THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT BALL JOINT AND AXLE FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 MAZDA CX-9 AND THE CAR WAS SMELLING LIKE IT WAS BURNING AND THEN IT SOUNDED LIKE A PILE OF ROCKS BEING TOSSED AROUND. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE CAR CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP AND SMOKE CAME FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. I HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD THE TRANSFER CASE WENT OUT AND MESSED UP THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I FOUND OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT MAZDA HAS KNOWN ABOUT FOR SOME TIME AND HAS FAILED TO NOTIFY THE CUSTOMER. THIS PROBLEM HAS APPARENTLY CAUSED VEHICLES TO CATCH FIRE WHILE DRIVING. AFTER CONTACTING MAZDA THEY SAY THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 90,000 MILES BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT HASN'T NOTIFIED THE OWNERS OF THE VEHICLE. MAZDA SAYS IT HASN'T BEEN RECALLED BECAUSE IT ISN'T A SAFETY ISSUE (WHICH I DISAGREE WITH, IT COULD CAUSE GREAT HARM OR DEATH) AND IT HASN'T BEEN REPORTED ENOUGH. MAZDA SAID THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE TRANSFER CASE NOR THE LABOR OR TRANSMISSION. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED SINCE APPARENTLY IT'S HAPPENING IN ALL CX-9 VEHICLES BETWEEN CERTAIN YEARS. IT'S A DEFECTIVE PART, NOTHING I DID AND I AM LEFT TO PAY TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT MAZDA KNOWS IS THEIR FAULT.
2008 CX-9 WITH 110,000 MILES TRANSFER CASE FAILURE WITH PROBABLE DAMAGE TO TRANSMISSION. PROGNOSIS WAS MADE DURING REPAIR OF LEAKING REAR AXEL SEALS WHEN MECHANIC NOTICED "CHUNKS OF METAL" IN THE THE TRANSFER CASE.
REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE CAR THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM HAS ANYONE ELSE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM.I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID SOME KIND OF SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF 700.00 DOLLARS I DONT THINK I SOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF MY POCKET.I TRANSPORT MY GRANDKID AROUND AND IF A SOMETHING HAPPENS THEY WOULD NOT GET OUT

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE DRIVER'S SEAT UNINTENTIONALLY MOVED TOWARDS THE STEERING WHEEL. IT WAS DIFFICULT FOR THE CONTACT TO EXIT THE VEHICLE DUE TO HOW CLOSE THE SEAT MOVED TOWARDS THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED PERIODICALLY. MAZDA OF ORLAND PARK (8910 W 159TH ST, ORLAND PARK, IL 60462, (708) 444-3200) WAS CONTACTED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V066000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) IN 2009. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 144,000.
TAKATA RECALL. I RECEIVED MAZDA'S SAFETY RECALL NOTICE ON 12/12/2016. IN DECEMBER 2016, I TOOK THE RECALL LETTER TO MY LOCAL MAZDA DEALER IN BITBURG, GERMANY. AS OF AUGUST 31, 2017, MAZDA EUROPE IS STILL NOT ABLE TO RECEIVE PARTS TO REPAIR THE CAR. MY LOCAL MAZDA DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO WAIT UNTIL I RECEIVED ANOTHER NOTICE AND THEN RETURN WITH THE CAR. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A SECOND NOTICE AS OF AUGUST 31, 2017.

MY COMPLAINT IS MAZDA REJECTED MY REIMBURSEMENT CLAIM BASED ON THEIR "POLICY" OF HAVING ONLY A MAZDA DEALER PERFORM THE REPAIRS. I DO NOT ACCEPT THE REJECTION. WE TRIED TO SCHEDULE WITH MAZDA. NO CHANCE. THEY ARE TOO BOOKED. MY WIFE IS A SCHOOL TEACHER. WE MUST HAVE THE VEHICLE. A LONG STORY SHORT, ATTACHED ARE (3) ITEMS: THE RECALL NOTICE FROM MAZDA, THE RECEIPT FROM MY EXCELLENT MECHANIC AND THE MAZDA REJECTION LETTER. VEHICLE SUDDENLY DID NOT BRAKE AS EXPECTED. BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD TO PRESS AND UNRESPONSIVE. BRAKES MADE NOISE WHILE DEPRESSED. VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AT THE TIME, AND DID NOT HAVE THE ISSUE EARLIER IN THE DAY.
