BRAKES ARE MAKING A HISSING SOUND WHEN YOU PRESS DOWN. THE BRAKES ARE HARD TO PUSH AND THE VEHICLE IS NOT STOPPING PROPERLY.
MY CAR IS HAVING A RECALL REPAIRED FOR SOME FRONT END ISSUE. IN SEPT 2015 I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR INSPECTION, AND ALL 4 TIRES HAD GREAT TREAD ON THEM. MAZDA DIDN'T HAVE PARTS IN SEPTEMBER TO FIX MY CAR. BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 2015, AND APRIL 2016 MY DRIVERS SIDE FRONT TIRE IS BALD ON THE OUTSIDE TO THE POINT IT'S ALMOST UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IT IS THE ONLY TIRE THAT IS LIKE THIS.. ALL 4 TIRES WERE REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO. PAUL MILLER MAZDA CALLED ME AND INFORMED ME I NEEDED NEW TIRES AND AN ALIGNMENT AND I INFORMED THEM IT HAD TO BE RELATED TO THE RECALL DUE TO ONLY THAT TIRE, AND THE FACT THAT THE TREAD WAS THE SAME AS THE OTHER TIRES IN SEPTEMBER. WE COULD FEEL THE FRONT END ISSUES IN THE VEHICLE FOR 7 MONTHS WAITING ON THE PARTS. I AM NOW STUCK HAVING TO BUY A NEW TIRE AND PAY FOR AN ALIGNMENT OUT OF MY OWN POCKET BECAUSE IT OOK THEM 7 MONTHS TO GET PARTS IN TO FIX MY MAZDA.
SAME ISSUE AS EVERYONE ELSE HISSING WHEN BRAKES ARE COMPRESSED -OR CAR IS STOPPED AND BAD OR LAGGING IN BRAKING. MY BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR KEPT SLOWLY TRYING TO ROLL. I HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES. OR PUT THE CAR IN PARK. WHEN I LET THE BRAKES GO NO HISSING
MY POWER TRAIN WAS SUPPOSED TO BE COVERED TO 100,000 MILES. WHEN THE TRANFER CASE HAD TO BE REPLACED AS PER WARNING IT HAPPENED AT 93000 ONSTEAD OF 90000 BUT I WAS TOLD THAT NOT ONLY EAS I NOT COVERED BUT THAT THE SUPPOSED WARRANTY COVERED TO 100000 MILES WAS NOT VALID EITHER BECAUSE THE CAR WASN'T CLASSIFIED AT MAZDA AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED CAR AND THE ONLY REASON I BOUGHT THE CAR WAS ALTHOUGH THE MILEAGE WAS HIGH,APPROXIMATELY 54,300 MILES FOR A 2 YR.OLD CAR I PURCHASED IT BECAUSE WITH IT SUPPOSEDLY BEING PRE-OWNED CAR, THE POWER TRAIN WAS TO BE WARRANTEED TO 100000 MILES SO PICTURE MY SHOCK WHRN I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS NOT CONSIDERED TO BE PRE-OWNED AND THAT THE POWER TRSIN WOULDN'T BE COVERED. I MUST TAKE IT UP WITH THE DEALER. SO I WAS STICK WITH THE PAYMENT OF THE REPLACEMENT OF A PART THAT WAS LISTED FOR RECALL. SO FOR 2000 MILES PAST ORIGINAL RECALL MILEAGE AND BECAUSE MAZDA HAD NO RECORD OF MY CAR BEING PRE-OWNED I HAD TO PAY FOR EVERYTHING MYSELF. IT LOOKED LIKE A MONSTER HAD TAKEN A BITE OF THE PART IN QUESTION. I STILL HAVE PART CAUSE I 'M STILL TRYING TO GET MY MONEY BACK TO NO AVAIL#!!! IT WAS STATIONARY WHEN THE DEFECT BECAME EVIDENT.
BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY OR CONSISTENTLY. SOMETIMES HAVE TO PRESS TOO HARD ON BRAKES AND OTHER TIMES IT WORKS FINE. ALSO, BRAKES ARE MAKING A HISSING SOUND LIKE AIR COMING OUT OF TIRE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 MAZDA CX-9. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AS THE WARNING INDICATORS FLASHED AND THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 66,727. UPDATED 06/15/16*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED SHE ACCELERATED FROM A STOP LIGHT, AS SHE TURNED THE CORNER. SHE THEN REALIZED, SHE COULD NOT BRAKE, OR STEER THE VEHICLE. SHE HIT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. THE DEALER BELIEVED IT WAS A VACUUM PROBLEM AS SHE BRAKED SLIGHTLY WHEN SHE TURNED THE CORNED. UPDATED 06/16/16.*JB
SEVERAL TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, AND THE DRIVER ATTEMPTS TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL SEEMS UNRESPONSIVE. DURING THESE INCIDENTS, THE BRAKE PEDAL IS VERY HARD TO APPLY, NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. THANKFULLY WHEN THIS TRANSPIRED (5-10 TIMES OVER THE LAST 2-3 WEEKS), WE WERE TRAVELING RELATIVELY SLOWLY. AFTER EXERTING MUCH MORE THAN NORMAL FORCE, THE BRAKE PEDAL SEEMS TO DEPRESS AND HELP BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP, ALTHOUGH NOT AT THE NORMAL RATE OF BRAKING. ADDITIONALLY, DURING ONE OF THESE INCIDENTS, WHICH HAPPENED TODAY, THE BRAKES REMAINED ENGAGED, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE, EVEN AFTER SHIFTING TO PARK, AND TURNING OFF THE ENGINE. EVENTUALLY, AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE A SECOND TIME AND WAITING AWHILE, THE BRAKES RELEASED. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS, AND TRYING TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT. MOST OF THE OTHER INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED DURING CITY DRIVING, BUT THEY HAVE ALSO OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AS WELL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT HAVE ADEQUATE POWER TO GO UP OR DOWN HILLS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE OF THE VEHICLE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000. ....UPDATED 03-31-16 *BF *CN
HISSING SOUND WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, BRAKE FEELS STIFF. HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TOMORROW (THEY SAID IT SHOULD BE OK TO DRIVE UNTIL THEN), SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILING.
I HAVE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED TROUBLE WITH MY BRAKES. IT HAS BEEN VERY DIFFICULT TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP NO MATTER WHAT MY SPEED IS. IT FEELS LIKE I HAVE TO PUSH VERY HARD TO GET THE BRAKES TO ENGAGE. ALSO, I HEAR A HISSING NOISE, LIKE AIR COMING OUT OF THE TIRES WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. NO WARNING LIGHTS HAVE COME ON. I TOOK THE CAR INTO JUST BRAKES LAST NIGHT AND AM WAITING FOR AN ASSESSMENT. THE MECHANIC SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER BOOSTERS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 MAZDA CX-9. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V451000 (SUSPENSION); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
WHEN BREAKING I HEAR A HISSING NOISE AND FOUND OUT MY BREAK BOASTER WAS GOING BAD.
WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKES AT ANY SPEED THERE WAS A HISSING SOUND AND THE BRAKES WERE HARD TO PRESS. REGARDLESS OF THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE I APPLIED TO THE BRAKES THEY DID NOT REACT AND IT TOOK THE VEHICLE LONGER TO SLOW DOWN EVEN AT VERY LOW SPEEDS (5-10 MPH) OR FASTER. THIS CAME ON SUDDENLY AND CAUSED ME TO BRING THE VEHICLE INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF THE THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT. THE MAZDA TECHNICIAN INSPECTED THE VEHICLES AND COMPLETED A DIAGNOSTICS OF THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER HAVE FAILED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED.
THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED AND IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO BACK THE CAR OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. AFTER MOVING THE CAR BACK AND FORTH AND SLIGHTLY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL THE POWER ASSIST CAME BACK. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE A TURN WITHOUT THE POWER ASSIST. THIS PROBLEM PERSISTS AND HAPPENS AT LOW SPEED OR WHEN I AM STOPPED AND TRYING TO MAKE A TURN. AS LONG AS I AM MOVING THE POWER ASSIST SEEMS TO WORK.
