NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The contact owns a 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds, the power steering assist failed to operate as needed. There was an audible chime with the power steering message flashing on the instrument panel before the steering wheel seized for several seconds. Despite the failure, the vehicle resumed normal operation soon after the temporary failure. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that a low battery voltage might have caused the power steering failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the battery was tested. The dealer determined that there was no fault found with the battery. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.
There was one alert soon after I left Gallup NM, the engine heat light went off very briefly then went off (mile marker 6). The close to Miler marker 340 in AZ the card complete shut down and I had no control over the car. I had to pull over. I was in the middle of no where with no cell service. I was eventually able to reach my father Via Whatsapp/ I tried multiple times to call my husband but had no service. I added water to the radiator and sat the car for several minutes. The outside temperature was 41. I was not near anything. I was able to start the car and drive very slow without the engine light alerting me. I pulled over at the next exit that had a gas station and purchased Antifreeze and water. I called my father again and did a video call to make sure I was doing it correctly. I then drove only 40 miles when the engine light alerted and added more coolant. I drove slowly and once in Flagstaff checked my oil. I was in constant contact with my father and husband. I stopped 8x to fill the vehicle's radiator. I arrived home very late and exhausted. On March 2 I contacted my mechanic but could not get the vehicle into him for inspection until March 9. On March 10, I was notified that there had been recalls and the head gasgette for my car but I do not see any recalls in the system at this time. My mechanic reported the engine was done and he would purchase a used enghine to start a rebuild. He was later alerted to the turbo charge having damage and it needed to be replaced as well. The transmission fluid was black. There are concerns that this car has higher milage on the vehicle due to rust, dark trans fuild and the overall appearance of the engine once it was removed. I proceeded to pay for a Car Fax report. This vehicle has only 53,900 miles and too low for this much damage and concerns. The car was purchased in Nevada and undetermined if known concerns were apparent. It is quite concerning being stranded in the middle of no where and your car stopping.
The contact owns a 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver’s side air bag unexpectedly deployed, and the blind spot and cross-traffic system fault messages were displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle was able to be restarted, and no medical attention was required. The contact’s spouse’s arm was struck by the air bag, and the contact stated that both occupants were shaken up by the failure. The contact stated that following the failure, the windows, heating system, and radio became inoperable. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Transmission is jerking at speeds around 25mph.
Adaptive Steering Fault Service Required - This warning came on while I was driving down the road. The steering wheel automatically went from a center position to the left like I was making a left turn. The vehicle continued going straight with the steering wheel in the left position. Needless to say, It was very alarming when this happened. I drove home and made an appointent for service. The next day the fault code was off and steering was normal but I still brought it to my Lincoln dealership for service and they said a module in the steering column is faulty. In Fords/Lincoln design you cannot just replace the module, you need to replace the entire steering column at a price of $5000.00 (part 3600.00, labor 1400.00). I did find on the interweb that this has been a problem with Ford trucks and a few other Naultilus owners have reported this problem.
Okay let me first start by saying I have had problem after problem with this car in less than a year. I’ve had to replace my purge valve. The transmission on this car is horrible. I had my car less than a year and at not even 70k miles I had to get my transmission replaced because the car would stutter between 25-45mph thankfully my warranty covered everything. Now let’s get to my current issues which is with the adaptive steering malfunction. I got a steering wheel warning light 3 days before my new transmission. As I’m looking into this more this will cost $2000+ to replace and I don’t have money to constantly keep putting into a car especially with everything going on currently.
Constant shattering/jerking when accelerating and trouble light on indicator on car dash indicating torque converter issues after I diagnostic it with a OBD reader. This is a known issue and should’ve been recalled a long time ago.
Car starts to buck when changing gears
transmission problems including harsh shifting, shuttering, lurching, hesitating, or slowing down when shifting gears. No warning lights illuminated but after dealer inspection, have been told that both the transmission (harsh shift in all gears) and rear axle (popping and grinding while turning) need to be replaced. The vehicle is not safe to drive. Cost of repairs is quoted at more than $14,000. This issue/defect appears to have a class action associated with it; why has there been no manufacturer recall?