I HAD TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS BY 73,000 MILES. I WOULD CONSIDER THIS A WHEEL BEARING DEFECT, AS I NEVER HAD TO REPLACE THIS ON ANY OF MY CARS DURING MY 27 YEARS OF DRIVING. MAZDA CX-9 IS BASED ON FORD EDGE AND FORD IS KNOWN FOR BAD WHEEL HUB/BEARINGS AND THIS MAY BE RELATED. SHOULDN'T THIS BE RECALLED? I'M UNHAPPY WITH THIS CAR AS I FEEL THIS REPAIR IS TOO SOON AND NOT CHEAP, $650-700 PER WHEEL. IF THE CAR WAS OVER 100-150K MILES, THEN I WOULD UNDERSTAND ONE WHEEL BEARING REPLACEMENT, BUT TWO WITHIN 73K MILES? READ SOME BLOGS THAT IT'S NOT UNUSUAL TO REPLACE ALL FOUR WHEEL BEARINGS ON THIS CAR UNDER 100K MILES. PLEASE ADVISE, AS THIS ISN'T SAFE FOR MOMS DRIVING WITH YOUNG CHILDREN LIKE MY WIFE, LET ALONE OTHERS. THIS CAR SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED, RECALLED ASAP AND REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE OR REFUNDED. WE BOUGHT OUR CAR ON A DEALER IN MESA, IT WAS STATIONARY. AFTER WE BOUGHT IT WE NOTICED LOCKS MOVING ON THEIR OWN WINDOWS ROLLING DOWN SO DID THE MOON ROOF. WHEN WE TURN OFF THE ENGINE THE A/C TURNS ON EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. THE CAR LOCKS ITSELF LEAVING US OUTSIDE. WE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRES THEY KEEP LOOSING UP MAKING THE CAR VIBRATE AND MAKING SOUNDS LIKE BANGING ON THE TIRES

BRAKE HISSING FROM PEDAL AREA AND BRAKES ARE VERY HARD TO PRESS. DIFFICULT TO STOP VEHICLE WITHOUT APPLYING LOTS OF PEDAL FORCE UNTIL A CERTAIN POINT WHERE BOOSTER STARTS WORKING AND VEHICLE STOPS QUICKLY. DANGEROUS AT FIRST BECAUSE VEHICLE DOESN'T SEEM TO STOP WITHOUT A GREAT DEAL OF PEDAL FORCE THEN SUDDENLY STOPS QUICKLY AFTER MORE PEDAL TRAVEL. ALSO, ENGINE RUNS ROUGH WHEN HISSING SOUND IS HEARD- PROBABLY DUE TO LOSS OF VACUUM. PROBLEM IS AT ALL SPEEDS. IT TAKES A GREAT DEAL OF DISTANCE TO STOP AT HIGHER SPEEDS FOR EMERGENCY BRAKING (VERY DANGEROUS).

I CONTACTED THE DEALER CLOSE TO MY RESIDENT AS PRESCRIBED ON THE RECALL NOTICE. THEY SAID THEY WILL GET BACK WITH ME AS SOON AS THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. IT HAS BEEN MORE THAN 3 MONTHS AND I HAVE NOT GOT ANY RESPONSE FROM THE DEALER. I WILL BE VERY GRATEFUL TO GET A FOLLOW UP TO SEE THAT THIS MY CAR IS FIXED. THANKS VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE.

I HAD TO REPLACE MY TIRES BECAUSE OF THE BALL JOINTS AND CAUSING MY WHEEL TO COME OFF. MY BREAKS SOUNDS HORRIBLE EVEN AFTER I HAD THEM SERVICED IF IT RAINS REALLY BAD I GET THIS CRANKING NOISE I HAVE A WEIRD SOUND TO MY VEHICLE RIGHT NOW COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND NOT SURE WHAT'S THE PROBLEM. ON TUESDAY MAY 31, 2016 I TOOK MY MAZDA CX9 TO MAZDA DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECALL, REFERENCE ##15V451000. I TOLD THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT I WAS GLAD TO BE BRINGING THE CAR IN AS IT WAS MAKING NOISES IN THE DRIVER FRONT AND THAT THE STEERING SEEMED LOOSE. I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS INSPECTED, DID NOT REQUIRE THE RECALL AND THAT ALL SUSPENSION PARTS WERE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. ON SUNDAY, JUNE 5, 2016 WHILE ENTERING THE HIGHWAY WHILE DRIVING MY 2 CHILDREN AND ELDERLY MOTHER, MY BALL JOINT AND LOWER CONTROL ARM BROKE CAUSING AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY ON RAMP. I WAS INFORMED BY POLICE THAT I WAS LUCKY THIS HAD NOT OCCURRED MOMENTS LATER (AT HIGH SPEED) AS IT WAS LIKELY TO HAVE CAUSED A SEVERE OR POSSIBLY FATAL ACCIDENT. THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVE ABLE AND REQUIRED ME TOW MY VEHICLE AND FIND ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION.

AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER (LADD HANFORD OF LABADON, PA) AND THE MANUFACTURER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED FOR THE RECALL REMEDY WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE PROVIDED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
VEHICLE IS AWD. IN MAY 2016, TCS & ABS DASH LIGHTS CAME ON AS WELL AS THE DEPICTION OF A VEHICLE SKIDDING. BROUGHT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID HE WAS GETTING FAULT CODES BUT COULD NOT DIAGNOSE. SUGGESTED WE GO TO THE DEALER. WENT TO LOCAL MAZDA DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT BOTH THE TRANSFER CASE AND TRANSMISSION GEARS WERE STRIPPED, THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOW OPERATING IN 2 WHEEL DRIVE AND THAT THE ABS WAS NOT FUNCTIONING BECAUSE OF THESE ISSUES. DEALER QUOTED $8,136 TO FIX. WE ASSUMED THERE MUST BE SOME RECALL ON THIS ISSUE BUT COULD NOT FIND ONE. WE THEN BROUGHT TO A LOCAL TRANSMISSION EXPERT WHO OPENED IT UP AND DESCRIBED SAME PROBLEM. STRIPPED GEARS ON BOTH TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER CASE. HE CALLED DEALERSHIP PARTS DEPT. AND SAID THEY HAD SEVERAL OF THE MAJOR PARTS HE NEEDED TO REPAIR. HE THOUGHT WAS A SIGN THAT DEALER WAS SEEING MANY OF THESE SAME PROBLEMS AS THESE WERE NOT PARTS A DEALER WOULD TYPICALLY STOCK. I DISCOVERED MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON LINE. SOME NOTED MAZDA RECALLED 2010 AND NEWER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. ALSO SAID IT MAY BE A ONBOARD COMPUTER ISSUE THAT CAUSED THE RAPID WEAR OF THE TRANSFER CASE AND TRANSMISSION. VERY CONCERNED THAT MAZDA IS PUTTING THIS ON THE CONSUMER WHEN IT SEEMS VERY LIKELY TO BE SOME DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT.

AS A RESULT, THE TIRES FAILED TO FUNCTION CORRECTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, MINUTES LATER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PEDAL SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WHILE DRIVING AND COMING TO A STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT REAL HARD AND CAR WOULD NOT STOP APPROPRIATELY. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES, CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID IS FULL AS WELL AS CHANGED BRAKES THEMSELVES..PROBLEM STILL THERE AND PROGRESSIVELY WORSE, UN DRIVABLE BECAUSE OF COMPROMISED BRAKING. THERE IS ONLY 75K MILES ON THIS AUTOMOBILE. HAVING THE CAR TOWED TO LOCAL DEALER, WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT MAZDA HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR BRAKING SYSTEM, WHICH WOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM AS WELL AS REIMBURSEMENT FOR TOWING AND EXPENSES. THIS DEFECT IS VERY DANGEROUSE, THERE WAS NO WARNING, NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH, I AM VERY FORTUNATE THAT THIS WAS CAUGHT BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED.
WHEN DRIVING UNDER 20 MPH ENTERING INTO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, HEARD A LOUD "POP" - THEN THE FRONT LEFT TIRE SUSPENSION 'POPPED OFF' THE TIRE, CAUSING THE CAR TO LOSE CONTROL AND HIT THE CURB WITH THE RIGHT TIRE. IT APPEARS THAT THE SUSPENSION JUST "POPPED OFF" THE JOINT CAUSING THE TIRE TO BECOME 'DISLODGED' FROM THE VEHICLE - AND SENT THE CAR INTO THE CURB - SEE PICTURES. NO POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN AS IT DID NOT INVOLVE PERSONAL INJURY NOR ANOTHER VEHICLE. UPON INVESTIGATION ON THE WEB, IT APPEARS THAT NHTSA HAS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION INTO SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH 2007/2008 MAZDA CX-9S (SEE ACTION NUMBER: PE15022) - WHICH IS WHY I AM WRITING TO YOU NOW.