ON 24 JULY 2015, WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, THE DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME EXECUTED AN EMERGENCY BRAKING TO AVOID A COLLISION WHICH CAUSED ME TO DO THE SAME. FROM THE MOMENT I TRIED TO ACTUATE THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT FELT AS IF THE PEDAL WAS IN THE FLOOR AND IMMOVABLE. LITTLE, IF ANY, BRAKE FORCE WAS APPLIED AND REQUIRED BOTH FEET WITH ALL THE POWER OF MY LEGS TO GET EVEN A SMALL AMOUNT OF BRAKING. I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY DIVE INTO THE MEDIAN AT SPEEDS OF 60-65 MPH TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THIS CAUSED TWO TIRES TO HAVE TO BE REPLACED. WHEN I LEFT MY PARKING GARAGE AND ALL THE WAY TO THE FREEWAY, BRAKING WAS NORMAL. NO DASH LIGHTS WERE ACTIVE NOR ARE THEY NOW. THE ISSUE PERSISTS NOW AND DRIVING THE VEHICLE IS NOT AN OPTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE THEFT SYSTEM HAD TAKEN OVER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE ABOUT THE PART THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 MAZDA CX-9. ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED HEAD ON INTO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS IDLING. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND BOTH FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELTS DID NOT RETRACT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTOBODY SHOP FOR REPAIR; HOWEVER, A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS NOT PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,585.
BRAKE PEDAL IS VERY HARD TO PUSH IN. TRIED TO STOP AT A LIGHT AND THE BRAKES WOULDN'T STOP THE CAR, LUCKILY THERE WAS'T SOMEONE IN FRONT OF ME. BRAKES FEEL LIKE I AM PUSHING AGAINST A WALL, ALSO CAN HEAR A HISSING OR LEAKING SOUND WHEN I TRY TO PUSH THE BRAKES.
VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW OR STOP, HAD TO PUSH PEDAL HARD ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR TO GET IT SLOWED. REALLY THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. TOOK VEHICLE INTO SHOP ON 6/5/2015 AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE POWER BRAKE ASSIST MODULE WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. OWNER OF SHOP SAID WE WERE LUCKY TO NOT HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. COME ON MAZDA YOU ARE AWARE OF THIS SITUATION.
I HAD 3 CHILDREN IN CAR SEATS, MYSELF AND MY OLDEST SON IN OUR CX9. I CRESTED A HILL AND STARTED DOWN THE OTHER SIDE AND I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AND THEY WERE HARD AND WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO STOP. I ALMOST HIT THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME. HE WAS THANKFULLY WATCHING HIS MIRROR AND RAN A RED LIGHT TO GET OUT OF THE WAY SO I DIDN'T HIT HIM. AFTER STANDING ON THE BRAKES FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE A LIFE TIME THEY FINALLY ENGAGED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION AND HISSED WITH A LOUD SQUEALING NOISE. I REMOVED MYSELF FROM THE INTERSECTION AND AT 5 MILES PER HOUR WENT TO THE NEAREST MECHANIC. I WAS TOLD TO CALL MAZDA BECAUSE THE POWER ASSIST BRAKING SYSTEM HAD FAILED. I CALLED MAZDA AND THEY TOLD ME NOT DRIVE IT AS IT WAS UNSAFE. THEY WOULD HAVE IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP IS DOLAN MAZDA KIA IN RENO NEVADA. I WAS INFORMED BY STEVE TO LOOK AT IT IN THE SHOP I WAS LOOKING AT $125. AND THAT IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE MY CX9 HAS OVER A 100K MLS. AND THE WARRANTY RAN OUT AT 90K. THE BRAKES FAILED UNEXPECTEDLY WITH NO WARNING. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE FROM MAZDA NOR THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM. I SEE THAT THE NHTSA HAS CLOSED IT'S INVESTIGATION WITH NO RECALL OR THAT MAZDA CUSTOMERS WERE INFORMED. MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR EVEN KILLED.