The Nautilus began shuddering while accelerating from about 15 to 45 mph. I took it to a Lincoln dealer and was told the transmission needed to be repaired or replaced for $7,000 plus. It has 88,000 miles on it
Component: Engine Vehicle: 2019 Lincoln Nautilus – 2.0L EcoBoost Mileage at failure: ~76550 Incident date: August 2025 Narrative (paste this): My 2019 Lincoln Nautilus equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine experienced a sudden low-coolant warning followed by rapid overheating and complete engine shutdown in August 2025 at approximately 70,000 miles. After adding coolant, the warning immediately returned and the vehicle entered reduced-power mode and became inoperable within about 20 miles, requiring towing. An independent repair facility performed diagnostic testing confirming coolant intrusion into the engine cylinders, internal engine failure, and coolant pooling in the cylinder head area. Diagnostic trouble codes included P0217, P0316, and P0128. The engine and turbocharger required full replacement at a cost exceeding $6,900 paid out of pocket. This failure matches Ford Technical Service Bulletins TSB 19-2172 and TSB 19-2346, which acknowledge coolant intrusion in 2.0L EcoBoost engines requiring long-block replacement. The failure created a serious safety hazard because the vehicle overheated and shut down during travel in extreme Arizona summer heat, leaving occupants stranded for hours awaiting a tow truck. This appears to be part of a widespread known defect involving coolant intrusion in Ford 2.0L EcoBoost engines. I am reporting this for safety investigation and defect tracking.
Both rear sealbelts stopped retracting. They both quit working within 2 days of each other. I did schedule an apt and take to dealership who stayed there was no recall for issue and it would be out of pocket. Suggested I contact NHTSA
Jerks and stutters 3 months after I bought the car.
While in cruise control with lane assist on the car slowed down immediately with no cars or any obstacles around. This has happened three times. I’m at the point where I don’t trust it.
We have already had major repairs to this vehicle. Replaced head gasket and torque converter with only 60,938 miles. Fortunately we caught those under warranty but had to spend $1043.28 on a purge valve replacement at 67,795 miles. Lincoln sold us on service and reliability but moved out of the Calallen area shortly after we purchased the vehicle and left us without a loaner vehicle at any of the local Ford dealerships. Closest Lincoln dealership is in San Antonio 2 hrs away. Currently, we have sluggish acceleration with the check engine light code - P0401 - indicating a problem with the EGR valve. We replaced EGR valve and cleared the check engine light but sluggish acceleration remains. We no longer have the time or money to put into this poorly manufactured vehicle as we need this vehicle for transportation to work.
Exhaust heat shield comes loose. This could cause a grass fire or damage to the car itself posing a potential for injury. This obviously is an engineering flaw that should be looked at and repaired. I looked on line and there are several people that has this problem. My car will be in shop again for this tomorrow.
I brought my Lincoln Nautilus to an authorized Lincoln dealership due to a serious transmission issue. The dealer kept the vehicle for four days, diagnosed a potential transmission failure, and told me that the transmission could “blow.” However, they returned the car to me unrepaired and admitted they could not fix it anytime soon. The reason: the dealership has only one transmission technician, and that person is currently working through a backlog of transmission jobs from March. My vehicle — with a known safety risk — was effectively placed at the back of a months-long line, with no estimated repair date. I contacted Lincoln Concierge, who opened a case but informed me there was “nothing they could do.” I now have a car that is unsafe to drive due to a transmission issue that the manufacturer and dealership both acknowledge but are unable to address in a timely or safe manner. This presents a serious safety risk. A transmission failure while driving could result in loss of control, sudden deceleration, or breakdown in active traffic. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue as a systemic safety failure — both in terms of the defect itself and Lincoln’s inability to service it promptly.
I know there is a bulletin out from Ford about the PCM , where it says recall on the bottom, yet unannounce. This mimics the issues with the torque converter, the ones that I have in my 2019 lincoln nautilus. About two months ago, I felt a kick. where It thought I had been hit by another car, it was so hard. From that point on, the smoothness of the transmission below 35 miles/hr, was jerky and hesitant, kicking and not accelerating properly. The dealer said that it was the torque converter and that it was very bad. The car is too new to have these types of catastrophic issues. It was $9000 to resolve the issue according to the dealer. I had to go somewhere else. Also the screen has problems where it turns blue, and stops working, where the music playing will also stop and you cannot skip to another song. A hard reboot is the solution, but on a daily basis? I know that other models, the Aviator and Corsair, have the same issues. I have the same problem. When contacting Lincoln dealer for the same issue, they state there is no recall. I really like the Lincoln but there seem to be quite a few problems. Will these be placed in a recall list? The fixes so far have been really expensive.
