THE OIL WARNING LIGHT FLASHED ON AND OF MOSTLY AT INTERSECTIONS. WE TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE. THERE WAS COOLANT/WATER IN THE OIL. ALSO, THEY SAID IT HAD EXTREMELY LOW OIL PRESSURE AT IDLE. THE REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY THE CAR COULD CATCH ON FIRE AND ALSO THE POSSIBILITY OF ENGINE FAILURE.
Car has issues when starting up. When turning on, occasionally it will take time to completely turn on, its as if it’s not receiving enough power from battery, but then it will turn on with the traction control and engine light being on. I would have to turn it off and turn it back off for those light to turn off. I’ve also driven the car and it will turn off, but the light is still on, the engine just turned off. This will also happen when I’m idle and waiting to run the car. When driving, I feel something being moved and the traction light & engine light will turn on. Especially when I try to get more speed on the car. I’ve taken the car numerous times for this issue but each time they’ve told me nothing was wrong with it. I’ve replaced battery since this was what we thought the issue was initially. On the 3rd time I’ve taken the car to get fixed, i was told that the ECM is the issue. Took a month to get the piece and car fixed. Same day receiving it back, it was doing the same thing where it would not turn on properly and the traction control light is on. And now when driving the engine and traction light are both on more often.
2014 KIA SOUL PLUS WITH 106,000 MILES. REGULAR SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE PROVIDED BY THE LOCAL KIA DEALER WITH NO PREVIOUS ISSUES AND ALL RECALLS ADDRESSED. I WAS DRIVING TO A JOB LOCATION AND WAS ABOUT 45 MILES FROM HOME GOING 70 MPH ON A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY. ENGINE STARTED CLICKING AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER THREW A ROD. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. I WAS TOWED THE 40+ MILES TO THE DEALER WITH EXCESS MILEAGE COSTS. DEALER HAS QUOTED ENGINE REPLACEMENT AT ~$7,000 WITH AN OPTION TO SELL TO THE DEALER AT A SALVAGE PRICE OF $350. I SUSPECT THE ROD BEARING ISSUE THAT MANY OTHER KIA SOUL OWNERS HAVE SUFFERED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SOUL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH, THERE WAS A BURNING OIL SMELL, NOISES COMING FROM THE ENGINE, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AS IT STALLED. NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO FRED ANDERSON KIA OF RALEIGH (9209 GLENWOOD AVE, RALEIGH, NC 27617) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED AS THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEMS WERE DOWN. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V750000 (ENGINE)AND THE RECALL COULD NOT BE SERVICED AS THE KIA DEALERS COMPUTER SYSTEMS WERE DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND WAS STILL AT THE DEALER. THE CONTACT THEN CONTACTED THE KIA MANUFACTURER, WHOM CONFIRMED THAT THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEMS WERE DOWN AND NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 157,245.
I WAS DRIVING WITH MY CHILD IN THE CAR OUT OF TOWN, WHEN THEY WHEELS LOCKED UP AND THE ENGINE MADE A HORRIBLE SOUND AND DIED. I HAD TO WALK TO A CAR RENTAL PLACE TO RENT. CAR. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. I GOT HOME AND THE NEXT DAY THE MECHANIC CALLED AND SAID I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE THAT IT BLEW A HEAD GASKET VALVE. HE RECOMMENDED CONTACTING KIA AS THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ON THIS CAR FOR THIS PROBLEM. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED KIA AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY CAR AND THEY WOULD PAY TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP. IT IS STILL A GOOD TWO HOURS FROM WHERE I LIVE. BUT THEY ASSURED ME IF WOULD BE COVERED AS THE ISSUE IT WITH HEAD GASKETS. IT IS RECAL NUMBER 2002B. THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED ME AND SAID IT ISN'T COVERED. I ASKED WHY AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR, JUSTIN STATED THE RECALL HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. NO TOLD HIM WHAT KIA HEADQUARTERS TOLD ME. HE STATED HE WOULD PRINT OFF THE RECALL AND SPEAK WITH HIS MANAGER AND GET BACK WITH ME. THE CAR HAS 124,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE DONE STRICK MAINTENANCE. AS A MATTER OF FACT I JUST HAD THE OIL CHANGED. MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER WHEN THE WHEELS LOCKED UP. HAD I NEED ON THE INTERSTATE I DON'T KNOW HOW WE WOULD HAVE AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. LUCKILY I HAD TAKEN BACK ROADS HOME AND WAS ENTERING A SMALL TOWN OF WINDER AND WAS ONLY DOING 25 MILES AN HOUR AT THE TIME. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON AT ALL. AFTER THE ENGINE FAILED THE OIL PAN LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS INTERMITTENTLY GOING ON AND OFF.