I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN ON A PARKING LOT WHEN I HEARD A LOUD CRUNCH COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND FULLY LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR. WHEN I CAME OUTSIDE TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED I SAW THAT BALL JOINT ON MY FRONT LEFT (DRIVER SIDE) BROKE, THE WHEEL WITH PART OF THE AXEL FULLY OUT, AND THAT BREAK FLUID WAS SPOILED ALL OVER. IMAGINE THIS HAPPENING ON THE FIGHTER WHEN I WAS DRIVING WITH TWO OF MY YOUNG KIDS!!
MASTER CYLINDER LEAK CAUSING THE BRAKE BOOSTER TO GO OUT AS WELL. SUSPENSION WEAK AND RUSTY. MAZDA REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM.
I HAVE A 2008 MAZDA CX-9 WITH 139,000 MILES ON IT. THE TRANSFER CASE HAS DESTROYED THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION WAS COMPROMISED BY THE FAULTY TRANSFER CASE OVER A PERIOD TIME. I'VE DONE EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ON THIS AND THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A KNOWN ISSUE THAT THE TRANSFER CASE IS RUINING THESE TRANSMISSIONS. I'VE ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THE MAZDA DEALERSHIPS IN MY AREA ARE SELLING UPWARDS OF 4 TRANSFER CASES PER WEEK AND OFTEN OUT OF STOCK DUE TO THIS REPLACEMENT OF THE FAULTY TRANSFER CASE COMING OUT OF THE FACTORY. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY MAZDA HASN'T SENT OUT A BULLETIN TO IT'S VALUED CUSTOMERS REGARDING THIS. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE LACK OF TRANSPARENCY ON THIS IS DUE TO THE LARGE FINANCIAL IMPACT IT MAY HAVE. I AM CONTACTING YOU TO REQUEST THAT YOU TAKE THIS ISSUE TO WHOMEVER CAN HELP RESOLVE MY CASE AND PROVIDE SIGNIFICANT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TOWARDS THE REPLACEMENT OF MY TRANSMISSION AND FAULTY TRANSFER CASE. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT MAZDA APPARENTLY HAS A "SOFTWARE UPDATE" THAT WOULD FIX THIS ISSUE - BUT I FIND IT IMPOSSIBLE TO BELIEVE AS I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATION OF THIS BEING AN ISSUE OR ANY SOFTWARE UPDATE TO FIX THIS FAULTY TRANSFER CASE. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT A SOFTWARE UPGRADE IS GOING TO FIX A MECHANICAL ISSUE AND CANNOT FIND ANY EVIDENCE OF THIS "SOFTWARE" UPDATE BEING LEGITIMATE. MAZDA SUPPOSEDLY MAKES A QUALITY PRODUCT AND SUPPOSEDLY CARES ABOUT CUSTOMER LOYALTY AND SERVICE. I WOULD SAY THAT NOT TELLING YOUR CUSTOMERS ABOUT A FAULTY PART (KNOW ISSUE ON FACTORY TRANSFER CASE) THAT DESTROYS THE TRANSMISSION AND CAUSES SIGNIFICANT FINANCIAL HARDSHIP IS NOT FAIR OR REASONABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.
FRONT AXLE FELL OFF THE CAR. COULD HEAR STRANGE NOISE WHEN BACKING UP. PUT IN PARK IN DRIVEWAY AND THE CAR STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARDS. PULLED OVER TO SIDEWALK AND APPLIED EMERGENCY BRAKE. CALLED TOW TRUCK AND AXLE WAS FOUND UNDER THE CAR.
