MY DASH BOARD IS MELTING AND THE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD IS REALLY BAD. IT'S HARD TO DRIVE DURING THE DAY AND SOMETIMES AT NIGHT WHEN THE STREET LIGHTS REFLECT FROM THE SHINNY MELTED DASHBOARD. IVE CALLED LEXUS MANY TIMES AND WAS TOLD TO WAIT. ITS BEEN 3 YEARS NOW AND THE DASH IS GETTING WORST WITH TIME AND THE GLARE IS BECOMING INTOLERABLE. I'VE ALMOST HIT OR RAN OVER ITEMS I DID NOT SEE DUE TO THE GLARE. NOT SAFE! I TRY AND NOT DRIVE DURING NOON TIME BUT LIVE IN SOUTH FLORIDA. IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY. THE PICTURE IS ON A GOOD DAY.
EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED BY A COUPLE OF ISSUES LEXUS REFUSES TO FIX. I BOUGHT THIS CAR WITH 84K ON THE ODOMETER AND LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER THAT ALL THESE PROBLEMS ARISE. THE STEERING IS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ASAP. DRIVING ANYTHING OVER 50 MPH THE STEERING STARTS TO BECOME NOTCHY AT THE CENTER AND AT TIMES DIFFICULT TO KEEP IN A STRAIGHT LINE. THE STEERING WHEEL WHINES AS I TURN ALMOST AS IF SOMETHING IS ABOUT TO BREAK. LEXUS QUOTED ME $3000 TO REPLACE THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. I WOULD LOVE TO REPLACE IT BUT $3000 DOLLARS ON A PART THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE BROKEN ANYTIME SOON IS VERY DISAPPOINTING. THEN TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE THERE IS A KNOWN ENGINE LEAK. THE TIMING CHAIN COVER LEAKS OIL AND THE DEALER QUOTED ME $5000 DOLLARS TO FIX IT. THAT IS $8000 DOLLARS WORTH OF REPAIRS FOR TWO PROBLEMS THAT LEXUS NEEDS TO RECOGNIZE. THIS DOESN'T INCLUDE THE OTHER VERY COMMON PROBLEMS SUCH AS THE NAVIGATION SCREEN MELTING IN THE SUMMER TIME SO THAT IT IS INOPERABLE. NOW THE DASHBOARD BECOMES STICKY AND SHINY MAKING IT HARD TO SEE IN THE DAYTIME AND IT CHIPS SO EASILY. IM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED DUE TO THE FACT THAT LEXUS USUALLY MAKES SOLID VEHICLES. MANY OTHER OWNERS ARE FACING THE SAME ISSUES AND THEY NEED TO BE RECOGNIZED. *TR
THE REAR VIEW MIRROR HAS BECOME BLACKENED WITH SPOTS OVER TIME, VISIBILITY IS REDUCED. *TR
MY DASH AND DOORS ARE MELTING. I TOOK MY CAR TO LEXUS LAST YEAR AND THEY OFFERED TO PAY FOR HALF, BUT MY HALF WAS TOO EXPENSIVE FOR ME TO PAY, 3,000.00. I ALSO DON'T FEEL THAT I SHOULD PAY FOR A MELTING CAR WHEN I TAKE EXCELLENT CARE OF MY CAR. IT IS ALWAYS IN THE GARAGE WHEN I AM AT HOME, AND I KEEP A SUN SHIELD IN THE DASH WHEN I AM AT WORK. I LOVE MY CAR AND IT ONLY HAS 78,000 MILES; IT RUNS GREAT, BUT IT IS MELTING! I CALLED LEXUS AGAIN WHEN I HEARD A STORY ON THE NEWS THAT OTHERS WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THEY TOLD ME TO HAVE IT INSPECTED AGAIN, AND THEN INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD PROBABLY NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIR BECAUSE MY CAR IS A 2006. I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO SELL IT UNLESS I RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. THE DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND MELTING, WHICH CAUSES A BLINDING GLARE WHEN DRIVING MAKING IT HARD TO SEE WHEN DRIVING. *TR