HAVE BURNT 5 QUARTS OF OIL IN THE LAST 30 DAYS DURING NORMAL USE. OIL LIGHT HAS NEVER COME ON TO INDICATE LOW OIL
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR WHEN I STARTED HEARING A TICKING NOISE, THE CAR STARTED SHAKING, AND ACTED LIKE IT DID NOT WANT TO ACCELERATE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS FLASHING. I HAD IT HAULED IT TO A KIA DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE MOTOR REPLACED DUE TO ROD DAMAGE.
I HOPE THIS IS THE RIGHT FORM. BUT MY GAS CAP ICON KEEPS COMING ON, EVEN WHEN THE CAP IS TIGHT. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES ALREADY. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO SECURE THE GAS CAP. SO I AM NOT SURE IF IT IS THERE IS A GLITCH WITH THE SENSOR, OF IF THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SEAL OF THE GAS CAP. I HAVE TRIED TO TIGHTEN THE CAP, THE LIGHT DOES NOT TURN OFF. I THEN FILLED THE GAS TANK UP, THE LIGHT CAME ON 4 DAYS LATER. AND HAS NOT GONE OFF YET. IT'S STILL HAPPENING AS OF 1/29/21.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE CAR TURNED OFF. I WAS GOING AROUND 70 MPH AND NOTICED WHEN THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH AND RADIO WENT OUT. I HAD TO RESTART THE CAR WHILE STILL DRIVING TO GET IT GOING AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT 4 DAYS AFTER WHILE THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND RUNNING, AGAIN THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AND THE CAR HAD TO BE STARTED AGAIN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SOUL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE CHECK ENGINE AND OIL WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR DETECTED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V608000 (STEERING) AND 20V750000 (ENGINE). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TROPHY KIA DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (1945 S FIGUEROA ST, LOS ANGELES, CA 90007, (213) 342-0802). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE SYSTEM WAS DOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle wobbled and hesitated to accelerate. Additionally, the vehicle was consuming excessive amounts of oil. The local dealer and Gurley Leep Kia (4028 Grape Rd, Mishawaka, IN 46545) were made aware of the failure. Both dealers informed the contact that the next available appointment was on December 20th. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon investigation, the contact learned that there were two recalls associated with the VIN; NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V608000 (Steering) and 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
Live in Dallas,TX. In MS 12/29/20 when engine failed, no warning. Did not receive recall until 1/28/21. KIA Wilson Flowood,MS kept my Soul until I retuned in person to MS 4/7 and demanded they return my Soul. Admitted they had to finish installing engine. I picked it up 4/9. I knew before I left MS my vehicle was not running as it was before the incident. Took to Central KIA Plano,TX. Kept it several days but was told they found no issues. Soul still not running as before. Went for oil change 11/9 & was informed I had almost no oil. Said appeared oil pan not fitting correctly. Took to Southwest Kia Dallas. When I picked it back up was told oil pan had not been reinstalled property & same for the engine. Said multiple screws & bolts missing.They took pics & sent to their district mgr. I contacted my KIA consumer advocate. Bottom line was told my responsibility to take car back to Wilson in MS for them to correct poor workmanship. I do not feel safe driving my Soul for fear the engine will fail again. If it should happen on Freeway, especially in Dallas, I could easily be struck by another vehicle. I feel KIA should correct their issue & authorize a local Dallas dealer to do so. KIA has put it in my hands to correct. Why would I drive my Soul 456 miles back to dealership that did not repair it correctly in the first place? I have no faith they would correct the issues.
