The contact owns a 2004 Land Rover Range Rover. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle independently downshifted without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle resumed normal operation after the failure and returned moments later. The contact had notified the dealer of the failure but was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V635000 (Power Train). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 154,000.

THIS RANGE ROVER STEERING IS DEFINITELY, BLIND SPOT WARNING DOESN'T WORK, FUEL GAUGE NEVER NOW HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE TANK BEFORE IT RUNS OUT OF FUEL.
WHEN I BRAKE OVER SPEED BUMPS AND DOWNHILLS, THE BRAKES VIBRATE AND PULSATE CREATING DANGER TO STOP HARD. I'VE A HAD BRAKE INSPECTIONS AND EVERYTHING IS OK. ABS SYSTEM SEEMS THE PROBLEM AND I WISH I COULD REPAIR IT
I NOTICED A TICKING SOUND COMING FROM MY ENGINE COMPARTMENT. AFTER HAVING IT DIAGNOSED AT THE RANGE ROVER DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE TENSIONER GUIDES AND THAT I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE.
I HAVE TO REPLACE MY FUEL PUMP TWO TIMES IT COST ME OVER $2,000 AND NOW MY STEERING COLUMN ISN'T WORKING MY KEY WON'T TURN I TESTED IT BY TAKING THE FUSE OUT AND DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY STILL NOTHING WENT TO A CURRENT RANGE ROVER SPOT AND THEY SAID THAT'S COMMON IN THOSE VEHICLES WITH THE STEERING COLUMN GOING OUT WHICH MAKES THE KEY NOT TURN I HOPE THAT YOU GUYS CAN REALLY RESOLVE THIS SITUATION BECAUSE FOR THIS TO BE AN OLD VEHICLE I'M SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET THANK YOU
MY ALTERNATOR STARTED GOING OUT AND AS MY CAR WAS DYING OUT IT STARTED SPEEDING UP I WAS TRYING TO PUSH ON THE BREAK AND I GOT TO TRY TO PUSH ON THE BRAKE IT WOULD ONLY FORCE THE CAR TO GO FORWARD SO I WAS JUST RELEASE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND JUST LET THE CARGO AND THE CAR HAD WENT AROUND IN CIRCLES UNTIL IT DIED OUT THEN I TRIED TO GET A JUMP FROM A BUS DRIVER
I WAS DRIVING 75 MPH ON HIGHWAY ON JUNE 1ST, 2016 WHEN A LOUD GRINDING NOICE OCCURRED IN THE FRONT END FOLLOWED BY LOSS OF DRIVE TRAIN. CAR ALMOST LOST CONTROL BUT WAS ABLE TO COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD. THE CAR WOULD STILL ROLL WHILE IN PARK AND FINALLY HAD TO PUT EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP IT. A PUT IN NEUTRAL WARNING CAME ON IN DASH AND I SHUT THE MOTOR OFF AND LEFT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS WAS A SCARY AND DANGEROUS EXPERIENCE AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT MY OPTIONS ARE AND IF THIS IS A RECALL WHAT CAN I DO AFTER IT HAS FAILED.
DRIVING 75MPH ON INTERSTATE, WHILE PASSING SEMI TRAILER, SUDDENLY A LOUD THUMP AND LOSS OF DRIVE TO WHEELS, LOST OF POWER AND SUDDEN LOST UP HILL I LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE. SEMI AVOIDED ME, AND I WAS BARELY ABLE TO CONTROL BODY ROLL BUT SAFELY BROUGHT VEHICLE TO STOP OF THE SIDE OF ROAD. TOWED TO MY MECHANIC, HE REPORTED THAT DIFFERENTIAL ALONG WITH PROP SHAFT HAD FAILED. HE BELIEVED THIS WAS A RECALL ISSUE. DEALER IN SANTA FE, NM SAYS NO ACTIVE RECALL. I HAVE READ OTHERWISE AND THAT THE ISSUE CAN OCCUR EVEN AFTER INITIAL RECALL WORK DONE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000.
THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER ON MY CAR HAS A KNOWN DEFECT WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER LAND ROVER EXTENDED WARRANT PROGRAM Q058. ON MY SPECIFIC CAR, THE WARRANTY PERIOD EXPIRED ON MAY 11, 2015. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED A BAD CATALYTIC CONVERTER ON MY CAR IN FEB 04, 2014 AND TOLD ME ABOUT THE EXTENDED WARRANT PROGRAM COVERING THIS KNOWN ISSUE. I MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH LAND ROVER MANHATTAN DEALERSHIP BUT WASN'T SUCCESSFUL IN GETTING AN APPOINTMENT UNTIL AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. LAND ROVER IS REFUSING TO COVER THE REPAIR AND I HAVE BEEN TOSSED BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THE LAND ROVER DEALER AND CORPORATE OFFICE. I THINK LAND ROVER WAITED UNTIL AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED SO THEY CAN AVOID PAYING FOR THE REPAIR.
GRAND-DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY RANGE ROVER. WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING WHEEL DROPPED DOWN INTO HER LAP. WAS ABLE TO BRAKE AND SLOWLY TURN WHEEL TO PULL OFF ROAD. STEERING COLUMN WOULD TELESCOPE BUT NOT RAISE/LOWER. TURNED VEHICLE OFF, RESTARTED, KEPT TRYING ADJUSTMENT LEVER UNTIL FINALLY COLUMN RETRACTED THEN RAISED TO NORMAL POSITION.

THIS IS WHAT I SENT TO LAND ROVER USA LAST NIGHT. HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM YET. "MY 2004 RANGE ROVER SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AT A VERY HIGH SPEED FOR A FEW SECONDS WHILE I WAS PARKING CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE CAR AND PROPERTY. ALSO NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED EVEN THOUGH THE IMPACT WAS SEVERE. I WOULD LIKE TO BE INFORMED OF ANY SUCH ISSUES AND WHAT STEPS WERE TAKEN TO CORRECT THEM. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO KNOW WHAT RECOURSE I HAVE. I WILL BE CONTACTING THE NHTSA TO GET THEIR INPUT." AFTER THE SHOCK WORE OFF I HAD A CLOSER EXAMINATION OF THE INCIDENT AND I AM NOW POSITIVE THAT THE ACCELERATION WAS NOT BY ME. THERE IS EVIDENCE(SKID MARKS) TO SHOW THAT BRAKE WAS APPLIED FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. I WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF THE NHTSA CAN FURTHER INVESTIGATE THIS INCIDENT. I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT LESS THAN 2 MILES INTO A TRIP. AT REGULAR SPEED I HEAVILY APPLIED BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT SOFT. I FLOORED THE PEDAL IN ATTEMPT TO STOP; THANKFULLY NO ONE HAD BEGUN TO MOVE AS I CARRIED INTO THE INTERSECTION BEFORE STOPPING. I PULLED OVER, READ THE MANUAL TO ENSURE I KNEW WHERE TO LOOK FOR BRAKE FLUID PRESSURE SENSORS. I ALSO CHECKED FOR LEAKS BUT DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING; BRAKES OPERATION WAS NOTICEABLY DIFFERENT BUT OK SO I CAUTIOUSLY CONTINUED DRIVING (NO WARNING LIGHTS NO SENSORS HAD GONE OFF). APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES LATER AND AT HIGHWAY SPEED SENSORS AND LIGHTS WENT CRAZY TELLING ME I HAD NO BRAKE PRESSURE. WITH BRAKE OPERATION AS HARD AS A ROCK I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND NOTICED DRIVER SIDE AND UNDERCARRIAGE SOAKED IN BRAKE FLUID. IN FEAR OF POTENTIAL FIRE I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND REMAINED OUTSIDE VEHICLE. TOWED TO LAND ROVER DEALER; REPLACE BURST DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LINE TO REAR (ALSO REPLACED BULDGED PASSENGER SIDE LINE). STEERING COLUMN FAILURE, THE WHEEL DROPPED ONTO MY LAP AS I WAS DRIVING. ALMOST LOST CONTROL. VERY SCARY, I HAD TO HOLD WHEEL UP WHICH HAS FULL RANGE OF UN/DOWN MOTION, WHILE TRYING TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THERE WAS A FAILURE OF THE STEERING WHEEL TILT MECHANISM. I DISCONNECTED THE WHEEL TILT DRIVE MOTOR AND RIGGED THE WHEEL SO IT COULD BE DRIVEN HOME. *TR

