At highway speeds, the steering appears to "stick." Think of it as as a flat spot on a wheel. That's what it feels like. The higher the speed, the more it sticks. Using cruise control makes it worse. This sticking causes overcorrection. Had a bit of an issue going through a construction zone over the Nueces River in Corpus Christi, TX. I have researched this issue, and you do have complaints. I am scheduling service for the car next week. I do have a notice from Kia on steering issues. A type of extended warranty for steering. The "sticky steering" issue has no warning lights/lamps.
I have a had issues with my check engine light flashing and when that occurs. The car begins to drive slow and does a jerking motion when pressing the gas pedal. I called Kia Galenea and informed them of the problem with my vehicle. They took the car and said it that the vehicle needed a updated on the knock sensor. So they did the updated not even a week later the engine check light comes back on again. I called Kia dealership and told them again what had happened. The same code P1326 appeared again and the check engine light is flashing. They took the car back and said it was a oil pressure switch that needed to be fixed. I paid them for that and they said we fixed it. I left the dealership with my vehicle and not even 20 minutes the check engine light came back on. This time my car began to stall like it could hardly go 50 on the interstate. I told the dealership and they said it’s nothing we can do, so I had told them it’s still showing the P1326 popping up and the car is even worse now. So I filed a complaint with Kia Consumer after that incident and I have yet to hear back from anyone yet. During this difficult time I have been struggling to get to work when they basically refuse to put me in a rental. I was put in a rental for less than 24 hours when they called me that morning saying they had fixed the problem when I’m certain they didn’t because the check engine light began to flash as soon as I got on the interstate. I had to pull over because I didn’t want anyone to rear end me. I just want Kia to fix the problem even though it’s not giving me the answers. I have filed a complaint I have been more than patient with Kia. I’m still without answers and a vechicle.
Sunroof portion of moonroof exploded while driving on the freeway. We heard a sonic boom inside our car and the sunroof window shattered glass up and outward spraying glass out onto the freeway and into the fabric ceiling liner.
4/18/22 While making a right turn in a residential neighborhood, the car abruptly stopped and engine shut down. The stop was so abrupt that it threw my body forward and now have shoulder and neck pains. No warning lights were illuminated prior to this incident, however, after the engine shut down, the airbag light was lit. I drove it home slowly, called the Kia dealership in Manteca, CA. Making arrangements to have the vehicle towed and have it examined. Two days prior, the ! light came on. I noticed that the passenger side headlight was out. That same evening when I started the vehicle up, the ! light was gone and the headlight worked. I addition, when having the light control kept on Auto, the headlights remain on all the time. If this had happened in traffic or on the freeway, it may have had a different outcome.
Heavy oil consumption. I just changed my oil 3,500 miles ago and it burned through the whole thing. I am on a group on facebook where hundreds of kia and hyundai drivers have the same issue with a very similar engine. Many have even had big engine fires as a result. This is not a safe care to take your family in. My engine seized up as a result, so I am only a year into my car payments and it is a total loss. I am on a teacher's salary so I can't afford to fix it or get another car.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while the dealer was servicing the vehicle, she was informed that the vehicle was experiencing a minor engine oil leak due to the engine oil being overfilled. The dealer cleaned the engine compartment. The contact stated that the engine was running rough, and the vehicle was vibrating while idling. The contact stated that while driving with the Adaptive Cruise Control set to 73 MPH, the vehicle made abnormal popping sounds and jerked. The contact noticed a significant amount of smoke coming from underneath the hood. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road, where the vehicle lost motive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a piston slap caused by faulty crankshaft and rod bearing. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact there would be no assistance since the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving approximately 20-25 MPH, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer sent a diagnostic report to the manufacturer. The manufacturer declined to cover the repair of the vehicle as the contact had failed to complete a knock sensor software update under a product improvement campaign; however, the contact stated that she had not received a notification regarding the product improvement. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.