BRAKE BOOSTER GOES OUT CAUSING BRAKES TO UNEXPECTEDLY MALFUNCTION AND NOT STOP THE CAR IN A TIMELY MANNER. BRAKES BECOME HARD TO PRESS, SOUND OF HISSING AIR FROM UNDER DASHBOARD, BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR AND STILL DID NOT STOP THE CAR IN A SAFE MANNER. NO WARNING LIGHTS ALERTED TO THIS PROBLEM PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. *TR
THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND TO TYPICAL PRESSURE REQUIRED TO STOP... WHEN I PUSHED HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IT FELT LIKE THE BRAKES WERE STARTING TO ENGAGE, HOWEVER I COULD NOT GET THEM TO FULLY ENGAGE AND STOP IN TIME TO AVOID REAR ENDING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I TOOK EVASIVE ACTION AND JUMPED THE CURB AND DIRECTED THE VEHICLE AT BANK OF NEWSPAPER STANDS IN ORDER TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE COMING TO A STOP AT 10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT SQUISHY. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD ALMOST TRAVEL TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE FEELING WAS ALSO PRESENT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT. THREE MONTHS LATER, THE CONTACT HEARD AN AIR NOISE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE BEING APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
I JUST BOUGHT AN 2011 CX-9 MAZDA FEW WEEKS AGO. WHEN I WAS PARKING I NOTICED THAT EVERY TIME I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE IT MAKE A SOUND VERY HARD, AND SOMETIMES WHEN PUTTING IT IN REVERSE. IT MAY BE SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSFER CASE. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING ON 2ND ANOTHER WEIRD SOUND. I AM TAKING THE CAR TO THE NEAR DEALER IF THE PROBLEM CONTINUE. *TR
TRAVELING WITH FAMILY ON I95 STARTED SMELLING A BURNING ODOR. LATER DEVELOPED A DISTINCT VIBRATION AND GRINDING SOUND. GOT IT HOME NOW NON USABLE. VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED AT MY SHOP , A LOSS DUE TO HURRICANE SANDY, AND AS SUCH BRANDED. FAULKNER MAZDA AND MAZDA CORPORATION BOTH DENIED ANY WARRANTY CLAIM DUE TO TITLE BRANDING EVEN THOUGH BOTH ADMITTED IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE , ALTHOUGH THE SERVICE DEPT AT FAULKNER DID ADD "THAT ANYTHING COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT". I AM JUST LUCKY THAT IT DIDN'T GRENADE WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE AT SPEED WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR. CORPORATE MAZDA ADVISED ME TO SAVE MY RECEIPTS IN CASE THEY ISSUE A RECALL IN THE FUTURE. WILL NOT RECOMMEND MAZDA TO ANYONE IN THE FUTURE. *TR
THE MAZDA 2011 CX-9 CROSSOVER SUV SEEMS TO HAVE A DEFECT IN THE POWER TRANSFER UNIT (PTU). MAZDA NORTH AMERICAN OPERATIONS ISSUED A LETTER TO MAZDA OWNERS INFORMING ABOUT A SPECIAL SERVICE PROGRAM TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THE REPAIR OF THE POWER TRANSFER UNIT (PTU) ON "CERTAIN 2010-2011 CX-9 ALL-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES PRODUCED FROM JULY 28, 2009 THROUGH DECEMBER 2, 2013." I QUOTE THE LETTER. ON MARCH 18, 2015, I BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE A PROBLEM WHEREBY MY 2011 CX-9 MADE A GRINDING AND SNAPPING SOUND WHEN IN REVERSE MODE. THIS BEHAVIOR WAS FOLLOWED BY A PUNGENT ODOR IN THE CABIN. I CONTACTED THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND TRIED TO GET AN IMMEDIATE APPOINTMENT TO EXAMINE THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT ACCOMMODATE ME NOR EXPRESSED ANY AWARENESS OF THE SYMPTOMS. YET, THE LETTER WAS PUBLISHED SINCE LAST YEAR. I CONTACTED A LOCAL MECHANIC AND HAD THEM INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN THE LETTER FROM MAZDA. IN FACT, THE MECHANIC IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH MAZDA AND LINCOLN BRAND VEHICLES. CURRENTLY, I AM HAVING TROUBLE GETTING IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE FROM THE DEALERSHIP OR MAZDA NORTH AMERICAN OPERATIONS. I CALLED SEVERAL TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE UNRESPONSIVE. I NOTICED A HISSING NOISE WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT GOES AWAY WHEN I LET OFF THE BRAKE. I HAVEN'T NOTICED A DIFFERENCE IN THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT I WILL BE PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION TO IT. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED ASAP. I HAVE 2 KIDS THAT RIDE IN THIS CAR. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TOMORROW. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THEY HEARD ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT HAVEN'T HAD A REPAIR LIKE THIS YET. I WILL UPDATE WHAT I FIND OUT. *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND HAPPENED TO MY MAZDA CX9, 2011. THE BRAKE STARTED TO HAVE HISSING SOUNDS WHILE STEPPING ON BRAKE. THE BRAKE PEDAL IS HARDER THAN USUAL TO DEPRESS. THE BRAKE FUNCTIONS HAS BEEN REDUCED AROUND 30~50% LESS THAN NORMAL. THIS HAS PUT DERIVING SAFETY IN JEOPARDIZED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME MY CX9'S BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE. THE FIRST TIME IS IN YEAR 2012. I WORKED WITH MAZDA TO HAVE BRAKE BOOSTER REPLACED. HOWEVER, DEALER SEEMED NOT REALIZED THERE IS A WARRANTY EXTENDED PROGRAM FROM MAZDA --- MAZDA SPECIAL SERVICE PROGRAM -93 (SSP93). THIS IS OFFICIAL RECORDED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE14005. DEALER TRIED CONTACTING MAZDA FOR THIS PROGRAM. BUT MAZDA KEPT NOT RESPONDING, IT HAS BEEN TWO WEEKS BUT STILL NOT MESSAGE BACK FROM THEM. I PAID THE REPAIRMEN OF THE DEFECTIVE BRAKE BOOSTER (PARTS & LABOR) FROM MY OWN PACKET AT THIS POINT. DESPITE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS FOR JEOPARDIZING DRIVING SAFETY, MY COMPLAINTS TO MAZDA IS ALSO FOR THEIR NON-RESPONSIVE TO CUSTOMER'S WARRANTY PROGRAM WHICH THEY HAVE MADE.
I ACTUALLY NOTICED WHEN I STARTED MY VEHICLE UP AND PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT SEEMED TO SLOWLY SINK ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND MADE A HISSING NOISE. THE NOISE ONLY STOPPED WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL. AS I WAS DRIVING, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAD DRAMATICALLY REDUCED STOPPING PERFORMANCE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE. I'VE GONE THROUGH SEVERAL STOP SIGNS AND HAVE ALMOST REAR ENDED OTHER VEHICLES. THIS SEEMS TO HAVE SUDDENLY HAPPENED, I FIRST NOTICED IT ON 3/1/15. THIS WASN'T HAPPENING ON OR BEFORE 2/26/15. I SUSPECT THE POWER BOOSTER OR MASTER CYLINDER HAVE FAILED, THOUGH I'M CONCERNED THAT THIS HAPPENED WITH ONLY 61,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH AT NIGHT, THE CONTACT NOTICED A FLICKERING LIGHT COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT FLAMES ENGULFED THE ENGINE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NEITHER THE CONTACT NOR THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED ANY INJURIES. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
I HAVE A 2011 MAZDA CX-9 AND WHEN SLOWING DOWN THERE IS A JOLT WHEN IT SHIFTS FROM 4TH TO 3RD. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE WHEN ITS COLD OUT. IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN IT SHIFTS FROM 4TH TO 3RD. ITS NOT ALL THE TIME ITS JUST RANDOM. *TR

THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 77, NORTH BOUND, AT 55MPH, OTHER MOTORISTS INFORMED ME THAT MY CAR WAS ON FIRE UNDERNEATH. THERE WERE NO DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS OR SIGNALS THAT CAME ON IT LIGHT UP AS A WARNING SIGN. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND SHERIFF'S OFFICE PUT OUT THE FIRE AND THE CAR WAS TOWED. THE CAR IS QUITE NEW AND WITH VERY LOW MILEAGE. WELL MAINTAINED CAR. NO RECENT WORK OTHER THAN REGULAR OIL CHANGE. MAZDA DENIES ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 MAZDA CX9. WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE CONTACT HEARD A HISSING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT BRAKES. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE PEDAL SANK TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