I AM REPORTING TWO INCIDENTS OF ENGINE REVVING THAT OCCURRED WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. IN THE FIRST INCIDENT (SEP 2015), I STARTED THE CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY. AFTER A COUPLE SECONDS, THE ENGINE STARTED REVVING REALLY FAST EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. I REMAINED IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. AFTER RE-STARTING THE CAR, EVERYTHING BEHAVED NORMALLY. IN THE SECOND INCIDENT (DEC 6, 2015), I STARTED THE CAR, PUT IT IN REVERSE, AND WAS BACKING UP IN A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT. THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCCELERATED BACKWARD WITH THE ENGINE REVVING. I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE HARD, AND THEN CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. THE REVVING STOPPED AND THE CAR DROVE NORMALLY AFTER THAT. I FELT LUCKY TO HAVE STOPPED THE CAR, HOWEVER, AND IT WENT BACKWARDS FURTHER AND FASTER THAN WANTED. I CHECKED THE FLOOR MATS AND BRAKE/ACCELERATOR AREA FOR ANY OBJECTS, AND EVERYTHING WAS IN THE CORRECT PLACE. I HAVE NOT YET HAD THE CAR EVALUATED BY A MECHANIC OR DEALERSHIP, BUT NOW PLAN TO DO THAT SOON.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED.THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 92,000.
WHILE TAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN IN THE PARKING LOT OF LOGAN AIRPORT, AND TRAVELLING ABOUT 5-10 MPH, MY CAR MADE A LOUD NOISE AND CAME TO A SUDDEN AND ABRUPT HALT. I STEPPED OUT OF THE CAR AND DISCOVERED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE HAD DISCONNECTED FROM THE STEERING ARM. THE CAR WAS IMMOBILIZED, AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO MOVE IT OUT OF THE WAY OF OTHER TRAFFIC IN THE AIRPORT PARKING LOT, CAUSING CHAOS IN THE PARKING LOT AND CAUSING THEM TO TEMPORARILY SHUT DOWN AN ENTIRE FLOOR OF THE PARKING LOT WHILE THEY STRUGGLED TO TOW THE CAR OUT OF THE WAY. THE CAR WAS SUBSEQUENTLY TOWED TO A MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND THE TIRE ARMS AND BALL JOINTS WERE REPAIRED PURSUANT TO A RECALL (8515G). THE FRONT TIRES WERE ALSO UNEVENLY WORN AND REPLACED, VERY LIKELY FROM THE BALL JOINT / STEERING ARM ISSUE, AND COST $481.55. MAZDA WOULD NOT REIMBURSE FOR THE TIRES BECAUSE I COULD NOT LOCATE RECEIPTS TO PROVE I HAD ROTATED THE TIRES AT THE APPROPRIATE INTERVALS, SPECIFICALLY STATING "OUR DEALER WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM IF THE WEARING OF THE TIRES WERE DUE TO THE RECALL ITEM AS THERE WAS NO SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION INDICATING THE PROPER MAINTENANCE ON THE TIRES". I DO NOT BELIEVE MOST PEOPLE KEEP RECORDS OF EVERY OIL CHANGE / TIRE ROTATION THEY HAVE DONE, BUT THE WEAR WAS VERY CONSISTENT WITH WHAT WOULD BE EXPECTED FOR BALL JOINT ISSUES. FURTHERMORE THE CAR HAD BEEN INSPECTED BY THE STATE OF MASSACHUSETTS IN THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER, AND NO UNEVEN WEAR WAS FOUND AT THAT TIME, GIVING FURTHER INDICATION THAT THE UNEVEN WEAR WAS LINKED TO THE BALL JOINT / TIRE ROD ISSUE. FORTUNATELY THIS DID NOT OCCUR ONE DAY EARLIER WHILE TOWING A BOAT ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY DISABLED SON, THIS COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN A MULTI FATALITY ACCIDENT. I HAVE LITERALLY HAD NIGHTMARES OVER THIS POSSIBILITY. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
TRANSFER CASE FAILURE WHICH CAN CAUSE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. FOUND DURING RECENT INSPECTION. LOOKS THE PROBLEM IS IN DESIGN. MAZDA RECALLED THE TRANSFER CASE FROM 2010 MODEL AND LATER BUT NOT BEFORE. SINCE THE SAME PART IS USED IN EARLIER MODELS REQUESTING RECALL ON EARLIER MODELS TOO.