The oil light came on and started blinking. I checked the oil and it was full. I then called the Kia dealer and told them what was going on and the said it was a sensor. I needed to make appointment to get a new sensor but they had none and they were on back order. They would call me when it came in. I started seeing oil in garage under my car. I called The kia dealership back and they said just keep adding oil to it. 4 weeks after initial call the part came in. I took my car in to be fixed but it was more extensive than they were assuming. They had to order more parts and it took 2 more weeks. It turned out to be the Oil pressure switch that was leaking and spewing oil all over the engine. Could have been a disastrous situation. It cost me 1750.00. The car has 84,000 miles on it has been well taken care of and they didn’t cover it under any warranty.
High pressure fuel pump leaking gas into oil. University Kia of Durham NC says it will cost me $1250.00 to repair this issue. My car has 60,905 miles on it. I see recalls on this issue? I have not had the repair done yet.
Upon driving in the highway at the speed limit of of 75mph my Kia Sorento began to lose control and lose speed when i tried to gain more speed . It was very frightening and i ultimately feared for my life especially when the whole car began to shake violently. Based on the diagnostic report it is the engine control system and yes i agree to have my vehicle inspected because this is highly unacceptable from Kia! I literally just gave Kia my car back in 10/2021 for them to update the engine software and now this! And when i call to make an appointment to get the problem fixed I’m being told i can’t get a loaner car i would be paying a rental car out of pocket for 6 month! I am a single parent of a disable child and Kia thinks that’s ok? My safety was highly put at risk! I could’ve swerved and panicked and hit other cars had i not had gained complete control over my car. There has been no other prior engine light system failures but prior notices in the mail about a prior recall in my car then also i had to pay $252 to get my car towed because i was beyond my insurances mileage
Kia can not describe what exactly is wrong with my vehicle. First they said it was the rod bearing then they took it back because if it was the rod bearing system then Kia would have to fix the engine then they said it’s my spark plugs now here we are 4 weeks later they’re saying it’s the compression system in relation to the spark plugs. And this was the same person i spoke to literally 4 weeks Ago. So at this point I’m like make up your mind which one is it? I told them I’m a single parent with a disabled child with no transportation and have been without for 4 weeks. I even had to come up with a rental out of pocket with no reimbursement or loaner from Kia when asked m, i spent $2,000 that Kia won’t reimburse me for. The incident occurred in march 27,2022 while driving on the highway at 70mph as i was accelerating my engine began to shake and engine light came on and vehicle began to shake violently and completely went out. I nearly got into a 3 pile car accident due to this incident. The dealer refuses to acknowledge any ownership and completely rests the blame on me. I have told them and called Kia consumer that i can not afford to pay $7,000 for a recalled engine and im highly upset. No prior warning lights came on prior to this event i submitted all prior maintenance paperwork to my insurance adjuster for proof that the vehicle was regularity was maintained i also did the KSDS update that they recommended that i get done back on 10/2021 and this still issue still happened to me. Now I’ve been sitting at my home with my disabled son and he’s been unable to attend school and i have been unable to provide because we have had no transportation for 4 weeks with no help from Kia. They finally introduced good will to me today finally after 4 weeks but i doubt kia will even cover whole or 50% of the costs of the engine because i can’t afford $7000.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento.. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked it suddenly caught on fire. The fire department was called and put out the fire. A fire report was made. There were no injuries and no medical attention was needed. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
I purchased 2017 Kia Sorento in 2020. I have to put 2 quarts of oil in it once a week. I noticed it around 2022. I get the oil changed on the regular. The engine is starting to rattle, and my oil light does not indicate when the oil is low. So, I have to check it constantly. The under-carriage rattles excessively. I've taken the suv to dealership and they are telling me that they cannot find anything wrong with it. I am at a loss. Plus, I am still paying a note on the suv.
