THE VEHICLE, A 2012 KIA SORENTO WITH 95719 MILES, IS UP TO DATE ON ALL RECALLS AS IT IS REGULARLY SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP. WHILE ENTERING A BUSY HIGHWAY ON 6/13/2020, AND ACCELERATING PAST 45MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CHECK ENGINE AND BATTERY LIGHTS CAME ON, MAKING IT SEEM LIKE THE CAR WASN'T EVEN STARTED. WE WERE ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OFF TO THE SHOULDER, PUT IT INTO PARK, AND TRIED TO START IT AGAIN. THE CAR ACTED LIKE NORMAL ON STARTING (STARTER TURNED, POWER WAS AVAILABLE) FOR EVERYTHING BUT THE ENGINE TURNING ON. WE CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND THE FAMILY MECHANIC. THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY WERE FINE, NO ERROR CODES WERE DETECTED ON THE CAN BUS READER INSTRUMENT, SO EVERYTHING SEEMED NORMAL ON THE COMPUTER. AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO START THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO START IN NEUTRAL. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DEADLY STALLING FAULT FOR A VEHICLE TO HAVE ON ANY ROADWAY. *TR
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. REPLACED ENGINE 2-3 YEARS AGO FOR THE SAME REASON, TURNED INTO LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP AND THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE SAYING ITS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP IS REFUSING TO DO A FULL INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE. CONTACTED KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND THEY'RE ALSO REFUSING TO LET DEALERSHIP PERFORM A FULL INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE TO DETERMINE CAUSE OF FAILURE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT MONROEVILLE KIA SINCE 06/12/2020 AND THEY HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY POOR IN KEEPING US UPDATED OF PROGRESS OR NOT. KIA RECALL NUMBER SC147 NHTSA NUMBER 17V224000

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V626000 (POWER TRAIN). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GUNTHER KIA (1900 S STATE RD 7, FORT LAUDERDALE, FL 33317) TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE SAME DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS A ONE-TIME FREE REPAIR. NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER HOWEVER, THE PHONE NUMBER PROVIDED WAS FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE LOSS MOTIVE POWER AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DUTCH MILLER KIA LOCATED AT 335 MCCORKLE AVE, CHARLESTON, WV 25303 HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
WHEN TURNING BLINKER ON HEADLIGHTS WILL FLASH A FEW TIMES THEN TURN OFF VERY COMPLETELY SO DANGEROUS
In 2012 my sister bought new 2012 Kia Sorento from Caribbean Auto Mart in St Thomas VI. About a year ago, the horn stopped working and the air bag light has been on for some time now clearly indicating a possible problem with the clock spring assembly in the steering column mentioned in the recall notice attached. On contacting the dealer, Caribbean Auto Mart, she was told that they were no longer a Kia dealer and that it was not their responsibility to fix the problem. The local Jiffy Lube apparently is doing warranty work for Kia here now but they refuse to fix it without authorization from Kia. On contacting Kia, they refuse to even acknowledge the existence of this vehicle. They say they have no matching VIN. We asked if they would just send the part and I would install it. They refused this as well. I’m concerned that my sister is still driving this vehicle with defective safety equipment with no apparent way to resolve the situation. Any help you could provide in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A SHOPPING PARKING LOT. WHEN WE RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE, I - THE CAR OWNER - UNLOCKED THE CAR WITH THE FOB FOR PASSENGERS TO LOAD THE VEHICLE. AS THE REAR PASSENGER GRABBED THE DOOR HANDLE, IT CAME OFF IN HER HAND. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED. THE FIRST TIME WAS YEARS PRIOR UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS, SAME PASSENGER REAR RIGHT DOOR. I PAID FOR REPAIRS OUT OF POCKET THAT TIME BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP STATED THERE WASN'T A RECALL. I AM SURE THIS HANDLE SHOULD BE RECALLED CLEARLY AFTER HAPPENING TWICE FOR NO UNDERSTANDING REASON OR AGGRESSION.