DRIVE SHAFT TO FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE AS A RESULT OF RIGID FRONT DRIVE SHAFT (NO FLEX COUPLING) DESIGN FAULT BY LAND ROVER. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. TOOK TRUCK THROUGH INSPECTION AND IT FAILED. TOOK TRUCK TO RANGE ROVER DEALER, PAID FOR DIAGNOSTIC TEST ($120.38) AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS AN AIR LEAK. PAID $723.53 DROVE ABOUT 1 BLOCK AND THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. TURNED AROUND AND TOOK TRUCK BACK TO DEALER. THEY SAID THEY DID SOMETHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE NEXT DAY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. HAVE BEEN TO THE CHERRY HILL, NJ DEALER 5 TIMES, SPENT HOURS WAITING AND CAN'T DRIVE MY TRUCK BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON AND MY INSPECTION STICKER HAS EXPIRED. WON'T BE GOING BACK TO THE CHERRY HILL DEALER. TOOK TRUCK TO THE SHOP RECOMMENDED BY THE NJ INSPECTION DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AT RIGHT FRONT WELD IS CRACKED . I HAVE PAPER WORK TO SHOW IT WAS STILL UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 11 YRS/120,000 MILES. HOW CAN THIS ISSUE BE RESOLVED? PLEASE RESPOND. THANK YOU. *TR

DRIVING AT 35 MPH ON A SLIGHTLY SLOPE BLVD. THE 2004 RANGE ROVER EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LACK OF CONTROL BY DRIVER. IMMEDIATELY FELT RANGE ROVER WEAVE SLIGHTLY OUT OF CONTROL AND REAR END DIPPING DOWNWARD. THE DRIVER HAD TO REACT QUICKLY TO COMPENSATE AND REGAIN CONTROL TO CONTINUE DRIVING SAFELY. IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED (OTHER-FOREIGN) REPAIR SHOP AND DROVE 5 MINUTES TO SHOP. SHOP ASE TECH DIAGNOSIS PROBLEM AS ABS CONTROL MODULE FAILED. REASON FOR SPONTANEOUS AIR SUSPENSION LIFTS TO VEHICLE WHEN SITTING IN TRAFFIC. TECH NOTES: FAILURE WITH AIR SUSPENSION WILL CAUSE VEHICLE TO LEAN (OFF BALANCE) AND MAY CREATE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. ABS CONTROL MODULE COST TO REPAIR $2,000. - $2,500 FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC NEEDED TO DETERMINE POSSIBLE OTHER RELATED ISSUES TO SPONTANEOUS AIR SUSPENSION LIFTING. IF FOUND LEAKAGE OF SUSPENSION AIRBAGS, EACH AIR BAG APPROXIMATELY $600 EACH ON REAR SUSPENSION. OWNERS FEELS THIS IS AN OBVIOUS AND WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH RANGE ROVERS (AND OTHER LANDROVER MODELS) WHICH THE MANUFACTURER IS IGNORING. WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE SMOKE APPEARED THROUGH THE CRACKS OF THE DASH BOARD. THE IGNITION WAS TURNED INTO THE OFF POSITION AND WHEN TRYING TO START IT AGAIN, IT DIDN'T TURN, THE IGNITION WAS LOCKED. FLAMES THEN SHOT THROUGH THE CRACKS ON THE DASHBOARD NEAR THE RADIO. WITHIN SECONDS THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED AND WITHIN 3 MINUTES IT WAS TOTALED. THANKFULLY I GOT OUT THE CAR IN TIME. *TR

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 123,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I PURCHASED A 2004 RANGE ROVER ON THE EVENING OF 05/12/11 FROM MOMENTUM LAND ROVER IN TEXAS. ON THE MORNING OF 05/13/11 THE CAR BEGAN TO OVER HEAT AND STOPPED. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY CLAIMED THAT THE WRONG TYPE OF COOLANT WAS PLACED IN THE CAR. MIND YOU, THAT I DID NOT SERVICE THE CAR WITHIN THE 10 HOURS I DROVE OFF THE LOT. THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR 4 DAYS. PICKED THE CAR UP AND TWO DAYS LATER THE SAME THING OCCURRED. IT OVER HEATED AND STOPPED. THIS TIME THE DEALER ST THAT THE THERMOSTAT NEEDED REPLACING. THE CAR WAS THERE FOR 15 DAYS. AGAIN PICKED THE CAR UP AT 6PM AND BY 4PM THE NEXT DAY THE SAME THING IT OVER HEATED AND STOPPED. I HAVE PURCHASED A USED CAR BEFORE, BUT I MUST SAY THIS IS THE WORSE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED DUE TO AN INTERNAL PROBLEM. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 80,000.

