CAR HAS LOST POWER IN 1ST AND 2ND GEARS, ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, CAR SMOKES, REPLACED TWO 02 SENSORS, TAPPING NOISE UNDER HOOD WHEN START ENGINE, CAR WOULD NOT START, ONCE STARTED HAD GAS SMELL, AND BLEW SMOKE OUT EXHAUST
I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE OLD DEALER AT LEASE THREE TIMES; NEW DEALER THREE TIMES, THE LAST TIME I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD HAVE TO CHECK WITH KIA TO SEE IF THEY WOULD HONOR THE WARRANTY. I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM! I NOW HAVE 44,300 MILES ON IT.NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED. *AK
CONSUMER STARTING HAVING PROBLEMS AT 13,000 MILES. HAD EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER STOPPED THE NOISE BUT, ENGINE CHECK LIGHT STILL COMES ON.*AK
THIS VEHICLE STALLED OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME 1 WEEK AFTER I BOUGHT IT.(OCT 28, 1999) I CONTACTED KIA REGARDING THIS PROBLEM WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENED. I HAVE BEEN TO 2 DIFFERENT AUTHORIZED REPAIR CENTERS AND BOTH REPORT THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. HOWEVER I SEE SIMILAR PROBLEMS BEING REPORTED BY OTHER CONSUMERS. ON FOUR OCCASIONS WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF 60 MPH OR MORE, TRANSMISSION JUMPED OUT OF GEAR INTO NEUTRAL. VEHICLE BEEN IN/OUT OF DEALER SHOP ON FOUR OCCASIONS, AND NOTHING COULD BE FOUND. *AK
CONNSUMER WAS TRAVELING 55MPH ON HIGHWAY, AND SAID THAT VEHICLE WAS TURNING RIGHT ON HIGHWAY WITHOUT TURNING WHEELS. VEHICLE WAS TURNING ON ITS OWN DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM. BUT,MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM.*AK THE VEHICLE HAD OTHER PROBLEMS ALSO. THERE WERE ELECTRICAL SHOCKS WHEN PLACING KEY IN IGNITION. THE BATTERY WAS LOSING POWER FOR UNKNOWN REASON. THERE WAS A CLICKING SOUND ON RIGHT FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. *YH
AIR BAG LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON, VEHICLE BEEN IN DEALER SHOP ON FOUR OCCASIONS FOR REPAIRS; EACH TIME DEALER WOULD INFORM CONSUMER REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED, AND EACH TIME AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD COME BACK ON. CURRENTLY, WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED, BUT AIR BAG CHECK LIGHT WOULD NOT COME ON UPON STARTING VEHICLE. *AK THE DEALER LEFT THE AIR BAG UNHOOKED DURING THE PREVIOUS REPAIR. IT WAS HOOKED BACK UP BUT THE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING AGAIN ONE WEEK LATER. *YH
TIMING BELT JUMPED ONE TOOTH CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRANK BUT NOT START. NLM
TL* - THE CONTACT HAS A 2000 KIA SPORTAGE AND COMPLAIND ABOUT TJHE FUEL PUMP AND GAS TANK WHICH WERE REPLACED ON 1/10/07 BECAUSE THE GAS TANK WAS RUSTED AND THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING GAS. THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE PARTS FROM THE DEALER AND THEY WERE INSTALLED BY THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND. THE FAILURE MILAGES WAS143500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 144000. *AK

THE VEHICLE PULLS SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT AND IF THE STEERING WHEEL IS LET GO FOR A FEW SECONDS THE VEHICLE TRAVELS TO THE RIGHT. NLM
WHEN PARKING VEHICLE AND PULLING OUT THE KEY NOTICED THAT KEY WAS VERY HOT. GLOVE COMPARTMENT WAS ALSO VERY HOT. THERE WAS A NOISE IN THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN TRYING TO TURN. CONSUMER TOOK CAR TO DEALER, AND DEALER SAID THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING IN STEERING COLUMN THATWAS WRONG. THERE WAS TOO MUCH PLAY IN STEERING. *AK
HAVE HAD VEHICLE IN FOR BRAKE SERVICE 9X IN 2 YRS. ONLY 20 K MILES ON CAR.(2000 KIA SPORTAGE). 13 TIMES TOTAL FOR SERVICE . REPLACED ROTORS 3X AND NOW HAVE PROBLEMS AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP YORK CHRYSLER KIA HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS WERE LOOSE 3X. THEY TOLD US THEY NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. BUT IT HAPPENED 3X TO US. THE 4 WHEEEL DRIVE WENT OUT. THEY SAID IT HAPPENS SINCE THERE IS NO DIRT SHIELD ON THE LINKAGE. THEY INSTALLED A RETROFIT KIT TO PROTECT AGAINST THIS BUT ONLY DO IT IF PEOPLE HAVE PROBLEMS. I THINK THEY ARE TRYING TO GET OUT OF HAVING A RECALL ON THIS ITEM. WITH OUR KIA THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE BRAKE ASSEMBLEY AFTER ONLYU 3206 MI. WE HAD THE CAR IN 3X AFTER THAT FOR BRAKE SQUEEL WHICH WAS EXCESSIVE. THEY COULD NOT FIX IT. THEY REPLACED THE ROTORS AGAIN AT 10456 MILES. AT 12552 MILES THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE WENT OUT. AT 15882 MI THEY CHECKED AGAIN FOR BRAKE PULSATION AND BALANCED FRONT TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEM. SAID BRAKE AND ROTOR RUNOUT WELL WITHIN SPECS. AT 17488 HAD ROTORS REPLACED AGAIN. NOT EVEN 2K MILES AFTER THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS WELL WITHIN SPECS. AT 20473 MILES BRAKE ROTOR WERE PULSING AGAIN. THEY WOULD NOT COVER UNDER WARRANTY. AFTER TALKING WITH KIA (CASE #K129955) THEY AGREED TO MACHINE THE ROTORS AGAIN USING THE ON CAR LATHE TO GET A BETTER FINISH. AT 20783 COMPLAINED ABOUT BRAKE PULSING AGAIN. AND AM GOING TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN AGAIN TO FIND OUT WHAT IS GOING ON. I THINK THERE IS AN UNDERLING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT THEY CANNOT FIGURE OUT. AT 7571 MI, 13777MI, AND AGAIN AT 20783 MI, THE WHEEL BEARINGS WERE LOOSE. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR JUST LIKE THE ROTORS.