BOUGHT A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED 2006 LEXUS IS250 FROM HAWAII DEALER, NOTICED THERE WAS A MASSIVELY BLINDING GLARE FROM THE DASHBOARD WHEN DRIVING DURING THE MORNING AND EVENING HOURS. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THE DASHBOARD AND VARIOUS OTHER INTERIOR TRIM PIECES FELT SOFT/STICKY AND WOULD EASILY SCRATCH AND GOUGE. THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN PROBLEM AMONG OWNERS OF 2006-2013 LEXUS IS SEDANS. *JS
The contact owns a 2006 Lexus IS. The contact stated that the dashboard was melted and was causing vision impairment while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be inspected. The vehicle was inspected, and the diagnosis was confirmed. The contact was informed that the warranty had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The dash of my vehicle melts on moderately warm days. It gets so shiny that it reflects off the windshield, making it very difficult to see. Others have also complained about the fumes making them physically ill. The manufacturer had a brief program (ZLD) to replace the dashboard, but I did not receive a notification and missed the very short window. I don't understand how this is something that they can now refuse to fix in my vehicle when it clearly affects safety. This is a recurring and persistent issue and has been for years.

DASH IS VERY STICKY, THIS CAUSES A VISUALLY IMPAIRING GLARE DURING THE DAYTIME. THE GLARE IS SO BAD THAT SOMETIMES YOU CANNOT SEE THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU WITHOUT WEARING SUNGLASSES.
WHENEVER THE CAR IS EXPOSED UNDER THE SUN. THE DASHBOARD SEEMS TO BE MELTING WHICH MAKES IT SHINY AND IS MAKING DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. *TR
THE MATERIAL ON THE FRONT DASHBOARD AND FRONT DOOR SIDES IS SOFTENING AND MELTING. IT IS EXTREMELY WORSE DURING THE SUMMER SEASON. IT LEAVES AN ADHESIVE TYPE RESIDUE ON EVERYTHING THAT TOUCHES IT. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO ADVISED THAT THE DOOR PANELS AND THE DASH BOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED FROM A DEALERSHIP IN MIAMI, FL. THE FIRST COUPLE OF WEEKS I NOTICED THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOOR PANELS WERE GETTING SCRATCHED BY SIMPLY TOUCHING THEM. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER THAT, THE DASHBOARD ON THE VEHICLE STARTED TO "MELT" AND BECAME VERY STICKY. ALSO BY SIMPLY TOUCHING THE DASHBOARD, IT BECOME/BECOMES SCRATCHED AND PIECES COME OUT WHEN TOUCHED WITH FINGERNAILS. SOMETIMES IT IS DIFFICULT/IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE WHEN THE SUN IS OUT BECAUSE IT CREATES A HUGE GLARE DUE TO THE DASH MELTING. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING WORST AS TIME PASSES. I CONTACTED THE DEALER REGARDING THE PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE AWARE OF IT BUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE LABOR AND DASH COST IF I WANTED THE PROBLEM TO GO AWAY, EST COST: $1200. THE SAME PROBLEMS ARE ON DRIVER, PASSENGER AND BACKSEAT DOOR PANELS. *TR
VEHICLE RANDOMLY SHAKES, INTERMITTENTLY RUNS ROUGH WHILE BRAKING. DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE ISSUE 3 TIMES UNTIL RECENT CHECK FOUND ENGINE PISTONS AND VALVE SPRINGS NEED TO BE REPLACED. LEXUS AGREED TO ACCOMMODATE SERVICE AND LABOR COSTS BUT PARTS ARE BACK ORDERED REQUIRING A WEEK OR TWO WAIT TIME FOR REPAIR. *TR