The contact owned a 2012 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed he smelled a burning fuel odor, and smoke began coming into the vehicle from the vents. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact pulled over and unlatched the hood of the vehicle only to find a sizeable amount of fire coming from the engine, which left him with burned hairs on his left arm, no medical treatment was needed. The contact stated there was a cop parked nearby who came to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher. The fire department was called to make sure the fire was extinguished. The contact did not recall filling out a fire department report. A police report was filed, however the contact did not have the information available. The insurance company towed the vehicle and deemed it totaled. The contact was relating the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23v652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The dealer confirmed that the vehicle was not included in that recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and also confirmed there was nothing they could do because the vehicle was not included in that recall. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000. The VIN was not available.
I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME I HAVE TO REPLACE MY OCS SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT FOR $ 2100-$2300. THEY SAID THE AIR BAG WON'T WORK. NEXT TO ME WAS ANOTHER WOMAN BEING GIVEN THE SAME INFO AT THE DEALER AND ONLINE I HAVE SEEN COUNTLESS COMPLAINTS. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. RIDICULOUS!!!!!! *TR
DRIVING ON THE THRU-WAY GOING 65 MPH WHEN MY VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD SUDDENLY. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, VEHICLE LOST CONTROL OF STEERING AND BRAKES AND COMPLETELY JUST 'SHUT OFF' ON ME WITH NO FORE-WARNING. CALLED AAA, TECH. COULD VISIBLY SEE A BELT WHICH HAD RIPPED OUT OF ENGINE AND WAS DANGLING UNDER VEHICLE. I THEN HAD VEHICLE REPAIRED- A NEW BELT WAS INSTALLED , A BRAND NEW ALTERNATOR, NEW BRAKES, OIL CHANGE. 3 WEEKS AFTER THIS EVENT, I WAS AGAIN DRIVING ON THE THRU- WAY IN ALMOST THE SAME EXACT LOCATION AND THIS HAPPENED AGAIN. . MY VEHICLE JUST WENT DEAD, THIS TIME SLOWING DOWN AND DYING. CALLED AAA , THEY SERVICED ME OFF THE THRU-WAY (THRU-WAY DIVISION) AND UPON HAVING VEHICLE LOOKED AT MY CHOICE SHOP.. I WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE HAD COMPLETELY SEIZED (WAS NOW TOTALLY DEAD) AND WAS NON- REPAIRABLE WITHOUT A NEW ENGINE. ALSO TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE HAD LITTLE OIL EVEN THOUGH I HAD ONLY 3 WEEKS PRIOR GOTTEN AN OIL CHANGE AND CAR REPAIRMAN COULD NOT REPORT ANY PHYSICAL ISSUES WITH OIL CONNECTIONS, IE. GASKET LEAK, DRAIN PLUG, SEAL ISSUES. DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF MONIES I HAVE SPENT FROM DAY 1 ON THIS VEHICLE, MY EXPERIENCES AND THE LEMON THE VEHICLE HAS PROVEN TO BE, I FIND THIS INCREDIBLY UNSETTLING AND KNOW THAT THERE WERE ISSUES GOING ON WITH THIS VEHICLE PRIOR TO IT GOING ONTO THE ROAD THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED AND WERE NOT DUE TO NO FAULT OF MY OWN. ASIDE FROM THESE ISSUES, IN PAST THERE WERE SEVERAL OTHER PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE LOCKS AND WINDOWS LOCKING ON THERE OWN WHILE VEHICLE IN MOTION AND FUSES RELATED TO THIS AS WELL AS THE VEHICLE SHOCKING ME WHEN OPENING DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HANDLE WHICH IS INCREDIBLY UNSAFE! THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY APPROXIMATELY 30 TO 45 MINUTES AFTER HAVING BEEN DRIVEN. I HAD NOTICED NOTHING UNUSUAL WHEN DRIVING THE CAR. I WALKED OUTSIDE TO THE DRIVEWAY AND FLAMES WERE VISIBLE INSIDE THE CAR. THE CAR WAS UNOCCUPIED AND WAS NOT RUNNING. THE SWITCH WAS TURNED OFF AND THE KEYS WERE REMOVED. THE DOORS WERE LOCKED. I UNLOCKED THE DOORS AND PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH A PAN OF WATER. I LET IT COOL OFF AND CRANKED IT AND MOVED IT OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I REMOVED THE BATTERY CABLE FOR SAFETY REASONS. THE EMERGENCY FLASHER SWITCH APPARENTLY HAD MELTED AND THE FLASHERS WOULD NOT TURN OFF.