AFTER HITTING A SNOW PILE LEFT FROM A SNOW PLOW I JUMPED THE SNOW PILE AND HIT A CONCRETE BARRIER GOING BETWEEN 65 AND 70 MPH AIR BAGS DIDNT DEPLOY. I HIT IT MOSTLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BUT NOTHING HAPPENED STILL. I DESTROYED THE BUMPER AND THE UNDERCARRIAGE PROTECTION IS CRACKED BUT NO AIR BAGS? ITS NOT THE FIRST TIME FROM WHAT I CAN SEE FROM THIS MODEL THAT A 2014 SOUL WITH AN ISSUE WITH AIR BAGS. MY DAUGHTER THANKFULLY HAS CONTROL OF HER HEAD FOR THE MOST PART AND KEPT IT FROM GETTING HIT AS WE SPUN OUT ON THE HIGHWAY. THANKFULLY MISSING ANY OTHER VEHICLES BUT THIS IS AN ISSUE KIA SHOULD BE LOOKING INTO.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2014 KIA SOUL IN THE FREEWAY WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO SHAKE AND LACKED ON ACCELERATION AND DROPPED SPEED FROM 70 MPH TO 40 MPH, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURN ON SO I PULLED TO SIDE OF THE ROAD AND GOT THE CAR TOWED TO MY HOUSE. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND FOUND THAT IT'S AN ENGINE ISSUE AND NEED TO BE REPLACE.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY CAR FROM LAS VEGAS, NV TO HEMET, CA AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY I PULLED UP TO A STOP SIGN. I STOPPED, THEN PROCEEDED TO PUT MY MANUAL VEHICLE INTO 1ST GEAR TOOK OFF, SWITCHED TO SECOND, NO PROBLEM, THEN THIRD AND THEN MY CAR TURNED OFF ON IT'S OWN AND I COULD NOT GET IT TO RESTART. IT HAS BEEN NON OPERABLE SINCE DECEMBER 24, 2020. THERE WERE NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS OR ANYTHING ELSE, IT JUST STOPPED RUNNING WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND WON'T START AGAIN
DECEMBER 2020 WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY MY 2014 KIA SOUL STARTED STALLING AND THREATENING TO LOSE POWER, AND THEN, WITHOUT WARNING THE ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED. MY CAR JERKED AND THREATENED TO TURN OFF-ACCELERATION WAS DECREASED-IT WAS VERY ALARMING AND VERY SUDDEN. THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN IT STARTED FLASHING OFF AND ON. I TOOK MY SOUL TO A NEARBY MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT I NEEDED MOTOR. IN SEPTEMBER 2020 THE SAME THING HAPPENED, MY KIA SOUL STARTED STALLING AND JERKING, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I HAD DECREASED ACCELERATION-STARTED LOSING POWER. I WAS CLOSE TO A KIA DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER, AT THAT TIME, AND KIA DIAGNOSED MY KIA SOUL-AND PER THE INVOICE THERE WAS A 'CYLINDER 3 MISFIRE DETECTED. CYLINDER 3 COIL HAS OPEN CIRCUIT'. I PAID $500.00+ IN REPAIRS. THREE MONTHS LATER DECEMBER 2020-SAME SYMPTOMS BUT WORSE, AND NOW THERE IS A MUCH LARGER PROBLEM. I REACHED OUT TO THE KIA DEALERSHIP WHO PERFORMED THE REPAIR IN SEPTEMBER 2020, AND INFORMED THEM OF THE PROBLEM, AND SHARED WHAT THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME OF, AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN FOR A DIAGNOSIS WHICH WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $200.00, SO THAT THE KIA SERVICE CENTER COULD DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT MY SOUL NEEDED A MOTOR. I'M SORRY, BUT I JUST PAID $500.00+ FOR REPAIRS IN SEPTEMBER 2020, AND I HAD TO PAY $79.00+, TO THE MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED MY SOUL, I DID NOT, AND STILL DO NOT, HAVE $200.00 EXTRA DOLLARS FOR KIA TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC AND GIVE ME THE SAME DIAGNOSIS. NOR DID I, OR DO I HAVE, THE EXTRA MONEY TO TOW MY SOUL TO KIA. I HAD ONE TOW, AND I MADE THE DECISION TO HAVE MY KIA SOUL TOWED TO MY RESIDENCE WHERE SHE SITS TODAY. SADLY IN THE COLD WEATHER, AND DURING A PANDEMIC, I HAVE TO SEEK A RIDE OR TAKE THE BUS TO AND FROM WORK, AND THE GROCERS ETC.. THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR ME OR MY FAMILY AT THIS TIME.
TRAVELING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 75 MPH...HAD CRUISE CONTROL ON AND STARTED TO HEAR A LOUD RATTLING NOISE THEN A POP RESULTING IN VEHICLE BECOMING IMMOBILIZED WITH OIL ALL OVER THE GROUND. VEHICLE TOWED HOME. ENGINE HAD THROW A ROD RESULTING IN HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK AND DRAIN PAN - HAS 102,000 MILES WELL MAINTAINED
DRIVING 70 ON INTERSTATE, SUDDEN TAPPING FROM ENGINE, PULLED INTO SERVICE STATION NO OIL IN VEHICLE, DESPITE BEING WELL MAINTAINED AND NO PRIOR ISSUES. HAD VEHICLE TOWED , AUTO SHOP SAID IT IS A VENT ROD CONNECTOR, KIA HAS A RECALL COMING LATE JANUARY.
