011 KIA SORENTO TO GET TO WORK AND TRIED TO PUT THE GEAR IN REVERSE. THE GEAR WOULD NOT GO PAST NEUTRAL. I WAS ABLE TO PARK BUT HAD TO KEEP THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL AND APPLY THE MANUAL BRAKES. *TR

DRIVING FROM PALM SPRINGS TO LOS ANGELES ON HIGHWAY 10, A VERY LOUD CLUNK HEARD BENEATH THE DRIVERS SEAT AND VEHICLE LOST POWER BUT CONTINUED TO REV. SLOWLY RECOVERED. ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER, AT SPEED OF 65 IN TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY, ANOTHER LOUD GRINDING CLUNK HEARD SOMEWHERE BENEATH DRIVER'S SEAT. VEHICLE AGAIN LOST POWER BUT CONTINUED TO REV. BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE IS THAT IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS SUDDENLY DROPPING FROM 5TH GEAR TO 1ST GEAR. BUT THE GEAR SHIFT WAS NOT TOUCHED. THIS HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. I SEE THERE ARE DOZENS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS REGISTERED ON THIS SITE. PLEASE TAKE ACTION BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT. *TR
THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT BUT A REPORT OF DEFECTIVE KIA SORENTO. WE PURCHASED AN LX V6 SORENTO ON APRIL 3RD. CAR WAS SOLD AS NEW WITH 250 MILES ON IT (WE WERE TOLD THAT MILEAGE WAS RESULT OF TEST DRIVING WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE UNTRUE). WITHIN 17 HOURS AND WITHIN 25 MILES AND ONLY THE 2ND TIME BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THE CAR, WE EXPERIENCED SEVERE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES TOTAL OF DRIVING (ACTUALLY FIVE MINUTES AFTER HAVING PARKED TO PICK UP KIDS) AND AFTER 1 RED LIGHT, THE CAR STALLED AND THEN LURCHED FORWARD VIOLENTLY, REPEATEDLY. IMMEDIATELY DROVE THE CAR HOME AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO BACK UP INTO THE GARAGE FOUND THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED DEALER AND SALESPERSON CAME TO HOME AND OBSERVED PROBLEM, THEREAFTER TAKING CAR TO SERVICE. ACCORDING TO DEALERSHIP, SERVICE CLAIMED THAT PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY COMPUTER AND WAS FIXED. WE RETURNED THE CAR WITHIN 17 HOURS OF PURCHASE AND REFUSED TO TAKE IT BACK. AFTER MUCH WRANGLING (AND DENIAL BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT HAD EVER HAD THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM), CAR WAS REPLACED WITH ANOTHER NEW CAR. WE HAVE NOT OBSERVED PROBLEM IN NEW CAR BUT FROM COMPLAINTS, I AM GRAVELY CONCERNED. PROBLEM IS AN IMMEDIATE AND SERIOUS THREAT TO SAFETY HAZARD. IT IS MY HOPE THAT NHTSA WILL ACT IMMEDIATELY. I HAD TWO CHILDREN IN CAR AT TIME AND ON MY WAY TO PICK UP 4 MORE. HAD THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON A FREEWAY OR CONDITIONS WHERE THERE WERE MANY ON THE ROAD, I BELIEVE THE CONSEQUENCES WOULD HAVE BEEN DIRE. *TR
2001 KIA SORENTO. CONSUMER STATES ALL LATE MODELS VEHICLES SOLD IN AMERICA TODAY BY DEFAULT FLASH SIDE LIGHTS UPON EACH REPEATED DEPRESSION OF THE KEY PAD EXCEPT HIS NEW KIA SORENTO *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED FLASHING UPON FIRST DEPRESSION OF THE KEY PAD WAS INSUFFICIENT, ESPECIALLY WHEN TRYING TO FIND THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT IN A LARGE DIMLY LIT PARKING LOT. *JB
AFTER THE FIRST DEALER OIL CHANGE I BEGAN GETTING LIFTER NOISE ON ENGINE START UP THAT WOULD LAST FOR MINUTES. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE. DEALER REFUSES TO AKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND NOW I HAVE PUT A NON-OP ON MY BRAND NEW 2011 SORENTO BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. TRIED TO GET THIS RESOLVED WITH A LAWYER AND THE COMPANY REFUSED TO TAKE THE CAR BACK. I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO RETAIN A LEMON LAW ATTORNEY TO GET THIS RESOLVED. KIA MOTORS DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR WARRANTY. MY CAR WAS IN AND OUT OF DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS WITH AN ARRAY OF PROBLEMS. THE INTERIOR CLOTH AROUND THE REAR HATCH IS COMING APART AND THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES FOR IT AND IT WAS NEVER FIXED. THE LAST DEALER SAID THAT THEY HAVE TO GET "SPECIAL PERMISSION" TO FIX THIS EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. THE BRAKES ARE GETTING VERY SPONGY,AND THEY ARE STILL NOT FIXED. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR OVER 70 DAYS ON AND OFF WITH MOST OF MY COMPLAINTS BEING IGNORED. ONE OF MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINTS WAS A GLARE OFF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THAT BLINDS THE DRIVER ON SUNNY DAYS. I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR WHEN I WAS MOMENTARILY BLINDED BY THE "CHROME RINGS" AROUND THE CLUSTER WHILE FLASHED IN THE EYES AS I WAS GOING AROUND A CURVE. THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IT WAS AN "ENGINEERING" PROBLEM. THE BLUETOOTH STILL DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY,AND I AM STILL GETTING WARNING LIGHTS THAT GO ON AND OFF,INCLUDING LOW TIRE PRESSURE (WHEN THE TIRES ARE FINE) AS WELL AS AN EMISSIONS LIGHT AND A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT . THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR AND IT IS PARKED BECAUSE OF THEM. THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE,AND I SUBMIT THAT THE COMPANY KNOWS A LOT MORE ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS THAN THEY ARE LETTING ON.
