The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owned a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving the vehicle at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced a loss of automotive power. Another driver notified her that there was smoke coming from the vehicle. After the vehicle was stopped, the driver saw flames coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. The fire department was notified of the fire and arrived and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was towed away from the scene of the fire. A fire report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The cause of the fire was not yet determined. The contact mentioned that previous to the fire there were several cylinder misfires. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The contact indicated that the original engine had been replaced in 2018. The failure mileage was 238,000.
The contact owned a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while the daughter was driving approximately 40 mph the vehicle crashed into the rear end of another vehicle. During the crash, the front end sustained severe damage and the vehicle was destroyed but the driver-side air bag did not deploy and the front driver-side seat belt malfunctioned and did not secure the occupant causing the driver's head to make contact with the steering wheel. The driver sustained a head injury that required medical treatment. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined and the local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the incident. The failure mileage was 94,000.
Car displays a check engine light. The check engine light reports an issue with the catalytic converter. Car has began to shut off randomly when coming to or at a stop (for example: at a red light).
IN THE PAST YEAR FROM FEB LAST YEAR TILL TODAY I HAVE BOUGHT 2 SET OF LIGHTBULBS. THE 1ST SET LASTED A YEAR THE 2ND SET I BOUGHT 2/1/21 AND IT JUST BURNT OUT AGAIN. I AM NOT BUYING CHEAP BULBS EITHER.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that the vehicle would idle when coming to a complete stop and there was a heat source coming from the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was serviced for a manufacturer's product improvement campaign software updates for the engine control unit and knock sensor detection system however, the failure recurred after the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,000.
While driving on the highway in cruise control, the engine suddenly went into a lower gear and lost acceleration. Since then, the car has had difficulty accelerating and struggles to get up to speeds over 60mph. I had the car checked out and was told it was a clogged catalytic converter and that it needed to be replaced. Prior to the highway incident, the oil light would come on frequently and oil would have to be added every two to three weeks. The dealer has inspected the car for the engine recall and found no issues even though the car was experiencing oil loss when it was taken to the dealer. The car has 110,000 miles.
The vehicle had a strange smell ever since we got it a few years back. Earlier in the month, the headlight and dashlight would flicker with the turn signal. We looked it up and set up an apppointment with a local Kia dealership for recall on this issue. Then this week, the engine suddenly quit while the car was parked. The vehicle wouldn't start at all. Kia was notified and they said that there was another recall on engine SC200 on this vehicle that was just announced earlier this year. Online lookup also revealed that the smell issue can be from burning oil or a leak into catalytic converter. Other Kia cars from the same years have also said to have had these issues. Then an OBD II check showed the codes 7E8 and 7E9 which has been noted online by other customers as engine problem recall for which Kia has replaced their engine free of charge.
Power Steering went out .
We have concerns how Gerald KIA of Naperville handled the recall: NHTSA Recall Number: 20V750 (1/25/21)/Product Improvement Campaign (10/20/20) and at this point are very concerned about the safety of driving our car at all. We brought our car in on 2/24/21 for this important safety recall/product improvement campaign. They performed the PI2002B ECU Update (sc200b logic update), inspected the engine for sc200ps bct and fuel line and oil pan inspection which all passed. We expressed the check engine light was coming on when on the highway, the proposed fix was replacing Purge valve, spark plugs and air filter. I replaced the air filter and purge valve myself and had my local mechanic replaced the spark plugs and one coil on 4/10/21. Also note that the car has been consuming too much oil for the past year and started to get worse during this time - sometimes losing more than a quart a week and we just monitor the oil level and add when it is getting low and were hopeful that these repairs would help the oil consumption problem as well as the check engine light coming on. After these fixes the car started having severe acceleration/loss of power issues while driving on the highway when reaching 65 mph and the check engine light would flash. And then one time the check engine light started flashing and stayed on and I brought it to my local mechanic to diagnose. He cleaned our fuel system to see if it improves our performance and while doing so confirmed that our car has a clogged catalytic converter and recommended that we bring the car back to the dealership for an oil consumption test to inquire further into our car issues and that the high oil consumption may have led to the clogged cat. Before I brought the car back to the dealership I re-read the recall/safety campaign letters and realized that it appears what was happening was after the software update which updated the knock sensor detection system - the blinking check engine light was blinking and the
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph during rainy weather conditions, the vehicle began to produce a knocking noise, decelerated, and smoke coming from the engine compartment. The contact's boyfriend opened the hood and confirmed that there was a fire. The fire extinguished itself and the vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it was currently there for diagnostics but not repaired as of yet. During the incident, the police were called but it was unknown if a police report was filed. The contact stated no warning lights were illuminated. The manufacturer was informed of failure and was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.
