VEHICLE LOOSES ALL FORWARD DRIVE WHEN DRIVE SHAFT AND DIFFERENTIAL SPINES SHEER OFF. THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED ON THE INTERNET BY A LARGE POPULATION OF OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE. I WAS TRAVELING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON I-75 NORTH AT THE I-75 AND I-10 INTERCHANGE WHEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING THE SHAFT FAILED LEAVING ME WITHOUT THE ABILIY TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN STOP. I WAS NEARLY HIT BY A TRACTOR TRAILOR AS I WAS ON AN UP HILL GRADE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO GET COMPLETELY OFF THE EXPRESS WAY BEFORE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE'S PARK SELECTOR ON THE SHIFTER WAS INOPERATIVE AND THE VEHICLE COULD ONLY BE HELD IN PLACE USING THE PARKING BRAKE. THE DEALER SAID THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT A RETORFIT WAS IN THE WORKS AND WOULD BE AVAILABLE WITHIN 30 DAYS. THE DEALER HAD TO INSTALL AN ORIGINAL PART WHICH ACCORDING TO HIM DOES NOT CONTAIN THE RE-ENGINEERED FIX. THIS LEAVES ME OUT $3,000 AND WITH A PART I KNOW WILL FAIL AGAIN IN THE FUTURE WITHOUT NOTICE.
MY 2004 HSE FREELANDER WITH ONLY 35,000 MILES ON IT, THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS AND IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SINCE JUNE. '07 UNTIL JAN. '08 FOR A COOLANT LEAK THAT LEAD TO ENTIRE ENGINE CHANGE. THE KEYLESS ENTRY STOPPED UNLOCKING THE DOORS BEHIND THE PASSANGER SEAT. MY BACK WINDOW REGULATORS ARE BROKEN AND I CANNOT CLOSE THIS WINDOW. LAND ROVER NEEDS TO FOCUS MORE ON QUALITY.
FRONT DRIVE SHAFT FAULT ON RANGE ROVER 2004 VOUGE. *TR
THE DRIVESHAFT GAVE OUT ON THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPEN TO NUMEROUS PEOPLE. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT , TICKING ENGINE, ANTIFREEZE , OIL LEAK, SMELLING COOLANT INSIDE CAR AND NUMEROUS OTHER ISSUES SUCH AS WINDOW REGULATOR , WIPER MOTOR AND RATTLING NOISES UNDERNEATH CAR HAS BEEN MY COMPLAINTS SINCE FEB 13,2008. PARTS WERE REPLACED THAT DIDN'T CORRECT THE PROBLEM OF THE TICKING ENGINE, COOLANT LEAKS, SMELL OF COOLANT INSIDE CAR,AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WHICH ALWAYS COMES ON A COUPLE OF HOURS AFTER THE DEALER RETURNS MY CAR TO ME. CAR WAS TOWED FROM FREEWAY DUE TO BREAKDOWN ON THE WAY HOME 15 MINUTES AFTER PICKING CAR UP FROM MADISON DEALERSHIP FOR ENGINE REPAIR. DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THIS WAS DUE TO AN OIL SEAL/OIL PLUG AND IT WAS NOT THEIR FAULT ALTHOUGH THEY JUST FINISHED WORKING ON THE ENGINE. I DID NOT HAVE MY CAR FOR A TOTAL OF 30 DAYS NOT INCLUDING THE PRIOR VISITS WHERE THEY TOOK ALMOST 2 WEEKS TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I WAS CHARGED FOR A RENTAL CAR DURING THIS PERIOD. MILWAUKEE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THEY CORRECTED THE ENGINE PROBLEM ON 3 DIFFERENT VISITS WHICH I PAID $600.00 FOR A TIMING BELT WHICH NEVER CORRECTED THE PROBLEM ALONG WITH A $100.00 DEDUCTIBLE FOR USING THE WARRANTY. THE PARTS REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE IS AS FOLLOWS; MANIFOLD ASSY. MOTOR ASSY FOR WIPER BLADES,WINDOW REGULATOR,TIMING BELT AND DIFFERENTIAL FRONT MOUNTING WHICH DID NOT RESOLVE RATTLING NOISE UNDERNEATH CAR. MILWAUKEE DEALERSHIP HAS ALSO ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THESE SAME PROBLEMS WITH NO SUCCESS. THE COOLANT LEAK IS STILL APPARENT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN. THE ONLY THING THE DEALERSHIP CAN TELL ME IS TO MONITOR HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE TO REPLACE COOLANT. IN THE MEAN TIME, THEY HAVE SENT ME HOME WITH A CAR THAT HAS A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND A DISAPPEARING COOLANT PROBLEM. I GUESS THEY WILL CONTINUE GIVING ME THE RUNAROUND UNTIL MY WARRANTY EXPIRES AUG 2,2008 JUST AS MANY OTHERS HAS REPORTED THEY DID TO THEM. PLEASE HELP!!!!! *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 75 MILES/HR ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN MY CAR MADE A LOUD NOISE AND COMPLETELY STOPPED ACCELERATING. I WAS ALMOST REARENDED TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE ROAD. I WAS TOLD THAT MY BY THE RANGE ROVER DEALERSHIP THAT MY FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FAILED. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AND I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET OF THE ROAD. *TR