AFTER STOPPING TO PAYING BRIDGE TOLL, HEARD A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHICH SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING FEEL OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE OUR 2011 KIA SORENTO. FROM THAT POINT ON THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY COAST. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT AS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC WERE MERGING AND LUCKILY THERE WAS A PARKING LOT JUST BEFORE GETTING ON THE BRIDGE. WE CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO KIA DEALERSHIP AND TRANSMISSION IS BEING REPLACED. A RENTAL CAR WAS PROVIDED, BUT IS ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS...THE REPAIR IS SUPPOSED TO ONLY TAKE A WEEK...NOT SURE HOW I FEEL ABOUT THE VEHICLE NOW.....THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL... *TR
TRANSMISSION BROKEN FOR THIRD TIME. WE CAN NOW DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM CONSISTENTLY BY PARKING ON AN INCLINE, PUTTING THE 2011 KIA SORENTO IN DRIVE AND ATTEMPTING TO TAKE OFF, THE VEHICLE GRINDS AND THEN SUDDENLY ACCELERATES. WE ARE TAKING VEHICLE INTO DEALER FOR THE 4TH TIME. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO GRIND AND SURGE FORWARD, ONCE CAUSING WIFE TO NEARLY JUMP PEDESTRIAN SIDEWALK WITH HER MOTHER IN VEHICLE. *TR
CRUISE CONTROL BROKEN FOR 3RD TIME. CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK, HAS ALREADY HAD CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH REPLACED ONCE. TAKING INTO DEALER FOR THIRD TIME AND IRONICALLY, THE DAY WE PICKED 2011 KIA SORENTO UP TO HAVE THE CRUISE CONTROL FIXED FOR THE SECOND TIME, IT DID NOT WORK WITH DEALER STATING "COULD NOT DUPLICATE CUSTOMER'S CONCERN." WHAT IF WE ALL DID OUR JOB THAT WAY? IS THIS SITE, PAID FOR BY US CITIZENS, JUST FOR BLOGGING OR DOES THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AND SAFETY ADMINISTRATION HAVE ANY TEETH? ITS ABOUT TIME FOR A RECALL ON THE 2011 KIA SORENTO FOR TRANSMISSION, SUDDEN ACCELERATION, CRUISE CONTROL, STEERING - PULLING TO THE RIGHT, AND OTHER PROBLEMS THE 2011 KIA SORENTO HAS THAT ARE DANGERS TO THE PUBLIC AT LARGE. *TR
AFTER COMING HOME FROM WORK MY DAUGHTER SAID HER CAR WAS MAKING A STRANGE NOISE. SHE ASKED ME TO TAKE IT FOR A TEST DRIVE TO SEE IF I COULD TELL WHAT WAS WRONG. AFTER STARTING THE CAR I PLACED THE TRANSMISSION IN REVERSE. AT THAT POINT I NOTICED A LOUD NOISE AND FELT A STRONG BUMP. AFTER BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND NOTICED THE SAME NOISE. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTED AS I STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION I NOTICED THE NOISE AGAIN. AFTER DRIVING ABOUT A MILE I WENT TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP SIGN, WE HEARD A LOUD NOISE, FELT A BUMP, AND THEN HEARD A VERY LOUD GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. AT THAT POINT THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT GO ANY WHERE. WE WERE ABLE TO COST TO A SAFE LOCATION ALONG THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 KIA SORENTO. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO PULL INTO THE RIGHT DIRECTION WITHOUT INTENT. THE FAILURE WAS CONSISTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 550.
