My Sportage SX started to slow in an off-ramp & then died completely stranding me in traffic. 2/13/22 is when this happened. Dealer is saying that engine pressure caused a spark plug to break & batter the cylinder. Resolve is a factory warranty engine block. Still waiting on the engine part, a month later.
Vehicle basically activates Traction control System while going 70 to 85 on highway. Basically feels like you hit a decent sized bump. Then the car activates downhill brake control which limits the RPMs of the vehicle. The TCS and DBC lights remain on requiring you to pull over. Once the engine is restart the lights disappear for the time being until is occurs on the highway again. Happened 4 times in one day. Didn't happen when the car shop drove it... about to go to the dealership...who probably knows less.
I was sitting in my driveway in my car and the windshield started cracking from the bottom. The crack has spread in both directions across my windshield. Visibility is not as good as the crack is in my line of vision.
I have taken my 2017 kia sportage in the dealer several times due to loss of power and hesitation when trying to accelerate. They always say they cant find any issue. Also, my Kia is using or losing oil. I get oil changed every 5000 miles and the last two changes I had less then the low mark, barely showing on dip stick. I have had to add quarts of oil after only 2000 miles since oil change. Oil light does not come on, even when showing no oil on dip stick. It is very scary when I go to accelerate and nothing happens when trying to get on on rap for highway.
Unreasonable amount of engine oil decreasing. When I drained engine oil after 5000 miles of driving, less than 1/2 of 5qt jug was filled. It could eventually result engine fire due to loss of lubrication on engine.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the contact would experience illness and dizziness which required medical attention. No additional information was available. Also while operating the vehicle the engine oil light would continue to illuminate although oil was being added to the engine and the vehicle would experience jerking and hesitation while driving. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who performed an oil consumption test but no problem was found. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
I filed a claim 14001328 for excessive oil consumption. I am told that one quart of oil per 1000 miles is normal consumption. The car holds 4.5 quarts of oil. This means that for a 7500 mile oil change interval the entire volume is replace almost twice. I do not accept this as normal. I purchased a 2017 Kia Sportage in August of 2016. I believe that Kia is running out the warranty. I have driven 158,000 miles in a VW Rabbit - no oil issues. 238,000 miles in a VW Jetta 195,000 miles in a VW Jetta TDI, 175,000 miles in a Chrysler Town and Country. Average oil consumption between changes was .25 quarts. You are now telling me this Kia Sportage has a normal oil consumption of one quart per 1000 miles. I find this then to be an inferior design. I should be entitled to a repair. I have oil coming out of my exhaust tailpipe. I am copying this to the NHTSA. All of the time I have my Sportage I have maintained proper oil change intervals and I have service records.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that the failure was due to the age of the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at 30-35 MPH, another vehicle crashed into the rear end of her vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact was unsure whether there was a warning light illuminated. The contact was transported to the hospital with the assistance of a family member. The contact sustained a concussion, jaw and back injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was totaled. The dealer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the air bags do not always deploy in the event of a crash; therefore they could not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.
Passenger airbag malfunction light came on and has stayed on. We are 30 days pass warranty and were given a quote of over $2600 to replace the airbag by the Kia dealership where we purchased this 2017 Kia Sportage. There are only 26,000 miles on it with no accidents. This is a safety issue and puts any passengers riding in that seat at a very high risk. A recall needs to be issued asap. My research on this problem revealed other recalls in the past on Kia airbags.
I have performed the required oil changes since the car was purchased with the KIA dealer network. At 50,000 miles my oil light came on while making a turn and I brought it to the nearest dealer. They changed the oil and started an oil comsumption test. Since then, we have done 3 oil comsumption tested which "just passed" the criteria. I burn enough oil that I have a soot deposit in my exhaust pipe. My car is at 81,000 miles and has lost enough oil from the last oil change (4,000 miles ago - scheduled oil change for December 15) that there is no oil indication on the dipstick. The dealer has asked me to not add oil because it is 2 quarts low and ok to drive. They have said the warranty only covers if the consumption is greater than 1 quart per 1000 miles and this much oil loss is normal. THIS IS NOT NORMAL and indicates a defect in the piston rings, which would be a warranty repair that is being denied.