2000 KIA SPORTAGE WITH GAS TANK LEAK. CONSUMER STATES THAT HE IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR FUEL TANK REPAIRS. KIA STATES THAT THEY WILL NOT REIMBURSE DUE TO THE LEAK NOT BEING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FUEL TANK. *KB THE CONSUMER BELIEVED HEAVY ROAD SALT MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE CORROSION OF THE GAS TANK, HOWEVER THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO PROVE THAT WAS THE CASE.*JB
2000 KIA SPORTAGE FUEL TANK LEAK. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAD A FUEL LEAK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK DUE TO RUST/DETERIORATION. *JB
THIE DIAGRAM ON PAGE 6-5 IN THE OWNERS MANUAL SHOWS THE WRONG WAY FOR CONNECTING JUMPER CABLES, COULD CAUSE BATTERY TO EXPLODE. NLM
AT ANY TIME FUEL PUSHES OUT OF THE FUEL TANK, CAUSING SOME FUEL TO LEAK OUT ONTO THE OUTSIDE, AND SOME ON THE INSIDE OF VEHICLE . DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
WHILE DRIVING DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR FLEW OPEN. CONSUMER SAID THAT THE HINGES ARE NOT MOUNTED CORRECTLY. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
INTERMITTENTLY WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
I CALLED KIA TO REPORT THE 4TH TIME THE 02 CENSOR DIED.THEY DID NOT GIVE ME ANY SATISFACTORY ANSWER. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE GARAGE 5 TIMES ALREAD. THEY ALSO HAVE TO RELPACE THE COMPUTER MODULATOR.
FRONT RIGHT TIRE HAS GONE FLAT TWICE WITHIN THE LAST 30 DAYS, ONCE WHILE DRIVING, AND ONCE WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. KIA HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED.*AK

BRAKE CALIPER ARM CRACKED, CAUSING BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS TO PREMATURELY WEAR. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
CONSUMER HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE IN THE REAR END CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END FRAME AND FIRE WALL AREA, BOTH OF THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY, NO INJURIES INDICATED ON THE REPORT. *MJS
AFTER THE INSPECTION OF VEHICLE BY DEALER IT WAS DETERMINED THAT FUEL TANK AND PUMP HAVE RUSTED. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.*AK
ENGINE CHECK LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED, INDICATING A MALFUNCTION WITHIN SYSTEM, CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
WE HAVE GONE THROUGH 3 SETS OF FRONT BRAKES IN JUST 32000 MILES WITH NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. DEALER HAS REPLACED BUT HAS OFFERED NO REASONABLE EXPLICATION FOR THE CONTINUED WEAR. THE FIRST REPLACEMENT AT APPROXIMATELY 22000 MILES INCLUDED THE ROTORS BECAUSE THE DISCS HAD "EATEN" THEM. *AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT WATER AND AIRFLOW WAS ENTERING INSIDE THE VEHICLE, DEALER REPLACED WEATHER STRIP, WHICH CAUSED PASSENGER DOOR TO ADJAR, ADJUSTED STRIKER AND DOOR STILL IS NOT CLOSING PROPERLY. *YD

WHILE DRIVING THEIR WAS A GRINDING NOISE FROM THE BRAKES. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE BRAKE PADS REPLACE, AND WAS INFORMED AT THAT TIME BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE FRONT BRAKE PAD HAD FALLEN OFF THE SHOE AND DESTROYED THE ROTOR. THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE PAD ALSO FELL APART WHEN THE DEALERSHIP WAS REMOVING IT. TS

THE SPARE TIRE BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH,SPARE TIRE WAS ON VEHICLE AT TIME, AND DAMAGED OTHER VEHICLE COMPONENTS. THIS RESULTED IN LOSS OF CONTROL, AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH THERE WAS A NOISE FROM THE LEFT FRONT TIRE, THEN THE BRAKES LOCKED UP. FRONT TIRE ALMOST CAME COMPLETELY OFF THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE.*AK
THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT REAR SEAT BELT WAS HANGING AND NOT RETRACTED INTO THE HOLSTER. CONSUMER PULLED ON THE BELT SEVERAL TIMES BUT BELT FAILED TO RETRACT. *AK