TRANSMISSION FAILED ON A 2011 KIA SORENTO WITH 22K MILES ON IT. WE WERE PULLING OUT INTO AN INTERSECTION WHEN IT COMPLETELY LOST POWER. THE ONLY WARNING THAT I HAVE SEEN IN REFERENCE TO A POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION ISSUE IS THAT THE CAR IDLES HIGH (AT ABOUT 3500 RPM) IN THE MORNING. THIS WAS REPORTED TO KIA BUT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE IT. AS OF NOW, THE CAR IS AT THE DEALERSHIP WAITING ON A NEW TRANSMISSION. *TR
2ND EVENT, UNCOMMANDED DOWNSHIFT FROM 6TH GEAR TO 4TH GEAR AT SPEED. TRANSMISSION THEN LOCKS IN 4TH GEAR UNTIL SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED. VERY VIOLENT EVENT WHEN IT OCCURS, WITH AN INSTANTANEOUS BANG AND CORRESPONDING IMMEDIATE LOSS OF SPEED. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING FROM COLUMBUS OHIO TO TOLEDO OHIO ON A BUSINESS TRIP. THE TRIP STARTED OUT NORMALLY, BUT WHEN I ARRIVED IN TOLEDO AND PULLED OFF AT AN I-75 EXIT, MY TRANSMISSION FAILED AS I WAS EXITING. DID NOT HAVE ANY FORWARD MOTION AT THE EXIT AND HEARD ONLY GRINDING SOUNDS COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION WHEN I TRIED TO MOVE. ENDED UP HAVING IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST KIA DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION, BUT I'M HEARING A STRANGE WHINE COMING FROM THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING AT 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. THIS ISSUE NEEDS A RECALL FROM KIA. *TR
I HAD JUST LEFT WORK AND DROVE ABOUT TWO BLOCKS, STOPPED AT STOP SIGN, THEN PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR WHEN I HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THEN A GRINDING NOISE. THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 KIA SORENTO FROM ARKANSAS TO INDIANA. I STOPPED OFF TO GET GAS AND FELT LIKE SOMEONE BUMPED ME IN THE REAR END WHEN I CAME TO A STOP. NEEDLESS TO SAY IT DIDN'T MAKE IT TO THE NEXT DAY. AS SOON AS I GOT OFF THE INTERSTATE (THANKFULLY AT MY EXIT) THE TRANSMISSION WENT COMPLETELY OUT. I THEN HAD TO CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY HAD TO TOW IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE NEXT DAY I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT THAT THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE TO PUT A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION IN MY VEHICLE. I WAS PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR UNTIL THE SERVICE WAS COMPLETE. THE THING WAS I WAS ONLY IN TOWN FOR A LONG WEEKEND AND HAD TO GET BACK TO ARKANSAS. THEY TOLD ME THAT I COULD DRIVE THE RENTAL CAR BACK TO ARKANSAS BUT WOULD HAVE TO COME GET THE SORENTO WHEN IT WAS READY. (THEY WOULD NOT SHIP THE SORENTO TO ME) IT DID END UP WORKING OUT OK, MY MOTHER AND FATHER INLAW PICKED UP THE SORENTO WHEN IT WAS FIXED AND I DROVE ONE OF THEIR VEHICLES DOWN TO ARKANSAS. WHILE DRIVING WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 60 MPH AND TRANSMISSION IN THE DRIVE POSITION, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DOWN-SHIFTED INTO 4TH GEAR AND HELD THAT POSITION WITHOUT SHIFTING MANUALLY OR AUTOMATICALLY. THE SUDDEN SHIFTING OF THE TRANSMISSION WOULD BE SIMILAR TO REVVING AN ENGINE IN NEUTRAL AND THEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE WITH THE RPM'S VERY HIGH AND THE SENSATION WAS A LOUD THUD/THUMP SOUNDING LIKE I JUMPED A CURB, WITH A SIMILAR SENSATION FROM THE DRIVING POSITION. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE, BUT COULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF 4TH GEAR EVEN WHEN I STOPPED AT A SAFE LOCATION A FEW MILES UP THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO MANUALLY PUT THE VEHICLE IN N, R AND P. I PARKED THE VEHICLE AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. I WAITED 15 SECONDS, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND PUT IT BACK IN DRIVE. AT THIS POINT THE ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION AND SHIFTED FINE. NO UNUSUAL NOISES OR CHANGES WERE NOTED. I WAS ON THE PHONE WITH THE SALES PERSON WHO SOLD US THE VEHICLE AND HE MENTIONED SOMETHING ABOUT A COMPUTER GLITCH THAT HANDLES AUTOMATIC SHIFTING. THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION HAS APPROX 3200 MILES ON IT AND THIS IS THE FIRST MAJOR CONCERN I HAVE EXPERIENCED. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD THE AXLE AND TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY WENT OUT. THIS CAUSED VEHICLE TO COME TO A SUDDEN ABRUPT STOP. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FATAL ACCIDENT IF TRAVELING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED OR ON AN INTERSTATE. WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED, YOU HAD NO POWER TO THE VEHICLE AND IT COULD NOT EVEN COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. DEALER STATED IT WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT CAUSED BY A BOLT FROM THE AXLE HITTING THE TRANSMISSION AND SAID THEY FORWARDED PHOTOS TO KIA CORPORATE. I CONTACTED KIA CORPORATE AND ASKED FOR A WRITTEN EXPLANATION AND ASSURANCE THAT THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM WOULD NOT HAPPEN TO US AGAIN AND THEY DECLINED TO PROVIDE ANYTHING IN WRITING. I PURCHASED A 2011 SORENTO EX IN 2/2010. I WAS TOLD AT THE TIME THAT THE STEERING, WHEN IT PULLED TO THE RIGHT, WAS NORMAL FOR THIS TYPE OF SUSPENSION. I DEALT WITH IT FOR A LONG TIME. THEN, I NOTICED ONE DAY A LOUD CLANKING NOISE COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V258000 (POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT) BUT THE DEALER STATED THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,820.