KIA IS REFUSING TO FIX MY CAR ALTHOUGH THE VIN MATCHES THE RECALL NOTICE! I HAVE ALREADY PAID ONCE TO HAVE IT TOWED AND INSPECTED AND THEY ARE DEMANDING I DO IT AGAIN AT MY EXPENSE BECAUSE THEY THREW AWAY THE REPORT! THE REPORT I PAID FOR AND NEVER RECEIVED A COPY OF. WHILE IN MOTION, THE ENGINE IN MY VEHICLE FAILED AND THE CAR IS NO LONGER OPERABLE. MY ENGINE HAS FAILED AND THE CAUSE OF THE DAMAGE SEEMS TO BE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE DEFECTS LISTED IN MANUFACTURERS "PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN" DOCUMENT NUMBER PI202B AND MORE RECENTLY 20V750. THE DOCUMENT STATES KIA MOTORS AMERICA, INC. IS CONDUCTING AN IMPORTANT PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN TO PERFORM A SOFTWARE UPDATE ON 2014-2016 MY SOUL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.0L GASOLINE DIRECT INJECTION ('GDI') ENGINES TO PROTECT THE ENGINE FROM EXCESSIVE CONNECTING ROD BEARING DAMAGE. THE DOCUMENT ALSO STATES THAT KIA WILL ALSO EXTEND THE WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THE ENGINE SUB-ASSEMBLY TO 10 YEARS STARTING FROM THE DATE OF FIRST SERVICE OR 120,000 MILES. (REFERENCE: HTTPS://STATIC.NHTSA.GOV/ODI/TSBS/2020/MC-10179254-0001.PDF). - EMPHASIS ON THE WORDS "TO PROTECT THE ENGINE FROM EXCESSIVE CONNECTING ROD BEARING DAMAGE" MEANING THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL AND PROBABILITY OF BEARING DAMAGE IN EXISTING VEHICLES. THIS CAMPAIGN IS AN ATTEMPT TO PREVENT THE DAMAGE BUT IN MY CASE THE DAMAGE ALREADY OCCURRED. I HAVE CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP AND PAID FOR A DIAGNOSTIC FEE BUT THEY ARE DENYING THE CLAIM DUE TO "A LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE, AND THE PRESENCE OF METAL IN MY OIL" 3 BOTH OF THESE ISSUES ARE CLEARLY DUE TO WHAT IS MENTIONED IN DOCUMENT PI202B AS "EXCESSIVE CONNECTING ROD BEARING DAMAGE." THE BEARINGS FAILED (WHICH RETAIN OIL), OBVIOUSLY RESULTING IN A SUDDEN LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE AND THE METAL FROM THOSE FAILED BEARINGS MIXED WITH THE OIL.
SINCE FIRST OIL CHANGE DONE WITH DELRAY FLORIDA KIA I COMPLAUOF KICKING SOUNDS IN ENGINE LOSS OF POWER OIL BURNING SMELLS OCCASIONALLY. I WAS TOLD EACH TIME THEY PUT ON COMPUTER N NOTHING WRONG. I BOUGHT NEW AT 11/2014 NOW OIL LIGHTS ENGINE LIGHTS FLASHING ON IRRATIONALLY CAR CONSUMING OIL NO LEAKS JUST EATING IOL NOW 2-3 QTS IN 2 MONTHS KNOCKING GETTING LOUDER BUT QUIETS SOME AFTER OIL CHANGE BUT LOSS OF POWER AND KNOCKING PERSISTS. OIL IS SCARY HOW MUCH IT'S CONSUMES I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINS OF THIS ISSUE FOR FIRST OIL CHANGE. WAS TOLD BY DEALER NO NEED TO CHANGE OIL MORE THAN 2X PER YEAR BUT I STILL DO REGULARLY 3-4,000 OR 3 MONTHS. I FEEL DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE TO CAR AND I AM SEEKING NEW ENGINE REPLACEMENT. DEALERS NEVER DID IDENTIFY ISSUE SAID NO CODES GOING OFF. BUT I NOTICED IT FROM BEGINNING. ONCE THIS YEAR OIL WAS CHANGED I TOOK TO GET OIL DONE AND THEY SAID OIL WAS ALMOST EMPTY. I NEVER GOT OIL LIGHT. THEN NOR ENGINE LIGHT. THE ENGINE LIGHT WHEN ON THE DAY I TOOK IN FOR OIL CHANGE. THEY SAID THE ENGINE COULD HAVE CEASED. I STRONGLY FEEL I HAVE KEPT UP W MAINTENANCE BUT I FEEL I GOT A BAD CAR FROM THE START ONLY TO BE DISMISSED EACH TIME I COMPLAINED TO DEALER. ALSO THERE SEEMS TO BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE BLOWS LIGHT BULBS CONSTANTLY AND HAD MOTOR IN WINDOW REPLACE W STATER UNDER WARRANTY MOST DRIVING IS LOCAL BUT MANY HWY
ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2020, WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, WE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LEAKAGE OF ENGINE OIL AND SIGNIFICANT SMOKING FROM THE VEHICLE. OVER 3 QTS OF OIL HAD LEAKED FOR THE ENGINE INTO THE PAN UNDERLYING THE ENGINE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. KIA HAS JUST ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE PRESUMABLY BECAUSE OF THIS WELL KNOWN ENGINE FIRE ISSUE AND RELATED CLASS ACTIONS, HOWEVER WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE UNTIL THY SEND LETTERS OUT IN OVER 60 DAYS.