DRIVING ON CITY STREETS, ABOUT TO ENTER THE FREEWAY, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, MAKING AWFUL MECHANICAL NOISES. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING BUT PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR RESULTED IN METALLIC CRUNCHING NOISE AND NO MOVEMENT. I WAS STRANDED, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED SOME 35 TO THE PURCHASING DEALER. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL / DRIVE SHAFT FAILED AND WILL BE REPLACED. THIS IS THE SECOND SUCH FAILURE. THE FIRST OCCURRED IN OCTOBER 2006. LUCKILY BOTH TIMES WERE AT SLOW SPEEDS, CLOSE TO HOME, AND DURING THE DAY. IF THIS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL / DRIVE SHAFT WERE TO OCCUR AT SPEED?I HATE TO THINK OF THE ACCIDENT THAT MIGHT HAPPEN, THE DAMAGE AND INJURIES THAT MIGHT OCCUR. THIS IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW WHICH THE COMPANY NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH A NEW DESIGN TO REPLACE THE DEFECT AND DANGEROUS DESIGN. *TR
FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE ON HIGHWAY, BARELY AVOIDING SURE ACCIDENT. VERY LUCKY THAT ACCIDENT DID NOT OCCUR!! *TR
I PURCHASED A NEW 2004 HSE RANGE ROVER ALONG WITH A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR 100,000 MILES. DURING THE SECOND YEAR OF OWNERSHIP, THE "FAILED TRANS. PROGRAM" WARNING STARTED TO APPEAR, THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY SHIFT INTO "LIMP" MODE (2ND GEAR) WITH A LOUD THUD. EACH TIME I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP (3 DIFFERENT DEALERS) I WAS TOLD IT WAS JUST A SENSOR. NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR REPAIR FOR THIS ISSUE MORE THAN 8 TIMES, MY WARRANTY JUST EXPIRED, AND NOW I AM TOLD THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I AM LIVID. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 RANGE ROVER THAT HAS HAD THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL REPLACED AT 50K MILES AND AGAIN AT 80K MILES AND NOW IT HAS FAILED AGAIN LEAVING ME STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY. THE LAST TIME IT WAS "REPLACED" WAS ONLY 8 MONTHS AGO. *TR
MY 2004 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER HAS FRONT DIFFERENTIAL PROBLEM, WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND WITH OUT ANY NOTICE CAR LOST ALL POWER AND COULDN'T MOVE. *TR
FAILURE OF FRONT DIFFERENTIAL OF 2004 RANGE ROVER. THESE FAILURES ARE CHRONIC AND DUE TO A DESIGN FAILURE, BUT LAND ROVER HAS DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I'VE ASKED MY LOCAL DEALER TO REPLACE THE FRONT END AS AN 'EXTENDED WARRANTY' BUT HAVE NOT HEARD IF THEY WILL. IF NOT, ITS A $5,000 REPAIR ITEM. *TR
WE CURRENTLY HAVE A LANDROVER FREELANDER THAT IS ON ITS THIRD ENGINE (WITHIN 1 YEAR). WE ARE CONTINUOUSLY INCONVENIENCED WITH THIS VEHICLE HAVING ISSUES THAT BRING IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY CLAIM TO FIX THE ISSUE AND WITHIN 3,000 MILES WE ARE BACK AGAIN LIKE CLOCKWORK. LANDROVER DOES KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AND WE HAVE A VEHICLE THAT WE COULD NEVER SELL TO ANYONE ELSE, PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON, AND HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO RECOURSE WITH. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN LAST WEEK FOR THEM TO FIX AN ISSUE, SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND I WAS INHALING COOLANT FUMES; THEY STATED THAT IT WAS FIXED, NO SOONER THAN 4 HOURS AFTER I PICKED THE CAR UP ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON, DID THE SAME CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GO ON AND I CURRENTLY AM DRIVING AROUND INHALING FUMES FROM COOLANT AGAIN. WHEN DO THESE ISSUES GET RESOLVED. IT HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR OF THE SAME ISSUES WITH A CAR, THAT THE SALES WOMAN'S WORDS TO MY HUSBAND WERE, THE FIRST VEHICLE CREATED BY LANDROVER IS STILL ON THE ROAD. MY CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW, HAS APPROX. 