I NOTICED THAT THE DASH BOARD AND THE SIDE PANELS (BOTH SIDES -DRIVERS AND PASSENGER SIDE) ON MY LEXUS-IS-350 HAVE BEEN MELTING AWAY SINCE JULY 2010 AND AFTER MUCH COMPLAINT, THE DEALER REPLACED THE DASH BOARD COVER IN FEBRUARY 2013. HOWEVER THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT REFUSES TO REPLACE THE SIDE PANELS. THEY NAMED THE PROBLEM AS A "COSMETIC CONCERN" ON 2/26/2013 WHEN I COMPLAINED THAT THE COLOR OF THE REPLACED DASH DID NOT MATCH AND THE MATERIAL APPEARED TO BE OF LOWER QUALITY. I LEARNED RECENTLY FROM AN INVESTIGATIVE REPORT IN SOUTH FLORIDA (NBC- 6) THAT THE LEXUS HAD ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN IN 2011 ABOUT THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT PROBLEM (CALLED INTERIOR PANEL SHINING...."STICKY LEATHER PROBLEM"). BUT THE DEALERSHIP NEVER INFORMED ME OF THIS SERVICE BULLETIN AT THE TIME IT CAME TO THEM. I BELIEVE THAT THE LEATHER PARTS (BOTH DASH BOARD AND SIDE PANELS) ARE A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT AND SHOULD REPLACE IT AT THEIR EXPENSE ALTHOUGH I AM OUT OF WARRANTY AT THIS TIME. THE SMELL FROM THE MELTING PARTS, I SUSPECT CAN BE TOXIC. AT TIMES, I GET AN ALLERGIC REACTION WHEN DRIVING THE CAR. *TR
MY REAR VIEW MIRROR IS DISCOLORED AND HAS BLACK SPOTS ON IT. IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE AND IT'S DIFFICULT TO SEE. I'VE TOLD THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY SAID IT WOULD COST OVER 800 TO REPLACE THE PART. I SEE MANY LEXUS OWNERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND I BELIEVE ITS A DEFAULT IN THE PART. I DON'T THINK I SHOULD PAY 800 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. *TR
REAR BRAKE CALIPERS SEIZED, NEEDED REPLACEMENT. EXCESS RUST, MATERIAL APPEARS DEFECTIVE. ALSO CAUSE OF REAR BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT. *TR
REAR VIEW MIRROR ON MY 2006 LEXUS IS350 HAS HORRIBLE VISIBILITY. IT IS NOT DAMAGED ON THE SURFACE. THE SURFACE IS SMOOTH AND CLEAN, HOWEVER THERE ARE MULTIPLE SPOTS WHERE VISIBILITY IS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD AND TOP SECTION OF THE FRONT DOOR PANELS IN MY 2006 LEXUS IS250 ARE BASICALLY MELTING. THE CONSISTENCY HAS DETERIORATED SO DRASTICALLY THAT THE DASH IS SHINY, STICKY AND COVERED IN SMALL NICKS AND SCRATCHES. THE DASH IS SO SOFT EVEN THE SLIGHTEST TOUCH LEAVES A PERMANENT SCAR! EFFORTS TO CLEAN OR TREAT THE DASH/DOOR PANELS ARE USELESS - ANYTHING I USE JUST STICKS. MY CLOTHES HAVE BEEN RUINED BY BLACK STICKY RESIDUE FROM SIMPLY COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE DOOR PANELS. THE SHEEN FROM THE MELTING DASH REFLECTS DIRECTLY ONTO THE WINDSHIELD AT SUCH AN ANGLE THAT IT'S DIFFICULT TO SEE IN SOME LIGHTING. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING ERROR LEXUS REFUSES TO CORRECT. ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. *TR
ISSUES WITH MELTING DASHBOARD DUE TO TEXAS HEAT. DASH FALLING APART AND HAS SOFT SPOTS CAUSING A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD WHEN HIT BY SUNLIGHT. *JS
L-SB-0167-08 THE SRS AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON FOR AWHILE. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN DEFECT AND ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLE. A FAULTY WIRE HARNESS. THERE IS TSB BUT IT IS ONLY COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I FIND IT SURPRISING THAT THIS IS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY RECALL GIVEN THE POTENTIAL HARM AND RISK OF THE AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYING DUE TO A FAULTY HARNESS.