TRANSMISSION ON MY 2011 KIA SORENTO WENT WHEN I WAS EXITING A ROADWAY. CAR JUST WOULDN'T MOVE FORWARD ANYMORE. ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. *TR
ON JAN 12,2011 I WAS COMING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY. I TRIED TO APPLY BRAKES AND IT FELT LIKE THEY WEREN'T WORKING. THE DRIVEWAY WAS ICE COVERED SO I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS THE ICY ROADS. THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN OR STOP. THE CAR WAS SLIDING TOWARDS THE EDGE OF THE HILL, I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO TRY TO AVOID GOING OVER THE HILL AND THE TAIL OF THE CAR WENT OVER AND THEN WE ROLLED. IT ROLLED PROBABLY TWICE AND CAME TO REST ON ITS TOP. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THAT I HAD FELT THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. AFTER THE WRECK I SAW THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS CAR AND THEN I THOUGHT, MAYBE IT WASN'T MY IMAGINATION AFTER ALL. *TR
WHEN TAKEN TO A SPEED OVER 35 MPH FELT A DRIFT TO THE RIGHT IN THE STEERING. WHEN TAKEN TO HIGHER SPEEDS, IT BECAME PHYSICALLY NECESSARY TO HOLD STEERING WHEEL TIGHTLY IN ORDER TO KEEP VEHICLE FROM GOING TO THE RIGHT. STEERING SEEMED EXTREMELY TIGHT AND SOMEWHAT JERKY WHEN CORNERING MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO GET A SMOOTH TURN. STEERING WHEEL DID NOT SIT STRAIGHT WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHT. FRONT WHEELS NOT POINTING AT SAME ANGLE WHEN PARKED. NOTICED ODOR AFTER DRIVING 15 MILES THAT CAN ONLY BE EXPLAINED AS A "BURNING BRAKES" ODOR. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER REPAIR DEPARTMENT WHERE THEY PERFORMED AN ALIGNMENT; HOWEVER, THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND WE WERE THEN TOLD THAT KIA WAS SAYING NEW TIRES WOULD FIX THIS KIA KNOWN ISSUE. THE TIRES WERE ORDERED AND PUT ON WITHIN THE NEXT FEW DAYS, BUT REPLACING THE TIRES DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. AT THIS TIME, WE WERE MADE AWARE THAT OUR LOAN HAD NOT ACTUALLY FUNDED YET, SO WE ASKED FOR A CONTRACT RECESSION DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE WAS A KNOWN, NON REPAIRABLE ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED CONTRACT RECESSION. WE WERE TOLD WE WOULD BE CONTACTED IF KIA CAME UP WITH A SOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE. WE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP 2 DAYS LATER TELLING THEM TO CALL US WHEN IT WAS FIXED. KIA CUSTOMER SERVICE CALLED 2 DAYS AFTER WE DROPPED THE VEHICLE OFF THE SECOND TIME TO LET US KNOW THAT NEW SPRINGS WERE NEEDED, HAD BEEN ORDERED, AND WOULD BE AT THE SHOP THE NEXT DAY. THAT WAS NEARLY A WEEK AGO AND WE HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM ANYONE ABOUT THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP HAS NOW DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE IS PERFORMING AS IT SHOULD BE, EVEN THOUGH IT STILL DRIFTS TO THE RIGHT. TURNING TO THE RIGHT FEELS NORMAL, WHILE TURNING TO THE LEFT FEELS AS IF I AM FIGHTING TO KEEP THE WHEEL FROM SNAPPING BACK TOWARDS THE RIGHT. KIA WILL NOT LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM ANY FURTHER ON THIS VEHICLE.