57,600 MILES ON IT, IT IS 5 YEARS OLD, AND FOR THE LAST YEAR AND A HAS HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES. I ASKED THE SERVICE MANAGER HOW MANY OF THESE MODELS HAVE HAD ISSUES STATED, MORE THAN HE WOULD LIKE TO ADMIT. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE. AT THIS POINT MY HUSBAND WOULD LIKE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY MONEY BACK AND AT LEAST HALF OF THE BOOK VALUE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 RANGE ROVER. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED IN 2006 WITH 60,000 MILE'S ON IT. IN JUNE 2007, THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL BROKE WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF TWO BUSY INTERSECTIONS. TRAFFIC WAS HALTED UNTIL SOME MEN PUSHED MY CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE WAS NO WARNING LEADING UP TO THIS BREAKDOWN. IN FACT, THE CAR WAS JUST AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE 75,000 MILE CHECKUP. NOT TO MENTION RANGE ROVER CHARGED ME $3,000.00 FOR THIS REPAIR.. THE MOST RECENT FRONT DIFFERENTIAL BREAKDOWN WAS MORE SERIOUS SINCE IT OCCURRED ON THE EXPRESSWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. WHILE TRAVELING TO BIRMINGHAM AL. FROM ATLANTA GA. AT A SPEED OF 70 MILES PER/HR THE CAR MADE A SUDDEN GRINDING NOISE AND STOP ACCELERATING. ONCE I REALIZED WGAT WAS GOING ON I STARTED GETTING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT WAS SCARY BECAUSE PART OF THE TRUCK WAS STILL IN THE FREEWAY LANE AND TRUCKS AND CARS WERE AVOIDING HITTING US. MY TEENAGE SON HAD TO PUSH THE CAR OFF THE FREEWAY. AFTER THIS BEING THE SECOND TIME IN PERIL I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE THAT I OWE A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF MONEY ON. THIS LAST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON MARCH 07, 2008. THE PART WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY SINCE IT HAD ONLY BEEN 9 MONTHS AND LESS THAN 8,000 MILES SINCE THE LAST FRONT DIFFERENTIAL WAS REPLACED. OH BY THE WAY , THE CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP IN BIRMINGHAM AL. THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS AND THE PARTS HAVEN'T ARRIVED YET. I HOPE SOMETHING CAN BE DONE TO HELP ME, AND OTHERS IN MY POSITION. *TR
THE FAILURE WHICH OCCURRED TWICE WAS THAT MY FRONT DIFFERENTIAL AND FRONT DRIVE SHAFT FAILED (FIRST TIME 48,000 MILES AND SECOND 68,000 MILES). WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE WAS APPARENTLY ALL PARTS WERE CHANGED. CAR DOES NOT MOVE. OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE TWICE AS MUCH AS A PRIVATE MECHANIC WANTS TO CHARGE. VEHICLE IS NOT OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY AND DEALER WILL NOT REPLACE PARTS FOR FREE. DEALER DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE HIGH RATE OF FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING IN MY 2004 RANGE ROVER WITH 47K MILES ON I-H201 IN HAWAII AT 55 MPH WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED UP, THE WARNING SIGN CAME ON AND SAID TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND IT STOPPED ACCELERATING. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND ROLLED TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR COULD NOT LONGER GET INTO GEAR, MADE HORRIBLE GRINDING NOISES, AND ONLY COULD ONLY STOP WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED (PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK DID NOTHING). THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED INTO THE LAND ROVER DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THAT THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL WAS COMPLETELY GONE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, ALONG WITH THE DRIVE SHAFT. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS FAULT AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY LAND ROVER. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING HOME ON I-H201 WHEN THERE WAS A LOUD GEAR CRANKING SOUND AND THE VEHICLE COULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE. THE WARNING CAME ON AND SAID TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE ROLLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NEEDED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP BECAUSE IT COULDN'T SHIFT INTO PARK. IT WAS TOWED IN AND THE DEALER SAID THAT IT WAS A FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE WHICH WAS COMMON WITH THIS YEAR. IT'S LUCKY THAT IT HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WHEN THERE WASN'T ANY TRAFFIC. THERE WEREN'T ANY MECHANICAL WARNINGS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. *TR