THE TRANSMISSION COOLER RUSTED OUT. OUR FAULT SALTY ROADS $1,100.00 NEXT THE RADIATOR GOES $1,800 ON US. BY NOW 72,000 MILES ON IT. KEEP IN MIND MY WIFE ONLY USES TO GOTO GROCERY STORE AND PICK KIDS UP FROM SCHOOL. GOD FORBID WE EVER TOOK IT OFF ROAD OR THRU THE PLAINS OF AFRICA. NOW THE BIGGY STARTS ENGINE SURGING FOR NO REASON, VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL. YES TIRES ARE NEW AND BALANCED. THEN THE NOTORIOUS TRANSMISSION FAILSAFE. LIMPMODE. SAFETY MODE. HOW ABOUT SUCKER MODE. WE HAVE A 2004 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER AND GOING HOME ONE NIGHT IT KEPT DOWN SHIFTING DURING RUSH HOUR CAUSING THE ENGINE TO REV UP SO WE FIGURED IT WAS SOME SORT OF LIMP HOME MODE. THE NEXT MORNING IT STARTED FINE, WE BACKED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND WHEN WE SHIFTED TO DRIVE A TRANSMISSION FAILSAFE CAME ON AND WE COULD NOT EVEN MOVE FORWARD. WE HAD TO BACK OWN THE STREET TO PARK AND THEN CALL A TOW TRUCK. WHEN IT GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND WAS TOLD NO. I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND THERE WAS ONE THAT WOULD CAUSE LOSS OF DRIVE IF IT WASN'T FIXED. I THEN CALLED LAND ROVER AND EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE TRYING TO BE HELPFUL, INFORMING THERE WAS A RECALL AND THAT OUR VEHICLE HAD ALREADY BEEN REPAIRED, THEY WERE COMPLETELY UNABLE TO HELP ME OUT AT ALL. I THINK WHEN YOU BUY A VEHICLE LIKE THIS THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT GO OUT AT 56,000 MILES. INSTEAD I HAVE A $6,000 REPAIR BILL. *TR

THE 2003 LANDROVER FREELANDER STALLED ON 2 SEPERATE OCASSIONS,ONCE IN AN ACTIVE INTERSECTION WITH BARELY MISSING BEING STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE 2ND TIME OCURRED ABOUT 4 MINUTES BEFORE THE PREVIOUS INSTANCE. ADDITIONALLY,THE VEHICLE AS A WHOLE SHOULDN'T BE ON THE HIGHWAY. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND IT'S UNCERTAIN IF IT MAY BE REFURBISHED FROM A AREA WHERE DAMAGE WAS SUCH THAT SOME WORK AND RELOCATION PRESENTED IT FOR SALE ELSEWHERE. THE VEHICLE PURCHASED AT A LITTLE OVER 73,000 MILES HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 14 TIMES IN 27 MONTHS TOTALLING WELL OVER $10,000 IN REPAIRS. I PAID $12,288 FOR THE VEHICLE. INTAKE MANIIFOLD GASKETS,CYLINDER HEAD GASKETS, HEAD BOLTS,CAM BOLTS, THE FAMED "COOLANT LEAK" THAT HAS COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE CAUSING IT TO CEASE UP. THAT'S THE ONLY THING THAT HASN'T HAPPENED MECHANICALLY WITH THIS VEHICLE. I RIDE AROUND, WHEN IT'S NOT IN THE SHOP,WITH COOLANT IN THE BACK IN CASE ITS STARTS TO STEAM AGAIN. LOCK ASSEMBLYS (2X), TORQUE CONVERTER MOTOR,THEMOSTAT AND SEVERAL OTHER ISSUES THAT MAKE IT NON-HIGHWAY WORTHY. THIS IS JUST MINE, AT THE EMUNDS.COM AUTOMOTIVE FORUM AMONG THE MANY OTHERS I VISITED THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS AND ARE LEFT WITH EITHER, BROKEN DOWN SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY, IN THE DRIVEWAY AFTER ITS LAST REPAIR SO MILES ARE KEPT LOW FOR RESALE OR FORCED TO PROCURE ANOTHER VEHICLE OR MODE OF TRANSPORTATION, OR FORCED TO CONTINUE DRIVING IT AS ITS THEIR ONLY SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION AND LOW RESOURCES WHILE STILL PAYING A LOAN ON