HI I AM WRITING YOU ON BEHALF OF MY KIA SORRENTO 2012 I'VE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS THE LAST PAST NINE MONTHS AFTER MY CAR WOULDN'T START I SUPPOSEDLY ASSUMED IT WAS THE BATTERY SO I HAD THE BATTERY CHANGED IN THE LOCK AT THE BATTERY IS ABOUT 78 YEARS OLD SO I CHANGED IT AFTER CHANGE THAT STILL DRAIN AFTER EVERY MONTH MY CAR WOULD JUST TURN OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF ME DRIVING OR STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN WHEN I PUT MY AC OR MY HEATER ON IT DROPS IDLE AND IT MAKES THE CAR REALLY HEAVY TO THE POINT WHERE IT FEELS LIKE IT'S HOLDING BACK MY CAR HAS BEEN DOING THIS OCCASIONALLY OFTEN ON WHERE I'LL BE DRIVING A LONG DISTANCE OR A SHORT DISTANCE WITH THE AC ON AND AS I'M PARKING TURN OFF THE AC IN THE CAR WHILE I GO UP AND DOWN AND WILL DROP IDOL AND JUST TURN OFF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY SPIDERS I DO NOT KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE VEHICLE I'VE HAD IT CHECKED OUT EVERY MONTH FOR THE LAST PAST NINE MONTHS AND PAID FOR THE DIAGNOSIS WHICH THEY ALWAYS KEEP ON TELLING ME THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE I HAVE LOOKED UP MY VEHICLE VIN NUMBER AND HAVE PUT IN THE NHTSE NUMBER AND I HAVE A FORM YOU RECALLS AND THEY LOOK LIKE ENGINE CESAR AN ENGINE FIRE
WHEN DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, THE TACHOMETER DROPS TO ZERO AND THE POWER DECREASES, BUT THE ENGINE DOESN'T STOP RUNNING. THEN IT SMELLS LIKE SOMETHING IS BURNING, AND I PULL OFF THE ROAD, TURN IT OFF, AND START IT AGAIN, THEN IT GOES BACK TO NORMAL. IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR A FEW MONTHS ALREADY. ALSO, I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR ALMOST 4 YEARS AND HAVE REPLACED THE HEADLIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS, AND BLINKERS NUMEROUS TIMES. I'M AT THE POINT THAT I'M AFRAID IT'S GOING TO BURN UP. BTW, THE ENGINE TEMP LIGHT REMAINS NORMAL. ALSO, SOMETIMES, THE ENGINE WILL STOP WHEN I STOP AT A LIGHT OR SIGN, BUT THEN IS NORMAL WHEN I START IT AGAIN.
MY AIR BAG LIGHT ARE ON ALL THE TIME WHEN I START UP MY ENGINE AND MY VEHICLE HASN'T BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND I WAS WONDERING IS THAT NORMAL? I'VE HAVE GOTTEN MY INSPECTION AND EVERYTHING PASSED.
MY MOO ROOF SHATTERED FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 5 YEARS. NOTHING HIT IT, IT WAS PARKED THE FIRST TIME AND WE JUST HAPPENED TO BE STANDING NEXT TO IT AND HEARD IT START TO SHATTER, YESTERDAY I GOT IN IT AFTER IT WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE STARTED TO DRIVE AND HEARD THIS POP/ CRACKLING SOUND AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN! THIS CAN'T BE BAD LUCK TWICE IN A ROW LIKE THIS. I DID NOTHING TO IT, WAS NOT HIT BY ANYTHING AND NOW AGAIN, SHATTERED!
