The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the vehicle was experiencing the failure listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V608000 (Steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 81,900.
WHEN OIL CHANGED, BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS NO OIL IN CAR. NO WARNING LIGHTS COME ON. OIL HAS TO BE ADDED BEFORE NEXT OIL CHANGE DUE. NOT ON RECALL LIST BUT HAVING SAME PROBLEMS AS OTHER 2016 KIA SOULS WITH IT BURNING OIL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON FOR CATALYTIC CONVERTER - BUT DOES NOT STAY ON.
I keep my car very well maintained I get oil changes n filters every 3 to 5000- miles and supposedly this recall was done I have this problem now out of no where.. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CATALYTIC CONVERTOR Recall Created: Feb 26, 2019 Owners Notified: Apr 17, 2019 Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CATALYTIC CONVERTOR Recall Summary: Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2012-2016 Kia Soul vehicles equipped with 1.6L Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines. High exhaust gas temperatures may damage the catalytic converter, possibly resulting in abnormal engine combustion and damage to one or more of the engine's pistons and possible piston connecting rod failure. Consequence: Piston damage may result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash. A broken connecting rod may puncture the engine block allowing engine oil to escape. The leaking oil may contact the exhaust, increasing the risk of a fire. Corrective Action: Kia will notify owners, and dealers will upgrade the Catalytic Overheating Protection Engine Control Unit logic to prevent overheating of the catalytic converter. In addition, the catalytic converter will also be replaced if it has been damaged. Depending on the extent of any damage, the engine may also be replaced, free of charge. The recall began April 17, 2019. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC176. Other Notes: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov
My car suddenly caught fire. I am assuming it was the engine because the fire started under the hood of the car. I never received any information regarding a recall or a safety issue but when the Vin was checked by my insurance inspector the recall came up.
Catalytic converter stopped up. Unknown for the other. Took it to Kia place to get the recalls fixed and they denied fixing either problems and charged me 245$ to put my car back together.
On a rainy night, I lost all external visibility due to excessive condensation on the front windshield and the other windows on the car seemingly made worse by utilizing the de-fogger on my car. Of the result of this, I ended up in opposing lanes of traffic and narrowly avoided head on collisions with several vehicles. I am a professional driver with thousands of hours behind the wheel and I know how to react in nearly every emergency situation due to advanced experience and quality training. Upon further research, I discovered that this issue is amongst the more commonly reported complaints on the soul forums most commonly attributed to a design flaw in the Air conditioner drain where the drain line is built too small and tends to become clogged. Component failure: AC Drain Line. Safety risk: complete loss of external visibility resulting in high potential for a head on collision with opposing traffic. Reproduction: Unknown. Inspected: no MILs Illuminated: none.
Cylinder 3 went out in the engine and car seized. Prior to this the car burned through oil very quickly and the entire car would shake. Kia of El Cajon said it was not an engine issue, my car was totaled and I sold it for scraps. Very disappointed with the service during this time.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 113,613.
The Catalytic Convertor clogged and issues with excess oil consumption This is an issue I have seen and heard of from many other Kia Soul owners as well. I have the repair bill if needed
Ive gotten 3-4 tuneups every year for the past 4 years. Each year the car randomly shuts off and start running rough they change the coil packs and the spark plugs but every year I drive locally and not far yearly but I still have to get tune ups, 3rd party insurance and state farm spent a total of 12-14k of electrical wiring the doors were controlling the A/C the lights would flicker when trying to turn on A/C. The windows stopped working wouldnt go up or down, the A/C heat wouldnt work this was work everything new and rewired Kia of Anderson kept the car for 4-5 weeks and I had to turn around 2 days later bring it back because the doors and A/C and heat repeated the same thing, they changed the door panel on driver side and 4-5 months ago A/C heat stopped working randomly while my kids were waiting on bus one moring and couldnt use the heat...contacting Kia they said they were booked for a couple of weeks then, I would call get voicemails over and over and then I finally drove up there and they stated it may be the air resistor but then, under the car i hit a ditch where road work was being done on a one way in one way out street for 3 months cause the already loose muffler to cause the rest of the vehicle to not work. The A/C when on my son nose bleeds everytime if we are in the car for longer than 45 min to an hour. My daughter get migraines headaches dizzy spells when A/C heat is on, so do i. Also there is a random weird smell randomly off and on not everyday but atleast 12 days out of the month...scared to drive the car sometimes. Last week twice the car shut off once on the bridge randomly and then turned back on. Also, if i drive the car for more than 30-45 min my left leg swells with fluid never happened in any other vehicle...random devices can connect to my radio without me authorizing it..strange but i can wake up and have to delete a Windows or MAC desktop from radio, when using the radio the same ads play over and over not sure why we have to turn it
The engine has an oil consumption issue. It cause the vehicle to run out of oil about 4000 miles after an oil change. This caused the a lose of power while I driving down the interstate. After speaking with the dealership and opening a case with Kia motors, they stated that consumption of 1 qt of oil ever 1000 miles is NORMAL. This most definitely is not normal and can cause premature wear and tear on the engine and the catalytic converter system.