COMPLETE OIL LOSE, DIAGNOSTIC INDICATES ENGINE FAILURE. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A BUSY INTERSTATE 93 IN NEW HAMPSHIRE.. OIL LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH AND POWER LOSE DEVELOPED. NAVIGATING THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT AND COLLISION WAS NARROWLY AVOIDED AS THE VEHICLE CAME TO REST IN THE BREAKDOWN LANE
ONE DAY IT WAS FINE, DROVE TO LOUISVILLE KY FROM LEXINGTON KY AND NOTICED SPORADIC, WEIRD SHIFTING WHICH SEEMED VERY OFF, SHIFTING AT THE WRONG TIME I HAD GROWN ACCUSTOMED TO FOR THE PREVIOUS 6 YEARS ON THE WAY BACK HOME CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 55-60 MPH AND TO TRY AND FORCE IT TO DOWNSHIFT ONLY MADE THE ENGINE REV EXTREMELY HIGH AND NOISY WITH NO FORWARD MOTION, CAR ACTED AS THOUGH IT WANTED TO JUST QUIT ALTOGETHER, AND FROM THAT POINT ON ITS BEEN BOGGING DOWN LIKE A GIANT SAT ON THE HOOD UPON PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR TO GET MORE SPEED, AND UPON BACKING OFF 9F THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE LOUD REVVING NOISE EASED UP AND CAR SEEMED TO RECOVER SOMEWHAT UNTIL THE NEXT ACCELERATION...THE CAR HAS HESITATED, ENGINE IDLE IS, FOR THE MOST PART, OK, BUT 55-60 IS AS FAST AS IT WILL GO UNLESS GOING DOWNHILL, THEN I CAN 65 MPH UNTIL THE NEXT TIME IT NEEDS TO GO UP AN INCLINE THEN IT SHOWS TO 40-45 WITH OBVIOUS STRESS TRYING TO MAINTAIN A CERTAIN SPEED.

I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER TWICE WITHIN THE LAST YEAR DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE WHICH IS CAUSING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO BECOME CLOGGED. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED, I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER ON AN UPHILL PORTION OF A BRIDGE. THE VEHICLE THEN STALLED, FORCING ME TO PULL OVER ON A NARROW SHOULDER. AFTER BEING TOWED TO SAFETY BY THE CHP, I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE ENGINE IS BURNING HUGE AMOUNTS OF OIL WHICH IN TURN IS CAUSING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TO BECOME CLOGGED. MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE TO SOLVE THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM, AS THERE IS CLEARLY ENGINE DAMAGE CAUSING THE EXHAUST TO CONTAIN LARGE AMOUNTS OF SOOT AND UNBURNED OIL. I HAVE MAINTAINED THIS VEHICLE FASTIDIOUSLY, AND THE VEHICLE HAS JUST UNDER 150,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER.

The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 75 NORTH IN MARIETTA, GA WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER IN FRONT OF AN 18 WHEELER. I WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE OFF THE NEXT EXIT. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS LIT ON MY DASH AND THERE HAD NOT BEEN ANY LIT PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. JUNE 2020 MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED UNDER RECALL #SC176. ALL OF THE SYMPTOMS POINT TOWARDS ENGINE DAMAGE THAT OCCURRED PRIOR TO THE RECALL REPAIR.
THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON MY CAR STARTED TO EXCELERATE AND REV TO HIGH RPM WITHOUT THE ENGINE SHIFTING GEARS.. IN MAY 2019 I HAD A REPAIR DONE DUE TO A RECALL ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IN OCTOBER 2020 BARELY 1 1/2 YEARS LATER THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WENT OUT AGAIN. AS IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY 1YR IT WASN'T COVERED. I HAD IT REPLACED AT MY COST A PART THAT SHOULD HAVE LASTED 10PLUS YEARS ONLY TO HAVE MY CAR STALL AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK NOT EVEN A MONTH LATER. I HAD IT TOWED DIRECTLY TO KIA DEALERSHIP WHERE IT IS STILL CURRENTLY. THEY SAID THE ENGINE IS BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. KIA STATES THAT GOOD WILL DOESN'T EXTEND THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS VEHICLE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY WITH LIGHTS FLASHING AND A RUMBLING OF THE CAR; THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT AND MOVE OVER SO THAT WE WEREN'T HIT AS MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. I HAVE HAD TO CHANGE COILS, SPARK PLUGS HAVE MULTIPLE CANS OF OIL AVAILABLE AS IT BURNED THROUGH OIL IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES AS THOUGH THERE WAS A LEAK. NO LIGHT EVER INDICATED THAT IT WAS LOW WE JUST HAD TO CONTINUOUSLY CHECK IT FOR OIL AND IT WOULD USUALLY BE MORE THAN 1 QUART LOW. THESE PROBLEMS ALL STARED AFTER THE SUPPOSED FIX IN MAY 2019. THIS VEHICLE IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED COMPLETELY.