The car is manufactured in such a way that it is easy to steal without a key. When a car is stolen, typically it is driven recklessly putting many others at risk. Also any child or animal in the car could be taken as well as needed possessions of the owner. The problem has been recognized by the manufacturer and several police departments. The problem became well known to the manufacturer, however, the manufacturer neglected to ever notify individuals who purchased their vehicles. This can be verified by any large police department. Some of these would include: Milwaukee, Denver and multiple others. There is no warning that this is a problem in the vehicle you own. The manufacturer or dealer would have to notify such as they do in a recall.
The contact's daughter owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at 5-10 MPH, she heard an abnormal popping sound and she saw black and white smoke coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact's daughter exited the vehicle immediately and called the fire department. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. The contact's daughter did not sustain physical injuries however, she was mentally traumatized and had been seeking therapy. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where the vehicle was deemed totaled. The contact stated that the vehicle had been serviced two months prior to catching on fire and several recall repairs were performed. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
Transmission intermittently goes into neutral while driving causing engine rev, loss of ability to continue to drive/maintain speed. Very dangerous as you have to drift to the side of the road and put the transmission into Park and back to Drive to get it to engage again. Meanwhile you could easily be struck by another car trying due to sudden loss of momentum with no brake light warning or trying to maneuver to the side of the road with no engine power. Occurs every month or two. Dealer unable to duplicate multiple times. No warnings before it happens. There are at least 20 other reports of this on the NHTSA site. When will an investigation be opened? This has the potential to cause a serious crash.
bad transmission. engine revs up but car isnt moving at all.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH and depressing the brake pedal to slow for traffic or a traffic signal, the contact required more force to depress the brake pedal before the vehicle would slow. The contact became aware that while making a right turn, excessive pressure was needed to depress the brake pedal. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that while depressing the brake pedal to make an abrupt stop, the front brakes made an abnormal sound like loosened pieces of metal bouncing around in the front wheels. Additionally, the contact stated that her rear brake light bulbs were burning out frequently and the brake light wiring was melted. The contact stated that the failure was recurring. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear taillight wiring needed to be replaced. The taillight bulbs and the wires were replaced. The mechanic also determined that the brake pads and calipers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failures reoccurred. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
The car start button failed to start the car . It has happened sporadically over last 4 months .It is available for inspection. I have not reported it as of today to the dealer . It is not a safety issue since it happens while parked. The cars dashboard lite up ,radio was on as were the headlights and all other warning lights when I depressed the start button with my foot on the brake pedal. The only thing that was different was the brake pedal was extremely hard to depress it didn't move at all.The brake pedal was up higher then normal by a couple of inches. It took multiple times before it started.
Around December 2020 our driver side window stopped working. We had the dealership replace the inner door panel accuator. As soon as we went over 60,000 and lost our warranty all of the other 3 windows stopped working. The plastic gears crumbbled. We bought 3 panels to fix the windows in January they have worked until the beginning of October. Same problem!!!
While driving heard a loud cracking noise, when I made ot to my destination I noticed that the dash infront of the passenger seat were the airbag is has two v cracks in it
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate with the accelerator pedal depressed. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 131,101.
I just changed my oil 2 weeks ago and it has lost 3 quarts of oil already, and I do not have any oil leaks, nor is the oil/engine light coming on.
In Oct 2020, we took the vehicle in as it had low oil. A prior inspection and oil change had been performed in June 2020, and it was assumed that the inspection mechanic did not change the oil. The dealership (Fred Beans Kia of Langhorne) changed the oil in October, and in December 2020 the vehicle was again low on oil well before the 3000 mile mark. The dealership informed us that it was likely due to an error on their part, and the technician was no longer employed there. Once again in April 2021 the vehicle was low on oil, and was taken to the dealership. In June 2021 the vehicle was once again low on oil, and taken to the dealership where they confirmed oil consumption was out of spec. Cleaning was performed in July and the vehicle was again low on oil in Sept 2021. Dealer is claiming the oil consumption is now "normal." The vehicle is both burning and leaking oil, causing a concern for both safety (engine seizure) and durability.
