My Kia Sorento 2016 use alot of oil, resulting in my car needing a new engine. The contact stated to cancel the complaint because the wrong vehicle was entered.
My shifting lever acts all wonky. Feels lose. It acts as if it does not want to go into the gears I put it in, especially park. I have to wiggle the lever before it will lock. When I put it in reverse it takes a minute before the R comes up and then my back up camera won’t come on because I feel it’s not telling it that’s it’s in reverse. Yesterday I was driving the SUV and going down the road and all of a sudden it was like my SUV was put into to neutral going down the road, nothing touched the shifting lever but it was as if the car had no idea what gear it was in. This worries me as if someone was behind me I could have been rear ended. This is a real safety concern to me and my family. The SUV only has 60,000 miles on it. Are there any issues with this make and model? I would really hate to get into an accident.
I have a 2016 KIA Sorento. The paint is pearl white and it is peeling. The peeling is on the hood, roof and A pillars so far.
Steering doesn't aways respond to turning immediately while driving the vehicle.Steering has become difficult this is the second time for this repair to be needed service done in 2020 now service is needed again in 2023 same area the mdps motor repair and other dealer stuff. I believe KIA is aware of the problems I believe there is a recall or some kind of help for me and my family to travel safely in this vehicle please help me get the needed repairs covered ASAP I took the vehicle to the dealer on 7-21-2023
My issues began when the vehicle was leaking oil, took it to dealer and was told I needed a valve cover gasket (?). After that repair the vehicle began to burn oil excessively. I noticed this after the check engine light came on previously. I took it to the dealer and was told I needed spark plugs. Plugs were replaced but the vehicle continued to burn oil. Check engine light came on. At approximately 7am as I traveled on a very busy highway so my Kia Sorento began to sputter before losing power.
I have a 2016 Snow White Kia Sorento that the paint is coming off of. Paint is coming off from the hood, above drivers side door and above back hatch.
Car was in an accident; started on fire, car is totalled
Engine stopped working.
After I got the for my car. I took my carto a mechanic. He ran several test and concluded that my car has an electrical problem.
UNKNOWN Possible radiator or water pump damage. Constantly have to fill car up with antifreeze & water every few miles. Car is never driven over 45 mph. Car easily overheats & leaves us stranded as we live in a rural location. Have to purchase antifreeze every 3 days that we cannot afford. Have VERY LIMITED funds to assist with mechanical work, but we can contribute a little. No income whatsoever coming in due to job loss. Can't rely on car to get to work, but can work from home. Currently seeking employment, but competition has been tough. This is our only car for our family of 4. 2 kids in school [XXXXXX] . No bus or friends/relatives who can help. Was referred to this program by a friend as they informed me that it offers financial assistance for some repairs. When driving at night with the light switch in auto position, headlight will turn off. Sometimes, turning the switch to off and back to auto will make them work. Sometimes wiggles the switch will make them work. Sometimes you have to switch them to on to make them work.
Paint on the hood started to peel off in July of 2023. It has not been formally inspected, but is available for inspection. We have not contacted a dealer yet.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the check engine warning light intermittently illuminated and while coming to a stop, the oil warning light illuminated while the brake pedal was depressed. The contact stated that on several occasions, upon start up, the vehicle lost power after hearing the engine rev. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone and placed on a diagnostic machine, and it was determined that the power train, throttle pedal position sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer 3 months ago for an undisclosed failure however, after the vehicle was retrieved, the check engine warning light intermittently illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.
My engine was replaced under the recall approx 10,000km ago. Now, my car is over heating. Check engine light has NOT come on ever. There seems to be oil in my radiator as the colour is that of a milky brown.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving approximately 40-50 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the residence and then to an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with Manufacturer Recall Number: PI1802B; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 79,571.
Engine rapidly burns and leaks motor oil. Can lose more that a quart a week in an engine that holds 5 quarts and has about 60k miles. Metal fragments found in every oil change while consistently topping off between each change.