IT AND AN EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY THAT YOU HOPE DOESN'T DANCE AROUND THE RESPONSIBILITY OF PAYING FOR REPAIRS THAT ARE OBVIOUS COVERED ITEMS IN THE WARRANTY. IT STARTED ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO AFTER I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR A RECALL ISSUE I RECEIVED IN THE MAIL REGARDING THE DIFFERENTIALS AND FRONT DRIVE SHAFT. I FIGURE IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE IT FIXED AS A PREVENTABLE MEASURE. SHORTLY AFTER (ABOUT 2 WEEKS) I STARTED NOTICING "TRANS PROG ERROR" APPEAR ON MY DASHBOARD DISPLAY BUT IT WOULD DISAPPEAR AND REAPPEAR AND FIGURE IF THE LIGHT DOES NOT STAY ON IT SHOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE. THAN MY CAR ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING ON THE FAST LANE OF THE HIGHWAY JUST LOST POWER AND DISPLAYED TO PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL. I HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A SENSOR AND THAT I SHOULD TRY A TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE FIRST. THAT DID NOT HELP, I CONTINUED DRIVING FOR ANOTHER 2 WEEKS WITH GETTING STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY SEVERAL TIMES AT VERY DANGEROUS TIMES (IE. AFTER 2AM) WITH CLOSE CALLS, FORTUNATELY NOTHING HAPPENED TO ME BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THAT THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE. I TOOK THE CAR TO LR DEALERSHIP REPAIR AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER BOX AMONG OTHER THINGS THAT WOULD BRING IT TO A $11-15K JOB. I FIND THIS RIDICULOUS FOR SUCH AN EXPENSIVE CAR THAT WAS WELL TAKEN CARE OF WITH 65,000 MILES. I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BUT A TRANSMISSION SHOULD BE THE LIFE OF A CAR. PLEASE HELP! SUSPENSION: SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT END SUSPENSION WHEN MAKING TURNS AT LOW SPEEDS. IT'S HAPPENS MOSTLY WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT OR WHEN YOU HIT A BUMP OR GO OVER RAILROAD TRACKS. HAD LOWER CONTROL ARM, LOWER STRUT AND LOWER BALL JOINT TO TRY FIX PROBLEM BUT NOT THE CASE STILL HAVING ISSUE. SUSPENSION: FRONT/REAR IMBALANCE THE EAS WILL INTERMITTENTLY RAISE THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND NOT THE REAR. COULD BE PARKED-I GET IN AND START AND IT WILL POP UP-LEAVING THE REAR DOWN SO THE CAR APPEARS TO "SQUAT". HAD HEIGHT SENSORS REPLACED. THE FRONT END HAS OVER 2-3 INCHES GREATER CLEARANCE THAN THE REAR WHEN THIS OCCURS. SUSPENSION: RATTLE UNDER VEHICLE WHEN YOU ACCELERATE BODY: PASSENGER DOOR CAN'T BE OPENED FROM INSIDE OR OUT, DOOR LOCK SEEMS TO FREEZE/JAM. BODY: DOOR SEALS LEAKING WATER GETTING IN BETWEEN THE INNER AND OUTER SEALS ON THE REAR DOORS. LIGHTING: CONDENSATION IN TAIL LIGHTS. *TR

MANY LAND ROVER FREELANDERS ARE HAVING SERIOUS PROBLEMS DUE TO THE FAULTY CONSTRUCTION OF THE ENGINE. PRIOR TO COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE, THERE MAY BE UNEXPLAINED COOLANT LOSS, OVERHEATING, AND OTHER PROBLEMS RELATED TO HEAD GASKET FAILURE. BECAUSE THE CYLINDER LINERS ARE STEEL AND THE BLOCK IS ALLOY, THE CYLINDER LINERS TEND TO WORK THEIR WAY INTO THE BLOCK. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THERE IS NO WAY TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE SHORT OF ENGINE REPLACEMENT, AND MANY OF THE REPLACEMENT ENGINES HAVE THE SAME CONSTRUCTION DEFECT AS THE ORIGINAL VEHICLE. *TR