I WENT TO HAVE NEW TIRES PUT ON THE CAR AND ON THE WAY TO THE TIRE SHOP WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE PEDDLE BECAME HARD AND WAS DIFFICULT TRYING TO STOP THE CAR.AFTER THE NEW TIRES WERE PUT ON THE SAME THING ON THE WAY HOME, STILL HAS A HARD BRAKE PEDDLE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE BEING APPLIED. *TR
THE BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BRAKE FELT HARD AND THE CAR WOULDN'T BRAKE - HAD TO PRESS VERY HARD TO BARELY AVOID HITTING ANOTHER CAR IN FRONT. ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER, IT WAS SCARY AND COULD HAVE EASILY GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT. I AM LUCKY IT DIDN'T HAPPEN ON A HIGHWAY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER - IT WAS UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT NOT RECALLED. THOUGH THE DEALER WAS QUICK TO FIX THE PROBLEM, I BELIEVE THIS IS A REALLY DANGEROUS AND LIVES CAN BE LOST! I EXPECTED A DEFECTIVE BRAKING SYSTEM SHOULD HAVE INITIATED A RECALL!!! *TR
WITHOUT WARNING, THE BRAKES FAILED. THEY SEEMED LOCKED TO THE FLOOR, IMPOSSIBLE TO PRESS. NO SIGNAL INDICATORS NO WARNING. JUST SUDDENLY NO BRAKES. VERY CRITICAL PROBLEM AND ACCIDENTS INVOLVING LOSS OF LIFE IS PROBABLE. *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES MOSTLY WHEN RAINING OR SNOW. AT TIMES WHEN I GO TO HIT THE BRAKES THEY GET STUCK OR MAKE A GRINDING NOISE AND DON'T WANT TO STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HIT ANOTHER CAR ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. I WILL TAKE IT IN SOON TO HAVE IT CHECKED NOW THAT I SEE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS ISSUE. STARTING IN JAN 2015 I NOTICE A BURNING SMELL COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR. I HAD AN OIL CHANGE AND CHECKED FOR AN OIL LEAK TO FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. AFTER RUNNING THE CAR FOR AT LEAST 20 MINUTES THE SMELL CONTINUES.

THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A HISSING SOUND AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,119.
I WAS GOING APPROX 40 MPH, AND WENT TO HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL AT A LIGHT, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS INCREDIBLY HARD AND WOULD NOT PUSH DOWN. I LIFTED MY FOOT UP AND TRIED AGAIN. THE PEDAL WAS STILL VERY HARD BUT I WAS ABLE TO PUSH (VERY HARD!) AND GET TO A STOP. I DID STOP PASS THE LIGHT AS IT TOOK ME LONGER TO STOP THE CAR, BUT LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS AHEAD OF ME, NOR ANY GOING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. *JS
FIRST I WAS BACKING OUT FROM A PARKING SPOT AND ALMOST HIT A CAR WAITING BEHIND ME BECAUSE THE CAR DID NOT STOP, I FIRST DID NOT THINK ANYTHING OF IT, I THOUGHT I DID NOT STEP ON THE BRAKES WELL, BUT AFTER WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED THAT IT WAS HARD TO BREAK AT THE RED LIGHT...I DECIDED TO DRIVE HOME, AND MY CAR WOULD NOT STOP AND WAS ROLLING THE STOP SIGNS, NO MATTER HOW HARD I STEPPED ON THE BREAKS THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS WAS VERY SCARY, I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO CRASH. I TRIED PUMPING THE BREAK AND WOULD HEAR SOME TYPE OF AIR COMING OUT FORM UNDERNEATH. THEY NEED TO RECALL ALL OF THESE VEHICLES! WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC MY BRAKES STARTED MALFUNCTIONING. THE TRAFFIC AHEAD OF MY VEHICLE CAME TO A SUDDEN HALT. I APPLIED MY BRAKES (100 FT. FROM COLLISION), HOWEVER, THEY FAILED TO DECELERATE THE VEHICLE- IT DIDN'T FEEL AS THOUGH I HAD APPLIED THEM. IN ORDER TO PREVENT A COLLISION I DEPRESSED THE PEDDLE WITH ALL OF MY STRENGTH (60 FT. FROM COLLISION). GRADUALLY, AND INSUFFICIENTLY, THE CAR BEGAN TO DECELERATE. WITH THE BRAKE PEDDLE FULLY DEPRESSED. SUDDENLY (25 FT. FROM COLLISION) THE BRAKES TIGHTLY GRASPED THE ROTOR AND THE TIRES SCREECHED- THRUSTING THE PASSENGER AND I FORWARD. THEN THE BRAKED RELEASED AND GRASPED AGAIN.THE VEHICLE FINALLY STOPPED INCHES SHORT OF A COLLISION WITH THE AHEAD OF MINE. FOR THE PAST FEW DAYS, THE CAR HAS CONTINUED TO EXHIBIT SIMILAR SYMPTOMS. WHEN I FULLY DEPRESS THE BREAK THE VEHICLE MAKES A HISSING SOUND AND THE RPMS DROP- ON ONE OCCASION THIS ACTION CAUSED THE CUV TO SHUT OFF. I HAVE TO REMAIN AN ADDITIONAL 50 FT. BEHIND OTHER VEHICLES IN ORDER TO INSURE THAT I HAVE SUFFICIENT TIME TO STOP. *TR