I HAD MY CAR SERVICED ON 3/13/2020. I HAD A CRACKED VALVE COVER GASKET. I DROVE MY CAR ON 3/15/2020 TO MY DAD'S HOUSE. IT WAS PARKED IN MY DAD'S DRIVEWAY AND TURNED OFF. ABOUT 15-20 MINUTES LATER IT WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE WAS ON TOP OF THE HOOD OVER THE ENGINE AREA. WITHIN MINUTES THE WHOLE FRONT HALF OF THE CAR WAS AN INFERNO.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT MECHANISM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
I HAVE A 2012 KIA SORENTO. I HAD ISSUES WITH A RECALL WHEN THE DEALER USED A PROBE TO LOOK FOR METAL SHAVINGS IN MY MOTOR. CAR STARTED BURNING OIL. AFTER 4 MONTHS OF ARGUING WITH THE DEALER, KIA FINALLY REPLACED THE MOTOR IN JANUARY 2018. NOW ON 3/9/2020 I AM 4 HOURS AWAY FROM HOME. I SMELL GAS AND THEN MY CAR BURST INTO FLAMES. KIA HAS A RECALL ON "CERTAIN" 2012 KIA SORENTO'S HOWEVER MY VIN IS NOT ONE. IF THAT IS THE CASE THEN WHY DID MINE CATCH FIRE.
ON THE AFTERNOON OF 2-27-20 I WAS DRIVING ON I-25 HEADED SOUTH, NEAR MEAD (BETWEEN LOVELAND AND DENVER) I WAS TRAVELING AROUND 80MPH IN THE MIDDLE (3) LANE WHEN MY SUNROOF SHATTERED FOR WHAT SEEMED TO BE NO REASON AT ALL. GLASS RAINED DOWN EVERYWHERE AND I FEEL VERY LUCKY THAT IT WASN'T THE CAUSE OF A MAJOR ACCIDENT. THIS IS A BUSY SECTION OF I-25 AND THERE WERE A NUMBER OF CARS NEARBY, ALL GOING 70+MPH. I HEARD NO IMPACT TO THE SUNROOF WHATSOEVER. IT JUST SORT OF EXPLODED. IT SEEMS TO ME AS THOUGH THE LEADING METAL EDGE WAS FLEXING AND AIR GOT UNDER IT IN SUCH A WAY, THAT IT JUST PEELED BACK. I HAVE THE METAL PIECE SHOWN IN THE PIC ATTACHED. THE END OF THAT PIECE OF METAL LANDED ON MY RIGHT FOREARM; GLAD I HAD BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL.
AT 97K MILES, THE AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER A $134 KIA SERVICE VISIT, THEY DETERMINED WE NEEDED TO REPLACE OUR PASSENGER SIDE SEAT FOR AN OCS SENSOR, AT A COST OF $2,550. THE AIRBAGS HAVE NEVER BEEN DEPLOYED IN THE VEHICLE. AFTER REVIEWING MANY WEBSITES (AND NHTSA), I SEE THAT THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING, BUT IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THIS ISSUE WITH THE CAR.
ON 1/28/2020 AT 8 PM DURING A SNOW STORM, I HAD BEEN DRIVING NORTH ON HWY 41 AND HAD ENTERED THE CITY OF MARINETTE AND WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES PER HOUR. I MADE A RIGHT TURN ONTO A CITY STREET AND SUDDENLY WITH NO WARNING THE ENGINE JUST STOPPED. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NO NOTHING. I MANAGED TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND ATTEMPTED WITHOUT SUCCESS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. I CONTACTED KIA AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT CONSIDER ASSISTING ME WITH ANY REPAIRS UNLESS THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER. I PAID $200 TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED APPROXIMATELY 65 MILES TO DORSCH FORD IN GREEN BAY WISCONSIN, THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. I WAS INFORMED THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED UP AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE FOR APPROXIMATELY $10,000 AS THE WARRANTY HAD RECENTLY EXPIRED. I CONTACTED KIA AGAIN TO INQUIRE ABOUT A SAFETY RECALL (SC147) THAT I HAD LEARNED ABOUT ONLINE WHERE THE 2012 KIA SORENTO WAS EXPERIENCING CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO A MACHINING ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE DURING MANUFACTURING THAT CAUSED BEARINGS TO WEAR RESULTING IN ENGINE SEIZURE. I WAS ADVISED THIS RECALL WAS ONLY FOR THE 4 CYLINDER MODELS NOT THE 6 CYLINDER WHICH IS WHAT I PURCHASED. I COULD NOT AFFORD TO PURCHASE A NEW ENGINE FOR THIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER OFFERED ME $100 TO JUNK IT. I PAID APPROXIMATELY $30,000 FOR THE CAR AND IT WAS SERVICED DILIGENTLY AT THE DEALER. MY LOCAL MECHANIC SUGGESTED REPLACING THE ENGINE WITH A USED ENGINE WITH MORE THAN 100,000 MILES ON IT FOR $5000 FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE BUT WAS ADVISED I WOULD ONLY HAVE A 90 DAY WARRANTY AND THE SAME THING COULD HAPPEN. I DID NOT THINK THIS WAS A VERY GOOD IDEA SO THE VEHICLE IS SITTING IN MY GARAGE.