Yesterday while driving the engine began to shake and seize, it would not accelerate above 40 mph. I was seconds from entering the hwy but pulled into quick trip where it died and had to be towed at own expense. Oil pressure sensor had been flashing on periodically when breaks were applied between regular oil changes. Vehicle was consuming 3-4 qts of oil between oil changes, which is not normal. There were no signs of any oil leaks, oil light did not remain illuminated to suggest low oil levels, nor a check engine light warning. Vehicle has less than 100,000 miles. When contacting KIA was told I would need a warranty to fix. This is not a warranty issue, this is a KNOWN issue and class action lawsuit related to these symptoms. I was seconds from a possible fatal accident on the highway and I'm sure a buy back or vehicle exchange would be better than a lawsuit involving corporate negligence resulting in a death.
Primary Emission test Performed:OBD - Fail OBD SYSTEM - READYNESS STATUS Fuel System not ready My 2016 Kia Sorento repeatedly fails for above cause. Kia dealer proposed driving the car varying speed (Highway, City etc.) Their first recommendation was to drive car for 100 miles and problem will clear. Then they recommended 300 miles, then 600 miles and they continued to escalate the mileage. I have driven the car 1200 miles and the problem persists. I contacted Kia corporate and the customer rep said that she knew nothing about the problem and she said that I should just tell the dealer to fix the car. I told the rep that I already had several interactions with the dealer without any luck. I told her to contact the dealer, which she would not commit to doing. I am driving the car that has inspection sticker which is two months past due. This is the only car that I have and my wife and I require the car for necessities and doctor appointments and medical procedures. Please help!
Engine stalled while driving on highway. Took it to a Kia dealer and had it diagnosed as an engine block/head gasket failure. I have documentation of service. Service document reads “owner states vehicle runs rough when first started and a/c doesnt cool properly, started vehicle, a/c is currently working normally, upon inspection, found coolant about 3/4 gallon low and has bubbles coming up in reservoir tank, topped coolant, performed engine block test, photo of yellow fluid in tester indicates combustion gases are getting into cooling system and not going out exhaust as it is supposed to, took video of bubbles coming up into tank, advise more than likely due to overheating of engine either has crack in block or warped heads or a combination of the 2, advised recommended long block replacement as tear down is not cost effective , gave estimate, owner declined repairs at this time”. I have been made aware of other customers and people experiencing exact same issue with their Kia sorento models. We have only had this car for over a year from a reputable dealer.
Shift lock does not come out of park. Started September 2022. Excessive oil burning 2 quarts a month( every 500 miles) Started June 2022 Low oil light does not turn on ever Electrical issues. Locks turn on and of every time I open door. Check engine light is always on. Since I bought the car. Kia tried fixing but it didn't help. Now have engine failure.
On Fathers Day, my 2016 Sorento had a flashing check engine light. I pulled it over and had it towed to the dealer I purchased it from. While they thought it was a knock sensor, they could not ensure that would fix the problem. I then had it towed to another mechanic who diagnosed it as a bad connecting rod in the motor. . It was at this time that they told me there was a recall for this type of engine, which is the 2.4 TDI. After contacting 4 dealerships, Kia of Lanham agreed to look at it but I must show proof of the last 10 oil changes. Fortunately, while I just purchased the truck in December 2022, the Carfax report detailed that the SUV had been serviced by a Kia dealership in VA. I have incurred 3 towing charges, 2 diagnostic fees plus a 2 week car rental until I could purchase another vehicle. Finally, it is well known by many mechanics that Kia’s customer service is often poor and st times, quite arrogant. If my 7 year old, 114k mile Sorento is not repaired, I will NEVER buy another Kia or Hyundai product again.
When accelerating at 70 miles an hour, the RPM went up to 5 and then all acceleration was lost. I was able to steer my vehicle to the side of the highway and at that point turned off the vehicle. When I tried to restart the vehicle, it would not start. The check engine light and battery light came on at that time. After having a mechanic look at the vehicle and the battery was replaced, it was discovered that the oil level was excessively low, even though an oil change had been performed less than 4000 miles ago. The oil light was never on alerting me that oil was a problem and there were no oil spots indicating a leak. As of now the vehicle engine is completely locked up and will not start. It needs a new engine.
Total engine failure on highway with no warning. Kia dealership says a piston broke and a valve is stuck open. Total engine replacement required with a cost of $12,000. Kia refused to help with cost due to car being at 101,000 miles. Only 1,000 miles over the powertrain warranty.