The contact owns a 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle however, the failure recurred while parking the vehicle and while at a complete stop. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH downhill, a coolant message was displayed. The contact decelerated and drove to the residence. The contact's neighbor assisted the contact in adding coolant to the vehicle. The contact stated while driving to an independent mechanic, the contact noticed white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. The mechanic diagnosed that the engine was blown due to coolant intrusion in the cylinders and needed to be replaced. The mechanic ordered the part and replaced the engine. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer to be reprogrammed; however, the dealer informed the contact that the new engine had failed due to coolant intrusion in the cylinders. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced and ordered the part. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.
While driving bad smell of rotten eggs probably coming from the catalytic converter Catalytic converter not big enough to handle all the fumes while driving at 65 mph rotten egg smell can kill you.
I purchased my vehicle in October 2024, and on Jan 2025 I begin experiencing jerking, misfiring, car not accelerating and unable to reverse. I reached out to multiple car dealers and they were unable to diagnose the problem. Today, January 21st I took my vehicle of less than a year to Ourisman Lincoln and was informed I needed to replace my 2019 Lincoln Transmission. This is devastating, as I’m unable to afford 9K dollar repair on a vehicle with only 59K miles.
The contact owns a 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle was shuddering and losing motive power. The contact stated that the message "Engine Overheating" was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the 12-Volt battery and the EGR system had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V378000 (Engine); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
The car will sit and will not start I took it back to dealership after a jump off and it kept starting. The problem is I have keep a jump off cable with me to insure when it won't start I can start it. I seen where the Corsairs are having g same problems and think that Lincoln should also include the Nautilus also. When it happen and gets check out can't find the problem. Please advise
While driving, the entire dashboard and instrument cluster intermittently go completely blank, disabling visibility of speed, gear position, warning lights, turn signals, and other critical information. The failure occurs suddenly and without warning. The cluster then goes through multiple reboot cycles, sometimes several times in a row. In many cases, normal operation does not return until the vehicle is fully shut off and restarted. This creates a serious safety risk, especially at highway speeds or at night. The issue first occurred around 71,000 miles (Oct 2024) and has recurred multiple times. The most recent incident occurred on Oct 31, 2025 at approximately 84,200 miles. The vehicle has been to a Lincoln dealership in Raleigh, NC for four repair attempts (Dec 2024–Oct 2025). Multiple electrical modules have been replaced (battery, fuse junction box, trunk module, telematics module, keyless entry keypad), and Lincoln engineers were consulted, but the defect remains unresolved. No diagnostic trouble codes were stored during the most recent failure. The vehicle is currently covered under a Lincoln ESP PremiumCARE warranty through 2030, and the defect remains intermittent and unresolved.
Swollen lug nuts!had to pay to get them replaced.is there any recall so i can get my money back?
This car has had continued issues with gear shifting up and down. It was bright into a dealership last year to fix the recall issues, however, it seems to have made it worse. The acceleration suddenly drops when going up a hill and revs loudly, pushing the pedal nearly to the ground unexpectedly. It seems to get stuck between gears both up shifting and down. It's nearly caused accidents.
See attached document for complaint.
Rear hatch does not open. You can not manually open it from outside or inside. My wife had a flat on the highway and could not change her tire as she could not access it. The hatch as failed on the button on the dash, the remote key fob and the foot opener under bumper. This is so dangerous for safety to exit the car from inside and well as getting to spare tire.
There have been consistent issues with the car due to the electrical system. The car has purchased 3/24/23 as used. The car has been in for maintenance and repairs 5 times since June 6, 2024 at the cost of $3,744.88. The car has cut off while driving. One time it happened on a a major thoroughfare at rush hour. The engine light came on. When the car stopped, it wouldn’t restart. It was towed to Lithia Springs Ford. The fuel pump and driver module was replaced for $1,706.10 on 7/12/24. On 8/21/24, all the lights came on the dashboard. The car was diagnosed and the GSM was replaced as well as the repair connector C219, Power Relay at the cost of $967.83. 9/9/24, the check engine light came on and the car was diagnosed and the purge value assembly and was replaced at the cost of $543.67. Presently, the car is in for repair again for replacement of the fuse panel, with the estimated cost of between $700-$800.