CAR STALLS OUT WHILE DRIVING THEN I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART IT AND IT HAS A JERKING TO IT WHEN THIS HAPPENS
I CONTINUE TO HAVE STARTING ISSUES. SOMETIMES IT STARTS MANY TIMES IT DOESN'T. ALSO I HAVE REPLACED MY HEAD LIGHTS AND BLINKERS SEVERAL TIMES. IT'S AS IF THERE IS A SHORTAGE INSIDE THE CAR SOMEWHERE. I HAVE BEEN READING MANY CONSUMERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES WITH THE SAME VEHICLE I HAVE 2012 KIA SOENTO. I'VE SPENT SO MUCH MONEY TRYING TO GET THIS PROBLEM HANDLED BUT I AM CONVINCED THIS IS SOMETHING ELECTRICAL THAT HAS TO DO WITH MANUFACTURING.
Hi, I get my car fixed at the dealer Inver Grove Kia in West Saint Paul in Minnesota. There is s problem with my suspension. With that being said, the first problem was my sway bar and that was not fixed correctly. I am now hearing the same noise on the passenger side of SUV and they are telling me it is strut. I need to have all information and recalls sent to me. Then dealer is not looking into other problems that the 2012 Kia Sorento has right now. DRIVING TO WORK THIS PAST TUESDAY 12/24/2019, WHILE DRIVING MY CAR DID THIS JERK MOVE AND THEN ALL THE ELECTRICAL SIGNS POPPED UP I COULDN'T BRAKE OR STEER MY STIRRING WHEEL .ITS AS IF MY CAR LOCKED UP ON ME. I COULDN'T START THE CAR AT ALL. LUCKILY I CALLED MY COUSIN TO SEE IF SHE COULD TRY AND GIVE ME A JUMP TOO SEE IF IT WORKED. IN WHICH IT DID I THEN TOOK MY VEHICLE UP TO AUTO ZONE WHERE THEY OUT IT ON THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE. WHERE MY BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR WERE FINE. IT WAS VERY SCARY FOR THIS VEHICLE TO HAVE SHUT OFF ON ME LIKE THIS I AM JUST GLAD I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY OR IT COULD HAVE BEEN A REALLY BAD OUTCOME FOR ME. THE UPLOAD OPTION ISN'T ALLOWING ME TO UPLOAD THE VIDEO OR MY PICTURE FROM THE SAY IT OCCURED.

VEHICLE MAINTENANCE WAS UP TO DATE AND THE LAST OIL CHANGE IN THE VEHICLE TOOK PLACE JUST 15 DAYS BEFORE THE ENGINE SEIZED. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS, NO SOUNDS, NO DASH BOARD WARNING LIGHTS BEFORE THE BREAKDOWN. CAR SIMPLY DIED.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IS ON. ACCORDING TO UNIVERSTIY FORD/KIA DEALERSHIP IN DURHAM NC THE AIRBAG SENSOR IS BAD IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR IS APPROXIMATELY $2200.00. THIS VEHICLE HAS 142,000 MILES AND I THINK KIA SHOULD PAY FOR THIS. TO REPAIR WILL REQUIRE A NEW SEAT. ACCORDING TO KIA SERVICE THE AIRBAGS NO LONGER WILL FUNCTION OR MAY BE ACTIVATED PREMATURELY.