Rear left passenger window drum defective. Window has been used maybe 20 times in 5 years. Window will not raise or lower and fails to stay closed. Appears to be window Drum Pulley. From internet chatter, this is happening often. This vehicle has low mileage we purchased it new and we are in our 70’s. Took it to my dealer for repair. My dealer service rep. say’s they get about two vehicles a week with this issue.
Engine ceased in Dec ..was repaired and today engine ceased again. I believe they repaired it with a bad engine. Im currently stuck on side of road with my children. I pulled over off the highway in enough time. My engine was just replaced by Kia in Dec 21. There is no way this should be happening I purchased through Greenway Kia in Franklin, TN in I took the car back for the bumper/ SC201 recall and since then have had nothing but issues. I have established the below timeline as the basis of my complaint and frustration. Last year I tried to get a manager to call me back for months and no one called. 5/18/21- Returned car for the SC201 Aux Canister Installation recall 6/11/21-Less than a month later my engine light came on and I noticed issue with my oil having to be topped off often. After a week or so in the shop and denied claims. I was told at this point that there was a canister issue unrelated to the recall. This made no sense to me since the engine light did not come on until after the recall work was done 11/16/2021- Car engine ceased and stop as I was heading to work. I had not yet reached 65 busy hwy. If I had I might have been in an accident. The car remained in the shop for almost a month. During this time, I had to catch rides to work and continue to pay a 549.00 per month car payment. I eventually rec’d a 10 day rental through the warranty. I received the car back in Dec 2020. Jan 2021- now- Notice a burning engine smell and call Kia who stated that it was the newest of the engine. I also notice the engine was louder. Was told this was a new engine. I contacted KIA 2 weeks to schedule appt because I’m back topping oil, engine light never came off and burning smell so
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel seized upon depression of the accelerator pedal without warning. The contact stated that the failure did not occur while turning the steering wheel but rather while driving straight. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer on three separate occasions and was recently informed that the failure was normal vehicle operation. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 59,000. The VIN was not available.
Excessive oil consumption with no low oil warning light. Driving with no oil can cause severe engine damage. I was informed by the Kia dealership after reporting an issue with oil consumption. Issue started in March 2022, diagnosed in april 2022 and 1 month of driving had no oil and no low oil warning light come on after oil change.
Steering has a sticky or notchy feel. When going around bends/curves the vehicle proceeds to turn without the need of hands on the wheel. Steering feels like you have to break it out of place, which leads to oversteering out of lane. The issue is constant . Vehicle is not only putting myself at risk, but other drivers if not able to turn or avoid traffic. Problem has been reproduced and confirmed by dealer. Dealer advised to replace entire steering column which is about $2,600. There are no warning lights but issue was noticed after first buying the vehicle. Vehicle has no history of accidents nor indications of damage.
We Reported in February of 2022 To Kia of Port Charlotte in Florida that our steering wheel was sticking so bad we had to use extraordinary effort to keep the car going straight. They told us they were unable to replicate what we experienced. Starting in February of 2025 we started to experience the same thing. We brought it [XXX] to Kia of Sebring Florida. They diagnosed that there is a sticking of the steering wheel but it is not covered because the car is 7 years old and has 59000 miles under warranty. When I checked on line there are tons of customers complaining of this same problem. Please look into this issue as it could cause accidents eventually. Thank you INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering assist and seized without warning. The contact was able to safely guide the vehicle off the roadway. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was a mechanical defect in the steering assembly and had to be addressed by a dealer. The contact drove the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the battery and a faulty ball joint replaced. The dealer stated that the failure was not due to the steering. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
The electronic steering "sticks" and makes it necessary to force the steering wheel to make driving corrections. This in turns causes an oversteer situation and a safety issue. The vehicle is difficult to keep lane control. New tires, alignment, and a TSB software upgrade by Kia service did nothing to correct the problem. Kia determined (15 Feb 2022) the vehicle needed the electronic steering column replaced. The Kia service rep stated my factory and extented warranty will not cover the cost of repairs. The problem has been intermittent for over 2 years and getting worse. My research indicates many owners having the same issue with this vehicle.