Vehicle failed to accelerate to highway speed while climbing on ramp of highway. Vehicle started to go to idle speed and would not accelerate when highway speed was needed to keep with flow of traffic. Had fear of being rear ended as car was just coasting. Dealer replaced VCM under warranty. Tech service bulletin TSB eng 158. Check engine light on with code DTC p200a00.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently stalled and lost power. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that while attempting to restart the vehicle there was an abnormal knocking sound and the vehicle lost power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced; however, the dealer informed the contact that the repair would not be covered under the warranty since the knock sensor software upgrade was not completed on the vehicle prior to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the knock sensor software upgrade was not completed on the vehicle prior to the failure and offered no further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 95,079.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Sportage. The contact stated that the transmission shifter would not go into the reverse position. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who repaired the transmission. No further information was available. Later, while driving the vehicle suddenly stalled and was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. No further information was available. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. The VIN was not available.
i have been trying to get my recall fixed for a month now. I took it to John L Sullivan Kia in Roseville Ca and the part was not available. They were suppose to call me when they received the part and never did call me back. I recently had my A/C repaired last week at Folsom Lake Kia in Folsom CA and asked them if they could repair the recall issue as well. They had my car since last week and provided me a rental on friday, 6/4. Today on 6/8, I am told my A/C is fixed and no part for the recall so I had to pick up my car and return the rental. I have a newborn baby and this recall is extremely dangerous and its not safe. I should not have to pay for a rental when the recall is dangerous and not at fault of mine. This is ridiculous and all dealerships should provide rental cars when a recall is very serious with the part(s) being unavailable.
My 2017 KIA Sportage was purchased in 2016 and does not have any recalls showing under my VIN number for this issue but I have all of the signs of a serious malfunction and the dealer won't respond. My car has less than 23k miles on it, I barely drive it because I work from home and all of the ABS warning lights are on including the ABS, Hill Descent, Tire Pressure, Traction/Stability Control, Emergency Brake Light. My dashboard light to Check TPMS also pops on the screen consistently and there is a weird smell coming from my dashboard. My husband is a certified mechanic for Largo Honda and he claims it is a safety issue in the vehicle that should be recalled. In addition to this issue, my windows will not go down and this will be the third time I have to take the car to the dealer to get fixed in the short period that I've had the car.

After purchase the car only a year. The rod was thrown and punched a hole i. The engine block and began to smoke. I jumped out and the car wouldn’t start or nothing. Car was towed home and to several locations to look at and fix the car. When all along there was a safety recall. When I attempted to file a complaint the Kia class action suit was denied. Now this is on my credit due to having no other choice then to voluntarily repo the car.

Mileage at 94,000 miles, less than 100,000 warrantied for, and this car is using oil until its dry less than every 1000 miles. I can't go anywhere without carrying oil in the car. Took it to the dealer and was told Kia would not approve engine work. Reported to them also that the oil light does NOT come on, it only blinked once causing concern for me because the engine was kind of dragging. The dipstick was dry. Has happened three times since then.
On November 2020 I bought my 2017 Kia Sportage 4DR FWD LX. I been having issues with the driver's and passenger windows since 05/08/2021. The driver's window will not go down, Deland Kia Dealer inspection said the rubber window channel for the driver's windows needed to be lubricated and it got fix. Now 8 months later the same situation is happening again on the the same window, the window will not go down, and the motor works because you can hear it running. On 10/18/2021 I had to get my kia Sportage for service due the right (passenger) window not going up, it was stock and will not go up at all, again the motor was working because you can heart running. I got my Kia serviced at Deland Kia and they changed the window regulator gear panel. Is working (for now) but now my left rear window will not go up and is sliding down, like it loose and the drive's windows also having the same problem. I believe all this issues are a safety concern due to; first what if that window that is sliding will break and cut someone, plus is an easy way for someone to brake into my vehicle. Also the windows not coming down, what if I had an accident and the only way to get me out will be breaking the window because it will not go down and if there was a gas leak or something I will get trap there. I looked online to multiple vehicle forums and there is multiple complains about this window issue, some believe is due to a regulator wheel malfunction or a complete regulator malfunction. At this point almost all my windows had an issue which is putting my safety and my family safety on risk.