I was accelerating as normal and as soon as i got up to speed my car started to decelerate without me pushing the break. I could then not accelerate at all. I was able to pull off to the shoulder/ median of the road and was thankfully able to avoid a crash. Once I was stopped I could not accelerate anymore. I turned off the engine and was not able to restart it. There was no check engine light warning or any warning for that matter. I had to get the car towed to a local car shop. They did an evaluation and told me the engine seized and it would be an estimate of $11,000 to replace the engine. I went to research and found out there has been a recall on the exact year, model and engine of my car and there was never and notice of this or that there has been other safety problems with Kia sorentos.
The electric power brake (EPB) on my vehicle had a fault three separate times. The first time, the rear brakes were engaged by the EPB for approximately a half an hour. The second time a few weeks later, they stayed locked for approximately one hour. A few weeks after that, the brake locked up while the car was parked, and would not release for almost 7 days. It isn’t the fault itself that is of the greatest concern. It is the fact that there is no apparent emergency release for the parking break. I’m grateful I did not need to use the car to drive my kids to the emergency room, for example. I’m very surprised and disappointed that Kia, throughout all of their other innovations, does not have an emergency EPB/brake release handle. One could easily be put in the back of the car, near the spare tire, with a cable and set of release pins, which when pulled, would release the EPB and the car could be driven.
The engine threw a rod while driving on a flat stretch of US HWY 285. The vehicle is available for further inspection if needed. The engine has 61,300 miles on it. We were forced to stop on a small 2-lane highway and wait for hours for a tow. This was inspected by the dealership and needs to be replaced for the vehicle to be safe to drive again. This is not covered under warranty as I am the second owner with a warranty up to 60,000 miles. No warning lights or messages occurred prior to the rod being thrown.
The contact owned a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH and accelerating uphill, the vehicle rapidly decelerated, and lost motive power before reaching the top of the hill. The contact was able to safely exit the freeway but was afterwards unable to reach RPM's above 2,000. The check engine warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a general engine failure. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer for a second opinion, which confirmed the engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 122,000.
Fire from fuel pump engine failure catalytic converter issues from engine
Recently, while driving on a busy multi-lane highway my 2016 Kia Sorento suddenly lost power, started shaking and slowed down causing traffic safety hazard. The engine stalled after slowing down. The car needed to be towed at my expense.my check engine light came on for my KSDS, the engine went limp mode and unable to accelerate over 50 miles and hour on the highway. My engine is blown. gasoline smell fumes came through vent causing me to have an attack car started to catch fire.
automatic transmission shift lever assembly components, fuel pipe exhaust causing fumes to come through the vent area causing fire and smoke. accelerator assembly issues when driving
Vehicle inspection catalytic converter fumes coming inside vents causing fire an frame issues
was driving at 11mph and car would not Accelerate almost causing and accident issues with engine sparking flames fuel system problems, transmission issues when putting the vehicle into park. Engine problems check engine light keeps blinking on an off system says park vehicle do to diagnosed problems. suspension issues afraid to drive vehicle do to so many safety problems.
Excessive oil consumption, concerned about engine seizing while driving due to this.
I was traveling on the interstate, I heard a slight tapping noise, after about 5 miles, there was no warning light indicators, the car just died, I lost all power, there were no brakes, I was able to get pulled off the highway to the warning track that helped slow the vehicle down, smoke was coming from under the hood & into the cabin, then I saw flames, at about 20mph I knew I had to get out so I put it in park & it finally stopped. I had just enough time to grab my purse & suitcase out of the back & it was in engulfed in flames immediately. I had just had the car serviced 1 month prior for oil change & Anti theft recall but was advised that recall wasn't being done at this time. The engine light had came on the day before I took it in for the oil change, they reset it stating it was a CO2 sensor & if it came back on to let them know. It did not. It has been reported to my insurance& deemed total loss, I filed a claim with Kia & have not heard back, the Kia service dept. where it was taken said there was nothing they can do, that it will have to be investigated by insurance.