I purchased my vehicle from Carvana in 2020. It was registered and I received my tag promptly. Last week I was turning and gaining speed and I lost all engine power. Battery light came on and steering locked up as well as brakes almost causing an accident. I noticed Kia and I paid to tow it to the location. They then notified me that because I had active recalls the vehicle was no longer under warranty and I would be responsible for the cost of the engine replacement. I have no car to get back and forth to work with and am about to lose my job. I bought a Kia FOR the warranty and have received ZERO notifications of recalls and was not told when Carvana sold me the car. I have no idea what to do but it was made clear that the recalls not behind fixed is what has destroyed my ENTIRE ENGINE. I need my car added to the recall list. I need a new engine on my NEW car before I lose everything
I purchased this vehicle 6 months ago(07/2021). I have kept up with my regular service oil changes, but it burns oil way too quick, and the exhaust spits out smoke. I have been adding oil every 3-4 days because it runs dry just that fast. I was driving on the highway, and the vehicle abruptly slowed down. The engine light blinked off and on, and then stayed on. I barely made it off the exit safely, because the vehicle would no longer accelerate. I could no longer drive it, and the sounds from the engine became increasingly louder. I had to have the vehicle towed to my mechanic, where it sits today, not able to drive, and according to him, in need of a new engine. This is very frustrating, especially since I have only had the vehicle for barely 6 months. I have all my invoices of regular oil changes, so I know this is not a problem I caused. Kia has got to do better. It's absolutely dangerous to have consumers on the road, driving in such hazardous conditions.
We had an oil change done, and right after there was a knocking sound on top of the engine. Then, it stalled while we were driving it. They told us to have it checked. My wife was on her way to a near Kia dealership and the engine blew. She Called the number for Kia today, and they told her it wasn't under recall, but according to recall #SC153 the make and model was under a recall for the exact issue that we ran into.
While driving the car slows down without me slowing down on the breaks. Car wants to shut down & is vibrating. Car doesn't want to drive past 2000 rpm. I take it to mechanic, he can't find the code. I take to mechanic a 2nd time. I get codes p1326 & p2600. No recalls are found for Sorento but other models there is plenty.
While in Auto mode, lights turn off and on during the day and night. Happens daily.
Left low beam bulb went out. The right side was rendered inoperable. Had no operational low beam, just parking and high beam lights. Safety issue, generated a dangerous and lot of irate drivers in on coming vehicle’s, with inability to lower the high beams. Once the left low beam bulb was replaced right side became operable full low beam was operating. Don’t know if this a fluke with this vehicle or engineering problem. Created a high stress situation!
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STALLED SCARING EVERYONE IN THE VEHICLE. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THERE IS A MISFIRE AND MOST LIKELY THE PISTON RING IS BAD AND ENGINE NEEDS TO REPLACED . THE VEHICLE WAS CONSUMING ALOT OF OIL PRIOR TO ENGINE FAILURE .
Recently the oil pressure sensor indicator light has been coming dure to excessive oil consumption. Oil light also comes on when idling, even though engine oil level is full. Slight increase of RPM causes light to go out, but may come back on occasionally when idling again. PVC valve has been replaced with a new one, problem continues. Seen many more of the same complaints on this and other websites. Appears to be a manufacturing defect or faulty oil pressure sender based on reported information. A Kia Sorento oil pressure switch recall is allegedly necessary based on a petition sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The agency says the petition seeks a Kia Sorento oil pressure switch recall because 2015-2017 Sorentos are at risk of complete engine failures.
Regularly the head light’s randomly turn off as well as the tail lights and break lights. This is absolutely terrifying! It has been happening for over a year and know one can fix it. This is a huge problem across 2017 & 2018 Sorrentos. There are multiple forms for it as well as mechanic discussion groups trying to solve the problem. This NEEDS to be a recall and fixed immediately before some gets hurt or worse!