THE CAR HAD EMISSIONS ISSUES, ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR, AFTER INSTALLING ALL NEW PARTS OURSELVES STILL WAS SHOWING EMISSION CODE, LOOKED UP IF THERE WAS A RECALL, AND THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL ON THE ENGINE DUE TO POOR MACHINING CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO SEIZE AND CAUSE OPERATOR TO LOOSE CONTROL. CONTACTED KIA AND THEY TOWED THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN KINGSTON NY. ORIGINALLY CLAIMED THEY WOULD REPLACE THE ENGINE AND TWO OTHER RECALLS. TWO DAYS LATER RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE KIA DEALER STATING THAT THEY WOULD NOT CHANGE THE ENGINE DUE TO THE FACT THE EMISSIONS LIGHT WAS ON AND THAT WE HAD WORKED ON THE CAR. THE EMISSIONS CODE IS UNRELATED TO THE ISSUE OF THE RECALL. THE CAR IS STILL WITH THE ORIGINAL OWNER. DO THEY STILL HAVE TO DO THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT REGARDLESS OF US ATTEMPTING THE EMISSION ISSUE? SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN DECEMBER 2011 I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT WIRING 4 TIMES AND HAVE TO CHANGE THE HEADLIGHT BULB AT LEAST ONCE EVERY 2-3 MONTHS. EACH TIME I HAVE HAD THE WIRING HARNESS REPLACED AFTER THE THIRD LIGHT BULB CHANGE THE WIRING HARNESS BEGINS TO MELT AND THEN LOSES CONNECTION WITH THE BULB THEREFOR MY HEADLIGHTS ARE INTERMITTENT.

WHEN INVESTIGATING, FOUND THAT THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. NO LOW ENGINE OIL PRESSURE OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS PRESENT.

I PULLED ASIDE AND GOT IT TOWED TO A NEARBY CAR AUTO REPAIR SHOP. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NEXT TO NONE OIL IN MY CAR AND BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN RUNNING WITHOUT ANY OIL MY ENGINE WAS ALL DAMAGED. I WAS TOLD THAT MY KIA NEEDED ENGINE REPLACEMENT. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE MECHANIC DIDN'T FIND ANY LEAKS OR OTHER REASONS WHY OIL MIGHT BE GETTING CONSUMED SO QUICKLY. I SEARCHED ONLINE ABOUT WHY I MIGHT BE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT MANY OTHER KIA OWNERS ACROSS AMERICA ARE EXPERIENCING SAME PROBLEMS WITH ABNORMALLY HIGH AMOUNT OF OIL CONSUMPTION. I BROUGHT MY 2012 KIA SORENTO TO DORSCHEL FOR THE SC147 RECALL A COUPLE MONTH AGO. THEY SAID MY ENGINE WAS NOT BEING REPLACED BECAUSE KIA IS ONLY REPLACING ENGINES FOR THIS RECALL IF THEY STOP WORKING. THEY DID NOT TELL ME I HAD ANY OTHER ISSUE WITH MY ENGINE, ALTHOUGH KIA'S RECALL TELLS THEM TO INSPECT TO THE ENGINE FOR ISSUE. I WAS DIRECTED TO KEEP DRIVING IT UNTIL THE ENGINE STOPS WORKING. NOW MY ENGINE HAS MAJOR ISSUES. WHILE DRIVING IT WAS HAVING TOUGHT TIME PICKING UP SPEED WHEN I ENTER A 55MPH ROAD AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE FAST. THE CAR KEPT SPUTTERING AND SHUTTERING, CAUSING A CAR TO ALMOST HIT ME FROM BEHIND. THIS IS ONLY A 2 MONTHS AFTER THEY INSPECTED IT AND FOUND NO ISSUES. DORSCHEL KIA SAYS IT IS A TIMING CHAIN FAILURE AND COMPRESSION PROBLEM, BENT VALVES AND SUCH, OIL SLUDGE AND THAT THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SC147. I ALSO HAD REALLY EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION (1QT EVERY 300 MILES) SINCE THE SC147 INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED. WHY? NOW KIA COMPANY IS SAYING THIS IS NOT THEIRFAULT. I BELIEVE EITHER DORSCHEL WAS NEGLIGENT IN THEIR ENGINE INSPECTION PERFORMED THE SC147 RECALL, OR THE