INTERIOR PANEL PARTS (DASHBOARD, DOOR PANELS) MELTS IN HOT, HUMID CLIMATES. DURING THE SUMMER OF 2012 MY USED (PURCHASED IN MAY 2012) LEXUS IS350'S DASHBOARD AND UPPER DOOR PANEL SURFACES WOULD GLISTEN AND EMIT A STRONG CHEMICAL ODOR WHEN PARKED OUTSIDE IN THE SUN/HEAT. THE WET DASHBOARD SURFACE WOULD REFLECT OFF THE WINDSHIELD AND IMPAIR VISION DURING DRIVING. IT WOULD TAKE LESS THAN 30 MINS PARKED IN THE SUN/HEAT FOR THE PANEL SURFACES TO BEGIN GLISTENING. ATTEMPTS TO CLEAN THE SURFACE OF THE DASHBOARD AND DOOR PANELS DID NOT WORK, AS THE MATERIAL REMAINING WOULD AGAIN MELT AND GLISTEN. LEXUS HAS ISSUED AN INTERNAL SERVICE BULLETIN TO ITS DEALERSHIPS OF THE PROBLEM. I COMPLAINED TO LEXUS AND THEY AGREED TO COMPENSATE ME FOR THE COST OF A NEW DASHBOARD, BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE LABOR (AROUND $800). I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE DOOR PANELS MYSELF WITH USED ONES SOURCED FROM LESS HOT/HUMID CLIMATES (4 AT AROUND $150 EACH). THIS IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE, AS VISION WHILE DRIVING WAS SIGNIFICANTLY IMPEDED BY THE REFLECTION OFF THE DASHBOARD. IN ADDITION TO THIS IMMEDIATE SAFETY RISK, THE STRONG CHEMICAL SMELL IN THE CAR COULD BE POTENTIALLY TOXIC AND POSE LONG-TERM HEALTH RISKS. *TR
DASH STARTED TO MELT IN THE SUN. DASH BECAME BRITTLE AND STICKY AND GLARED IN THE SUN. LEXUS REPLACED THE DASH AS A GOOD WILL GESTURE. NOW MY DOOR PANELS ARE DOING THE SAME. THEY ISSUED A TECHNICAL ISSUE ON THIS. BUT STILL WON'T REPLACE AS NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED YET. I CAN PAY THE 2000.00 AND IF A RECALL IS DONE THEY WILL REIMBURSE ME. MY WIFE'S IS 250 WAS TAKEN IN FOR IT'S 40,000 MI. OIL CHANGE. SHE RECEIVED A CALL THAT THE REAR BRAKES NEEDED NEW ROTORS, PADS AND CALIPERS. I CALLED AN WAS TOLD THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING AT ALL BECAUSE THE CALIPERS WERE FROZEN. I WAS ALSO TOLD STRANGELY ENOUGH THAT THE ROTORS WERE RUSTED AND HAD A RIDGE ON THEM AND COULD NOT BE MACHINED DESPITE THE CALIPERS BEING FROZEN. ONE PROBABLE CAUSE I WAS TOLD WAS BECAUSE THE CAR HAD LOW MILES ON IT. IT GETS DRIVEN EVERY DAY ABOUT 20-30 MILES. ACCORDING TO THEM MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AROUND IN A CAR WITH NO REAR BRAKES. I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A SATISFACTORY ANSWER FROM THE DEALER ABOUT WHY THIS COULD HAPPEN>

DASHBOARD WOULD REFLECT LIGHT, CAUSING PROBLEMS SEEING OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD. LEXUS ALSO AGREED TO PARTIALLY PAY FOR DOOR PANELS, BUT BECAUSE MY COST WOULD STILL HAVE BEEN OVER $1500, I COULD NOT ACCEPT THEIR OFFER. I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALER THAT THEY HAD NEVER SEEN THIS, WHICH I LATER CAME TO FIND OUT THIS WAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. A SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED MONTHS PRIOR THAT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT. *JS