SINCE THE USED CAR LOT DID NOT SUPPLY IS WITH A KEY FOB, WE HAVE TO USE THE KEY TO UNLOCK THE DOORS. WHEN PUTTING KEY IN DRIVER'S DOOR AND TURNING KEY TWICE IN A ROW (QUICKLY)TO UNLOCK ALL DOORS, WE HAVE TO PULL HANDLE ANYWHERE FROM 2-3 TIMES BEFORE THE DOOR WILL OPEN. THE CAR WAS STOPPED AND NOT RUNNING WHEN THIS HAPPENS.

WHILE DRIVING AT A STEADY SPEED, CAR WILL SUDDENLY DISENGAGE THE TRANSMISSION, THE RPMS WILL REV HIGH AND THEN TRANSMISSION WILL RE-ENGAGE. THIS USUALLY LASTS 20-30 SECONDS, IT IS VERY RANDOM. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN AND BECAUSE NO CODES ARE SHOWING AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO RECREATE THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. IT IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE AS IF I'M DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THIS OCCURS IT COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. IT HAPPENS SPORADICALLY AND CANNOT DOCUMENT ANYTHING AS IT IS OVER BEFORE I CAN AS I AM DRIVING WHEN IT HAPPENS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2017 KIA SPORTAGE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. CAR IS RAPIDLY BURNING OIL AND NOT DRIPPING ON GROUND. RECENT ACTIVITY: OIL DIPSTICK SHOWED NO OIL ON 01/18/2021 AND TOOK 3 QUARTS. IT READ FULL! ON 01/25/2021. SERVICE STATION REPORTED OUT OF OIL AGAIN! OIL LIGHT ON DASHBOARD DID NOT LIGHT.KIA DEALERSHIP ADVISED AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST THAT WILL BE REPORTED TO YOU. I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU NOTE THAT THIS OCCURRED 1000 MILES INTO MY REGULARLY SCHEDULED 3000 MILE OIL CHANGE. OUR LOCAL SERVICE STATION INDICATED THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM FOR THIS CAR AND LITIGATION IS BEING CONSIDERED.
THE ENGINE HAS BEEN BURNING OIL SINCE 2019. I TOLD THE SERVICE DESK AND THEY SAID A QT EVERY 1000 MILES IS NORMAL. IT STARTED TO WORSEN. IN JANUARY 2021 THE DID AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. I DRIVE TO CAR FOR 957 MILES AND THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE CAR WAS DOWN 2 QTS OF OIL. THEY SAID THEY RUN THE TEST AGAIN. THEY FILLED THE CAR WITH WHAT THEY SAID WAS THE RIGHT AMOUNT.THE NEXT MORNING AFTER GETTING MY CAR BACK I CHECKED THE DIPSTICK THREE TIMES. THE OIL WAS A 1/2 INCH OVER THE FILL MARK I RETURN THE CAR WITH LESS THE 1000 MILES AND THIS TIME THEY SAID IT WAS ONLY DOWN A QT. AND IT WAS IN MANUFACTURERS SPEC FOR CONSUMPTION . I TOLD THEM IT WAS OVER FILLED SO THEY SAID WE WILL TEST IT AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK AT 1500 MILES. I HAVE NOT REACHED THAT AMOUNT OF MILES YET . I WORRIED ABOUT HAVING CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE WHILE I'M DRIVING . THEY HAVE ALREADY INSTALLED TWO TRANSMISSION THAT WERE DEFECTIVE.I WILL SUPPLY ANY OTHER DOCUMENTS YOU NEED .