My vehicle started driving really sluggish and slowing down from 55 to 35 when going up a hill. It felt like it wasn’t getting the gas to make it go. I looked it up and found this recall: 2014 Kia Soul; Manufacturer photo Vehicles Affected: Approximately 379,000 model-year 2012-16 Kia Soul hatchbacks equipped with 1.6-liter gas engines The Problem: High exhaust gas temperatures may damage the catalytic converter, possibly resulting in abnormal engine combustion and damage to one or more of the engine’s pistons as well as possible piston connecting rod failure. Piston damage may result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash. A broken connecting rod may puncture the engine block, allowing engine oil to escape that may contact the exhaust, increasing the risk of a fire. however I was told that my vehicle is a 2.0 liter engine and it’s under the recall! Drove my vehicle home after the Kia dealer told me I needed a catalytic converter, then my engine light started blinking, called Kia of America corporate to ask them and confirm it wasn’t under recall and they had me get it to the dealer and now the dealer said I need an engine!!! I don’t even have 130,000 miles on the vehicle! Just seems too coincidental that my vehicle has the same issues as the 1.6 liter engine Kia Soul does! Kia is also saying I’m completely responsible for repairs!
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ENGINE SECURITY CAR LOCK
ABS LIGHT & BRAKE LIGHT AND OTHER DASH BOARD LIGHTS ARE ON, AND WONT TURN OFF. THERE IS A SOME SORT OF LEAK THAT I AM UNABLE TO FIND WHERE IT COME FROM. I TOOK IT IN FOR A SERVICE AND TO PERFORM RECALL P12002AQ WHICH THEY DID BUT KIA DID NOT ATTEND TO, OR ADDRESS THE BRAKE LIGHT & ABS LIGHT & UNIDENTIFIED LEAK REPORTED TO THEM AT THE TIME I BROUGHT CAR IN.. INSTEAD THEY WANTED TO CHARGE A VERY HIGH FEE TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES WHICH ARE THE SIGNS OF WHAT HAS CAUSED FIRE PROBLEMS WITH THIS KIA MODEL
MY ENGINE SHAKES REALLY BAD WHILE SITTING IDLING AND I CAN HEAR A LOUD HUMING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. I CAN ALSO SMELL GAS FROM TIME TO TIME. MY OIL WAS JUST CHANGED LESS THAN THREE WEEKS AGO AND IT IS ALREADY DIRTY, GRITTY AND DARK.
Engine has a severe knock and is consuming large quantities of oil, oil light would flash even with oil at the max mark. It is available for inspection. When dealer looked at the car they flashed the knock sensor, and returned vehicle, drove 2 miles went into limp mode in traffic, would not go above 5mph. Engine light flashed. Dealer replaced knock sensor and returned vehicle. Again, approximately 2 miles the vehicle went into limp mode again in traffic. Upon 3rd time going to the dealer they determined Engine needed replaced and refused to warrentie under recall. Vehicle has 156k miles recall expires at 150k.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the engine emitted abnormal rattling sounds. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving 30 MPH. The contact then inspected the oil dipstick and noticed that there was no oil, even though he had only driven 3,000 - 3,500 miles after the last oil change. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the dealer and the manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under the recall as the original owner failed to complete an unknown software update. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred several times while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SOUL. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE REVERSING THE VEHICLE, THE BACK OVER PREVENTION CAMERA MALFUNCTIONED AND THERE WAS NO IMAGE DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER NOR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE BUT DECLINED TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 67,230.
The contact owned a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated her son was driving at 35 mph when smoke started coming out from under the hood of the vehicle. The vehicles next to the vehicle and behind the vehicle honked their horns and started yelling at the driver that there was a fire underneath the vehicle. The driver pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and the vehicle became engulfed in flames. The driver exited the vehicle through the driver’s side window due to the electrical components in the vehicle melting and not functioning as designed. The fire department extinguished the fire. A police report was filed. No medical treatment was needed at the scene. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot where the contacts insurance company inspected the vehicle and deemed the vehicle a total loss. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage approximately was 60,000.