AFTER SPENDING LOTS OF MONEY ON LEXUS I DIDN'T EXPECT FOR IT TO BE MELTING. THE WHOLE DASHBOARD AND SIDE PANELS ARE TURNING STICKY AND MELTING. WHEN I TOUCH IT MY FINGERS TURN BLACK AND STICKY. ITS ALSO HARD TO SEE WHEN THE SUN SHINES DIRECTLY ON THE CAR BECAUSE THE DASH REFLECTS THE SUN FROM THE WINDSHIELD. *JS

ALL REGULATIONS PART 571 < 571.110 571.112 > SUBPART B - FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS 571.111 STANDARD NO. 111; REARVIEW MIRRORS. S1. SCOPE. THIS STANDARD SPECIFIES REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PERFORMANCE AND LOCATION OF REARVIEW MIRRORS. S2. PURPOSE. THE PURPOSE OF THIS STANDARD IS TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF DEATHS AND INJURIES THAT OCCUR WHEN THE DRIVER OF A MOTOR VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A CLEAR AND REASONABLY UNOBSTRUCTED VIEW TO THE REAR. *TR

SUN CAUSES SHINY DASH WHICH RESULTS IN A SAFETY ISSUE WITH RESULTING EXCESSIVE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD. CRACKS AND SPLITTING IN DASH MAY RESULT IN POSSIBLE DEGRADATION TO THE PASSENGER FRONT AIR BAG BECAUSE THE CRACKS AND SPLITS IN DASH COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. *TR
1) Keep getting rotten egg smell from exhaust during acceleration; smell like it is coming from catalytic converters/exhaust system or front of engine. Never had or was informed by dealership that exhaust system could be replaced by Lexus although I brought my vehicles in several time for recalls. Brought vehicle in for recall to Fresno Lexus in 2020 never informed by dealership of Lexus being able to fix issue for free although I had told them of issue. Seems to be very toxic smell; gives me headaches while driving!!!!!!! Lexus should have repaired the issued for free when informed years ago but did nothing!!!!!

WHEN YOU SPEND TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON A CAR, YOU DON'T EXPECT IT TO LITERALLY MELT AWAY. MY 2006 LEXUS IS 250 IT'S LITERALLY MELTING AWAY, EVERY DAY. THE DASHBOARD AND SIDE PANELS ARE TURNING STICKY AND MELTING IN THE FLORIDA SUN. WHEN I TOUCH THE DASHBOARD MY FINGERS STICK AND TURN BLACK. IT MAKES ME MAD!! EVERY TIME I GET IN MY CAR I WORRY THE MELTING DASHBOARD COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE. THE DASH REFLECTS THE SUN FROM THE WINDSHIELD AND IT CAUSES THIS REFLECTION SO IT SOMETIMES BECOMES HARD TO SEE. *JS
STICKY / MELTING DASH, DASH CRACKING, ALL DOOR PANELS MELTING AND CRACKING STAINING CLOTHES WHEN COMES IN CONTACT WITH. BOTH PROBLEMS CREATING A GLARE WHEN DRIVING. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW AND LEXUS WOULD NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT KNOWING ITS DEFECTIVE, EVEN WHEN IT WAS UNDER THE BUMPER TO BUMPER AND LEXUS BRAND EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE CAR IS UNDER THE SUN 1 HR PER DAY WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE IS IN A GARAGE BOTH AT HOME AND WORK AND THIS STILL HAPPENED. *TR
THE INSIDE PANELS OF THE DOORS ARE ALL NICKED UP WITH DEEP GOUGES. WHEN WE HAVE HOT WEATHER IT GETS STICKY AND SOFT AND ANY NICK OR BUMP SHOWS UP. JUST LIKE THE DASH BOARDS. I HAVE NO KIDS OR PETS IN THE CAR, I AM THE ONLY ADULT DRIVES AND IT LOOKS AWEFUL.