I WAS LEAVING MY COUSINS APARTMENT COMPLEX WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. I ATTEMPTED TO TRY TO START THE VEHICLE AGAIN BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE VEHICLE WERE ON AND THE RADIO WAS STILL PLAYING SO IT DID NOT APPEAR TO BE THE BATTERY. I ATTEMPTED TO TRY AND START THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND NOTICED GRAY SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I THEN BEGAN TO SMELL SOMETHING BURNING, SO I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND POPPED THE HOOD. I THEN NOTICED A FIRE COMING FROM THE ENGINE BEHIND THE AIR FILTER COMPONET. ABOUT 10 SECONDS LATER I HEARD A POP AND TOOK OFF RUNNING TO A SAFER LOCATION AND CALLED 911. THE FIRE THEN BEGAN TO GROW BIGGER AND THE WHOLE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS THAT CAME ON. IF I HAD NOT EXITED THE VEHICLE WHEN I DID I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN SEVERLY BURNT AS THE WHOLE FRONT WINDSHIELD SHATTERED AND THE DASH WAS MELTED AND FRONT SEATS WERE BURNT.
The vehicle has stalled multiple times while in motion presenting a life safety concern, the vehicle is under warranty and has been at the dealer multiple times and they are unable to duplicate and refuse to do any further diagnoses beside scan for active codes which the vehicle does not have. Vehicle currently will not start and has left us stranded in an area where we are concerned for our safety.
While driving the steering wheel gets stuck in the direction you turned it. This is especially true when steering in a curve. I have to constantly make minor adjustments while negotiating a curve. I have to constantly pull cw and ccw because it sticks after each adjustment. I ask the dealer to look at it during an oil change and the attendant told me they didn't have enough service people because of COVID. I called several months later and the service person said it has motorized steering assist and that is the way it is. If you are going around a curve close to the center line it would be very easy for the power assist steering to make you cross into oncoming traffic I noticed it after buying the car and kept putting off having it looked at. I've had heart surgery and covid came along with lock-downs and I've just neglected to have the problem resolved. I've searched for similar reports and problems and there are many more owners with the exact same problem. KIA should have a recall to remedy the situation before someone is killed.
High oil consumption. I'm burning 2 quarts of oil every 1000 miles.
THIS IS A EARLY 2017 BOUGHT IN AUGUST 2016 ON DECEMBER 22 2021, MY DAUGHTER AND TWO YOUNG GRANDSONS WERE TRAVELING WEST BOUND ON I68 JUST PAST CUMBERLAND MD. HER CAR LOST POWER AND SHE CALLED ME IMMEDIATELY AND I HEARD THE ENGINE RATTLING. I TOLD HER IMMEDIATELY TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF, I ASK HER IF SHE HAD A LOW OIL PRESSURE OR LOW OIL LIGHT SHE DIDN'T UNTIL ALL THE OIL LEAKED OUT. SHE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A KIA DEALER IN CUMBERLAND, MD WHERE HE TOOK A PICTURE OF A POP CAN SIZE HOLE IN THE BLOCK. SO YOU HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS IN SOME 2017s. SHE HAS 115000. MILES ON THE VEHICLE. IF YOU ARE WONDERING WHY SHE CALLED ME, SHE WAS ON THE WAY TO MY HOME AND I WORKED AT TMMWV TEST CELLS AND LISTENED TO MANY ENGINES.