The acceleration of the car became difficult and was followed by noise and switch to high gears. Was about to enter an expressway. Did a U-turn last moment. Turned back home and was barely able to park it on the driveway. Was driving with the [XXX] toddler in my car during a thunderstorm. Was lucky the car didn’t stop on expressway. Noticed that the driveway is covered in fluid with rainbow coloring. That trip was about 10 minutes long, that it took me to drive and come back. The shifting of the gears are now impossible. Was slowly entering my garage when there was a sudden acceleration. Put on brake but not before my car went thru the back garage wall and fell about four feet down before hitting the patio floor. It traveled across the patio and went over some furniture on the deck. The air bag never went off. The transmission had been very temperamental before this happened. I was not injured but could have caused a real issue had I been in traffic. I love the car but I personally will not drive it again. It is a 2019 Lincoln Nautilus.
Complete loss of brakes while driving. thankfully it was very soon after leaving home. Brake pedal was extremely stiff, and the brakes would not work. Upon investigation it was found the camshaft coupler screw broke inside the camshaft and the vacuume pump had failed. This is an extremely dangerous design due to 0 warning lights on dash, and no prior warnings. Just a complete loss of brakes abruptly.
The component that has failed is the Transmisson. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. We are at risk of being stranded on major highways with small children every day. This vehicle problem has been inspected by both the dealer and two independent service centers. There was one symptom noted that behaved like there may have been water in the gasoline tank. After several attempts to solve the problem, including a Tune-up, we began to see symbols that suggested a more severe problem. These symptoms began the Spring of 2024. There are still warning lamps, messages and frightening symptoms that have resulted from this system failure. I LOVE my vehicle. Imagine my disappointment to learn that many FORD vehicles are under a "silent recall" for such repair that the company is well aware of, yet you sold me this vehicle anyway. Please notify me that you will replace the Transmission or give me full trade in value toward a 2025 Lincoln Nautilus. Our family has been a FORD family for many years. We'd like to remain. What can you do? Thank you for your careful consideration.
My vehicle is experiencing the exact symptoms of the recall [XXX] although my VIN is not listed under this recall. The vehicle shutters and jerks upon acceleration up to around 30 miles per hour. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On Sunday, March 3rd, 2024, I was backing out of garage to head to grocery store and my car was in reverse but would not move when I turned it. I thought I had hit it in neutral by mistake. So I put it in forward and then reversed it again. It seem fine so I went to grocery store and when I turned to go into a parking space it would not move as almost it was in neutral. Then my AWD Malfunction light came on so I called my husband and we were 5 minutes from dealer ship so we took it there and dropped it off. Monday, I called dealer ship to have them look at it and they told me that my rear differential motor had to be replaced at a cost of $1800 and it was not covered under power train warranty because the part did pop up when it was entered. Car only has 44K miles on it...Waiting on someone from Ford to call back to see why it is not covered.
Purchased car from a dealer in 2024 with 40k plus miles. Did not notice upon purchasing, but since to 64,750 miles the transmission regularly shifts with harsh, shuddering , or jerking instances. We have not reported this but it is concerning, that it may cause a permanent failure to the transmission. Hoped it had a recall, but no, not for that! Have seen plenty of complaints about this problem, and wish Lincoln would FIX IT!
Component: Power Train / Transmission Vehicle: 2019 Lincoln Nautilus – 8F35 transmission Mileage first noticed: At Test drive and purchase (~61,405 miles) Status: Ongoing defect My 2019 Lincoln Nautilus has exhibited persistent hesitation, jerking, and harsh engagement during acceleration from a stopped position since the time of purchase at approximately 61,000 miles. The condition occurs repeatedly during normal driving and was reported to a Lincoln dealership service department, which stated the concern could not be duplicated and later described the behavior as “normal for that model.” The drivability problem has never been repaired and continues to occur. Ford has issued multiple Technical Service Bulletins relating to harsh shifting, shudder, and drivability concerns in vehicles equipped with the 8F35 transmission, indicating manufacturer awareness of the condition. The hesitation and jerking create a potential safety concern when entering traffic or accelerating from intersections because vehicle response is delayed and unpredictable. I am submitting this complaint to document an ongoing transmission defect affecting safe vehicle operation.
The contact owns a 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the instrument panel intermittently went blank. The contact stated that the instrument panel remained blank for a while before operating normally. A message stating system off to save battery; please turn ignition off or start engine was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was repaired. The contact was informed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V076000 (Electrical System) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 33,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the instrument cluster failed to operate as needed. The contact was not able to see if any warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the contact was not sure if the vehicle was diagnosed. The dealer was unable to find a failure with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V076000 (Electrical System). The dealer confirmed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 41,000.