While I was driving the vehicle shut off and stopped, leaving me in the middle of the road in heavy traffic. I then received a recall from kia that the engine would do just that. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership and both them and the manufacturer have told me they refuse to fix the recall. The check engine light came on and was blinking the day the car broke down.
Without any warning, while driving at night on interstate, MIL started blinking and engine lost power and was experiencing vibration. This is exactly as described would happen in KIA PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN letter I received regarding engine malfunction. KIA knew about this and abnormal engine oil consumption. We did regular maintenance and oil changes, even adding oil between oil changes.
Vehicle looses power. Sounds muffled and noisy. Engine knocking. Does not shift as it should. Engine gets hot, dash board got hot yesterday. Where is the oil going? No check engine lights. Started approx a month after I had the kia dealer do the computer update. Seems to occur with hills, Excelleration, when it has to work. I had a tune up, fluids changed, mechanic gave up. Kia said I had to take it to a kia dealer.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle stalled with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to her residence. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number 19V120000 (Engine, Engine, and Engine Cooling) for which the VIN was included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
as i was heading home from work , about 12 miles into road, vehicle started loosing power, and at it would turn engine off at stop lights, and it would turn back on, and started shaking and running under 40 miles an hour, the next day , warranty was able to tow it to the manufacture dealership service, the service adviser called and said it was the engine, its been three weeks and the issues has not been resolved due to warranty not wanting to pay for repairs.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The check engine and battery warning lights were illuminated and flashing. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that an engine replacement was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was contacted and informed him he had failed to complete a software update. The contact stated he was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, he slowed down for another vehicle, as the contact resumed the speed the engine started knocking and the oil pressure light was illuminated. The contact pulled over safely to the side of the road and turned the vehicle off. When the contact attempted to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to restart. The contact had the vehicle towed to the local dealer however, the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,400.
The rotating contactor switch for the heat/air conditioning fan on the dashboard appears to get very hot on the internal side. This resulted in discoloration of the plugs on the back side of the control panel, and melting of the contactor housing within the control box. No modifications have been made to this system to my knowledge, and no fuses were burned out prior to the dial failing, due to the melting plastic creating an air gap between the contactor terminals. Half of the plastic on the housing appears to be a heat resistant glass reinforced polyamide, and the (melted) half appears to be made of standard ABS plastic. This implies engineering expected this component to get hot, but still cut costs irresponsibly by using cheaper ABS in hope that the other half of this component would not get hot enough to melt (or potentially catch fire, had the plastic not melted away in a fashion that simply disconnected the contactors). I believe this case is not unique, as failures of this component appear common online. However I believe the true cause of failure (and potential risk of fire from the heat) has not yet been identified due to this contactor being located within a sealed control board assembly.
Catalytic converter needed to be replaced at 98,914 miles in my 2016 2.0 L ( Cost me $3,144.78 since out of warranty). Oil consumption seems to be a big problem too. I usually change oil every 3 months, regardless of mileage, but this car needs it every 2 months. Dealer recommended using synthetic oil. No warning lights, car wouldn't go over 35 mph on highway. I have another Soul (2010) I bought new, it has 280,000 miles and it runs better and only uses regular oil.
Catalytic converters are plugged. Vehicle slowed down. Unable to keep speed up on highway.