My car was fine, then all of a sudden (after an oil change) it started knocking really loudly. I pulled over and the noise stopped- so I got back in the car a drive home. When I pulled into the driveway, I heard the noise again- knocking. I popped the hood and had daughter press the gas, sure enough- knocking again. I told husband and we parked it, he towed it to the dealership the next day. They said that because my car did not get the "campaign" update- ROD KNOCKING SENSOR- that the extended warranty was null and void. I asked to place a complaint at how the whole situation was handled- they said they mailed us letters, but they must have been the most non-descriptive letters in history. It's not safe- they know about this problem and they are not doing anything about it- they are doing the bare minimum, that is how people get hurt. We owe more to repair this vehicle than it is worth, and there is no "Goodwill" assistance on a car that wasn't "kept". I kept my car within it's normal limits, it's not right how the company chose to notify. They have all my contact info- I am the original owner. Thank goodness my teen daughter wasn't driving.
Driving on the highway at 65mph uphill, engine started making horrible noise and started to fail. Pulled over on shoulder and had to have it towed. Kia is denying warranty because I cannot provide service records. Whether or not they will right this wrong it is a major safety issue when you have complete engine failure with no warning. The engine in my vehicle (3.3 v6 Lambda)completely failed without tripping any warning devices that are equipped on the vehicle. There is a Defect that causes the engine to burn too much oil and there is a defect where the vehicle fails to warn of potential safety issues. There was total engine failure with no warnings. No Service Message No Check Engine Light No Low Oil Pressure Light No Knock Sensor Code No Limp Mode activation. In the service technician's report it even says "no codes set in the ecm" This could have caused a fatal accident and I don't see how this is acceptable.
The oil pressure switch sensor is going bad. Common problem with the 3.3 Lambda V6 engine. The oil light comes on when the vehicle is at idle. I now have an oil leak which is another symptom of the sensor going bad. Costly repair, sensor located deep in the engine between the two cylinder banks. This is a fire hazard with oil pooling on top of the engine if not repaired.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the check engine and the check oil warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The contact pulled over and stopped the vehicle. The contact placed the vehicle in park (P) and was able to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that she drove the vehicle to a local dealer who added oil and changed the spark plugs. The contact had a recent oil change performed less than two weeks prior to the engine failure. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that over the next several years the vehicle stalled intermittently. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and had the vehicle diagnosed and was advised that the catalytic converter had been damaged and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle. The contact stated that while driving back to the residence, the vehicle stalled several times and had to be restarted several times. The contact had rebuilt the engine himself. The failure recurred a second time and the vehicle had to be towed. The contact stated that the vehicle was sputtering and jerking while driving. The contact stated the engine failed and the vehicle was no longer drivable. The contact called the dealer and was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall for the engine. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and filed a case. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
I am the owner of the 2017 KIA Sorento, which I purchased new. When I first contacted the NHTSA, I stated within the last few months that after driving the vehicle the highway or expressway for an extended period (approximately 60 mins to 90 mins), the steering wheel would bind when turning on the road to change lanes or maintain the vehicle on the road. This binding occurs in the turning position without warning. I'm concerned the steering will lock, which will result in a bad accident. I initially took the car to the dealership (Gunther KIA), where I purchased the vehicle. The service adviser told him because the steering wheel has electronic components, the problem could occur when the battery needed replacement. I agreed to have the battery replaced; however, the binding of the steering wheel re-occurred. After the second failure, I returned the car to the dealership's service dept. At the advice of their technicians, they performed a software update on the vehicle. Unfortunately, a couple of days after the second repair, the same failure recurred for the third time. Once again, I took the car back to the dealership, where a case was filed and opened; however, the dealership could not diagnose or duplicate the failure after a few days in their possession. At one point, the master adviser (Randy Rosario) at the dealership told me that he had the same experience with his own Sorrento. And he learned to deal with it and said I should learn to deal with it because the dealership would not give me a new vehicle. I replied by stating that I didn't want a new car; I wanted my car fixed because I feared for my safety and the safety of my family and grandchildren. The adviser also mentioned that a recall should happen, but the manufacturer has never issued one. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. As a result, the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 43,490 Fortunately, during the week of January 10th, 2022, I once again called the dealers