THE BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE HAVE BECOME UNPREDICTABLE. I INITIALLY TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL SHOP ONLY TO BE TURNED AROUND BEING TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH WEAR ON THE PADS TO WARRANT REPLACEMENT AND THAT EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE. HOWEVER, BEING THE OWNER OF THE CAR, I CAN CONFIRM A SEVERE AND SUDDEN REGRESSION IN THE BREAKING BEHAVIOR. WHILE THE CAR STILL SLOWS DOWN WHEN THE BREAKS ARE APPLIED, THE PEDAL HAS BECOME VERY HARD AND THE ABILITY TO STOP SUDDENLY IS SEVERELY COMPRISED (EVEN AT A SLOW SPEED). I HAVE TO PLAN MY BRAKING POINT MUCH FURTHER AWAY FROM MY ANTICIPATED STOPPING POINT WHICH MAKES DRIVING MUCH TRICKIER. I WOULD NOT TRUST THE VEHICLE TO SAVE ME FROM A CRASH WERE I TO REQUIRE EMERGENCY BRAKING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN MY MAZDA 2011 CX9 SUV WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES AND THEY WOULD NOT ENGAGE. I HAD TO PRESS REPEATEDLY, EXTREMELY HARD IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO MY MAZDA DEALER WHO IS SAYING THAT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE MASTER CYLINDER LEAKING FLUID INTO THE BOOSTER. MAZDA HAS NOT SENT A RECALL FOR THE MASTER CYLINDER ONLY FOR THE BOOSTER. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND ONE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INTO AN ACCIDENT. THIS CAR IS 2.5 YEARS OLD AND HAS 42000 MILES AND SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THESE PROBLEMS. MAZDA NEEDS TO HONOR THE REPAIR AND FIX THIS PROBLEM. *JS
BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE 3 TIMES THIS MORNING, THE FIRST TIME FAILED TO STOP THE SUV SO HAD TO SWERVE TO THE CENTER MEDIAN AND SLIGHTLY HIT THE METAL BARRIER. THEN GOING BACK HOME MAKING A TURN, BRAKES FAILED AGAIN TO ENGAGE. SEEMS THIS HAPPENED WHEN MAKING TURNS. BROUGHT TO THE MAZDA DEALER, TOLD THEM ABOUT ONGOING INVESTIGATION BY NHTSA ABOUT MAZDA CX9 2010-2011 BRAKE PROBLEMS. THEY DID A THOROUGH CHECK BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO NOTHING WAS FIXED. IT MIGHT BE THE BRAKE BOOSTER. I'M AFRAID THIS MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN, THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL REGARDING BRAKES FOR 2011 MAZDA CX9. HOPE THAT NHTSA FORCES MAZDA TO MAKE A RECALL. MAZDA HAS TO FIX THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40MPH WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES AND IT WAS HARD AND WOULD NOT STOP. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES WHEN IT FINALLY SLOWED DOWN BUT IT SLOWLY ROLLED TO A STOP. AFTER A FEW DAYS OF DRIVING LIKE THIS I KNEW TO START BREAKING WAY IN ADVANCE BUT NOW THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY TURN OFF WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP WHILE WAITING AT A RED LIGHT. THE WHOLE ENGINE WOULD TURN OFF AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD TURN ON. I WOULD TURN THE ENGINE KEY OFF AND THEN TURN IT ON AND THE ENGINE WOULD TURN ON AFTER THE SECOND TRY. I WAS FREAKING OUT EVERY TIME IF GOT INTO THE CAR BECAUSE I KNEW IT WOULD STOP ON ME WHENEVER I WOULD STOP AT A LONG STOP LIGHT. I FINALLY TOOK MY CAR TO A MAZDA SERVICE CENTER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE BRAKE BOOSTER. IT'S BEEN 5MONTHS AND MY CAR IS RUNNING GREAT. I HOPE THIS IS THE END OF THIS BRAKE BOOSTER NIGHTMARE BECAUSE IT WAS A REALLY SCARY EXPERIENCE. *TR