NOVEMBER 25TH ON MY WAY TO WORK I STARTED HEARING A RATTLE WHILE DRIVING ON HWY 30. ABOUT A MILE FROM MY HOUSE. THE NOISE DIDN'T SEAM TO BE PRESENT WHILE RPM WAS UNDER 3,000RPM SO I DECIDED TO BE CAUTIOUS OF RPM AND NOT PUSH MY CAR TOO MUCH THAT MORNING. AS I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT THE ENGINE STOPPED, AND THE OIL LIGHT FLICKERED. I STARTED THE CAR AND PARKED IT. AFTER WORK THE CAR STARTED FINE BUT AS I PULLED INTO THE ROAD I HEARD THE RATTLE AGAIN SO I WENT TO THE NEAREST PLACE I COULD TO BUY OIL. BEFORE CHECKING I PURCHASED A QUART AND FOUND OUT I HAD ENOUGH OIL IN THE CAR. THE RATTLE WAS STILL PRESENT SO I PURCHASED OIL, FILTER AND DECIDED NO HARM WOULD COME FROM REFRESHING THE OIL IN THE CAR. I KEPT MY RPM UNDER 3,000 ON MY WAY HOME AND EXPERIENCED SOME SUDDEN SPEED SHIFTS WHILE USING CRUISE CONTROL, BUT KEPT A SLOW AND STEADY PACE. AT THE TOP OF A HILL NEAR MY HOME THE ENGINE MADE SOME LOUDER NOISES AND STOPPED THAT IS THE FIRST TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I BUMPED THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND COSTED INTO MY DRIVEWAY. I LATER TOWED MY CAR TO IT'S PARKING SPOT, NOT WANTING TO MAKE A POTENTIAL ISSUES WORSE. AFTER CONSULTING WITH A MECHANIC, HE. SUGGESTED AN OIL CHANGE MAY BE THE FIRST ACTION TO FIX THE ISSUES. I CHANGED THE OIL IN PLACE AND RECORDED MY ATTEMPTS TO START THE VEHICLE AFTER. MECHANIC CONSULTANT SAID THE FIRST ATTEMPT AFTER OIL CHANGE SOUNDED LIKE A KNOCK THAT HE DID NOT THINK WOULD BE A LONG TERM ISSUE. BUT THE SECOND ATTEMPT STARTED INTO A LOWER ROD KNOCK AND ADVISED TO NOT ATTEMPT TO START THE CAR AGAIN UNTIL IT'S IN A SHOP WITH PROPER DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT.
THE 2014 SOUL HAS LESS THAN 100K MILES ON IT, BUT WHEN MY DAUGHTER TRAVELED HOME, THANKSGIVING 2020, RIGHT AS SHE PULLED INTO OUR PARKING SPOT, BOTH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON. SHE HAD JUST HAD THE SOFTWARE UPDATE TO MOVE THE CAR INTO LIMP HOME MODE IF THERE WAS ENGINE PROBLEMS, AND SURE ENOUGH, WHEN SHE WENT TO DRIVE THE CAR THE NEXT MORNING, THE CAR WAS IN LIMP HOME MODE. TOOK IT TO THE NEAREST KIA DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY INDICATED THAT THERE WAS KNOCKING NOISES COMING FROM THE ENGINE WITH A CODE P1326 AND THAT THE ENGINE LONG BLOCK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT IS COMPLETELY UNDRIVEABLE. I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO FIND OUT IF HER ENGINE IS ONE THAT IS BEING RECALLED BY KIA BUT IF IT IS NOT IT SHOULD BE.
WHILE DRIVING ON A STATE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH ON CRUISE CONTROL, I WAS COMING UP AN INCLINE WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY STARTED TO DECELERATE. I TRIED TO INCREASE MY SPEED BY APPLYING THE ACCELERATION PEDAL. THE RPMS INCREASED WITHOUT AN INCREASE IN ACCELERATION. I IMMEDIATELY PUT MY HAZARDS ON AS I WAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WITH CARS FLYING BY ME AND ATTEMPTED TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. MY CAR WOULD BARELY GO 20-30 MPH AND MY CAR STARTED TO "RUMBLE" OR "SHAKE" AS IF I WAS SEVERELY OUT OF ALIGNMENT. MY ENGINE AND OIL LIGHT ALSO CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME AS THE DECELERATION. THE ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUALLY FLASHED. WHEN I CHECKED THE OIL, IT WAS ALMOST EMPTY AND MY HUSBAND HAD JUST CHANGED THE OIL LESS THAN 30 DAYS AGO. WE HAVE ALSO BEEN HAVING TO INCREASE HOW MANY TIMES WE'RE HAVING TO ADD OIL BECAUSE I'M BURNING THROUGH IT VERY QUICKLY AND I ONLY DRIVE BACK AND FORTH TO WORK. WHEN I'D BROKEN DOWN, I WAS NOWHERE NEAR A TOWN OR CITY AND I HAD MY 3 CHILDREN IN THE CAR. I WAS SCARED AND NERVOUS TRYING TO DRIVE ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY ONLY ABLE TO GO 25 MPH WITH MY CAR SHAKING. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO GET A TOW, MY BATTERY DIED. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER JUMPED THE BATTERY AND TURNED THE CAR ON AND MY EXHAUST STARTED BILLOWING SMOKE OUT. MY CAR WON'T DRIVE NOW TO GET TO A MECHANIC AND IM TOO SCARED TO DRIVE IT. IVE ALREADY HAD 2 RECALLS ON THIS CAR AND I'D GONE TO KIA BEFORE THOSE RECALLS FOR THOSE ISSUES. I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE RECALLS FOR KIA TO FIX IT. THIS CAR JUST NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY TAKEN OFF THE ROADS! BETWEEN THE LIGHTS SHUTTING OFF AND THE ELECTRICAL FIRE IN MY ENGINE (WHICH WAS ANOTHER RECALL!) I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER KIA! I DO NOT FEEL SAFE OWNING ONE EVER AGAIN!