MY HUSBAND, SON 10 YRS OLD, MYSELF , AND TWO PUGS WERE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 31 AT APPX 65 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY OUR CAR MADE A LOUD CRACK NOISE AND SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING TELLING US TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. WE WERE ON OUR WAY ON VACATION APPX 90 MILES OUT OF TOWN. FORTUNATELY THE LAND ROVER DEALER WAS OPEN AT 630 PM AND WHEN WE DESCRIBED WHAT HAD HAPPENED HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. WE HAD TO WAIT 3 HOURS ON BARELY WHAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD IN THE SNOW AND WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO TOW OUR CAR TO THE NEAREST LAND ROVER DEALER. THE CAR HAS 54,000 MILES ON IT AND WE PAID 63,000 DOLLARS FOR THE VEHICLE. IT WAS COMPLETELY INCOMPACITATED AND LEFT US STRANDED IN A VERY DANGEROUS PLACE WITH ABSOUTELY NO RECOURSE OTHER THAN TOWING. THANK GOD WE MADE IT SAFELY HOWEVER THIS SITUATION COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A VERY DIFFERENT OUTCOME. TO DATE MY CAR IS STILL OUT OF SERVICE AND I A, LEFT WITHOUT A VEHICLE. *TR
2004 RANGE ROVER FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE ON HIGHWAY, SUDDENLY LOST POWER COULD HAVE BEEN VERY SERIOUS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, HAD TODDLER AND INFANT IN CAR. *TR
A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO MY VEHICLE JUST STOPPED ON BW PARKWAY. I HAD BEEN HEARING A GRINDING NOISE BUT THOUGHT IT WAS MY TIRES. I WENT TO MY MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME IT WAS THE DRIVING SHAFT. HE REPLACED A PART THAT COST ME $1200 ALONE. NOW I AM EXPERIENCING THAT SAME GRINDING NOISE ESPECIALLY IF I GO OVER 40 MILES PER HOUR. I HAVE A FEELING THAT IT IS THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN WHICH IS WHY MY FRUSTRATION HAS LED ME INTO DOING SOME RESEARCH ON POSSIBLE RECALLS. IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE. *TR
FRONT DIFFERENTIAL AND DRIVE TRAIN FAILURE 2ED TIME IN LESS THAN 12 MONTHS. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH ALL 03-05 RANGE ROVERS, BUT YET THE DEALERSHIP CONTINUES TO BAND-AID THE PROBLEM. *CN
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND TRANSMISSION FAILED. 2004 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER WITH 53K MILES. FRONT DIFFERENTIAL AND DRIVE SHAFT SPLINES WORN DOWN. REPAIRED AND REPLACED. *TR
2004 RANGE ROVER WENT DEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET DUE TO SHAFT/DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE. *TR
THE ENGINE/HEAD GASKET ISSUE IS THE REPAIR THAT IS THE MOST CRITICAL AND TERMINAL CONDITION FOR THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERS MECHANICS WILL NEVER FIX THE GASKET, SO THEY WILL ONLY OFFER THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT, BUT EITHER REPAIR WILL COST YOU MORE THAN THE SUV IS WORTH. AND YES, THE BRAKE PADS AND THEN ROTORS WEAR OUT VERY QUICKLY, BECAUSE OF THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE (THE DEALER SAYS). I PERSONALLY THINK IT HAS MORE TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT THERE ARE 2 DISC FRONT BRAKES AND 2 DRUM REAR BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE, HENCE THE WEAR AND WEIGHT ALL GOES TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. ANOTHER POOR DESIGN FLAW ISSUE, AND I WAS TOLD THE DRUM BRAKES WERE THERE TO BETTER ALLOW THE OFF-ROADING. YEAH, WHO EVER COULD OFF ROAD THESE THINGS, THEY FALL APART ON THE DRIVEWAY! *TR
THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL HAS MALFUNCTIONED TWICE IN THE PAST 18 MONTHS. THE VEHICLE COMES TO A NEAR SCREECHING HALT WHEN THIS HAPPENS, BOTH TIMES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND IS UNSAFE. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS REPLACED; IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP FOR THE SECOND REPLACEMENT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY @ ABOUT 65 MPH A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE JUST CAME OUT OF NO WHERE THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN PUTTING YOUR FOOT ON THE GAS & WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE IT WAS ACCOMPANIED BY MORE LOUD GRINDING NOISES! WE WERE ALMOST KILLED ON THE FREEWAY BECAUSE WE WERE IN THE FAST LANE & THE CAR LOCKED UP!!! I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED HOME @ A COST OF $300. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION OPENED FOR HER PROBLEM ACTION # EA0712 FOR COMPONENT POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DIFFERENTIAL UNIT, POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT, POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT. PRIOR TO THIS I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS OR ANY SIGNS OF ANY PROBLEM WITH MY 2004 RANGE ROVER HSE. I CALLED RANGE ROVER TODAY (MONDAY 11/26/07) @ 1-800-637-6837 AND WAS RUDELY ADVISED BY THE REP. THAT SHE WASN'T A AUTO MECHANIC & THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT WITH MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. I CAN'T IMAGINE THIS JUST BEING A NORMAL ROUTINE PROBLEM IN OWNING THIS CAR & WOULD LIKE A ANSWER. I LOVE MY ROVER BUT CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN! *TR
NORMAL DRIVING ON ASPHALT PAVEMENT AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. FRONT DRIVE SHAFT, AND OR, FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE. RESULTED IN INABILITY TO DRIVE VEHICLE. THIS IS SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER THE LAST 15,000 MILES. *TR

VEHICLE LOCKED AND FORCED ME INTO EMERGENCY LANE ON THE NJ TURNPIKE. LANDROVER REPLACED ONLY THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR THE FIRST TIME AND 3 MONTHS LATER THE FAILURE HAPPENED AGAIN , AND THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR AGAIN. VEHICLE HAS ELECTRONIC PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD SPEAKERS,ECU SENSORS, STEERING WHEEL MOTOR, PARKING SENSORS ALL REPLACED IN A 12 MONTH SPAN OF A 2 YEAR LEASE. ON 7/22/07 MY 2004 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER WITHOUT WARNING AND TRAVELING APPROX 20MPH STARTED MAKING A VERY LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND CAME TO A HALT. I PUT IT IN PARK AND THE NOISE WAS GONE. THEN I SHIFTED IT INTO DRIVE AND AGAIN GRINDING NOISE AND NO MOVEMENT. I SHUT IT DOWN AND CALLED FOR A TOW (FLATBED). AT THE REPAIR SHOP (NOT DEALER - THE DEALER SAID THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF THIS ISSUE) TOLD ME THIS IS COMMON WITH RR 2003-05 MODELS. SINCE IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND A CLEAR MANUFACTURE DEFECT, LAND ROVER OR THE FORD MOTOR GROUP SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE AND RECALL ALL AFFECTED MODELS AND REPAIR THEM. I NOTICED A LOSS IN POWER TO THE LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER. ALSO NOTICED A CLUNKING NOISE FROM THE FRONT OF THE SUV. THE SUV WAS NOW IN THE SHOP FOR A REPAIR THAT WAS COMMON ON THE RANGE ROVER TO REPLACE THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL AND THE DRIVESHAFT. IF I HAD NOT BEEN ALERT TO THE NOISE WHEN I HAD THE WINDOW DOWN I MIGHT HAVE EXPERIENCED A HAZARDOUS SITUATION ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A MAIN ROAD ON US 69 IN TYLER, TEXAS FRIDAY EVENING. THE VEHICLE HAS 51000 MILES ON IT. I WAS TRAVELING AT 40MPH WHEN THE CAR SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AND SAID TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL. CAR DIED ON THE SPOT, AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. APPARENTLY IT WAS DUE TO FRONT DIFFERENTIAL BREAKING. I READ ON WEBS ITES THAT 2004 AND OLDER RANGE ROVERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. WAS AT A RED LIGHT 3 DAYS AGO AND HEARD A LOUD BANG FROM THE TRANSMISSION AREA OF MY 2004 RANGE ROVER. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL THEN DRIVE AND HEARD A GRINDING SOUND. THE CAR WAS UNABLE TO MOVE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO RANGE ROVER, ENCINO APPROXIMATELY 100 MILES AWAY. RANGE ROVER SAID IT WAS THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL THAT WAS BROKEN. THE SAME DAY THAT I PICKED UP THE CAR FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, ABOUT 70 MILES INTO THE TRIP HOME THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO REV WHILE I WAS AT A CRUISING SPEED OF 70 MPH. I THOUGHT IT WAS A DOWN SHIFT BUT THE CAR REVVED TO 6,000RPMS THEN THE WARNING DISPLAY SAID "TRANS. FAILSAFE MODE." I AM AT A LOSS AND AM VERY DISAPPOINTED. *JB