Rear control arm weld broke drivers side. 18 year old lost control on interstate at 70 miles per hour. Was spinning around and avoiding hitting a steal fence, steal beam and wall. I have pictures of the broken weld. If no recall yet their needs to be before it kills someone!! [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to CarMax, where the mechanic retrieved DTC code: P017 (Crank Shaft). The contact stated that unknown repairs were made to the vehicle; however, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the battery; however, the failure recurred. The dealer informed the contact that the engine had misfired, and that the engine had a crack in the manifold that had been glued together. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that the transmission had previously been replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the top of the engine needed to be taken apart. The warranty company requested the records of all the oil changes. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.
This is the second very similar incident with the engine of this vehicle. On Monday, May 29, 2023, the engine failed at a stop light in Fort Wayne Indiana. A few miles before it failed, it suddenly got very noisy and wouldn’t go over about 15 mph. It wouldn’t really react to the accelerator pedal. At the stop light it just quit at a major intersection leaving me stranded in the middle of the road. It has been towed to the Kia dealer in Fort Wayne. They have not diagnosed the problem yet but I have read many reports on line and my experience was similar: vehicular just quit, engine lost oil, accelerator pedal not responsive, and loud ticking sound. I’m afraid the repair will be thousands of dollars and I’m a senior citizen on Social Security. This is a second incident. On October 20, 2022, my daughter in law drove my car to IU Health Hospital in Indianapolis to visit me in the hospital (major surgery). In an hour and a half she used a full tank of gas and 3 quarts of oil — the car slowed to 40 mph, accelerator pedal didn’t work and she was on Route 69 a 4 lane major highway and was very scared. She pulled off at the next exit. The car had to be towed from Indianapolis to Fort Wayne. My mechanic worked on it, got it running ok but it had a major oil leak. I was recovering from my surgery so drove it little. I now find out that the engine in my car has major problems just like what I have experienced and that Kia is refusing to fix them unless people pay in excess of $6000. This is a safety issue!!!! Having the car fail and just quit while on local or interstate roads leads to accidents and injuries. This engine needs to be recalled. Kia knows it and has settled claims out of court so they don’t have to admit responsibility. This is a serious safety hazard. The recent date of May 29, 2023 is provided but the previous date this happened is October 20, 2022. So there were two incidents.
It has 120,000 miles on it. No warning lights. No “low oil” light or anything. My ex-husband hooked up a code reader to it and no codes were being given. It’s currently sitting at dealership, I still owe $3500 on the car and I can’t drive it. Will cost more to put an engine in then to pay off of my car. The dealership can’t look at it for another week. I have no means of another car. And Kia says they can’t do anything.
2016 Kia Sorento suddenly without any warning lights started losing power while driving on busy intersection. Vehicle dies, have towed, they say looks like there was no oil despite fairly recent oil change and without oil light popping up. Mechanic states it was ok for now but would need to start thinking about a new engine. Pick up vehicle and it didn’t even make it home before it lost power in an intersection again. Called Kia multiple times and despite other Kia’s having this issue apparently my vehicle is not one of the ones with a recall. There is nothing they can do for me. Owe 11k on vehicle, motor will probably be close to that. For now I am making payments on a vehicle that won’t go anywhere. Went to Kia dealership to see what help they could provide and their suggestion was to stop making payments and let them take vehicle back. Obviously I’m still making payments. But then they sold me a used Hyundai which subsequently caught fire a month later. Turned out while it didn’t have a recall on the Hyundai it had a campaign about a software update that would have indicated a problem before my engine caught fire. Dealership couldn’t have cared less, I’m aware that one was a Hyundai but that’s the level of customer service Kia provides. And will also sell you a vehicle with outstanding issues and not bring to your attention.
Engine began regularly overheating. Problem began in May 2023. No warning lights, other than the temperature gauge going up. Thermostat was replaced, radiator was cleaned and checked, without defects found. No leaking hoses. Problem continued to get worse, requiring coolant be added every time the car was driven. Mechanic decided the head gasket was failing. Due to the nature of the head bolts, the recommendation was to replace the engine. This has not been done and the car is unusable and unsellable due to the failure.
my car got stolen and have had really bad service on kia end i got insurance to pay for most would like at least my 500.00 debuctable back
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento LX. The contact stated that after the dealer completed remedies for Kia recalls SC234, SC249B, and CS2304, he was notified by the dealer that the vehicle's engine oil was 2 quartz low. The contact informed the dealer that he had just completed a scheduled oil change two weeks prior. No warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who advised the contact that the vehicle may be burning engine oil abnormally fast and began a 1,000-mile performance test to determine the oil burn rate of the engine; the test is still underway. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 91,023. The dealer contacted the warranty company but was denied coverage for the vehicle.