LESS THAN A YEAR AGO, ON MY 04 RR, I RECEIVED AN MESSAGE ACROSS MY ODOMETER SAYING "AIR SUSPENSION INACTIVE" TOOK IT TO THE DEALER ON 2-1-2008, THE DEALER CHARGED ME $50 TO "CLEARED THE CODES" AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING ELSE WRONG WITH IT. FAST-FORWARD TO 1-15-2009, I RECEIVED THE SAME MESSAGE AGAIN, TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, THIS TIME THEY MENTION I NEEDED A NEW COMPRESSOR, WHICH WILL COST ME $1550. VERY INTERESTING, WHEN I TOOK IT IN WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY THEY COULDN'T IDENTIFIED THE ISSUE FROM SEVERAL VISIT I HAVE MADE IN THE PAST CONCERNING THIS ISSUE, NOW MY VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, THIS MIRACLE FIX JUST POP UP. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS DEALERSHIP AND LANDROVER, TO HAVE SUCH A LONG COMPANY TRADITION AND A REPUTABLE NAME, BUT TIMES LIKE THIS, THEY WOULD NOT STEP UP AND BE ACCOUNTABLE. *TR
ALL RANGE ROVERS FROM 2003-2005 HAVE A FULL AIR RIDE SUSPENSION THAT SUPPORTS THE VEHICLE ON ALL FOUR CORNERS. THE CONCERN IS THAT THE AIRBAG THAT SUPPORTS THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, RUPTURES AND THROWS THE VEHICLE OFF BALANCE WHILE CORNERING CAUSES A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE AIR SUSPENSION FAILS IT ALSO DEACTIVATES THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES MAKING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE OF A LACK OF ABS CONTROL. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT LAND ROVER IS AWARE OF AND ARE NOT MAKING ANY ATTEMPT TO ADDRESS. THIS IS A $1200.00-$1500.00 REPAIR FOR ONE SIDE (LEFT OR RIGHT) NOT BOTH FRONT AIR BAGS THAT SUPPORT THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. IF THIS CONCERNED IS RESEARCHED YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT THE NUMBER OF REPAIRS THAT ARE DONE AND PAID FOR BY RANGE ROVER OWNERS, BECAUSE THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS NOT REPORTED OR ADDRESSED. I AM EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE NOW. *TR
NO PROBLEMS OBSERVED WITH THE CAR. SUDDENLY THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME LOOSE AND FELL DOWN TO A POSITION WHERE THE BOTTOM OF THE WHEEL WAS STUCK BETWEEN MY LEGS. THE TILT MECHANISM FAILED WHILE THE CAR WAS THE MOVING AND THE WHEEL, ALTHOUGH ATTACHED TO THE CAR, WAS FORCED DOWN ONTO MY LEGS. STEERING WHEEL WOULD NO LONGER STAY IN A DRIVABLE POSITION WITHOUT $1300 REPLACEMENT OF STEERING COLUMN. THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH RANGE ROVERS (IT WAS EASY TO FIND MANY OTHERS ONLINE WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM) AND LAND ROVER HAD A RECALL ON ANOTHER PART A YEAR AGO, WHICH THEY DENY HAD ANY IMPACT ON THIS. SPOKE TO DEALER AND LAND ROVER NORTH AMERICA, NO COMPENSATION WAS OBTAINED, THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED IN THE FAULT. ONE DEALER TOLD ME SOME CUSTOMERS HAD THIS PROBLEM MULTIPLE TIMES AND HAD THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE 50,000 MILES. UNACCEPTABLE ON AN $80,000 CAR. DANGEROUS *TR