HEAR FAINT GROANING FROM FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FOR ABOUT 500 MILES PRIOR TO INCIDENT. THEN AT ABOUT 38K MILES WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH - A LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND NO ACCELERATION. STEERED VEHICLE TO SIDE OF ROAD - IMMOBILIZED. PROBLEM - DESTROYED FRONT DIFFERENTIAL AND COUPLING TO TRANSMISSION. DEALER REPLACED WITH "IMPROVED" PARTS AND REVISED INSTALLATION PROCEDURE WITH PROMISE THAT THIS REPLACEMENT SHOULD LAST FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT IT BEING A RECURRENT ISSUE, ESPECIALLY AFTER READING THAT THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN EVERY 20K TO 30K MILES. VEHICLE HAD BEEN MAKING SMALL GRINDING NOISES FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS. I THOUGHT IT WAS AXLE ISSUES. HAD IT CHECKED BY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. AGREED TO KEEP TIRES ON AN ALIGNMENT SCHEDULE AND MONITOR. ON 4 FEB, 2007 I STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I TRIED TO TAKE OFF AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. MADE A GRINDING NOISE AND DID NOT GO ANYWHERE. I WAS PROCEEDING EASTBOUND ON 580 IN SAN LEANDRO AT ABOUT 70 MPH AND HEARD AN ABRUPT GRINDING SOUND AND THEN LOST ACCELERATION. THE ENGINE WAS STILL WORKING BUT COULD NOT GET ANY TORQUE. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AS IT DECELERATED. ONCE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP IT WOULD NOT MOVE AGAIN. THE GEARS WOULD NOT ENGAGE WITHOUT THE GRINDING SOUND. *NM
WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY LOST ALL PROPULSION. AFTER NAVIGATING ACROSS MULTIPLE LANES OF MODERATELY HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH NO POWER, I CAME TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CLOSEST LAND ROVER DEALER AND THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED, IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL HAD FAILED. I'VE SINCE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND FOUND THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AND LAND ROVER HAS EVEN ISSUED TECHNICAL BULLETINS REGARDING THIS REPEATED FAILURE. DESPITE THAT, I HAD NEVER BEEN MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BY THE MANUFACTURER DESPITE THAT FACT THAT IT HAS BEEN IN THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT EVERY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE INTERVAL AND ON MANY OTHER OCCASIONS FOR OTHER WORK. IN FACT, IT WAS IN THEIR SHOP APPROXIMATELY 2,000 MILES PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE FOR A NUMBER OF OTHER WARRANTY RELATED ITEMS AND THIS FAILING MECHANISM WAS NOT DETECTED/FIXED DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT WAS LIKELY CLOSE TO FAILURE AT THAT POINT AND DETECTION OF THE PROBLEM IS POSSIBLE VIA NOTHING MORE THAN A GLANCE AT THE POINT WHERE THE SHAFT AND DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING MEET. I'M HAPPY NO ONE WAS INJURED BUT VERY DISAPPOINTED THIS FAILURE OCCURRED, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THAT IT OCCURRED 1,000 MILES AFTER THE OEM WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE EXPIRED WHICH NOW MAKES THIS A FINANCIAL CONCERN FOR ME AS WELL. *NM

I HAD A 2006 RANGE ROVER SUPER CHARGE WITH ENGINE/TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND COOLANT PROBLEMS. THIS PROBLEM EXISTED FROM 5,000 MILES ALL THE WAY TO 64,000. I KEPT COMPLAINING AND BRINGING THE CAR BACK TO THE FIRST PLACE IT BROKE DOWN WHICH WAS IN GEORGIA. I TRIED TO TAKE THE TRUCK TO A SERVICE PLACE IN NEW JERSEY BUT WAS TOLD I HAD TO BRING THE CAR BACK TO THE FIRST PLACE WHERE IT WAS SO CALLED REPAIRED! WHICH TO ME WAS TOO FAR!