I THOUGHT I'D BLOWN A TIRE BUT GOT OUT AND SAW THE ENTIRE WHEEL WAS DISCONNECTED - THE SUSPENSION RUINED. AS I WAS TURNING RIGHT TO EXIT A PARKING LOT THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE FROM THE FRONT OF MY 2008 MAZDA CX-9 AND I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL OR MOVE THE VEHICLE FORWARD. I EXITED THE VEHICLE TO SEE WHAT MAY HAVE CAUSED IT AND OBSERVED THAT MY FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WAS MISALIGNED. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I DISCOVERED METAL SHAVINGS AND A LARGE METAL OBJECT HANGING DOWN FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE, APPEARING TO BLOCK THE TIRE RIM. A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TRANSPORTED TO A MECHANIC, WHERE THEY DETERMINED THE TWO LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.

DEFECT IN TRANSFER CASE.
A VERY FRIGHTENING INCIDENT OCCURRED SATURDAY AUGUST 29, 2015 APPROX 6:45 P.M. AFTER A ROUND TRIP TRAVEL ON THE HIGHWAY FOR APPROX 80 MILES. I DROVE JUST OVER A MILE OFF THE HIGHWAY EXIT, CAME TO A STOP SIGN LIGHT THEN PROCEEDED WITH A RIGHT TURN. SUDDENLY WITHOUT ANY PREVIOUS WARNING THE CAR MADE A JERKING/SKIDDING TYPE MOVEMENT, SOMETHING SEEMED TO DROP OUT OF THE FRONT END AND THE CAR CAME ABRUPTLY TO A STOP. SEVERAL PEOPLE PULLED OVER TO SEE IF I AND MY ONE MONTH OLD GRANDDAUGHTER WERE OK AS I WAS AT A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION. A BYSTANDER TOLD ME THAT THE DRIVERS FRONT TIRE WAS FACING OUT TO THE LEFT OF THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE UNDER THE CAR AS WELL. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE BALL JOINT SEPARATED, THE SHAFT OR AXLE MAY HAVE BROKEN, AND THERE MAY BE OTHER SEVERE DAMAGE AS THERE WAS ALSO OIL ON THE ROAD. MY TIRE WAS AS MENTIONED. IT IS ALSO NOTED THAT I AM UNABLE TO COMPLETELY OPEN MY DRIVERS DOOR DOOR NOW POSSIBLY DUE TO BODY MISALIGNMENT NOW. I HAVE PICTURES OF ANY VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE CAR. I AM APPALLED AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM THAT MAZDA WILL BE CONDUCTING A RECALL IN SEPTEMBER BUT HAS YET TO SEND OUT NOTICES TO CUSTOMERS. IN FACT A SECOND NOTICE WILL EVENTUALLY COME OUT WHEN PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. HAD I NOT JUST COME OFF THE HIGHWAY MY CAR WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY FLIPPED OVER AND MY GRANDDAUGHTER AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THIS IS 1000% UNACCEPTABLE. I WANT ACTION NOW. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE EXTENT OF DAMAGE IS TO THE CAR, NOR DO I WANT THE CAR REPAIRED, INSTEAD I WANT MAZDA TO REPLACE IT! NOT ONLY I HAVE EXPERIENCED MUCH ANXIETY FROM THIS I AM ALSO INCURRING TOW CHARGES, STORAGE CHARGES AND RENTAL CAR CHARGES. I WAS ADVISED TO HAVE AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC LOOK AT THE VEHICLE BEFORE SENDING TO MAZDA BUT THAT WOULD ENTAIL ANOTHER TOW CHARGE AND MECHANIC FEE. NONE OF WHICH I CAN AFFORD. MAZDA MUST TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION.
THIS IS A 2008 CX-9 GRAND TOURING AWD THAT WAS GOING NORTHBOUND ON INDIANA HIGHWAY 31 AND THEN MADE A U-TURN TO GO SOUTHBOUND. AS THE CAR SPEED GOT UP TO 35MPH GOING SOUTHBOUND, THERE WAS A SUDDEN JERK AND LOUD NOISE AND IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND FELT LIKE IT WAS DRAGGING ON SOMETHING. THE CAR BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER BUT WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. LUCKILY THERE WASN'T ANY OTHER CARS OR TRAFFIC AROUND US AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT. WHEN I GOT OUT TO INSPECT THE CAR, I NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WAS TURNED OUTWARD AT A 90 DEG ANGLE AND THE LOWER BALL JOINT WAS COMPLETELY DETACHED. THE CAR WAS NO LONGER DRIVABLE AND HAD TO BE TOWED.