I purchased my 2016 Kia Soul + on 1/2019 with 32973 miles on it. On 2/25/22 while driving on the highway my car suddenly and unexpectedly jolted and lost power. I didn’t understand what happened and when I looked down I saw the engine light flashing.I immediately pulled off the highway stopped and called the dealer. It had 53068 miles on it. They updated knock sensor but didn’t actually repair or replace engine. On 6/16/22 at 55,060 miles my car suddenly lost power as I was driving. I looked down and the engine light started flashing. I immediately pulled over and called a tow truck to tow to the dealer. It was a 100 degree day and I had to wait over 2hours for a tow truck. Suntrup Kia replaced the knock sensor again. No repair or replacement of the engine. On 9/3/2022 I had just got off the highway and was heading to meet friends when my car suddenly lost power and again the engine light started flashing and I immediately pulled over and called a tow truck to take to the dealers. It had 57,??? Miles on it. It has been at the dealers for almost 7 weeks now in dispute with the warranty company (I have 2 warranties) about replacing the engine. I’m told the piston rings are defective and caused scoring on the cylinders which caused oil leakage and excessive consumption. A known Kia defect that they have not issued a recall for. The Kia loyalty warranty is disputing with the dealer that they should have to fix it. The dealer disassembled the engine at the warranty company’s request. The warranty co. inspected it 2-3 times and seen that it was the piston rings. The dealer Suntrup Kia of St. Louis has the report. It is very unsafe to drive as I never know when it will occur again. Or if this time it will catch on fire. It occurred 3 times in approximately 6.5 months in all different conditions. I avoid driving on the highway and I get very nervous if a car is following too closely. I avoid having anyone else with me because this is an extreme life threatening problem.
While trying to pass or accelerate at 55+ MPH, car would start to loose acceleration/engine power. Loud hissing noise from engine area. After taking car to dealership was informed that the Catalytic converter was damaged and now out of warranty by 8000 miles. Other 2016 Kia Soul models were recalled because of the same issue. But my model was not. This seems like an issue that should be covered/recalled. The car seems to be "burning" oil at a high rate. Full synthetic oil changes are showing a burning of oil at only 1000 miles, and oil is low at the 3000 mile oil change.
My wife is driving our car down the street, dropping my daughter off at daycare when all of a sudden, the car does not want to do over 15 miles per hour and she almost gets rear ended. We have the car towed home and i check it later on on the evening once I’m off work. I think the engine and catalytic converters is gone. It only has 81,169 miles.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the clutch pedal was vibrating. The contact was able to turn on the vehicle and drive a short distance before the failure recurred. The contact drove with the intermittent failure to the local dealer. The local dealer diagnosed the vehicle with needing the catalytic converter to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V120000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 118,836.
Check engine on. Code of catalytic converter. It was changed at Velazquez auto repair in Milwaukee WI, but now the engine is burning oil fast it lasts less than 2000 miles after each oil and filter change. I can't afford another car and Im disabled. My VIN is not included in the recall but my car was impacted, I've spent $1,780 on the catalytic converter already. Please help!
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. No warning light was illuminated. The contact was adding seven quarts of oil every 3,000 miles driven. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine was leaking engine oil. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
My vehicle is a 2016 Kia Soul+ 2.0L engine. It is experiencing oil pressure failure in cylinder #1. A certified mechanic has diagnosed this as oil ring failure. KIA has a recall on the same model with the 1.6L engine, but there have been many instances of the 2.0L experiencing the same failure, but not being recalled. My vehicle has been well maintained, regularly serviced and not abused. My mechanic has had two other customers in less than a year experiencing this failure in the same engine. Vehicle has had loss of power along with oil pressure indicator light flashing. Car only remotely operates normal with in ECO mode. My local KIA dealership has not wanted to be helpful in any of these three cases. For the 1.6L that is recalled, owners who have this type of failure have had new engines installed. KIA America and my local dealership have not wanted to address this option. Said vehicle has sale value of $5,000 while this sort of repair would cost upwards of $9,000 if handled privately. As it stands, my repair bill is over $600 without actually fixing the problem that mechanic says will lead to complete engine failure. It would benefit myself and the other owners of Kia Soul+ 2.0L if the automaker would include these engines in the same recall as the KIA Soul+ 1.6L. As it stands, my vehicle cannot be sold in current condition and cannot be repaired due to very high cost. Any help from a government agency in encouraging KIA to include these KIA Soul+ 2.0L automobiles would be a great help to an untold number of US consumers experiencing this issue. It is simply too costly to repair on our own.