ENGINE SLUDGE WAS CAUSED BY THE ROOT CAUSED OF THE SC147 PROBLEM, WHICH CAUSED THE OTHER ISSUES. OR SOMETHING DURING THE INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE FOR THE SC147 PROBLEM CAUSED OTHERS ISSUES THAT LEAD TO MY CURRENT SITUATION. I HAD NO ENGINE PROBLEMS BEFORE I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE INTO DORSCHEL KIA 2 MONTHS AGO AND THEN I HAD ALL OF THIS HAPPEN. WHAT DID DORSCHEL KIA REALLY DO TO MY CAR TO MAKE IT FAIL SO QUICK? A NEW, COARSER MESH IS AVAILABLE, AT A REPLACEMENT COST TO ME OF APPROXIMATELY $185. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM. THE PART IS NOT DEFECTIVE, BROKEN, OR WORN-OUT. INSTEAD, IT WAS NOT SUITED TO CARRYING OUT ITS PURPOSE IN THE FIRST PLACE. IN OTHER WORDS, THE SITUATION IS CLEARLY THE RESULT OF FAULTY DESIGN. I CAN TELL YOU FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE THAT THE INABILITY TO CLEAN MY WINDSHIELD ON-THE-MOVE WHEN NECESSARY IS WITHOUT QUESTION A SAFETY CONCERN. IT IS PARTICULARLY ACUTE AT NIGHT, BUT IT IS ALSO A PROBLEM AT OTHER TIMES. FOR THE MOMENT, I MUST CARRY CLEANING SUPPLIES AND MUST SOMETIMES STOP THE VEHICLE TO CLEAN THE GLASS SO THAT I MAY SAFELY OPERATE THE VEHICLE. THE CAR WOULD NOT START BACK UP. HAD IT TOWED TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT THE CRANKSHAFT HAD SEIZED DUE TO MECHANICAL DEBRIS IN THE ENGINE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH MY MAKE AND MODEL REGARDLESS OF ENGINE TYPE, BUT ONLY THE GDI ENGINE WAS RECALLED. MY SPECIFIC ENGINE WAS NOT RECALLED AND I WOULD BE LEFT TO PAY TO HAVE THE ENGINE FIXED DUE TO A MECHANICAL FAILURE NOT OF MY CAUSING. THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE, IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM FOUND WITH HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF KIA SORENTOS 2011-2013 WHETHER THEY ARE A GDI ENGINE OR THE SAME TYPE OF ENGINE I HAVE. WHY WERE NOT ALL ENGINE TYPES RECALLED IF ALL ENGINE TYPES HAVE THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE?
MY 2012 KIA SORENTO LX HAS 144,566 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED REGULARLY SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN JULY 2018. IN OCTOBER 2019, MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION GOING ROUGHLY 40 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER. THE ENGINE BEGAN KNOCKING AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. UPON COASTING THE VEHICLE INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT AND ATTEMPTING TO START IT, THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING AN INTENSE KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE HAD TROUBLE MAINTAINING POWER AND CONTINUOUSLY CUT OFF, EVEN AFTER PUTTING IN A NEW BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR. UPON CHECKING THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF IT WOULD THROW ANY CODES, IT THREW A "MISFIRE IN CYLINDER 2" CODE. UPON HAVING THE CAR INSPECTED, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WILL NEED A NEW ROD IN THE ENGINE. THIS CAR HAS UNDER 150,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED METICULOUSLY, BUT RANDOMLY THREW A ROD AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. AFTER DOING FURTHER RESEARCH, IT BECAME APPARENT THAT 2012-2018 KIA SORENTOS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM; MY 2012 SORENTO, HOWEVER, IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL ACCORDING TO A VIN CHECK.