Piston punched through wall of engine resulting in small fire while driving vehicle
ON APRIL 13, 2021 KIA COMPLETED THE RECALL FOR CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND AND COMPUTER SYSTEM RECALL/UPDATE. ON APRIL 13, 2021 I WAS TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN WHEN THERE WAS A ROTTEN SMELL COMING FROM THE CAR. THEN UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT STARTED TO FEEL WARM, LIKE IT WAS HEATING UP. THE CAR THEN VIOLENTLY JERKED AND THE RPM DROPPED SUDDENLY AND THE CAR STARTED SHAKING AND SPUTTERING AND SMOKING FROM THE EXHAUST, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING AS WELL. I GOT OFF ON HIGHWAY 151 IN METTER GEORGIA AND PULLED OVER TO A LOCAL GAS STATION. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TRIED TO CALL FOR HELP BUT DIDN'T HAVE A PHONE SIGNAL IN THE AREA. I HAD THE CAR LOOKED AT BY A LOCAL MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED CAUSING THE ENGINE COIL 3 TO MISFIRE BECAUSE MORE THAN LIKELY THE PART WAS FAULTY. THE SPARK PLUGS WERE WET BECAUSE THE OIL AND FUEL MIX FROM WHAT WAS DESCRIBED TO ME AS BLOWBACK FROM THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER CLOGGING THE ENGINE. THE CAR DOESN'T GO PAST 2000 RPMS AND IT HAS LITTLE TO NO ACCELERATION. ONCE KIA GOT THE CAR THEY'RE SAYING IT COULD TAKE ALMOST 30 DAYS TO DIAGNOSE THE CAR ON THEIR END. THEY'RE ALSO SAYING THAT THEY POSSIBLY WON'T COVER THE ENGINE WORK BECAUSE THE RECALL ONLY COVERS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I DISPUTE THAT BECAUSE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS THE CAUSE OF THE ENGINE DAMAGE.
Can you please update the recall on this car it’s already has been fixed by the dealership in Arizona , 12 April 2021 the vehicle got fixed and i have all paperwork shows that
RECALL SC200 ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE SAFETY HAZARD. WHILE DRIVING AFTER I GOT OFF THE INTERSTATE AND GOT OFF ON MY EXIT, I HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE IN ENGINE, THEN OIL LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I GET MY OIL CHANGED ON THE REGULAR, SMELLED REALLY HOT HAD TO TURN OFF THE CAR IT SCARED ME BECAUSE IT ALSO STARTED TO DEACCELERATE WOULD NOT GO OVER LIKE 30 40 MPH. THE NOISE WAS TERRIBLE I WAS SO SCARED THE ENGINE WAS GOING TO EXPLODE I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. NOW AFTER THE KIA CONSUMER TOLD ME MULTIPLE TIMES THEY APPROVED THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT THE DEALERSHIP HAD SOME ISSUE DUE TO AN ECU KSDS UPDATE THAT I WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF AND IT WAS NEVER PREFORMED. SO SHE APOLOGIZED BY TELLING ME THE INFORMATION THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY PROVIDED MUTIPLE TIMES WAS INCORRECT AND I WOULD NEED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. I READ OVER THE SC200 ENGINE INSPECTION TEST RECALL LETTER. IT ACTUALLY STATES THEY WILL PREFORM THE KSDS ECU SOFTWARE UPDATE IN ADDITION TO THIS RECALL. NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. SENT ANOTHER ESCALATION BECAUSE THIS IS NOT FAULT OF MY OWN THE CAR IS BROKE DOWN AND ALSO NOT MY FAULT THEY GAVE ME THE WRONG INFORMATION (SO THEY SAY.) REGARDLESS THEY SHOULD REPLACE IT BECAUSE THEY ALREADY TOLD ME IT WAS APPROVED TO BE FIXED AND FOR A RENTAL. I HAVE STILL NOT GOTTEN ANY THING. I AM COMPLETELY