Steering began sticking at about 55K miles. Got worse over time. Causing difficulty with accurate lane changes or straight steering. Car has electric motor assisted power steering. Found multiple similar cases on line where solution was to replace entire steering column assy. Took car in to dealer (Peoria Kia, Peoria AZ) 15Oct2021. Dealer said had to replace entire column assy- steering. Was covered by 3rd party extended warranty on car, 2 months later, steering stopped working completely. We were able to get the car to the side of the street and stop. Had car towed back to Peoria Kia. They now report broken steering gear, which appears to be related to previous repair. Solution pending back ordered parts. Work order for first repair attached.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the ABS warning light and other unknown warning lights illuminated. Additionally, the contact noticed that the exterior of the driver's side mirror housing had melted. The contact stated that shortly after she could no longer lock or unlock the doors of the vehicle using the driver's side power door lock switch and the key fob. The contact was also unable to roll down the windows using the window switches. The contact stated that the instrument cluster had also failed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that an electrical fire had occurred in the driver's side mirror housing. The independent mechanic disconnected the electrical wiring system of the driver's side mirror housing. The contact stated that she could no longer adjust the driver's side mirror as needed and it could no longer turn in when the vehicle was parked. The contact stated that she was still experiencing electrical failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
Headlamp Multifunction Switch set to "AUTO", while using the Turn Signal (either direction) the Headlights will suddenly TURN OFF... while driving at night this is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND DISORIENTING... ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. To correct this, I had to jiggle the switch or turn it to Manual ON.
My vehicle has been consuming massive amounts of oil. My oil is completely OUT at around 2500 miles after a fresh oil change. There are no leaks or puddles on my garage floor and no warning indication on the dashboard. I became aware of the problem only after my mechanic did courtesy inspections after taking my car in to have tires replaced, headlight bulbs replaced, routine maintenance. This is unacceptable and can lead to significant engine problems and/or fire!
When in auto-mode, the headlights randomly just turn off while driving which is a huge safety risk. This has been happening randomly every once in a while since at least 2021. It seems to be happening more often now. Also, the taillights are randomly turning on at night when the car is off.
my car went from running perfectly fine to completely breaking down in less than 10 miles. Complete engine failure. I was lucky it did not catch fire. I am writing this because Kia needs to change the status of their "product improvement campaign" PI1802 to a full blow recall. This is a wide spread issue that affected thousands of Kia vehicles, but because they refuse to call it a recall, it does not show up on nhtsa or on Kia's website. Kia states that numerous notices were mailed, but I did not receive anything. They cannot prove that I received them any more than I can prove that I didn't. They are now refusing to cover or help cover the cost of a whole new engine.
On 10/03/2021 I was driving on the freeway, when I heard a pop then a thumping sound. After pulling over, we discovered that the engine splash guard had come undone (again!!!) There were no indicators in the vehicle that this was about to happen. There was no debris on the freeway to have caused the shield to come undone. I believe that there is a definite manufacturing defect in this particular part, as this has occurred multiple times, always while driving on the freeway, and never with any associated cause. The only thing that I think is happening is that the bolts/shield are poorly executed and cannot withstand the wind speed when being driven (I was going around 70 MPH)
When the headlights are on "auto", they shut off at night while I'm driving. This has happened when I have been traveling out of state on dark highways and it is very dangerous. It is available to be inspected. I have not taken it in to get checked. I have not been able to use the "auto" feature because I do not want to take that kind of risk.
I was in a wreck in a 2017 Kia Sorento lx on sept 27,2021. Somehow ended on opposite side of road hit a culvert was thrown in air and bounced rolled tumbled all directions all air bags deployed but the steering wheel and dash. I ended up with my L1 lumbar burst and shattered. The state trooper that was there even noticed the nondeployed airbags. The owners manual and Internet says if steering wheel airbag doesn’t deploy can result in severe spinal injury. The car is totaled but I’m sure someone could still check it out. I am in a backbrace unable to lift up to a gallon of milk or able to stand or walk very long. And can’t bewithout brace on.