While driving at 15-20 mph, the engine started knocking loudly, smoked a little and died. There were NO warning lights or messages. There were NO previous symptoms, the car had been running fine and the oil and water had been checked 3 days prior. My car had never leaked or burned oil. I was able to restart it, the knocking was very loud. I was a couple miles from home so I slowly drove it home stopping 3-4 times to allow it to cool. At home I checked the oil and all had drained out except what was still dripping out underneath. A mechanic friend added oil and started it, it still knocked loudly and he thought a rod and/or rod bearing were bad. I parked it not knowing what to do yet. A little over 2 months later I was notified of recall 20V750, SC200. This was during covid. Between end of Jan 2021 (when notified) and Nov 2021, I had been quarantined 4 times and had lost my job so I couldn't afford to tow to the dealer. When I did, Nov 22,21 the dealer would not honor the recall because an update on the KSDS on the ECU was not done. The recall letter said they would do the update and repairs. I researched all letters from Kia to their dealers, other owners and NHTSA. THERE ARE NO RESTRICTIONS or conditions regarding this. ALL information states the update will be done with recall repairs, there is no time limit given (other than an offer to recieve a free Visa with update that expired 11-15-21), and suggests to do it asap. Even letters to dealer had 2 Q&A letters, each had a question if there were any restrictions on owners, the answer is no on both letters. There are NO restrictions regarding the updated ECU, the warrenty, or condition of the car. Kia DOES give the dealers instructions for cars that are towed in, if stored, if they start, if they crank. Each of these INCLUDE updating the KSDS, again making the excuse I was given false. There was NO reason the update could not be done and my car repaired PER KIA'S instructions to dealers and recall owners.
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT JUST CAME ON FOR NO REASON. DEALER STATED PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANT SENSORS BEING BAD AND THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAGS WOULD STILL DEPLOY BUT PASSENGER WON'T. DEALER ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR TO BE APPROXIMATELY $1,500. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 77,000 MILES. KIA HAS A HISTORY OF ISSUES WITH THIS AND IT SEEMS THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM SO THAT CONSUMERS AREN'T FORCED TO PAY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR A REPAIR TO A CRITICAL SAFETY MECHANISM. SINCE I CANNOT AFFORD THIS LARGE EXPENSE AT THIS TIME, I'M BEING FORCED TO CONTINUE USING THE VEHICLE AS IS.

I THEN PROCEEDED DOWN THE HIGH WAY TO THE NEXT EXIT TO PULL OFF AND CHECK MY OIL. BEFORE I MADE IT TO MY EXIT. THE MOTOR HAD LOSS OF POWER. WHEN I'D TRY TO ACCELERATE, IT WOULD BOG DOWN. RIGHT AS I WAS ABOUT TO TAKE A TURN ONTO MY EXIT THE MOTOR STOPPED AND DIED SO I COASTED AS FAR AS A COULD AND HAD TO PUSH IT OUT OF THE ROAD. WHEN I EXAMINED MY OIL IT WAS METALLIC. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 80,000 MILES ON IT. WITH ABOUT 1500 MILES ON MY OIL CHANGE.(5-20W FULL SYNTHETIC).
HEADLIGHTS FLICKER OR GO OFF WITH NO WARNING. IN ADDITION, ALL INTERIOR LIGHTS AND DISPLAYS FLICKER AT THE SAME TIME. THIS HAS HAPPENED BOTH WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND STOPPED. THE RADIO AND COOLING/HEATING SYSTEM DO NOT APPEAR TO BE IMPACTED. THIS HAS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY, AND TONIGHT THEY WENT BLACK AND STAYED OFF UNTIL I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF MY CAR, THEN STARTED IT AGAIN. I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED. THE DEALERSHIP IS NOT RETURNING MY CALLS TO TELL ME IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, UNDER RECALL, OR MY RESPONSIBILITY.

The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V750000 (Engine) and a manufacturer's product improvement campaign software update however, the failure occurred. The contact stated that on three separate occasions while driving at 60 mph, there was a rattling sound heard then the vehicle loss motive power without warning. The instrument panel light and front driver’s and passenger’s side headlights flickered on and off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that there was a rod bearing knocking code that appeared on the code reader however, there were no oil leaks found. An oil consumption test was performed which found that the vehicle consumed a quart of oil for every thousand miles. An engine test was also performed, which the vehicle passed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no warranty coverage and advised the contact to drive the vehicle until the engine seized. The failure mileage was 93,000.