A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ASSOCIATED WITH THE CODE P050A CONTINUES TO REPOPULATE ON MY FAULT CODES. I HAVE TAKEN THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES AND BEEN CHARGED MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET WITH NO RESOLUTION. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE DRIVABILITY OF THE VEHICLE AND ANY FUTURE ISSUES THAT MAY ARISE AS A RESULT OF THIS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SOUL. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V750000 (ENGINE). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PRIDE KIA (793 LYNNWAY, LYNN, MA 01905) FOR THE RECALL REPAIR AND THE DEALER INSPECTED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND FOUND THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK IN THE OIL PAN. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE DRIVEN FOR 1,000 MILES BEFORE THE NEXT OIL CHANGE TO DO THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FOR 900 MILES, THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH. THE VEHICLE DROVE ROUGH AND WHILE IDLING PRIOR TO STALLING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER AND AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS PERFORMED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE CONSUMED 1 QUARTS OF OIL. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE OIL CHANGE SERVICE HISTORY RECEIPTS WERE NEEDED. THE CONTACT PROVIDED 2 YEARS OF OIL CHANGE HISTORY RECEIPTS, WHICH THE DEALER DEEMED WAS INSUFFICIENT DOCUMENTATION. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE NEEDED TO PAY FOR THE ENGINE TO BE DISASSEMBLED, AND THERE WAS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE RECALL WOULD COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR. THE DEALER OFFERED TO COVER HALF THE COST OF REPLACING THE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle, the oil pressure warning light would remain illuminated. I took my 2014 soul to get recall done in San Leandro on 01APR21.No repairs done except coil that I paid for.Today 03SEP21 I took my 2015 soul in(same issue as b4 little power)and they are telling me my catalytic converter needs changing. To my understanding when I had them check the safety recall The repairs would of happened then ,Dealers will upgrade the catalytic overheating protection engine control unit logic to prevent overheating of the catalytic converter. In addition, the catalytic converter will also be replaced if it has been damaged. Depending on the extent of any damage, the engine may also be replaced. All repairs will be done for free. This was not done to my 2014 soul.

2014 KIA SOUL BASE 1.6L WITH APPROX 30K MILES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CODE P050A CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND HAS REMAINED ON. ECU UPDATE FOR CAT RECALL PERFORMED IN 2019.
P050A ENGINE CODE KEEPS REOCCURRING WITH NO FIX FROM KIA. THEY KEEP SUGGESTING "FIXES" LIKE REPLACING THE COLD AIR INTAKE VALVE. CAI MECHANICAL BOARD. CLEANING THE CARBON IS REALLY PRICEY, BUT THE ERROR CODE JUST KEEPS COMING BACK. SEEMS TO BE EXTREMELY COMMON. CHECK ENGINE CODE KEEPS POPPING UP DESPITE EVERYTHING RUNNING FINE AND BEING CLEAN.

I HAVE BEEN CALLING KIA DEALERSHIPS IN THE WASHINGTON D.C., MARYLAND, VIRGINIA AREA TO HAVE IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL 20V750 SERVICE WORK PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF ENGINE FIRE RISK, AND ALL OF THE DEALERSHIPS EITHER DO NOT RETURN MY CALLS, OR SAY THEY DON'T HAVE RECALL APPOINTMENTS UNTIL MAY 3RD, ALMOST 60 DAYS AWAY, EVEN THOUGH REGULAR SERVICE APPOINTMENTS ARE AVAILABLE WITHIN 7 DAYS, AND THIS IS A SAFETY RECALL. IS THIS LEGAL, TO REFUSE TO PERFORM A SAFETY RECALL AND DELAY THE WORK FOR 53 DAYS? DEALERS IN QUESTIONS WERE KIA OF WOODBRIDGE(CALLED 3 TIMES AND EACH TIME GAVE ALL INFORMATION AND TOLD THEY WOULD HAVE A SERVICE REP CALL ME BACK, AND DARCARS KIA TEMPLE HILLS SAID NOT SAFETY RECALL WORK FOR 60 DAYS, BUT OTHER SERVICE WORK THEY WOULD DO NEXT WEEK.)
THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE ENGINE AT ONE POINT IN 2019 WHICH I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE IGNITION COILS SEVERAL TIMES SINCE MY PURCHASE IN 2017. THE ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON AND IT KEPT BURNING OUT THE COIL PACKS TOOK IT TO JULIO JONES KIA IN TUSCALOOSA ALABAMA AND THEY TELL ME THE PISTON RINGS ARE WORN AND THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE BUT IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE MANUFACTURES WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH IT HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS SAME PARTICULAR REASON AND I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THAT RECALL. I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE REPLACED BY KIA BEING THERE THE ONES THAT RECALLED IT FOR THE SAME ISSUES I'M HAVING NOW JUST A SHORT TIME AGO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SOUL. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT RELATED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V120000 (ENGINE, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BUTLER KIA (4950 CRATER LAKE AVE, MEDFORD, OR 97504) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HE WOULD RECEIVE A CALLBACK WITHIN 3-4 DAYS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 123,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED IT'S ALWAYS USING EXCESSIVE OIL NO LEAKS ITS JUST USING EVEN WHEN IT WAS NEWER. HAD TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BECAUSE OF THE EXCESSIVE OIL BURN. HAD PROBLEMS WITH POOR ENGINE PERFORMANCE GRADUALLY UNTIL IT GOT SEVERE ENOUGH IT WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. TOOK IT IN FOR A RECALL ON THE ENGINE THEY STATED IT HAD PASSED ALL TEST EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A TICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. ALL SO STRONG SMELL OF FUEL COMING OUT THE TAIL PIPE. FROM MY RESEARCH AT LEAST COUPLE OF THE ITEMS DISCUSSED HERE ARE COMMON WITH THESE VEHICLES. THE 1.6 HAS HAD SIMILAR ISSUES AND HAD THE ENGINE RECALLED ALTOGETHER. THE 2.0 NEEDS A RECALL AS WELL INSTEAD OF WITH TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS TO WORK AROUND REPLACING ALL ENGINES. I THINK SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE DESIGN OF THE ENGINE. I'M HOPING KIA CAN RECOGNIZE & RESOLVE THE ISSUE.
CODE P050A CAME ON AFTER RECALL. DEALERSHIP CANNOT TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG AND IT ONLY COMES ON UPON STARTING IN COLD WEATHER. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND KIA NEEDS TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION.

Had knock sensors replaced twice and engine is still knocking. Been noticing in the news and media that these cars are catching on fire and the knock sensors were designed to go into limp mode so it doesn’t catch on fire and I’m stuck with it and can’t drive it anymore because it’s in limp mode. The check engine light is flashing for the knock sensors p1326. I need help with getting Kia to get this fixed. It’s not safe to drive on the road.
My issue has to deal with the catalytic converter. I received a safety recall letter dated 4/12/2019 which stated I had a defect related directly to the converter. I brought the car in within days of this letter to get the upgrade to the Catalytic overheating protection unit. starting in Feb of 2021 my engine light goes on, and stays on for a few days, then goes off again for a week . this has repeated itself since then. Ive since brought the car in twice explaining this issue, only to be told on my 2nd trip that my catalytic converter is clogged. I explained I have the safety recall later which states "Kia will upgrade the catalytic overheating protection logic in the engine control unit (ECU), and if necessary replace the catalytic converter and/or engine at no cost to you". The response from both the dealer and KIA has been, "that campaign has ended, and the repairs are your responsibility". My argument is, how can a safety recall that is directly related to my defect ever be expired?. The car has been diagnosed as having a clogged converter. I've been advised by a lawyer to reach out here to see if i can get any answers regarding the recall letter and if its valid for the life of the vehicle.

I HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED FOR THE ENGINE FIRE ISSUE IN LATE 2019/EARLY2020 THEN ABOUT JANURARY 20, 2020 MY CAR BROKE DOWN WITH A FAILED CATALYTIC CONVERTER WHICH WAS AN ISSUE FOR THE RECALL. ONE YEAR LATER MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAS FAILED AGAIN! I DON'T THINK THE "FIX" FOR THE RECALL WORKED! IF THESE CARS ARE BURNING UP THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS STILL, THERE NEEDS TO BE A OTHER RECALL TO HAVE THEM FIXED PROPERLY.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, a burning odor was detected. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the dealer performed a recall repair for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V750000 (Engine). After, receiving the vehicle back from the dealer the oil warning light illuminated. The dealer was made aware of the failure and an engine test was performed and diagnosed that there was sludge in the engine from not having regular oil changes. The contact was informed that the oil needed to be changed every 2,000 miles, instead of every 3,000 miles. The vehicle was not repaired since an appointment was not available until August 25, 2021. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 63,363.