Saw a news report that the Tow Hitch Harness electric may start on fire. Received a notice from Kia November 1, 2022 regarding the possible fire. Parked car outside as instructed in notice Called local Kia Dealer re: issue (January 16, 2023) NO remedy per [XXX] Asked [XXX] if car can be parked inside garage and if it was advisable to NOT drive the vehicle and he said that the fire issue is only if the hitch electric is used that there is a fire concern and it is ok to park in garage. So we started parking in garage and did not use hitch electric. I contacted. Kia and was put on hold so was unable to share my concerns with the Called again 2/16/2023 still no remedy Asked again if we needed to park outdoors and was there danger is we drove the car. Was told the fire concern is only if the hitch electric was being used and it's ok to park in garage. Called again 3/28/2023 still no remedy Asked again if we needed to park outdoors. Was told no as the fire concern was only if hitch electric was being used and its ok to park in garage. Received another Interim Notice Update today(5/17/2023) dated May 8, 2023 stating that there was an interim fuse fix for the fire issue. Called local Kia Dealer in Waukesha Wisconsin and was able to schedule an appointment for June 6, 2023. Again I asked if we needed to park outside and if it was safe to drive the Sorento. Did not know...follow the letter instructions. My concern is that the dealer is giving different information than what is outlined in the letter from Kia regarding our 2016 Sorento. I am concerned, so we again are parking outside away from our home and other vehicles and will not drive the car until the interim fuse fix is taken care of. Why does the Kia service department tell us it is ok to park in the garage? Why does the Kia service department tell us it is ok to drive the vehicle? I am concerned that mixed messages are being given out by Kia Dealer Service Dept and information from Kia. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
My oil light was not working and even though I was having maintenance done on my car regularly, my piston rings failed and my car was burning oil between oil changes and I did not know it. Now, my car needs a new engine which I cannot afford and Car Shield is refusing to honor their warranty. I have been without a car for 4 months while it sits at a shop
I called Kia to replace fuse per their safety recall information. They are really uninterested in fixing these recalls or allowing me to speak to a manager to fix the issue. What's the point?
The oil pressure switch failed in our 2006 Kia Sorento with 46,681 miles. We purchased this car new from same Kia dealer that services it. The oil leaking from the pressure switch got onto the exhaust manifold, and lots oil had traveled through wiring harnesses and got inside electrical connectors including half filling inside the computer unit ECM/ECU? main pin wiring connection. After searching online I found that many other people have reported the same oil leaking problem with the oil pressure switch in various Kia vehicles, though the Kia dealership told me there is no recall for it. This was surprising to me especially when I noticed smoke coming off of manifold when I took it to the Kia service center, and when their repair service man sent me a video from Kia showing the amount of oil that leaked up the wires inside of harness into the electrical pin connections going to the car computer system. I do have a copy of this video. This seems very concerning to me and makes me worried.
The engine seized while driving. No check engine light turned on or oil pressure light illuminated prior to seizure. This happened on 5/11/2023. I had the oil changed on 4/20/2023 and regularly checked the oil levels because of previous oil consumption issues. Previously, I completed oil changed on 6/17/22, 7/27/22, and brought it to a KIA dealership on 8/1/22 for oil consumption issues. They completed a valve gasket cover replacement at that time which I paid out of pocket. The vehicle continued to have oil consumption issues after that repair and which eventually lead to the engine failure. Kia refused to replace the engine under warranty or recall and it cost me $7,494 to replace the engine at the dealership.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, the contact heard a loud popping sound. After stopping to inspect the vehicle, it was discovered that the glass sunroof had shattered upward. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer. The cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted and notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000.
Im driving my car then my engine totally shut down.