The contact stated that while activating the high-beam headlights, the driver’s side high-beam headlight failed to illuminate as needed. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who determined that the driver’s and passenger’s side headlight assemblies had overheated and melted. The headlight assemblies and light bulbs were replaced but the failure eventually reoccurred. The contact stated that the light bulbs and headlight assemblies were replaced on several occasions. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 100,000.
WHEN I WAS DRIVING TODAY DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR STARTED TO JERK WHILE I PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR. THE ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN TO BLINK CONTINUOUSLY. I GET HOME SAFELY AND THE CAR IS STILL SHAKING. SO I TAKE IT FOR AN ENGINE TESTING AND COME TO FIND OUT CYLINDER 3 IS MISFIRING AND NOW THE CAR WON'T EVEN PULL THE HILL.

MY FIANCE AND I WERE DRIVING WE PULLED ONTO THE BUSY HIGHWAY IN JOPLIN MISSOURI THE CAR JUST STALLED OUT AND DIED OUT OF NOWHERE..NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS NO WARNINGS JUST DIED WOULD NOT START BACK UP MY FIANCE FINALLY GOT IT TO START BACK UP IT MADE IT TWO MILES THEN STALLED AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION!! I HAD MY TWO GIRLS WITH ME IT WAS POURING RAIN WE HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE TO SAFETY!! STUCK WITH TOW FEES SHOP FEES NOW ONLY TO FIND OUT A WEEK AFTER THIS HAPPENED THAT A RECALL HAS BEEN PUT OUT FOR THE SAME THING THAT HAPPENED TO US!! WE CALLED KIA IMMEDIATELY THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING AND WANT US TO PAY AGAIN TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP SO THEIR MECHANIC CAN INSTALL A SOFTWARE THEN DIAGNOSE IT THEMSELVES!! DAMAGE ALREADY DONE AND THEYRE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THEIR SCREW UP!! THEY SHOULD BE SUED!
LOSES ACCELERATION GOING UPHILL. KNOCKS AND RATTLES WHEN CAR IS TURNED ON. PREVIOUS CAR WAS A SORENTO AND DID THE SAME. SHUT OFF ON ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY WITH MY CHILDREN AND MYSELF IN IT. FELT LIKE THE ENGINE FELL OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. I SEEING THE BEGINNING PHASES OF THE SAME ISSUE WITH MY SOUL. IM SCARED THAT THIS CAR WILL NOT ONLY SHUT OFF ON ME WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY BUT THAT IT MAY COST ME MY LIFE IF SOMEONE WERE TO REAREND ME WHEN MY CAR LOSES POWER TO AN ISSUE NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM MAY BE. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON ALL KIA ENGINES AND IS POOR MANUFACTURING. MAJOR ISSUES WITH THIS BRAND OF CAR IS THE ELECTRICAL, ENGINE AND THAT IT SUCKS UP SO MUCH OIL WITHOUT WARNING.
MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH SHIFTING INTO GEARS- IVE HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED AND THE SYSTEM KEEPS TELLING ME THAT THE SPARK PLUGS/IGNITION COILS ARE BAD - IVE REPLACED THEM MULTIPLE TIMES AND IT KEEPS GIVING ME THE SAME RESPONSE. EVEN WHEN I REPLACE THAT PART, THE VEHICLE KEEPS DOING THE SAME THING. THE VEHICLE KEEPS IDLING VERY HARD. THE VEHICLE SPUTTERS WHEN TRYING TO SHIFT AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SHIMMIES.
I WAS DRIVING. I CAME TO A RED LIGHT. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WENT. I PUSHED ON GAS. THE PERSON N FRONT OF ME HIT BRAKES. I HIT MY BRAKES, FELT A HUGE JOLT. CAR ACCELERATED AND WAS NOT BRAKING. I SLAMMED INTO THE BACK OF VEHICLE. I WAS WEARING A SELTBELT, BUT MY KNEES SLAMMED INTO DASHBOARD. AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF WHICH EVERYONE WAS SURPRISED BY THIS. I ENDED AT HOSPITAL WITH A CONCUSSION, INJURIES TO MY KNEES, RIGHT ANKLE..ETC MY 2014 KIA SOUL HAS BEEN DETERMINED TO BE TOTALLED. I HAVE CONTACTED YOU PREVIOUSLY STATING MY VEHICLE HAD ISSUES THAT WERE A SAFETY HAZARD. I WAS TOLD TO KEEP CHECKING FOR MY VIN TO GET ADDED TO A RECALL LIST. NOW THIS HAS HAPPENED. I WAS ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL AS WELL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 KIA SOUL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST PIPE WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF ENGINE OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 126,000.