2/1/22 Vehicle was taken in for a power issue or transmission issue. Manahawkin Kia, NJ service department determined it to be a Catalytic Convertor clog. with a estimated $2,230 to replace. Dealership allegedly did 360 service check. The vehicle was taken home for second opinions. Other certified independent mechanics agreed that the CAT was clogged, but recommended a compression leak down check since there was no motor oil in the engine. It is important to note that the KIA service claim to have done a 360 check. However, there was no engine oil in the motor. Further, ever since KIA did the SC#176 RECALL the motor has burned oil somehow. WE believe that KIA is at fault and the SC#176 RECALL damaged the vehicle without doubt. KIA of America should be held accountable for our loss as well as anyone who has similar issues with the KIA motor.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. The vehicle was consuming one quart of oil per 3,000 miles. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was notified of several trouble codes. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and an oil change service was performed; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was concerned that the dealer was adding too much oil to the vehicle. Additionally, the contact was concerned about being stranded. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000. The dealer stated they would replace the engine but the contact had to replace the catalytic converter.
My catalytic converter has gone out 3 times! There has to be something wrong more than just normal wear and tear
Threw a piston through my engine block on the way to work dropped all the oil and lost all power and caused smoking from the exhaust pipe and engine bay on the freeway. Took it to a vehicle repair shop and thats what they diagnosed it as. I then took it to the dealer ship to have the same diagnoses.
I brought in car for a recall notice on the engine component the check engine light came on stop driving it and scheduled an appointment to have the car serviced and have the recall done and now the dealership is refusing to do the repairs associated with the recall because I did not get a software update in a timely manner but there is no stimulation saying that the recall is void if I do not get the software update I did not know about the software update I was never contacted about any of this and now the dealership is refusing to do the repair job
Catalytic Converter overheated causing a fire beneath the car.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated to 20 MPH. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to exceed 20 MPH while driving uphill. Additionally, the vehicle was overheating. The check engine and oil level warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with the catalytic converter needing to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The independent mechanic informed the contact of an unknown recall and suggested that the vehicle be taken to an authorized dealer for repair. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who performed a multi-point inspection and software update however, no parts were replaced. The contact stated that the failure returned and that the vehicle was overheating with the check engine and oil warning lights illuminated. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,633.
when i first checked my oil before i went on vacation. The oil dip stick showed no oil at all. i called the dealership and told them about it. I was informed that the 1026 kia souls had a issue with burning oil and that my car would have to go through a oil consumption test. over the course of the test my car burned over 2 1/2 quarts of oil and not counting how much the oil was down when i first brought it to them. the last time i brought it they said what kia sent out was that the oil is within the normal range of burning oil. my car had only 63,000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power without warning. The contact stated that prior to losing power, the vehicle had started making a loud grinding sound coming from the engine. The vehicle rolled to stop and the contact placed the transmission into park. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to restart. The contact had the vehicle towed to his residence and then later had the vehicle towed to a local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact was referred to the manufacturer by the dealer. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer also stated that the vehicle was not under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 93,644.
The car lost power suddenly while I was on highway I had a semi truck almost hit me it's the second time it's happened and I had to replace catalytic converter twice and I just got it back from Kia dealership in hurst tx it's still making the ticking noise I heard after they replaced the catylic converter the first time they also didn't look into finding out why my Kia soul is using so much oil it burns up fast like in three days from an oil change I'm almost out completely I feel like I would like it if you guys could give me a more reliable car I have a child and I can't keep losing all power while on the highway
Loses power and dies also uses alot of oil and a day after oil change I have to get more oil in it the first month I had the car it died the first week and lost power on the highway the said the Cadillac converter was clogged
A broken connecting rod caused the Kia Soul 2016 engine to fail in a 2.0L engine, which seems to be the same issue as the 1.6L engine affected by a 2019 recall. The problem was diagnosed at a Kia Dealership by a mechanic. If the engine fail had happened on a highway rather than a neighborhood street, it could have definitely resulted in a crash and injury.
DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY OTHER MOTORIST FLAGGED ME DOWN TO TELL ME i HAD A FIRE UNDER NEATH, FIRE DEPT WAS CALLED TO PUT OUT. TOWED TO AUTOMOTIVE SHOP WHERE THEY SAID THEY PUT ON SCAN TOOL TO PULL CODE CODE SHOWS SIGNS OF JUMPED TIMING, PUT UP ON HOIST AND FOUND ROD HAD BENT AND PUT HOLE IN ENGINE. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON
On December 20. 2021. I was driving my daughter home from college in Alabama when after roughly 2-1/2 hours we reached Meridian MS. While travelling on Interstate 20, we were surprised to hear a severe knocking suddenly & the engine began to die. I would like to reiterate we were on the Interstate at posted speed of 70 mph, when I was forced to maneuver through a number of Semi-Trucks while our speed was rapidly declining. Once towed to the dealership I was informed of a hole in the engine block and there is a "Product Improvement" PI20023 regarding the knock sensor. But this is not a recall, so since I didn't get the software update my car is not covered. What I am completely perplexed about is the fact they know there is a malfunction that can damage the engine while driving. This issue literally put mine and my daughters in jeopardy. How can this not be a safety recall.
I took my car into the dealer for the COP logic recall with the ECU. Ever since that fix, every time I start my car when it’s cold outside it idles high. If the ambient temperature goes below 50 degrees or so when I turn the key to start the car the RPM jumps to almost 4K at cold it stays high for about a minute until it eventually settles around 1k. It only does this when it’s cold out and it never did it before that fix. Sometimes it will set off the MIL with the code P050A when this happens.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle began to decelerate. The contact depressed the accelerator and the vehicle did not respond. The contact was able to safely pull off of the roadway. The contact turned the vehicle off and on and continued driving until the vehicle stalled. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the oil level was very low. The independent mechanic refilled the engine oil reservoir. The contact noticed that the oil level was dropping continually by checking the oil dip stick. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while accelerating from a stop at 10 MPH, a rod bearing had blown through her engine without warning. The contact had the vehicle initially towed to her home. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on her vehicle. The contact then had the vehicle towed to the dealer where they confirmed the failure as another rod bearing had blown through the engine as the vehicle was being driven into the service garage. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was 89,912.
For a week or two when I turned the heated seat on I would often feel a very intense heat from the seat back when it started up for a period of time. I had just recently had a back injury so I thought perhaps my back was being overly sensitive. Finally on the 27th just after I started driving the car in the morning I felt the burning feeling on my back again and stuck my hand behind me to feel the seat. I felt burning on my hand and pain and yanked my hand away immediately, pulled over, and looked behind me at the seat, in time to see a curl of smoke coming out of a small hole on the back of the seat. I also found that the palm of my hand had a small mark beneath the base of my thumb where I had felt the burning pain. It took at least half an hour for the burning sensation to fade. I also detected an odor of smoke for a bit afterward. I had no warning that this was going to happen other than the burning feeling the heated seat had started to generate upon my back- no warning lights or such. I have not had any service done on the problem yet though I intend to contact Kia soon; so the car is currently in the same state although obviously I don't turn the heated seat on anymore since I don't want things in my car to be on fire.
i have a 2016 Kia Soul EV+. The Hghi Voltage Battery Pack Assembly is malfunctioning and it only charges to 30 percent or a 30-mile range. It should charge to a 90-mile range. While driving, it suddenly drops from a 25-mile range to an 18- mile range, I sometimes smell an electrical burning smell. When the battery gets down to an 18-mile range. it suddenly starts to drop dramatically. The car goes into a turtle mode and cannot even reach 20 miles per hour. KIA has issued an IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL INTERIM NOTICE for this problem, and I contacted a KIA dealership to resolve the issue. According to the notice, KIA is supposed to replace the defective battery. I have put in three service requests, but I have not heard back from kIA after the initial contacts. I cannot drive this vehicle like this, and I am making payments on it. I am requesting assistance with this problem.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, he became aware that the vehicle was not calculating accurate EV range and was fluctuating abnormally. After closer observation, the contact became aware that the vehicle was unable to reach a FULL charge and would only reach 80% charge. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the charging system. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V218000 (Electrical System), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 33,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Kia Soul. The contact stated that she was constantly adding oil in the vehicle. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated and remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and an unknown software update was performed and the DTC code was erased. The contact believed that the failure was related to the catalytic converter. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