Reported to Lincoln over a year ago about DEATH WOBBLE on this vehicle. Have taken to 3 dealerships to have checked out and have not found anything. BUT IT IS STILL HAPPENNING. Have suggested to have an engineer from the company to ride along. Not happening. The keep closing the case. September of last year we were driving through Richmond, Virginia on our way to Florida and, it went into the DEATH WOBBLE at 65mph. Shook so bad it snapped my front hitch system and could not tow the car and had to be trailer towed to a dealership. There are other reports out there on the web of other people having the same issue. Was told at one point it could be my equipment. After it broke my system last September and almost lost the car, my insurance company paid to have car repaired and installed a NEW Blue Ox system and it did it again. This time at slower speed and I was able to control. Told ALL DEALERSHIPS AND LINCOLN howitzer is happening and steering is not going back to zero after I make a turn or hit a bump. No reaction. One dealership told me I should not be towing that car, but the car is set up to be towed, according to owners manual. Repair documentation is with Lincoln and insurance company, with all reports. Have a date of September of last year because that was the big one, but started August of 2023, March of 2024, August of 2024 2 times. Each time reported to Lincoln and taken to shop. Could have been a serious accident if I didn't control the motorhome and car.
Transmission causes the car to jerk and shudder at speeds below 50 MPH. Lincoln dealer says it is the Torque Converter that is causing the issue. Issue could cause the car to stall or not start. There are no check engine lights lit at this time. This is a known issue by Ford/Lincoln with Technical Service Bulletins describing this issue. The initial incident happened in 2023 with the dealer telling me this was normal for the vehicle. It has become worse with increasing jerking and shuddering at higher speeds. My last trip to the dealer on 8/19/25 resulted in them telling me I need a new torque converter and now the car is out of warranty.
The automated parking assist function malfunctioned. I will attach the video. Lincoln claims that the auto functioned as designed.
The contact owns a 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed during a rainstorm, there was water leaking into the vehicle through the moonroof. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the moonroof drains, and informed the contact that the drains were clogged. The vehicle was repaired in April 2023, but the failure reoccurred in April 2025. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and it was determined that the moonroof drains were clogged. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. While the contact's father was driving approximately 25-40 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. Additionally, the contact stated that the transmission shifted hard, and the vehicle shuddered and jerked abnormally while driving. The contact stated the failure had occurred while her father was driving at a slow speed. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Car consistently jerking as soon as you accelarate. The acceleration takes along time to pick up speed. Can feel the car missing gears or slipping while driving even on the freeway.
The contact owns a 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. The contact stated while sitting in the rear middle seat, the seat belt retracted independently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while attempting to unbuckle the seat belt, the seat belt failed to unlatch as needed. The contact had to cut the seat belt due to the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 36,000.
Leased 2019 Lincoln Nautilus has needed 10 roadside assistance calls and has been in the Lincoln Service for warranty work at least 9 times in the last 6 months for the same issue. The vehicle's battery is being drained when the vehicle is completely shut off. I've had numerous issues when going to start my vehicle for work or personal transportation and the vehicle's battery is drained. As a first responder my vehicle operational dependability is a priority. I've needed numerous jump starts from Lincoln roadside service to get to work. At times I was unavailable to get to work because of the dead battery. I've had the car in Lincoln service for the same issue 9 times with no resolve. My vehicle has been in the service department over 9 times now. I am currently in a loaner car because my vehicle is in the service department. When the problem first started my rear hatch door opened while I was driving the vehicle. Shortly after that the battery was draining when the car was shut off. This is a not only a transportation issue but also a safety issue.
Water has entered a headlight and has caused the turn signal, DRL and headlight functions to fail intermittently. Ford/Lincoln has inspected and acknowledge the defect, and it is covered under warranty. However, they have not and do not admit to having a replacement headlight available. They do have headlight assemblies available for new car production and choose to use the new assemblies for new car production but have not set aside a headlight to honor my warranty claim in over 2 months. This is a significant safety issue for me and my family.
Exhaust smell in cabin (interior) of car Happens when full acceleration when passing or entering Highway A/C on, Outside air Recirculate switch off (inside air Only) Has happen since new on car. Ford/Lincoln dealership has checked for Exhaust leaks, Proper operation on Climate control system, check rear hatch for proper sealing. No issues found. Dealership has verified problem.
